Israel has been carrying out intensive aerial bombing of gaza since the hamas attacks inside israel two weeks ago, in which 1,400 people were killed. The Palestinian Health Ministry Says about a,700 gazans, mainly civilians, have been killed in the israeli air strikes. That includes 55 people overnight. Israels military has warned civilians in gaza to keep moving south for their own safety, as it prepares to increase pressure on hamas, which is designated a Terrorist Origanisation by the uk, us and other western governments. The Israeli Defence forces said one of its aircraft also targeted a mosque in the palestinian city ofjenin, in the occupied west bank. Israel says the mosque was used by a hamas cell as a base to plan and execute attacks against civilians. Earlier, the uns humanitarian chief told the bbc that the handful of aid trucks heading into gaza was not enough. On saturday, agreement was reached to allow the first 20 lorries carrying supplies to cross the rafah border from egypt. The crossing is on the egyptian border and is the only route not bordering israel, which means its currently the only potential way to deliver humanitarian aid into gaza. Yolande knell updates us from jerusalem. Taking aim. Israeli tanks and troops are readying for a Ground Offensive in the gaza strip. Theyve been training for their fight. Commanders have said clearly that forces will enter the territory to crush hamas. For now, the military says its intensifying air strikes and there was evidence of that in gaza overnight with dozens reportedly killed, including in the south of the strip after a Million People from the north were told to evacuate here for their own safety. Meanwhile, Air Raid Sirens sounding again in tel aviv this morning, a sign that Palestinian Armed groups still have firepower. Just a trickle of aid has been allowed into gaza, now under siege by israel. These 20 lorries entered yesterday through egypts Rafah Crossing. Today, another 17 were sent. With a million displaced people and severe food and Water Shortages in gaza, there are fresh warnings about a catastrophe from humanitarian agencies. We are in regular contact with our teams who are on the ground and the scenes that they describe are horrific. And unfortunately, we are continuing to see the civilian toll of these armed hostilities rise. Buildings are reduced to rubble. People are using their bare hands to try and find survivors under this rubble. Hospitals are at a breaking point. Away from gaza in the occupied west bank, locals inspected the damage after a mosque was hit in a rare israeli air strike here overnight. Israel says it was targeting hamas and islamichhad members planning attacks. And in Southern Lebanon, Israeli Forces say they hit back at hezbollah fighters as they continue the most Serious Exchange of fire across the border in well over a decade. It all adds to the fear that this could end up in a war thats being fought on multiple fronts at once. Yolande knell, bbc news, jerusalem. The World Health Organisations tarikjasarevich told me what aid was immediatley needed in gaza. What is needed right now is to have a sustained access to gaza to bring in bring in medical supplies, but also, as you say, clean water and fuel. Hospitals cannot run without fuel and without clean water. And this is something that we have seen in many hospitals that they are using the last reserves. They are rationing the last litres of fuel they have. If you dont have a fuel, you simply dont have a light. You cannot have a surgical theatres. You cannot run incubators and other things that you need to provide life support to patients. Yes, yesterday we were able to bring in four trucks of surgical and trauma material, as well as medicines for chronic diseases. But thats nearly not enough. And we need that access. We have more supplies being ready on egyptian side and we are ready to bring those in. What we really need is security guarantees that this aid can safely get in. What kind of guarantees . I mean, who do you need those guarantees from . Because the. Go ahead. Yeah, sure. So these this has been negotiated at the political level and colleagues from United Nations are also involved. We as humanitarians are there really standing standing ready to provide support to palestinians. We just hope that what happened yesterday was just the first of the un supplies coming in. And its encouraging to see that there have been other convoys today. Really what we also need, and you have mentioned in your programme, is to look at the situation at the hospitals in north of gaza in light of the israeli order to evacuate population from there, because that includes also hospitals. Its really difficult, almost impossible to evacuate hospitals from north gaza because patients who are there cannotjust simply be moved. Many of them are on mechanical ventilators. There are newborn incubators. People are in unstable condition, and its very difficult to to move them. So we were calling on israel to reconsider this order. Yes. Talk to me about that, because israel said, look, you know, and its even warned, hasnt it, in the last few hours that if you are in north gaza, then you could potentially be in danger because obviously, theres going to be intensified bombing there. You need to move south. But its important to underline that there are many, many people who just cant do that. Well, exactly. And its really difficult question that is being asked to Health Workers. Theyre working still in those hospitals in gaza. There are more than 2,000 patients in hospital, but also people in their homes who cannot simply move people with non communicable diseases, people with Mental Health diseases, people with disabilities. And just in gaza, there are currently more than 50,000 women. So to ask Health Workers to try to evacuate patients whose evacuation would probably be a Death Sentence for those for those people, its something something really difficult. People who are on a life support simply cannot be moved. So this is why we were pleading with israel to reconsider this order. And what kind of response has that pleading had so far . Well, we are still waiting to see what will happen. 