Pain it also causes. The background to this is high inflation, we have a sequencing that Around The World, particularly sticky, or at least has been here in the uk. That is why the bank has been increasing Interest Rates to try and curb the spending and get that Inflation Rate down. Should they continue to do that today, on the one hand, we have an Inflation Rate in the uk that has been easing a little, and when you dig into some of the details, to look at Producer Price inflation, thatis look at Producer Price inflation, that is further down the supply chain, that is the price is that manufacturers and factories might be paying, suggestions are it could be coming down quite significantly now. On the other hand, headline inflation, 7. 9 , still four times the Bank Of Englands 2 target. When you strip out energy and food, which can be equally volatile core inflation, they are still not falling by enough, wage growth remains quite high as well, and then there are wage comparisons, and in there are wage comparisons, and in the euro and in the us, lower than in the uk set lower there than in the uk. They are still considering with the interest heights. You asked about the impact on Mortgage Holders, you have a standard variable rates, they are very used to this now, after 30 Interest Rate hikes Interest Rate hikes, their monthly cost will go up straightaway, but the key now is that 800,000 people who have got a fixed rate deal, many of those young families, who flopped onto the housing ladder, maybe a couple of years ago, and with pretty low Interest Rates, those fixed deals coming in in the second half of the year, they are likely to face a big jump year, they are likely to face a big jump in their costs. Of course, it is notjust Mortgage Holders come in as renters who perhaps have got landlords who got their own mortgages whose costs have gone up. Perhaps the rent has gone up. Loans for businesses, many of whom took out loans during the pandemic and are still in recovery mode, and of course, the reality of this is that the reality is to try and stop spending. What happens if you run a business that relies on Consumer Spending . Next, the Environmental Group greenpeace says protesters have climbed on to the roof of Prime Minister rishi sunak s yorkshire home. Activists blanketed the building in black fabric. The protest was aimed at mr sunak s announcement earlier this week, backing more licences for oil and gas drilling in the north sea. The Prime Ministers office says police are at the scene. I want to note, the bbc normally does not use hand out photographs from campaign groups, like these. It has made the exceptional decision to do so in this case to help audiences understand the serious security concerns raised. Heres Political Correspondent jonathan blake. The first we saw of this was a post from greenpeace on social media this morning which showed that picture of activists having scaled the roof of rishi sunak s constituency home in North Yorkshire and Unfurling Giant Black Fabric and they have done this, they say, in protest at the governments recent announcement for new Oil And Gas Drilling Licences in the north sea, describing that as a new drilling frenzy. And in a statement put out by greenpeace to accompany this protest, they say its objecting to him backing a major expansion of north sea oil and gas drilling amidst a summer of escalating climate impacts. The banner reads, Rishi Sunak Oil profits or our future . And they go on to say that, we desperately need the Prime Minister to be a climate leader, not a climate arsonist, describing the new oil and gas licences as cynical beyond belief. There has been a response from a source in number ten who has told us that the police are on their way. That was about half an hour or so ago so they may actually be there by now. And theyve engaged on the issue that greenpeace are protesting about, as well, saying that we make no apology for taking the right approach to ensure our energy security, using the resources we have here at home, so we are never reliant on aggressors like putin for our energy. Were also investing, they say, in renewables and our Approach Supports Thousands of british jobs. And just one more update to bring you from North Yorkshire police who say they are responding to an ongoing Protest Incident at an address in kirby sigston. Jonathan blake reporting there. We leave the uk. And head to the us next, and security has been tightened in washington ahead of former president Donald Trumps appearance in court later. Hes been charged with plotting to overturn his defeat in the president ial election of 2020. Third time round and its another indictment and another Court Appearance for the former president , donald trump. This time hes heading to the scene of the alleged crime, washington, dc. But this criminal indictment is staggering. A former president stands accused of trying to overturn democracy, trying to overturn the results of the 2020 president ial election. The investigation is focused in detail on what donald trump did from the moment he refused to concede the election in November 2020 to the Capitol Riots that unfolded two months later here in dc. We saw his supporters Storm Congress as lawmakers certified democratic president joe bidens victory. Donald trump denies any wrongdoing. He calls this indictment ridiculous and has repeated his claims that this is all part of a political witch hunt. In his previous arraignments, donald trump has appeared in court in new york and in miami. This time, he has the option to appear virtually in the courthouse behind me. The judge overseeing the trial, judge tanya kotkin, was appointed by former president barack obama. She is known for handing out some of the most severe sentences for rioters charged overjanuary 6th. The republican front runner now faces an extraordinary mix of criminal and civil trials over the next year. Donald trump has said if he is convicted orjailed, it wont stop him from running for the presidency. Our washington correspondent, nomia