Welcome to Southern Israel. We are less than a mile from the border with gaza. In the last few minutes three more rockets fired by hamas have landed not far from here. Throughout the day we could hear and see israels in doing attacks against Northern Gaza. Continuing attacks. You can see the city where many of the residents have fled south, fleeing israeli air strikes where the attack still continue. In the latest and diplomatic development, joe biden has confirmed he will arrive in israel tomorrow to hear first hand from the israelis about their plans for an expected Ground Invasion. It follows the attacks ten days ago here in Southern Israel by hamas which killed 1300 israelis, including other nationalities. Hamas is an organisation designated as a Terrorist Group by many western governments, including the united kingdom. 0vernight local officials in gaza say they were more israeli air strikes, in gaza say they were more israeli airstrikes, more in gaza say they were more israeli air strikes, more than in gaza say they were more israeli airstrikes, more than 100 air strikes, more than 100 palestinians airstrikes, more than 100 palestinians were killed and in the past more than ten days, more than 2700 palestinians have been killed in israels retaliatory strikes. The United Nations is a warning about humanitarian catastrophe in gaza as israel continues its complete siege of the area, cutting off food and water and fuel. Those supplies are fast running out. The only crossing from Gaza Into Egypt is now shut, and lorries are queueing on the egyptian side of the border. In the midst of all this the United States and israel say they are developing a plan to get aid into gaza. We have this report and all the latest developments from our middle east correspondent. The scramble for survivors in this crater where homes used to stand. This was Northern Gaza after another deadly israeli air strike. At another scene, a mans stretchered out alive. But there were also childrens bodies in the rubble. This was in the south after a million palestinians were told to move here for their safety. Israels military says its targeting hamas hideouts and militant sites. Before dawn, lorries loaded with desperately needed aid were lining up in egyptjust across the borderfrom gaza. Hours later, the Rafah Crossing remained firmly shut. The dilemma how to get supplies to needy civilians but not hamas. When President Biden visits, it will be high on his agenda. The United States and israel have agreed to develop a plan that will enable humanitarian aid from donor nations and multilateral organisations to reach civilians in gaza, and them alone, including the possibility of creating areas to help keep civilians out of harms way. It is critical that aid begin flowing into gaza as soon as possible. For israelis still reeling from the hamas atrocities a week and a half ago, there is growing fear about some 200 people, including children, being held hostage. But hamas has now released footage showing one woman alive. Mia schem is 21. The bbc doesnt usually show hostage videos. But her family agreed we could use these pictures. They are demanding her release. I am begging the world to bring my baby back home. She only went to a party, to a festival party, to have some fun. And now shes in gaza. And shes not the only one. There are many children who went to this party. As israel gets ready for an escalation in its offensive in gaza, the presence of so many of its own citizens held captive is a worrying complication. But its military insists its sticking to its goal, to eradicate hamas. Yolande knell, bbc news, jerusalem. The 11th day of this war and growing anxiety about the fate of these hundred and 99 hostages. The military activities are intensifying, the humanitarian crisis is deepening and the diplomatic activity is gathering pace. President joe biden will not just visit israel, he will go to neighbouring jordan where there will be a 4 way summit hosted by the king ofjordan and also attended by the president of egypt and the Palestinian Authority head. The president and the other Palestinian Authority has its way is occupied by israel. Letsjoin our authority has its way is occupied by israel. Lets join our state department corresponded. Barbara plett usher. President biden has already sent Antony Blinken who has met six arab leaders. He is back in israel, why does President Biden feel he must be here himself . He does President Biden feel he must be here himself . Here himself . He wants to show the stronaest here himself . He wants to show the strongest level here himself . He wants to show the strongest level of here himself . He wants to show the strongest level of us here himself . He wants to show the strongest level of us support here himself . He wants to show the strongest level of us support for strongest level of us support for israels security and there is no other way, stronger way than with a visit. I think also he wants to convey that to israel, again the americans have also been underlying a message of deterrence, trying to avoid escalation, sending messages through arab partners to iran that there should be no attempt to take advantage of this situation and get involved in the conflict, especially through his brother mac, which is backed by iran in lebanon. He wants to underline that, already it has been underlined by military hardware in the region. He also wants to hear what the israeli strategy and aims are, with a view to minimum civilian casualties. There is a realisation in the white house that although there is a strong belief that the israelis should strike back hard, because hamas should not look like it is able to win. There is also a concern that