The chelsea midfielder toni rudiger said hed been subjected to monkey chants, prompting the referee to briefly stop play. As our Sports Correspondent andy swiss reports its the latest in a series of recent incidents affecting the english game it was a day english football was once again overshadowed by racism. Chelseas Antonio Rudiger clearly showing hed heard abuse from the crowd an hour into his teams game against tottenham. He informed his captain, who in turn told the referee, and after he spoke to both managers, for the first time in the premier league, a warning was made over the public address system, twice repeated. Announcer racist behaviour among spectators is interfering with the game. Please remember that in football there is no place for racism. At the end of the match the chelsea skipper explained what happened. Toni came to me and he told me that he was listening in the crowd monkey noises, and obviously myjob as a captain is to go straight to the ref and to report it. Now its an investigation and we have to work all together now its under investigation and we have to work all together towards eradication of the problem. Tottenham have launched an investigation. Tottenham Hotspur Football Club is a very proud club in relation to these situations. We also deal internally with that. But i think the protocol was followed. This is just the latest allegation of racist abuse to hit the english game. Two weeks ago, a man was arrested at manchester citys game against manchester united, while an fa cup match between haringey and yeovil had to be abandoned. They say they will take the strongest possible action against any individual found to be behaving in sucha any individual found to be behaving in such a way, including stadium bans. One would imagine with all the cameras and technology in the stadiums these days it might be relatively easy to catch any alleged perpetrator. Andy mentioned those incidents in the uk. Earlier this year, there was also black england players being abused earlier this year when they played in bulgaria. Today, though, just a reminder that if there were people out there who thought that the issue of racism had gone away in football that doesnt seem to be the case. Jon donnison at white hart lane, thank you. Tesco has suspended production of cards made at a factory in china after a message was found inside from prisoners who said they had been forced to work. It was discovered by a six year old in london writing her christmas cards. It is thought to have come from a prison in shanghai, as Katie Prescott reports. Ready . Uhhuh. Here we go. It was six Year Old School Girl Florence Widdicombe whod sat down at home to write christmas cards to her friends and family when she discovered that one of the cards had already been written in. We were writing in them and about on my sixth or eighth card somebody had already written in it. There was a message which read we are foreign prisoners in shanghai qing pu prison china. Forced to work against our will. Please help us and notify human rights organisation. The first thought was it must be some kind of prank. But on reflection we realised it was actually potentially quite a serious thing. And so i felt very shocked but i also felt a responsibility to pass it on to Peter Humphrey, as the author asked me to do. The family did just that and got in touch with the human rights journalist Peter Humphrey who the message in the card had suggested they contact. He himself had spent time in the qing pu prison for his part in an alleged corruption scandal. I spent two years in captivity in shanghai between 2013 and 2015, and my final nine months of that captivity was in this very prison in this very cell block where this message has come from, and these prisoners are living a very bleak daily life. There are 12 prisoners per cell. They sleep in very rusty iron bunk beds with a mattress which is not more than about one centimetre thick. A tesco spokeswoman said the company was shocked and that it would never allow prison labour in its supply chain. It has now launched an investigation and production at the factory has been suspended. Katie prescott, bbc news. Lets take a look at some of todays other news. This will be a difficult christmas for everybody involved. Ajudge will now look at the merits of extradition, and then the home secretary will make a final decision. Duncan kennedy, bbc news, northamptonshire. Australias Prime Minister has acknowledged a link between Global Warming and extreme weather as firefighters struggle to control raging bushfires. Scott morrison has apologised for being on holiday as two firefighters were killed those in New South Wales are still trying to control more than 100 fires. Shaimaa khalil has the story. It feels like a deserted war zone. But this is the aftermath of the catastrophic bushfires that have ravaged New South Wales. And in the village of bao morrow, the devastation is everywhere. And in the village of bamoral, the devastation is everywhere. And in the village of balmoral, the devastation is everywhere. Russell scholes has been a volunteer firefighter for six years. He was out with his team trying to control the blaze in the village when his own house was burned to the ground. So many of the brigade are tired. Thus the mental side of it when youre continually battling something you cant beat. The only thing that will be this is Mother Nature when she decides to open the heavens up and put it out. So, we cant. Were running out of water here. The Prime Minister Scott Morrison, appearing for the first time today after fierce criticism of his holiday in hawaii, conceded that more needed to be done to tackle Global Warming, with scientists saying that drier conditions brought about by Climate Change have worsened the impact of bushfires. Our government, and i have