Emily thornberry threatning legal action against a former colleague. In belfast, new talks are under way, to try to restore the devolved government, in Northern Ireland. Postmasters who say their lives were ruined by a flawed Computer System, have won a high court victory. And later in the hour, around £50 million worth ofjewellery is stolen from the home of the formula one heiress Tamara Ecclestone. Its 5 oclock were live at westminster where the mps elected last thursday have been gathering all day at the start of a week which will include a queens speech and the passage of borisjohnsons brexit deal. The Prime Minister will address his parliamentary colleagues this evening 109 of them new members many from areas traditionally held by labour. Meanwhile the fallout from labours defeat continues with Party Officials saying they are expected to meet early in the new year to agree the timetable for replacing Jeremy Corbyn as leader. More on that shortly. But first, this report from our Political Correspondent helen catt reports. On their way to westminster tory mps still over the moon at having turned the red seats blue. Bye thank you its the start of a newjourney for them and possibly for the conservative party too. The arrival of so many mps representing new seats could change the governments focus. Its already swelled its ranks, bringing its majority to 80. Its like its actually happening, lets get things done. So yeah, mega excited. Its a lot of pressure, its a bit daunting, but i think were alljust really excited to get in there and just get started. Its quite surreal and you know, i think the last time you remember these sort of things, its first day at big school, isnt it . And here we go. The new mps will get help, but not much time to settle in. Tomorrow, they will be formally sworn in, then on thursday there will be a queens speech, setting out the governments plans for the next year and by friday they will be debating major policies, as its expected the eu Withdrawal Agreement bill will be reintroduced. Youve a Prime Minister who has a very big mandate from the british public, we have a majority in parliament, which enables him to get things done. That message im sure will not have been lost on our european friends and partners, they can see that there is a stable government now in the uk at long last, with a very big mandate, with the public behind the Prime Minister and i would expect european leaders now to want to work productively with the Prime Minister and the negotiating team that he will assemble. The government wants to be seen to be acting swiftly and decisively on brexit, but its also keen to show that it listened to what voters told it last thursday, particularly those who lent the conservatives their vote. That means acting on areas like the nhs so thursdays queens speech will include a commitment to upping its annual budget by tens of billions of pounds over the parliament and enshrining that in law. Hi, morning. For some more familiar conservative faces, its already back to work. Including some who were notably absent during the campaign. The election wasnt about me, it was a choice between the Prime Minister and Jeremy Corbyn and the country made their choice and a wonderful choice they have made. In downing street, the chancellor was certainly sounding confident. The peoples government. This afternoon will add some more faces to it as empty places in the cabinet are filled. Lets talk a little bit more about the timetable notjust for today but for the week coming up. Jonathan blake is with me. Can we start with the government . The range of activity and what they are preparing at the moment, and indeed are we likely to see any appointments, ministerial appointments today . We are expecting appointments today, not quite it can reshuffle but gaps to fill. Zac goldsmith, the environment minister that lost his seat to nikki morgan, the culture secretary that stood down. Those jobs with which we were expecting to hear about already but some news will no doubt come before the end of the day all about who will be stepping into those roles and then in the new year will see a more wide ranging reshuffle of the cabinet which will give us more of an idea of the shape and style of borisjohnsons an idea of the shape and style of Boris Johnsons government. As for the rest of the week, and peace being sworn in in the house of commons tomorrow may run into wednesday because theres so many new ones to get to. On thursday that queens is to be stripped back a bit, not what the level that we usually see but that will give us the government Incentive Programme for the rest of this parliament from a front and centre to that Withdrawal Agreement bill into uk law, and then we expect or lease the government hopes to build a put that in front of the house of commons on friday for its first major vote and debate. What about the opposition front bench because clearly thats an essential role in terms of the queen speech and indeed the withdrawal bill, whats the state of play on the labour benches at the moment . Bill, whats the state of play on the labour benches at the moment7m does not look good for them in the weight of that crushing defeat last week. The recriminations and follow of that have continued into the weekend and into this week. Jeremy corbyn still the leader of the liberal party and wants to remain in place for what he would like to be a period of reflection, but frankly it is descending into some ugly infighting and certainly among some high profile members of the labour party, not only recriminations over who is to blame and whetherJeremy Corbyn and those around him have accepted enough of the blame and responsibility for the level of defeats at the