But it went the way of the favourites in bordeaux and england are celebrating tonight. Jo currie is there for us. Jo, how much of a test was this, for this dominant england side today . Was this, for this dominant yes, was this, for this dominant england champions aga arguably yes, england champions again and arguably they rarely have to get into top gear to do it. They set a blistering pace at the start of the game that france really struggled to keep up with. After the break, the hosts, welcome of their struggles continued when they were reduced to 14 continued when they were reduced to m players having one sent off for a 1a players having one sent off for a high tackle. England then cruising to a comfortable win on the day and a sixth consecutive title overall as Lydia Campbell reports. This was a cauldron of emotion in bordeaux. Thats what you get when a grand slam is on the line, both france and england have their eyes on the glory, but only one could win. It was red roses who raced into an early lead, a quick fire try, Alex Matthews, france hadnt turned up to their own party yet. But better late than never as gabrielle carved open the English Defence to get her side on the board. Then Meg Jones Capitalised on frances mistake to restore the 1a point lead. Before marie replied instantly with the best try of the match, breezing past several as they game continue to sway. But england are serial winners in this competition, and added another two tries before the break to give themselves plenty of breathing room. And things got worse for france early in the second half as she was given a yellow card for this tackle before it was upgraded to read. And despite france pulling another try back, Alex Matthews cut through for her second try of the match, sealing the grand slam for england. Its a sad end for Womens Champions League campaign and to be for the kick off in the second leg, there was so much hope in west london. In that first leg last weekend they were the first team to be barcelona on their home ground since 2019. There was a sell out crowd for the second leg here at Stamford Bridge. But chelsea in the end because of the sheer quality of barcelona s players. They have in their ranks the current women s ballin door holder. In her strike in the first half really started to change things and change the mood inside Stamford Bridge. That Put Barcelona 1 0 up on the night. Level and aggregate midway through the first half. But chelsea can t say they didn t have chances in this match. They hit the word work twice significantly really in this match, particularly this crossbar in the first half and then later in the second half, they hit the woodwork for a second time. But the game really swung again when buchanan was sent off for chelsea in the second half. A second yellow card, what it looked like a fairly innocuous bowel from her, but there is var overturned by var, barcelona, against 11 players with 11 players come i should say, with ten players, it became very, very difficult indeed. They hope to may be keep this one out towards extra time and penalties, but he was there again to win a penalty for barcelona in the closing stages and that was converted by roll photo to make it 20 converted by roll photo to make it 2 0 on the night and you overturned that 10 2 0 on the night and you overturned that 1 0 deficit from the first leg. 21 that 1 0 deficit from the first leg. 2 1 finished on aggregate. Yeah, one stage this season, emma hayes was looking for four trophies in herfinal season in charge of chelsea before she moves on to coach the United States women s national team. She s notjust in the hunt really for the wsl title, and that is so tight, so competitive, chelsea three points off the top with a game in hand. That is a title race that could come down to Goal Difference at the end of the season with Manchester City, but hayes, she desperately this women s Champions League, didn t she . I don t think it will spoil her legacy that many of these fans and streaming out of the ground tonight will look back on a wonderful career she s had at this club with six wsl titles, five fa cups in the Champions League, it just wasn t it be tonight. And today, they did themselves no favours at all, held to a draw with west ham. The result leavesjurgen klopp s side two points behind leaders arsenal, having played a game more. And the tensions, potentially starting to show, as nick parrott reports. The frustrating end to liverpool s season is becoming more apparent with every game. After losing to everton without scoring in midweek, the manager, juergen klopp, made five changes, as an impact sub guest west ham, but is this moment of the maps that he will be remembered for. It was already to all when the egyptian came on. In a dire first half, liverpool had more possession, but it was the hammers who struck first through jared bowen just before the interval. Half Time Team Talk did the trick, as Andy Robertson equalised soon after. Liverpool could and should have run away with this match, but as so often has been the case this season, their shots were wayward and they found a goalkeeper rising to the occasion. He was credited with this own goal, but he was hardly to blame for liverpool taking the lead. One of the few standout performers was bowen, the Player Of The Match Set Up Antonio to send west ham s fans delirious and liverpool s despondent. They ve known for months that klopp is leaving, left wondering whether solo or others follow them out of the club. Nick parrott, bbc news. Afterwards in the post match press conference klopp wouldn t elaborate on what happened with salah on the touchline other than to say we spoke about it in the Dressing Room and that is done for me. Asked if salah was ok with it, klopp claimed that was my impression. However, when salah walked through the mixed zone at west ham and was asked to stop, he admitted there s gonna be a fire today if i speak. It s not always great, everton, especially not, other games have been really good and they don t finish the situation, that is not cool, thinking this game can look completely different if you lose. If you only use them, than it s already done, but it s just how it is. We have to take it, it s not the first time. 75 points, i think, that we have now, so that s not bad. Of course, still nine points to get, and we will try absolutely everything. The opponents are tough. We all know that. It s now a longer period to recover and i hope we can do that and we will try again. Sheffield united have been relegated from the Premier League, after a heavy defeat at stjames park to newcastle united. 