welcome to the daily global, where we'll bring you the top stories from around the world. we will start in gaza breaking news in the last half hour or so. ten more is really hostages are reported to have been handed over by hamas this on the fifth day of the temporary pause in fighting. take a look at these pictures. we were live on air when we solve these. he seemed to be, you can see vehicles crossing the rafah crossing there, in southern gaza into egypt. the israeli army says based on information from the red cross, ten is really hostages have been released into other hostages, a foreign nationality, have also been released. you can see in the darkness that the red cross vehicles on their way into in egypt. some now live pictures from right across the region. this is at the rafah crossing the one we were just watching. these are live pictures. we were expecting at some point this evening in the darkness there, the is really hostages to be released and we have seen now. that confirmation. what we look for now and next is the release of the palestinian prisoners or detainees of which we have no confirmation of at the moment but we are reading to bring you those lines and pictures as and when they happen. let's return now our focus to israeli hostages. in families still waiting for news. orla guerin reports from jerusalem. it's a nerve—wracking wait for hostages to come home. especially the very young. and the fear is time may run out. tomorrow is due to be the last day. will baby kfir bibas be freed? he is the youngest hostage, just ten months old. israel has taken him to its heart. kidnapped with him, his brother, ariel, who is four and loves batman. their mother, shiri, held them in her arms, trying to protect them as hamas led them all away. theirfather, yarden, also a hostage. israel says hamas has passed them on to another palestinian militant group. their relatives are tormented by worry and by waiting. how difficult have the last few days been when each day has come and gone and each list has come and gone and they have not come home? it's dreadful. it's the worst scenario. having to wait for that list every night. seeing all those beautiful moments of reunion and hoping it will be the next day. and it's not. relatives and supporters are gathered here once again. they want to keep the pressure on the government. for all those released in recent days, many more remain trapped in gaza. their families are hoping against hope that the deal between israel and hamas will be extended once again. that deal has brought palestinian prisoners back into the arms of their families. like this 18—year—old, accused of rioting. about 150 have been freed so far from israeli jails and have returned to eastjerusalem and the west bank. in gaza, while the truce holds, a chance to survey the wreckage. the un says there is despair, destruction and — especially for women and children — the risk of famine. "we see our homes getting destroyed. "and our dreams getting destroyed", says maryam. "they gave us a four—day ceasefire. "what good is that?" back in israel, balloons are released for kfir and ariel, in the hopes that these children will soon see the sky again after more than 50 days in darkness. this is day five of this temporary pause in the fading and that means of course questions about what happens next. qatar is playing an essential role in mediation and negotiation. earlier i spoke to nawaf al thani he was a former defense attache for qatari government to the us up until 2020. they tell us a couple of things i think, number one, that the negotiation is working. you're getting extension. so that seems to be working. and the second thing i think it tells us is a willingness, at least even though a bit of reluctance, but a willingness to move forward from both parties in the negotiations. hamas and the israelis. although it is a bit tense at this point. when you when you think about the idea of moving forward, are you thinking 2a hours by 2a hours, some more extensions and more hostages released? unfortunately, this is the name of the game right now is momentum. so, yes, it is 2a hours by 2a hours. however, the qataris have said that they're looking towards a plan, towards a cessation of violence as a whole in gaza. but right now they're focused on the first phase of the transfer and negotiations and the swap of hostages and prisoners, which is continuing today. and can you give us your assessment? if you look back to before this whole process started, the fighting was at its height, we had no idea if and when anything like this would actually happen. have you been surprised or were you confident that we'd always get here? well, i think i was more hopeful than confident. there were moments and we can remember even today where the ceasefire seemed to be breached. but i would assume and from the knowledge i have very limited or the operations centre here in qatar with the negotiators have deconflict did a lot of that smooth that process along the way. it's not been easy, but right now we're getting to a point where we're moving towards most of the civilian hostages, hopefully women and children, at least, that this first phase are being released. it's going to get harder, unfortunately, moving forward. the second phase will be male civilian hostages. and then obviously the third would be the military hostages. and that would be, i think, a very difficult part, although i think they're working very hard even today in trying to figuring that part out. and just explain to us where the difficulty comes in. are you saying that hamas would be reluctant to give those hostages up? it's unclear where the difficulties lie right now. obviously, in any negotiation, you know, negotiating the swap of children, women and children is much easier than military personnel. now, the qataris have been very clear that they're focused on the current mission at hand, which are the women and children. they haven't gone into detail about moving forward. however, they have set up the course that this will be the process moving