labour party severed but also today Emily Thornberry, the shadow foreign secretary heading back against caroline flint, the yorkshire mp that lost her seat that apparently said that Emily Thornberry suggested her constituents were stupid, she denies that and out taking legal action against her former colleague. Caroline flint was told by somebody else that i had spoken to somebody else. That person, unknown. And when, unknown. And where, unknown. And she still wont, you know, tell us. That people were supposed to be stupid. I would never even think that, let alone say it, its a complete lie so, ive said to caroline, come on, caroline, this isnt true, you know, withdraw it, and ill give you until the end of the day. And she refuses to, so i have to go through all the hassle of instructing solicitors, and thats all were doing we are having to take legal action. And clearly a real sense of anger and bitterness in that exchange. What about the wider picture about the in the way the party tackles its leadership gap wheneverJeremy Corbyn decides to step down . Do we have any sense of a timetable for that . The current timetable it seems is that the contest will get under way and probably the first week of january around the sixth or seventh at approximately 12 weeks after that. Sojeremy at approximately 12 weeks after that. So Jeremy Corbyn well, as at approximately 12 weeks after that. SoJeremy Corbyn well, as it stands, stay imposed for that period when no deputy leader to step in because tom watson quit at the beginning of the campaign and so we are yet to hear from many of the prospective candidates who are formally throwing their hats into the ring, one been speaking to gate say she still making up her mind about the job of rebuilding the party and the coalition of the older and more traditional working class heart lands and the new metropolitan younger support base that Jeremy Corbyn helped bring into the party can be rebuilt and the other contenders are on can be rebuilt and the other contenders are on the left of your picture there, in the centre here starmer and picture there, in the centre here starmerand emily picture there, in the centre here starmer and Emily Thornberry, and agree for a second referendum which is the blessing or curse dipping or you think the party should be heading, and then on the rightjust philips the outspoken labour mp and a critic ofJeremy Corbyn who might be seen as the wild card entry by some. That is, i think my late will agree to be the shape of the field of the likely candidates we see. Thank you very much. Talk a little bit later on as well. Im joined by some of this years new intake of mps sam tarry, labourmp for ilford south, he took the seat from mike gapes who defected from labour to join the independent group for change and Richard Holden conservative mp for Durham North West a seat that turned blue for the first time in its history. First to say to you both, congratulations. And its good to have you with us here just as you start on your parliamentary careers. When i start with you, in terms of a tone thats been struck in this campaign which lots of people across the board have considered to be aggressive if not unpleasant at times. Do you sense that we are going to enter a period of debate which is going to be more conciliatory, do you think Boris Johnsons promised to run things as the one ish and conservative will see us the one ish and conservative will see us stricking a different note . |j think see us stricking a different note . think borisjohnson see us stricking a different note . think Boris Johnson is see us stricking a different note . think borisjohnson is absolutely right to pursue one nation approach, it works on doorsteps in northwest durham, i they people rejected in general election was the divisive politics ofJeremy Corbyn and labour party, secondly they wanted people to honour the referendum and to deliver brexit which is exactly what we will do. And i think thirdly a lot of the areas were around me where theres lots of new conservative mps elected and often the first time in their history. Mps really challenging their communities and challenging government for their communities not taking the serious for granted which i think they have seen for a long time. From your point of view, sam, where do you wa nt point of view, sam, where do you want labour to be heading now, Jeremy Corbett has said he wants to ta ke Jeremy Corbett has said he wants to take the party to another general election and so at some point there will be a leadership contest. Do you wa nt to will be a leadership contest. Do you want to see a leader who will do things very differently and leader who would lead an Election Campaign which would look and sound very different to the one that we have just seen or the policy principles we re just seen or the policy principles were the right ones . just seen or the policy principles were the right ones . I think in terms of the policy principles theres not many things i would support there are many things i would support. People voted for brexit in the first place and then punish labour by basically lending their vote to the conservatives. It was a long period of neglect in terms of Financial Investment in Manufacturing Industry slipping away to her former communities in real pride as working class communities having the dignity stripped away over a long period of time and i think we paid the price for that clearly and i have to be honest, i just dont believe the Economic Transformation those communities need will be delivered of under a conservative government. We will see is those people are even more angry and frustrated than they are. And i hope with the right leadership and programme we will