Lets go back to our top story now where the Us Supreme Court has ruled that donald trump can appear on the president ial ballot in colorado thats after the states highest court tried to ban him, citing his role in the capitol riot of 6january, 2021. The former president said the Supreme Courts decision was a big win for america. Declaring an individual and eligible forfederal office. The declaring an individual and eligible for federal office. The state of colorado can declare donald trump and eligible for state office in colorado. At this point, it appears that donald trump is ineligible to be elected to any state office in colorado, including governor of colorado, including governor of colorado, because the colorado Supreme Court has deemed him guilty of insurrection in violation of the us constitution. But that is not something that colorado can do with respect and federal office. The court said that the job of congress to determine who is eligible and ineligible for a federal office. This is a very curious situation because in 2021, the House Of Representatives voted 232 to 197, charging donald trump with incitement of insurrection in the senate voted 57 to 43 that he was guilty of incitement of interaction. That was not enough votes in the senate to convict donald trump in his impeachment trial. When we go from here, ithink his impeachment trial. When we go from here, i think is going to be unclear. We know right now is that colorado cannot not, no other state, can remove donald trump from the ballot for any other candidate for federal office because it is not the job of the states, says the Supreme Court, to enforce the interaction clause of the constitution. That is fur hold is a federal office. That noes fur hold is a federal office. That goes back fur hold is a federal office. That goes back to fur hold is a federal office. That goes back to the fur hold is a federal office. That goes back to the Tussle Fur Hold is a federal office. That goes back to the tussle of what rules the states can decide on and what roles they can decide on. Does this give donald trump a much clearer run to the path of republican nomination . Or that donald trump will be on the ballot tomorrow here in minnesota, in the republican primary and other republican primaries that will take place over the next several weeks. And he could very well obtain the republican nomination for president of the us. The concern which i hope we iterate is that we have already had a majority of both houses of congress, about that donald trump was guilty of incitement of insurrection back in 2021. That was not enough to convict him under the impeachment clause but it seems quite clear that at least at that point in time, congress believed that he incited insurrection and that word, i think, this qualify him from public office. But we will see what happened and whether Congress Wants to take further action. The ball is now clearly in the court of congress to decide what to do. Trump has been indicted criminally for his actions leading up to january six, he has been indicted on other charges but it is very well possible that congress could take further action here. The majority of both houses has a ready voted that he is guilty of incitement of insurrection, that was in his 2021 impeachment trial. We could have additional action taken at the end of 2024, depending on what happens, the republicans have three extra seats in the House Of Representatives, as it currently stands but we do not know why this is going to go. The court has only said that this is the job of congress and us Attorneys Acting Under Authority from congress but the states cannot disqualify donald trump or anyone else from federal office under the 14th Amendment section 3 80 pairs right now that donald trump is ineligible to be elected governor of colorado because he has been deemed Insurrection List in colorado. ~ ,. , he has been deemed Insurrection List in comrade there are growing concerns about the way artifical intelligence could be used to mislead voters ahead of this years us election. Its emerged that some supporters of former us President Donald Trump are creating and sharing fake images of him with black people to encourage African Americans to back him in novembers election. Bbc panorama discovered dozens of the pictures created using ai theres no evidence though they are directly linked to mrtrumps campaign. 0ur Disinformation and social media correspondent, marianna spring, reports. At first glance, this photo looks real. 0nly its not. It was generated using Ai Technology by this Radio Presenter and his team and shared with more than a million followers, attached to a story about black support for former President Donald Trump. Im not a photojournalist. Im not out there taking pictures of whats really happening. Im a storyteller. Im not claiming it is accurate. Im not saying, hey, look, donald trump was at this party with all of these African American voters. Look how much they love him. It does give that impression, though. If you didnt know it wasnt real, youd think hes at this party and hes met all these people who support him because its quite convincing. If anybody s voting one way or another because of one photo they see on a facebook page, thats a problem with that person, not with the post itself. I uncovered dozens more. I uncovered dozens more ai generated images of black voters like this, mainly featuring donald trump. While ai images ofjoe biden exist, its much harder to find ones which Feature Voters and target a particular demographic. Whether biden or trump pictures, theres no evidence theyre affiliated with either campaign. Its scary that it can be created. Its scary that somebody can push it out, but the part that scares us the most is when somebody in our Community Gets it, maybe an influencer, right . Maybe a rapper. And then from there, its viral and itjust takes on a life and a truth of its own. How important is the black vote . The black vote is critical. Its going to be critical in this election coming up. Its swing voters who are feeling disillusioned, like douglas in atlanta, georgia, who could be the target for this type of ai content. The Democratic Party only comes around to pander to the black vote only when re election comes up. Once they get reelected, they forget about us for the next two to four years. He believed this image was real before i revealed it was faked. Still, it had an effect. Trump and biden are dinosaurs. If i had to lean my support towards either either one, which i dont want to, in my opinion, the lesser of the two evils is donald trump. But i dont believe in voting for the lesser of two evils because at the end of the day youre still voting for evil. Ai generated content can entrench existing bias and there are concerns about the influence posts like this could have, but theyre unlikely to swing a whole election. Instead, they could further inflame tensions and divisions in what could be a fractious president ial race. Marianna spring, bbc news. Some breaking news. Lets take you life the uk House Of Lords where we are hearing that peers have inflicted their first defeat against Prime Minister rishi sunak s safety of Rwanda Asylum and immigration bill. Here in the uk, a new report is calling for the Church Of England to set up an Investment Fund of £1 billion to help repair the damaged caused by its historic links to slavery. Last year, an investigation found that the church had invested large amounts of money in a company that transported slaves. 