always acknowledged, the connection between these weather events and these broader fire events and the impact globally of Climate Change. I get it that people would have been upset to know that i was holidaying with my family while their families were under great stress. They know that im not going to stand there and hold a hose, im not a trained firefighter. The catastrophic fires have subsided but the situation is still extremely dangerous here. The roads remain closed off. Balmoral was one of the worst hit areas by saturdays fires and the community is still very much in shock. Many havent returned to see what happened to their homes and what happened to their village. Just opposite the road from russells shattered house is a very different picture. Craig hurley stayed to defend his home during the fires, using up all the water reserves he had. Flames like a five or six storey building just roaring all around you. Just scared as hell, you dont know what to do. Try not to panic, but yeah, we got the job done, so we saved most of the stuff. Australias bracing itself for a scorching summer, and many are wondering where the next big fire is going to hit. And shaimaa is live in sydney now. Did Prime Minister morrisons comments amount to a change in his view on Climate Change . Well, it is a change in tone, im not sure a change of view. What he said remains quite vague, while they conceded there is something to be done about Climate Change, Scott Morrison didnt specify what the government is going to do, how they are going to do it, and more crucially when they are going to do it. Remember during the elections earlier this year, Scott Morrison campaigned on jobs come earlier this year, Scott Morrison campaigned onjobs come on a prosperous economy and australias economy is heavily dependent on the fossil fuel economy is heavily dependent on the fossilfuel and coal economy is heavily dependent on the fossil fuel and coal industry, economy is heavily dependent on the fossilfuel and coal industry, and you cannot address Climate Change without addressing that dependency. It has been a really divisive issue since the beginning of the bushfire crisis. This government has time and time again refused to be drawn on that debate and they accused anybody who brought it up of politicising the crisis. Now we are seeing and hearing a change of tack, but with the ferocity of these fires and the devastation, many are saying that concessions alone are just not enough. Shaimaa khalil, in sydney, thank you. A national nrc would introduce citizenship checks for eve ryo ne introduce citizenship checks for everyone in the country, something many protesters fear could target muslims. Today, the Prime Minister said his government hadnt discussed one since he came to power in 2014. But his close ally home minister and that shah has repeatedly promised to introduce an nrc, even in parliament. While the status of that is now unclear, experts say the pa rtys is now unclear, experts say the partys wider agenda isnt. There is no question the bjp government through its legislative agenda is moving in the direction of becoming a hindu state. When you introduce a law that brings religion into determining who is an indian, all indians become vulnerable. Indians from all backgrounds are taking to the streets as the movement against the streets as the movement against the citizenship law and the Narendra Modi government grows stronger. Its a Beautiful Day in this neighbourhood a Beautiful Day for a neighbour. Tom hanks as the legendary american Childrens Television personality, the kindly mr rogers, who finds himself the subject of a magazine profile by a hard boiled journalist, played by matthew rhys. The films director, marielle heller, told them the movie was really about men and their feelings. Very nice. Cut. Any time a woman says to a guy, id like to make a movie about men and their feelings, it strikes terror in the hearts of any man. You mean you want me to. You want me to probe my inner f f feelings and try to bring them out . Its a Beautiful Day in the neighbourhood a Beautiful Day for a neighbour please wont you be my neighbour. That was wonderful. Do you identify with him you, tom hanks . Ithink. I have a reputation, and the word they always say is a nice guy, because i guess i am a nice guy. I dont instilfear. I am not in this necessarily for power or influence, but at the same time dont piss me off, cos ill crush you. And. Action. Do you know what this is . Did you learn anything about yourself, doing this role . Oh, yeah, i learned an awful lot of my individual failings. Iam kind of loud, iam needy in some ways, i probably have attention deficit disorder. Yeah, can we have some of you sit over there on that bench, especially you two, who i am going to have there first to start it off . Here we are again with a list of golden globe nominees, and no female directors. Yeah. Er. Sooner or later, it comes down to, well, is it a meritocracy or what . I think you could look at any group of nominees and say, just these white guys, really . I wasnt surprised. I hate to say that but, you know. Its an old industry. There is a version of a director that people have in their head. Its a white, older man in a baseball cap, sitting in a chair with headphones on. You know, i have it happen to me on every movie set, someone asks me if i am a pa or if i work in the art department. You know, i dont look like what somebody thinks a director looks like. You know, we have an unconscious bias. Its just there and, until more of us are around and people are seeing us and we are visible, that cant change. The awards season has barely begun. A bafta or an oscar directing nomination is certainly possible and, if neither happens. There are many things you can do. You can play all the lowest keys on a piano at the same