from women and children to the male civilians to the military without any more detail. obviously, it will get harder moving forward. it will get harder let's look then at the stage after that. a more permanent arrangement. israel says it wants to wipe out hamas completely. given that as a statement and we know what hamas's agenda is in regards to israel, given those twos starting positions from both sides, how do you see it a more permanent arrangement coming about? the more permanent arrangement coming about? ,, ., ., ,, ., about? the qatari sith mentioned that a permanent _ about? the qatari sith mentioned that a permanent cessation - about? the qatari sith mentioned that a permanent cessation of - that a permanent cessation of violence and hostilities have to be the next phase after the hostage and prisoner swap. the next phase after the hostage and prisonerswap. now the next phase after the hostage and prisoner swap. now statements by hamas and statements by the israelis and recently the leader of the opposition in israel said once the swap is done and to the return of hostages, the military phase will commence once again. that is difficult for any military to stop and start but that is their statement. the qatari these are clear in their statement today, the press conference by the spokesperson, that qatar will try its best to negotiate a permanent cease—fire, but right now, the focus as i said, is on the current phase of negotiation and the release of hostages. recent a reminder of the main developments in the last half an hour or so. developments in the last half an hour orso. confirmation developments in the last half an hour or so. confirmation of the release of the latest group of israeli hostages. we have from the international committee of the red, confirmation of them saying, we now have successfully facilitated the release and transfer of 12 hostages held in gaza. we understand that 12 figure is made up of ten israelis and to foreign nationals. we heard from the idf, the israel defense forces sing a short while ago that the red cross representatives transfer the 12 hostages to egypt. quickly talking through the process here, the released hostages convoys currently making its way through egypt to the meeting point with our soldiers. security representatives will verify the identity of the released hostages at that meeting point. the families of the hostages are being updated as we speak by idf representatives with the latest representation available —— information available. so we will have some pictures of the latest stage of the transfer at some point. if and when we get those we will bring them to you. i willjust pause for a second and i think we can show them to you now. these are the trucks, you can see the international committee of the red cross. we solve them crossing the rafah crossing, the crucial crossing in southern gaza into egypt. we solve those convoy live while we were on air in the last hour and these are the latest pictures coming into us showing the latest step in thatjourney of pictures coming into us showing the latest step in that journey of that convoy of those hostages. the first time in 50 odd days, leaving gaza, crossing into egypt before they then head into israel for medical, psychological checks and of course reunions with friends, family and loved ones. let's focus now on the situation on the ground in gaza. specifically the humanitarian situation because this pause in fighting is allowing more aid to get in. something around 200 trucks a day. with that increased number of trucks and aid, there is also and increased assessment of the damage done on the ground. tommaso dells longa is a spokesperson for international federation of red cross and red crescent societies. what we have discovered on the ground is what i have been saying in the last two weeks of the humanitarian situation is simply desperate. of course, we do not want to underestimate the importance of bringing almost 200 trucks per day and which is positive news. but the reality is that humanitarian need is immense and from health to clean water, water desalination, food, the need is huge. sadly, in the four or five days of the pause, we cannot do all of the things that we need to be done. talking with palestinian colleagues who were in gaza who were telling me the biggest frustration is we know exactly how to save lives and how to prevent the possible other issues, but they don't have the means to do so. it is other issues, but they don't have the means to do so.— other issues, but they don't have the means to do so. it is around 200 trucks a day. — the means to do so. it is around 200 trucks a day. how— the means to do so. it is around 200 trucks a day, how many _ the means to do so. it is around 200 trucks a day, how many would - the means to do so. it is around give you an idea, before the conflicts, _ like to see? to give you an idea, before the conflicts, without - like to see? to give you an idea, before the conflicts, without the| before the conflicts, without the need after five weeks or six weeks to weeks of conflict 500 trucks were entering every day. of course bringing commercial items and fuel. now, untilthe bringing commercial items and fuel. now, until the beginning of the pause, we are almost 30, 40, 50 a day. not enough. the other point is how to plan. so we should know, we need to know in the next few weeks, we will continue to be able to have continuous flow of humanitarian aid to plan in advance the human maturing organisation. taking you to the latest pictures that we have been keeping our eye on. you can see the trucks there. the red cross humanitarian trucks just slightly hidden, but you can see there. we are tracking basically the latest group of hostages being released through the rafah crossing from gaza into egypt. we have been getting updates from the idf concerning exactly the process and what has happened. there latest updated saying red cross representatives told them they have transferred i2 hostages to egypt. the hostages convoy currently making its way through egypt to the meeting point with the israeli soldiers. 