He will release his own 100 page report on what he calls the stolen georgia election, two pages bigger than the charge sheet against him and his 18 accomplices. And well tell you how the us Treasury Secretary came to accidentally eat Magic Mushrooms while on a visit to china. First a Welcome Development here in the uk. Inflation fell sharply to 6. 8 injuly, from 7. 9 injune. But it still means prices continue to rise. Prime minister rishi sunak says it shows his governments plan is working, but he cautioned against complacency. The drop was fuelled by lower energy costs. But Core Inflation which looks at price rises excluding food and energy remained unchanged. According to the office of national statistics, the rising costs of hotels, air travel, and rents are among the costs keeping inflation high. Economists are still expecting Interest Rates the tool used by the Bank Of England to control price rises to be raised further. Our economics editor faisal islam reports. The heat may be coming out of rising prices at supermarkets and convenience shops, and that can be seen, for example, in milk prices on the shelves of this shop in walsall. Overall they are still rising, butjust by less than they were. This area was, originally, about two months ago, all a pound, so every single bag was £1 but then they went up to £1. 25, and now we have seen a further increase for newer stock which is £1. 35. And is it going to go back to £1 . No, it is definitely not going to go back to a £1, i think this will be the new price. But some things have gone down . Some things have, like the cost of milk has gone down. That has gone down, and we have noticed that on the point but things like these that arent made from milk, havent gone down, these have gone up. Here and in shops across the country, they are still updating prices on a weekly basis, but falls in gas and electric bills are offering a glimpse of a more normal economy. Todays figures were driven by those first falls in average Household Energy bills, which soared amid the Russia Ukraine war even after government support. July saw the first fallback to about £2000 for an average dual fuel bill. That has helped drive down the Inflation Rate from a high of ii to under 7 . Though that is still higher than other similar countries, and well above the target of 2 . And elsewhere in the economy, the key Service Sector inflation measure, which includes restaurants and hotels, actually rose to a joint 32 year high. At this robotics and Automation Business in walsall, they have the technology to help boost the economy. They say they are riding out the rising Business Costs but are worried about rising Interest Rates. From our point of view, automation and robotics, the uk lags quite woefully in truth, so the impact on access to finance and the cost of borrowing could further have a negative effect on that. What are you most worried about now . From our own perspective the biggest concern for us is high Interest Rates, and whether that will actually slow down general industry, and the general approach to investments. Back at this walsall shop, the owner says his customers are still facing the Cost Of Living crisis. Last year he subsidised hot Water Bottles to help, and may need to again. I wish we didnt have to do it but i think. We will have to again this year. Inflation seems to be following, now, quite rapidly. Does it feel like the crisis point is over . No. I think we are still in it. With some prices going back there is a path out of this long period of economic uncertainty, but todays evidence is that it will remain bumpy. Faisal islam, bbc news, in walsall. Amanda renteria, former Campaign Directorfor hillary clinton. Jack blanchard is the uk editor of politico. It is great to see you both and jack it is great to see you both and jack i want to speak with you. Inflation numbers coming down but the cost of rent, cost of food still high. We alwa s rent, cost of food still high. We always knew rent, cost of food still high. Always knew that inflation was going to fall today because of this energy price, and is kicking in for the first time in these monthss figures. The comparison with other comparable countries to the uk, uk is the only country of major western economy that will be celebrating a 6. 8 Inflation Rate. As faisal was just saying, the Inflation Rate higher than the us, higher in germany, higherthan higher than the us, higher in germany, higher than france, higher than the us, higher in germany, higherthan france, it isnt a good picture for britain but its at least improving. This is a very political thing in the uk. Rishi sunak promised inflation would health by this time. Were talking about inflation, 5 which is way above what british people are use to, way above what the Bank Of England has had as its target which is 2 , still not really a good news story for the government and of course the crucial context politically is there is a general election looming here next year in the last thing the government wants to be doing is going into that with whatever one perceives to be a cost crisis. We whatever one perceives to be a cost crisis. ~. , whatever one perceives to be a cost crisis. ~. , ,. ,. , crisis. We happen to have ust the numbers that i crisis. We happen to have ust the numbers that you i crisis. We happen to have ust the numbers that you just crisis. We happen to have just the numbers that you just mentioned | crisis. We happen to have just the i numbers that you just mentioned so crisis. We happen to have just the numbers that you just mentioned so i want to bring those and just now. You see the uk here at 6. 8 , the us at 3. 2 , germany at 6. 2 and france at 3. 2 , germany at 6. 2 and france at 4. 