a harsh campaign that does even more damage to civilians than has already been done could have a Blowback Effect on israel, that arab governments would refuse to work with it because of the anger in their countries. I think there might be a sense now that mr biden would not want them to overreact. That has not been said explicitly but he is somebody who has so fully and emotionally identified with israel that some analysts feel that if he goes there, that might give him the ability to push israel more effectively, if he wants to do that. If he shows he cares, he would have more influence in that respect. find more influence in that respect. And he would hepe more influence in that respect. And he would hope to be able to claim some successes, some concrete successes some successes, some concrete successes during his short time here. He will then have to take messages he received here and assurances to jordan where messages he received here and assurances tojordan where there will also be pressure on his visit for him to show results, that he can achieve results. Achieve results. Yes, this focus on humanitarian achieve results. Yes, this focus on humanitarian assistance achieve results. Yes, this focus on humanitarian assistance to achieve results. Yes, this focus on humanitarian assistance to gaza. Achieve results. Yes, this focus on i humanitarian assistance to gaza has strengthened by the americans in the last week as Secretary Blinking took his Lightning Tour of the region. That is what he heard in every arab capital, that they were very concerned about civilian casualties and eight are getting into gaza. He gave the President A Call after his trip and said this is what i am hearing in arab capitals and so President Biden told him to organise something with the israelis to be able to get aid in through the Border Crossing with egypt. They had at least seven hours of negotiations with the israelis yesterday about that. Even then Antony Blinken came out and said they had only agreed on a framework, they had not agreed on an actual arrangement yet. He said america understood israels concerns, that hamas might get this aid, israelis have been wanting to organise some Security Searches for the trucks coming in, which hasnt been sorted yet. And there are reports there was bombing near the crossing today. This is the crossing with the aid would come in. There is a long way to go yet, or it seems it is not imminent anyway and mr biden will be discussing this humanitarian issue with the israelis and taking that message to the summit in jordan. I think it is carefully arranged that he is seeing the arabs as well as the israelis because this is a gamble for mr biden. Ultimately, this means he will be closely identified with what happens in gaza over the next days, weeks, and that would maybe be in association with increasing bloodshed. 0ne Association with increasing bloodshed. One of the spokespeople from the white house said that the timing of the visit was organised, in part because of the pressing humanitarian concerns and the need to sort it out. It is important for the president to show he is not only standing in solidarity with israel after that attack, but also meeting with the arabs. He after that attack, but also meeting with the arabs. With the arabs. He will hope that this photograph with the arabs. He will hope that this photograph of with the arabs. He will hope that this photograph of him with the arabs. He will hope that this photograph of him standing | this photograph of him Standing Shoulder to shoulder with is merely Prime MinisterBenjamin Netanyahu will in history go down as the photo which marked a good Turning Point in the war and not a Turning Point into even more suffering and chaos. Thank you for following all of the developments for us. Hundreds of thousands of gazans will be hoping against hope that President Joe Biden by his presence in the region can make a difference and ease that siege that has been imposed on gaza. We are told by the United Nations that food, fuel and water is running out, and that even in the south where israel had ordered more than a million palestinians to three. Live to london now, melanie ward is the ceo of medical aid for palestinians. A long standing charity working with palestinians both in the west bank and gaza. Your people are still on the ground. Tell us, what are the conditions they are working under . It is absolutely catastrophic. I have got 19 staff still on the ground, one has been made a refugee in egypt already. 0f ground, one has been made a refugee in egypt already. Of those 19 all but two have been displaced from their homes and everybody is under constant bombardment, including those who have fled to the south. Despite that, my amazing staff are doing everything they can and yesterday were able to deliver its medical supplies to the hospitals, but the humanitarian system is collapsing. The only Cancer Hospital in gaza is about to shut up shop because it is the Ministry Of Health has issued an urgent call for anybody in gaza who has any feel, any diesel, even av to can to take it to the hospitals because the generators are about to stop working, and then life saving equipment for babies, old people, injured children cannot continue to function. One of my own staff has been displaced with her family and they are running out of water. They are boiling dirty water to drink it, to try and stay alive but it is making the children sick. The situation is catastrophic and getting worse. Pare situation is catastrophic and getting worse situation is catastrophic and getting worse. Are your staff workin getting worse. Are your staff working both getting worse. Are your staff working both in