Criticising turkey for its actions in Northern Syria against the kurds, a group who president macron sees as a group who president macron sees as a key ally in the fight against isis. So it is meant to be this celebration of unity but today nato looking to be a pretty divided alliance. We have been watching pictures of some of the leaders and their partners. We also have the lovely moment with donald trump having to wait while president macron was going in. People sometimes dont get the perspective because downing street is now sealed off as i didnt used to be. Now it is a very small space now. Where if you are outside, it will be somewhere for you to be undercover and way out of sight. We have the choreography but seeing behind the curtains and some of the stagecraft in the set dressing that goes on behind the scenes. It is interesting because obviously, heck of a lot of media is here. Hundreds of journalists and all waiting for those leaders to emerge. All of them, except for President Trump and his wife, arrived on foot. At least onto downing street. President trump, he arrived in what is known as the beast, his limousine and of course, the beast decoy as well, which travels wherever the beast goes. He was the only one who was allowed to drive onto downing street, and then a slightly awkward moment where he had to wait for president macron to go in for several minutes actually, and then he takes his turn to walk at downing street and he did have this wonderful choir behind us to keep him occupied for those few moments. A slightly surreal scene here, some of the general is here have been pointing out the last time we had a president visit downing street in such things was in the film lover, actually. Laughter. A fascinating fa ct actually. Laughter. A fascinating fact there. Film, love actually. In terms of tonight, the Buckingham Palace reception was part of the formality of hosting and receiving these World Leaders. But in terms of actually downing street tonight, is this another reception or kind of combined with the talks that begin tomorrow . I think it is a reception. There was some talk of there being a round but looking at all manner of people arriving before hand, a lot of the guess, it feels much more like an informal gathering and then of course, we have this meeting in watford tomorrow. When presumably, more formal matters will be discussed. Hopefully, they will try and paper over some of these disagreements that we have seen in public today. Although we are not expecting any sort of formal declaration to be made at the end of that meeting tomorrow. As perhaps we might have done on previous section nato summit. In downing street, and the slips quietly in, that might be marked from netherlands. I hope the choir. Thank you, john for now. Lets take a look now at what happened earlier today. In a press conference, us President Donald Trump had this to say about the British Election due in nine days. Ill stay out of the election. I think boris is very capable and i think he will do a good job. I can work with anybody. Im a very easy person to work with. I wonder what some of the leaders will make about that in private. He also told reporters that america would not be interested in including the nhs in any future trade tralks. I dont even know where that rumour started. We have absolutely nothing to do with it and we wouldnt want to. If you handed it to us on a silver platter, we want nothing to do with it. Regardless of president s trumps recent pledge labour leader Jeremy Corbyn condemned the idea of the nhs being run by american companies. Obviously, we want a Good Relationship with the usa but the trade talks being undertaken by the government have been done in secret and we do not accept any idea of us companies coming in to run our National Health service or the idea of extending the patients on medicine, which will increase the cost. Uk Prime Minister borisjohnson had this to say about the issue. That there was no question the nhs being involved in trade talks. A rule out or any part of the nhs will be on table at any trade negotiation. Including pharmaceuticals. Pure loch ness monster, Bermuda Triangle stuff that is continually raised by the labour party and one reason only. That with nine days to go, they want to distract from the fundamental issue at the heart of this election. Mea nwhle, protesters gathered on londons Trafalgar Square today to demonstrate against the us president s visit. One woman amongst the crowds told us she was sceptical about President Trumps pledge not to include the nhs in future trade negotiations. He said he doesnt want a lot of things and then he turns around and gets them anyway. I dont think that it is a case of deeds not words. Words are cheap. What weve had, we had this before where we hear the rhetoric and then we have a complete u turn. Our royal correspondent Daniela Relph is at Buckingham Palace. Presumably the reception is sort of doing billing away now at some of the leaders are departed. What have we seen during the course of this evening . Yes, it has now finished. The sort of party i suppose here at the palace is not over. But the leaders they came here and the parts that are now later have a pretty frosty reception from some of the protesters aware gathered outside Buckingham Palace. It was a small group, but it was a lively and there we re group, but it was a lively and there were a couple of scuffles. Many of them wanting to protest or have their say on a number of different issues, impacting on the various leaders who were inside Buckingham