It stops you in your tracks hearing those people recounting not only the memories of the time and place but the legacy in terms of the guilt and how over the years, the struggles theyve had dealing with it. We hear theyve had dealing with it. We hear the number 96 all the time and when you break it down into who the 96 work, 37 teenagers, the youngest was ten yea rs work, 37 teenagers, the youngest was ten years old. If that disaster had happened today, it would have been caught on camera phones, itsjust incalculable effect it would on earth. 1989, the impact of those families would be exactly the same but youve got to remember it didnt end there for them. Its been a disaster. I say this regularly but its a disaster thats lasted 30 yea rs, its a disaster thats lasted 30 years, not just for them its a disaster thats lasted 30 years, notjust for them but the survivors. Who really been traumatised for years and years, some of whom were still traumatised now. You are in the court yesterday when the verdict was announced, Family Members there, what was the atmosphere like . Its a cliche, it was a moment of history but it was, the air was so charged before the verdict arrived at some of those families were crying before they even knew what was happening, the tension and anxiety which built up over the last weeks. Its a trial we heard in preston but relayed via video link. Lots of families watching as well. When David Duckenfield was found not guilty, he hugged his wife, he was able to go and see her. The gusts of families, there were audible sobs and there is one lady whose father died at hillsborough who got to the feet and shouted, i want to know who is responsible for killing my father. Real from the heart leave. Responsible for killing my father. Realfrom the heart leave. Many responsible for killing my father. Real from the heart leave. Many of them have been speaking outside the courtroom, and they now, if you like, they were hoping, we use that word. They are left now once again ina word. They are left now once again in a place they didnt want to be. Some of them have said it feels like theyve gone backwards and you need to look at what happened in 2016 when there were inquests into the depths which found the 96 were unlawfully killed so its a logical rationale which blows for these families which means if they were unlawfully killed, who broke the law . The charging of David Duckenfield for gross negligence manslaughter happened after those inquests. The inquestjury reached that finding of unlawful killing on the basis that he was responsible for the deaths, he gave evidence at that inquest which we heard played at this trial in which he accepted his actions had directly led to the deaths so for the families, there is a jigsaw puzzle that follows on. In law, this for them goes backwards and its a very painful verdict for them to hear but the cps said they respected the decision of the jury and thejury respected the decision of the jury and the jury except the defence case that David Duckenfield was unfairly singled up the prosecution. Does this mean no one will be convicted . Its does this mean no one will be convicted . Its hard does this mean no one will be convicted . Its hard to see where a gross negligence manslaughter case could go from here. The families brought their own prosecution 19 yea rs brought their own prosecution 19 years ago, that ended in a hung jury. This prosecution was underpinned by seven years of criminal investigations under 0peration resolve, its cost hundreds of millions of pounds and it has cost hundreds of thousands of pounds and involved many detectives. It is difficult to see where this could go. You spoke to some families after the verdict was given. What were they saying . They were destroyed. They have criticism about this prosecution because these families, ordinary people who were all brought together by this disaster, have become experts in the micro detail of what happened. They know every twist and turn. It wasnt there prosecution, it was a prosecution brought by the Crown Prosecution Service, by the state, by the ground. Some of them sat in the courtroom every day for weeks and weeks and were watching the prosecution closely. They have been very vocal about evidence that feel wasnt brought, the way the prosecution was handled, for them a huge frustration. For them, whether they go next . There is one postscript for you, in april there will be another trial. Its not for manslaughter or connected to the cause of hillsborough, it will look at the aftermath and allegations that stem from that. So that will happen in april. Really interesting hearing all of that. Thank you. Is 7 13am. Seven is looking at this mornings good morning, sarah. Sarah is looking at the weather. We have a cold, frosty start with some icy stretches to contend with this morning. 0ver icy stretches to contend with this morning. Over the next few days, eventually we are seeing a drier, sunny spell but you will certainly notice those temperatures are much lower than they have been recently. Though for today then after that cold, frosty start look at for those icy stretches. 0ne cold, frosty start look at for those icy stretches. One or two showers down the east coast of england are northern and eastern scotland. Some are wintry, and also the North York Moors. Ill start that again. The moors. Ill start that again. The moors in yorkshire. We have a lot of sunshine on offer, temperatures 38d. Sunshine on offer, temperatures 3 8d. So it is significantly colder thanit 3 8d. So it is significantly colder than it has been recently. That biting wind down the eased coast, you will really notice that start. Into this evening and tonight we have a bit of car down towards the south west, that is ahead of an approaching weather system here. Elsewhere, clear skies and another frost tonight. Temperatures well down, 4 or minus five degrees. Some fog and freezing fog patches. For most of us we have another fine, dry day, lots of High Pressure in charge. With this weather system working on from the south west is going to be bringing some rain, particularly parts of cornwall, devon and the Channel Islands as well. Susan went weather down towards the south west. The rest of us, dry winds, lots of dry weather. Freezing fog clearing away on saturday morning. 