Is named person of the year, by time magazine. And Recovery Efforts are on hold in new zealand, as more volcanic activity is predicted for white island, following this weeks fatal eruption. Its five oclock, good evening. On the last day of campaigning for the general election, with all the parties trying to win over crucial undecided voters. Borisjohnson has been targeting seats in Northern England and wales, while the labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, began his day in scotland before moving to the north of england. Jo swinson, leader of the liberal democrats, is focusing on constituencies in south east england, and the snp leader Nicola Sturgeon has been meeting voters across scotland. Our Political Correspondent, chris mason has the latest. Dawn hadnt even thought of breaking this morning and Party Leaders were out and about. Boris johnson for the conservatives pretending to be a milkman in west yorkshire, but with a political message as well as a pint of semi skimmed to flog. We could, tomorrow, be going into another hung parliament. That is more drift, more dither, more delay, more paralysis for this country, saying nothing of the economically disastrous policies of corbyn and mcdonnell. We have got to move forward, we have a fantastic agenda for this country, we can get brexit done. In govan in glasgow, laboursJeremy Corbyn was also up before the sun and saying. Tomorrow, the people all across the uk will go to vote and they have a choice. They can elect a government that they can trust. That will eliminate Child Poverty in britain. They can elect a government that will end the cruelty and the injustice of universal credit. Today is all about the leaders clocking up the masochistic miles out on the campaign trail to prove they have got to be vim, the vigour, the vitality, the verve to govern on friday. Even though, bluntly, theyre exhausted, after weeks of campaigning. Loads of videos coming in of them out on the stump across the country. I have visited nurseries i have very much enjoyed toasting marshmallows with four year olds the liberal democrat leader jo swinson has been reflecting on her campaign on her visit to esher in surrey. Her last minute message goes like this. To people who are at home watching, if you have a growing pile of liberal democrat leaflets on your kitchen table, be in no doubt that the liberal democrats can win in your seat. It will be a vote to stop brexit and to stop borisjohnson and that man must be stopped. The election is up in the air and so is this butternut squash. Enter volunteer greengrocer and Scottish National party leader Nicola Sturgeon in edinburgh. A tory victory can be stopped and in scotland that means voting snp. The snp is the main challenger to the tories and voting for other parties risks helping the tories. So if people dont want to have more cuts to Public Services, to be dragged out of europe against our will and have Boris Johnson as prime minister, vote snp. We dont have any pictures of the welsh nationalists plaid Cymru Campaign today, but here they are earlier in the campaign. The Brexit Party Leader nigel farage has been in doncaster and the green party says it is raising the alarm on the climate emergency. In just a few hours, the deafening clamour of campaigning will be over. The serenity and solitude of the polling booth will beckon. The country will decide who lives here for up to the next five years in an election that will bring about a change, whoever wins. So, lets remind ourselves of where the parties stand on the key issues, and how their policies compare. Christian fraser has been taking a look. So, its almost decision time. I cant go through the manifestos of every party but what i am going to give you is a fast and furious guide to the top policies from each party. So well start with the conservatives. If borisjohnson is returned with a majority, his Withdrawal Agreement bill would be back before parliament before year end, with the aim of leaving the European Union byjanuary. Labour is promising record spending. An unprecedented spend of £400 billion a National Transformation fund, they call it, including 250 billion for their nationalisation programme. It will be spent on energy, transport and the environment, with 150 billion for schools, hospitals and housing. The liberal democrats would cancel brexit, revoking article 50, which they say would release a brexit bonus of £50 billion, which they would spend on Public Services over the next five years. If the Scottish National party were in a coalition with a labour minority government, they would want another referendum in 2020. Thats their pledge, a referendum on scottish independence. Plaid cymru is another of the parties that wants a second referendum on brexit. The green party would prefer the focus was on the Climate Crisis. £100 billion a year over a decade to tackle Climate Change, mainly paid for by borrowing. And the brexit party, not a manifesto they call it a peoples charter but clearly their top policy is to leave all the institutions of the eu and restore the primacy of uk law. So, there you have it. Of course, there are policies as well for those parties that are standing in Northern Ireland. If you want to go and have a look at the manifestos in full in more detail, it is all there on the website. You can choose a nation, select a party and have a look at the details theyve set out. Lets speak to our Political Correspondent alex forsyth, whos in essex with the conservative camapign. We the conservative camapign. Know what the polls he saying we know what the polls have been saying over the last few weeks of this campaign. Is there a sense of a quiet optimism or still a bit of fear where you are . I think there is a sense of tension. Always on the last day of a campaign, there is a frenzied energy that goes along with it, as the Party Leaders try to clock up the miles, do as many stops as possible, stand in front of the photographers