0ur voice is being joined by other un agencies to say we have to understand what is the Current Situation of civilian population. Hospitals are running beyond their capacity. They are running out of fuel, clean water, medical supplies. There are patients who are being treated in corridors, sometimes even in the yards in front of hospitals. Health workers and ambulances sometimes have to do very difficult choices on who to treat and who to leave behind. I think eventually what we need is an end of hostilities, because despite all the medical supplies we can bring in, as long as there are there are bombardments and hostilities, more people will be injured and there will be more casualties. Expressing their worry is that with regard to the humanitarian crisis. But also there is a whole regional Potential Crisis at play. It is very much the focus of The Americans and other countries, including arab regional leaders to avoid the conflict spreading. Joost hiltermann, from the International Crisis group, told me about the risk of the war spreading across the region. There is good reason to be worried, miriam, because it could easily spread on the border between israel and lebanon. But you could also see an escalation in the occupied west bank or eastjerusalem. It really, it could explode in other places as well. But what weve seen at the border between israel and lebanon so far is that the mutual deterrence between his brother and israel is that the mutual deterrence between hezbollah and israel since the last war in 2006, so 17 years ago, has held. There has been an uptick in violence, a growing number of tit for tat attacks, some lethal. People have died. But by and large, neither side has escalated beyond that. And that seems to suggest that certainly israel doesnt want to be fighting a two front war, maybe understandably, and hezbollah doesnt seem to be ready either. And i think it is in part because there are still deterrence measures in place that seem to seem to resonate. But again, that could change. And that could change for two reasons. One is somebody makes a mistake. Somebody hits the other side with a number of casualties that prove u na cce pta ble. 0r hezbollah has threatened that if israel proceeds with a Ground Invasion in gaza and causes even more destruction than it already has, and proceeds also to destroy hamas militarily, that it would then have no choice but to to act as well. I know that after, you talk about a mistake happening or something happening, after that explosion at the gaza hospital, there were protests, werent there, in lebanon, in beirut, specifically outside the us embassy and the french embassy. In fact, there is a fear, isnt there, that the us have, that the europeans have and that also regional players have, that this is going to to spread. What do you think the deterrents that youre talking about a second ago are . What are those . Whats stopping this from spreading right now . So from the israeli side, i would say the United States has indicated to israel that it should not respond to provocations or perceived provocations by hezbollah and palestinian groups firing rockets from Southern Lebanon into israel. Thats one thing when it comes to the United States and hezbollah. Thats one thing. When it comes to the United States and hezbollah, it is the fact that our to, you know, to large flotillas of us military in the mediterranean that are clearly there to tell hezbollah that if you act, there will be a massive response. So this seems to be working for the moment. Also, we have seen no sign from iran that it wants to get involved. It seems itself surprised by the hamas attack. So far, all we have seen and maybe this is a good thing, is demonstrations in the streets in lebanon and throughout the arab world and in europe as well in solidarity with the palestinians. Its a way to blow off steam. It is not the same as escalating the conflict. He spoke to me a bit about the impact of the regional crisis and in the last few minutes, we have had some news coming in saying that the Israeli Military has said that one of its tanks accidentally hit an egyptian position near the border with the gaza strip. So what were hearing now is Israeli Military making a statement. It said the incident is being investigated but the details are under reverie. The idf expresses sorrow regarding the incident. Lets talk to a bit about what is happening in the uk. Three organisations representing jewish communities in the uk have held a Solidarity Rally in Trafalgar Square in london. They read out the names of about 200 hostages captured by hamas and demanded their release. Some of those at the event have links to those taken. Marie van der zyl is the president of the board of deputies of british jews. So many people here in the uk but have got family and friends, people you know the hostages and their families. This is something that is not on a far away place, this is something that is affecting londoners, that is affecting all of us in the uk. If you can hear now, their names are being read. Its beyond heartbreaking. We spoke to one