Attack on the russian capital. Two Office Blocks were damaged but there were no reports of any injuries. Meanwhile, ukraine says a Russian Missile attack on the North Eastern city of sumy, has killed at least one civilian and wounded five. Officials said the missile hit an education centre. Steve fish is a Politics Professor with the university of california in berkeley. Earlier, he outlined how he believes the russian president would approach any peace talks. Well, hes open to a ceasefire if he gets to keep the conquered territories. Thats one fifth of ukrainian territory is now under occupation by russia. And hes open to a ceasefire, at least temporarily, a temporary ceasefire if he gets to keep those territories. But of course, ukraine, the entire democratic world, is not ready to. Ready to accept that. And so, of course, this war is going to continue to go on, because putins made it absolutely clear that he has no intention of stopping the war unless he gets to keep conquered territories, if, in fact, the world acceded to that, which, of course its not going to do, then putin would just gear up to penetrate ukraine even more deeply and conquer more territories. Its perfectly clear now what putin intends to do. Lets ta ke lets take some live pictures now from St Petersburg, this is the annual military Navy Day Parade. Vladimir putin is expected to speak at the event, probably within the next 30 minutes or so. Last year there were more than 42 ships, more than 3500 personnel taking part, this is russia flexing its Military Muscles during the ongoing war in ukraine. That has been mostly contained within the Russian Ground forces, the landowner that has been eviscerated by the fighting in ukraine, that hasnt really touched the navy and air force so much so wet it is perfectly capable of mounting a display of naval force because it is not something that has been directly impacted by fighting in ukraine. Leaders from across west africa are due to meet for an Emergency Summit following the coup in niger. Soldiers announced the military takeover on wednesday, detaining the president mohamed bazoum. On friday, the head of the president ial guards unit, general abdourahmane tchiani, declared himself nigers new leader saying insecurity, economic woes and corruption prompted him to seize power. The us, the eu, and france nigers former colonial ruler say they wont recognise the coup leaders, with some suspending Security Cooperation and budgetary aid. There are concerns among many countries over which states nigers new leader will align with potentially moving closer to russia as happened after coups in neighbouring burkina faso and mali. Later, leaders from the 15 countries that make up ecowas, the Economic Community of west african states, and the eight leaders from the west African Economic and monetary union, will meet to discuss their response. James barnett, a seniorfellow with the conservative thinktank, the Hudson Institute believes the coup, came as a surprise but was not completely unexpected. It isnt. And it is. Insofar as i dont think that anyone other than maybe some people in the ama who are following some of the kind of internal political maneuvers very closely expected that there would be a coup this week. That said, i think that a lot of Western Policy Makers for a long time have kind of overestimated the kind of stability of niger and underappreciated the fact that this is a country that has experienced many coups throughout its history and also one in which there is still a very fragmented Security Sector in which there are many rival units, both traditional units, that have kind of been involved in some of these pushes in the past, as well as kind of new special forces units, some that have actually been trained by the us and france that are kind of creating a new political environment, a new Political Landscape within the military that has been very difficult for the president bazoum to control. I think some would argue that theres something of a domino effect, if you will, that when militaries see that a neighbouring country, that officers have managed to pull off a successful coup in that region, in that country, without any Serious International sanction or without themselves kind of losing power to a democratic to a domestic opposition, then they assume that the conditions are set in their own country to do the same. And i think that what weve seen in mali and burkina faso, both of which experienced two coups in the past few years, two coups each and then also in guinea as well, that theres definitely a sense that the west africa region, that theres not really any serious kind of costs to staging a coup in terms of the kind of regional diplomatic response or the international response. What weve seen, though, unfortunately, in mali and burkina faso especially, is that the military regimes that have come to power have been very ill equipped to handle the insecurity in their states, the prevailing insecurity primarily in the form ofjihadist insurgency. But i think, unfortunately for the putschists in niger, their primary concern is not necessarily about the kind of status of the jihadist insurgency there. Their primary concern has more to do with their own kind of political and financial power within niger, within the Security Sector in niger. Kenya says its ready to lead a multinationalforce in haiti where clashes between Security Forces and criminal gangs have Displaced Tens Of Thousands of people. Kenyas Foreign Minister says nairobi would deploy 1000 Police Officers to the caribbean nation. The mission is subject to a mandate from the Un Security Council and formal authorisation from the kenyan officials. Earlier this month, the un secretary general, antonio guterres, called