and cameras and where they can, get their Campaign Slogans and key messages out. I made all of that, i made the doorstop milk deliveries and opposing in derbyshire and we have been in south wales and back in london, heading towards essex and then a final rally later tonight, underneath it, there is the sense that it is still all to play for. The selection is far from decided. Despite the fact that the polls, and of course, we should a lwa ys polls, and of course, we should always treat those with enormous caution because they have regularly been wrong in the past, despite the fa ct been wrong in the past, despite the fact they have consistently but the tories ahead, there is no guarantee that they are right. Which is that there is a real squeeze on that and that this election is far from guaranteed. Anything could happen at this point and i think in this campaign, there is this sense that they have made the decision to put brexit front and centre of everything i have done. In doing that, they are trying to convince people to abandon old Party Loyalties and shift their ideas. Whether that is successful or not, we will only know tomorrow. 0n the moment, on this campaign team, there is no certainty about the way this will go. Sure, and that strategy of targeting, particularly in the midlands and the north, those traditional labour voting hotlines, that were leave constituencies during the referendum campaign, a controversial strategy, but some are suggesting at this stage, potentially, it has paid off. The calculation from the front, from the conservative strategists, was that the way that they might win the majority that Boris Johnson wants the way that they might win the majority that borisjohnson wants to try and get his brexit deal through parliament, was to win marginal seats in the midlands and the north, the areas that voted to leave the eu and push the brexit message hard, time and again. That has been what this campaign has been all about, seeing borisjohnson this campaign has been all about, seeing Boris Johnson giving speeches, trying to convince people that he is the one that can do that. The risk in doing that is that if you push a brexit message hard on one front to leave my writers, there isa one front to leave my writers, there is a danger that you alienate those who wanted to stay in the eu. Leave voters. Borisjohnson has pivoted in one direction and we dont know how that will play out across the country. That is of course a risk because they put the big focus of this campaign in the leave voting seats. A lot of them are marginaland a leave voting seats. A lot of them are marginal and a few hundred votes between victory and defeat for the parties that are involved. That is why the selection is far from decided and why it is one of the most unbridgeable election is that there has been. There are so many factions that play, notjust a brexit vote, but how the brexit vote will affect old party allegiances and loyalties. That is what is up in the air in the selection. There is also the sense that a lot of voters are disengaged, apathetic and angry with politicians, and we dont know how that will affect the way they choose when they go to the ballot box tomorrow. Thank you, alex, somewhere in essex. Well be joining iain watson whos following the labour leader later in the programme, and well hear from our correspondents in scotland, wales and Northern Ireland too. If you still havent made up your mind who to vote for, go to our how should i vote . guide to the election to see what the parties are promising. Thats on our website at bbc. Co. Our correspondent, adina campbell, is at the old bailey. Just take us through the events today. This case was described as a cowardly act of violence, a senseless and brutal attack. Today, 19 year old Ayoub Majdouline has been found guilty of murdering the teenager atjaden moodie been found guilty of murdering the teenager at jaden moodie in been found guilty of murdering the teenager atjaden moodie in lighting in east london on the 8th ofjanuary this year. Ayoub majdouline kept his head bowed down and showed no emotion. This has been and showed no emotion. This has been a high profile case. Jaden moodie was the first teenager to be stabbed to death in the uk this year and is the youngest victim of knife crime in london so far in 2019. Jaden moodie was brutally murdered. The final moments of his life were caught on this footage and his family wanted them to be shared. The ia year olds body is catapulted onto the road after being thrown off his mauve head by a stolen black mercedes. A hooded gang armed with large knives then jump out and repeatedly stabbed and kick him. In an attack lasting just 14 seconds, he ends up bleeding to death. Jaden was stabbed nine times. His injuries included a punctured lung and liver, as well as several slash wounds on his back. The teenagers parents are still coming to terms with their sons death. I finally got to see him and he was laid out in the crucifixion pose and thats when i just. I havent moved on since that, just that image. Jaden loved sport and had plans tojoin that, just that image. Jaden loved sport and had plans to join a that, just that image. Jaden loved sport and had plans tojoin a boxing academy. He had only moved to london from nottingham six months before he was murdered. Moodie was ambitious, love to live, he loved his family, he loved his grandma. He loved life. He was fun to be around because he would always playjokes and pranks on us and things. During the two week trial, the jury heard jaden had links to a gang and sold drugs for them. On the night of his death, he was targeted by a rival gang, also in the east london area. 0n the evening jaden was killed, some residents living on this road here in lighting reported seeing the gang members stomping and stamping on the teenager before the cart wheel is spun away. Ayoub majdouline was also found guilty of possessing a knife. He is