Meanwhile, newly elected mps have been arriving in westminster for the start of a new parliamentary session. The conservatives have 109 new mps, including many from areas usually held by labour, like north east england. Wales first female conservative mps among them, a micro brewery owner, and former dolphin trainer have arrived for their first day at the houses of parliament. Others have tweeted that their victories still havent sunk in. The new intake will be asked to vote on borisjohnsons brexit deal this friday, and all conservatives have already pledged to support it. 0ur Political Editor Laura Kuenssberg reports. Cheering. The early hours of friday. Boris pictures captured by a staffer at tory hq. Scarcely believing the win. How many more hospitals . 40. And how many nurses are being recruited . 50,000 an early start today. Work to do. The tories now have an mp for every day of the year. Plenty from seats that have never before turned blue. This is the start of an enormous opportunity to do some real good for the residents of the north east. It is a lot of pressure. It is daunting but we are excited to get in there and get started. Got goose bumps. The hairs on the back of your neck are standing up as you walk across westminster bridge. It is surreal that it is actually happening. We can get these things done. Mega exciting. The first time you remember this sort of thing is the first day at big school. And here we go. The tories blasted through the election. 109 new mps arriving to these hallowed halls. A huge change for the party, after years when number ten could not rely on much. Have you got a newjob, sir . I hope not. A huge majority that is balanced for the Prime Minister and his cabinet to act with comparatively little standing in their way. God bless the Prime Minister. Thank you. You do not need divine guidance to work out that everything will take a back seat to getting out of the eu at the end of next month. No radical reshuffle today, after brexit day onjanuary 31, much more could change. Should you stand aside for an interim leader . But how the tories fare depends partly on who replaces him. Is it time to go . Corbyn has promised to go, but not yet. Attention turns to who to take next. This is a moment for reflection. We are talking to lots of colleagues. The competition doesnt open until early next year. But when it turned to what went wrong. Jeremy corbyns weak and incompetent leadership, the decision to back a second referendum which alienated millions in our leave voting seats, and a manifesto which read more like a Christmas Wish list. Or turn on each other. One of the possible contenders for the top job planning to sue another former labour mp for suggestions that she made derogatory comments about her constituents. People can slag me off. Some of it is due, i take it on the chin, but they cannot make bleep up about me and if they do i have to take it to the courts. The lib dems are feeling the cost of the election, not a huge new tribe, a smaller family snap today. The tories are not the only winners. The snp is back in bigger numbers. Making up a different parliament, with a differentjob ahead, at the start of a different age. Lets get more on borisjohnsons cabinet appointments. This was the reaction from simon hart the new welsh secretary. He said he was looking forward to the role as he left the Cabinet Office this evening. Im amazed and delighted, i really am, actually. As ever, we enter into these negotiations in a spirit of optimism and determination. And now the big test is political will. I have listened very carefully during this election campaign, and right throughout the campaign there was a desire to get stormont back up and running again. Therefore, we are here to try and make that happen, i hope all the other parties will too. Since the dup lost its influence in westminster, theres new incentive to get back to power sharing here, but deeply held positions on both sides make compromise a difficult task. Both parties were punished in the general election for three years of stalemate. If theres no agreement in weeks they will Face Assembly elections, a path they may want to avoid. Hundreds of former sub postmasters accused of stealing from the post office say theyve been vindicated following a High Court Ruling that the Computer System they had to use was flawed. Last week, the post office agreed to pay compensation of £58 million to more than 550 workers, many of whom lost their livelihoods or were even sent to prison. Simon gompertz has more. 1a years trying to clear their names. Seema, on the left, was sent to prison while pregnant, because of shortfalls on her post offices computer in surrey. Jo lost £60,000 through computer shortfalls at her branch in hampshire, and pleaded guilty to false accounting to avoid a more serious charge of theft. Both were at court today, triumphant, along with dozens of others who had run local post offices, that the judgment had gone their way. Cheering. Financially, physically, mentally, everything. As you probably know, i was pregnant when they put me away, and whole family