3 . Amanda coming to you, we have been able to bring those numbers down but it seems most americans dont sense that impact on the economy yet. Americans dont sense that impact on the economy yet the economy yet. Thats right, if our numbers the economy yet. Thats right, if our numbers look the economy yet. Thats right, if our numbers look good, the economy yet. Thats right, if our numbers look good, some i the economy yet. Thats right, if| our numbers look good, some of the economy yet. Thats right, if our numbers look good, some of that is that our numbers look good, some of that is that we our numbers look good, some of that is that we are in an Election Cycle and of is that we are in an Election Cycle and of course President Biden and the Administration Want to talk about the Administration Want to talk about bringing that down and that we are in about bringing that down and that we are in a about bringing that down and that we are in a better place than we were. Onthe are in a better place than we were. On the other are in a better place than we were. On the other hand is opponents will want to on the other hand is opponents will want to say, yeah do you feel that way . Want to say, yeah do you feel that way . Some want to say, yeah do you feel that way . Some of the people are feeling this is way . Some of the people are feeling this is in way . Some of the people are feeling this is in an way . Some of the people are feeling this is in an Election Cycle, this number this is in an Election Cycle, this number is this is in an Election Cycle, this number is important, its still a fact that number is important, its still a fact that people use, everyone is going fact that people use, everyone is going to fact that people use, everyone is going to look at it closely and i know going to look at it closely and i know the going to look at it closely and i know the certainly the administration are hanging their hat on it administration are hanging their hat on it we administration are hanging their hat on it. We need to make sure we bring our economy on it. We need to make sure we bring our economy back in check and we are taking our economy back in check and we are taking care our economy back in check and we are taking care of our economy back in check and we are taking care of people again. Thats a key taking care of people again. Thats a key number, always, that were all going a key number, always, that were all going to a key number, always, that were all going to take a look at and it is good going to take a look at and it is good news going to take a look at and it is good news when it comes down. Elections good news when it comes down. Elections cycles always start a little earlier in the us, this is something thats going to be facing the Prime Minister as well, what do these numbers, the impact he had they have on him . They have on him . Significantly lower. Reasonable they have on him . Significantly lower. Reasonable chance they have on him . Significantlyl lower. Reasonable chance that they have on him . Significantly lower. Reasonable chance that that will be the case. But inflation is only part of the economic picture here, and the report you heard from the Business Owner talking about high Interest Rates, that is another hugely political issue in this country and is something that feels a long way off changing it, and of course the high Interest Rates we are experiencing, particularly hitting homeowners very hard, they are a key voting group in the next election, those high Interest Rates strangely in this country are pretty much universally blamed on the government. Rishi sunak s predecessor was a Prime Minister for a whopping 49 days, but she managed to crash the economy to the point where Interest Rates have sent through the roof and havent really come down again. The ruling conservatives are very much tied to those Interest Rates, people blame them very specifically for that economic measure and so, you know, inflation is not the only thing that rishi sunak needs to get a handle of if hes going to win back some support that his party lost last year. Support that his party lost last ear. ,. ,. ,. , support that his party lost last ear. ,. ,. , year. Those are going to be important in year. Those are going to be important in both year. Those are going to be | important in both countries. Junior doctors in scotland have voted to accept a pay offer from ministers at holyrood, ending the threat of further Strike Action. The deal involves a total pay increase of i7 over two years. Junior doctors had been planning to take Strike Action before the latest pay offer was made by scottish ministers. It will cost Scottish Government £61. 3 million and will be met from existing budgets. ButJunior Doctors in england remain in dispute with the westminster government, with those on strike looking for a 35 rise to bring wages back in line with the huge cuts made in 2008. So jack and amanda, lets bring you back in, jack starting with you. The fact that in scotland the Junior Doctors have come to an agreement, how does that affectJunior Doctors here in england that are Still Holding out . Here in england that are Still Holding out . Here in england that are still holdin. Out . ,. ,. , holding out . This is actually a very olitical holding out . This is actually a very political move holding out . This is actually a very political move by holding out . This is actually a very political move by the holding out . This is actually a very political move by the scottish political move by the Scottish Government. The Scottish Government, run by the Scottish National party, very very different approach to the conservatives done In Westminster who run the nhs in england. I think the smp i think scotland will have wanted to be seen to be taken a different approach to westminster. Set up these Dividing Lines saying look, we do things different differently from those guys down there. We dont want that to happen to hear, we have to take a different approach even if it means we have to pny up approach even if it means we have to pony up a lot more money to stop that happening. And