Thats good and even great. A jury has seen footage of the Manchester Arena bomber salman abedi looking around the area where he detonated his device, days before the attack. Police say the body of a boy, believed to be aged 13, has been found in the river wear near bishop auckland. Coming up on afternoon live all the sport with 0lly foster. Theres a fundamental change to Grassroots Football training , the under 12s wont be allowed to head the ball, because of the potential health risks. Thanks, 0lly. And ben rich has the weather. It is relentless at the moment. We have had the rain, flooding. We will talk more about that but some today have seen some significant snowfall. All that and the forecast for the week ahead on the way. Thanks ben. Also coming up the uk needs over a million more homes to give everyone somewhere decent to live in. Well be looking at the bbc analysis which underlines the scale of the housing shortage. Hello, everyone this is afternoon live. Fears of a possible coronavirus pandemic are growing, as it continues to spread globally. Health experts warn that the chances of containing the virus are diminishing. Most of the infections around 77,000 are in china but other countries including italy are battling to stop its spread. In china, nearly 2,600 people have died. Thereve been more than 1,200 cases confirmed elsewhere, and more than 20 deaths. Richard galpin reports. So great is the fear of coronavirus spreading that here in the alps last night, italian troops and Police Stopped this train from crossing into austria. Two passengers were suspected of having the virus. Hours later, the train continued its journey theyd tested negative. Elsewhere, in northern italy, the police are now setting up roadblocks to stop people entering and leaving a series of towns like this one. In total, 50,000 people are in lockdown. Italy the worst hit country in europe, so far with more than 160 cases of coronavirus, the number of dead has increased to five. This Civil Protection official said the army and air force were ready to make barracks with more than 5,000 beds available for people needing to be in quarantine. Here in milan, people are preparing for the worst, stocking up with food, emptying the shelves. Already, iconic sights like the cathedral have closed, alongside schools and universities. But the spread of coronavirus in europe is eclipsed by what is happening here in iran. 50 people are reported to have died from the virus in one city, but the government is giving much lowerfigures. Officials in neighbouring iraq, however, are taking precautions, checking people on the border with iran. We have these sporadic cases in other countries and sustained infection in these other hotspots, so the creation of sudden hotspots is telling us something. It is telling us that the infection has now spread from china to other countries, so it is only a matter of time before we call this a proper pandemic. Another major hotspot in south korea. This is the queue for facemasks in the worst hit city of daegu. The government has raised the infections disease alert for the country to its highest level. Thousands of people have been told to put themselves in quarantine. Across the demilitarised zone in north korea, the authorities have announced that 380 foreigners have been put in quarantine to try to prevent an outbreak of the virus. And in china, where the outbreak began, the government has had to postpone the annual gathering of thousands of communist Party Delegates for the National Peoples congress. There is for the first time in decades. The official reason so they can deal with the Health Crisis in their home provinces. While preventative measures in china seem to be decreasing the number of coronavirus cases, the list of other affected countries is growing, fuelling the fears of a pandemic. Richard galpin, bbc news. Lets get the latest on the coronavirus outbreaks from around the globe now from the italian city of piacenza, gyeongju in south korea, and the Chinese Capital, beijing. Iamjusta i am just a few short distances away from those exclusion zones. Towns which have been cordoned off by the authorities to prevent anyone leaving or entering. We tried to go there this morning, we were told we had to leave quickly. The Italian Government has still not managed to identify the individual that sparked this outbreak and its working very ha rd to this outbreak and its working very hard to try and do that. In the meantime, here fears are growing about possible contagion. People have been stockpiling food if you go into supermarkets here, you see lots of empty shelves, schools are shut, universities are shut and the italian Prime Minister is urging people not to panic but there is a big sense of insecurity as people wonder how long the situation is going to go on for. Today and tomorrow should have been the climax of the venices carnival but those celebrations have been stopped. Football matches have been stopped, people here very much on edge. Some have told me they think the government is overreacting to this, others say that it has been too slow in responding. Here in one of the worst affected areas in south korea, many are staying indoors. You saw them earlier queueing for masks. Many are left empty handed. There is beginning to be fear spreading here as over 700 people have contracted the virus and eight others have died. We are told by Health Officials that several others are iiow officials that several others are now ina officials that several others are now in a Critical Condition in hospital. The main area of concern isa hospital. The main area of concern is a psychiatric ward which is south of here over 100 patients who have contracted the virus. These are