for the creation of a Multinational Force for haiti. Meanwhile, a Christian Aid Group says an american nurse and her child have been kidnapped in the country. It happened on thursday near the haitian capital, Port Au Prince after the us advised all its citizens to leave the country because of the worsening security situation. Gangs control large parts of the capital and kidnappings for ransom are common. Harold isaac is a journalist based near Port Au Prince. He told us about the reaction to the potential deployment of a Multinational Security force to haiti. For many people here, it came as a bit of a surprise, especially after over nine months of waiting for word oran over nine months of waiting for word or an actual commitment with regards to Foreign Police or Military Personnel here in haiti. In the last week or so there seems to have been a lot of including the evacuation of us authorities and also now there is information about troops eventually, Police Officers eventually coming to haiti so everybody is taking this for the most part with a bit of a grain of salt, of cautious mass, with regards to what it entails in the short term. Effectively, the question of Foreign Military or Police Intervention in haiti has been a polarising one over the years. Especially after the minister, the Un Peacekeeping mission from 2004 2017 which did not believe haiti necessarily with good memories, especially the Cholera Epidemic and sex abuse scandal so it is early to know how the population will react to this news. And what will be the terms of the said intervention. Protests have been taking place across israel for the 30th week in a row, against the governments planned judicial overhaul. It has been the first saturday of mass demonstrations since the first bill in the overhaul was passed by the Israeli Parliament earlier this week. The new law limits the supreme courts ability to nullify legislation it deems unreasonable. On friday, Israeli Media reported Military Intelligence officials had warned prime minister, benjamin netanyahu, that israels enemies viewed the Current Crisis as an historic weak point that could be exploited. Benjamin netanyahu is currently chairing a meeting of his cabinet to discuss the ongoing demonstrations and we will bring you more of that when it happens. Its day 11 of the womens world cup, with co hosts new zealand, back in action in the second round of group games. Debutants morocco scored their first goal at the world cup and with that their first win in the competition, beating south korea 1 0. Norway play the philippines in auckland whilst new zealand are looking to book their place in the last 16. But theyll have to beat group a leaders, switzerland. Then its germany against colombia who both started this tournament with wins. 0ur correspondent Shaimaa Khalil is in auckland for us. Very good to see you come are you and what is happening . I am in the middle of a l your team. I am in the middle of a crowd, a fanzine in auckland, new zealand ground on edge and as it stands it is goalless with new zealand and switzerland and if it stays at a drawer it means new zealand are through to the final 16, i am sorry, switzerland on three and new zealand are out and the reason for that is no way was playing at the same time was playing the philippines, currently 4 0 so they are as good as having a victory. Every time new zealand goes on the attack, every time new zealand defenders kick away a ball from the swiss, the crowd roars in cheers but you can sense the nervousness because so much is riding on the next 40 minutes or so. New zealand need one goal to go through to the next round but so far, it has evaded them. Switzerland are any much more comfortable position, if it is a draw, this must go through, if it is not an new zealand wing, then new zealand go through, the hosts have never been through the next status, they have always left the world cup, they have always left the world cup, the womens world cup at the group stages. They were hoping last time would be an exception, they were hoping as the hosts with that very strong start against norway that they would change. Its looking very difficult or at least very nerve racking for new zealand fans at the moment. They really are willing their team to win, its very interesting. Cheering. There is an attack from switzerland the commentators said something really interesting, they were saying switzerland are playing against 11 players but also against thousands and thousands and thousands of people off the pitch and it would be heartbreak if the hosts leave the world cup at the group stages. They are hoping that they will turn their fortunes around switzerland is pressing really hard at the moment. The mood there is palpable, the tension, we can hear behind you but let me talk to you about a story coming from the Moroccan Team and one of its defenders, benzene, Who Made History By Being One of the first women to wear a hijab while playing. She was a crucial element in the defence of morocco today, she celebrated with her team mates but it was interesting because two teams have turned their performances around, morocco making history with the first woman to wear a hijab, the debutants on Theirfirst The First woman to wear a hijab, the debutants on their first world cup win but now they have a elastic new zealand are winning now against the philippines 4 0. It is turning out to be an extremely interesting womens world cup, fortunes are changing and the eyes of everyone geared to the screen here to see what you see in new zealand will do. You say everyone is part of the screen and let me talk about how popular this is, womens football does not get the same level of support in popularity as does the mens game so tell us about how