expected to be sentenced next week and is facing a sentence of at least 25 yea rs facing a sentence of at least 25 years in prison. Thank you for that, live at the old bailey. In the last hour, the metropolitan police gave this statement about the murder of jaden moodie. This was a shocking and brutal murder of a 14 year old boy who stood no chance against his attackers. I am pleased the jury recognise the overwhelming evidence against Ayoub Majdouline and chose to convict him. It was clear that Ayoub Majdouline and is accomplices went out that day with the intent of causing serious harm. This is clear from the face coverings they used, the yellow gloves, and the lengths they went to try and destroy evidence. My thoughts and gratitude go to jadens family for the support throughout their investigation and trial. Their courage in the face of such a tragedy is to be admired and is truly humble. 0ur such a tragedy is to be admired and is truly humble. Our investigation is truly humble. Ill be back with more on those stories in around 15 minutes. The environmental campaigner Greta Thunberg, has accused governments and corporations of failing to tackle Climate Change, by hiding behind clever accounting and creative pr. Addressing the un Climate Summit in madrid, she criticised what she said were constant attempts to find loopholes to avoid emissions targets. Today, the swedish teenager was named time magazines person of the year. Our environment correspondent matt mcgrath reports. Just a year ago, she was a little known swedish climate striker with a home made sign. But she arrived in madrid for cop25 as the worlds most famous climate activist. Greta thunberg came to this key Climate Conference not to generate soundbites, she said, but to reiterate that the science was clear this was an emergency and the world was not treating it like one. So, please tell me, how do you react to these numbers without feeling at least some level of panic . How do you respond to the fact that basically nothing is being done about this without feeling the slightest bit of anger . And how do you communicate this without sounding alarmist . I would really like to know. Ms thunberg lambasted the politicians and negotiators here, saying they were more concerned with finding loopholes in the laws than fixing the problem. 0ur leaders are not behaving as if we were in an emergency. In an emergency, you change your behaviour. If there is a child standing in the middle of the road and cars are coming at full speed, you dont look away because its too uncomfortable. You immediately run out and rescue that child. While gretas impassioned speech drew great applause from the audience here, her problem was that she was speaking to the converted. Many of the key negotiators here at these talks simply stayed away. Protesters in australia have vented their concern about the wildfires that are sweeping the country and their governments lack of ambition on Climate Change. Delegates at the cop, meanwhile, are bogged down in the arcane details of the negotiations. It could be that, in gretas words, the Climate Crisis will only be solved by citizens on the streets. Matt mcgrath, bbc news, madrid. Penelope lea hasjust come back from the Climate Summit in madrid. Shes a unicef ambassador for norway, and at 15, the second youngest ambassador of all time. She joins us now via webcam. Its good to see you, thank you for being with us. You are 15, as i say, Greta Thunberg is 16, how do you feel about the fact that it is up to young people like you, it seems, to fight this battle over Climate Change . It shouldnt be that. And this is my third cop it now, and this is my third cop it now, and this time, it was a lot more young people than ever before, and i think thatis people than ever before, and i think that is good. Because it shows how strong we are, standing together, but it should not be our responsibility. But now, when it is, we stand together and we stand together to put pressure on those in power. When did you get involved with this activism . I started working on this when i was eight yea rs working on this when i was eight years old, and it was a lot of reasons why. The main reason i believe is actually very simple. It is because i love life and i love to live it. Is it a shock or a surprise to you that there arent as many adults who seem to care about this . Im sad, because it isnt. Also, there are some adults who care really try to make the changes that we see. Sometimes, we need to wait for people to get ready to change, but i think we need to make people ready. We need leaders that talk to the people in ways that gives them a chance to understand the situation we are standing and the crisis, and support the changes we need to see. Is norway doing enough . Not at all. In my country, we have all the resources and we have responsibility and economic responsibility to do a lot more than we do now, but we still dont. And so, therefore, Climate Change really concerns me and a lot of youth in norway and the Climate Movement here in norway. I really hope my country gains its wealth on oil and Gas Production to step up and take responsibility for that and cut our emissions cost. And there are those who would argue, adults it has to be said, who would argue that the global economy, to a degree, functions because of fossil fuels, that it needs to be a gradual move towards moving away from those kinds of energy, and that perhaps, the kind of pace that you and Greta Thunberg and others are talking about simply isnt feasible for most peoples lives. Yes, and actually, a couple of weeks ago, a lot of youth climate activists and norway in norway and organisations based on the constitution and based on this policy in our society. This policy has been silenced for a long time and it is a harsh debate here in norway, and it hasnt been talked about. Norway is actually the second largest distributor of Greenhouse Gasesin largest distributor of Greenhouse