already vulnerable patients. Meanwhile the trace is on two trace of those infected. Including members of those infected. Including members ofa of those infected. Including members of a religious sect. Police have been given powers to track them using a mobile phone. Officials tell us using a mobile phone. Officials tell us that the race is on because they believe the next few days in south korea is critical if they are to prevent this outbreak becoming an epidemic. Here the Chinese Government has postponed the most important annual political meeting, the National Peoples congress which was due to start next week with nearly 3000 communist Party Delegates descending on this the Chinese Capital and you can imagine they are also coming from Hubei Province, the worst hit area in the country and amongst those delegates somebody could have carried the coronavirus into the great hall of the people where this country . Most Senior Leadership are, where the leadership of the military are also gathering. We dont know when this will be held but that decision will be taken at some other time stop however a different picture is emerging in the province and the rest of the country. In the country. Inside Hubei Province we are hearing the mortality rate is as high as 4 but if you take the out of the equation, across the country that mortality rate goes down to 0. 7 so you can see what a different picture we are getting across the country. 0utside we are getting across the country. Outside of Hubei Province it does seem, these figures seem to be showing that it is working when the government imposed these restrictions on peoples movements. The disease is spreading much less quickly and is in a much better situation than in hubei where it is still pretty dire. Kuwait has suspended all flights to and from iraq due to the spread of the coronavirus in that region. Global concerns increasing by the hour. And well be taking your questions on coronavirus in a special edition of your questions answered on afternoon live. Well be putting them to professor david heyman from London School of hygiene and tropical medicine, and professor paul hunter, a professor of medicine at the norwich medical school. Thats coming up on the bbc news channel, just after 2 30. Send your questions in on twitter with the hash tag, bbcyourquestions, or email your questions at. The us President Donald Trump has thanked india for what he called a spectacular welcome at the start of a two day visit to the country. The president addressed more than 100,000 people in a packed stadium in gujarat, before visiting the taj mahal in agra. The two countries are trying to Reach Agreement on a new trade deal, and lavish preparations have been laid on for the visit, but critics have questioned the scale and cost of the events. Rajini Vaidya Nathan reports. The first lady and President Trump begun their world wind trip to india in gujarat. Home town of narendra modi, who welcomed them with his trademark bear hug. Traditional dances you do not normally see on the tarmac. For the president , who is often greeted by protest, a procession through the city streets. No sign of the 7 Million People who posted would turner but lot of love for mr trump for those who did. He is a nice man, a friend of india. Two great leaders, may be they will ta ke two great leaders, may be they will take india to new heights. The atmosphere here is a electric mat for what is the hottest ticket in town. Two leader considered political rock stars, deeply polarising but also hugely popular. The main event, a rally to inaugurate the Worlds Largest cricket stadium. In the Worlds Largest democracy. India usa relations are no longer just another fantasy. It is a far greater and closer relationship. America loves india, america respects india and america will always be faithful and loyal friends to the indian people. America still cannot agree a trade deal with india after months of tough talks. With his daughter and son in law watching on, the president praised the Cultural Heritage of india but it did not all go to plan. As the great religious teacher once said. There were no awkward moments when the first couple paid a visit to the famous taj mahal, a monument built by an emperor for his wife, dedicated to love. The partnership between india and the us remains strong but while there have been plenty of photo moments, it is unclear what major policy agreements this visit may achieve. 0ur india correspondent Yogita Limaye is in delhi. I think the president s plane has touched there recently. Who has most touched there recently. Who has most to gain, india or the United States from this trip . Actually india has been unclear about what they are expecting from this visit. As far as this country is concerned the us is its biggest trade partner but it sells more to the us than it buys. There is a huge trade deficit and in 2018 it was about 25 billion, that is what donald trump has repeatedly said, that he wants to reduce and thatis said, that he wants to reduce and that is the trade deal they have been working on but india has clearly said that it doesnt want to rush into any trade deal because this is a complex issue. At best what we are hoping for to be announced tomorrow possibly, something that President Trump mentioned in his speech today was a 3 billion deal between india and the us for india to buy military helicopters from the us. But all of that business is going to happen tomorrow. To date really was a public spectacle. It was on display the chemistry between these two macro leaders, the president being greeted on the tarmac with a bear hug from indias Prime Minister and that huge rally in the stadium in gujarat as well. And looking at the security