Hospitals are struggling. Here, medics use their phones to light the way as a patient arrives, as theres no fuel for generators and theyre overwhelmed by casualties. Israel has banned fuel from entering the territory, saying hamas, designated as a Terrorist Group by many western governments, including the uk, may use it for military purposes. The un agency which looks after Palestinian Refugees has warned it could stop its operation in gaza, as soon as tonight, without it. If we do not get fuel by tonight we will have to halt our operations and that is likely to impact at least 600,000 people currently sheltering in 150 of our schools and other buildings. With plenty of Aid Building Up in egypt, theres frustration about the sluggish relief effort. This is one of the who trucks loaded with the urgent needs for patients inside gaza. There is trauma kits, there is medicine and drugs, there is the disposable, which is much needed now to treat the patients and to manage casualties inside gaza. Theres been a big jump in the death toll, with official palestinian figures showing many hundreds killed in the past 2a hours. At the un, the secretary general, antonio guterres, said the bombardment and blockade of gaza violated international law, as did the use of civilians as Human Shields by hamas. I am deeply concerned about the clear violations of International Humanitarian law that we are witnessing in gaza. Let me be clear no party to an Armed Conflict is above International Humanitarian law. But diplomatic efforts continue. Now, International Calls are mounting for a humanitarian pause in fighting, with the us Proposing A Temporary Lull in hostilities, short of a formal ceasefire. And while israels war with hamas is raging, there are other fronts heating up. Thousands of troops are now gathering on israels northern border with lebanon, and there were strikes in neighbouring syria overnight. It adds to the fears that whats happening in gaza will create wider regional turmoil. Yolande knell, bbc news, jerusalem. So many fronts in this for. The humanitarian, as we have been reporting but also the hostage situation. We were reporting on yesterdays release of two more hostages, two israeli women, which brings to four the number out of more than 200 hostages now being held somewhere in the gaza strip, held somewhere in the gaza strip, held by hamas and other islamic groups. Some Breaking News on the hostage situation. The Reuters News Agency, quoting the qatari Prime Minister is saying that they are making progress on the Hostage Negotiations in that the negotiations in that the negotiations are intensifying. And there is also on the Reuters News Agency saying that quoting an israeli official saying qatar is becoming essential to finding humanitarian solutions. Saying its diplomatic efforts are crucial. Qatar, the gulf state where many of hamas leaders are based, was focused on the issue of trying to get the hostages release. Egypt, turkey and germany, any country which has some links to hamas is trying to address the Human Tragedy of more than 200 hostages, including from many nationalities. Lets take a closer look at what is happening in the gaza strip. 0ur correspondent in gaza, Rushdi Abualouf says there have been numerous air strikes overnight, including in the territorys south, where gazans were told to evacuate to by the Israeli Military. Rushdi filed this update. We have seen five, six air strikes around the khan younis area. One was very close to the hospital. The house was hit here with two People Killed overnight. The Health Official said about 82 people were killed in multiple strikes overnight, now they are collecting the number of air strikes, the number of people dead. We know yesterday, the largest number of people died in one day, 700 people were killed yesterday. We will see today how things are going, but the people are suffering not only from air strikes, people are suffering not only from airstrikes, but people are suffering not only from air strikes, but suffering from all the essential life saving issues, water, electricity, and here at the hospital they dont have blood, they dont have life saving kits, they dont have life saving kits, they dont have life saving kits, they dont have fuel and they said this is the largest medical centre serving half of the population and it might be stopped very soon. There is no sign yet of fuel. My talk to some localjournalists in rafah close to the border and they said they didnt notice any movement this money. Fuel is what people need, fuel is what hamas need to give the civilian hostages back to hostages if they allow the field. We understand from sources in qatar, there are serious talks about releasing the hostages and israel will reduce its Military Pressure on the south area where most of the residents are and allow feel. Without the fuel this hospital will be shut. The largest un agency provide 600,000 people with shelter, food and medicine, will be shut. We are on the edge of a catastrophe situation is even say if fuel is not coming. Until now, there is no sign of fuel coming from the egyptian side. Abouti Million People is displaced, half of the population. There is still over half a Million People who remain in gaza city and the north and they are struggling, the north and they are struggling, the same way we are and the people here are struggling. But we understand thati Million People are displaced. Imaginei Million People, thatis displaced. Imaginei Million People, that is half of the population. They are sleeping in the hospital, they are sleeping in the hospital, they are sleeping in the hospital, they are sleeping in the streets, in the un schools. I saw a two bedroomed house yesterday, like 120 people in this square. Someone told me there is no oxygen to inhale oxygen, fresh oxygen. They were sleeping to people on one mattress, kids were sleeping on one mattress, kids were sleeping on the ground. It is an unbelievable situation that gazza has never seen before. I have covered gaza for the last 25 years, wars and bits in between and never was girls that push to its neck like this time. Gaza. Unbelievable situation in gaza. We hope to speak to another resident of the gaza strip, but communications are difficult, but we will keep trying. Next, lets go to southern israel and our middle east correspondent tom bateman. In the last halfanhour or so we have l the last half an hour or so we have heard outgoing Artillery Fire, israeli Artillery Fire into the gaza strip about four or five blasts in the 30 minute since we have been here. You are hearing then about the very, very intense bombardment that has taken place once again across the gaza strip. 