Afghan somehow find themselves in the narrative around small boats and the narrative around small boats and the illegal migration bill. They are a separate category, just like syrians before them. We need to make sure that we tackle the backlog. To johnny mercers credit, he has prioritised getting afghans out of hotels. As the deadline has moved to move afghans out of hotels, those that missed that deadline risky and homeless. That is the reality we face. On housing we have 8,000 afghans who need to be moved out. Whereto, we dont know. They were resettled in places like london and the south east and they have made, after a traumatic evacuation from kabul, Have Made Routes there, children are going to school and all of that has been disrupted. To some extent there has been a lack of wraparound services. When you think of the need for trauma counselling, for the need for women who come we dont speak english might not have graduate degrees to help look for employment. There are major issues in hotels, but to givejohnny mercer credit he is prioritising that. We have a huge backlog of resettlement places and it has been made complicated by the illegal migration bill. I dont know if you thought the letter thatjohn jarvis bill. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. We appreciate it. Today, its 25 years since the worst single atrocity during three decades of violence in Northern Ireland. 29 people, including a woman pregnant with twins, were murdered in a bomb attack in omagh in county tyrone. Our ireland correspondent chris page has been speaking to two survivors with a remarkable bond who decided to mark the anniversary with a charity skydive, Rachel Galbraith and kate walls. Well, weve known each other about 32 years, and actually we became friends through my cousin. It was just one night. Your birthday . Yeah, we bonded. We bonded. We were going to do travelling and, you know, all that. And then, unfortunately, then the bomb happened. The Omagh Bombing happened on a saturday afternoon. It was carried out by a Paramilitary Group called the real ira. The bomb was left in a car on the main street. I had been working that day and then kate was coming injust to meet me. And then she was going to go on and i told her to wait. Back then, there was always bomb scares. Thats all you heard that day was people going, oh, god, another bomb scare. And it was wanting to get back to what they were doing. The last thing i remember saying to rachel was, im not standing here. Im going to go home. And that was the last thing i remember saying to you. Whenever i came around, she wasnt standing beside me any more. Shed been blown right across the road. Kate and rachel were among more than 200 people who were injured. We were both in different hospitals. That was a saturday. And i rememberall i kept thinking was rachel, wheres rachel . We didnt know where rachel was. So it was about maybe four or five days later that a nurse came over to the bed, brought me a phone, and it was the first time then about four or five days after the bomb that i heard rachels voice. And as soon as i picked up the phone and i heard hervoice, ijust burst into tears. Yeah. Kate then, as i say, whenever she spoke to me, it was the same. I was just tears, do you know what i mean . You know, because we were just so relieved that we were both ok. So what have the last 25 years now been like for you both and how have you been able to support each other . I think the fact of it being that The Two Of Us was in it together, you know, we understood each other, you know, between having our bad days or good days. For me, it meant as much as i wouldnt. I wished you werent there, but i wasnt on my own. I knew that i had rachel. This week, omagh is commemorating people lost and lives changed. Earlier this year, kate and rachel decided to raise money for a Trauma Support Group called wave. 25 years ago, we were both in our 20s, and as rachel would say, we were two young women who were supposed to be enjoying life. So of course we made plans and one of them was motorbike lessons. Coming up then we were talking for the 25th anniversary, we did mention, what about the other thing we were talking about . And that was the skydiving and you did agree. So when you were up there and about to take that jump, what was it like . What was in your head . I did look out the window and you do remember why youre here today. This nearly didnt happen because it could have gone either way. And the fact that we were doing it together after what wed gone through. And then when the door opened and youre just looking and then youre just gone and i loved it. I was like, free. The sense of freedom. The skyjump for us doing it together, it was a statement for The Two Of Us. You know, The Two Of Us are still strong. You know, we can do this because over the years ive had a lot of surgeries myself, a few more now to go through. And its a fact of whenever you go in for surgery, you just think to yourself, why, what was this all for . You do feel so angry, you wished it had never had happened . But were here and its made us all the stronger. And some people just werent so lucky unfortunately. I lost my leg and i had a few more amputations after that. You automatically think, well, this is why, its because of that day. Today, you know, im. I know whats going to sound weird. I wish i wasnt there that day, but im proud of my scars. Im proud of, yes, that i have a limb because you know what, thats me, thats my story, that is my history. Time doesnt take away the grief, pain and heartbreak, but theres a sense of a slow shift over the last 25 years that people want this town to be known for humanity amidst the horror, for courage after the tragedy. Chris page, bbc news. Now its time for a look at the weather with ben rich. Hello there. What a difference a day makes. Yesterday, many places had a real deluge. Today, much drier, much brighter. Over the next few days it will turn warmer, as well, with increasing levels of humidity, but its not completely plain sailing. Still some showers around through the afternoon, particularly affecting parts of Northern England and scotland, there could well be the Odd Heavy One here, but a lot of dry weather, some spells of sunshine and temperatures of 21 degrees in glasgow, 20 in belfast, but 25, maybe 26 in parts of eastern england. Through the evening, most of the showers will fade, but we will keep more cloud across the north and the east of scotland and parts of North East England as we go through the night. A few spots of rain with that. Elsewhere, some clear spells. It will be a relatively cool night for some parts of east wales, the West Midlands and down into the west country. Across southern england, wales, parts of Northern England, Southern Scotland and Northern Ireland there could be some patchy fog tomorrow morning and, at this time of year, that fog can tend to linger for a couple of hours through the morning rush hour. It should then tend to lift and clear. For most, theres going to be a lot of dry weather, spells of sunshine and just the small chance of catching a shower. More cloud generally clinging on across some northern and eastern parts of scotland, with some showers here. The highest temperatures down towards the south east corner, up to around 26 celsius. As we move out of wednesday into thursday, this area of High Pressure tends to shift north eastwards and the winds begin to come in our direction from the near continent, which will bring some warmer air across more parts of the uk. So a warmer feeling day on thursday, quite humid, as well. Some fog patches to start off, particularly across parts of Northern England and scotland. One or two showers, but a lot of dry weather, some spells of sunshine and temperatures for many spots getting into the low to mid 20s. We could see 25, maybe 26 degrees around some or western parts. That warmth will try to hold on into friday. Theres Uncertainty Aboutjust how warm friday might be because we see frontal systems approaching from the atlantic and, depending on just how quickly the cloud and the rain arrives, well, temperatures may be somewhat suppressed. We will see outbreaks of rain pushing in from the south west, some heavy thundery bursts, and temperatures generally in the low to mid 20s. Live from london. This is bbc news.
