Sport but also the challenges there stillare. I sport but also the challenges there still are. I think its worth pointing out that theres never been more visibility for lgbtq people in sport, from the lipid level down to the grassroots nets to do with the rambo leases campaign, and pride games and just a greater willingness amongst fans to call out people who are homophobic or transfer back in sport. Theres big challenges ahead for the community, e cigarette major Sporting Events being awarded to countries with poor Human Rights Records commit far too much homophobic and transphobic language used in sport, and theres a question about how coachable athletes and people in sport at all levels still feel about coming out in sport. In the past hour the Health Secretary matt hancock has been giving the latest downing street coronavirus briefing, alongside professor stephen powis, Medical Director of nhs england, and dr Susan Hopkins of Public Health england. Lets take a look at some of the key points. The Health Secretary confirmed all residents and staff in eligible care homes have been offered a first dose of a coronavirus vaccine. A total of 9. 2 Million People have been vaccinated across the uk this weekend alone saw1 in 60 adults receive a vaccine. Nine in 10 of the over 80s have been vaccinated in the uk, as per the prioritisation list. Matt hancock also confirmed that 105 cases of the South African variant have been identified in the uk and 11 of these do not appear to have links to international travel. He stressed that while there is no evidence that the new variant is any more severe, we must come down hard on it and we will. The Health Secretary said certain areas across surrey, london, kent, hertfortdshire, southport and walsall will see enhanced testing. The clear message from matt hancock was that it is absolutely vital people in those affected areas minimise all social contact. the Health Secretary also revealed that more than 9. 2 Million People in the uk have now received their first dose of one of the three approved vaccines. In scotland, fewer than 600 thousand people have received their first vaccination, a long way short of the1 million promised. The Scottish Government say they are refining their target numbers. And today in the House Of Commons the defence secretary ben wallace said the mod was standing by to deploy more troops to scotland to help speed up the vaccine roll out let s speak to the snp s Health Spokesperson dr philippa whitford. Thank you so much for being with us. Let me ask you first of all, these figures are very disappointing aren t they . 575,000 vaccinated in scotland when the target was 1 million. So twice that. Yesterday, on the 9000 people in scotland got theirjab. That is the lowest figure since the figures were published. And of the First Minister said in her Press Briefing today that the government would be looking at what the reason for that was. Last on the numbers were dropped and chris criticised turns out we had heavy snow and you cannot expect them to come out with heavy snow and ice. The figure of 1 come out with heavy snow and ice. The figure of1 million was a figure that was mentioned back in november when we did not have any idea of how difficult the supplies would actually be. That is the key bottleneck, there s a shortage of vaccines i want to interrupt you on that. ,. ,. , vaccines i want to interrupt you on that. ,. ,. ,. That. The uk government are saying 984,000 doses that. The uk government are saying 984,000 doses have that. The uk government are saying 984,000 doses have been that. The uk government are saying 984,000 doses have been made. 984,000 doses have been made available for scotland, nearly a million which was the original target. And yet only half of those have actually been given. What is going wrong . Have actually been given. What is auoin wronu . ,. , going wrong . What we keep hearing, the Scottish Government going wrong . What we keep hearing, the Scottish Government had the Scottish Government had published all of the expected figures of what is allocated to scotland, over 900,000 was allocated to scotland and what is actually delivered. In between allocation and delivery you have the Batch Testing and lot release which can actually take several weeks. Yet the Scottish Government and try to remove those figures from their vaccination strategy plan, and what we keep getting is the uk government putting out figures that the Scottish Government was not allowed to rebut. What they say is they have not received that amount of vaccine into scotland. We don t need soldiers vaccinating, there s no shortage in any of our Health Boards of vaccinated years, but scotland is one third of the uk landmass. We are a very rural country and therefore what you have is small Vaccination Centres and vaccinations happening into care homes, home visits and in gp practices. This is a National Emergency. Gp practices. This is a National Emergency gp practices. This is a national emeruen. ~. , emergency. And the fact that you sa , in emergency. And the fact that you say. In the emergency. And the fact that you say, in the first emergency. And the fact that you say, in the First Minister emergency. And the fact that you say, in the First Minister say emergency. And the fact that you say, in the First Minister say you | say, in the First Minister say you don t know why the figure yesterday was so low, a lot of people think it s quite strange. The First Minister of scotland surely should make it her business to find out why the rate of vaccination yesterday was only 9000. I m the rate of vaccination yesterday was only 9000. The rate of vaccination yesterday was only 9000. Im sure she will be able to report was only 9000. Im sure she will be able to report on was only 9000. Im sure she will be able to report on the on her daily i able to report on the on her Daily Press Briefing tomorrow. In the parliament because of sure she will explain what that was. Obviously the new big centres will open today and may have been that staff set that up. I m not in the Scottish Government so i don t know with the daily mechanisms of that are. But this constant refusal and demands that the Scottish Government do not publish figures for the vaccine they actually have access to, but that the uk government keep throwing out figures that they say the Scottish Government have access to it. If a different process to vaccinate in scotland across a rural country with 70 inhabited islands, and small communities. But at the end of the day we are all aiming in the middle of february to achieve the top four groups from jay cvi and the Scottish Government are confident that they will do that. We are already seeing it in all numbers are thankfully small is quite scattered over many areas. In the worry is that as many cases we don t know about. They re one of the reasons why the introduction of Hotel Quarantine or Stricter Border controls need to go much further than the uk government went last week. We know about the South African and brazilian variance, but Coronavirus Mutates and there could easily be other variants out there that we don t know about.