In Westminster the argument that the treasury is making that these sorts of big pay rises that the scottish Junior Doctors are going to now enjoy, would be in themselves inflationary why they are not prepared to do it across the rest of the public sector. Relatively small group of people the scottish Junior Doctors, and he probably think they can do this and get away with it, score a political win over their rivals down In Westminster. Just political win over their rivals down In Westminster. Political win over their rivals down In Westminster. Just to followup on that, jack. In westminster. Just to followup on that, jack the In Westminster. Just to followup on that, jack. The prime In Westminster. Just to followup on that, jack. The Prime Minister In Westminster. Just to followup on that, jack. The Prime Minister said l that, jack. The Prime Minister said backin that, jack. The Prime Minister said back injuly that that, jack. The Prime Minister said back in july that they that, jack. The Prime Minister said back injuly that they had made a final offer and that number would change and that no amount of strikes would change that decision. Do you think that was him mistake, how long can that position be sustained if Junior Doctors are going to be striking . Junior doctors are going to be strikin . ,. Junior doctors are going to be strikin . , ,. ,. , Junior Doctors are going to be strikinu . , ,. ,. ,. , striking . Thats a great question, no one knows striking . Thats a great question, no one knows the striking . Thats a great question, no one knows the answer striking . Thats a great question, no one knows the answer to striking . Thats a great question, j no one knows the answer to that. Striking . Thats a great question, i no one knows the answer to that. By every metric its been an Incentive Crisis for some time now in terms of Waiting Lists an Ambulance Waiting Times and many many other things, so the last things that they need is prolonged Strike Action by such a core part of the workforce. And you know, where these strakes to continue into next year it would only add to that sense of crisis around, a very very Central Public Service and one a lot of people will be taking into account when they are voting. But equally as you say, there have been very very stringent in what theyre saying, they sort of tied these pay deals to border economy and say we cant just tied these pay deals to border economy and say we cantjust cough up economy and say we cantjust cough up large amounts of money because it will only send us further into a sort of Price Wave Spiral which is terrible for the economy so were just not going to do it. Theyve left themselves a lot of room to manoeuvre their. The left themselves a lot of room to manoeuvre their. Left themselves a lot of room to manoeuvre their. The us office obviously has manoeuvre their. The us office obviously has no manoeuvre their. The us office obviously has no national manoeuvre their. The us office obviously has no National Health j obviously has no National Health service, but eight out of 25 major Work Stoppages involving a thousand workers are more that the us labour force. ,. ,. ,. , force. I think it came to simply, ways of thinking about came to simply, ways of thinking about health care and relieve the pressures about health care and relieve the pressures on the Health Care System that those pressures on the Health Care System that those that are and it really face every that those that are and it really face every day and that really allowed face every day and that really allowed for a back and forth new negotiation for and how should we think negotiation for and how should we think about Health Care Workers in this country, how should we think about this country, how should we think about Health Care Workers overall. But we about Health Care Workers overall. But we are about Health Care Workers overall. But we are also saying the Union Movement but we are also saying the Union Movement increase during a time of inflationary movement increase during a time of inflationary periods and as we are starting inflationary periods and as we are starting to inflationary periods and as we are starting to think about a new work life balance, a lot of things got upended life balance, a lot of things got upended by co vid and i think we will still upended by co vid and i think we will still see folks upended by. Pandemic will still see folks upended by. Pandemic certainly had that impact globally didnt it. You amanda and jack, well be back with you in just a moment. Around the world and across the uk. Now to the latest in former president Donald Trumps indictment in the State Of Georgia on 13 charges of attempting to overturn the 2020 election results. Mr trump will appear in court in georgia for his arraignment between tuesday september five and friday september eight earlier, we heard that fani willis has proposed a trial commencement date of march fourth. As you might remember, this is related to the charges brought against the former us president earlier this week. Mr trump and 18 Co Defendants are facing 41 criminal charges, including racketeering, conspiracy to commit forgery, and making false statements. The District Attorneys Office wants all 19 Co Defendants to surrender and appear for arraingment in the atlanta courthouse by friday next week. Meanwhile, mrtrump has announced he will release his own report into what he calls Election Fraud in georgias 2020 election. Those claims have been batted down by multiple courts in the us. But the New York Times is reporting that the former he president is preparing to release a report more than 100 pages long. The indictment in georgia it was 98 pages long. Lets bring in our panel, amanda and jack. Amanda, you know, we were speculating that this report is meant to be more than 100 pages long, the indictment in georgia was 98 pages long. Is it as simple as the former