Called the open arms, hopes to use a newly opened Shipping Route to arrive in the next few days. But where the open arms will arrive remains in question. With no Functioning Port in gaza, its unclear where it will dock upon entry. Aid workers are reported building a Makeshift Breakwater off the coast to the prepare for its arrival. The open arms will set off from the port of larnaca. Its cargo includes 200 tonnes of food, as the un warns a quarter its cargo includes 200 tonnes of food, as the un warns a quarter of gazas population is on the brink of famine. The uns agency for palestinian refugees, meanwhile, they were among 16 countries who suspended funds to unrwa. But while attempts to get more aid into gaza are progressing, talks of a ceasefire are not. The head of israels Intelligence ServiceAccused Hamas of hardening its position in ceasefire talks, saying hamas was planning to escalate tensions during ramadan. Hamas has similarly blamed israel for a lack of progress in ceasefire negotations, which are expected to continue in cairo next week. I spoke earlier with former Israeli Defence forces Spokesmanjonathan Conricus about how humanitarian aid efforts are connected to efforts to stop violence. Thank you so much for being here. I just want to start with some of the remarks that were made by President Joe Biden in that state of the Union Address where he talks about the situation in gaza. Take a listen. To israel i say this, humanitarian assistance israel i say this, humanitarian assistance cannot be secondary to innocent assistance cannot be secondary to innocent lives. The only real solution innocent lives. The only real solution to the situation is a two State Solution to the situation is a two State Solution over time. A solution to the situation is a two State Solution over time. Solution to the situation is a two State Solution over time. A lot in there, State Solution over time. A lot in there. Regarding a secific response to that . Regarding a specific statement, response to that . Regarding a specific statement, i response to that . Regarding a specific statement, i think response to that . Regarding a specific statement, i think its| specific statement, i think its very much correct. Humanitarian aid shouldnt, and isnt used as a bargaining. The only people who are using humanitarian aid as a Bargaining Chip are hamas. The cruel, heartless terrorists, and i think we will have to look for there are lots of people in gaza who probably are not affiliated with hamas and should get humanitarian assistance. It would have been great if these people would have been taken care of by the facilities, organisations in gaza and put in humanitarian zones and provided their needs, that was a decision that unrwa decided 3. 5 4 months ago, not to do and not provide that assistance. Not to do and not provide that assistance not to do and not provide that assistance. ~ . , , assistance. Weve actually spoken with many peeple assistance. Weve actually spoken with many people from assistance. Weve actually spoken with many people from unrwa, i assistance. Weve actually spoken with many people from unrwa, many leaders of humanitarian aid organisations and they cannot continue with the humanitarian issue missions, they arent able to get supplies in, and its simply too dangerous. The security situation doesnt allow them to do that. Is israel doing enough to provide conditions to deliver aid safely to the civilians that need it . Anyone in unrwa must the civilians that need it . Anyone in unrwa must do, the civilians that need it . Anyone in unrwa must do, there the civilians that need it . Anyone in unrwa must do, there still. The civilians that need it . Anyone | in unrwa must do, there still are israeli hostages held in gaza, israeli hostages held in gaza, israel is transferring humanitarian aid to the very same combat zone and i would like to say that unrwa is a complete and utter failure of their mandate, they failed the palestinians, they failed the values of the un and they have failed their humanitarian mission and are nothing more than a front for hamas, doing hamas dirty work and enabling continued withdrawal of hamas on the gaza strip. I continued withdrawal of hamas on the gaza stri. ,. ,. ,. , gaza strip. I want to get another art of gaza strip. I want to get another part of that gaza strip. I want to get another part of that State Of The Union i part of that state of the Union Address and this got big applause in the room. What do you make of that, and how much support is there in israel for a two State Solution . Between slim and none in the current situation, because in israel, we are looking at the palestinians. I will say in a general sense, and who represents the palestinians and the main politics that represent palestinian sentiment. It according to polls done in palestinian territory, hamas, if elections were held today, after october the 7th, wins a Landslide Victory by 86 in judea and samaria, at about 70 in gaza. So the question that begs answering is, iagree gaza. So the question that begs answering is, i agree but there should be a two State Solution, but with whom . With hamas . According to the palestinians, hamas will be the representatives of the Palestinian People and i dont think that that is a plausible situation at all, just as it wouldnt be plausible to negotiate a two State Solution with isis or with alanda. This is the same type of people, same organisations, same type of religious extremism, and in fact talking with them, negotiating with them and rewarding them a prize for their atrocities of october the 7th, is not, i think, anything realistic and it does not, is not going to happen as long as these are the sentiments of the palestinians, i do not think that that is a plausible situation. Israelis