time. Will gompertz, bbc news. Thats it from us. There is more coming up on the bbc news channel including a first look at tomorrow mornings newspapers. Now time for the news where you are on bbc one. Good night. Hello. This is bbc news with lukwesa burak. In a moment, we ll be taking an in depth look at the papers with our reviewers, benedict paviot and martin benthen. Thats coming up after the headlines. That is just after 10 30pm. Lets get more now on the news that tottenhams premier league win over chelsea appears to be have been marred by racist behaviour from the crowd. The referee stopped play in the second half after an object was thrown onto the pitch. He was then approached by chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger. An address made over tottenhams public address system then warned racist behaviour is interfering with the game. Earlier, i spoke to rob hastings, a tottenham fan who was at the game with his father. He described what he saw from where he was sitting. The ref had stopped the game and was chatting to the players and then ran across to speak to the managers. So i sit with my father, and we sat wondering, what is going on here, and following the racist incidents that england have endured in international matches, i suppose football fans are now a bit more educated in the sort of protocols of what happens when these incidents occur, so i said to my dad, the only thing i can think of is that someone has thrown something or someone had said something racist because we now know that that is what the referees do when those sort of things happen, so the ref ran over to the managers, spoke to them for a few seconds and then ran back and play continued, i do not know how long afterwards, it might have been a couple of minutes, an announcement was made to the entire stadium saying, i think it said something along the lines of, this is a security announcement, racist behaviour is interfering with the game, racism plays no part in football, Something Like that. I do not know, in the remaining 20 minutes or however long it was of the match, that announcement was played again another couple of times. I have been a season Ticket Holder at spurs for only three years but i have been going to matches regularly for the past 15, i would say. I have never seen or heard anything racist, so it is quite a shock when your own club is involved in this. There was an incident, i think, last season, where someone was alleged to have thrown a banana at an arsenal fan and that was equally a shock. The spurs club, it has quite a sort ofjewish identity, and for the club over the years, the fans have been the victims of racism over the years, and it is just disgusting and horrible to hear that your own club now is involved in this. It only takes one fan amid 60,000 to do something stupid and horrible, to tarnish the name of the club and the fans and the whole community, i suppose. The fans i was speaking to after the match, everyone was just really embarrassed that it should be our club that is involved in this, and it is obviously something in wider society. It is not just a problem in football. I suppose when lots of fans are together and in very passionate circumstances, that is when some of these horrible things can come out, but it is something that is a problem in society generally, and it is sad that football maybe provokes it sometimes. That was rob hastings, a tottenham fan, speaking to me earlier. Time for a look at the weather with tomasz. Well, heres the good news from tomorrow, the days will start getting longer. In fact, a whole second longer on monday. How about the weather . Well, we have a mixture of sunshine and showers in the forecast but most of the time the weather will be dry and bright. And that is because we will be in between weather systems on monday. One low pressure and its weather front clearing away to the east and then we get into this big gap before the next low arrives afterwards. But lets concentrate on the early hours of monday first. We have some clear spells. In the south, it will not be particularly cold, showers affecting Northern Ireland and western scotland, and the only real frost will probably be in northern and North Eastern scotland, around minus 2 in aberdeen and a lot milder in the south. Heres mondays weather forecast. There is a low pressure approaching us, that will not reach us until late monday night, so the bulk of monday itself is actually looking fine across most of the uk. Not absolutely everywhere because we are expecting showers. You can see here, in the north west of the country. To the south, across wales and england, it will be a mostly dry day, and also in the north and east of scotland, some sunshine. Here the weather will be coldest, around 4 degrees in aberdeen. In the south, double figures. 11 in cardiff, plymouth and london. And then monday night, that rain spills into the southwest and western parts of the country, and with that also comes a lot of mild air, so that means that Christmas Eve will be a mild day, particularly across the south of the uk. It will be an often cloudy one with rain at times, too. We are not expecting an awful lot of rain but certainly if youre in the southern half of the uk it may not be particularly pleasant but the good news is that later on tuesday evening, the weather will start to dry out and we will start to see clearer spells developing, and that is a hint of things to come for christmas itself. The good news is that on Christmas Day itself, we could be waking up to a lot of sunshine, slightly colder weather, maybe even a touch of frost across the north east of the country. Really quite a Beautiful Day for many of us, and still mild. Temperatures will be around nine, maybe 10 degrees in the south. Closer to six in the north before this arrives for boxing day