getting worse. Are your staff working both in the getting worse. Are your staff working both in the north, i getting worse. Are your staff working both in the north, where israel issued an evacuation order, telling more than a Million People to leave, or have they been moving south where conditions are also dire and getting worse . Tiara south where conditions are also dire and getting worse . And getting worse . Two of my staff have remained and getting worse . Two of my staff have remained in and getting worse . Two of my staff have remained in the and getting worse . Two of my staff have remained in the north, and getting worse . Two of my staff have remained in the north, they. Have remained in the north, they have remained in the north, they have remained in their homes. They said they will not leave their homes and be displaced again because of the palestinian history of displacement and the fear that if they move under this forcible transfer that they will never be able to return home. The rest have fled to the south but are living in terrible conditions, some of them are in un shelters, some are in apartments with their families with 50, 70, 80, 90 people in very small apartments where conditions are awful. People are sleeping on the streets in the south of gaza because humanitarian aid is unable to reach them, and under continued bombardment. We are frightened about what is going to happen, i dont know if my staff are going to survive. There are regular people, aid workers. 0ne survive. There are regular people, aid workers. One of my staff, on friday night, he spent the day on friday night, he spent the day on friday getting medical supplies, the last available medical supplies into the hospitals of gaza. 0n last available medical supplies into the hospitals of gaza. On friday night israel dropped a bomb on his house and he and his wife and children managed to survive, but his 13 year old niece was killed. It took him six hours to find the body because there are piles of dead bodies everywhere and people are being buried in mass graves. These people are aid workers, parents, they are normal people. I am really fighting for the children of gaza. Today we have reached the grim market where 1000 children in gaza have been killed in is merely action in the last few days, that is one child being killed every 15 minutes. There are a million children in gaza and if the is really a tax ramp up, the consequences for the children are going to be utterly catastrophic. If the attacks from israel ramp up. Catastrophic. If the attacks from israel ramp urn catastrophic. If the attacks from israel ramp up. Very grim, thank you for updating israel ramp up. Very grim, thank you for updating us israel ramp up. Very grim, thank you for updating us with israel ramp up. Very grim, thank you for updating us with the israel ramp up. Very grim, thank you for updating us with the conditions i for updating us with the conditions faced by your staff, still working under these enormously dangerous and difficult conditions, and about the plight of gazans. A child being killed every 15 minutes. It has been called a war on children. And children died here too in Southern Israel, ten days ago when hamas fighters rampaged across this territory, committing unprecedented massacres. This crisis goes on, the agony and anxiety deepening. You can hear the sound of artillery. And the worry is deepening that this hot spot here could so easily light a fire across this region. We will keep a eye on all the developments, including President Joe Biden cosmic visit to this region tomorrow. But for now i will hand back to london. Thank very much. These suffering and tragedy, stories are in every corner, every person you are meeting, whether it he is a doctor struggling to find a couple of hours to sleep, or a businessman who has left big business behind nl with his family has to live in a shelter or school. You go there and you find a queue of people just waiting for hours to get five pieces of bread. There is not enough for 50 people and the family they are evacuating with. I am told by a doctor that they do not know for how long israel will keep the Border Crossing shut. Yesterday there was some hope, people were a bit optimistic when they heard egypt would allow humanitarian aid to gaza but very quickly they were back to believing this will not happen easy. The hospital here said they are going to run out of fuel tonight at midnight and all the operations, this is the second biggest city, the second biggest hospital, and the hospital which is supposed to be servicing two thirds of the population will be shut down by midnight. The Palestinian Mission to the uk is also warning of the imminent collapse of the Health Sector in gaza. Take a listen ido i do not have exact and updated information because it is evolving but i know 41 medical personnel have been killed until last night, i do not know the numbers now. I know among them are very prominent doctors who provided a lifeline to the hospitals in gaza. But we know. We know the medical supplies are running out, we note generators, because alleges that he is out, there is a blackout in gaza, we note there is a blackout in gaza, we note the generators that require fuel are running out. And you know the consequences of that, forget about those who are targeted by air strikes, the consequences are normal people who are on Life Machines and all that. Babies in incubators etc. We know also that medical staff, medical teams have been targeted by air strikes, we can see the footage and images. We had a National Catastrophe here, they started this, they came in with their flags and slotted pregnant women, killed babies and kills families. That