Democrats in the United States have set out their case for removing President Trump from office. A report from the House Intelligence Committee accuses him of obstructing justice and trying to use a Foreign Government to help his re election campaign. A vote in the house is expected before the end of the year. Mr trump has described the process as an unpatriotic witch hunt, a one sided sham. This report from peter bowes contains flash photography. Page after page, the case to impeach donald trump. Overwhelming evidence of misconduct and obstruction, according to the House Intelligence Committee, which is controlled by the democrats. After hearing from more than a dozen witnesses, the panel concluded that mr trump solicited the interference of a Foreign Government, ukraine, to benefit his re election. He put personal political interests ahead of the national interest. This is the result of a president who believes he is beyond indictment, beyond impeachment, beyond any form of accountability and indeed, above the law. And that is a very dangerous thing for this country, to have an unethical president who believes they are above the law. The white house slammed the impeachment enquiry as a one sided sham, which had utterly failed to produce any evidence of wrongdoing by President Trump. But the investigation goes on, moving to the housejudiciary committee, which will consider specific charges, the articles of impeachment, against the president. Again, the democrats are in control, and if, as expected, the full house of representatives votes in favour of impeachment, a trial could take place as early as next month in the senate, where the republicans are in charge. Its all in the house at the moment. And as ive said over and over again, if the house does in fact act, then the senate will be in business with an impeachment trial. Donald trump has repeated his view that the impeachment enquiry is a hoax, being used by the democrats for political gain. But like it or not, and with the president still out of the country, the process is moving quickly. Peter bowes, bbc news. President trump is in london for a nato leaders meeting, to mark the military alliances 70th anniversary. Divisions have already been exposed, with mr trump accusing frances president macron of being nasty and disrespectful, for describing nato as brain dead. This report from our Diplomatic Correspondent James Landale contains some flashing images. Not every military alliance gets to celebrate its 70th birthday with the queen at buckingham palace, but nato leaders past and present have been keeping her safe since just before she ascended the throne. Behind the smiles, though, there were some real disagreements about the future. This is the man asking difficult questions, president macron of france said nato was suffering strategic brain death, prompting a rare defence of the alliance from donald trump. When you make a Statement Like that, that is very nasty, a very nasty statement to essentially 28 countries. I think you have a high Unemployment Rate in france, france is not doing well economically at all. Mr macrons big concern is over the actions over another nato member, turkey and its military incursion of syria. President erdogan of dirty ones to treat once to treat former allies in syria as a terrorist. Im sorry we dont have the same definition of terrorism. When i look at turkey, they now are fighting against those who fought with us, shoulder to shoulder, against isis. And if thats not enough, donald trump is still attacking nato allies we re trump is still attacking nato allies were not spending more on defence, describing those missing targets as delinquents and threatening them with trade sanctions. So when nato leaders gather today at this hotel in watford for their formal meeting, the focus will be on trying to ove ico m e the focus will be on trying to overcome the differences and finding some Common Ground on how to approach china and new threats in cyber and space. Nato has survived because its been able to adapt, 70 yea rs because its been able to adapt, 70 years on, the alliance is under pressure to change once again. James landale, bbc news. Australia has repealed a law which gave doctors the right to evacuate Asylum Seekers from offshore detention centres for medical treatment. The medevac law was passed by opposition and independent lawmakers in february. But Prime Minister Scott Morrison argued that it posed a threat to National Security and has now won a vote to scrap it. Lets get more now from our sydney correspondent shaimaa khalil. Tell us about the reaction to this move on the part of Scott Morrison . This was always going to be controversial because when the law passed, as you mentioned back in february, it was considered a big blow to the conservative government who were adamant and unrelenting in the way to deter Asylum Seekers. At that time, there was public outrage at the medical conditions, the living conditions, of these detention centres, and that is why the law came into force. Since that happened, there has really been a political tussle between Scott Morrisons liberal party or liberal national coalition, and the opposition labour party. Today, they managed to scrap that law and in his press briefing, Scott Morrison said that they finally were able to shut that they finally were able to shut that door that labour wanted open. Really goes into the heart australias government immigration laws, its approach towards immigration, and the fact that they say that this law wasnt about vulnerable people, it was about a loophole where people could get into australia. Mind you, not many people came in through that law, 135 refugees managed to come in for treatment, and those who came in and those who support them say that this is about people and very vulnerable positions and areas that dont have adequate medical treatment, but now that it has been scrapped no others can come in through that law at the moment. These offshore detention centres have been extremely controversial. Many campaigning within australia to close them down. They argue that they are human rights violations. Absolutely. The un has described them as inhumane. We have seen reports, and these were actually the reports that led up to the public outrage that led to the law. Some of the reports described it as law. Some of the reports described itasa law. Some of the reports described it as a Mental Health crisis with children as young as 11 to depressed to eat or sleep and are committing suicide. Doctors have long complained that they just arent enough or adequate medical supplies there to help the people there, and when the law was scrapped earlier this morning, there was great anger among the opposition, for example an