president wanting to release a longer report . The former president wanting to release a longer report . Well, we alwa s release a longer report . Well, we always have release a longer report . Well, we always have known release a longer report . Well, we always have known that release a longer report . Well, we always have known that president j always have known that president trump, always have known that president trump, earlyjan coined the term alternative facts. What everyone is wondering if its going to be a report is wondering if its going to be a report or is wondering if its going to be a report or a is wondering if its going to be a report or a movie or what kind of distribution report or a movie or what kind of distribution. This is very much exactly distribution. This is very much exactly his distribution. This is very much exactly his way of responding to a serious exactly his way of responding to a serious allegation of something hes done serious allegation of something hes done no serious allegation of something hes done. No matter what weve ever seen his campaign, there was always something that was going to turn the attention, something that was going to turn the attention, something to look at, something that actually presented those something that actually presented those alternative facts and now you have more those alternative facts and now you have more than 98 plus two report. Those are have more than 98 plus two report. Those are tricks trump uses to get attention those are tricks trump uses to get attention but also use his platform he has attention but also use his platform he has to attention but also use his platform he has to present alternative facts and try he has to present alternative facts and try to he has to present alternative facts and try to make it fuzzy. The interesting thing though you are working interesting thing though you are working in a court. So everything is not simply working in a court. So everything is not simply a working in a court. So everything is not simply a campaign where it will io not simply a campaign where it will go away not simply a campaign where it will go away after the campaign is over, but this go away after the campaign is over, but this actually has real legal implications and thats Playing With Fire here implications and thats Playing With Fire here. So implications and thats Playing With Fire here. ,. , ~ implications and thats Playing With Fire here. ,. , ~. , fire here. So you think the former president. Fire here. So you think the former president , amanda, fire here. So you think the former president , amanda, could fire here. So you think the former president , amanda, could get fire here. So you think the former president , amanda, could get in. President , amanda, could get in trouble for what he releases . Ihla trouble for what he releases . No doubt that jack smith, everyone will be watching and reading, notjust for entertainment but truly for the leal for entertainment but truly for the legal implications of what theyre reading legal implications of what theyre readinu. ,. , legal implications of what theyre readinu. G. ,. ~ ,. , reading. Jack, this is the fourth indictment reading. Jack, this is the fourth indictment of reading. Jack, this is the fourth indictment of the reading. Jack, this is the fourth indictment of the former reading. Jack, this is the fourth indictment of the former president and interest in the us has waned a bit since the first indictment in the state of new york earlier this year. How and interested are people here in the uk in these indictments and possibly upcoming trials . We are still starinu and possibly upcoming trials . We are still staring eyes and possibly upcoming trials . We are still staring eyes agog and possibly upcoming trials . We are still staring eyes agog with and possibly upcoming trials . We are still staring eyes agog with our still staring eyes agog with our jaws on the floor, what is happening with the guy who used to run the United States and might very well do it again next year, seemingly more damning than the last, and yet you know, it doesnt seem to be doing him any harm in his prospects of getting elected as the republican candidate in fact quite the opposite. Which is an extraordinary by most countries standards. These indictments looked very serious to me. Some look more likely to stick than others, its speculative at this stage, we havent heard donald trump s own dossier yet, he has every right to defend himself. Its hard to see how you plot a path to the white house through many Different Court cases. This side of the atlantic, what do i know . Ive been wrong about donald trump many a time before. He been wrong about donald trump many a time before. ,. , been wrong about donald trump many a time before. ,. ,. , time before. He is certainly a fiuhter, time before. He is certainly a fighter, meda time before. He is certainly a fighter, meda coming time before. He is certainly a fighter, meda coming back. Time before. He is certainly a| fighter, meda coming back to time before. He is certainly a fighter, meda coming back to you. As jack is been saying, the former president has managed to galvanise his supporters and even a broader Republican Base through these indictments. How worried are democrats about that . I indictments. How worried are democrats about that . I think democrats democrats about that . I think democrats have democrats about that . I think democrats have been democrats about that . I think democrats have been very democrats about that . I think i democrats have been very clear democrats about that . I think democrats have been very clear id about democrats have been very clear id about potentially running against trump about potentially running against trump. You havent seen republican rate leaders trump. You havent seen republican rate leaders to be able to rein in what rate leaders to be able to rein