is not what we do. Diplomatic efforts to contain the war are intensifying. Turkey says a peace summit is planned in egypt. While King Abdullah ofjordan is in berlin, where hes held talks with chancellor 0laf scholz. Hes stated that as long as efforts to find a long term political solution fail, the cycle of violence will continue. Hundreds of thousands have no access to food, water, electricity and other basic services. This is unacceptable on all levels, legal and human. This year is already the bloodiest year for palestinians and israelis in recent memory. It will get much worse unless we stop this war and the get much worse unless we stop this warand the human get much worse unless we stop this war and the Human Catastrophe it is creating, and stop it we must. We must all stand against all forms of violence and with its victims, no matter their identity, nationality or religion. Your excellency, the whole region is at the brink of falling into the abyss, that this new cycle of death and destruction is pushing us towards. Enough is enough, we cannot continue the cycle of violence every single year unless there is a political horizon that brings israelis and palestinians together, that allows israelis and arabs to come together, this will continue to be a cycle of violence that none of us can afford. Us President Joe Biden has confirmed he will arrive in israel tomorrow to hear the Israeli Forces plans for a Ground Invasion in gaza. The us and israel have announced they will Work Together to develop a plan to get aid to gaza. 0ur Diplomatic CorrespondentJames Landale has more on the agenda of President Bidens visit to israel. If you think about it, american diplomats have been crisscrossing the gulf and so have other diplomats and ministers from other countries to try and get some progress. They so far have failed, there is no movement on the border, no protection for civilians, no hostages freed. What the americans help is that President Bidens presence will unlock those difficulties, simply by being there any way they hope that is going to happen is by persuading, as they claim they have, the israelis too, in their words, develop a plan to get humanitarian assistance into gaza. That is the core of this, that is something arab leaders have been telling the americans, that action has to be taken on that front and the american seem to be convinced that the israelis are going to move on that. This is a big card to play, american president s do not travel on a whim and not on trips that are put together any matter of days. It is very unusual for a us together any matter of days. It is very unusualfor a us president together any matter of days. It is very unusual for a us president to enter what is effectively a war zone to try and actually shape the nature of that conflict. This is a big play by the americans and a huge test of their diplomatic and military heft in region. If you want to get more on this developing story, to go to the bbc cosmic life page. It is absolutely essential reading at times like this. It is updated minute by minute ijy this. It is updated minute by minute by our correspondence, both in the region and here in london, giving you all the very latest lines, pictures and videos. Stay with us, business is coming up in a couple of minutes. Hello. The weathers going to turn really rough over the coming days, but today is actually not bad at all. Lots of bright, if not sunny weather, and thats how its going to stay for the rest of the day. But then, midweek onwards, its going to be really horrible. And i think, by thursday, strong winds and the rain is going to be the biggest problem, i think, associated with storm babet, visible on the Satellite Picture here spiralling to the west of portugal. The Weather Fronts extending northwards. And, in fact, well see a series of Weather Fronts sweeping across the uk, delivering a lot of rainfall. And here is the Rainfall Accumulation as the days go by. The heaviest of the rain initially in the south of the country. And then i think by thursday and Friday In Eastern Scotland and along the north sea coast and further inland around the north of england, in some spots in excess of 100 millimetres of rain. But heres tuesday, the rest of the day, so dry and bright across the bulk of the country. But the Weather Front is starting to approach us. You can see the rain here approaching southern and western ireland, temperatures between 12 and 15 degrees celsius. So the winds start to strengthen through tuesday night into wednesday, by the early hours with heavy showers in the south of england into wales, Western Parts of scotland too. But still, for most of us, i think the weather is generally dry. Now, heres the weather map for wednesday and storm babet s Weather Front, in fact, multiple Weather Fronts, Pressure Lines here close by. So that means strong winds and the winds run along those Pressure Lines more or less. Now, normally when we get gales, they tend to tend to sweep in off the atlantic out of the west, these Gale Force Winds will start to develop out of the east, south east, now in some spots, gusting to about 50 miles an hour. And then actually as the days go by, they even get stronger in some northern areas. So look at all of that rain in the south, south west, into northern ireland, really torrential in places. And then, through early thursday, that rain moves northwards and these Rain Clouds Kind of align themselves like a Conveyor Belt along that strong to Gale Force Wind blowing out of the south east. So thats why those rain clouds will keep coming at this part of the country here. So hence the most amount of rainfall here and the possibility of some disruption. Thats it. Bye bye.