suffered, notjust, like, you know, i couldnt work for the last ten years. I cant tell you, when youve done nothing wrong and youre trying to prove your innocence, its horrendous. The postmasters case was brought by more than 550 of them. Last week, the post office agreed to pay £58 million to settle it. This judgment could affect whether311 convictions being looked at by the criminal cases review commission could be overturned. It all came down to a Computer System called horizon. Campaigners say postmasters were blamed unfairly when money went missing. This has been utterly devastating, life changing things for these people, who are often the pillars of their communities. I am glad their reputation has been restored now, but its shocking what has happened to them. Thejudge, mrjustice frazer, said that the horizon it system, which the sub postmasters blame for their problems, was not remotely robust, and even in a revised version it had a significant number of bugs. That is going to be hugely important for those who have been convicted, and who want to overturn those convictions. The post office has apologised. It says its systems have been improved. For those who ran branches, likejo and seema, theres now the hope they will be cleared completely. Simon gompertz, bbc news. India has been gripped by demonstrations over a new citizenship law, which many see as anti muslim. Prime minister Narendra Modi has appealed for calm, but hes faced criticism for the law which offers amnesty to Illegal Migrants from three countries as long as theyre not muslim. The protests have been about different elements of the new law. Beginning in assam, theyve now spread to several major cities, including the capital new delhi. From there, our india correspondent Yogita Limaye sent this report. The crowds are swelling, and so is the anger. Another day of protest against indias new citizenship law. It grants amnesty to Illegal Immigrants but only non muslim ones. Today, here outside one of delhis top universities they were also agitating against police action. This is footage from inside the local hospital on sunday night. Dozens of injured students were brought in. Police came inside, they dragged out. They say they were beaten by police when they were protesting. One of those wounded has broken fingers on both hands and a head injury. He also showed us marks of where he had been beaten on his back. When they caught us, like they started beating us up, we were begging for mercy and we took our lords name. Name. I said allah save me and that they became more cruel. The bbc has spoken to this man, a passer by. Who says he got caught up in the violence and was shot at by the police. A top officer denies it. There was no gunshot . No guns were fired. It is not a peaceful protest which set buses on fire, it is not peaceful which a crowd of 5,000 start pelting stones on citizens. What started in this campus in this university in delhi has spread far beyond it. Many believe that young people here, who were trying to voice their dissent in a democracy were crushed by the state. And that has triggered a reaction across india. Today, people marched all over. An unprecedented show of dissent as what they say as an attack on the secular ideals india was founded on and free speech. Yogita limaye, bbc news, dehli. The headlines on bbc news. Mike ashley, whose Sports Direct business bought the struggling Department Store chain, has said theyre working to save as manyjobs as possible. It came as Sports Direct reported a rise in half year profits. 0ur reporter nina nanji is here. Just fill us in, whats going on exactly . At the battle to turn around house of fraser continues. Remember, Sports Director bought it out of it ministration last year, and it was really on its knees at that point. But it has continued to struggle. In the summer, mike ashley issued this statement which was really extraordinary, talking about how the problems there were terminal and that there would continue to struggle. He was essentially full of regret for ever having bought it. Today was a slightly more optimistic tone they took. They said that there we re tone they took. They said that there were some green shoots of recovery at the company, and the chief Financial Officer has been speaking to the bbc. We can listen to what he said now. Im going to use my analogy on this one, so if we talk about football teams we have integrated house of fraser into the sports fraser Prospect Group machine. Before he took it on, everything not knelt down had been outsourced. It was unsustainable. We sorted out the goalkeeper and the defence, and the next thing we will do is build on the midfield in the attack. A sporting analogy there. He seems quite optimistic, so i suppose therefore the question is why are they cutting stores . The problem is some of the house of Fraser Stores are still unprofitable. So that will lead to some store closures, and as you say, that could unfortunately mean somejob you say, that could unfortunately mean some job losses as well, although he did say they would try to keep these to a minimum. At this point we dont know