be able to win back those people that left us at this election. But a leadership that continues the broad principles and direction of the corbyn leadership or someone direction of the corbyn leadership or someone notably and markedly different in terms of what theyre saying or what they are offering . Im just trying to gauge where you think the party should be travelling here. I think we need to learn the lessons of the election. A whole range of issues in terms of the presentation and some policies that perhaps were not necessarily put forward in the best way. For my point of view almost became what we are saying too much given to much to people despite being well costed but i would say this, i think one of the things i felt deeply unsettled by at the selection was the extreme level of negativity not just the selection was the extreme level of negativity notjust in the media but also the conservative party. Some of the barefaced lies essentially, an independent Fact Checking organisation that said the conservative party online ads, 88 we re conservative party online ads, 88 were just literally incorrect, and to have an election thats just purely driven on lies i think is very dangerous precedent, and i really doubt that are going to see this delivery of a one mission conservative that brings the country back together, what my view is the government whose track record was not doing much working class communities, demonising refugees and migrants added even more polarised country over the years to come and thats a very dangerous and quite frankly frightening. The reason i mentioned the one Mission Theme was to do with the visions and as you know im just wondering what you have the Prime Minister will do that is different that will deliver what he says he wants witches heal divisions which divisions some will know are still very deep in this country. Ive glad he acknowledged that it will bring the country back together and thats what the country want. More investment in Public Services investment in hospitals and they want to see record funding for schools, they want to see more police and they know i can only be delivered with a Strong Economy which supports the Public Services which supports the Public Services which taxes the private sector and fund the public sector. For labour not to acknowledge that the problem that they need to address, that tone around how they deal with the private sector i think it shows that they are not learning the lessons of they are not learning the lessons of the selection at this moment in time. It is the conservatives who with a positive one nation approach Going Forward in winning seats across the country and we will deliver for local people. If labour dont learn those lessons that i think they are in for another shock ina few think they are in for another shock in a few years time. Theres clearly a leadership issue which we can all debate but when policy is protested massive increased investment in the Health Service which labour is putting forward even paid for by some higher taxes the public seem to like that policy, so its not as if the policy issue was off putting for people, i think so may take a different view but they did not seem to like the way that this was being packaged up and indeed there was an element of dislike of the leadership as well. Definitely an element of dislike of the leadership of theres also the policy put forward an element of a credibility gap there as well. With the conservatives offered as well. With the conservatives offe re d wa s as well. With the conservatives offered was a good package of education, health care, Public Services and something that is also acknowledging that you have to have acknowledging that you have to have a thriving politics. What labour fell down was that they were seem to be spreading money around with no real idea of where it was going to come from. And nobody on the doorstep believed that there were not going to be paying much higher taxes as normal working people in order to pay for those. Thats Election Debate we have had the result and youve made lots of promises at a party and people work measure you against your delivery of that. Against the clock, we will be very unfairand that. Against the clock, we will be very unfair and say to you, have you made your mind up and whats in your view the best labour leader . Absolutely not. Its far too soon can we have a proper period of reflection that we need to understand and how we win back seats like durham, we also need to make sure we have a strategy that enables us to have a coalition so we have the working class communities we need to win back and working class communities in big cities that still solidly support labour. Theres almost no go zones for tories now in london but from my point of view thats no good of losing fast ways of places across the country. At the moment ive not heard analysis from anyone thats come forward that connects to tackle that conundrum. And thats the important thing i think. Good to talk to you both. Im sure we will talk more in the months to come but good luck. We hope you enjoy it as well because you have a very important job to enjoy it as well because you have a very importantjob to do. New talks have been under way in belfast to try to restore devolved government in Northern Ireland where the main unionist and republican parties are under pressure to Work Together again. Our ireland correspondent chris page is at stormont. Whats your sense of the momentum there if there is momentum . Yes, i think when you look at whats been said today compared with previous rounds of negotiations which have of course all failed over the last three years, you do get a sense that perhaps this time there is a