Gases in the world, and we really need to stop this, we really need to ta ke need to stop this, we really need to take our responsibility and do a lot more than we do now. And i believe world leaders, especially those from my country and other rich countries, need to show empathy and solidarity. We will leave it there, it is a pleasure to talk to you, thank you very much indeed. Penelope is a unicef ambassador for norway on Climate Change. Aung san suu kyi, the de facto leader of myanmar, has denied accusations of genocide, at the International Court ofjustice in the hague. A military crackdown in myanmar in 2017 resulted in thousands of Rohingya Muslims being killed, and more than 700,000 fleeing to neighbouring bangladesh. Aung san suu kyi blamed the violence and mass displacement on militants seeking independence, though she added it couldnt be ruled out, that her countrys Defence Forces used disproportionate force. Anna holligan reports now from the hague. Waiting in anticipation for a glimpse of the woman they call mother suu. Myanmar is shrouded with fake news and many other, er, unfair charges, so this is our chance to give to the world to give a true picture of what is really happening in myanmar. The world was watching as, for the first time, Aung San Suu Kyi responded to the allegations that myanmar has been trying to exterminate the rohingya population. A woman once considered a Global Human Rights icon told thejudges she understood the definition of genocide, but went on to characterise the situation in myanmar as Something Else an internal Armed Conflict which began when rohingya militants killed nine police officers. Regrettably, the gambia has placed before the court an incomplete and misleading factual picture of the situation in Rakhine State in myanmar. Yet it is of the utmost importance that the Court Assesses the situation pertaining on the ground in rakhine dispassionately and accurately. She claims the clearance operation carried out by myanmars army, which left an estimated 10,000 rohingya dead, was a legitimate response to a terrorist threat, though she did concede individual soldiers may have made mistakes. Mr president , it cannot be ruled out that disproportionate force was used by members of the defence services, in some cases, in disregard of International Humanitarian law, or that they did not distinguish clearly enough between fighters and civilians. Aung san suu kyi made no reference to the harrowing witness testimony from rohingya survivors, some read out in court yesterday, who spoke of military firing squads, gang rapes and babies thrown into burning buildings. These rohingya fear their families are being erased from Rakhine State. They are urging the judges to agree to the gambias request for emergency measures to protect the 600,000 rohingya who remain in myanmar. The woman who many once regarded as their brightest hope stood in court and urged thejudges not to intervene and risk aggravating what Aung San Suu Kyi described as a complex conflict. Anna holligan reporting from the hague. The post office has agreed to pay more than £57 million to settle a dispute with former subpostmasters and postmistresses, who were wrongly accused of fraud and false accounting. It brings to an end a series of court cases about a Computer System used to manage local post office finances. Our personal finance correspondent, Simon Gompertz is here. How many people are involved in this case . 550 sub po subpostmaster is post mistresses have signed up for this group action. It goes back to 2000, when a new system called horizon was brought in to manage the money in local post offices and soon after, shortfalls began to appear. So postmasters and sub post mistresses were blamed for that, even though they said it was a glitch in the system that was causing it. Many of them lost their contracts, some are bankrupted, prosecuted, some went to prison because of that. That is what behind the case that they have been bringing. Earlier this year, the case that they have been bringing. Earlierthis year, in the case that they have been bringing. Earlier this year, in the first stage of it, it was found that the post offices contracts were unreasonable and they have gone to mediation and now, they have come up with this settlement of £58 million. The chairman of the post office said, we got things wrong in our dealings with a number of postmasters. £58 million, is that enough to cover the losses that these people say they made . enough to cover the losses that these people say they made . A 16 million will go for legal costs, another for million will go for legal costs, anotherfor a million will go for legal costs, another for a fee from a big backer who backed this case, but even what remains, if you divided up between them, would be tens of thousands of pounds on average for each of these so postmasters, and more for those who suffered most. Thank you, simon. Now its time for a look at the weather with darren bett. A day of sunshine and showers today, but feeling quite chilly out there this evening. Let me show you the earlier showers, and you can see we have had some pushing into eastern parts of england, then fading away from other Western Areas. Those showers will continue to move away and we will find clearing skies for many parts of england and wales and Northern Ireland just for a while, but the showers keep going for longer in scotland. They will be wintry over the hills, so some icy patches here. A frost in scotland, patchy frost for northern and Eastern England, perhaps into the midlands. For Northern Ireland, wales and the south west, temperatures might recover later in the night because we have the cloud and rain coming in, that will push north and east, a different look to the weather again on thursday. Into the weather again on thursday. Into the colder air, we will find some snow over the pennines. Above 400 metres. Likewise in scotland, curled here. Typical temperatures