iqbal reporting. And a reminder, we will have full live coverage of Donald Trumps Court Appearance from 7 oclock this evening here on bbc news. Now a question how are you watching me right now . Is it through a television or are you watching on a Mobile Device . The media watchdog, ofcom, says there has been a record decline in the number of people watching traditional broadcast television. Last year, 79 of people tuned into live tv each week, thats down four Percentage Points from 2021. Lets talk to our culture reporter guy lambert. Just talk us through the findings. There are lots of statistics and data in this report, but the general overview is that there is, on average, a decline in consumption of broadcast tv. Amongst the public, that is. Like you say, it is 83 , down to 79. It is only four points, but it might not seem that significant, but in that number, there are more significant full. The most interesting figures amongst us are at both ends of age spectrum. It is properly not surprising to see that teenagers, and young adults are consuming last broadcast tv, and are moving over to streaming services, but since 2014, that drop has been at 73 , quite significant. At the other end of the over 65. A more traditional demographic, more faithful to Public Service broadcasters, but year on year, we have seen a 10 in their watching of tv. Streaming services seem to be the answer of why people are moving away from broadcast tv, 59 of households are now subscribed to netflix and disney plus, they have also seen a big increase in the last year, to their subscribers. Queen fans are in for a treat this week, as theyll have the chance to see the singers private record collection, his artwork and flamboyant stage costumes. The exhibition is opening in london ahead of an auction of freddies personal possessions. They have until now been looked after by one of his closest friends. David sillito has been taking a look. This, the Famous Graffitied Green Door that led to freddies garden, freddies record collection, freddies kitchen. Freddies costumes. Theres even freddies moustache comb. And on and on it goes. There are 30,000 objects. And, for a man who is very private, really, this is more thanjust a collection of stuff. It tells a story the life of freddie mercury. This is unprecedented. This is an unprecedented moment in our 280 years history. Youve got literally everything. We might not have the kitchen sink, but weve got his monogrammed doors from the shower. Its freddie mercury. It had to be big. It had to be special. Mama. And for fans of classics, like Bohemian Rhapsody, there are on display little clues to how he created his songs. What am i looking at here . Well, were looking at here, this is the earliest surviving draft for Bohemian Rhapsody. Yes, its the lyric sheet of Bohemian Rhapsody, which began with, it appears, another name. Theres the title. Yes, yes. But then, if you look underneath, there is a cancelled earlier title, where he had written mongolian rhapsody. So Bohemian Rhapsody was originally mongolian rhapsody. So it seems, yeah. And if you love the Bohemian Rhapsody video, that Snake Bracelet and the outfits are both up for sale. So this is what you see him wearing when hes sitting at the piano. And then when he gets up singing. Its a snug fit, isnt it . Yes. Freddie was very slim. Very slim. Real is this feeling. And then theres the freddie look of the 80s the moustache. He goes into vests, doesnt he . Yes. I remember it sort of happened overnight, didnt it . 1979 is the change. You get the shift from the catsuits. He says goodbye to the catsuits and in come the leathers, the vinyl and the little caps. But now the partys over. And im left cold sober. And what about those parties . We invited one regular visitor to garden lodge songwriter tim rice to have a final look at the freddie dining room. Im hearing you dined here a few times, then. Certainly went to a few parties. Did dine here once or twice. Do you know what you were doing the 14th ofjune, 1987 . No. Let me go on. Ive got something here for you. Freddie, you see, was very organised. And there is a book with a record of every dinner party. Oh, wow. Good heavens. So you were having cold tomato soup, lamb in puff pastry, new potatoes, carrots, salad. A rather nice white chateauneuf du pape. And a red volnay. Wow just four of us round that magnificent table. Wow. I mean, i rememberthe evening. He was very civilised. And, if you didnt know he was a mega rock star, you might not know that. I mean, he was the opposite, a lot of the time, from the image he had on stage. Did you go to the parties . I went to one or two of the parties, yes. Can you tell me about them . Well, they were quite fun. So there it is, a free exhibition of a lifetime of memories that will, in a few weeks, be sold off in six freddie sales. This is a once only moment. They are expecting quite a few visitors. David sillito, bbc news, sotheby s. British triathletes preparing for next months World Championships have been forced to abandon open water swim training because of continuing problems with sewage in the sea in fleetwood on the lancashire coast. Health warnings have been put in place on multiple beaches across the uk by the Environment Agency, who are using special state of the art equipment to detect bacteria. Paul murphy has this report from the coast in east yorkshire. A Red Warning Flag is raised in the rain on bridlington beach. Its to advise the public that if they enter these waters, theres a risk they could fall ill. Flagging the beach because the Water Quality has been pretty bad recently. Just to make sure no one goes in the water and swims. Could get quite ill. Do people Pay Attention to the red flag . Yes, quite a few people Pay Attention. A lot of people come up to us and ask us for the warning about the Water Quality. The rain does mean that very few people are on the beaches today, but for many here, the warning is a worry. I mean, in this day and age, you honestly think that the legislation and