this has been going down with crowds and how people have been getting engaged and what it is doing for the womens game . And what it is doing for the womens came . , and what it is doing for the womens. You know, i think the best way to start that answer is to show game . You know, i think the best way to start that answer is to show you to start that answer is to show you what the crowd looks like, look at this crowd, how engaged they are, they have been gathering here since they have been gathering here since the beginning of the evening to try and get a good place in front of the screen and they are so engaged. Remember, this is the first time the womens world cup has been held in the Southern Hemisphere and it was the Southern Hemisphere and it was the first time it has dual hosts, australia and new zealand and what is interesting is those countries are big rugby countries, australia is also big on cricket and for the crowds to be engaged in womens football the way it has is quite remarkable. I think this is what makes the conversation about investment and infrastructure, about investing in leagues and notjust world cups, that will be ever more crucial. These women are changing the game for millions of young people notjust in their country but across the world than they are saying what they are doing on the pitch is not yet reflected off it in compensation and pay. There is still a lot needs to be done but you can see the momentum and engagement is really interesting. I was speaking to an english man who was following the lionesses and she says when i watch them, i like football and i feel there is a chance for me to reach that level so i think this is what it means for so many people watching the game. We can go straight to St Petersburg, President Putin is speaking at the annual Navy Day Parade. Translation globally to the russian navy. Cheering. Patriotic music plays. Studio pictures from St Petersburg, the annual russian Navy Day Parade taking place. President putin has just been speaking, we have missed the end of his speech but we did say a mac he did say during the speech the russian navy will get 30 new ships this year, according to the reuters news agency. These military events are significant for russia, especially because of the ongoing conflict in ukraine. This is as i say, the Navy Day Parade and it happens every year in St Petersburg which sits on the Gulf Of Finland leading out into the baltic sea. Flits there from the baltic sea fleet, the black sea fleet, the northern and pacific fleece as well. A big demonstration of Russian Naval military might. Last year, more than 40 ships were involved, 42 aircraft, and 3500 personnel and thus comes just after President Putin has been meeting African Leaders in St Petersburg. During which the conflict in ukraine came up in conversation especially when it came to a ukrainian grain exports. We are going to stay on these pictures for the time being, coming into us from the time being, coming into us from the afp news agency. This is the russian annual milk military naval depot, flexing its Military Muscle in St Petersburg, out into the Gulf Of Finland. President putin said the russian navy will get 30 new ships this year, significant because much of the Russian Military budget is classified so once the economy in russia has been somewhat floundering over the last few years, Military Spending has increased year on year since the mid 90s but it is heavily classified information so even people with an russia do not know how much the government is spending on its army, air force and its neighbour. We will hear Vladimir Putin speakfully neighbour. We will hear Vladimir Putin speak fully in about ten minutes time, he has given a short precursor to his speech, celebrating the work of the navy especially during the ongoing conflict in ukraine. These pictures coming to us life now from St Petersburg as you see. These ships going down the river which leads out into the Gulf Of Finland, out into the baltic sea. Highly tense time in russia because of the ongoing conflict in ukraine. We will bring you much more on what Vladimir Putin has to say when he speaks in the next ten minutes or so. Hello. Its been a promising start today across many parts of the country with sunshine. Some showers around but looking out into the atlantic, this Weather System is pushing in the cloud and that will bring some rain to some parts of the country. I ran the first area of low pressure we have had a Shower Swelling across scotland and Northern England, the worst of those moving away so if showers and still some sunshine into the afternoon but wetter weather arriving in the South West Of England and wales, pushing into Northern Ireland, towards the midlands and across to the south east of england. It could be quite windy for the time of year across england and wales, lighter winds for scotland and Northern Ireland and in the sunshine in scotland it should not feel too bad. Highest temperatures in Eastern England ahead of the rain but it looks like the rain will head towards the awful. The Morning Session sees the best of the weather, if you do not get the rain this afternoon it will certainly arrive after teatime, the steady rain pushing its way across more of england and wales and Northern Ireland, Late Afternoon, into the evening. The wet weather continuing to journey north into parts of scotland. Further south, the rain easing in the night but we keep a lot of cloud so it will be a warm start to monday. Northern parts of scotland are chilly with clear skies but the promise of early sunshine to start the new week. The weather will be driven by the area of low pressure focusing most of the rain, we still have that Weather Front sitting through the English Channel so