which stores we re point we dont know which stores were closed and how many of them will close. We do know that house of fraser had 59 stores at the time it went into Administration Last year. Since then it has been forced to close seven of them. But overall if we ta ke close seven of them. But overall if we take a Bigger Picture view at Sports Direct Sports Direct, they are actually very strong. Pre tax profits were up 160 to about almost £200 million. The shares were up 30 , andi £200 million. The shares were up 30 , and i talk about Sports Direct, we should say theyve changed their name today, and it will now be known as fraser Prospect Group in the future, which has all been part of the company s overall plan to move to an upmarket model and away from cheap sportswear. Remember when mike ashley bought house of fraser, he described turning it into the harrods of the high street, but a nalysts harrods of the high street, but analysts have warned it will take more thanjust analysts have warned it will take more than just a rebrand to really for some long time change of the brand. Thanks for that update. Lets go back to that story about paymasters who say their lives were ruined by a system. Well, joining me now is seema misra, who you will have seen talking shes on the line now from woking. We are very grateful for your time. Lets go back to the beginning, if we make, and just ask you, what did the post office say that you had done . In the beginning year, they took me forfalse done . In the beginning year, they took me for false accounting and theft, which i denied. So they told you why was that . Because money was disappearing . In my case, the issue starts from the very first day. When there was a shortfall, they told me that it was good. And why did you think there was a shortfall . Because the very first time when it happened, the very first day when it happened, they said to me that everything looked good, its never a penny to penny. The next day, i came in front of the trainer, i said the next day, i came in front of the trainer, isaid i might geta the next day, i came in front of the trainer, isaid i might get a notice later on. I cautioned why i got a notice, i had been there all day. They told me not to worry, everything was good. Sorry to interrupt, so they then sent an auditor, am i right . What happened then . Very first after the month, i was just putting money in everyday. We cant carry on doing like this, i told them, we are losing money every day here. So she said we would get the first audit done, the first audit happened after three months after i took over. In the audit, they came over so i was very happy that they could put a stop to it. They came in instead of sorting everything out, despite me putting money in every day, they made another shortfall of £360. They gave mea warning, another shortfall of £360. They gave me a warning, they were like the mafia who gave me a warning. Any time im £500 short, the throw it away. And in the end they took you to court. In my right and that you pleaded guilty . Why . |j to court. In my right and that you pleaded guilty . Why . I didnt plead guilty to the theft. Even my first solicitors asked me so i can get a sentence, why should i plead guilty toa sentence, why should i plead guilty to a crime when i havent done it . So it was your solicitor that had suggested. Now you were pregnant at the time, werent you . I cant begin to think how stressful all that was for you. What impact did it have . M was the worst experience of my life. I was so scared, i was worried for my babys i was so scared, i was worried for my ba bys health. I was so scared, i was worried for my babys health. They had to take me to hospital because they had some issue with the baby and everything. It was the worst, worst, worst experience. It was a nightmare. Not just physically and emotionally, you name it, it was a stressful time. And you have a son who was 11. What will happen on his 11th birthday . On his tenth birthday, i was sentenced. I got his tenth birthday, i was sentenced. Igota his tenth birthday, i was sentenced. I got a judgement on his tenth birthday of a 15 month sentence. So what happened to you then . To be honest, i couldnt even believe it was happening. I was fighting all the way, i was trying to get justice. But then the jury came back with a verdict of guilty. So there was nothing that could be done. But when they said the news to me, it was like i was completely shocked. How could that happen . How can they just dashed justice be so blind . I was completely lost, they had to ta ke was completely lost, they had to take me to the hospital from the court. Even thinking about the court is giving me goose bumps, because i went to the core and never came back home. I understand. You have this criminal record now, are you hoping to get that cleared . Because presumably that has an impact on the other sorts of jobs presumably that has an impact on the other sorts ofjobs you might be able to get, am i right . Definitely all over. If i want to get something in high insurance, so many insurance i cant get because of the