We will hear tonight from our reporter inside gaza about the struggles Facing Hundreds Of Thousands of palestinians trapped in Southern Gaza and speak to one of the aid groups doing their best to help them. And after israel called for the un Secretary General to step down over his comments on the situation in gaza, all eyes remain on new york as the Un Security Council votes on two Rival Proposals on the war between israel and hamas militants. One backed by the us, the other by russia. Well stay across both throughout the programme. Were preparing for a ground invasion. Benjamin netanyahu tells his nation in a televised address. The israeli everett said when that would happen. He also said he was doing Everything Possible to bring hostages home. It comes as israeli strikes on Gaza Continue and as the humanitarian situation there continues to worsen. Though still forced to use Emergency Services as they to run out of fuel. The United Nations agency which looks after Palestinian Refugees is warning it will have to stop its work in gaza tonight if it doesnt receive more fuel. It says is currently sheltering around 600,000 displaced people in its facilities. That is for time share capacity with many people having to sleep in the streets. Overnight, eight trucks carrying food, water, and medicine crossed the Rafah Border From Egypt Into Gaza but israel has banned fuel from entering the territory, saying hamas would use it for military purposes. Mark regev, an adviser to israels Prime Minister, has told the bbc there are hundreds of thousands of litres of fuel in gaza, all in the hands of hamas. The bbc has not been able to verify this. There are growing International Calls for a humanitarian pause in the fighting, to allow aid to reach gaza, which continues to come under intense bombardment. The hamas controlled says that more children have been killed in gaza since the israeli bombardment began. More than moo people were killed in israel in the attack by hamas militants on the 7th Of October. More than 220 people are still being held hostage. Hamas is designated a Terrorist Group by the uk and other governments. Those of the latest lines on that story. But first tonight, we will start our coverage with the latest on the growing humanitarian crisis in gaza. Our special correspondent fergal keane, injerusalem has been working with teams on the ground in gaza to compile this report a warning you may find it distressing. Each climbing cloud, a marker of destruction. Relentless air strikes. Thousands of bombs dropped. Hamas started this war. Israel responds with devastating force. It is a story of stunned aftermath and desperate searching. The man was away from his home when the bomb fell. He speaks to his lost loved ones. I wish wed stayed with you. And then a child who survived. Theyre all gone, he tells her. Bbc cameras in gaza captured medics collecting the wounded. The man shouts, nasser, his head is open, speaking of the child in his arms. Mahmoud badawy daily faces the killing inflicted from the skies, but there isnt time to stop, much less show his feelings. From one scene of carnage to another. There are the survivors to care for. Translation there are many hard situations. As an Ambulance Driver you get accustomed to whats happening. Whether its hands, heads or bodies that are cut. In many families now there is the need to familiarise their children with the Morbid Practicalities of life in a war zone. Translation i have seen bodies blown apart. You cant identify anyone. So in case anything happens, either we are blown up, i would know them from this bracelet and i can collect their bodies. It is not knowledge any parent wants to impart. Sometimes in the heart of it all theres good news. Shes ok, but shes scared, they call out. Her father is being freed from the rubble. First the names, then the medics reassurance. Theyre all out, i swear. The Emergency Workers like mahmoud are overstretched, exhausted, knowing that however much they do, in gaza now it cannot be enough. Fergal keane, bbc news, jerusalem. Lets hear from our diplomatic correspondent, paul adams in jerusalem. We just saw that they are a report from oracle keying with the situation in gaza. Weve been hearing the un may be unable to continue their work if fuel doesnt get into gaza. Are we hearing any more aware were with that situation . No, this has been thel message from the un for the last several days warning that by the end of today those precious fuel stocks would have run out. They are pleading with israel to allow more fuel in, they say their entire humanitarian operation in gaza will effectively grind to a halt without it. The israelis are equally adamant, no fuel is going to go in. Israel believes this is all requisitioned by hamas to help hamas keep its war machine going as well official put it today. And the israelis are saying there is Fuel Inside Gaza and it is being hoarded by hamas. And if fuel its hamas they should be asking. By hamas. And if fuel its hamas they should be asking. Weve also been hearing they should be asking. Weve also been hearing from they should be asking. Weve also been hearing from benjamin been hearing from benjamin netanyahu, he addressed the nation we talked a little bit about what he said, he said there will be a ground offensive but of course he didnt share any details on the winds and the wise and the house. After a real sense of expectation and there was the Prime Minister delivering a Primetime Television address, everyone expected to hear something, would be about hostages, but blue background offensive, some acknowledgement about his own responsibility for as many would see it getting israel into this mess . No, none of that. And that last part would never have been probably expected. He did say that the decision on the timing of the Ground Operation had been taken between the cabinet and the Chief Of Staff of the military but he did not indicate whether that would actually happen. It was not quite the same is saying we have set a date. He was simply talking about the timing. I think there was a desire on the part of there was a desire on the part of the Prime Minister to show unity at a time when there are multiple reports of divisions between the government and the military about how to proceed. Also perhaps to show he was somewhat in touch with his own people because this is a Prime Minister who has yet to attend a single funeral of the moo People Killed in the worst massacre that this country has ever known. And many, many people are wondering why it is he seems to be afraid to face the relatives of those who have died. He did say that the state felt their pain, the interest of those that had to