in what has rate leaders to be able to rein in what has been happening despite the different what has been happening despite the different indictments that are happening. Many of them want to actually happening. Many of them want to actually keep the base, keep his base, actually keep the base, keep his base, and actually keep the base, keep his base, and hope that somehow hell slide away base, and hope that somehow hell slide away and they will be the candidate of choice. That strategy has let candidate of choice. That strategy has let trump continue to build momentum, continue to build his base momentum, continue to build his base and momentum, continue to build his base. And thats a problem, and so we, democrats are incredibly worried, we, democrats are incredibly worried, have been from the very begihhihg. Worried, have been from the very beginning, quite clear id about the importance of not only upholding the law but importance of not only upholding the law but the reality that it very well law but the reality that it very well might be that the trump is the other well might be that the trump is the other person in the general contest. And amanda if we look ahead to the general election, can the former President Donald Trump win against the current President Joe Biden . Trio. The current President Joe Biden . No, that is where the current President Joe Biden . No, that is where it is different. Youre beginning to see, now in the primary youre beginning to see, now in the primary it youre beginning to see, now in the primary it is youre beginning to see, now in the primary it is very very different, so anyone primary it is very very different, so anyone in on to United States politics. So anyone in on to United States politics, primaries are incredibly different politics, primaries are incredibly different than the general. What you are seeing different than the general. What you are seeing of independence who targeiy are seeing of independence who largely make up the difference of those largely make up the difference of those general elections is independents. Its not making any difference independents. Its not making any difference to Republican Voters but its starting to show up in independent voters that are the swing independent voters that are the swing voters that make their difference in that general election. Jack difference in that general election. Jack one difference in that general election. Jack one more question for you. Our mps here in london is the government prepared for another donald Trump Presidency . Haifa prepared for another donald Trump Presidency . Presidency . How could anybody be reared presidency . How could anybody be prepared for presidency . How could anybody be prepared for the presidency . How could anybody be prepared for the possibility presidency . How could anybody be prepared for the possibility of prepared for the possibility of another donald Trump Presidency . No one knows what hes going to do if he wins power. The last thing that they want is that level of uncertainty from who would be, our most senior and most important ally on the planet. We want to know exactly where the us kit is, we want the us to be predictable and sensible, donald trump is none of those things they are not one of his many qualities. He would not be anybody s choice of candidate. Britain has to work with what its got, weve got a Strategic Alliance with america, come hell or high water, so theylljust have to deal with it, wont they . With it, wont they . There is a debate among with it, wont they . There is a debate among republican with it, wont they . There is a debate among republican candidates were supposed to hear by the end of this week. Now for anyone who has travelled to a foreign country, where you dont speak the language you will know that sometimes ordering a meal can be a leap of faith. Maybe you go for a recommendation or let a localfriend orderfor you. Well, the us Treasury Secretary janet yellen has confirmed that she had an interesting cullinary experience while Visiting Beijing last month for key trade talks injuly. Speaking to cnn she confirmed that during her trip she accidentally ate Magic Mushrooms at Dinner A Type of hallucinogenic mushroom. Take a listen. So i went with this large group of people and the person who had arranged our dinner did the ordering. There was a delicious Mushroom Dish, i was not aware that these mushrooms had hallucinogenic properties. I learned that later. Ican tell you. Later when you were sleeping and having visions, or . I was, i read that if the mushrooms were cooked properly which im sure they were at this very good restaurant that they have no impact, but all of us enjoyed the mushrooms at the restaurant and none of us felt any ill effects. The best of the Sunshine Today was across southern counties of Northern Ireland, england and wales. Blue sky, Sunflower Fields In Norfolk and a lot more sunshine, pleasantly warm in all of that with just a light breeze in pembrokeshire in wales. Now it will turn warmer across the board as we head through the rest of the week, some more sunny spells. It will start to feel more humid, particularly by night, but it wont be completely dry. It will turn wet and windy through the day on friday. More on that in just a moment. But overnight tonight then, its relatively mild out there. Some long, clear spells will see some areas of mist and low clouds developing, particularly for central and eastern areas of england. Where we see that mist and low cloud, it will lift and clear readily through the morning, burnt back by wall of the sunshine. And were drawing in more of a south easterly wind through the day on thursday. Thats going to drag in this warmer, Muggy Feeling Air from the near continent. So temperatures will rise across the board up to the low to the mid 20s in celsius. We may even see the days highest temperatures out towards Western Areas of wales.