greater opportunity for an agreement to restore the power sharing devolved government, it was january 2017 the last time that the assembly here sad, it fell apart because of the huge rabble between the power sharing partners of the democratic unionists and sinn fein. They began the talks process and new negotiations by meeting with the five main parties here with the politicians attending and included the dup leader who will still be in line to be first minister if a deal is reached. The sinn fein leader also there along with the leaders of the Alliance Party comes across Community Party and the nationalist stl p. Those talks, mr smith said he was heartened by the discussions, he said that he believed the message had come across loud and clear for voters in the general Election Campaign and the continued absence was not sustainable. He pointed up the hill at this building and said it was an empty symbol of the good friday agreements, the peace agreements had promised much in that the spirit of that agreement had to be restorative with the power sharing institutions. During the Election Campaign there remains the Election Campaign there remains the two biggest parties in Northern Ireland but both of those parties took a hit in terms of the overall number of votes that they received. Sinn fein had the same number as last time, seven but in overall terms they failed from the dup lost two of their ten mps. Many people are reading that now is a message coming from the electorate that simply is years of paralysis are not good enough, that devolved government has to resume. The Public Services here are under increasing strain, the Health Service in particular, new figures released during the campaign which underlined the fact that Northern Ireland had the fact that Northern Ireland had the longest hospital waiting times in the uk by far. More than 100,000 people here waiting to see a consultation for more than a year. Gives you deceptive in impact the lack of government had here so it gives it a sense of the pressure politicians are now under to try to finally get a deal. The deadline for these talks the of january. Thank you. Our ireland correspondent there. Lets get the thoughts now of some more new mps new to the house of commons in 2019, daisy cooper, liberal democrat mp for st albans who overturned a conservative majority to become the citys first lib dem mp, and dave doogan, Scottish National party mp for angus who also unseated a conservative candidate. Im going to congratulate you both on your victories, well done. And to issue here well done in your work, because the very important session coming out. First of all giving your pa rtys coming out. First of all giving your partys im going to say challenging time during the election and on results night what are you going to be able to say to viewers about what you can credibly achieve in this Parliament Given that you are not the force you once were . We had a very successful year up to the general election, 32 of the National Polls and did extremely well electing 16 members of the European Parliament and we still hold the same values. Continue to champion our open internationalist and tolerant country that we want to be and in parliament over the last two and a half years liberal democrats have led cross party effo rts democrats have led cross Party Efforts with her thats to get people to vote or in on other issues. Whilst just 11 mps people to vote or in on other issues. Whilstjust 11 mps we will build alliances across the house to make sure i presence is very much known. Is this someone emerging in your view as a potential leader . Not just yet. Those of us who are new need to dig into our constituencies, a lot of work to do for my part i know that ive got 100 organisations i want to contact my first 100 days, the collection we want to drive for a local food bank the collection we want to drive for a localfood bank in the new the collection we want to drive for a local food bank in the new year need to focus this week and in the near scrutinising the governments on the report of russian interference as well as the Withdrawal Agreement bill. In a few weeks or months to nine we might start to focus in the future of the party. As you sayjust a very busy week. And the Withdrawal Agreement bill coming up, and i suppose the other questions for you given the s p strong of performance on thursday, the first minister talking about the issue of a mandate given that lots of people were talking about borisjohnson public mandate with his majority of 18 or so in the house of commons, she considers that she certainly has a mandate on behalf of the people of scotla nd mandate on behalf of the people of scotland and one of the issues she wa nts to scotland and one of the issues she wants to tackle is the issue of a second referendum. Do you foresee some kind of class coming up constitutionally between edinburgh and london on this . At the rhetoric is there from Boris Johnson that is not interested and exceeds the will of the scottish people and to the polls on scotland on thursday and can be very emphatic result. The giddiness parties were thoroughly rejected the s p made substantial gains. 