flee their homes, who have lost their homes in the attacks of October The 7th would be looked after and the kibbutz devastated in his words, rise from the ashes. As for any concrete and analysis of where you are and where were going were none the wiser. Were none the wiser. Thank you very much. The challenge is even worse, if aid gets and it needs to be distributed, that it requires people to steal safe which is impossible while bombs are falling. We really need a cease fire. Gadi and judy haggi who are in their 70s are still missing and believed to be among those held hostage. He now heads up pax group, a crisis and conflict management consultancy. Thank you forjoining us on bbc news. You just heard arads distressing story. First, our hearts go out to these families that are suffering l these families that are suffering through this prolonged agony of this act of taking their loved ones. After those horrible images of the violence committed against folks that were killed alongside them, this is very difficult time for them. One thing we know is happening is were surging support to those families to learn more about their ones and also opening all channels. Some diplomatic, some through third parties, weve learned that qatar has been involved with up obviously, the red cross is playing a big role in helping secure some of these releases. The other thing that is happening that as these four hostages have come out debriefing them, getting them medical support but understanding from them some of the insights of where these hostages are being held, under what conditions and learning from them about what other opportunities that might be for engagement to secure a safe release. Might be for engagement to secure a safe release safe release. When you saw the release of safe release. When you saw the release of those safe release. Some of the insights that were gleaming isj the insights that were gleaming is that these hostages, at least the mother that we just spoke to the family member, they were being held together under her words, that they were getting medical treatment and that there was concern for sanitary. Those are very positive that the Hostage Takers are seeing the value and the well being of the hostages. Now what we dont know is the motivation. I think its important to appreciate that each hostage and each Hostage Taker might have different motivations for that and we have to understand those were the only through establishing some very clear and trusted and transparent dialogue are we going to be able to understand those interests and then maybe negotiate peaceful release. Phil, do we know and understand who exactly are holding these people as well . Often in these situations hostages can be held in that they go to another group or another group. What do you see is the Current Situation at the moment in terms of who might be holding some of these 200 people . L who might be holding some of these 200 people . 200 people . I think its safe to assume that some of these folks are under the control of hamas. Some may be folks that are under the influence of hamas and there might also be folks who took advantage of the situation. Isaac is important to keep each one independent and really look for where the entry point of dialogue, rescue are not treat this monolithically. One of the most important factors in any is time. As this time has gone on you get further away from the violent way that these hostages were taken. One thing that is working for us is that it gives those hostages and the families of those hostages to really help share their message, the humanity of the individuality of the real person that is being held. And sometimes that makes a big difference in recognising that holding these folks, continuing with this kind of Pain And Suffering doesnt really help accomplish the interests of those that are holding them. . ,. ,. , them. We did have some sunshine today through the midlands and wales in particular. The earlier heavy rain across southern parts of england cleared away, but it was rather cloudy in scotland and that cloud likely to linger into this evening and overnight. Same, too, across parts of the North East Of England with some showery outbreaks of rain, a brisk east wind. At the same time, a Weather Front moving in towards Northern Ireland bringing some heavier outbreaks of rain, also in towards wales, the south west of england. And as we approach midnight and the early hours of thursday morning, that wet weather pushing in towards the midlands, the north west of england and in towards the far south east. Temperatures here overnight, a rather chilly four degrees in norwich. Not as cold in scotland compared with last night, and mild in the south west at around 11 celsius. Into thursday, a low pressure situated to our west once again bringing Weather Fronts, showery outbreaks of rain and some brisk winds around the South West Coast and the north and north east coast of scotland. Through the day, weve got the overnight rain continuing to track its way northwards towards the North East Of England and further showery outbreaks of rain through scotland as well. Some of this wet weather could well become fairly stagnant across eastern areas through the end of the week. Elsewhere on thursday, weve got some sunshine, but also a number of sharp showers and temperatures around 11 15 celsius. On friday once again, low pressure situated to the west, sending Weather Fronts, showery outbreaks of rain our way. There will be some brighter skies in the mix at times, too. You can see, though, certainly across parts of scotland, outbreaks of rain consistently pushing in from the north sea on those brisk east, south east winds. Elsewhere for much of england and wales, its a bright friday, plenty of sunshine around, but also a number of heavy showers. Same, too, in towards parts of the Northern Ireland. Temperatures similar. And then into the weekend, that area of low pressure still with us, so further Weather Fronts and outbreaks of rain. And at the same time, were starting to see a bit of a north wind developing, bringing some cooler conditions to the far north of scotland. At the same time, in between, weve got this area of rain, which could cause a few issues through parts of eastern scotland. Elsewhere on saturday, weve got outbreaks of rain and some sunshine through the midlands, east anglia and the North East Of England. So a rather unsettled outlook, and it stays that way through the tail end of the weekend and into the start of next week, too, with some sunshine but also showers or longer spells of rain at times. Thats the forecast. Hello. I Rajini Vaidyanathan and youre watching the context on bbc news.