0nce point with the israeli soldiers. once that has happened, once that meeting is taking place, security representatives at that meeting will then identify and confirm the identity of the released hostages. at that meeting point. then, presumably, after that, we move israel where we have been seeing people get to tel aviv to get medical and psychological checks. then being reunited with their families. we are told families have been kept up—to—date with all of these developments as we see this convoy moving through the darkness. what we are also waiting for now is the release of the palestinians who are being detained or imprisoned at are being detained or imprisoned at a ratio of three to one being released. we have not seen any pictures of that at the moment and we have not had any confirmation but it is what we are waiting for. one of the lines just talking about the makeup of the group. i2 hostages in total, ten israelis, to foreign nationals. we do not have confirmation of identities at the moment, but as into when we do of course we will report those. but these seem to be the latest pictures of the convoy moving through. of course, in this pause of the fighting, the aide crossing through the rafah crossing at this point has been hugely increased, 200 or so trucks a day. but it is a difficult situation because of course, we heard earlier, the age trucks are very welcome, but the numbers are still below those in peacetime and aid agencies working across gaza in the south and the north, the difficulties in logistics to simply driving across the roads. getting aid to the people who need it is difficult. and they are also making new discoveries during this pause in the fighting of the actual needed their of the actual humanitarian need. and their appeals are for more aid to come through. so we will keep an eye on the hostages completely descriptive hostages there. and we will get more updates, people of course bring them to you. around the world and across the uk, this is bbc news. let's look at some other stories making news. a man has admitted crossing over to egypt, the first time they get out of gaza since the war started. but this is also the place where we have been hearing aid trucks have been getting in. 200 or so per day. during this pause in fighting. which is welcomed by aid agencies but they say they need it so much more and actually we heard earlier that they want to increase the number of crossing points so it is notjust the rafah crossing, they are increasing the number of crossing points to try and get more aid in. at the moment 200 trucks a day, but the discovery of the scale of the need inside of gaza has led more aid agency to issue more warnings about what exactly is needed. away from the middle east. just to keep you up—to—date with another event happening right now. rosalynn carter, wife of former us president carter as well as there to rosalynn carter as well as the latest developments in the news. do you stay with us. hello again. we had more sunshine around today, but it's getting cold very quickly now where we have those clear skies. it feels cold enough already, but the next few days are going to get even colder, more frost around, few wintry showers. but for many places, the next few days are going to be dry. colder air, though, is coming down from scandinavia and it follows this weatherfront here, which is moving its way southward, bringing some showers. but it's across northern scotland and also across some north—eastern parts of england, away from the coast that we're going to see some snow and icy conditions. maybe up to five centimeters over higher routes in northern scotland, a centimetre or two in the far north—east of england. a few showers moving southwards across other parts of england and wales, these are of rain. those keep it cloudy across the far south and south—west. so here temperatures mayjust remain above freezing by the end of the night, but elsewhere it looks like it's going to be frosty and temperatures could be as low as minus seven or so in some parts of scotland. those showers in the south—west will tend to fade away, the cloud slowly tending to break up. but the showers, i think, will continue in northern scotland running down these north sea coast. and again, there will be of a wintry flavour. snow mainly over the hills i thinkover northern scotland. but away from here a lot of dry weather, more in the way of sunshine, again. it's going to be colder than it was today too in glasgow, only four degrees maximum in birmingham. into that cold air there is this area of low pressure here. now, again, it looks like it isjust steering to the south of the uk, but it's getting close and we will see some rain through the english channel. there is a risk of some snow perhaps over dartmoor, but it looks like it is mostly rain. essentially, we're still in that colder air. a few more wintry showers there coming in to the north—east on that breeze, but the winds are quite light. for many after a frosty start, it will be dry once again. and again, it's going to be cold temperatures three or four, maybe five degrees. and that's a bit colder than we'd expect at this time of the year. this is the temperature anomaly chart full of blue there across the uk. colder than average, colder than average across much of europe. and that's where we're going to see most of the snow. there won't be too much of that here in the uk, but for the first few days of december we're still in colder air, frosty by night, mostly sunny by day. just a few wintry showers here and there. this is bbc news, the headlines on day five of the temporary cease—fire in gaza along with two foreigners. all 41 workers trapped in a collapsed tunnel for seventeen days have been rescued in northern india. the men are said to be in good health. and the first transatlantic flight on a large passenger plane powered only by sustainable aviation fuel is due to land in new york soon. welcome back. the latest on the hostages 12 release by hamas.