policing by the local authorities, etcetera, that this just wouldnt happen. All the schools are off. Parents are going away on holiday, bringing their children. They want to go down to the beach and go in the water. But they cant, can they . Yeah, its not acceptable. Sources of pollution include sewage overflows, run by our water companies. During heavy rain, they are legally allowed to release sewage to prevent it backing up into homes and businesses. In this area alone, five beaches are on a pollution risk warning. Bridlington north, bridlington, south, wilsthorpe, and cleethorpes. Its unusual to have so many alerts on this coastline, but heavy rainfall is raising the risk. Pollution risk forecasts are issued by the Environment Agency and theyre basically a warning that during heavy rainfall, theres a risk that a variety of bacteria from a number of sources, including human or animal sewage, could wash into our beaches. That warning can remain in place for several days and the advice is always not to swim. Paul murphy, bbc news, bridlington. The patient and surgeon who were part of a Ground Breaking brain operation, which made headlines Around The World in 2020, have been reunited to celebrate its success. Dagmar turner was able to play her violin during the proceedure to remove a tumour, which her surgeon said was an indicator that no damage was being done to the part of the brain responsible for her hand movement. Theyve been speaking to our reporter, wendy hurrell. It was a musicians need to play violin after removal of a brain tumour and a surgeons understanding of the Intrinsic Value of music that led to this moment in medical history. My oncologist was very, very good. He said to me, dagmar, we need a plan. Only that plan didnt involve my music. So in the end, i said to them, do you think i should play my violin during operation . And he looked at me and said, well, we need to discuss this with the professor, but what an interesting idea. I said, yes, we can try that. And the rest is pretty much history. Music was so important to dagmars Quality Of Life and everything that she was. She was kind of hesitant to have this conversation with somebody who was a great surgeon but didnt understand the musical side, whereas because of my musical background, dagmar felt that, 0k, we can at least have that conversation. Now theyre part of the newly refurbished Hunterian Museum at lincolns inn fields. Pretty cool, isnt it . It is pretty cool i mean, as a medical student, i mean, this is Hunterian Museum, Royal College of surgeons, probably the most coveted museum of anatomy and surgery in the world. As a medical student, you only dream of actually coming to london to see this. Now, kind of we are both, thanks to dagmar, part of this for generations to come. So this is really massive. It did sort of take off Around The World, that picture. Yeah, somebody asked me for a Violin Lesson from south africa and i said to someone, i said, look, what do you expect . Im a woman, im blonde, and theyjust take most of my brain out. They didnt put it back in and you expect an answer from me . And the guyjust looked at me, like, im so sorry. And as you can see, we havent knocked out her sense of humour centre in the brain at all it works perfectly well. Yeah, but im german. I never had any shes from germany and she arrived in the uk and the tumour was discovered. I was born in iran, travelled, lived in the uk and some other fate brought us together to deliver this one operation. And that is interesting, isnt it . Thats how we ended up in the Hunterian Museum. Yes, exactly. How we ended up in the museum, absolutely. Wendy hurrell, bbc news. What an incredible story. Now its time for a look at the weather with carol. Hello again. Over the next few days the weather does remain unsettled and its not until the middle of next week it looks like things will settle down a touch as High Pressure starts to build in. Today, what weve got are isobars showing the direction of the wind coming from the north or indeed north west. It is pulling in a fair bit of Cloud Across Northern Scotland with Patchy Rain On and off through the course of the day. This mornings rain across the southwest and Channel Islands continuing to pull away. In between, we will see further showers develop, they will be scattered. You could see some heavy ones across south east scotland, Northern England and also the west midlands. Top temperatures, up to 21 degrees. Through this evening and overnight, these showers will move from central parts of the country over towards the east, allowing clearer skies and fewer showers in the west. Still quite blustery, though. Overnight lows, 10 to about 13 or 14 celsius, a little bit cooler than last night. Tomorrow then, we have extensive cloud across eastern england, producing showers here and there, heavy and thundery in lincolnshire, east anglia, the south east, brighter skies with fewer showers in the north and west, the cloud will start to build in Northern Ireland ahead of the next system. Temperatures 13 to 20 celsius. The next system coming our way is another area of low pressure pushing across us overnight friday into saturday. The position and timing might change but this is what we think at the moment. Some heavy rain sweeping across us to all but the far north of scotland. Windy as well, the strongest winds, especially with exposure, in the west and through the english channel. It could prove to be more windy than it was yesterday with gusts of 61 mph or so. Temperatures 13 celsius to 17 degrees or 19 degrees. As we head into sunday, that low pressure pulls away allowing dry weather to come our way, some showers in the forecast, it will not be as windy and temperatures 14 degrees to 20 degrees. With a bit more sunshine and lighter winds, it will feel that bit more pleasant. The outlook beyond that, the beginning of the week unsettled, as we head into the middle of the week, temperatures start to rise, it looks like the weather will settle down, but for how long is the question.