0ne freezing fog clearing away on saturday morning. One or two showers for northern and eastern scotland but elsewhere it is looking drier towards eastern parts of england compared to today. Top temperatures, 3 10 compared to today. Top temperatures, 3 10 degrees where we have that slightly milder our holding on in the south west. We keep outbreaks of rain across cornwall, devon and the Channel Islands, early clearing away as we move through the course of saturday night into sunday. By the time we get to sunday, this area of low pressure will put away towards the south and it is going to be High Pressure, needing the weather through the day on sunday. Still perhaps one or two showers across northern and eastern part of scotland, just a few brushing the east coast of england as well. But for most of us, another dry day. Morning fog, mist and frost in the morning. But at last, a return to sunny skies stop temperatures 4 8d on sunday, significantly colder than we have seen so far. Its been a very wet autumn for many of us but we are heading into the start of winter on sunday. And, into the first week of december it looks like things are set largely fairer. Dry weather but also a bit colder than it has been recently. Sarah, thank you very much. We will see you later on. Theres just a few hours left for First Time Buyers to apply for a saving scheme that could help them get on the housing ladder. Ninas got more on this one for us. It can be really hard buying your first house, counted . I remember five times years cant it . I remember i had to have five times my salary. The banks have shut down the generosity a little bit, it is now 3. 5 times. So the government are helping people get on the ladder for the first time stop this offer is going to close down in the next few hours. Lets have a look with our magical graphics at this first home buyers scheme. You have to be 16 or over to enter it, and you can put in £1, that is the minimum amount and the Interest Rate is pretty good, 2. 596 the Interest Rate is pretty good, 2. 5 depending on who you bank with. After that you can put into hundred pounds a month for up to five years, thatis pounds a month for up to five years, that is the maximum. Ive never done this before. And i matching the windows, look at that here is the real kicker though the government will then pay in an extra 25 of whatever you save when you take the money out to go towards your house. 37 maximum of over £12,000 overfive yea rs 37 maximum of over £12,000 overfive years they will stick in another three grand. Essentially, it is free money. They must have been doing something right because more than one quarter of a million homes have been helped by this scheme. 0ne one quarter of a million homes have been helped by this scheme. One of those people is laura who recently bought a two bedroom flat. I used it in 2015, i save £9,600, which meant i got £2400 from the government, which was fantastic. Some of the downsides were that i couldnt get the bonus until i completed on the property, which i didnt know at the time of opening the account. Which could have been problematic if i needed the funds beforehand. But i obviously kickstarted my savings for a property and i thought it was brilliant. I think its a real shame that its finishing this weekend. Which window was laura in . Top left, laura. So, on the face of it this scheme seems good. There was some convocations between complications between getting the cash and completing. You need to have your deposit on top of this cast, which would then go towards visa. So there was criticism that in the end it just visa. So there was criticism that in the end itjust went visa. So there was criticism that in the end it just went to visa. So there was criticism that in the end itjust went to people who we re the end itjust went to people who were already saving for a house in people who might have been helped by the bank of mum and dad said should the bank of mum and dad said should the government really be supporting those people . 0ther criticisms, too, laura suter is a personal finance expert. Because there is a cup of the value of the property you can buy, £250,000, anywhere in the uk apart from london where it is £450,000, that means in other areas like cambridge or brighton for example in the south east, you might be priced out of the area. It means you cant use the scheme entirely. So they brought in a new product to replace the help to buy isa and it has a blanket finding £50,000 limit anywhere in uk. That should smooth out some of those regional differences. So, nina, this is going. The deadline to apply for it. Will there be something in its place . There is a lifetime isa which you can use for buying your first home all putting towards a pension. But it is quite different. You cant open one until you are 18 and it shut down when you are 39, whereas the helped by one was 16 to any age and you could keep paying until youre 50. You get the same Interest Rate, it is lower, 1. 