conviction, so i want to get paid. We were talking to nick wallace earlier, a journalist who has followed this case very closely, and he said he thinks each of you who have been affected in this might end up have been affected in this might end up with about £18,000 each. What is your reaction to that figure . Not sure yet what is happening. The next thing is getting paid, i dont know about what will happen and all that, but we are going for it. And what are you doing now . At the moment, not working. I couldnt work because of the criminal charges and false accounting, so i have nothing. I even applied to be rideshare driver, i couldnt even do that. That was refused to me because of the conviction. I was running a house on one income, it was really challenging, the last 1a years. Looking ahead, i just challenging, the last 1a years. Looking ahead, ijust wonder what your hopes for the future are . The next thing is to get my name cleared. We wish you well and we are very, very grateful for you taking the time to tell us your story. Thank you forjoining us on bbc news. Thank you very much, thank you. Now its time for a look at the weather with stav danaos. Hello there. It wasnt too bad today, there was quite a bit of dry and sunny weather around. A few showers though across scotland, which, again, will fall wintry over the high ground. It stays pretty chilly the next couple of days, and then midweek onwards, it will gradually turn milder, but, with it, wetter and windier, thanks to low pressure. And weve got low pressure tonight again across scotland, its going to bring blustery showers, falling snow on the hills. Across the southeast, this weather front will bring outbreaks of rain it, so less cold here than it will be through central and northern areas, clear skies here, might even see some frost, and also some pretty dense mist and fog patches forming. They could cause some problems across central areas through the morning rush, across the southeast, its a damp start. But the rain gradually petering out through the day, as with those showers across scotland. So it is a slow improvement into the afternoon, with increasing amounts of sunshine, but it will be another cold day. Wednesday looks largely dry with some sunshine, before wetter and windier weather arrives across the west. Thursday is looking milder but wetter and windier for all of us. Hello this is bbc news with rebecca jones. The headlines. More than 100 new conservative mps arrive in westminster, as Boris Johnson begins working towards delivering on his election promises. Its quite surreal, and, you know, i think the last time we remember these sort of things, its like the first day of school, isnt it . Here we go. Tonight, the Prime Minister has announced two cabinet appointments, simon becomes the new welsh exit took neck secretary, while retiring mp, nikki morgan, becomes a life peen mp, nikki morgan, becomes a life peer, and retains her brief culture secretary. In belfast, new talks are under way to try to restore the devolved government in Northern Ireland. Postmasters who say their lives were ruined by a flood Computer System have one a high court victory. Protests spread across india against a controversial new citizenship law. Indias Prime Minister appeals for calm. Around £15 million worth of jewellery is stolen it from the home of the formula 1 errors, tomorrow pakistan. Eris. Lets go back to that news now that the Prime Minister is announced two new cabinet appointments this evening, simon hart has become the new welsh secretary, while the retiring. And retains her role as culture secretary. 0ur political correspondent, iain watson is at westminster. Hardly a radical reshuffle, is it . What do we learn from these two cabinet ministers . Simon hart he has represented the well sheet for nine years, he was a former chief executive of the countryside, he is also pretty loyal to theresa may, when she was in downing street, but nonetheless, despite that, and being a remainer, he was given a Cabinet Office job under Boris Johnson, and he was given a Cabinet Office job under borisjohnson, and has now become welsh secretary following alan karens worst resignation at the very beginning of the election period. Nikki morgan, of course, the sentence, no change there. Shes continuing in the same job. Sentence, no change there. Shes continuing in the samejob. I suppose eyebrows are raised at the fa ct suppose eyebrows are raised at the fact that she said she would stand as an mp because of a couple of reasons, really, one was the pressure on a family life, which most mps are forced to live under, and also, she talked about the abuse that she and other mps were getting, particularly, of course, in the wake of the referendum results, and people pushing for that decision to be implemented. She felt under a huge amount of pressure, i suppose, now she doesnt have constituency case work to do, constituency surgeries, nonetheless, her dayjob, if you like, as culture secretary continues. She will have to take a look at some of the things that are coming up, but i think she will be pretty much across, i did