80 of the skates in scotland are now in the hands of the s p was up are now in the hands of the s p was up her independence and reject brexit. Its very clear that people of scotland are pursuing a different path of the rest of the uk. Nicola sturgeon and us as a group of mps are givena sturgeon and us as a group of mps are given a voice to the electric decision. Its as simple as that. When you talk about a voice at westminster, up at this point to the first minister, you see images there of the new mps, thats the former mep, alan smith. Exactly. Does the images today, when i spoke to the first minster in the early hours of friday morning she was, and basically said you have this very strong presence of the house, if youre up against the government with this majority of 18 you can shout as loud as you like but will be able to do much. It surely one of theissues be able to do much. It surely one of the issues that she will now have to deal with. It the issues that she will now have to dealwith. It almost the issues that she will now have to deal with. It almost sounds like a case for independence that scotland can send as many mps down here as we like but we dont ever really get a voice in the policy direction of the United Kingdom, but gets back to first principles, borisjohnson public party in scotland had one single issue on the literature, they fought this election entirely on getting brexit done and stopping this and they were thoroughly rejected. Lost more than half their seats. On this issue of the whole brexit concept of getting it done, to what extent do you think people will need to be guided if you like in the sense that leaving is just one milestone and that getting it donein one milestone and that getting it done in the fullest possible sense of that phrase could take a decade . It could take a decade and we have some issues to sort out can we have free trade agreements to make of the de or the us, the a0 agreements that come from 70 countries, all of those have to be negotiated. We have not worked out protection for you citizens, is a big pot of money thats used to support the most Vulnerable People and society but those that are not in the system and is currently no replacement for that European Social fund whatsoever, theres a huge metal work that needs to be done and a huge amount of work that will happen after that. Liberal democrats absolutely clear, we will lead to the efforts to scrutinise every single step that this conservative government takes. Just a personal question, what is it like to be, you are here to represent your constituents and to do that, what does it feel like when you turn up what does it feel like when you turn up here at westminster as a newly elected mp, what are your emotions when you stepped up here today and get into the logistics of organising an office and the whole rest of it, what did it feel like . Up and chomping at the bit to get started. Enjoyable and daunting orjust enjoyable how are you feeling . Very enjoyable how are you feeling . Very enjoyable and great fun beating all of the new liberal democrat mps but of the new liberal democrat mps but of the new liberal democrat mps but of the get a new mps from also to different parties and talking to them as well, seems to be quite at this stage at least, seems to be a level of congeniality amongst new mps. What about you, you are here and represented your people across all parties because you represent all parties because you represent all constituents are brothers of the way they voted. Was her sense of arriving here because this is westminster, you are a believer in independence, and the sovereignty of holly road and parliament, do you have mixed feelings attending this parliament . I like all of my s p colleagues and im first and foremost a pragmatist. We are still in the United Kingdom and if you wa nt in the United Kingdom and if you want to transact the people cosmic wishes that we have to come here to do it. Thats what im here to do. Im in the fortunate position as well as my other s p colleagues that transport Health Education in all theseissues transport Health Education in all these issues are decided upon at edinburgh, but we have some very important issues to transact not least of which from my its issuance is the Seasonal Agricultural workers situation, i have a job to do here to discuss with ministers how on earth we change the litter chris cap on Agricultural Workers to protect agriculture and not just an angus but across scotland and the whole of the United Kingdom because whats driving that cap is a very different narrative about immigration than that which exists in scotland and i think we need to all of us from different parties need to breaking things down. Just one element of the Brexit Debate that will go on and i shouldve said given my past experience of meeting new mps, have you sorted it out and given you an office yet . Looking at one in about half an hour. Im lucky have got my office and i have to see if i could and actually about two oclock the palm entry staff have been outstanding. Fully equipped with my e mail, it and really done a super job. They are extremely good. I wish you both well. That is a safe, touching some incredibly important issues so good luck. Nice to have you with us. With that very dark and actually slightly damp westminster, tell us whats going on. Damages the across the southeast corner of the country. As weve been hearing, many of the 109 new conservative mps won in areas traditionally held by labour. The Prime Minister has thanked voters in the north of england for backing the conservatives saying they had changed the conservative party for the better and he would repay their trust. But what needs to be done to boost infrastructure, improve transport links and save the high streets . With me is barry white, chief executive of transport for the north which represent 20 local transport bodies across the north of england, and Arianna Giovannini is in salford, shes the director of ippr north, a left wing think tank focused on the north of england. Very good to have you with us. What is on the top of the list when you look at the needs and Boris Johnson is talking about meeting Economic Needs and social needs. But as of the top of the list . The top of the list