Palace. But this evening was essentially a moment when for a nonpolitical discussion really come a chance in a ratherformal setting but a more relaxed evening really, the queen hosting with a number of other senior members at the royal family, including Prince Charles, and the duchess of cornwall and kate, the duchess of cambridge, the host all of the nato leaders and their wives here for an hour or so inside Buckingham Palace. A little earlier today we spoke to the Prime Minister of norway who said how important she felt it was to have that kind of royal approval for this weekss celebrations of need tow because it gave an added impetus in status and having the queen show her support because it was important. Celebrations of nato. We see pictures there of the queen and some of the leaders. And Prince Charles and the duchess with him. No sign Prince Andrew, who has withdrawn from his public role for now. But he was present last time. A notable absentee this evening. He had a very Important Role last time donald trump was in the uk for the state visit back in june. Trump was in the uk for the state visit back injune. Then he was front and centre come at a number of engagements with the president , including hosting a business brea kfast including hosting a business breakfast with them, one morning. If things had been different, every hadnt taken a step back from his royal duties because of all of those rumours swirling around thejeffrey epstein scandal, i think because of his military background and his previous role as a global trade in boy, we would have seen Prince Andrew be very involved. Thats a global trade envoy. Thank you. This meeting of leaders of the nato countries comes amid growing tensions in the alliance. France is unhappy about what it sees as the lack of leadership from the us, while turkey is blocking moves to agree a plan for the defence of the Baltic States unless nato backs its fight against kurdish groups it considers terrorists. Our Diplomatic CorrespondentJames Robbins has more. Nato leaders are in london to celebrate 70 years of their alliance and joint success keeping the peace. But today this looked more like a family at war with itself. Frances president macron has been strongly critical of Donald Trumps role, and even called nato strategically brain dead. Today he stood by those remarks even after mr trump rebuked him publicly. Well, when you make a Statement Like that, that is a very, very nasty statement to make to, including them, to essentially 28 countries. I think that, you know, they have a very high Unemployment Rate in france. France is not doing well economically at all. In fact, the alliance faces another far larger threat to unity the military action by nato member, turkey, inside Northern Syria. Turkeys president erdogan is enraged nato isnt100 supportive of his fight against kurdish troops that he brands terrorists. President macron completely rejects the turkish position. When i look at turkey, they now are fighting against those who fight with us, shoulder to shoulder, against isis. 70 years ago when nato was established it all felt so much simpler. The american led alliance faced a single enemy, the soviet union underjosef stalin. It was soviet communism which eventually collapsed. Nato survived, but now struggles to agree its future role. Nato is the most successful alliance in history, because we have been able to change when the world is changing. That is exactly what we doing again, and the fact is that we are doing more together in this alliance now that we have done for many decades. All this is the backdrop to tonights reception at Buckingham Palace. The 29 nato leaders are gathering here, including President Trump. They are struggling for a way through profound present divisions, as well as trying to find consensus on how to face future threats. And well find out how this story and many others are covered in tomorrows front pages at 10 40 and 11 30 this evening in the papers our guestsjoining me tonight are caroline wheeler, deputy Political Editor of the sunday times and the assistant editor for the new statesman, george eaton. For the first time during this election campaignJeremy Corbyn has apologised for incidents of anti semitism in the labour party. He was criticised for refusing to do so four times in a recent interview with the bbcs andrew neil. Speaking on daytime tv mr corbyn said he was very sorry and insisted he was dealing with the issue. 0ur party and me do not accept anti semitism in any form. Obviously, i am very sorry for anything thats happened but i want to make this clear, i am dealing with it. I have dealt with it. The broadcasting regulator 0fcom has decided not to investigate a conservative Party Complaint against last weeks channel a debate on the climate crisis. The party had complained about the broadcasters intention to empty chair the conservatives with an ice sculpture. The media regulator said the use of the ice did not break rules on due impartiality and broadcasting during elections. Democratic Party Politicians in the us have released their report in the impeachment inquiry into President Trump. It accuses the president of misconduct and obstruction. However, republicans have released one of their own defending the president s actions and accusing democrats of an orchestrated campaign to upend our political system. Lets speak to Chris Buckler our correspondent who is in washington 110w. Correspondent who is in washington now. Chris, as ever this is the the biden party lines, not making it look like there is much