look at the commons, she said she was going to be supportive of her successor. She succeeded herself at dc ms, so she will be aware that there is going to be a review, downing street thing into the tv licence, but mostly around decriminalization, rather than anything wider than that. She will be continuing i think with the work that shes already done. A whole range ofjunior ministers appointed as well, and again, if this is even a thing any longer, because obviously, they wont be elected to the new ma nifesto, wont be elected to the new manifesto, but there are jobs for long standing brexiters, but also some there for people like robin walker from the brexit minister, some there for people like robin walkerfrom the brexit minister, who had backed remain. So i think Boris Johnson is sending up a signal that he wants a broad based team, but i think we will see a much bigger reshuffle after brexit, after the 3ist reshuffle after brexit, after the 31st of january, thats reshuffle after brexit, after the 31st ofjanuary, thats i reshuffle after brexit, after the 31st of january, thats i think cabinet ministers know the next few months will have to be very much on their toes, they will have to make sure that they are at the top of their game, but for now, its really just filling gaps rather than actually doing radical restructuring of his government. , given that there wasnt much to talk about, im impressed with how much you had to say that. We have also seen today more than 100 conservative mps, and arriving in westminster, i would be interested in your take about what you think we can expect from the new conservative government in terms of tone and in terms of substance. Conservative government in terms of tone and in terms of substancelj tone and in terms of substance. think the tone may change, i came back from standing outside a reception of conservative mps addressed by Boris Johnson, reception of conservative mps addressed by borisjohnson, and one vetera n addressed by borisjohnson, and one veteran mp came out to tell me that it took him ten minutes to get a drink, he had never seen the place is packed is that in his parliamentary career since he first came here back in 1987, when mrs thatcher was per minister. Of course, if you remember, when the conservatives have had majority since then, the majority of 21, the majority of 12, to have a majority of 80 is pretty substantial, and the room was packed out tonight to listening to Boris Johnson, room was packed out tonight to listening to borisjohnson, a bit if you borisjohnsonjokes, listening to borisjohnson, a bit if you Boris Johnson jokes, he listening to borisjohnson, a bit if you borisjohnsonjokes, he said he turned red card to blue card for example the fountain of brexit was overflowing, but i think his serious message then was that the victory had changed the party and for the better. Talked about party, more in touch with some of its newest voters and putting trust in the conservatives for the first time in their life. So in terms of substance, we are going to see much more emphasis on investment in the north of england, and certainly a continued emphasis on the health service. Ian, lets talk about labour. We know thatJeremy Corbyn is planning to stay on as labour leader. I suppose the question is until when . What is the timetable in your view . We dont have a formal timetable yet, Labour National executive will draw that timetable up executive will draw that timetable up very early on injanuary. January the 6th or seventh. But, certainly the 6th or seventh. But, certainly the view from head office of the labour party, is that should it should all be over by the end of march, so that will be the timescale in which they will be discussing early in january. In which they will be discussing early injanuary. So in which they will be discussing early in january. So jeremy in which they will be discussing early injanuary. SoJeremy Corbyn would be basically moving on before may council elections, and this is something which some mps and certainly some Council Leaders are very keen to see. They want a new leader in place there, because some are saying if not, they may suffer the same fate at the local level as they suffered at the National Level last week. So that still gives you a contest of around three months, i think thats plenty of time for people to put their names forward, andi people to put their names forward, and i think it will be a split, if you like, between those who are trying to win over the existing membership, perhaps rebecca long bailey, if she declares on the left of the party, and those who are trying to bring people back into the labour party between now and then to try to get a vote of the contest in order to change the party to move it away from Jeremy Corbyn agenda. Theres an opportunity for people to register as supporters, and take pa rt register as supporters, and take part in an election, some of the other potential candidates, people such as jess other potential candidates, people such asjess phillips, i think, and lisa nandi will be certainly trying to go down that road, and not simply appeal to existing members, but to those who have perhaps left under Jeremy Corbyns leadership, or have not gotten involved in politics. Iain watson our correspondent in westminster, thanks. Now, the per minister has pledged to earn the trust of those former labour voters who helped provide him with a majority. And says he will govern for the whole country. 