for us is, Infrastructure Investment in that prioritisation, we need to move the commitment to make projects ready and have them delivered and that is what we want to work with this government to do to work with this government to do to work with this government to do to work towards that prioritisation make sure it happens. We talk about projects, your tongue but things like high profile things. The attractor and controversy. You talk about the. Not some of the major metropolitan centres, and give our viewers and examples about the kind of thing that youre talking about. There are some very big projects that we have lined up, we wa nt projects that we have lined up, we want them to be delivered in full, big projects to let the major cities of the north economically transformed the northern economy and in addition to that, our long term investment, we have set out a whole range of projects and to give you some examples. The cumbrian coastline, redoing the rail line along the cumbrian coast in the 866 improvements, the crossing, the Central Manchester rail improvements, projects like that, Central Manchester is absolutely key to journeys across the north, Getting Better and better helps people get home at night reliably and on time. These are absolutely critical projects and really important peoples day today lives. Can ask you and your perspective, given that barry is giving us a list there of things. Does that make sense to you and what would you add to that list in terms of priorities as far as the new government is concerned . Library is saying makes complete sense. The government seems to be focusing on the north stage way straightaway. Put into the northern infrastructure it is absolutely crucial and this is a very important opportunity to make sure that years and years of rhetoric are translated into action. We need to see from day one the government take action. It is very important to see investment in transportation in the north, but equally, we also need to see devolution of powers to Northern Leaders so it can take control of the north transport network and the economy at large and put into practice through transformative policies that are needed. When talking to leaders in the northern region, to what extent is the conservative party committed to the process . Conservative party committed to the process . Is a commitment to an english devolution and we really need to see that happening straightaway, as soon, we need to see it turn into a project that benefits all areas across the north, notjust the big cities but all the towns as well. That has to happen in the north, but the research has shown that in our country, we see a huge regional inequality. Over centralisation is the root cause of this. Devolution is crucial that we change this and we find a way to address these inequalities because local leaders a better place to make decisions that affect their communities. Making the point of the need for major investment in more devolution of powers too to cities and regions from westminster. I do not think it is clear to what the conservatives of bought into that process or the scale of it. From your point of view, coming out of the selection, you have seen somebody so many former labour members, but the reason behind that is they are quite simply fed up that they have not been receiving investment that you have been talking about and do you think people are more interested in seeing a huge injection of money in the Health Service, which could utilise funding. Everyone knows that this been struggling and in that case, there will be far less available for projects like massive road improvements or the come cumbrian coastline project. Revenue funding and the project we are putting forward and by investing, whether it be the big projects or the other projects, these will all help boost opportunities. They talked about putting a special pot of money to help the breach and cuts, and getting a Passenger Rail service, things that really affect peoples opportunities to be able to get a ccess peoples opportunities to be able to get access tojob peoples opportunities to be able to get access to job markets that would otherwise be denied to them. I think it is really good for the economy, the pipeline of investment. Final point, will you were conducting the research during the Election Campaign, what were you deducting the peoples reasonings for choosing the peoples reasonings for choosing the way that they are possibly going to vote, but based on their needs. What are peoples practical needs in the areas that we are talking about . I think that transport, improving transport is one of the major needs because transport impacts the way people access tojobs because transport impacts the way people access to jobs and Public Services. So obviously transport and the north at the moment is an issue, there needs to be addressed urgently. There needs to be jobs for people across the north so that should be, certainly another issue thatis should be, certainly another issue that is felt across the north. And perhaps brexit played a part in that also. We will see how that pans i will be here the queen speech on thursday. Thank you very much for joining us. Postmasters who claim their lives were ruined by a flawed Computer System have won a significant high court victory. Problems with the horizon system led to some of them being convicted and jailed forfraud and false accounting. Thejudge ruled the horizon system wasnt robust, opening the way for the postmasters to overturn their convictions. Last week, the post office said it would pay almost 58 Million Pounds to some of those affected by the it problems. Lord arbuthnot, the former defence minister, took up the sub postmasters