will be success in it, but milder in south and west, as the persistent rain clears away, with showers to follow. This is bbc news. The headlines. Sport now, and for a full round up from the bbc sport centre, heres gavin. Good evening. Manchester city fans havent got too much longer to wait as their side prepare to take on dynamo zagreb. The game kicks off in about 20 minutes time in croatia. Pep guardiola is desperate for his side to recover from their derby day defeat to united, and they re currently on one of the poorest runs in his time at the club but he reckons fans will have to wait a bit longer to see an improvement. The to see an improvement. Way we play is still there, game the way we play is still there, our game as they are. But to reach that level, we have to improve in some department, especially the boxes, and right now, but in favouri maybe we are better, and after that everything can happen. Spurs will finish second in their group, regardless of their result away to bayern munich. The german champions hammered them 7 2 in london, beforejose mourinho took over. So, has he watched that match through with the players . Iforbid any i forbid any image about it. I watch it. I watch it a couple of times me and my staff and try to go through every detail of that match but not one single image for the boys, no, not at all. We are going to focus more on us than on bayern. He took two wickets. Dimuth karunaratne the top scorer so far with 59. The spectators gave us a lot of support, i see some boards, giving us support, i see some boards, giving us welcome, so those are the good things, when we are here and when you are travelling, the other countries, no supporters from the other country. Lets hear more about the final day of campaigning around the uk. In a moment, well hear from our correspondents, chris page in belfast and Daniel Davies in wales, but first lets go to our scotland correspondent lorna gordon, who is in milngavie in East Dunbartonshire. Nicola sturgeon out on the stomp, expecting her party to be dominant in this election. Yes, the themes here that she will be hammering home andindeed here that she will be hammering home and indeed the theme is overwhelming in the Election Campaign in scotland for every party are brexit and their position on scottish independence. The snp are saying no to brexit and yes to scottish independence. When Nicola Sturgeon comes to East Dunbartonshire injust Nicola Sturgeon comes to East Dunbartonshire in just a short while, that will be the message she is hammering home. She will be saying that if voters want to lock borisjohnson out of downing street then they should vote for the snp. Interesting it is East Dunbartonshire, the seat that the liberal democrat leaderjo swinson the one in 2017. A target for the snp, the lib dems message when it comes to those constitutional questions is no to brexit and no to scottish independence. They argue they do not want to see any constitutional chaos, whether in the eu ora pain constitutional chaos, whether in the eu or a pain it comes to the uk. The leader of labour has also been up here today, and Jeremy Corbyn, but of course borisjohnson has not been rp, he has been leaving it to Jackson Carlaw at the former leader of the scottish conservatives ruth davidson. Everything to play for in scotland, two thirds of the seats here are marginal. All the parties working hard in the final few hours of the campaign here in scotland. Brexit has generated a new pledge dimension in Northern Ireland. For the first time with the two main nationalist parties are standing aside in some key constituencies in order to consolidate the anti brexit vote behind the best placed pro remain candidate. The effects of that will probably be most felt into seats currently held by the pro brexit dup. In south belfast, sinn fein isnt running to maximise the chances of the nationalist sdlp. In north belfast, the sdlp is standing aside to give sinn fein a clear run stop north belfast also one of two constituencies where two main unionist parties are operating an electoral pact to unite the units vote, as they have done in several previous elections. The cross immunity allies party is the only one standing in all 18 constituencies, it is trying to build on significant gains in the Council European elections earlier this year. The Cross Community alliance party. These have been the main issues in the campaign but the issue of health care is also up the agenda with Health Care Workers taking industrial action and also new figures being published which have highlighted the fact that Northern Ireland has the longest hospital waiting times in the uk by far. All that highlighting no devolved government and talks of revising is stormont are pencilled in to begin next monday. Boris johnson has been in south wales, he visited the seat of caerphilly, an unusual choice because it is a safe labour seat and not one of the constituencies in wales that is generally considered likely to be changing hands at this election. There are if you wear labour and tories are head to head at the welsh labour leader Mark Drakeford has been visiting constituencies that could be in the balance today. His party are ahead in the polls in wales, as you would expect, but the gap between labour and the conservatives has narrow compared to re ce nt conservatives has narrow compared to recent elections. Both the two main parties relying on their core messages in the last couple of days, the last few hours of only Election Campaign, Boris Johnson saying the last few hours of only Election Campaign, borisjohnson saying to get brexit done, labour trying to consolidate their support, a message to people who may be flirting with the idea of voting for plaid cymru or the liberal democrats. That you remain parties. Saying to them, they cannot form a uk government. If you vote for those parties, you could be allowing borisjohnson into number ten. So, what are the chances of any