5 . And if you dont use it for a house or a pension you get a 25 penalty on the interest you have accrued, so is not necessarily as appealing. As for the helped to buy one, they are Still Available until tomorrow depending on the bank you want to use. Get in touch with them and find out the availability. Later, laura the personal finance expert will be joining us in the studio. If anyone has questions about buying the first home, which isa they could be saving up home, which isa they could be saving up to, get in touch through the usual means. And i suppose one of the things as if it doesnt start till 18, the whole idea of encouraging young people to save. Exactly. It feels like it has gone out the window. And the helped to buy did bring down the average age of buyers to 28. So it was helping. Thank you, nina. Youre watching breakfast. Still to come this morning well be discussing the first uk interview with the woman who claims she was forced to have sex with Prince Andrew allegations he categorically denies. Lets take a look at the travel situation now. 0n the tubes, there are problems on the metropolitan line. Theres no service between chesham and Chalfont Latimer with severe delays between amersham and rickmansworth. A dramatic drop in temperature today, it will be chilly but there will be the blue sky to enjoy. Still some cloud, early doors towards southern Home Counties but that will clear away. A lot of sunshine emerging right across the capital, a bit more cloud into the afternoon but not enough to spoil the sunshine. Top temperatures today only between 6 eight celsius, tempered by quite a cool northerly breeze. Now, overnight tonight we will see clear skies at first, some mist and fog patches for men, some of that fog is likely to be freezing fog, particularly towards Northern Home counties where it will be very slow to lift and clear through tomorrow morning. A widespread sharp frost tomorrow morning, temperatures ranging between freezing and as low as minus four celsius. So, in very chilly start to what will be a cold weekend. A row between the conservatives and channel 4 after a block of ice is used in place of borisjohnson during a tv debate on Climate Change. Well hear from the families of hillsborough victims as they react with outrage after the former South Yorkshire police chief David Duckenfield is cleared of manslaughter. The final countdown for First Time Buyers. There are just a few more hours left to benefit from the lucrative help to buy isa saving scheme ill be finding out how successful it has been and what you can do to be part of it. 0n the brink. Manchester bomb survivor Martin Hibbert will be here to tell us how hes promised to walk down the red carpet with Hollywood Star Chris Hemsworth and has already defied doctors who said hed never stand again. Good morning. We got some frost and icy stretches to contend with, a cold day ahead which sets up a cold weekend with sunshine on offer as well. All the details and about ten minutes. Its friday the 29th of november. Our top story. A major row has broken out between channel four and the conservative party, following last nights Leaders Debate on Climate Change. The tories have accused the broadcaster of bias and have complained to the regulator 0fcom after a block of melting ice was used in place of the Prime Minister, who had declined to take part. 0ur Political Correspondent, jessica parker, has more. Good evening. It is the Biggest Issue on the planet. A big debate on Climate Change with some notable absences and replacements. We kept the invitations open to the leaders of the conservative party and the brexit party. They have not taken up their places yet. Instead, a reminder. The ice caps are melting as politicians around the globe fail to cut Greenhouse Gas emissions in time to stop rising temperatures. The brexit party said it didnt take part because it didnt have faith in the broadcaster. The conservative party tried to send in someone else, quite literally. The senior cabinet minister and former environment secretary michael gove. But this debate, said channel 4, was for leaders only and now the tories have complained to 0fcom, saying they have been deprived of representation but labour says last night was another example of borisjohnson ducking scrutiny. Jessica parker, bbc news. Lets speak to our Political Correspondent helen catt, whos in westminster. Helen, the conservatives have had a few issues with the media recently havent they . Weve seen criticism of some of the things they have been doing. Now there is this row with channel 4. At every election since 2010 which is when tv debates became a thing, weve seen this sort of row stop it comes down to discussions between the individual broadcasters and politicians. So at this election, weve seen head to head debates with Jeremy Corbyn. There is another one on the bbc next week. He hasnt agreed to other big set pieces like for example a 30 minute forensic billing with the bbcs andrew neil. He was asked yesterday if you would commit to that. This is a big interview, all the other leaders have agreed to do it. Will you join them . I dont want to preempt any discussions that may be taking place but i look forward very much to their result. Is that yes or no . 0ther their result. Is that yes or no . Other people are getting involved in these conversations. Its not myjob to do it. They will be deciding and discussing. Expect that want to rumble on. There has been an twist in the channel for row suggesting a new government could review the broadcasting obligations but conservative sources say the licenses up for review anyway. Helen, lets remember, we are also in an election campaign, we are getting these policies given to us. What are we hearing today . The conservatives are making a big announcement on 0fsted, the service which inspect schools. Its worth saying they have had a significant cut in recent years. They also want to make inspections longer, move them from two days to three days. It would look at things like extracurricular activities, behaviour and bullying. Also possibly piloting a previously rejected suggestion of no notice inspections so you turn up without telling the school in advance. Labour are launching