Generate electricity. Israel has refused to allow that. Its thought only 20 trucks will be allowed to cross initially once an agreement has been reached. Aid agencies have described the Situation Inside Gaza as beyond catastrophic, a hellhole. Hospitals are running out of medicines and fuel for generators and Food Supplies which are lower in some people only having dirty water to drink. More than i some people only having dirty water to drink. More thani million civilians have now been displaced. Gazas Health Ministry says more than 4100 people have been killed. 0vernight a Greek Orthodox shirt than 4100 people have been killed. Overnight a Greek Orthodox shirt was hit and at least 18 people have said to have been killed and dozens more wounded. The Israeli Defence force said they had targeted militants nearby. And anger continues to build in many arab capitals. These are the pictures from egypt after friday prayers. The president has confirmed he will be hosting a Summit In Cairo tomorrow with leaders from arab and european countries. And in the last few hours the Israeli Military has an update on the hostages saying 20 of them are children, and between ten and 20 are over the age of 60. They said most of the hostages were alive. More than 1400 israelis were killed in the hamas attacks nearly two weeks ago. We start with this report from john bateman. In gaza, the rescuers are still saving who they can, but the civilian death toll continues to mount, amid israels bombardment. And frustration is spilling over. Translation we dont want to receive aid. We want the destruction and the killing of children in their sleep to stop. We are tired. Israel says it hit more than 100 hamas targets overnight, killing a top figure involved in the October The 7th massacres. With a Million People homeless, scrambling for food and water. The supplies are readyjust over the border in egypt. But despite hopes the trucks would start rolling today, they are at a standstill. The worlds top diplomat headed to the crossing himself to put on pressure. What we need is to make them move. To make them move to the other side of this wall. To make them move as quickly as possible and as many as possible. President biden, just back from the region, promised funding for more weapons for israel to fight hamas, but he made another call for restraint. We mourn every innocent life lost. We cant ignore the humanity of innocent palestinians who only want to live in peace and have an opportunity. And after his meeting with the saudi leader yesterday, the british Prime Minister rishi sunak is now in cairo, amid talks to try to stop this crisis spreading. But there was more rocket fire from gaza deep into israel last night. And the Israeli Occupied west bank is at boiling point. Dozens of palestinians have been killed by Israeli Forces and settlers in the last fortnight. The israeli army has been putting these kind of roadblocks all over the place. Its stopping ordinary palestinians moving from city to city. And that is adding to the very volatile atmosphere. This is no longer about the Current Crisis spreading from gaza to the west bank, it is already here and its getting worse. Meanwhile, for the israelis whose loved ones are being held hostage by hamas or still missing, there are few answers. Shira perezs Brother Daniel is a soldier, among those who fought the attack on an army base near gaza. Its impossible to accept, and i think me personally, ive become numb to the situation because if i accept how truly hard and truly sore this is, i dont think my body will be able to accept it. Israels forces, massed on the gaza perimeter, are still waiting for the order to go in. It could come at any time. The rest of the region is bracing itself. Tom bateman, bbc news, jerusalem. We were saying earlier that rishi sunak is arriving in egypt and he is meeting with president ssi in cairo and stressed the importance of humanitarian aid reaching gaza. Thank you for your kind and warm words and for the tie will spend together, as an important time like this it is right that partners and friends like us can talk about the situation. Can i also first commend you for what you have done on the crossing in rafah, and its something we spoke about a while ago and we are committed to providing humanitarian aid into gaza and we look forward to playing an Important Role together with egypt to make sure the aid can get to people as quickly as possible. You deserve enormous praise for your role in making this possible. Enormous praise for your role in making this possible. Thank you very much. I making this possible. Thank you very much i also making this possible. Thank you very much. I also want making this possible. Thank you very much. I also want to making this possible. Thank you very much. I also want to share making this possible. Thank you very much. I also want to share with making this possible. Thank you very much. I also want to share with you i much. I also want to share with you much. I also want to share with you my thoughts much. I also want to share with you my thoughts about much. I also want to share with you my thoughts about what much. I also want to share with you my thoughts about what hamas much. I also want to share with you | my thoughts about what hamas did, and appalling act of terrorism. And we now mourn the loss of every innocent life that has been lost, people of every faith, every nationality, palestinians are victims of hamas as well, and that is why what we are doing on the aid side together is so important, and i also share with your vision for the Palestinian People where they can live security and opportunity and dignity, and i know these are all of the topics you will have an opportunity