cloud and rain here moving on to the south coast at times, threatening the south east of england. The rain affects more of scotland through the day, wetter across Northern Ireland and Northern England and wales but further south, maybe a sign of something drier and eventually brighter with sunshine. But as you see, not particularly warm for this time of year. Low pressure continues to dry and across the uk. It is pushed in on the supper winds, thejet the uk. It is pushed in on the supper winds, the jet stream and with the jet to the south of the uk, we are in cooler air, an area of low pressure moves away and another one comes in as we arrive into wednesday, bringing wet weather across england and wales. The start of august is not really going to get any warmer because as the rain cleared later in the week, we end up with a northerly breeze. This is bbc news. The headlines russias President Putin says he doesnt reject the idea of peace talks on ukraine. He said an african or chinese Peace Initiative could serve as a basis for any talks. But he also said it was hard to implement a ceasefire with ukraine on the offensive. Leaders from across west africa are due to meet for an Emergency Summit, following the coup in niger. We remember the great defending battles of leningrad. The courage of the Naval Infantry and the seamen who defended moscow in the polar region. The history of our navy is in essence, its main purpose is the defence of the motherland. This year has been marked by many Memorable Events for our navy. The baltic fleet marked its 320th anniversary. The northern fleet, 219th. And the black sea fleet, 219th. And the black sea fleet, 240th. Each of them has its own glorious history, together with the Pacific Fleet and the caspian flotilla, they are staunch shield in the defence of our fatherland, defending the of russia in the world ocean, keeping faith the interests of russia. In the traditions of an ability for the motherland. And the glory of the naval brotherhood. The days and the battles and the routine working days, you know strength is in cohesion. Their risk and the long days away from their family make them understand the value of their home. You are passing the glorious traditions of faith and loyalty in the motherland. Patriotism is at the core of the particular naval culture, which helped them fulfil all the tasks helps them. And evokes a pride amongst our people in the strong fleet. This pride proves that the people of russia can hold their power on the seas today, the russian fleet is solving the tasks of the National Policy and increasing its strength. This year alone, 30 new battleships are joining the navy. Like the vessel named after a glorious seamen. It is great that we have this tradition to give the names of our glorious seamen to our ships. It is a sign of a strong naval tradition, our courage and the staunch spirit of naval seamen, courage and the staunch spirit of navalseamen, in courage and the staunch spirit of naval seamen, in the name of russia. Our seamen are naval seamen, in the name of russia. 0ur seamen are proving naval seamen, in the name of russia. Our seamen are proving their heroic, fulfilling their heroic tasks. And i thank the personnel of the russian navy for their faultless performance, for their perseverance and resilience and for their loyalty to the motherland. Glory to the russian navy. Hurrah President Putin speaking in St Petersburg at russias annual Navy Day Parade. The big announcement, that there will be 30 new battleships added to the Russian Naval fleet. Battleships added to the Russian Navalfleet. This is an battleships added to the Russian Naval fleet. This is an annual event that gathers in St Petersburg that leads into the Gulf Of Finland, last year, there were more than 40 ships, more than 3,500 personnel, this comes during russias row with ukraine, so significant to see President Putin speaking there and announcing this new commitment of 30 new battleships. More on the story when we have it. Here in the uk, the prime minister, rishi sunak says he is on the side of car drivers and says he wants Anti Motorist measures to be reviewed. Mr sunak told the Sunday Telegraph that he has ordered a review into low traffic Neighbourhood Schemes which seek to reduce car use in streets in some residential areas. It comes after the conservatives won a recent byelection in uxbridge in west london with the victory widely credited his partys opposition to london mayor sadiq khans plans to extend the capitals ultra low Emission Zone to apply to more road users in the capital. But he said the government would not delay a planned ban on the sale of petrol and diesel cars after 2030. With more on this is our political correspondent, tony bonsignore. What do we make of this . I think a lot of this is about politics. The government has talked a lot about low traffic neighbourhoods before, it has ordered a review into them before and it used to previously fund them to the tunes of many millions of pounds. I think we are still seeing the fallout from the uxbridge and South Rice Lake by election, where many people feel, labour and conservative feel the planned expansion of the ultra low Emission Zone in england, london, policy by london mayor sadiq khan, Thatis Policy By london mayor sadiq khan, that is what lost it for labour and what won it for the conservatives. And they are looking ahead to the next election. So i think the calculation that rishi sunak has made here is the sorts of issues could be Fertile Ground for him to be pro motorist. Not necessarily to be pro motorist. Not necessarily to be anti net zero, to be anti Climate Change policies, but to position himself on the side of motorists and people who think they are being unfairly discriminated