a series of regional manifestoes. John mcdonald was describing it as an investment its mainly aimed at Green Industries so there are plans for 12 elastic recycling plants for a project in the mersey and also for three battery manufacturing plants for electric vehicles. Conservative jake gary the Northern Powerhouse minister this is labour trying to distract from setting up plans on leaving the eu. The families of those who died in the 1989 Hillsborough Disaster have reacted angrily, after a jury cleared the match commander on the day of gross negligence manslaughter. It had been alleged David Duckenfield had a personal responsibility for what happened, as our correspondentJudith Moritz reports. David duckenfield has been a blame figure for 30 years, in charge at hillsborough when disaster happened. That he failed isnt in dispute but his trial ended with a not guilty verdict, and with tears for the hillsborough families. 96 people have found to have been unlawfully killed to a criminal standard by an inquestjury, and somebody has got to be held responsible for 96 deaths. The families have struggled to reconcile the two different core processes they have gone through. The crown courtjury did not accept the prosecution case that David Duckenfields failings were so exceptionally bad they were a substantial cause of the disaster. It comes four years after an inquest jury found that the 96 were unlawfully killed. Who put the 96 in their graves . Who is accountable for 96 unlawfully killed . What a disgrace this has been today. For the last seven years, hundreds of detectives have been gathering evidence into hillsborough. Costing £65 million, 0peration resolve is the longest ever criminal investigation in england. The hillsborough families say that over 30 years, opportunities have been missed to prosecute the full number of people and institutions which could have been held responsible for the disaster. With this trial, the jurors only had one man to consider, and they werent willing to make him solely responsible for the deaths. 96 men, women and children were killed. The youngest aged 10, the oldest a pensioner. Walk on, walk on. In 2016, the hillsborough families sang to the celebrate the unlawful killing finding at the inquests, but the 30 year journey of this disaster has taken many twists and turns, patience and sympathy tested again and again. Justice David Duckenfield has been on trial three times, including a private prosecution brought by the families 19 years ago. Theres some finality, then, in todays verdict. It means no one will be jailed for so many lives lost. Judith moritz, bbc news. The incoming owners of npower have announced Restructuring Plans. This is all the power npower really struggling and its owners feeling the impact of this and taking some action. Npower is one of the Big Six Energy companies and its about to be taken over by the German Energy giant eon and they said they have to restructure. Npower has lost 447,000 customers. This morning, the chief executive said the uk market is particularly challenging at the moment and with had to say repeatedly that we need to take action and for that reason we put together proposals and discussed them with the unions. The unions say it could mean a loss of 4500 jobs and the closure of a number of call centres. The power that the pa rent centres. The power that the Parent Company slashed its outlook partly because of npowers performance and a far more competitive market at the moment but this is the first weve heard of it so we will enter talks with unions. It is one of the big six, isnt it . Were going to be looking at all the other players and see how they are struggling and i should say. Returning to politics now. For the first time, the uks Political Parties have devoted a sizable chunk of their manifestos to policies aimed at mitigating Climate Change. Its an issue thats shot up the polls as one of the main factors being considered by voters. And thats something the Green Party Hopes to benefit from. Were joined now byjonathan bartley, the co leader of the green party of england and wales. Morning to you. An opportunity to chat through some thoughts. I just wa nt to chat through some thoughts. I just want to start if we could with events last night at the channel for debate. Borisjohnson events last night at the channel for debate. Boris johnson replaced events last night at the channel for debate. Borisjohnson replaced by a block of ice. What did you make of that . I think it was so disappointing that we face this biggest existential threat to this country and the Prime Minister wouldnt show up, notjust contempt opening for the next generation but also showing completely that he is unfit to run this country. If you wont engage in what is the biggest transformation of the economy we have to make and how were going to do it, if you want, and be accountable for the governments failure to meet the distant target which we know even if we dont hit it will result in a 50 50 chance of runaway Climate Change, that speaks volumes about his unfitness for office. You said clear link between him not deciding to be there and the commitment if there is any from the conservative party. Its so clear this government has failed and failed, whether it be cutting the feed in tariffs for solar, trying to push force fracking on this country, making it harder to have onshore wind, this government is not taking its commit on seriously and it must be held to account. Channel4 devoted an entire debate albeit without the Prime Minister to Climate Change. Do you think in a way that given how much attention is being given by the other main parties now over Climate Change, do you think that some of what you stand for in the green party, they are occupying some of your territory . Its clear the green party has set the agenda for this