0ne has taken place once again across the gaza strip. One of the extraordinary things coming here is, this is a place i have been covering, conflicts over the last years, and the sense of evacuation. This place is basically entirely emptied. You really feel it when you get this close. The other thing that is worth saying, you can see gaza city, straight across the Boundary Line here. Given what we know about the numbers of israeli forces, the tanks and the artillery now amassed along this perimeter, to see gaza city on the horizon there gives you a sense of exactly the challenge of a sense of exactly the challenge of a ground invasion, what that would involve. That is why i think in the middle of this, we are hearing antony blinken, the us secretary of state, talking about a humanitarian pause and the issue of the hostages and so on. All of this playing into that decision about a ground invasion. I think here you really get a sense of exactly what that would involve, just how close these areas are a cross that Boundary Line to gaza city. It seems to be a warning there military operations, which already include intense bombardment and those Night Air Raids they have spoken of some days, that that could intensify. And yet we are still getting reports from gazans in the north saying they simply cannot move. What are you hearing . Simply cannot move. What are you hearin . W , simply cannot move. I military gave that Evacuation Order affecting 1. 1 Million People, effectively the northern half of the gaza strip to move. It has been impracticalfor gaza strip to move. It has been impractical for many people to do so, which includes the elderly, disabled, pregnant women and those who simply refused to move because they have said there is basically nowhere that is safe in gaza and that includes the south of the gaza strip. What we were hearing from the Israeli Military overnight, they say they are targeting, they claim, roadblocks erected by hamas to prevent people moving. They are now bombarding those blocks in effect to allow people to move. But obviously there is very little trust around all of this. We know the Israeli Military have been air dropping leaflets repeatedly telling people to move. But the fact remains, and particularly the reports we are getting from the main hospital in gaza city, where they cannot evacuate patients. The un has been saying, not only are they about ten times capacity for patients, they are about 5000 people being treated. The hospital normally treats around 700, but there are tens of thousands of people sheltered both in the hospital and the grounds around it. You have this combined situation of the fuel running out, the inability to treat the wounded and un inspectors have said, un staff said they have been touring the hospitals and have seen people lying, untreated with open wounds in hospitals as they put all the focus on the very critical cases, because power is running out. You have the situation with the wounded and at the same time these places have become shelters for many, many thousands of civilians, said the situation remains catastrophic for people trying to flee the bombardment. The United Nations release and works agency, unrwa is warning that fuel could run out and they could be forced to end their operations today. Israel is saying there is plenty of fuel in gaza and that further consignments could only be diverted by hamas. 0ne could only be diverted by hamas. The Terror Regime that controls the gaza strip that conducted the October The 7th massacre is choosing to keep that field to continue its war against israel. Juliette touma from unrwa. He said the problem isnt the fuel, but the people controlling the feel, what is the events reply to that . Unrwa needs the fuel and we need that shipment to come in like it now, now. We are running out of fuel and we need it for the resumption of our humanitarian operation across the gaza strip. Unrwa needs fuel. What do you say to israel which says we cannot send fuel in because it will be diverted. What processes are in place to ensure that that feel just goes to the un, who then just gives it only to the civilians . Unrwa need to feel because we have not received any shipments of fuel since the 7th of october. The fuel that we desperately need will be used by unrwa for things like un cars, un trucks and that are currently delivering the very little supplies to the people in gaza to the people in needs. We have 600,000 people in un schools and other shelters. We are giving wheat flour to bakery so people can have bread to bakery so people can have bread to eat. This is how the fuel will be used. Unrwa will use it for those purposes, for humanitarian purposes. It is life saving. We purposes, for humanitarian purposes. It is lifesaving. It is lifesaving. We spoke earlier in the week till in hastings, the l in the week till in hastings, the newly appointed humanitarian coordinator and she told us there was intense negotiations with israel and other parties to set up a system to ensure that fuel does get in and isnt diverted, can you update on the progress to ensure you can respond to israels accusations and get that desperately needed fuel in as quickly as possible . What i know is that there are as quickly as possible . What i know is that there are efforts as quickly as possible . What i know is that there are efforts at as quickly as possible . What i know is that there are efforts at the is that there are efforts at the highest level to make sure that fuel only comes to unrwa, to gaza today. Because if it doesnt come today, if it does not