arrangements, india pretty tense in many areas at the moment and this is something they could do without right now . That is right. We have had protests against indias new citizen ship law since december and today has been a particularly tense day in the national capital, delhi, in North Eastern parts of the city there were violent clashes that broke out between supporters and people opposing this law. Stones we re people opposing this law. Stones were thrown, vehicles were set on fire, one policeman died in those clashes and that area is only about nine miles from where the president is going to spend his night and he emphasised a lot about india and the us and their shared values, these two big democracies in the world, so it isa two big democracies in the world, so it is a pretty embarrassing situation for india to be in where you had a tense, quite violent day in the capital on the day that President Trump has arrived. That image that every dignitary has to have, the image in front of the taj mahal, we have a think to yourself, one can imagine the president was thinking i wish i had practised some names before i got here. Yes. Certainly that was also something eve ryo ne certainly that was also something everyone was looking forward to seeing, how they would pose there, what would it look like. As i was saying, today was mostly about that colour, about going to the Gandhi Ashram in gujarat, about that big spectacle in the stadium, about goading to agra, the monument of love. Tomorrow they get down to business, the real bilateral meetings will take place but many are wondering if anything substantial will even happen during those meetings. Youre watching afternoon live, these are our headlines more infections of coronavirus are reported around the world with queues for facemasks, as governments struggle to contain further outbreaks. Italy is reporting a sixth death. Stock markets see sharp falls. The trumps at the taj the president starts a two day visit to india, hoping for a trade deal. A jury has seen footage of the Manchester Arena bomber salman abedi looking around the area where he detonated his device, days before the attack. In sport under 12 s in england, scotla nd in sport under 12 s in england, scotland and Northern Ireland will be banned from heading the ball in training because of the potential health risks. Research showed former footballers are three times more likely to die from degenerative brain disease. Following his triumph there are calls for the homecoming celebration and civic reception when tyson fury returns to manchester but his previous homophobic comments could rule that out. And after losing their first match, australia have beaten sri lanka by five wickets at the womens t20 world cup in perth. A full update in the next 15 minutes. A jury has seen footage of the Manchester Arena bomber looking around the area where he detonated his device, days before the attack. Salman abedi killed 22 people and injured hundreds more at the end of an Ariana Grande concert in may 2017. His younger brother, hashem, is on trial, accused of helping him plan and prepare the attack. 0ur correspondent, dan johnson, reports from the old bailey. Thejury the jury has seen the cctv images from the 18th of may 2017, four days before the bombing. It shows salman abedi leaving the flat he rented in Manchester City centre, heading across town to Victoria Station and to manchesters arena and he spent time there wondering around, looking at different bits and pieces, and going up to the city room, an area just outside the arena that connects it to manchester Victoria Station. That evening the 18th of may there was a take that concert on at the arena so it was busy, there were people milling about and footage showed people queueing, waiting to get tickets and meet friends and salman abedi walked right through there, spent a few minutes. The prosecution says carrying out a reconnaissance mission, working out where he will detonate his bomb, where he will detonate his bomb, where the best place to do that was to affect the most people and after that he went to a centre and bought batteries and a hard blue suitcase which he took back to the flat. The next morning he was seen taking a taxi across the city to a car park where he left a car a few weeks before and the prosecution says that car was packed with the other necessary ingredients that he needed to put together to assemble his bomb and he was seen returning to the flat with the suitcase and struggling with it because it was so heavy. The prosecutions case here is about hashem abedi, his younger brother. The prosecution said he knew what was in that car because he helped, assisted, helped his brother plan and prepare in the months before the attack. He denies all the charges. Parts of the centre are under water, barriers have been put up and Shropshire Council has closed many routes into and around the area. A severe Flood Warning is in place, meaning there is a danger to life. There are dozens of Flood Warnings and alerts across britain after heavy rainfall. 