election, the political voice of school strikers, extinction rebellion, and saying weve got to set the bar high and this is urgent in the debate has shifted. We heard a lot of warm words last night that little in policy detail. They are talking the talk but not walking the talk. Labour have come a long way but even their proposals are half the size of what we are proposing and they have abandoned that crucial 2013 at zero target and that should be of concern to everyone. We will come to some specific pledges but in terms of the suggestion that they are playing lipservice, that has been an accusation for a long time. Are they still doing that . We talk to voters all the time and issues that matter. Brexit of course but alongside that, so many people now saying Climate Changes at the top of the agenda. Do you think they are saying that to appease people . There is that concern, we are in the middle of a general election. What happens when the cameras have come issue. All we get distract again into brexit. Important though that issue is. We need whole scale transformation. My question is, do you trust them. When you stand and make pledges. Do you trust any of the major parties on their pledges . Hand on heart, i dont trust them. Even the pledges they are putting forward. We need to look at the scale of the Marshall Plan or the banking crisis of the new deals that roosevelt put forward in the 1930s. We need to look at a better way of living, the way we can cut bills, provide cheap, good quality public transport, better food on provide cheap, good quality public transport, betterfood on the provide cheap, good quality public transport, better food on the table and support people to make that transition in security and safety andi transition in security and safety and i dont see even the proposals, even though the other parties wont deliver on them. Some parties say look at your apostles and the escalation, your proposals, and they think that in itself is unrealistic. We are not at that place yet. We have to be at this place right now. The question is not will be invest this money, the question is when will we do it . Well make the savings and create the security. Its a question of when, not if in the prudent thing to do is to make the prudent thing to do is to make the investment. You know generations will benefit from a hospital. Weve been very front about what we need to do and where we get the money from and i think people find that refreshing in a time where people are figuring Milling Around with the figures. Weve been very honest about the scale of investment we have to see. I mean, its one thing talking about your manifesto pledges. Its obvious you are not trying to be Prime Minister. Is that fair . There is still two weeks left. The reality of where we are now, you are ina the reality of where we are now, you are in a position where they were standing down. If i am in a constituency, may a new supporter of the green party and i want to vote green, why is it acceptable for you to ta ke green, why is it acceptable for you to take that candidate off the list that i could choose from. |j to take that candidate off the list that i could choose from. I think what they want to see more than anything is green members of parliament in the house of commons holding whatever government have government we have. Getting that old action and by working with the liberal democrats which is what you are referring to, its our best chance of getting more green mps in the house of commons. You are favouring exit over the thing you hold most dear. Youre putting brexit at the top of the agenda. Remaining in the European Union and is one of the crucial paths to tackling the Climate Emergency. Putting forward the screen you deal in the uk, we want other countries to follow suit, we want to show leadership and so they can work with our partners but also maintain those crucial Environmental Standards that we won through being in the European Union for our own country. So the big picture, we have talked about, some of the things that will affect peoples lives personally, one of the areas we talk about a lot is flying. Flights. You have proposals that affect tax on flights, regular flyers. Can you flesh out what the idea is . The first one is two and the massive subsidy the aviation gets through our taxes. There is no tax on Aviation Fuel, so we need a carbon tax. Lets tax Aviation Fuel in the way we tax other fuel. Lets recognise 70 of the flights are taken by 15 recognise 70 of the flights are ta ken by 15 of recognise 70 of the flights are taken by 15 of the people. Lets have a frequent flyer levy. The more flights you take the more that increases. We are all paying for the privilege, their privileges. increases. We are all paying for the privilege, their privileges. If you area grandparent privilege, their privileges. If you are a grandparent and you have a family live in spain a new take three flights a year to go and see them, how much extra you going to charge those people . Obviously we wa nt to charge those people . Obviously we want to set it at a row that is going to affect a man, so we would need to pilot it before we could set absolute fixed rates. But what is clear whether you take one flight or five or ten, the cost to us all, the cost to the environment and the potential existential threat to the Climate Emergency is something were going to have to face up to whether we like it or not stop we are being absolutely clear about that. Either carbon is massively put into the atmosphere by flying or it is not. We have to recognise that cost and factor that into the way we structure our tax system. We are interviewing Party Leaders here on the breakfast sofa. Where does your driver is a politician come from . wa nt to driver is a politician come from . want to the world. I fear for the future