case against the post office. I have met a lot of the postmasters that are concerned. Some have been made bankrupt, some have been sent to jail, some of them have been divorced and lost their families having lived in a four bedroom house they found themselves sleeping in their cars. There is talk of at least one of them having committed suicide. This has been utterly devastating, life changing things for these people were often the pillars of their communities. I am glad the reputation has been restored now. But, it is shocking what is happened to them. The water regulator in england and wales has ordered suppliers to cut the average bill by 50 pounds over the next five years. Ofwat says firms must also reduce leaks by 16 per cent as part of an efficiency drive. Water companies had previously warned they could challenge such demands. Thieves have reportedly stolen 50 Million Pounds worth ofjewellery from the home of Tamara Ecclestone in london. She was on holiday at the time. The daughter of the former formula 1 boss, bernie ecclestone, was said to be shaken and angry after the robbery on friday night. Jon donnison reports from the street in kensington where the theft took place. £50 million of jewellery £50 million ofjewellery stolen. The billionaires room, where the most exclusive neighbourhoods in the country. More than 50 rooms. They say on friday night, they were called out to a burglaryjust after 11 oclock and they say that an amount of high value jewellery was stolen. They see no arrests have been made at the moment. A spokesperson for the family has said that they are shaken and angry, they we re that they are shaken and angry, they were not actually there at the time because they had travelled overseas on holiday for the christmas holidays. It clearly a pretty audacious heist. Several big embassies, including the Israeli Embassy comes a very high security of police of the bottom of the row in the house itself have pretty high security and the newspaper is reporting that three of the thieves got to the back of the property and then went through the house and found safes with this jewellery inside, but £50 million, that is a huge heist, hard to think of a robbery of the scale anywhere in the world. In the last few minutes the bank of England Governor Mark carney has been speaking about the results of the annual stress test of the uk Banking System and specifically how it will survive brexit lets hear what he had to say. Turning to brexit, they will provide a high level update on the economic prospects this thursday. The job is to focus and prepare for worst case risk, including those that could be associated with disorderly forms of brexit. However unlikely. We will continue tojudge that brexit. However unlikely. We will continue to judge that the Financial System is ready for brexit in whatever form it takes and reflecting extensive preparation made by authorities in the private sector, most risk to uk Financial Stability that could arise from disruption of cross Border Financial Services if a new deal brexit has been mitigated. No deal. As pariament resumes tomorrow and mps are sworn in, what can we expect in the weeks ahead . With me now are stephen bush, Political Editor of the new statesman and anne mcelvoy, Senior Editor of the economist. Would i want to do, is to take us through, and party terms what is going on. Because there is in the Big Questions there for quite a few of the parties. Im going to store the conservatives and elster with you which is, i will start with you. Borisjohnson strikes a different tone than a lot of his colleagues, do you think theyll be reflected in the kind of content we will have in the speech this week or do you think is a bit of a windowdressing . I think he knows that he needs to put some flesh on the bone. People will twist the definition however they like, but with a huge amount of votes and seats that he has one in the north of england in areas that have not voted conservative before, it would bea voted conservative before, it would be a big waste of an opportunity if it does not bring these ideas together. When nation conservatism has become associated with european conservatism and that was a divide in which he felt very clearly not on that side. So theyre still quite a lot of people that Left Parliament either on their own terms or not as a result of the event to be covering for six months. If you are a when nation tory, yet they have a very self brexit could see that argument will continue to nag away at him. He will continue to nag away at him. He will try to open it up and say i can do other things, but then this is all about spending, at this point does it become like a light form of labour. Boris johnson is does it become like a light form of labour. Borisjohnson is a very big Strategic Decisions to make. Has some very big. It is the key question and the queen speech is pa rt question and the queen speech is part of this, which is to say and ask, what kind of Prime Minister is he going to be in terms of his outlook . Is he going to be reaching outlook . Is he going to be reaching out more widely than people mightve expected and what kind of government is he going to lead and from what you picked up what is your take on that . The promises made and some this the guy whos going to be an economic liberal and when you talk to those people now, they are the ones who looked very disappointed, you talk to the civil service, you talk to people in downing street and the people in government are going to see what he tries to be much more kind of state and free spending and are trying to do that and at the same time taking us of the Customs Union and Single Market. The big question is notjust what he wants to be but to