0ur correspondent, ed thomas, has been to the about a very conservative and p. Burnley one of the northern towns are turned from red to blue, all facing the same issues, poverty, low wages, and the struggle to find a place to call home. Take jordan and the struggle to find a place to call home. Takejordan and into the neat, desperate for someone to fix their lives, both in work on a zero hour contracts, living in a bedsit. Is that your number one priority, mix ofjobs . I mix ofjobs . , permanent employment. 90 hour contracts, like that. Have you got hope that borisjohnsons conservatives can lift you guys out of this . Absolutely, yes. Absolutely. There is a growing to do list from the roads to the buses, and significant across the north of england improving our railways. What needs to happen to make our trains better . On time and enough carriages. Today, new northern timetable, and with it, the predictable cancellations. The trains are used to get when i was a kid, im still getting them. The radley old things with dubious bits of water floating on the floor, and radley windows and heating vents on in the summer, not necessarily on in the winter. Its pathetic and a joke. The scale of the challenge to level up our transport network is revealed in the numbers. In london, spending per head is over £900, falling across the north, with just £276 in york sure. And then theres the nhs. £276 in york sure. And then theres the nhs. Yorkshire. A promise of tens of thousand more nurses, madeline and pat spend most of their working lives in this hospital. You will make you have wonderful nurses, wonderful doctors, the need to be treated well and if we dont get that, will you hold this government to account . We will, yes. After years of austerity, and underinvestment, the story of this town can be heard across the north of england, the midlands, and whales. And the people, so long on the margins, expect to be listened to. Ed thomas, bbc news, burnley. A treat for you now, over the last 5a yea rs, treat for you now, over the last 5a years, Michael Billington has been casting his eye and his pen over the british theatre scene. Hes written nearly 10,000 reviews, and this friday, the curtain comes down on one of the most illustrious critical careers we have ever seen. Im very pleased to say that Michael Billington isjoining us now, thank you for coming in to talk to us. Why are you stepping down . Well, age is one thing, im 80 this year. Just 80. When you are 80, it becomes a bit more effort to rush to meet a deadline. I mean, very briefly, i have to get up very early in the morning to find my copy by 9 30 a m. , that means getting up at six or whatever, by the my age, its a big begins to be a bit tiring. That seems reasonable. If my math is right for me took of the post at 1971. Big question, but how has theatre changed in that time . Enormously. I would say the big thing at the moment is theatre is much more representative as who we are as a nation, one is gender, when i started ready for the guardian, why are there no women dramatists . Look around today, and most of them are the best dramatists are women of course. You know, people like laura wade, and lucy kirkwood. So, you know, thats a Huge Positive change i think the other change is in ethnicity. In other words, plays by and about to black and asian people, which are attracting audiences that match the subject of the place, just in the last week, i have seen a production of Three Sisters at the national theatre, which is in the context of theatre, which is in the context of the african work, and a royal court about multiculturalism in modern britain, and the marriage in a mixed race marriage and so forth. I mean, i would say, those are the two most positive gains in my lifetime. Dare i ask you, do think there have been any negative changes . i ask you, do think there have been any negative changes . I think some things for example, i think classic theatre is not as robust or as diverse as it once was. What you mean by that . Shakespeare. I think we often say why are we doing shakespeare, and if we are doing it, we have do in some extremely eccentric way. I think there is less ease with the classics than there used to be. They were a staple part of the repertoire when i started reviewing you know, everything from the greeks up to, you know, check off, right now, we have to be. As they were intended. So i think new rating fantastically rich diverse and buoyant classical theatre a bit less so at the moment. Thats interesting. How have plays changed, i was thinking about the form, because it seems to me, going to the theatre, weve got quite a lot of 90 minutes straight through without an interval, which can be quite nice. But also some very very long plays as well. I