Translation i would like to iterate our principal position, we will be ready to consider the possibility of reviving the grain deal, i told the president about it today and we would do it right away. As soon as all the agreements recorded on lifting sanctions on the export of russian Agricultural Products are lifted. Ukraines black sea ports are now effectively blockaded by russia, experts say it will have to rely heavily on its ports along the danube river to export grain into neighbouring romania from where it can be transported further afield as romanias ports remain open. For many countries the grain from russia has been critical, north africa where they have been experiencing drought that has been a real problem. To discuss whats at stake im joined by arnaud petit, council. Are you disappointed they could not Reach Agreement to day . There are considerations like financial transactions, we know that now it and cannot be happening just in well the Russian Agricultural Bank be reconnected to swift. I5 Russian Agricultural Bank be reconnected to swift. Is that likel to reconnected to swift. Is that likely to happen reconnected to swift. Is that likely to happen that reconnected to swift. Is that likely to happen that is reconnected to swift. Is that likely to happen that is one | reconnected to swift. Is that. Likely to happen that is one of president putins he demands . It is difficult straightforward to your question. What is clear is for the russian grain sector, there is a clear interest to reopen the swift bank because they have a lot of grain in russia, and only one way to facilitate the trade is to have the swift system. In terms of what this is doing to grain prices, what has happened since the agreement broke down . I would say we have not seen a Significant Impact on price, the way that weve we have not seen a spike, the price has decreased, the black Sea Grain Initiative the price went up by 40 and now it has stabilised the risk is in the nearfuture the risk is in the nearfuture the price will go up. What is at stake is 12 million tons of wheat which it will be very difficult for ukraine to do it. Inaudible. Difficult for ukraine to do it. Inaudible. , inaudible. President putin says he will suwly inaudible. President putin says he will supply some inaudible. Bear in mind it is a volume of that . Bear in mind it is a volume of 1 that . Bear in mind it is a volume of1 million that . Bear in mind it is a volume of1 million tons, volume ofi million tons, russia has exported more than 42 million tons, so you see it is not compensating the needs in terms of grants for the global market, definitively. Thank you for your time and expertise on all of this. What does this mean for inflation, generally speaking, many countries around the world grappling with stubbornly high prices with most of the worlds Central Banks raising interest rates, all eyes on the draw reserve in the us once again. Here in the uk the latest data is out to show that Consumer Spending rebounded in august but when adjusted for Inflation Retail Sales fell in july. To make sense of all of this imjoined by craig erlam markets analyst at oanda. We are all inflation watching, no matter where you are in the world currently stop where are we at in terms of the fair fact about prices because things have really improved as the uk government predicted, analysts predicted over the summer months . Predicted over the summer months . ,. ,. , months . Things have improved dramatically months . Things have improved dramatically the months . Things have improved dramatically the primary months . Things have improved | dramatically the primary reason why we are seeing improvements is because of energy costs, the price at the plant, Household Energy bills, that has been driven by the fact over the last 12 months they have fallen quite considerably because of the efforts of various governments to make sure they have sufficient stockpiles, companies reliant on russia. Also the Global Economy has slowed, there is less demand for oil these factors means when we are comparing prices in these areas to a year ago it is much more favourable from an inflation standpoint, you hear Central Banks talk a lot about energy costs, but Core Inflation remains still quite high. That is a bigger concern because that is things Like Services inflation, wages, other costs which are harder for Central Banks to drive down without slowing the economy even further. That said, that are still expected to improve even further going towards the end of the year, when we come to the turn of the year we will be talking about Inflation Levels may three, 4 around europe and the us and that is much more favourable figure from where we have come from but not good enough for Central Banks to start cutting rates. We dont expect that to come. For the uk you said three or 4 in the us and europe are in including the uk that . Headline inflation in including the uk that . Headline inflation in the including the uk that . Headline inflation in the uk including the uk that . Headline inflation in the uk could including the uk that . Headline inflation in the uk could be inflation in the uk could be around 4 by the end of the year shy of that or higher, there or thereabouts by the end of year perfectly achievable. That is driven a lot by