0ur correspondent ellie price had more on the announcement. A long time coming, some 300 years. I think the starting point for all of this, as you say, was the investment around more than £700,000 that the Church Of England made in a company that transported some 34,000 slaves over the course of about 30 years back in the 18th century. And today, or at least in the last couple of years, the Church Of England has sought to redress that. Now, i think it is significant. I think this is probably the first time an institution the size of the Church Of England has made an intervention like this, has said it would pay essentially reparations to those affected on this scale. Now, as you say, the report today said that that Investment Fund should reach around £1 billion. What they have committed to is £100 million, with the idea that basically the money would be basically put in an Investment Fund and then would generate money itself. There would be other investors who would come on course and eventually it would sort of build up to this billion pound pot, if you like. So were talking about an awful lot of money. Theyre talking about investing in things like education, in black led entrepreneurial schemes. They talk about pharmacies, all sorts of different schemes that would work here in england and also internationally as well, because of course, the effects of slavery were being felt all around the world. So really interesting statements being made by the church today. I think the other very interesting point that came up about it was this idea that the Church Of England could be some kind of catalyst in effect, because its such a big institution implementing a scheme like this that other organisations, other organisations involved in slavery in the uk, of which they say there are many they know who they are, they say will also follow suit and seek to make investments of a similar ilk. Well, that is interesting, isnt it, because that was going to be my next question, really, what this could do, what this could mean for other institutions here. Well, i think certainly the Church Of England, not one to want to name and shame. But there was an awful lot of research put into this report about exactly what investments were made, where they were made. And obviously, within that, other Companies Still exist, other institutions that still exist, also made those important investments. And i think the idea was, i was speaking to one of the bishops involved in all of this, because, as i say, if the Church Of England can make a commitment like this, then it would be, you know, there are certainly other organisations that may seem to follow suit. And aside from the money, she said, this is all about the conversation, the conversation about what it has meant over the last several hundred years and what it means more importantly into the future. And of course that money is very important, the difference it can make, but also, as i say, the conversations and the idea of sort of tipping the balance that it might have. So, yeah, the church today very much wanting to see itself as, you know, flying a flag for what they see is a very, very important issue. We will be discussing that with historian in the next hour hearing bbc news. Here in the uk, chancellor, jeremy hunt is under pressure from many in his own party to introduce tax cuts in wednesdays budget. Lets start with the big theme of last s budget. Budget for growth, as it was named by the chancellor. As you know, the government has struggled to deliver growth in the past 12 months. The economy went into recession at the end of 2023 so growing economy hasnt been achieved so far. The chancellor also says in a speech last year that he wanted to halve inflation. We have been told that was the number one priority. That it happen. So far. The chancellor also says in a speech last year that he wanted to halve inflation. We have been told that was the number one priority. That it happen. There is better than mixed picture and the economy. 0ne tip to harding inflation, One Prosper Cross the growing inflation. Further expansions leading to 30 hours for all under Fives Expansions leading to 30 hours for all Underfives Neck Expansions leading to 30 hours for all under fives neck september in england. The chancellor says that the first bit is under truck but there is no guarantee it will happen. There are warnings from the sector that they will struggle to deliver all of this by next september. So this one is still in the balance. Here is another one that matters to a lot of us as well. The price of a pint. The chancellor cut the tax on draft booze last year. He said to keep the cost of a pint down. The industry says that did help but you can see the number here, the price of a pint has gone up here, the price of a pint has gone up 7. 5 in a year. That is slightly less diet has gone up in shops but that policy to keep the price of the pint down has only had limited success. 0ne Pint Down has only had limited success. One more here that was talked about in the budget last year. Getting people back to work. If you look at the top of this graphic here, you canjust about tell that it has actually gone up slightly since the start of this year. The treasury has taken this bit in grey, students, so this one has not worked in a substantial way so far. 0ne has not worked in a substantial way so far. One last policy we wanted to test. Prepayment energy meters. The government promised to make sure that people on these metres werent paying more than standing charges then people on direct debit metres. This one has happened. A few weeks ago, 0fgem said that prices would have to match direct debit costs. So that one did happen. There is a lot more we can look at here. But on these five measures, growth we are saying no, inflation yes, childcare, not sure yet, to be confirmed in the next few weeks. The pint price has gone up, economic inactivity hasnt come down in a major way. That changed to Prepayment Meters has happened. It is a mixed bag but remember, budgets arent always designed to deliver immediately. Some of this might take time. We will have full coverage of the uk budget here on the bbc news channel on wednesday. Live from london. This is bbc news.