against. So i think that is the headline here in the telegraph this morning. Of course, you have seen the headlines on the bbc website. I think this is about political calculations. Because remember, a General Election now is almost certainly going to be taking place next year. You now is almost certainly going to be taking place next year. Now is almost certainly going to be taking place next year. You say that Rishi Sunak Taking Place next year. You say that rishi sunak is taking place next year. You say that rishi sunak is trying taking place next year. You say that rishi sunak is trying to taking place next year. You say that rishi sunak is trying to get taking place next year. You say that rishi sunak is trying to get on i taking place next year. You say that rishi sunak is trying to get on the i rishi sunak is trying to get on the side motorist, but is there a risk that in doing so, he will alienate people who think things like the ulez and low transition Neighbourhood Committees are a good idea . ,. ,. , Neighbourhood Committees are a good idea . ,. ,. ,. , idea . Very much so, it is a danger and it is a idea . Very much so, it is a danger and it is a delicate idea . Very much so, it is a danger and it is a delicate line idea . Very much so, it is a danger and it is a delicate line hes and it is a delicate line hes trying to walk at the moment. On the one hand, thats part of his party that think the way to victory, a path to victory at the next election is to row back on some of the net zero stuff and perhaps not be so ambitious. For example, to push back the 2030 deadline for the sale of petrol and diesel cars, when they are due to be banned. To push back on that, especially in a cost of living crisis. A lot of voters, certain people in the Conservative Party think, will warm to that and it is the best chance of victory. Former environment minister lord goldsmith and Chris Skidmore who did a review for the coming into this, they think that will let down future generations and it would also be a huge missed opportunity. That actually, the growth of the future will come from investment in renewables and net zero policies. So this is a delicate one for the conservatives. If they go too far either way, they could end up alienating an awful lot of people. It is also an argument going on within the labour party. Perhaps not to the same extent given they have not been in powerfor the to the same extent given they have not been in power for the last 13 years. But again, it is that fallout from the oxbridge by election and it is trying to look at that one boat and trying to define out of it what the broader lessons and issues are, looking ahead to that next General Election. We looking ahead to that next General Election. ~ ~ looking ahead to that next General Election. ~ ,. , election. We will park that therefore election. We will park that therefore no. Election. The issue of heat has been at the forefront of many minds recently. Parts of europe are sweltering through heatwaves. Temperatures above 50 degrees have been recorded in the us, and just last week, the un warned that we were in an era not of global warming, but of global warming. But what does the changing climate mean for our bodies and our health . Its question that was posed by the team at radio 4. James gallagher spent the day in a heat lab to see what the Summer Heatwaves do to the body. You can catch that on bbc sounds and the bbc website. We can speak to damien bailey, hes a professor of physiology at the university of south wales. What does heat due to our bodies . Well, it does many things, but too much heat is clearly bad for the body. Due to our bodies. This was the mini experiment we ran with James Gallagher and demonstrated the impact Passive Heating has on the body and how hard james has to work, in particular his brain has to work to cope with that increase in heat. And what kind of long term damage does it do . People have a hot night and they struggled to sleep and they think about the Short Term Impact of a restless evening, but what are the long term detrimental effects on the body of extremes of increased exposure to heat . We body of extremes of increased exposure to heat . We acclimatise to an increase exposure to heat . We acclimatise to an increase in exposure to heat . We acclimatise to an increase in Heat Exposure to heat . We acclimatise to an increase in heat and exposure to heat . We acclimatise to an increase in heat and athletes exposure to heat . We acclimatise to an increase in heat and athletes use| an increase in heat and athletes use Heat Activation to improve their performance. But these are very fit individuals and they are focused on sports performance. At the other end of the spectrum, we have many vulnerable populations with Heart Failure and lung failure, alzheimers, dementia. Their ability or inability to cope with heat can cause death at the more severe end of the spectrum. So over the long term, being too hot is not good for you. Long term, being too hot is not good foryou. But long term, being too hot is not good for you. But there are different ways in which you can mitigate and reduce those risks. Tell ways in which you can mitigate and reduce those risks. Reduce those risks. Tell us more about that reduce those risks. Tell us more about that. Lots reduce those risks. Tell us more about that. Lots of reduce those risks. Tell us more about that. Lots of people reduce those risks. Tell us more about that. Lots of people will. About that. Lots of people will think they will go into a nice air conditioned building, but that is maybe not sustainable and may be not good for the environment. M0. Not good for the environment. No, absolutely not good for the environment. No, absolutely. There