family member, who told us his mother was kidnapped from her home on the 7th october. Life is not pairing anyone for what just happened. It feels like skydiving without a parachute. We are around the clockjust working out what would be the best way to bring mum and herfriends and everybody who is really frail and sitting somewhere, i dont know and what conditions. Back home, we tried to shout loud and clear that was a crime against humanity. Humans need to stand together and say, that is not ok. They need to go back to their homes. More now on storm babet, which is hitting parts of england and scotland hard. In angus and aberdeenshire, people are returning to their flooded homes to try to assess the damage. Residents are cleaning up and making repairs. Most properties in scotland that suffered power cuts in the storm have now been reconnected. Alexandra mackenzie reports from brechin. Christine as it is across all brechin. Christine says her life is in limbo and even if she can eventually go home, she is frightened this could happen again. 0ur scotland reporter katie hunter has visited a flooded home in brechin. This Isjust One Living Room in one home in brechin, which was really, really badly affected by the storm. You can see there is just mud and debris everywhere. If you walk through into the living room, into the hallway and into the kitchen there, you can see, itjust gives you an idea of some of the damage. And then continuing out through the hall and outside, there are sandbags down here which clearly didnt stand a chance. This house is around 20 metres or so from the river and on friday morning the Flood Defences were overwhelmed. The water poured over the Flood Defences into the street and into peoples homes here. And you can see just some of the belongings that were in that house until the floodwater hit. And we can speak now to euan clark, who lives here. Euan, thank you so much for speaking to us, especially at this time. Can you just explain to us what happened in the early hours of friday morning . My dad phoned me at about 4 00 in the morning, to see if it was over. And i just looked around. The dog was looking at me. I looked down, it was flooded. The first thing that id done was go to the front door, as you would. And i opened my front door and the waterjust come right in, took me off my feet, tried my hardest to close that door and just couldnae. Ijust picked up the dog and fled for my life, basically. And you made it. When you came back and just saw the state of your house and the mud, i mean, it must have just been awfulfor you. Just cant believe it, really. I knew there was going to be damage, but i didnt think it would be this much damage. And i knew it was going. Well, i didnt think it was going to flood, to be honest, but if it was, it was just going to come up to my door, going to be like a deep indoor swimming pool. And in terms of whats next in terms of insurance, how do you stand there . Ive not got insurance. As soon as you put in that youre in river street, youre basically void from insurance unless youve got stupid money. But when we were speaking earlier, you were saying that the community is very much coming together, just speak about that. The community has come together, i cant thank everybody enough for what theyve done. I just wish that Angus Council could come in and do something. But the community, thats unbelievable. Unbelievable, the community spirit. Well, euan, thank you so much for speaking to us and i hope you get back on your feet as quickly as possible. And like i said earlier, this isjust one house, one example of whats happened here in brechin and in other places across scotland as well. And as well as flooding to homes, theres been damage to roads, to railways, to bridges. And engineers and experts are out today assessing the damage because the red Weather Warning here only subsided at 6 00 last night. Its a lovely day here in brechin and people are relieved about that. The next few days are due. The weather is due to be good, but after that there is some rain forecast. People here are just hoping that it is nothing like what they have experienced over the last few days. Fingers crossed that is the case. Lets take it from scotland to argentina. Polls have opened in argentina for the first round of the president ial elections. The far right candidate javier milei is among the frontrunners. Also standing are the incumbent minister of economy, sergio massa, from the centre left coalition, and the former minister of security, patricia bullrich, from the centre right. 0ur South America Correspondent Katy Watson reports from buenos aires. Well, the one thing that matters to every single argentinian here is the economy. This is a country that is seeing inflation well over 100 . Everybody s lives are getting more and more difficult every day. So all the candidates are pushing, you know, an improvement on the economy. But as you said, javier milei is the front runner. He is offering drastic solutions, including blowing up the central bank, bringing in the dollar as the official currency. The other two candidates perhaps are a little bit less drastic, shall i say, on the proposals. But thats what people here want. They want these drastic proposals because they want to see change in a country that has been teetering on the edge of an economic collapse for years now. You mentioned that, inflation at, what, 138 . Over 40 poverty in argentina. I mean, the economy very much is the focus for people. And what are the candidates saying theyre going to do differently from each other in terms of the economy . Well, thats what is so interesting about