5 1 the score. They gave themselves some hope of maintaining their stay for a while longer after taking the lead, but two goals from alexander isak, with Callum Wilson coming off the bench to score for his first top flight goal since october, capped off a miserable day on the whole for the blades. We ve not been good enough, the league has been too powerful for us right away through the season, possibly epitomising in one game how it has been for a lot of the games. 0ur inability to defend, her inability to put teams to bed, our inability to last the 90 minutes has come. As i said, it s a really good football club. Everybody understands that. It s been a really poor season and we have to own that. Everton are celebrating securing their place in the Premier League for next season after beating Brentford One nil. Idrissa gueye scored forjust the third time this season on the hour mark at Goodison Park to give everton their third win in a row. The victory leaves them 11 points clear of the Relegation Zone with three games to go. Despite the defeat and dropping below everton, brentford are also safe. A late penalty secured a point for burnley at old trafford, as they drew 1 all with Manchester United. Zeki amdouni scored from the spot after being brought down by united keeper andre 0nana. Antony had earlier given united the lead, for his First League Goal this season. Again, we put ourselves in a winning position and long courses in the game. We dominated this game. Only the second part of the first half, we conceded some chances, but the rest of the game was all ours. We created a lot of chances. Again, you are in a winning position and we gave it away. A late goal from Crystal Palace too kept their unbeaten run going jeffrey sclupp s equaliser came 5 minutes from full time, in their game away at fulham. Rodrigo muniz put fulham ahead shortly after half time. Palace, now four matches unbeaten in the league. And luton could be in real trouble too after their loss to wolves this afternoon. Hwang hee chan and joao gomes fired wolves in front at molyneux a late Carlton Morris goal gave luton some hope but in the end not enough for them. They re still in the bottom three, Butjust A Point behind Nottingham Forest who play tomorrow. Wolves end a six game winless run. So let s take a look at how that leaves the table we ll start at the top, and arsenal and Manchester City can put more distance between themselves and liverpool tomorrow after the reds dropped points against west ham. Newcastle are just a point behind Manchester United in 6th as they chase a european spot. And at the bottom confirmation of sheffield united, back in the championship next season. Trouble for burnley and luton too, as the end the season edges closer, withjust three games to go for them. In the championship another drama filled day with ramifications at the top and bottom. Ipswich could go second later, if they can beat hull in the late kick off. In the rest of the day s games. Norwich drew 2 all with swansea to keep themselves in the frame for the playoffs. They take advantage of west brom s slip up against Sheffield Wednesday the home side winning 3 0, a massive boost for their chances of staying in the division. Birmingham drew 1 1 with huddersfield. And a blow for plymouth too losing to millwall. Also wins for bristol city, middlesbrough, stoke and watford. So at the top of the championship. Leicester were promoted last night after leeds were beaten. As mentioned ipswich can go second later their opponents hull have eyes on the playoffs though. Southampton will finish 4th. Norwich and west brom at the moment make up the top 6. At the bottom birmingham and huddersfield remain in the bottom three following their draw. Blackburn, Sheffield Wednesday and plymouth are also in a fight to stay up too. Tensions at the bottom of the championship then derby county will be back in the second tier next season, after sealing their promotion from league one today, on the final day of the season. They only needed only a draw against the division s bottom side carlisle united, to end their two year stay in league one. Bolton, peterborough, Oxford United and barnsley will contest the playoffs early next month. To the snooker World Championship now and judd trump showed just why he could be the man to beat this year after sealing his place in the quarterfinals, with victory over tom ford. His position on the tour the subject of speculation, in the face of talk over breakaways. It was a comprehensive second round win for him 13 frames to 7. Hazel irvine is at the crucible alongsidejohn parrott. Earlier today, the 2019 World Champion became the second man through to the quarterfinals. Did so against a fellow seeded player, tom ford, 13 frames to seven. Two centuries along the way, and when it came in here, very relaxed and happy indeed. Says he hasn t put himself under pressure coming in, a