of a consensus emerging on the committee as to whether or not this impeachment process should go to trial. Impeachment process should go to trial. The biden party lines bust up trial. The biden party lines bust up any hope of a consensus is long gone. Frankly, if you take a look of the democrats and republicans are saying about exactly the same evidence that was given by the same witnesses and 100 hours of testimony, it shows clearly that in washington, there are those who are behind President Trump, the republicans, and those who are determined to remove him from office, the democrats. It should be said that the official report that is come from the Intelligence Committee is the one that is being released today. This is the one from the democrats point of view, but it is because they are in charge of the Intelligence Committee and basically means that is the official one. It is pretty stark and what it says. Ss for example they have uncovered a month long effort by President Trump to use the powers of his office to solicit foreign interference on his behalf in the 2020 election. This all goes to what was requested by President Trump to ukraines President Trump to ukraines president zelensky, you might remember that he pushed him to launch an investigation into his political rival, joe biden, of course the joe political rival, joe biden, of course thejoe biden is one of the leading democrats hoping to be the president ial candidate for next year to ta ke president ial candidate for next year to take on donald trump. But he goes beyond that phone call. Something that appears to point out another pa rt that appears to point out another part of the report says our investigation determined that the telephone call was neither the start nor the end of President Trumps effo rts nor the end of President Trumps efforts to bend us Foreign Policy for his own personal gain. So it is pretty stark and all of this information has been gathered in this report and i will be handed over to thejudiciary this report and i will be handed over to the Judiciary Committee after a vote inside after the Intelligence Committee and wouldnt then be up to them to draw what are known as articles of impeachment, essentially these are charges against President Trump for a potential senate trial that could be held as early as january. Intriguing. Something to look forward to what will be election the air. 0n forward to what will be election the air. On that question of the election, the crowded field by democrat would be president ial candidates just got a little bit smaller. Yes. Kemal harris has decided to drop out. At the heart of it, it is about the fact that she simply does not have enough money. Kamala harris. These president ial campaigns, they are very expensive. But i have to say, if you said to me 11 month ago that Kamala Harris will be dropping out before we got two caucuses and primaries, i wouldve saidi caucuses and primaries, i wouldve said i cant really see it. She was somebody who was seen as a real early possibility for the presidency. Because she is very important to the democratic party. She trying to reflect modern america, and experience and political black woman who makes him 01 political black woman who makes him or her marks and some of the other debates but before the democrats even begin that process, of deciding who President Trump to take on, she is decided to bow out. Her campaign has had problems in the last couple of months. They have been suggesting for example that its been a disarray, one aid reside with a letter that suggested that there was no leadership, that staff are not being treated properly. But she said she will continue to keep on fighting not just for the she will continue to keep on fighting notjust for the voices of those she says who are not heard america, but for guiding bulimic fighting donald trump and anybody else who takes them on. Thank you. The headlines on bbc news. President trump says he wont get involved in the general election but insists the us isnt interested in the nhs being part of future uk us trade talks. As World Leaders meet to mark the 70th aninversary of nato, President Trump accuses president macron of france of being nasty about the organisation, but mr. Macron says he stands by his words. Still still scoreless in the premier league games. Thank you. More on the election now and throughout the campaign weve been focusing on parts of the uk where seats are expected to be closely contested. Today, were in the Northern Irish constituency of fermanagh and south tyrone. Its on the border with the Irish Republic which has been a huge issue in the brexit process. Clive myrie is in the market town of enniskillen for us this evening. We are here in the most westerly constituency actually in the whole of the United Kingdom, in the shadow of the imposing enniskillen castle. Now the seat of fermanagh and south tyrone has frequently been won with small majorities repeatedly flipping between nationalists flipping between nationalist sinn fein and the ulster unionist party. In 2017, michelle guildenough won the seat for sinn fein by just 875 votes. The iras bobby sands won the seat on Hunger Strike in prison in 1981 and he died less than a month later. And in the Eu Referendum vote, 59 of the population wanted to remain, but several businesses in the area concerned how their livelihoods could be affected if border checks are introduced. So brexit clearly on peoples minds in the election but dig a little bit deeper in a land where there has been no functioning government at