of my children, my three children. They fearfor future of my children, my three children. They fear for the future of our soul and what we face moving forward. I dont think there has been anywhere near enough urgency over what is facing us right here on our doorstep. Weve seen the floods, we seen whats happening in venice, australia, california. Claimant breakdown is right here right now. I fear we are sleepwalking into disaster and we need leadership in this country today because in the right direction before it is delayed. You had a confrontation with David Cameron in 2010. This was a moment in time, can you explain to people what that was . Yeah. So my son is disabled, he was taken to hospital during the 2010 election. We were on our way there and we saw some vans parked by the side of the road. It turns out David Cameron was giving a speech. I think we can see a little bit of a now and then you can explain more. How are you going to fix it . How are you going to make it easierfor children . To fix it . How are you going to make it easier for children . It is provided by somebody separate. See dont get what you want, you get what you need. But what your ma nifesto what you need. But what your manifesto actually says is you want to reverse the bias towards the inclusion of children in mainstream schools. Look at your own ma nifestoes. Schools. Look at your own manifestoes. Just explain, because that was a moment i think for you personally, a big marker in terms of your personal views on how you went about business in politics. Your personal views on how you went about business in politicsm your personal views on how you went about business in politics. It was a tipping point. The day after that i looked at the Party Manifestoes and ijoined the green party. It came after a two year battle that we had to get our son into the local school because he was disabled. We won but i had to take two years out of my life to fight that. It turned out the conservative manifesto wanted to make it harder for children to get into their local schools and i had read the manifesto, i had this chance confrontation. It was set up by the conservative party has wanted my son in the wheelchair and asked ifi my son in the wheelchair and asked if i would mind having a picture taken with David Cameron, they kind of brought me over. It was an opportunity quite by chance that we will never get again but in that debate, in that evening, the debate in that evening, there was the question about disabled children. Within the middle of the general election we had a debate about disabled children. That is never going to happen again because we dont have these is that really matter like the Climate Emergency, until now, like the disabled, in the forefront. Its all of these proposals about tax giveaways and spending, we need to change the system. If you change the system, you change lives. And people might not know about you that you play the drums . I do. I say that like its a hobby, but you have ten albums . Youve played at glastonbury . hobby, but you have ten albums . Youve played at glastonbury . I am a member of via mustangs. I was always torn between music and politics and items when we play gigs, he introduces me asjonathan was always torn between music and politics but when he found out how much sex and drugs was in politics, he went into politics. Its not true, but. Quite a good line. Liam gallagher has just quite a good line. Liam gallagher hasjust come out, quite a good line. Liam gallagher has just come out, saying he would vote green, i would love to have a green super band together. Liam, if you are watching. Are you working on being the coolest leader at the moment . I think any politician that tries to be cool cant come too far. We are what we are in the green party, we are trying to hide it does make are not trying to hide it. We are not trying to hide it. Lets ta ke we are not trying to hide it. Lets take a look outside the studio. Wowzers its a bit damp and cold, but the water is still beautifully reflecting the sky. Good morning to you, sarah. Good morning. We have some beautiful sunrises out there. A serene start of the day. We had air working in overnight and that is bringing us eventually some dry weather. 0ver bringing us eventually some dry weather. Over the next few days it is drier, sunnier, that means it is also feeling much colder too. So to also feeling much colder too. So to a mighty statistic and had with this morning on untreated services, particularly to parts of the midlands and Eastern England as well. After that cold, frosty start of the day today, places was the dry weather. Not just of the day today, places was the dry weather. Notjust everywhere, though. Northern and eastern scotland, down the east coast of england, a little bit wintry 0hio ground here. For much of the uk it is going to be a dry day. Big cloudier towards the four south west, temperatures around about 3pm this afternoon significantly colder than they have been recently. So around about three happen seven degrees most of us, a little bit milder down the south west. Into this evening and overnight again, a cold one, cloud free for many places. That means were going to seize a mist and fog patches, maybe even some freezing fog donna crossed and sharp fog. Temperatures dipped to 4 or five degrees quite widely this morning. Milder again towards the far south west where you have got a little more cloud keeping things frost free. Lets take a look at the weekend then. We have High Pressure holding on, lots of dry weather in store. This weather front will be working in towards the south west on saturday so it wont be dry across the board. If you are in cornwall down towards the channel isles, later on into devon as well you are likely to see some of that wet weather and quite busy too. Away from the far south