the economics of that actually add up. Can he be free spending and spent over £2 billion of the nhs, leave the Customs UnionSingle Market and reduce our debt pile. I think one of those things is going to have to give. Let us talk about teamwork and the individuals. Let us talk of the big reshuffle and there are some jobs to be filled already. There are manyjobs to be filled. If he leaves sajid javid in place, im not in any way, if he leaves those in place, precious little will change in terms of tone and direction. Or am i misunderstanding it . He is going to leave him in place, and, Boris Johnson has said, i think she will think twice on moving her out of the home office because she stands for a harder line on immigration. He is more liberal on immigration than she is and she is the voice of the table arguing to be tough and he was a lot more labour based, im not so sure about dominic, he may not even need him any more. You could argue of declining importance. Not really in the run up to brexit. Or wavering the run up to brexit. Or wavering the cabinet, i thinkjobs like business, anything to do with business, anything to do with business and trade, and the right hands might end up as a competing passage in the Foreign Office stop the shape of the team with portfolios outside of the big three which actually have express your concerns, but we look at the opposite, the opposition bench when do you expect a new labour to be in place and are you expected to tell who you think has a fair wind behind them . Was that simply not predictable at this point . them . Was that simply not predictable at this point . I think the consensus in the labour party, among the trade unions is the loss of money theyll have to go to other parties because they get less of it. We want a fairly quick election, to get it over with by march. It will be the membership largely that backed Jeremy Corbyn will be difficult to see how others will we nt difficult to see how others will went over that electorate. I think it is going to be a three quarter fight between cheers, they have drawn the timeline so short and the publication that supports the jeremy short and the publication that supports theJeremy Corbyn project and the headline was he loses, but winds. This extremity defeat for labour, in some ways a victory for something called actually if you can hold onto that membership, when this thing gets going, we will see other performers likejess thing gets going, we will see other performers like jess phillips, thing gets going, we will see other performers likejess phillips, who kind of not, i think theyre very strong but we cannot forget that we had this big challenge in the north of england and being able to speak for the north of the country will be very important. Thank you very much indeed. That brings us right up to the weather once again. What is going on. Good evening to you it is looking pretty cold to start off this week and towards the end of the week, the low pressure sweeps up in the south and thats going to bring increasingly wet and windy weather and with that it will be mild in the double figures for many it into friday, but we still have the chilly air with us to begin and it is low pressure to the north of the uk and it is bringing rain and less coal and some the showers wrapped into this area of low pressure which contains and snow to Higher Ground and lower levels so we could see problems with ice and it will be colderfor problems with ice and it will be colder for the south and frost and fog are so developing quite dense to parts of Northern IrelandNorthern England and into the north midlands. That weather front with outbreaks of rain, a great start to the southeast on Tuesday Morning and slowly petering out to the day, also largely dry and cold with a dense fog patch through the morning. The show was gradually easing to the Northern Isles of scotland so increasing amounts of sunshine in this temperatures remaining four a ridge of High Pressure builds in for tuesday night and into wednesday largely dry but the next area of low pressure that is going to be the game changer with wet or windier, milder weather. One or two showers in the south, but it is otherwise addressed story with plenty of sunshine around the start, winds pick up from the southeast where turned quite cold and no over star will be very chilly. To be very wet and windy with this temperatures beginning to rise. In the winter when weather sweeps across all the during wednesday night in the thursday morning, gales down the irish seacoast, this could cause some disruption and stays pretty well to start with for the day as well. For thursday could see the control with the main area of heavy rain pushing northwards and southerly winds of sunshine on friday with another area of low pressure pushing up to the south further west and youll notice the temperatures on thursday for many of us in the double figures which could see 13 degrees and will be wet and windy and another area of low pressure m oves windy and another area of low pressure moves in with further rain at times. Unsettled into the week but getting milder. The new intake of mps arrives for their first day at westminster. Blue is the colour mps travelling down from newly tory towns of the north east. It is a bit daunting but i think we are all really excited to get in there and get started. It is a bit surreal and last time you remember these sort of things is, its the first day at big school, isnt it . Hugs and a westminster photocall for the resurgent snp. And the battle for the leadership of the labour party turns bitter. A £58 million victory for the subpostmasters wrongly accused of theft by the post office. How one of arsenals star players has started