party gaining a majority . Jeremy vine has been looking at the numbers. Let me show you first of all the result of the last general election 326 seats needed for a majority in the house of commons, and the conservatives fell short with 318. Labour quite a long way behind here we go, 262 for them. And then we have the snp down a bit, 35, and the lib dems and so on. Now, the result of that was that the conservatives could not govern with a majority in the house of commons. They were short by eight seats, and we had two years of chaos in parliament. Realistically, there are only two parties who can win this election. Lets have a look at both of them now. Lets look first at the conservatives targets. Here, i show you the seats they are zoning in on, the ones with the smallest majorities last time just 20 something votes in it in perth and north perthshire, kensington, derby north, newcastle under lyme, crewe and nantwich, all with majorities of less than 100, really tight. The conservatives arent expecting to make big gains in scotland, to say the least, so lets take scottish seats out of it and just look at english and welsh seats here. If they need just eight seats, the eighth is ashfield in nottinghamshire. Let me show you on our map just here. Now, that, of course, presupposes the conservatives dont lose seats. If they lose in scotland, london and so on, theyll need more seats from this board. Labour have a much bigger hill to climb. Lets look at the seats they might be focusing on, and we start again with the ones with the smallest, tightest majorities Southampton Itchen from the conservatives and Glasgow South West and glasgow east and so on. These are the ones labour are zoning in on. In order for labour to have an overall majority in the house of commons, theyd have to take all 32 of these seats and theyd have to go down the next board as well, all the way down these columns here to east kilbride, which is a very, very hard job. They are not polling well in scotland, so ill take the scottish seats out. Ill show you where they have to get to all the way down here, rochford in essex, which is this seat here. If they gain this seat and all the ones before it, they have an overall majority in the house of commons, but theres a 5,500 vote majority for the conservatives in rochford. Just to be the largest party, labour would still need to go all the way down the screen here to about the 30th seat, morley and 0utwood, which used to be ed ballss. So a big hill to climb for labour, but by no means in the bag for the conservatives. Over the last few weeks we have seen plenty of highs and lows, key messages hammered home, the odd gaffe, and rows over tv debates. Joining me now to look back at the standout moments is katy balls, deputy Political Editor of the spectator, and stephen bush, Political Editor of the new statesman. As ever, a pleasure to have you both. What is your standout single moment if you can think of one . What did change the conversation was the terror incident in london. It ultimately move the conversation, became a blissful issue. Much to the upset of the victims family, but a move the conversation at a crime and security and meant that the conservatives couldnt talk about brexit in terms of that weekend. It had ramifications for the rest of the campaign generally. In terms of the campaign generally. In terms of the general campaign, i wouldnt say it has been the most lively and terms of what we have been getting on the parties, yes i think Boris Johnson has done more media than theresa may, but it has failed fairly staged and clearly there are things he didnt do. What is interesting is that as much as the two parties are trying to control the narrative, because digital has written in importance over several elections, it does feel as though the clips that are going viral are not always the one that the party planned for. That has given this election are pit of an edge. Which not even the best strategies could plot. I think for me the real moment of the campaign was one where something didnt happen, that first televised debate between Jeremy Corbyn and Boris Johnson. Johnsons re cord corbyn and Boris Johnson. Johnsons record in televised debates is not great, every poll conducted after his debate on the tory leadership, ken livingstone, he lost all of them. Jeremy corbyn went into those debates as someone who has been doing this all his career, been declared the winner by the polls after the tv debate in 2017. The leadership debates in labour. For borisjohnson to get leadership debates in labour. For Boris Johnson to get a draw and get out of it without a Game Changing moment of virality of the kind that katie talked about, unless it turns out that the file moment knocks the tories of course, this little boy being treated on the floor of the hospital, i think that moment when he was in the arena of maximum danger, when his campaign didnt fall apart, just probably the most significant event. Competing narratives, brexit and the nhs essentially on the park of the labour party. Seems as of brexit has won out. This week it is the nhs that has one, the final week of the campaign. Ithink that has one, the final week of the campaign. I think there is a question about that and whether it is too late, but it is interesting, the toys wanted to spend the final days of the campaign doubling down on brexit. 