Are needed every day to cover gazas essential needs. Israel sealed its borders with gaza, imposing a total blockade on the strip 12 days ago following the hamas attack on israel in which 1,400 people were killed. The Rafah Crossing between egypt and gaza is now the only way to get vital supplies in. A warning this report from wyre davies contains images you may find distressing. Two weeks after the start of this war, the first signs of limited progress and relief entering gaza on the back of a truck. Aid agencies bringing in basic supplies, food, water, and medicine. There have been an unprecedented number of israeli strikes against hamas related infrastructure, but palestinian Authorities Say 4000 people have been killed in gaza, many of them children. A small but significant breakthrough as us israeli mother and daughter were freed from hamas captivity in gaza, though 200 hostages remain. At an emergency summit in cairo, the Foreign Secretary criticised four murderous actions, and reminded israel at an emergency summit in cairo, the Foreign Secretary criticised hamas murderous actions, and reminded israel of its obligations. I have spoken directly to the Israeli Government about their duty to respect international law, and the importance of preserving civilian lives in gaza. Despite his relatively small diplomatic breakthroughs, most analysts say they will not change the inevitable course of events. Israel, they say, is facing an existential crisis, and that must remain the countrys number one priority. I think that theres quite determined decision that we cannot, cannot stop, will not agree to any ceasefire, and in order to achieve the goal, which is a quite ambitious goal, to dismantle hamas from all its military capabilities, we will have to start a Ground Operation sooner or later, and we are not going to stop before such a goal is achieved. There is a reason that israelis, old and young, are so adamant about this. Two weeks ago, this woman was a peace loving 20 something having the time of her life at a festival in the israeli desert. It is innocence shell never recover. As squads of hamas gunmen stormed the festival, shooting indiscriminately, she fled for her life, finding cover under some desert scrub. She would hide motionless there for eight hours. I did not know they were going to take hostages. Every time i hear or see the interaction, they shoot, and they shooot for killing. October the 7th will go down as the most fateful day in modern israeli history, as hamas gunmen mercilessly murdered at least 11100 people of all ages in towns and communities across israel. Today was the first time she has ventured out in two weeks, the nerves in her leg damaged by her ordeal. From someone who believed in coexistence, she is now a frightened sceptic to the peace between israelis and palestinians. Wyre davies, bbc news, tel aviv. In the past couple of hours, the Israeli Military has hinted that it is preparing to step up its strikes on gaza to put further pressure on hamas militants there. Army spokesman rear admiral Daniel Hagari told reporters the increase is also intended to minimize the danger to Israeli Forces when they enter the next phase of the war. Translation it will minimise the risk to ourforces translation it will minimise the risk to our forces in the next stage of the risk to our forces in the next stage of the war risk to our forces in the next stage of the war and risk to our forces in the next stage of the war and we risk to our forces in the next stage of the war and we are risk to our forces in the next stage of the war and we are uoin risk to our forces in the next stage of the war and we are uoin to of the war and we are going to increase the attacks from today. We will increase the attacks and therefore are gaza City Residents to continue moving south for their safety. I call on gaza City Residents. Earlier we spoke to our correspondent paul adams in jerusalem. To our correspondent he says theres hope more aid will be allowed into gaza now that 20 trucks have been allowed in. Interesting. We have not heard anything today to suggest this earlier we spoke to our correspondent is going to continue yet. Israeli officials did say earlier on today they still no reason why it should not but at the moment i hear nothing no concrete plans for aid to continue tomorrow. We may wake up tomorrow and find the 150 or so tracks lined up we may wake up tomorrow and find the 150 or so trucks lined up outside the Rafah Crossing are starting to move and that will be extremely welcome if they do. As you have just heard about this 20 trucks makes practically no difference at all to the absolutely dire and increasingly dire situation that exists in the gaza strip at the moment. Aid Officials Say we need 200, 300 trucks a day, particularly if they have to carry water, a very bulky thing to transport. There is a hope but not as far as i am aware a concrete plan yet for this to continue. Also today, this so called Peace Summit In Cairo with various representatives from Middle Eastern countries, no one from israel, iran or the us either. What were the results from that . It would be pretty remarkable if israel, iran and the United States had gathered at the same place at the same time. It was a hastily organised summit by the egyptian leader, Abdel Fattah El sisi. It had various notable absences. The americans were only represented by their charge daffaires in cairo. Tells you The Americans didnt think it was probably worth attending. It was an opportunity for arab leaders to voice some of their very grave concerns about the way this crisis is going. The egyptian president is extremely anxious and has been saying so for days about the possibility palestinians might be forced out of the gaza strip and into the sinai peninsula, something he says will be extremely dangerous. Others like the king ofjordan has spoken about the fact that what we are witnessing at the moment in gaza, what has been going on the last couple of weeks is an inevitable result of International Community taking its eyes off the Peace Process for decades and letting the situation drift. It was an opportunity for getting things off their chest. No agenda, no final declaration, no plan. In some ways, it didnt really serve much of a purpose. Let us show you the scene live at washington where people are out on the streets calling for a ceasefire. We received a statement from President Biden in the last hour about eight to gaza. He said the United States is committed to allowing residents access to food and water. We will keep an eye on those live pictures of those protesters out on the streets when we talk to our North America correspondent who is in washington following developments. Live now to shingai nyoka, our North America correspondent. What do you make of this statement . Yes, in that statement he attributed the opening of the Border Crossing to the result of days of high level negotiations and also expressed his appreciation to the egyptian president as well as to Prime Minister netanyahu. An earlier statement by this State Department and Antony Blinken had also attributed the success in opening this Border Crossing to days of exhaustive american diplomatic engagement in the region as well as the visit by President Biden so the us is really looking at this as a success as a result of its recent visit. ~. ,. ,. ,. , visit. What we have seen in the last week or so, just growing the last week or so, just growing numbers of people expressing concern about the fate of palestinians so these are not necessarily pro hummus protest demonstrations. Many of the people i spoke to a couple of days ago condemned the hamas attacks. And condemned the attacks on both sides and especially the groups that support palestine are saying the us is not focused on earning as much on the palestinian situation as it is known israel but what we have seen from President Biden is increasing emphasis on his concerns for what is happening in gaza and trying to ensure that the humanitarian assistance that is needed gets to where it is going. I think generally, the us is in support of israel and the majority of people want to see israel defend itself but what we are seeing increasingly are pockets of resistance, calling for a De Escalation and as a ceasefire. Yesterday We Saw Pictures Of The Two American Women Being released by hamas after negotiations. 