thank you are absolutely right. I think people want an experience, they want an event when they go to the theatre, and i can be several things can either be something very tight, focused, concentrated, claustrophobic, you know, you have this intense atmosphere for 90 minutes and then you come out discussing it. Or, you are enlisted to a play, you dont just go, you are enlisted for six or seven hours, like inheritance. You know, three and half hour plays, virtually. It gets back to nicholas nickleby, the mammoth plays, audiences like that sense of something epic. I do something epic or something intimate. Whats less fashionable is the two and a half hour play with an interval. The interval, the three acts exactly. I wa nted interval, the three acts exactly. I wanted to ask you about the acting. How has that changed, because i dont know whether you would agree with me, in some ways i wonder if has become a little bit more naturalistic. I think every generation regards itself as naturalistic. Do you . Its overturning with the previous generation did. They broadly, i would say, when i started, there was a kind of heroic acting embodied by laurence olivier, that voice, that personality, he embodied the heroic in the human animal, as did in a different way, women like edith evans and peggy ashcroft, i would say the acting today is much cooler, its more ironic, its more intellectual, i think we have a whole new generation of incredibly intellectually bright and often graduate actors, i mean, im thinking of people like Simon Russell beale, juliet stevenson, that generation who are very clever and witty, and i think they are very good at it. Exploring the texts. I mean, there is a loss and gain, it a lwa ys mean, there is a loss and gain, it always changes. Michael, took off on always changes. Michael, took off on a slight tangent, if you were to review the election, what would have gone your review . Oh, gosh. Welcome the thing about drama is its about just make welcome the thing about drama is its aboutjust make equal forces, and, you know, you wait on ted talks for the outcome, that didnt happen in this election, it seemed to me. Election night, quite obviously, ten oclock, the drama was finished. 0nce oclock, the drama was finished. Once we saw the exit polls you know, we knew the results, and all the people watching it, it was a process. So i thought it lacked drama, and it didnt like surprise, but it lacked drama. Tension. Thats the proper word. Norm was on the edge of their seat at ten oclock. So that was disappointing. And i thought the actual leaders debates, if we want to get into that, was disappointing. Because everybody these days are on the message, and lea ps these days are on the message, and leaps or programmes, arent they . Not to make a mistake, not to make a gaffe, not to Say Something that hasnt been anticipated, and that leads, i think to sort of stability within those debates. Yes, and if you were to choose a shakespeare character for the current political leaders, who would you go for . Oh, gosh. Borisjohnson leaders, who would you go for . Oh, gosh. Boris johnson i leaders, who would you go for . Oh, gosh. Borisjohnson i think would be faster and 12th night from his the common 12 night, but also a corrupt of words, which seems to fit borisjohnson. Jeremy corbyn, possibly, i dont know, a senior version of hamlet, a character who cannot quite make up his mind about crucial issues, and whose fatal indecision leads to a pile up at the end, you know . So maybe that would fit him. Thats a bit like corbyn. Michael, we will miss you, but you are not giving up completely, are you . Know, im going to write regular monthly pieces for the guardian, thank goodness. Thank you, Michael Billington, its been a pleasure talking you. Thank you so much for coming in, thanks. Water companies in england and wales have been ordered to cut prices by an average of £50 a year by 2025. The water regulator also says that firms must reduce leaks and cut Carbon Emissions. Our Business Correspondent theo leggett explains what lead to todays decision. Well, on the one hand it has a difficultjob to do, and the other hand, theyve got to make sure that Water Companies are spending and are preparing for the future, so, for example, building new reservoirs in case of drought, setting up flood defences, and reducing their Carbon Emissions come at the same time, it has to make sure that customers get a good deal, that they are not being overcharged, and that the companies themselves make a reasonable rate of return. And in the past, the accusation has been that that balance has been wrong, that Water Companies have been making a lot of profits, but havent been offering to him in some cases, at least, the best service. So, for example, the water a couple years ago was fined £20 million for not doing enough to address leaks, so now it says that once those companies to toughen up. It wants them to become more efficient to spend £13 billion investing for the future, and at the same time, cut customers bills by what will become as you say, an average of £50 a year between 20202025.