want peace. Different israeli Prime Ministers, including right wing Prime Ministers have offered palestinians extensive peace. I have offered palestinians extensive eace. Its that they broken down and we are not long from the start of ramadan. How optimistic are you . There had been goals to try and get a multi day cease fire in place before the holy month. How optimistic that that will happen no . They are getting support and are using the International Community and the us very cleverly, their plan all along was to bide time, spend time until the month of ramadan comes along, banking on, or hoping that israel would not do major operations during that month in fear of additional escalation in other parts of the middle east and religious extremism bubbling over into general violence in the area. And sadly, that plan appears to have been working. According to all the information and indications that i have, hamas never wanted to release israeli hostages and the real hostage deal was not in the works. They were playing for time in order to get close to ramadan and then to try and prevent israeljump from continuing fighting, and they are hoping, hamas, that they will be able to wheedle their way out of the fighting, out of the war and claim victory by existing and having some long term official cease fire. I dont think is going to happen, i hope thats not going to happen and i hope israel stays true to its mission which is to defend israeli civilians to get the hostages home and to defeat the threat and the menace of hamas from gaza. Now to the crisis in haiti, where the countrys most vulnerable are suffering from a surge in gang violence. On friday, gangs attacked at least three Police Stations in the capital, port au prince, as Security Forces fought back attacks on the president ial palace. Gunfire continued saturday, with reports of bodies piling up in the streets. It all comes after gangs broke thousands of inmates out of haitis two largest prisons. The unrest has led to a State Of Emergency and nightly curfew. And it has severely impacted the countrys economy, causing shortages of food and water. The United Nations says nearly half of the countries more than 11 Million People dont have enough to eat, and that 1. 4 Million People are living at starvation levels. With Super Tuesday in the books, it looks as if a rematch for the us presidency between donald trump and joe biden is set. Lets go live to Our Washington correspondent Gary Odonoghue whos in georgia at the biden event. Gary, what did you make of the reception that President Biden gotten, especially on the heels of that fiery state of the Union Address . Address . These are pretty handpicked address . These are pretty handpicked supporters, i address . These are pretty. Handpicked supporters, so address . These are pretty handpicked supporters, so the hand picked supporters, so the reception is what youd expect it to be. In any way, the message is not really for the whole here, for georgia and the rest of the country. It was a fired Upjoe Biden Again tonight, much like we saw on thursday night at the State Of The Union. He took many of those key points, key Policy Points about drug prices, about health care more generally, about housing issues, about the threat to democracy, naming donald trump tonight not talking about his predecessor like he did on thursday. Really urging georgia to organise and vote again in the way it did in 2020 where he took this state by the thinnest of margins. 0. 3 , fewer than 12,000 votes. Joe biden knows in this state in particular the African American community is hugely significant in voting, more than a third of voters are black here. There have been some worrying signs for him that that support could be dipping. Pretty high, generally, 88 last time around, so if were talking about a dip, were not talking about a huge difference, but seven or points going elsewhere could be a significant moment for the president here as he goes into november. That here as he goes into november. At gary, when youre talking about a margin in georgia of less than 12,000 votes, clearly every vote is going to matter in 2024. We just saw a bit of that new Advertising Campaign that was launched by the president. Hes really speaking pretty candidly about his age, hes poking fun at his age, and at the same time we heard those live remarks from donald trump attacking the advanced age of the president. How do you think the president will deal with that issue, which voters say is an issue for them, about his age Going Forward over the next eight months . I age Going Forward over the next eight months . Age Going Forward over the next eight months . I think there is no ruestion eight months . I think there is no question that eight months . I think there is no question that age eight months . I think there is no question that age is eight months . I think there is no question that age is an eight months . I think there is no question that age is an issue. Eight months . I think there is no question that age is an issue. I l question that age is an issue. I certainly have been, ive been here for a couple of days and you hear it pretty volunteered from people and voters that age is a bit of a concern. Thats not surprising. What youre saying from the president as of thursday night and the Advertising Campaign you just mentioned, and a sense, trying to take it head on but also trying to joke at all. So hes addressing it but hes not dwelling on it. And i think, you know, the democrats, certainly the leadership, feel this is a pretty unfair singling out of joe biden given that his opponent is 77 years old, just a few years or younger. His doctor is releasing that physical and stressing the fact that physical and stressing the fact that there was no