west for the rest of the uk, morning, freezing fog slowly lifts and lifts, it could be carted for a time. Frosty start as well but a lot of dry weather on the cards for saturday. Again, pretty chilly, most of us about three happen eight degrees, milder in the south west. 0ne happen eight degrees, milder in the south west. One or two showers across the north east of scotland. As we look to saturday evening and overnight into sunday if we focus on the south west, rain totals will be amounting up. There could be a lot of lying surface water, all of that falling on pretty well saturated ground. The front moves to the south as we move into sunday. High pressure dominating our weather through the second half of the we can. A few showers across the north and north east of scotland, a few showers down the east coast of england as well. Morning frost once again and some dense fog patches here and there. They should certainly clear away. Most of us about 4 8d on sunday, feeling warmer where you get the sunshine but significantly colder where it has been. That is the way it looks when we start the new working week, some frost and fog in the forecast but at last we are seeing something drier and sunnier as we look towards the start of winter. Back to you both. Sarah, thank you very much. The metropolitan police have confirmed they will not be conducting further enquiries into allegations of people trafficking for Sexual Exploitation relating to the late us financier jeffrey epstein. The case, which has rocked the royal family, comes ahead of a panorama interview with Virginia Roberts giuffre, who claims to have been brought to the uk as a teenager and forced to have sex with Prince Andrew, a claim he categorically denies. That was a really scary time in my life. The bbc speaks to the woman who says she was forced to have sex with Prince Andrew, an allegation the prince categorically denies. He knows what happened. I know what happened, and there is only one of us telling the truth. Panorama the prince and the epstein scandal. Monday at nine on bbc one. We can speak now to the former Buckingham Palace press secretary Dickie Arbiter, who is in our london newsroom. Thank you very much, Dickie Arbiter was speaking to us on breakfast. We spoke to you last weekend about how this is reflecting on the royal family and Prince Andrew. How is your view changed much . It hasnt changed much, but since talking last week, Prince Andrew has stepped back from all public duties. What Buckingham Palace a, for the foreseeable future. How long the foreseeable future. How long the foreseeable future. How long the foreseeable future is . How long is a piece of string . 0nly foreseeable future is . How long is a piece of string . Only time will tell. The whole scandal is bound to rub off slightly on them but they are going about their business as usual in the best way they can. They are out and about, there is some good, positive press today because my paper, there has been previous papers during the week. So i think weve got to separate the two. One is an issue with Prince Andrew and the royal family carrying is an issue with Prince Andrew and the royalfamily carrying on is an issue with Prince Andrew and the royal family carrying on as normal. And the met police have confirmed on the record on thursday they are going to be conducting further inquiries into the allegations of people trafficking for Sexual Exploitation relating to jeffrey epstein. Does that offer any relief to the royal family or to Prince Andrew or the green . Well, i think the met police were onto nothing because they were following up nothing because they were following up an enquiry from the fbi. They took legal advice from the Crown Prosecution Service and were told that as allegations were coming from another country, where they had no jurisdiction, there was no room for an enquiry in the met police. So they havent pursued any mind of enquiries. Youve got to remember that these allegations, the allegation from Virginia Roberts giuffre, terrible what she went through under the epstein regime, but if the allegation is true that she had sex with Prince Andrew at aged 17, in the uk at the age of consent is 16 and certain states of the United States it is 21. So there was no case to answer for you. As far as sex trafficking, well, again since such time the fbi interviewed the duke of york, until such time, the duke of york, until such time, the victims lawyers interview the duke of york, you are going to get any further. At the moment it seems to bea any further. At the moment it seems to be a trial by television. Two weeks ago we had an interview with the duke of york, on monday we have an interview with Jamie Roberts guthrie. In the public are going to make up their own mind but they have other issues to make up their mind on, the general election in two weeks. That may well be the case, but the royal family is seen as a figure of stability in the uk and something that can be relied on, an institution that can be relied on. This is shaking those foundations, isnt it . It is marginally shaking the foundations. Yes, people look up to the royal family to lead by example because youve got one rotten egg, doesnt mean to say the whole family are rotten eggs. I think everybody will agree that the queen is above reproach, as is the prince of rails, the duke of york, the duke and duchess of sussex who are away at the moment, and the cou ntess are away at the moment, and the countess of wessex. One rotten egg doesnt mean the rest of them are rotten. Is it fair to goal the duke of york a rotten egg at the moment . After that a buckle of that particular interview, yes he is saying he is prepared to talk if required, where his words. While im sure he is required by both the fbi and the Legal Advisers from the victims the debacle. The sooner he does it the