these elections, because javier milei has really thrown open the elections. The incumbent peronist minister, the economy minister is seen as, you know, the status quo, that actually, you know, nothing is going to change under him. The former security minister. You know, shes, again, one of the political kind of big hitters. Again, no change for a lot of people here in argentina. So javier milei is seen as somebody, hes an outsider. Hes not one of the political casters. Thats what hes touting himself as. And so thats what people want, is they want different solutions. You know, its notjust about having welfare packages. Its notjust about trying to offer, you know, options of trying to stabilise the economy. Its just thinking up very, very different solutions. But, of course, people are very concerned about that here in argentina, about the instability, about how the markets react to that. But youve also got, you know, other issues beyond the economy that people want to talk about. So javier milei, for example, talks about liberalising arms, restricting abortion rights. Hes also talked down the atrocities of argentinas dictatorship. So all of these discussions going on in argentina. But its the economy, every single time you speak to every single voter going in the doors behind me who say theyjust want to be able to live their lives as normal. Katie whats in their reporting from one 0siris. Ukrainian Officials Say six people have been killed in a Russian Missile strike on kharkiv. A missile struck a Postal Distribution Centre just outside of the city its believed the dead are all postal workers. Theres been no comment yet from russia. Jenny hill reports. This is the aftermath of the night time attack that is where the missile hit. You can really see the violence. Bits of Shrapnel Leaving Holes in those pillars here. The Authorities Say 30 workers were in here at the time just before half past ten last night, when the mess all struck. They would have had seconds to scramble to safety. Air raid sirens did go off but with very little time to spare. Those workers were working for one of ukraines most popular postal services. They were in here dealing with parcels, taking them on an offer these trolleys. They are completely destroyed. They were putting them in the backs of Waiting Lorries to be distributed all over ukraine. You can see there is a racket everywhere and some of the packaging, some of the content of those packages. There are some childrens toys lying on the floor. You can see just how violent that attack was. Investigations are still ongoing, Forensic Experts have been at the scene, we are told and the wounded were taken to hospital, still being treated. We are told some of those people are in a serious condition. President zelensky of ukraine has condemned this attack on what he said is purely a civilian facility. We have had no word officially from moscow, although throughout this war, they have continually denied deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure. Thats jenny targeting civilian infrastructure. Thatsjenny hill there. Time for a look at the weather. Hello. Well, the sun is back out again. But, of course, weve had a huge amount of rainfall in the last few days. Lets take a look at these figures. And in eastern scotland, it looks as though in excess of 200 millimetres of rain injust that one storm. Wakefield there, 144 millimetres. The South Of England also had a lot of rainfall. And just because the sun is out, it doesnt necessarily mean that the threat is completely over. You may want to check the Environment Agency website, sepa, as well in scotland to see what those river levels are doing. Because sometimes, there is quite a delay from the moment when it starts raining to when the peak of the flood waters arrive. But in terms of the weather, at least, its quiet across most of the uk today. 12 degrees in newcastle, around 15 in london, about the average for the time of the year. And weve got quite a chilly evening on the way, with clear skies and light winds. There might be even A Touch Of Frost at least early in the night across parts of northern britain. You can see barely above freezing there at 5am in aberdeen. But much milder in the south west of the country, around 13 in plymouth. Thats because we have a south westerly wind. A Weather Front is approaching. Therell be some rain around tomorrow i think in the very far south west of the uk. But i think the bulk of the country on monday, again, another decent day, with bright or sunny skies. However, rain is threatening to reach the south later on monday and into tuesday. This next Weather Front sweeps in from the south. So i think more wet weather to come at least across some parts of the country. So, yes, were in a sort of spell of drier weather now, but more rain is forecast. Its not going to be anywhere near as widespread and persistent at least, not until tuesday or wednesday. Later on wednesday, it does look as though the weather is going to go downhill once again, as another very large area of low pressure sweeps in off the atlantic. And i think its initially western parts of the uk that get the rain early on wednesday. Here it is, the next Weather Front. Heavy rain for south western england, for wales, Northern Ireland too. And then later on wednesday, that Weather Front will progress towards the north and the east of the country, and with that, some very strong winds. So the outlook overall is looking unsettled. No two days are going to be the same. Temperatures will be around average. And if you look at these weather icons, i think at least rain showers most days for most of us.