stormont for close to three years, you will find other concerns, some very deep, that weigh heavy. This is divided soil. A land where the sun warms two beliefs. Rival loyalties that have caused past pain now play out in an election touched by brexit. This is literally the front line of the debate, a uk constituency that merges seamlessly with the european union. Eamon . And eamon fitzpatricks business straddles both worlds. We are in Northern Ireland now, and this is the republic . Yes. So this is the border . Yes. That man going past there, thats our southern postman. That the postman. The southern postman. From that side. Bringing, what, mail over here . Bringing mail over here. What is it you want to hear in this election thats going to make you feel any better . Well, isuppose, unfortunately, youre not going to hear about stormont, because theres nobody in stormont. Theres no one there, so its time people got their heads down together and put the Country First and said, listen here, come on, boys, this is what were going to have to do. The uncertainty over brexit is no good for anyone here. At enniskillens livestock market, republic of ireland farmers buy Northern Irish cattle. 0verall trade across the frontier is worth more than £1 billion to those north of the border. Frictionless trade means jobs, decent livelihoods, future. But theres an irony. This is the coverage in the aftermath of the referendum. Though the ramifications of brexit are most keenly felt in Northern Ireland, its the old ties that bind orange and green, unionist and nationalist, that swing elections here. It comes back down to the whole orange and green thing here. Its how all the elections that have passed have always ended up. So that sectarian divide transcends everything, even the evil of brexit . Even the upheaval of brexit . It does. But if issues of identity drive political action, are voters being best served . Enniskillens caritas choir is a Cross Community collective of catholics and protestants. The everyday concerns for some in both Northern Irelands communities on health care, schools, transport so many issues are too often ignored. 0ur Political Parties seem to speak up for what their party believes instead of representing the people here. Theyre in a Public Service position. Theyre elected to perform a service for the people. Itjust is appalling that nobody was there to fight the your battle. Thats about it. The resignation of tired voters, in one corner of the United Kingdom where the past too often dictates the future. The sun setting over the river here in enniskillen. We have been here for three orfour days now, trying to get a sense of how people are feeling in the run up to the election in nine days time. The hope is that there may be some kind of resolution perhaps to the brexit crisis, perhaps even to what is going on over at stormont. But i have to say, many people here dont believe any kind of resolution to both those problems is going to take place. That small friend on his jacket there was a microphone cover to stop there was a microphone cover to stop the wind noise. It is pretty cold there. The 12 year old boy killed in a hit and run outside a school in essex has been named locally as harley watson. Harley died after being was struck by a vehicle near Debden Park High School yesterday afternoon. A 51 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of his murder, as well as the attempted murder of five other people injured in the incident. Spotify has revealed its biggest songs, albums and artists of the last decade, with drake emerging as the most streamed artist of the 2010s. The canadian star racked up more than 28 billion streams, with his most popular song, 0ne dance, played 1. 7 billion times alone. It was dwarfed by ed sheerans shape of you, whose 2. 4 billion streams, made it the decades most listened to track. We can speak now to clare crane from bbc 6 music news. She joins us via webcam from salzburg in austria. Thank you for being with us this evening. Looking at these figures, how does it compare with the healthiness or otherwise of the music market more generally . Is it now really the main event . It certainly is. Streaming takes up 80 of industry revenue. 100 million subscribers once modify a loan and last year, subscribers once modify a loan and last yea r, 534 subscribers once modify a loan and last year, 534 billion the song cisterns. On spotify alone. Compare that with physical sales like cds and vinyls, which is having a revival. They are still only marking 534 million four cds, 225,000,004 vinyls. The gap is absolutely huge. A bit of difference between what is happening globally and in the uk. You do still get some distinctiveness of using markets. Not the fear that some people have that it would just be one he modulates music choice largely driven from the united states. We do still have our love for our uk artist. We like ed sheeran. I think there is a real unity and why these artists are so popular. That is because they are releasing a lot of music. They are responding to the way that we are consuming music. Rather than taking a lot of time to getan rather than taking a lot of time to get an album out, drake for example, top of the charts, he has released five albums but also released three teepees, six mixed tapes, and he he is putting loads of songs on there, 25 songs on an album. People have a lot of choice and they can stream his songs all day like. Im sure some of them do. Some quirky things in there. Fastest rising genre and the top podcasts genre comedy. In there.