not good for the environment. My, absolutely. There are not good for the environment. M7, absolutely. There are behavioural changes and this is part of the problem with the alzheimers patients because they havent got that ability to reason like a healthy individual would. But really getting out of the heat is the golden rule. We tend to glorify heat and sunny hot days because there are so few of them in the uk. But it is actually removing yourself from that hot situation. Wearing sun cream, oil. Wearing a hat to protect against the glaring sun. And also staying indoors and finding shade from the heat drinking. We sweat a lot. James lostjust under half a litre of sweat when he was just sitting relaxing in the chamber, when he was exposed to the heat. So you have got to replace that volume thatis you have got to replace that volume that is lost. So again, it is constantly Drip Feeding Fluids into the system in order to prevent that volume associated with sweating. This is all physiological stuff. What about psychologically, how does this exposure to heat affect how we think, how we act and behave . Yes. Think, how we act and behave . Yes, that is a great think, how we act and behave . Yes, that is a great question. Think, how we act and behave . 133 that is a great question. Physiology and psychology, there is an inextricable link if you like. What we showed we james provided a mechanism where we think there is some degree of brain fog, our ability to perform mental gymnastics and Cognitive Function is impaired with heat. And what we showed with james is because he was getting hotter, he was breathing a little bit more and he was blowing off Carbon Dioxide and as a result of that, blood flow to his brain decreased by io . So the brain is not able to burn as much fuel, oxygen and glucose. And because of that, this is what causes our ability to reason and remember, our mental gymnastics is impaired. We saw quite a reduction injamess ability to reason and remember. Professor Damian Bailey from the university of south wales, thank you very much forjoining us. As i said, you can see that experiment on the bbc news website or the bbc news app of our Health CorrespondentJames Gallaghers experiment into prolonged Heat Exposure. Within the last hour, we have seen President Putin addressing crowds at the annual Navy Day Parade in St Petersburg. This happens every year. Last year, they were in excess of a0 ships, 3,500 personnel. This is russia flexing its military might. When President Putin spoke, he said there would be 30 new battleships going to the russian fleet this year. They have played a crucial role of course in the ongoing conflict in ukraine, but the Russian Military budget is heavily classified, so quite interesting to get that information from President Putin. Much more on this story on the bbc website. And the bbc news app. And of course, we will bring you any breaking developments here on the bbc news channel. To stick with us, you are watching bbc news. And now its time for a look at the weather with darren bett. Hello there. Its been a promising start to the day across many parts of the country, with some sunshine, a few showers around too. But if we look out in the atlantic, this Weather System is pushing in the cloud, and thats going to be bringing some rain to some parts of the country. Around that first area of low pressure, weve had the showers swirling across scotland and Northern England. The worst of those are moving away. So fewer showers and still some sunshine into the afternoon, but wetter weather is arriving in the South West Of England and wales, pushing into Northern Ireland, towards the midlands and also across to the south east of england. And it could be quite windy, actually, for the time of year across england and wales. Lighter winds for scotland and Northern Ireland. And in the sunshine in scotland, it shouldnt feel too bad. Highest temperatures in Eastern England, ahead of that rain. But it looks like that rain is going to be heading towards the oval. The Morning Session sees the best of the weather. If we dont get the rain in the afternoon session, its certainly going to be arriving after tea. That steadier rain pushing its way across more of england and wales and Northern IrelandLate Afternoon and into the evening. And that wet weather continues to journey northwards into parts of scotland. Further south, the rain does ease off later on in the night, but we keep a lot of cloud, so its going to be a warm start to monday. Northernmost parts of scotland a little chillier, with the clearer skies, but the promise of some early sunshine to start the new week. But the weather is going to be driven by that area of low pressure thats focusing most of the rain. We still have that Weather Front, though, sitting through the English Channel. So cloud and rain here, moving on to the south coast at times, threatening the south east of england. The rain affects more of scotland through the day, and it gets wetter again across Northern Ireland, Northern Parts of england and wales. But further south, maybe a slice of something a bit drier, and eventually brighter, with some sunshine. But as you can see, its not particularly warm for this time of the year once again. Low pressure continues to drive in across the uk and its pushed in on these upper winds. This is the jet stream, and with the jet to the south of the uk, were in cooler air. As one area of low pressure gets moved away, another one comes in as we arrive into wednesday. That will bring some wet weather, especially across england and wales. And the start of august isnt really going to get any warmer because, as the rain clears away later in the week, we end up with a northerly breeze. Live from london this is bbc news.