independent mp said that parliament has some to a new low. Some described it in the greens party as a dark day. Very controversial, but definitely in line with the governments approach to immigration and trying to deter people coming in through the boats and coming in through the boats and coming in through the boats and coming in through the areas of manus island and nauru. But from me and the rest of the team, that is your wednesday sport briefing. The winner of this years turner art prize has been announced at a ceremony here in london. Or that should be. Winners. Because for the first time ever, the world famous art prize was awarded jointly to all those artists whod been nominated. Rich preston has the story. The British Seaside town of margate was the backdrop, and the traditional Fairground Park dreamland. Now in its 35th year, the turner prize is known for its shock value. Damien hirsts nomination in 1982 of a tiger shark in formaldehyde was one of the decades most controversial pieces of art. In 1999, tracey emins work my bed caused a storm, though it didnt actually win. But this latest shock wasnt anything to do with the art itself. Heres something quite extraordinary. At a time of Political Division in britain and conflict in much of the world, the artists wanted to use the occasion of the turner prize to make a strong statement of community and solidarity, and have formed themselves into a collective. Applause. The four nominees wrote to thejudges explaining that their art is about social and political issues. Lawrence abu hamdans work recreates the noises inside a syrian prison. 0scar murillos is a congregation of human effigies. While tai shanis is described as a feminist fantasy beyond patriarchal limits. And Helen Cammock produced a film commemorating the role of women in the Northern Irish troubles. We each work with specific issues. Were each dealing with things we feel passionately about, but it doesnt mean that those things, we see them in separation from each other. For us, it was important to use this platform in a specific political momentm and kind of do something that would go beyond just the normal thing that happens in this prize, really. In their letter to judges, the nominees said it would feel problematic to be pitted against one another, asking if, at a time of so much division, they could instead be considered as one. The judges unanimously agreed. So, do you agree . What do you think of this idea of all the nominees winning, there is no winner takes all. Take a look at them all. Congratulations to them all, and they are going to split four ways they are going to split four ways the prize money, £110,000, so they get £10,000 each. We wanted to know, what do you think of this idea . The booker prize as well, this year unusually, had two winners as well. We have heard from finland, who says actually, lets hope so. This is a new error when it comes to these kinds of competitions. Competition is better for kinds of competitions. Competition is betterfor mental kinds of competitions. Competition is better for Mental Health than winning at every cost. Winner takes it just doesnt work winning at every cost. Winner takes itjust doesnt work in the long run. Carlos says this is ridiculous virtue signalling. What is happening to people . Megan says, the rise of the ultra liberal left snowflakes where competing is better than winning. The prize was discredited the minute tracy emin won with an unmade bed. Megan has got quite a few likes on that one. Then Angela Thompson says oh dear, strikes me that the turner prize has become more pretentious and pointless, and then belle isle g theres individual success has taken a back seat to appreciate teamwork. Businesses are awarding based on organisations revenue instead of individual productivity. So many more views out there, bbcthebriefing is the place to look, get involved, tell us what you think. I will be back with all the top business stories and more on that change at google in just a moment. Hello there. Weve got quite a mixed weather picture coming our way for wednesday. Let me explain. The satellite picture shows a stripe of cloud coming into Western Areas. This is a weather front thats going to be bringing rain across Western Areas through the day. Further south and eastwards, high pleasure still influencing the weather across england and wales, where the skies are relatively clearer. Now, if your heading outside over the next few hours, a bit of rain working into north Western Areas, with strengthening south westerly winds. Its actually going to be a relatively mild start to the day, with temperature about nine degrees in stornoway. England and wales though with some clearer skies and patchy cloud. In the countryside, it gets cold enough for a few patches of frost and indeed we could see an odd fog patch around. Still, for many of us a bright start to the day for england, wales, eastern scotland, with soem morning sunshine. Rain across the north west will slowly sink its way southward, reaching the north of both england and wales, as we head into the afternoon. It stays dry and bright to the south east of our weather front, but its still quite cool 6 8 degrees. Further north west, its milder. Weve got blustery conditions working into western scotland, with showers. Temperatures in stornoway up to ten. Later in the week, through thursday and friday, were looking at weather fronts really ganging up and focusing heavy rain into the north west of scotland. Here, around the Western Highlands we could see around 70mm or 80mm, perhaps up to 100mm or more up over the high ground, enough to cause impact with localised flooding, but it is not the only place that will see rain. Through thursday, the rain will get into northern ireland, across Northern England and into wales as well. To the south and east, a bit more cloud around but still dry and bright, at this stage and, with south westerly winds spreading across more of the uk, its going to be turning milder. Temperature 9 12 degrees. If you think recent nights have been really cold and frosty, thursday night will be anything but. A very mild night, temperatures around 11 12 degrees for most of us, the reason . Its going to be cloudy, wet and windy. Initially, with the wind coming in from the south westerly direction but, as we go through friday, we will start to get north westerly winds spreading into the north west of the country and, with that, cooler air temperatures seven degrees in stornoway, mild for the midlands, southern england and east anglia, with temperatures reach around 12 13 degrees. As far as the weekend goes, it should start off on a dry and bright note for many of us on saturday, with some sunshine. Sunday more unsettled, cloudy with rain at times.