come today, then we are going to be put in a very difficult situation where we will have to make the decision over a reduction of a humanitarian operation, which is one of the largest we have ever undertaken in the history of unrwa. Because we have 600,000 people who depend on unrwa and our systems. I5 depend on unrwa and our systems. Is it that the fuel you need, it is used for many purposes, but it means you will not have fuel to put into a trucks which deliver the aid to shelters and other areas across the gaza strip . You wont have the fuel you deliver to hospitals to ensure they can keep running the generators. Where are the main areas of need that will suddenly not have any fuel as early as today . We have already reduced, any fuel as early as today . We have already reduced, we any fuel as early as today . We have already reduced, we have any fuel as early as today . We have already reduced, we have already. Already reduced, we have already reduced and rationed the use of fuel so the impact is already felt. We have been giving wheat flour, for example, to people with the bakeries so people can have bread and that has already been impacted. We feel it also with our fleet of cars, with people movements, less people from unrwa are able to reach people in need. We have already started. This is why it is absolutely urgent that we get the fuel desperately we need a unrwa so we dont have any further interruptions in our operations. We are still hoping we can connect to a resident in gaza to find out what the situation is like living there. Around the world and across the uk. This is bbc news. Lets look at some other stories making the headlines. Rescue efforts have resumed after a british cargo ship sank in the north sea. One person died in the incident and four others are missing. It happened after two ships collided off the coast of germany. A new report says Global Banking giants are investing in companies which produce Traditional Chinese Medicines Containing Leopard and pangolin parts. Both species are classed as threatened. Four uk astronauts could soon be heading into orbit on an all british mission. An American Company that organises visits to the International Space station is developing the plan. Youre live with bbc news. We are bringing you the headlines this hour from we are bringing you the headlines this hourfrom israel, gaza and around the world. Israels government has been telling residents in Northern Gaza to evacuate to the south of the region, warning of an imminent ground incursion. Yesterday it was distributing Leaflets Warning of an imminent ground attack. They were telling residents their safety could not be guaranteed if they stay in the north. Bombing has been taking place, notjust in the north but in the middle of the gaza strip as well as in the south. But not everyone has been able to heed those warnings, and others are choosing to remain in their homes. We have managed to reach a resident of the Northern Gaza Strip side. Joining us now on the line is saeb alzard, a resident in Northern Gaza. He may have heard the repeated warnings from israel to lead the north for your safety and protection, why havent you left yet . Hello, can you hear us . Ithink we have a bit of communications. We are going to try again. Can you hear us on the line from the northern part of the gaza strip . We seem to have lost that line, communications are difficult, as you can imagine with gaza, where electricity has been cut off. And as we have been reporting, Fuel Supplies are running dangerously low which means there is no fuel to run the generators that some are able to rely on. Lets Take A Look Beyond Israel and the gaza strip into the intensifying tensions around the middle east, including an israels northern border with lebanon. There have been warnings this crisis in israel and gaza could spread to other parts of the region. These are some of the latest images we have received from israeli tanks on its northern border with lebanon. And our corresspondent anna foster has been reporting from there. The whole has been reporting from there. Tie whole situation has been reporting from there. Tue whole situation in has been reporting from there. Tt9 whole situation in gaza right now is linked into what is happening, not just here on israels northern border but across the middle east in general. 0ne border but across the middle east in general. One of the things which is widely seen as a potential trigger for hezbollah, the group across the border in lebanon, a strong ally of twell tacro, like del tacro, a designated terror organisation. 0ne designated terror organisation. One of the things that could trigger them to step up the attacks which theyre launching on israel every day is an Israeli Ground operation in gaza. We have heard a lot of rhetoric from iran who back hamas, they back and train hezbollah and they back and train hezbollah and they will be crucial in deciding what the next steps are. Their rhetoric has been very strong but if they see hamas begins to struggle in gaza, if they think it looks like hamas wilful, which is the expression they have used before, they will trigger their proxies to go in. The situation there is not just about gaza at all, it is so finely balanced. If you look at not just israels northern border with lebanon, where i am now, but look at the situation in syria and iraq where uranium proxies have been targeting us service personnel. Look at the missiles that were fired by heathy rebels in yemen last week, fired towards israel and intercepted on the way. The situation there is so delicate, so finely balanced i think that is why you are hearing the conversations, notjust about humanitarian poses but about ceasefires. It is worth saying israel does push back very strongly on that. They said look at the attacks that have been carried out on our citizens, it is important we eradicate hamas altogether and they are very strong in that message. That is why all of these conversations are going on in the background to try and work out the best steps to take next. Anna a n na foster anna foster reporting from the border with lebanon.