0n days of the campaign doubling down on brexit. On monday, which is now being dubbed miserable monday for the conservatives, one of their worst days. Lots of stories about children being held up in a e, and the moment that stephen touched on, borisjohnson been confronted with that photo and not looking at it. Drawing comparisons with theresa may. I think the tories will be quite happy polling day is a suit to so there is not more space for things to go wrong. Broadly i think the brexit message is hammered home but i do think as the weeks have gone on we have seen what happened in 2017, domestic issues can take over. The nhs has become more of an issue that the conceptus would have liked. What about the liberal democrats . The pills have been shifting and well have a few hours to go. It seems as if the liberal democrats have slipped. Yes, all the evidence, the polls at local council by elections, the conversation we are having, suggested liberal democrats have lost rather than gained popularity. That is quite significant because we know Boris Johnsons strategy presupposes that you take a lot of seats from labour but the risk is do you allow available liberal democrat revival . In those remain constituencies, that is the danger. It looks like the lib dems may only gain three or four seats of the conservative party, which of course means he does not have to do as well in the labour but as he might have needed. Their failure to break through, the fact that jo swinson has not, when people are seen more of her, they havent been enthused by her. That squeeze on the liberal democrats has been the big important factor for them. For many people, this is a brexit election. For others it is about services and the nhs. As faras others it is about services and the nhs. As far as the brexit party is concerned, they went into this a p pa re ntly concerned, they went into this apparently fielding 0liver the country, that didnt happen, and the green party in this era of greater environmental consciousness on the pa rt environmental consciousness on the part of so many other people, two parties that seemed to have fallen by the wayside potentially. They have been squeezed, partly because of electoral pacts they have agreed to, and as soon ija made the decision to stand down candidates in tory held seats, that undermined his argument that the brexit party was an alternative option that was viable. Nigel farage. They have had a difficult campaign, you see Brexit Party Meps defecting and hammering this message home, and it will be interesting to see on Election Night of one of those stories, how Many Brexit Party candidates failed to actually meet the percent required in order to keep there, not get their deposit back . The brexit party could still have a seismic effect. Yes, they had been squashed, but in some of these labour held seats and leave areas that the tories are targeting, we see ina that the tories are targeting, we see in a poll, if you vote the brexit party here and there, could be what gives it to labour instead. We cannot say that they have not been effective yet, but i think in terms of their own gaze, the picture looks bleak. Briefly, we know that issues for the parties that are not up issues for the parties that are not up in the top two, are we basically talking about a full throated return to 2 Party Politics . Talking about a full throated return to 2Party Politics . I dont think we are. Scotland will continue to be dominated by the snp, the liberal democrats will continue to revive. We are still in an era of multiParty Politics. It isjust the slow recovery of the liberal democrats means they are not perhaps getting back to the mid naughties heyday of multiParty Politics just yet. Back to the mid naughties heyday of multiParty Politicsjust yet. We will leave it there. Thank you. Back to todays campaigning, as the parties make their final push to win over undecided voters. 0ur Political Correspondent iain watson has been following the labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and joins us from bedford. They have broken into song, Jeremy Corbyn expected at six oclock, he may be late because in traversing the country, if ive hundred mile journey from glasgow. 0ne the country, if ive hundred mile journey from glasgow. One of the key task he has heard is to stop off at leave areas, where perhaps we played voted labour in 2017 but that might leave in the referendum. So he was in south yorkshire, before that i was at a rally that he was addressing in middlesbrough, and they are around 2000 people had voted leeds in 2016. His message was to try to say to labour voters, if borisjohnson to try to say to labour voters, if Boris JohnsonBoris Johnson to try to say to labour voters, if borisjohnson borisjohnson is not on their side. He pledged on the nhs and also on scrapping universal credit. Messages he thought they would want to hear, even tweeted that Boris Johnson would want to hear, even tweeted that borisjohnson despises the working class, that is what he said. Using quotes are borisjohnsons. So he is effectively trying to get a dividing line between these labour leave my photos and the conservatives to stop them defecting tomorrow. In bedford, this was a seat where 52 voted to leave in the referendum ad labour has a way for majority. These labour leeds voters. Amongst the insiders, it seems there is going to be a net loss of labour sees unless they can persuade some people from 2017 not to be tempted to either stay at home or defective borisjohnson. To be tempted to either stay at home or defective Boris Johnson. Defect to Boris Johnson. Now, would you think again about eating a chocolate bar or packet of crisps if the packaging told you how many minutes of exercise it would take to burn it off . Researchers at Loughborough University are suggesting that putting that sort of information on labels could help us all make healthier food choices. Dominic hughes has the details. Food already carries information about calories, fat, sugar and salt content, but researchers say the Current System is poorly understood and its not having an impact on rising levels of obesity. So what about labelling that tells you the amount and type of exercise youd need to do to burn off all those calories . We know that the public consistently underestimate the amount of calories so, if you ask the public how many calories are in this food, they often underestimate how many are in it so we would like to see physical activity carry equivalent labelling, because actually it gives a