to discuss now and im grateful for the partnership at this difficult time. Grateful for the partnership at this difficult time. That was rishi sunak talking about difficult time. That was rishi sunak talking about aid. Difficult time. That was rishi sunak talking about aid. Andrew difficult time. That was rishi sunak talking about aid. Andrew harding l difficult time. That was rishi sunakl talking about aid. Andrew harding is also in egypt with a jordanian aid convoy and set this update just after arriving. We have just arrived in egypt close to the border with gaza, with a consignment of humanitarian, medical aid from jordan, its just been flown in on a cargo plane. We are about 45, 50 kilometres from the egyptian border with gaza. This consignment willjoin all the other International Humanitarian aid that is now waiting to get into gaza so that people there so desperate for outside help. This is going to be the start of a very long and complicated International Humanitarian mission, there are plenty of threats security wise, the israelis are still bombing south of gaza, close to the border, the israelis are concerned that this humanitarian corridor could be used by their enemies, hamas, to smuggle in arms, weapons. And then there is a real danger that at any moment all this could stop because the Israeli Ground offensive into gaza might begin. People have been forced to leave their homes during the war and our own staff have been impacted and im sad to confirm that another 200 Staff Members have been confirmed killed which brings the total number of staff that we lost to 16 this afternoon. So, it is taking a very personal toll for all of the Relief Workers there on the ground, despite everything they are working to in terms of trying to alleviate this. Absolutely. Our own staff have been impacted, like i said, some of them sadly killed and many of them have been displaced and forced to leave their homes and many of them have lost loved ones and their own homes. There are those who are still there providing for people in need across the shelters, about 100 shelters in the gaza strip where we have staff on the ground giving whatever is left of the humanitarian supplies that this is why we need more supplies. We need more supplies. On that point, how alarming and frustrating as it that the Border Crossing point remains closed . The siege has to be lifted. Humanitarian supplies must be let into the gaza strip. Its been two weeks that gaza has not had anything come in. Nothing has come into gaza, no humanitarian supplies not from any organisation and the siege has to be lifted and people are in desperate need of basic supplies and we need fuel as well especially for the water and resumption of our operation in the gaza strip, our humanitarian operation in the gaza strip. We need fuel and need it now. Israel has been clear that fuel will not be allowed in and i know you are in Constant Contact on the ground. What are you being told about why there is this hold up and what sort of any timescale might be that you expect. I do not have a timescale but i know the un is engaged at the highest level in advocacy efforts so that convoy is let in. So its not a one off convoy. Gaza needs at least 100 trucks per day of humanitarian assistance and aid including fuel and these convoys must be regular and sustained. You touched on the shelters and premises earlier and roughly i know these are not exact figures but do you have an idea of how many civilians and your staff are still in un premises in the northern parts that israel has made clear that people have to vacate . We know at least half a million are sheltering in 100 un shelters, and this is the latest number we have and we are struggling, the teams on the ground are struggling to give assistance to people in need in those shelters across the gaza strip there are estimates from the un that there are1 Million People who have sheltered in other facilities or with family and friends. In terms of though shelters, what proportion remain in the areas that israel must vacate . The vast majority are in the south but we are starting to notice that some of the displays have started moving back north because the situation in the south at the shelters see them overcrowded so we are starting to notice that trend as well. We are seeing pictures as you speak and that is one of the places where so many people have ended up. So give me an idea of what sort of infrastructure is in place and what sort of supplies of water, food and medicine exist there . We have shelters and another warehouse that was not meant to shelter human beings and it was meant for supplies that has been turned into a shelter. I visited it myself and it is a huge warehouse, the largest that the un has in the region and its now hosting 8000 people in a very un humanitarian conditions. There are hundreds of people who are sharing one toilet. And the supplies are running out and our own staff have had to ration water to one litre and we have moved the centre of the operation to the same warehouse. A final question, you have long experience in humanitarian work. Is this the worst moment you have dealt with . Certainly it is a very tough moment and what is happening right now is unprecedented. The latest indication out of the timeline, so negotiations are continuing, but it does look as though the Border Crossing point might not open today and might open tomorrow, so that is the latest from our correspondent paul adams. A Greek Orthodox church Sheltering Hundreds of displaced palestinians in gaza city was hit overnight. At least 18 people are said to have been killed and dozens more injured. Those safely, and there are no reported injuries or fires. Those are some