0ther hamas after negotiations. They would not go into details about negotiations that may be happening. They would not attribute the qatari government which has been instrumental we understand in getting the release of these two hostages but the us has a lot of work ahead and in the Statement Today President Biden alluded to the fact they are trying to get us citizens in gaza across the border so those discussions are still under way. Many of these american citizens have been at the Rafah Crossing for days, unaware and unable really to move from places of danger to places of safety. Danger to places of safety. Thank ou ve danger to places of safety. Thank you very much the metropolitan police say up to 100,000 people took part in a pro palestinian protest earlier in central london. 0ne arrest was made in relation to an incident last week. The co organisers, the palestine solidarity campaign, were calling for an immediate ceasefire in gaza and for full humanitarian aid to be sent in. In the last 2a hours, similar protests have been held Around The World in places like thailand, australia, the netherlands, south africa, and several arab countries. And thats all the sport for now. Thank you very much. Let us return to events in the middle east. Its exactly two weeks since hamas launched its unprecedented attack on southern israel. Earlier i spoke to anne feingold, who lives in netanya in israel. She has four sons. Two in england and two who are now in the israeli army. I asked her about the situation in israel now, and her hopes for the future. Israel at the moment has come to a halt, everyone is holding their breath. This is the third sabbath now we have had since the dreadful hamas attack. So every day has been very long. We have had people moving to the hotels and peoples homes if they have spare rooms or spare flats. All the children and their full families have moved up from the south. Everyone is very involved in providing any health care that they need, any day to day stuff, food, laundry, the whole country has mobilised to volunteering knowing that these families need practical stuff even though they are traumatised from having left the south and the kibbutz that was involved in the onslaught in october the 7th. So the country is very sad, very different. The men generally are not here, the men have all been called up to duty so it is very much the wives looking after the kids and grandparents. There is a huge volunteering cohort now being brought in to support the people from the south and now also from the north so israel is a very changed place. It is very hard place to be at the moment. It is a small country so everybody has been affected by it, theres a lot of funerals to go to and young people and myself unfortunately have had to go to a lot. So it is not the country that was before, it is a very sad place and we are also dreading what is going to come now as well knowing that israel has to defend itself. Everybody knows that. Nobody wanted it but it came to israels door and this is where we are. Holding our breath at the moment and trying to just to live in day by day. You breath at the moment and trying to just to live in day by day. Just to live in day by day. You are oriainall just to live in day by day. You are originally from just to live in day by day. Some parts of the country have had between 100 and 200 millilitres of rain. The exact figures have still yet to be verified, but they have been exceptional. Now, the red warning has expired from eastern scotland, but the Amber Warning for heavy rain is still valid in the north of scotland. We have to wait a little while before this Weather Front completely clears away and i think by this stage, already, well be experiencing Better Weather conditions in the east of scotland. Actually, across many parts of the uk, its a case of generally clear weather, dry weather through the night. And its also going to turn quite chilly, perhaps murky, misty in a few places. The Early Morning temperatures on sunday will be two in aberdeen, about that in newcastle. But i think in most bigger towns and cities, closer to around five to perhaps nine celsius. Now, the troublesome low that has brought all of that mayhem is now moving away to the north. This is the weather map for sunday, and were actually in between Weather Systems so some decent weather, im very pleased to say, on the way. From morning onwards, a lot of bright, if not sunny, weather. Yes, there will be a few showers here and there, but nothing compared to what weve had in the last few days. So overall, a bright day, if not sunny day for most of us, and much, much better across scotland. Look at that, sunshine and 11 degrees there in aberdeen. But sunday into monday, the next area of low pressure approaches and this one Will Reach Southern Parts of the uk. And also, another Weather Front will reach northern ireland, too. So, through the early hours of monday, the next Weather Front approaches, whereas many parts of the country wake up to sunshine. And its going to be a very decent day across scotland in terms of the weather. Northern england also fairly bright. But across the south, the next spell of rain is approaching. And, in fact, that Weather Front will be sweeping northwards across monday night. And the outlook is looking very unsettled across the uk, with the risk of further heavy rain and also Gale Force Winds right across the country. So a very unsettled outlook on the way. Bye bye. Israels military says its going to put more pressure on hamas as sis ground offensive. The un says its negotiating for a second convoy of aid to be allowed into gaza on sunday. 20 truckloads crossed from egypt earlier the first since israel imposed a total siege on the strip. One of englands greatest footballers, and Manchester United legend, sir Bobby Charlton, dies, at the age of 86. And storm babet continues to batter parts of the uk , bringing high winds, severe flooding and risk to life warnings. Lets continue our coverage of events in the middle east and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak Has said the government is working intensively trying to get british nationals out of gaza, through the Rafah Crossing. He wanted to ensure that those trapped in gaza would be able to leave through the crossing while ada entered. He also said there needed to be a stream of trucks rolling through to bring aid
