group c with their final game of the opening phase against slovenia on tuesday, and qualification to the last 16 appearing to be on the cards. so how has the mood among the playing group been given some day for kieran riley. he is the world champion in bmx freestyle and the european and now he gets to show what he can do at an olympics. he has been competing today in the final and has booked his his signature double flair with just five seconds remaining of that second run, to launch himself up the leaderboard into third place, which is where he finished, same as he did in shanghai, the first leg of this qualifying series. you could tell from his reaction he knew that he had done enough and he was going to the olympics. we caught up with him afterwards. this is a dream come true and i never knew i would have this tree. you spend three years of your life trying to do something and it works out. it is an amazing feeling. it is a turn of weight that i have had to carry around this qualifying series and i have got rid of that and the relief feels amazing. there was less good news for charlotte worthington. he is the raining olympic champion in bmx freestyle. she came into the final in 12 possession knowing that she needed a big performance if he was to climb up the global leaderboard and secure an automatic qualification spot for paris. as it turned out, she finished in tenth but she could still qualify for the olympic games indirectly and that is because there are five quota places available based on results at previous championships. in the coming days, we will know if the boe as been allocated one of them they have a decision to make as to who they give that play still. here a charlotte worthington after her final talking about the situation. i am a bit in limbo until you get it on paper and it is official. i have to wait until the selection date and see what the deal is with that. and to be sure that we have fully qualified because it is a little bit done enough to keep their olympic dream alive. staying with news from the olympic games and athletes preparing for this summer in paris. sean vendy and ben lane, from milton keynes, have known each other since they were kids and have been badminton doubles partners for 13 years. sean was introduced to the sport at school, and so he and ben have returned the favour, teaching children at a local primary school. our sports reporter, james burridge, takes up the story. a badminton session with two of great britain's best players. this is how thejourney started for sean vendy. he was introduced to the sport by a former player during a school visit. he fell in love with it and is weeks away from competing in paris. i felt it was really easy to just pick up a racket and go to a club. i kind ofjust liked how multidimensional it is, you are almost never playing the same shots. i like to be a bit different and i thought at the time badminton was a bit different. the pair have been together for 13 years. 2024 is finally the year everything clicked. they have beaten the best in the world and are now into the world top ten. we have played together for 13 years and it is amazing. we have to be on the same page in order to do that, which is one of our biggest strengths. we have both been working so hard for the last sort of... since we were 18 and started full—time in milton keynes. every single day, you have to try and give it your all and give it 100%. if you don't do that, there is someone you are playing against that will. even before we started playing together, we were really good friends and it is a childhood dream. since we were 11, 12 years old, watching gail emms in athens. it is that kind of thing. that would be insane if we could do that. and all of a sudden, we are under pressure. that's all from sportsday. hello there. many of us have seen some warm sunshine today. yesterday, temperatures reached 26 degrees at heathrow airport. today wasn't as warm in the south—east and across east anglia, where we've seen some showers. those showers have been moving away from the east coast. and the change that's coming in next is arriving in the north—west of the uk, where we're seeing more cloud coming into scotland and northern ireland, that could bring one or two spots of rain. that damp weather, cloudy weather will push down overnight to northern england, wales and the south—west. these areas a bit misty, may well be some hill fog around as well, but either side of that band of cloud we've got clearer skies and typical temperatures, 10 or 11 degrees. it's going to warm up tomorrow. temperatures tomorrow are going to be higher than today. it's the first sign of things starting to heat up over the coming few days. still got that cloudy start, though, for northern england, wales and the south—west. any drizzle won't last long at all. cloud will tend to lift, but spread across to the midlands and eventually into the south—east of england. sunnier skies develop across other parts of england and wales, and plenty of sunshine to come this time for scotland and northern ireland, with light winds. and it will be warmer temperatures, two, three degrees higher than today. we may make 25 degrees in the south—east of england once again. and the pollen levels are still going to be very high for all of the uk but the far north of scotland. and temperatures will continue to climb as we move into the beginning of next week underneath this area of high pressure, and that's going to keep those weather fronts at bay for the time being towards the north—west. we're going to find a bit of a misty start in the south—west of the uk, sunshine elsewhere. but i think as temperatures rise, so will bubble up the cloud tend to spread it out a little bit into the afternoon as well. but it's continuing to warm up. temperatures higher again on monday, widely the mid 20s, as that heat pushes into scotland and northern ireland, 27 degrees in the south—east of england. now, as we move into tuesday, this weather front will eventually bring a little rain to scotland and northern ireland, but still dry and very warm with some sunshine for england and wales. and the heat is going to continue to build. today temperatures near normal. it's warmer on sunday, but into the early part of next week those temperatures really do climb, and it