of the latest stories making the headlines in the uk. Youre live with bbc news. Lets return to the middle east. The Israeli Military say its evacuating everyone from the Northern City of Kiryat Shmona as clashes continue with the iranian backed hezbollah across the border with lebanon. There is growing concerns about israels conflict with hamas spreading across the region. The city has a population of about 20,000, the israeli army said it had carried out several attacks on hezbollah targets in the early hours. It said fighterjets had struck people attempting to launch anti tank missiles towards israel. Our correspondent hugo bachega has this update from beirut. For days we have been talking about rising tensions across the lebanon and israeli borders and these attacks have intensified this weekend and it seems today has been a particularly tense day along the border with hezbollah launching a number of attacks targeting israeli positions including with guided missiles and the Israeli Military said it was responding to those attacks, including with artillery fire, so again, tension is really high along the border and the israeli authorities announced today that they were evacuating the residents here, Kiryat Shmona, a city of about 20,000 people, very close to lebanese border and here in lebanon residents are also fleeing those villages near the border. Yesterday we were down in one city and we visited a shelter and there were 300 people who had fled nearby villages in recent days because of the constant shelling and attacks happening in that part of the country. And the fear here is if there is an escalation of the violence, lebanon could be dragged into the conflict and earlier today there was a spokesman for the Israeli Military who said israel would continue to retaliate to those attacks and theyve been carried out by militants from hezbollah but also palestinian factions that operate in southern lebanon, so a tense situation with residents from both sides. Give me an idea of the sort of anger we are seeing on the streets in the region. We have seen in recent weeks that protests have been held in many countries across the middle east and i think there is more anger following the Hospital Explosion in gaza. I think all eyes here in lebanon are on hezbollah. And what the group is going to do next. There is a lot of anxiety over what will happen in gaza. I think people here believe that hezbollah might react if the israelis go ahead with a Ground Offensive into gaza, an offensive expected to happen to happen in the next few days and also iran, i think, lots of people believe that the decision about the steps to be taken by hezbollah will not be taken in lebanon where the group is based, but will be taken in iran, because iran is the main supporter of hezbollah and this is a powerful group in lebanon and the fear is that this country may be dragged into this conflict. Many people here remember the devastating war of 2006 between hezbollah and israel so lots of people fear that history might be repeating itself. Straight to Breaking News away from the middle east and we will turn to the middle east and we will turn to the us. , , the us. Donald trump, those multiple Court Appearances the us. Donald trump, those multiple Court Appearances there the us. Donald trump, those multiple Court Appearances there and the us. Donald trump, those multiple Court Appearances there and the Court Appearances there and the latest from new york. Let me tell you that the judge in that case, that civil case going on in new york has threatened to imprison donald trump for blatantly violating a gag order after the former president failed to remove a Social Media Post mocking the judges clark. That has just happened and is being widely reported in the us, multiple sources, but let me give you some of the background because this Civil Court Case has been going on for a number of weeks, but the judge today asking trumps lawyers why this blatant violation of the gag order would not result in serious sanctions including financial sanctions including financial sanctions and, or, possibly imprisoning him. Thejudge issued the gag order against donald trump on the second day of the trial, so a few weeks back after he attacked the judges clark in a Social Media Post. Greenfield has been assisting thejudge post. Greenfield has been assisting the judge throughout this trial and the judge throughout this trial and thejudge ordering that the judge throughout this trial and the judge ordering that the post be taken down and it is still not, so a really, really clear statement from the judge, really, really clear statement from thejudge, threatening to imprison donald trump for blatantly violating that gag order after the president failed to remove that Social Media Post. We will watch that story being reported in new york. There is bound to be more detail so we will return to be more detail so we will return to that in the next little while. Lets return to the situation in the middle east. Now for more on the International Diplomatic push in response to the situation in gaza. President biden is meeting the President Biden is meeting the president of the European Council and the president of the European Commission at the white house and the next hour. Lets speak to kelly petillo, middle east Programme Manager at the European Council on foreign relations. Welcome to the programme. Your assessment, first of all, in terms of any sort of european leg in this diplomatic activity we are seeing. Yes, as we know from looking at the reaction in the past few days, the eu has had quite contradictory stances from different high level officials, and we have seen that with the stances, we are finally seeing a