things like energy cost because energy costs are expected to fall further by the end of year and that will have a big role to play and things like Food Inflation which has been a hot topic which came close to 20 at times over the course of the year is expected to decelerate, that could take some more heat out of the inflation numbers. Hopefully around the turn of year that could have a beneficial impact but i expect the move from 4 back to 2 levels to take longer because again, for that to happen what we need to see as we need to see businesses obviously normalising the prices which means input costs have to normalise for a protracted period of time and we need to see wages come back. I do think wages will come back to much more regular levels because prices do. More regular levels because prices do prices do. Thank you, craig erlam. Now to the airways and a name that has dominated the Airline Industry down under is to retire early. The Chief Executive of the Australian Airline qantas has quit two months earlier than planned, after a difficult few weeks for the company. Alanjoyce, who has held the post for 15 years, says hell retire early to help the firm move ahead. Vanessa hudson will take over as the carriers first female boss. So what is going on here . As you say | 15 years on the job and it does seem his legacy has been somewhat dashed, the reason for this is the amount in controversies qantas has found itself facing, it has recently had record profits but there has been a series of scandals and that has led to growing anger among the australian population. The airline is facing legal action on numerous fronts. Most recently australias competition regular agency they would be investing the airline about 8000 flights that were cancelled and consumers were not performed, customers had tickets on these flights while the airline even continue to sell tickets for multiple weeks, even though they knew these flights were cancelled. The airline has admitted fault and said that has caused reputational damage but that is by far and away not the only thing that has caused reputational damage for qantas recently. They have faced a slew of criticism over everything from Price Gouging to delays and cancellations to the fact that consumers are talking about long waits they have to go through to get through to somebody on call centres, they are also facing criticism about the way workers were treated during covid i9, and caught it was found qantas illegally outsourced thousands of jobs, illegally outsourced thousands ofjobs, all of this comes as the airline also records record profits, last month it recorded 1. 5 billion profits last year. That is leading many to question what is the future of this airline. You state Vanessa Hudson who was the chief Financial Officer will be taking the reins, when she was announced in may she said restoring reputation would be her top priority and indeed she certainly has quite the job on her hands. The Weather Story so far this week has been dominated by sunshine and heat. And i suspect as we go through the week ahead, its all going to be about numbers. 30 degrees was recorded on monday across parts of england and wales. Highest temperatures of the summer 23 was back injune with 32. 2 celsius, but there is a possibility as we go through the week with heat and humidity building, that we could see 32 degrees, maybe even higher. That would be ironic because september is the start of meteorological autumn. For tuesday, though on the whole we will start off with a little bit of low cloud, mist and fog across Eastern England and maybe shrouding the far north of scotland, but that will quickly burn away. A lot of sunshine coming through, generally light winds. And once again, it is going to feel warm, if not hot in many places with Temperatures Peaking once again at around 29 or 30 degrees. Now, as we move out of tuesday into the early hours of wednesday morning, well see yet again more low cloud, mist and fog developing. A little bit more extensive, perhaps coming in across Eastern England. But it will be a mild at night, temperatures widely into the mid teens. So as we move into wednesday, were still under this influence of High Pressure with lows sitting out across iberia. And thats driving in this southerly breeze, so it will turn increasingly more humid as we go through wednesday and thursday. And its wednesday and thursday that we may well see those Temperatures Peaking. So to start off on wednesday, yes, perhaps a murky start, but it wont be long before that sunshine breaks through and we will see those temperatures continuing to climb with that light southerly wind direction. So highs possible of 31, maybe a degree or so higher as well. We will keep a very close eye on that as we go through the day on wednesday. Into thursday, theres a risk of a few thundery downpours breaking out with that increasing humidity, they should be fairly isolated. But if you catch one, you may well know about them and theyre likely to be up through the north west. Top temperatures generally of around 21, again into the low 30s across central and southern parts of england and wales. The dry, settled conditions continue into the weekend with the risk potentially of some rain, perhaps from monday onwards. Take care. Good morning. Welcome to bbc breakfast.