0ur reporter, victoria norris, is in shrewsbury for us. This is the second time in a week that the river severn has run through the streets of shrewsbury and there seems to be no letup. There are allowed to Flood Warnings in place, one here in shrewsbury and the surrounding area, and another about ten miles downstream. We have been here all morning and the river has encroached on this high street. There have been sandbags put out in the hope of protecting businesses and people have been telling us that they now know what to do. Local schools have shot like this one here, they have shot early and in fa ct here, they have shot early and in fact schools in ironbridge have shot today and are shutting tomorrow. To get the latest i am joined by crisp dangerfrom the get the latest i am joined by crisp danger from the Environment Agency. Can you give us the latest . We are starting to get to a level which is beyond the levels we had last week. Importantly, these are severe Flood Warnings so we have two macro importantly, these are severe Flood Warnings so we have two macro severe Flood Warnings in the area that means there is a danger to life. The idea here is to make sure we get people out of their properties and make sure we have help where we can to protect the properties. Have we reached the peak for today yet . No. We havent. That rain we had this morning and over night is coming together and we probably now will not see a peak until sometime tomorrow and i cant even give you a definite on that. But i think we are going to exceed the levels of 20 years ago. Tell me about those levels of 20 years ago . We talk here about a level at the welsh bridge gauge and it was 5. 2 metres and we think it will exceed that and we had to be prepared. We have issued a severe warning that has levels from 5. 2 5. 5, that is severe warning that has levels from 5. 2 5. 5, that is very Important News for locals because they will understand what those numbers mean. Thank you very much. We will be looking out for what is happening over the next few hours and a few days and of course you can get all the information on your bbc local radio stations. Downing street has said it has full confidence in the home secretary, priti patel, after a series of newspaper reports claiming she is distrusted by intelligence officials in m15, and that she has bullied staff. A Home Office Spokesman has said the allegations are false, and deeply concerning. Votings opened in the labour partys leadership contest. Party members are choosing between sir keir starmer, lisa nandy and rebecca long bailey. The polls close on april 2nd with the winner being announced two days later. The uk needs more than a million new homes to give everyone somewhere decent to live in thats the finding of an analysis by the bbc which underlines the scale of the countrys housing shortage. Its thought that at the current rate, it could take 15 years to make up the shortfall. Lets talk to simon gompers. What else has been found . It is important to see the whole landscape and it is still the case that most people are owner occupiers and the number is between 17 and 18 million, 17. 6 Million People live in their own property. That has been stable in the last couple of decades. Where the last couple of decades. Where the real change has been is in private renting and the number of people who privately rent is nearly 5. 5 million, that has doubled from 20 years ago. In addition to that we have those in Council Homes and in Housing Association accommodation. That is just below five million and Council Property a lot lower, Housing Association replace some of that but it has gone down quite a lot so the big growth is in privately renting, quite expensive and that is where the tension comes for people trying to get the deposit together to buy a home but they cant do it because they are paying a high rent. That has led to some interesting figures on the number of younger people staying at home. The figures are for 20 25 year olds, go back a couple of decades it was 1. 9 million living with parents, that has gone up to nearly 2. 5 million. The survey we showed today shows that people in their late 20s, early 30s, still a quite high proportion living either with family or with friends, rent free in some cases to try and save up for a deposit and in many cases that is what they choose to do, but it does cause tension. It is not often what People Choose and there are other tension points, for instance, couples who put off having a child, that is a phenomenon now because they are not living where they would like to be. How many homes do need to solve this problem . Bbc briefing document that we have brought out today and has made some of these calculations since we have 1. 2 million fewer homes than we should do at the moment and that is the cause of the problems, finding somewhere to buy but also finding something economical to read. From here because of population growth and because people tend to be living in smallerfamily and because people tend to be living in smaller family units, we need more homes, we will need 4 million more homes, we will need 4 million more by 2035. The good news is if we carry the rate of Home Building at current rates, we will fill that gap, the housing gap within 15 yea rs. Gap, the housing gap within 15 years. But that is a long time to wait if you are looking for a home in the real pinch point is Affordable Homes and experts will tell you we are building about 50,000 of those here, not nearly enough and that is where the problems occur. We can speak to kate warburton, external Affairs Manager for the National Housing federation in the west midlands. Shejoins us from birmingham. Why arent these houses being built . 0ne why arent these houses being built . One of the key issues for us is lack offunding. We one of the key issues for us is lack of funding. We have seen funding for new Affordable Housing decrease over the last few decades which means there is a lack of Properties Available for the people on the lowest incomes, the most vulnerable in society and not in a available them. Housing associations have tried to plug some of that gap, for example, by Building Properties for market cell then using the proceeds to build build new properties for Affordable Housing but it is not enough. 0urfigures Affordable Housing but it is not enough. 