Levelling Back to what the official Europe Opposition tends to be witches support but under International Support you might see the visits from various eu leaders and also to other countries involved like egypt and this push is mostly revolved around humanitarian access and trying to complement the us in terms of support to israel. But reiterating the parameters of international law. For viewers watchini international law. For viewers watching around international law. For viewers watching around the international law. For viewers watching around the world,. International law. For viewers | watching around the world, of course, the us, israels principal ally, but how much influence do the europeans have with israel and assess the strain between some of the european positions and the positions of the american administration. Positions of the american administration. The European Osition administration. The european position has administration. The european position has been administration. The european position has been somewhatl position has been somewhat contradictory and of course the ties with israel are alive and very strong. We first of all share a geographic proximity with israel and we are in the mediterranean and the ties are very high. At the same time, the us is the Israeli Security provider so there is a division of labour between the us and europe in terms of what the offer is to israel, but i think in terms of the role that they have played so far, they share in common this expression of solidarity and support. The only public stance we have seen from both europe and the us is going to israel and showing unwavering support and reiterating the need for rules but at the same time we havent seen any handshakes in terms of trying to secure a diplomatic breakthrough in the aftermath of this atrocious war. Ive only got 40 seconds left, but briefly, does it feel in terms of diplomacy that the Ground Invasion is inevitable and unstoppable . I think, in many ways the Ground Invasion is inevitable in terms of israels intention but its also stoppable in terms of if the un and us can send a message to israel very clearly saying, we are by your side but at the same time, you need to stop the bloodshed. Our Partnership Means respect for international norms. We are generally adhering to those norms and you need to make sure you stop the atrocities. We have to leave it there. Apologies for that but we are out of time. Thanks for your time. Hello. We have seen some large waves pummelling the coastline, the north sea and this was South Shields on the wins have been gusting around 60 miles an hour around the north sea coast, and flooding has been the other major concern, particularly in parts of scotland where we have five severe Flood Warnings in force along stretches of both the North And South River Esk and as well as the five Flood Warnings we have 16 in scotland and another five for wales and a for england. A large chunk of those affecting the midlands where we have seen disruption to transport and some schools have been shot as well. Todays Weather Warnings, the Amber Warning stretches from the north midlands to the Scottish Borders and they will be joined by further Weather Warnings in scotland overnight and notice another top level, read Weather Warning. These warnings for scotland stay in force tomorrow and another 70 to 100 millimetres of rain in angus and aberdeenshire and in the red warning it means we are likely to see some further severe flooding. During the evening and overnight, the heaviest rain will be to the eastern side of the pennines for the most part and some wet weather with a risk of some Flooding Building and but overnight the rain will move back across scotland, hence the Renewed Amber and red Weather Warning area where we are going to see some further impacts. For saturday, we start to see an improvement in the weather across the midlands and eventually north east england but some of the rivers across this part of the world can take a while to respond so even onceit can take a while to respond so even once it has stopped raining, the flooding who get worse before it gets better and all the while the rain pours down across Eastern Scotland with those amber and red Weather Warnings remaining in force throughout the day. There is something of an improvement in the lead on sunday with many of us having a drier day with more in the way of sunshine, but flooding could be a concern even if its not raining where you are and some of those rivers can take a little while to crest. Temperatures between 12 and 15 celsius and what we need is a long spell of dry weather after that, but its not what we will get. Next week we have further areas of low pressure bringing further zones of heavy rain. Thats not going to be great news. Is chips as they are the difference between life and death. Aid agencies says gaza has become a hellhole with time running out to get help to civilians. Meanwhile, the anger grows, more pro palestinian protest in yemen, egypt and the west bank today. More on the situation in a moment, but i want to spend the next couple of minutes updating on the Breaking News from new york regarding former president trump, because a new york judge has threatened to imprison donald trump for blatantly violating a 939 donald trump for blatantly violating a gag order after the former president failed to remove a Social Media Post marking the judges clerk. Donald trump faces multiple charges in new york, thejudge had asked his lawyers why this blatant violation of the gag order would not result in serious sanctions, including financial sanctions or possibly imprisoning him, and this relates to a post attacking the judges law clerk which had been