meaning and context to the amount of exercise or physical activity required to burn that food. As a rough guide to the link between exercise and food, lets put together a lunchtime meal deal a chicken and bacon sandwich, roughly 445 calories, would require 42 minutes of slow running. A chocolate bar, 229 calories, would need 22 minutes of running. Wash that down with a medium mocha coffee thats 290 calories and 28 minutes of running. All up, thats more than an hour and a half of running. Researchers say such a labelling system could save nearly 200 calories per person per day, but would it really change our behaviour . I think youd frighten a lot of people. Youd go, urgh i think people would be. I think a lot of people would be interested and more inclined to exercise and know what theyve got to do to work it off. Its really important with the issue of obesity and stuff right now that people know what they are putting into their bodies and how much they need to do to counteract that, but i also think that, with diet culture and all that sort of thing and eating disorders and stuff, it could cause a lot of mental difficulty as well. There is a disconnect between what you are eating and kind of what exercise you would expect to burn it off, so i think putting a quantifiable number on it would make that connect easier so people understand it more, myself included. Nutritionists point out that we burn calories all the time, even without exercising, and that food is a vital source of nutrition as well as energy. But even small reductions in the calories we consume can make a big impact across the whole population. Experts say this is a simple, cheap measure that could make a real difference to the obesity crisis. Dominic hughes, bbc news. New zealands Geological Agency is warning more volcanic activity is expected on white island in the next 24 hours. The eruption on monday killed six people, nine are still missing and more than 20 are being treated in hospitalfor severe burns. Authorities had hoped they would be able to retrieve the bodies of those left behind on the island but Recovery Efforts are now on hold. Now its time for a look at the weather with darren bett. Thank you, there has been a different look and feel to the weather today, it will change again tomorrow. Have a look outside from early, showers coming in from the west, a bit of snow over the tops of the mountains, even in wales. Those showers, although they moved further east, have been decaying over the last hour of so. Some clearer skies. Look what has come in, cloud coming in from the atlantic, that will change things again tomorrow. In the colder air showers that we have had earlier, they are beginning to ease off, you can see they have moved into eastern parts of england. Fewer showers already for wales and western england, and also for Northern Ireland where it should turn try. Showers going for longer in scotland, where the window stronger. Those showers will be followed as sleet and snow in the hills. The risk of some icy patches, we will get a touch of frost for scotland, also called enough for long enough to give a touch of froth for northern and eastern parts of england. Head further west to Northern Ireland, wales and the south west at those temperatures will recover. All that cloud i showed you is coming courtesy of these weather fronts which will bring rain into Western Areas by the morning. Ahead of it, chilly start for the eastern side, but it will cloud over here at the rate that is already in the west will put its way northwards and eastwards. Heavier burs, over the hills of Northern England and pennines, some snow add likewise over the hills of scotland. Quite cold here. Mild is whether south wales, south west, double figures after persistent rain, but there will be a few showers and blustery wind here as well. Those showers will continue into the evening long after that band of rain on that weather front has cleared away from eastern parts of england. Same low pressure will keep that weather front anchored across northern scotland, so more cloud and rain here. Elsewhere sunshine around, blustery wind, showers, mainly across western parts. Maybe not quite so many showers on friday. Temperatures typically eight celsius, chile across scotland, not as cold as thursday, and again double figures, for the far south of finland and wales. The weekend, chilly, sunshine, host of the showers and wetter weather will be for the northern half of the uk, but to the south the winner will be that bit stronger. Looking ahead into the weekend, some showers and longer spells of rain in Northern Ireland, heading into scotland. The snow over the hills. Very few showers for much of england and wales, drier further south. The winner will be stronger as well. Temperatures getting up to nine or 10 celsius, chilly for most. Second half of the weekend, rain saturday night, wet weather clearing from the south eastern areas, this time notch i showers for scotland and Northern Ireland, probably more for westernmost parts of england and wales and along the south coast. Generally dry for Eastern England and eastern scotland. Again chilly, even though they will be sunshine. Makes weather to come over the next few days. Mixed weather. The last day of campaigning and Party Leaders scramble to win over undecided voters from dawn till dusk. Look whos here ive come to deliver your milk. Thank you very much. Borisjohnson is an unexpected milkman in west yorkshire. Jeremy corbyn addresses a dawn rally in glasgow. Tomorrow, the people all across the uk will go to vote. And they have a choice. They can elect a government that they can trust. That will eliminate Child Poverty. Weve got a fantastic agenda for this country. We can get brexit done. We are ready to go. Weve got a deal thats ready to go. Lets get this thing done and move on. Later in the day, the snp leader rallies voters at a greengrocers in edinburgh while the lib dem leaderjo swinson aims