nice break before he s come here. All his preparation is good, really relaxed. Seemed very comfortable in front of us answering the questions, his game and himself are in a very good place. Quite happy to talk about a number of issues in the game, not least the rumours we hear about possible breakaway tours. He was quite categorical about that. You want to win the masters in the uk in the World Championship, you are not going to get that anywhere else. This is a tour to play on and of course all these players like to be governed by all of those great feats you can get in the game, so he is in the right place. Batting away very nicely the comparisons that this stage of his career is only 34 years of age who at 48 is still continuing to break records. He s giving himself a lot of time here to do any catching up that he wants in the future. Very much so and so he should. He loves winning. That s the thing. Listen, you love to set your stall out and say i want to win the masters uk, world, sometimes it s not like that. But he is a serial winner, that is for sure. And he will want to win more than one World Championship. The two players of the season so far, judd trump, five titles, including back to back majors, on a Collision Course in the semifinal. He was chatting about that insane, yup, it could be that the player of the year title is up for grabs at that point as well, if it happens. There s obviously a lot of snooker to be played. It does look like it s on paper, but it is not always the case. But if it comes up, that will be some match. Plenty of others in the ring here for Another World title, or indeed a first, and this evening s match is under way. That s Got Brig Break Central Written all over it, doesn t it . It hopefully lives up to its billing. Both players love to get into on with it. That should be a cracker to watch. The warrior, terrifically concise form, really measured, real quality from him, joe 0 connell, what can we expect from him . He looked unflappable in his first match, he is back to work again. Listen, he will consider that shot to nothing, may be a bit more pressure on him, i m watching him practice, he is flying. The places in the quarterfinals all up for grabs and that continues until monday. So much to look forward to. So as we heard there trump rejecting an approach to join a potential breakaway snooker tour. There has been speculation the sport s biggest names could be tempted to leave the existing World Snooker tour and play in lucrative events elsewhere. After his match today, trump revealed his thoughts. I have absolutely no doubt that i will be playing on this tour for the foreseeable future. I think for me playing and exhibitions, series or whatever it is, is not right for me at this moment in time. I have got so much life to achieve in the game and money me at this moment in time is not the priority. I need to hopefully put some Question Marks to bait and stuff like that. Harlequins scored six tries on their way to a 41 32 victory over premiership leaders northampton. That s all from sportsday. Chelsea are out of the women s Champions League, losing to barcelona in the semifinals there. Updates from all of those on the bbc sport website, but that is all from us. We will see you soon. Hello there. It certainly has been a saturday of contrasts across the country. We started off grey and wet across southern england. The rain petered out to a blanket of cloud and drizzle. A lot of cloud across wales, the midlands, for much of the day. Further north it was a different story. Sunny spells and scattered showers but escape those showers, a beautiful afternoon in fife, as you can see. We have more heavy rain though arriving through the night tonight. It is across the south. That rain some of it really quite intense will gradually drift its way steadily north and east as we go through sunday. Once again a day of contrasts because the rain will continue to move its way out of the midlands, up into the North East Of England and eastern scotland. West will certainly stay drier and brightest for longest. Into the afternoon we should see an improving picture across much of england and wales. Sunny spells, a few scattered showers, and Temperatures Peaking at around 13 degrees. It will be windy on those exposed east coasts. Sheltered Western Areas clinging onto some glimpses of sunshine. A little more cloud generally and the rain still quite heavy and persistent, with gusts of wind across the east coast of 40 50 miles an hour. That makes the eight degrees in aberdeen feel pretty disappointing. That low eases away. The isobars squeeze together. It stays blustery into monday. 0n the whole a relatively quiet start to the working week. Temperatures to greet us first thing we are looking at around 2 6. It will be dry, there will be some sunshine coming through early on. Breezy but a southerly wind will make it start to feel just that little bit milder, particular in the sunnier moments. Here is the low moving into Northern Ireland and perhaps clouding over across western coastal fringes as we go through the day. Temperatures in the sunshine should peak at 16 degrees. Starting to feel a little better. Tuesday, final day of april, could actually see a little more warmth. We have still got this low pressure out to the south west. Because the winds are circulating around that low we are tapping in to a milder south easterly. That is driving in some warmth from the near continent and you really will start to notice the difference. For our final day of april, yes, it is likely that we could see Temperatures Peaking in one or two spots into the high teens. There will be some showers around but a little bit quieter and a little bit warmer than of late. Live from london, this is bbc news.