0ur figures also say that we need to build 145,000 new Affordable Housing units over each year for the next ten years and so we are calling on government to invest in those units to really help the poorest in society access a home. The difficulty for them because we have people placed on waiting lists for decades some of them, there is a rise in homelessness, the system isnt working as it is. I am wondering what you have seen, young people been forced to do to try and work wound this problem . Absolutely. If you are at the point in your life where you need access to Affordable Housing and you cant access it you will be forced into the private rented sector and for reasons that your correspondence have said, private rents are massively increasing so they are incredibly unaffordable for the majority. Therefore you get trapped in a spiral of debt, poverty even homelessness or you end up in overcrowded accommodation, unsuitable accommodation or as you have said living with mum and dad which obviously is not suitable for many. What can government do . We think we have a budget coming up next month and we think that is a fantastic opportunity for government to commit the investment in Affordable Housing, particularly for social rent which is a product targeted at those on the lowest incomes. We are calling for 12. 8 billion a year in that budget to really fu nd billion a year in that budget to really fund the Affordable Housing we need to see. Thank you. And you can download the new bbc briefing on housing, by going to. Breaking news on the coronavirus. A seventh person has died from the outbreak in italy. This is coming from the Italian News Agency so that in seven people now dead in italy and just to bring the latest figures here in the uk, the department of health says over 6500 people have been tested of which under 6000 have tested negative. This does not include those on the diamond princess cruise ship. 609 have tested positive so far. We will keep you updated. We will keep an eye on those figures and bring them to you. Lets have a look at the weather and ben rich is here. An awful lot going on. That tells me we are starting with scotland. A lot to talk about. Not only scotland, parts of Northern Ireland, Northern England as well, thatis ireland, Northern England as well, that is North Yorkshire earlier on today. Parts of Northern Ireland had a lot of snow, that was county durham. I will show you the amounts. Nothing unusualfor durham. I will show you the amounts. Nothing unusual for the winter but this winter hasnt thought much snow. This came as a bit of a shock. Parts of Northern Ireland saw 14 centimetres of snow, nine centimetres of snow, nine centimetres in cumbria. A bit of a shock so late in the winter after what has been a mild and stainless one for many. We are looking also at rain figures and bingley features on that map. Absolutely. Figures for the month so far. They are current up the month so far. They are current up to six oclock this morning and we are not at the end of the month yet, but bingley has had more than three times its average february rainfall, that is for the whole month. More than three times what they would expect in the whole of february. Bingley not alone either. In sheffield we have had very close to three times the Monthly Average so far this month. Let me take you to wells because this is important. A place where we have had 2. 5 times the average rainfall. The water from here flows through the river burnley and into the river seven down into places like shropshire, herefordshire but shrewsbury making the headlines and with all that water still flowing down, we have that severe Flood Warning in shrewsbury at the moment. We are expecting a record peak later on today so that the flooding situation is only expected to get worse. anybody wanted to escape the weather, some are paying the price for that. If anyone asked me where in europe is good for a winter break, you would often recommend the ca nary islands. But look break, you would often recommend the canary islands. But look at these pictures or at least try and make out these pictures. There has been a sandstone in the canary islands. There is a plane, you canjust see it. These pictures are from gran canaria, lots it. These pictures are from gran ca naria, lots of it. These pictures are from gran canaria, lots of travel disruption for holiday makers in that part of the world. High pressure, quite strongly built across the south west of europe. An area of low pressure forcing strong winds out of africa blowing all that sand and dust and delivering the scenes we have been seeing. We can see it quite clearly. Some quite nice satellite imagery. This is saturday. You can see the dust coming out of africa and into la nza rote a nd dust coming out of africa and into la nza rote and by dust coming out of africa and into lanzarote and by sunday, it had worked its way westwards across all of the canary islands. This is expected to clear as the winds become northerly and we stopped at the feet of sand from africa. You had better bring us up to speed. Back to the uk, a lot going on here at home. This is how the rest of the week is looking. More rain to come at times, a lot in the form of showers. Some drenching downpour is, still the risk of flooding. Some snow will continue to mix in with their showers and it will feel cool, often windy as well. The detail and as we had through the rest of this afternoon, the pattern we have developed so far today will continue. This snowfall which has been affecting Northern Ireland, Northern England, scotland will drift northwards but we are starting to see something brighter developing through Northern Ireland, a good pa rt through Northern Ireland, a good part of england and wales. The snow over