Cognitive Impairment tojoe biden, weve seen him much more invigorated and on message in the last couple of days in terms of his delivery, and not seeming, you know, perhaps wondering and losing the thread as he does in the past but this is going to be, you know, we are eight months away from the General Election and its already started, the campaign. This is going to be a grueling set of months forjoe biden and for donald trump. And, you know, people will be looking to see if he can stand up to that, whether his stamina is up to that. ,. , that, whether his stamina is up to that. Gary, briefly, you mentioned a long campaign, but it seems like a i long campaign, but it seems like a bit of a sprint right now. What can we expect from joe biden Going Forward . I know hell be in a few more swing states this week. Yeah, since the state more swing states this week. Yeah, since the state of more swing states this week. Yeah, since the state of the more swing states this week. Yeah, since the State Of The Union, since the State Of The Union, typically after every State Of The Union a president and his cabinet go on tour to try and sell the message. Thats even more important in an election year. And joe biden is come here to georgia, two days after the State Of The Union, because this is incredibly important as weve been saying. It also hes heading to other swing states in the coming days. He is going to michigan, he is going to wisconsin, part of that famed blue wall that he one last time, including pennsylvania that got him over the top. Its those states that Hillary Clinton lost in 2016 that lost her the white house. Won. Key moments for him to get his message across, and key moments where hes going to have to address some difficult issues. We had one protester hold out during his speech tonight talking about free gaza, free gaza. A protester, when he goes to michigan, that has later on this week, that has a big arab american, African American population, too. A lot of young people in particular that are concerned about the situation in the east and we saw in fact during the primary there, didnt we . Around 13 of people voting uncommitted, in other words withholding their vote. And weve got a primary here on tuesday as well. And they dont have the option in georgia of voting uncommitted, but there is a campaign here saying leave it blank. In other words, take part in the democratic primary but dont sign it, dont mark your ballot paper. Well see how much traction that gets here. One thing i will tell you, talking to a young black man in a suburb of Southern Atlanta yesterday, he volunteered the idea, too much money going abroad he said. That is not an uncommon thought, notjust among African Americans but among a of americans in this election season. Cloudy skies will remain a dominant feature with the weather story as we continue through the weekend. So mothering sunday, a rather grey start for many of us and there will be more in the way of rain around at times. Now it really is quite a messy story, but were still under this influence of low pressure, despite itjust sinking a little bit further south towards northern spain, the isobars open up, lighter winds across central and southern england. But this trailing Weather Front will introduce cloud and showery bits and pieces of rain, a relatively bright start across wales and south west england. But the rain will tend to drift its way westwards as we go through the afternoon. So sunny spells and a few scattered showers, potentially, across cornwall, devon and parts of south wales. A line of more persistent rain moving its way slowly eastwards, Cloudier Skies remaining behind quite a lot of clouds. The east of the pennines, some showery outbreaks of rain moving into Northern Ireland and always along that east coast. It will stay cloudy, cool, breezy and wet at times. So that could have an impact once again on the feel of the weather. Six to eight degrees here. But further west where we may well see the best of the brightness, 11 or 12 celsius. Now, as we move out of sunday into monday, that low pressure is going to drift its way over into central europe. The trailing Weather FrontStill Producing quite a lot of cloud and a few bits and pieces of Showery Rain Across Parts of london and towards Kent First Thing on monday morning. So monday, again, a grey start. Weve got this easterly feed continuing to push in cloud and maybe some outbreaks of Light Drizzle along exposed east coast. Drizzle along exposed east coasts. So sheltered Western Areas potentially seeing the best of any brighter weather. And thats where well see the best of the warmth. Ten or 11 degrees, always cooler on those exposed coasts where the cloud and the drizzle may remain all day. Now, as we move through the middle part of the week, there is another Weather Front. But on the whole, a quieter story until we get to the end of the week where we could see Weather Front starting to push in from the west,s but the Wind Direction will change to a more of a southwesterly and we will tend to see it turning a little milder. So it is going to stay pretty messy throughout the week, a greater chance of seeing more persistent rain by the end of the working week, butjust that little bit milder. This is bbc news and will have the headlines for you at the top of the hour straight after this programme. Hello, everybody. A very warm welcome to talking Business Weekly with me, aaron hezelhurst. Lets go and take a look at whats on the show. People have been using cannabis for as long as you can rememberfor millennia. And nothing will stop them, no prohibition. And thats why they should be able to do it safely. Yep. The money in marijuana. That market is huge, nearly 40 billion. So im going to be discussing all of that with these two.