better. The more it drags on, the more bad press comes about. Dickie arbiter, thank you so much. Royal press secretary for Buckingham Palace. We should remind you you saw a clip of it before the interview, you can see the prince and the epstein scandal on bbc one at nine oclock. Time now to get the news, travel and weather where you are. Good morning from bbc london, im tarah welsh. Thousands of cab driver applications are still being investigated after a cash for qualifications scandal was exposed by bbc london. Secret recording showed colleges selling a guaranteed pass in exams. As a result, transport for london has frozen hundreds of licences whilst it reviews things. But thats left many drivers who say theyve taken exams legitimately unable to work. Im suffering because i have no job, no, nothing to do. Ive got children. I every day i am just thinking about this. Ok, maybe tomorrow im going to receive the badge, i have to work, i have to do something. And commuters will be dissapointed to hear that strike action on South Western Railway will go ahead from monday after talks to stop it failed. Members of the rmt union are due to walk out for 27 days, in a long running dispute over the role of guards. Swr said it had promised to keep guards on trains and would do Everything Possible to keep customers moving. Kingstonian are the only london side playing in the second round of the fa cup this weekend. They are in the seventh tier of english football. But theyre just one more win away from possibly playing a premier league team in the competition. Theyve had a tough time and this is the time for the fans to enjoy. The need to use it as a string springboard to take them forward. Lets take a look at the travel situation now. Theres a good service on the tube this morning. There are some delays on London North Eastern Railway out of kings cross this morning. On to the roads, the m25 is at a standstill approaching junction 13 all the way back tojunction 12. Now the weather with elizabeth rizzini. Hello, good morning. Its been unseasonably mild of late and a very wet month so far. But its all change today, a dramatic drop in temperature, so feeling really very chilly but there will be lots of blue sky and sunshine to enjoy. Now, our weather front they gave us all the cloud, the outbreaks of rain yesterday still pulling its way southwards, still some cloud early doors towards southern Home Counties, but that will clear away. Lots of sunshine emerging right across the capital, a bit more cloud into the afternoon but not enough to spoil the sunshine. Top temperatures today only between 6 eight celsius, tempered by quite a cool northerly breeze. Now, overnight tonight we will see clear skies at first, some mist and fog patches forming. Some of that fog is likely to be freezing fog, particularly towards Northern Home counties where it will be very slow to lift and clear through tomorrow morning. A widespread, sharp frost developing, temperatures ranging between freezing and as low as minus four celsius, so, a very chilly start to whats going to be a cold weekend. A cool, easterly wind setting up, maybe one or two showers on sunday. Good morning welcome to breakfast with Naga Munchetty and charlie stayt. Heres a summary of this mornings main stories from bbc news. Some breaking news. Unions have said fear that thousands ofjobs could lost at the energy firm npower after a Restructuring Plan was announced by incoming owners eon this morning. Unions fear up to 4,500 jobs could be lost, 0ur and several call centres closed. Eon have not confirmed the job loss figures but have said the uk Energy Market is particularly challenging citing the Energy Price Cap as one factor. Npower has lost 447,000 customers so far this year with the company also losing rivals to smaller energy companies. Unions this morning have asked the government to consider the impact that the Energy Price Cap is having onjobs. The families of those who died in the Hillsborough Disaster have reacted angrily, after a jury cleared the match commander on the day of gross negligence manslaughter. It had been alleged David Duckenfield had a personalresponsibility for what happened. Its the third time hes been on trial since 1989. As the verdict was read out, there were gasps and tears in court from the families of some of those who died. A major row has broken out between channel 4 and the conservative party, after a block of ice was used in place of borisjohnson during a tv debate on Climate Change. The broadcaster rejected minister Michael Goves attempt tojoin the programme, saying it was only for Party Leaders. The conservatives have complained to the regulator 0fcom, accusing channel four of bias. We can speak now to the conservatives Gavin Williamson. We we re we were talking about the channel for debate yesterday evening. Where was more important borisjohnson to be rather than representing the conservatives as leader of this country one of the biggest facing our time. Its a country one of the biggest facing ourtime. Its a bit country one of the biggest facing our time. Its a bit of a shame that channel 4 decided to using make of an ice block. Notjust for ourselves but the brexit party as well. Hes done more in the issue of Climate Change, delivered more change than any other politician in the debate was poorer for not having him there at the Prime Minister is very much engaged in a whole range of debate. He has been on itv, another one, hoping to be on andrew marr at the weekend stop there is an awful lot of opportunity to have a debate but asa of opportunity to have a debate but as a Prime Minister questions, there is only so much time. Where was more important to him to be . The Prime Minister is out in the country, delivering on britains potential. Taking the message right across the country. The Prime Minister is co nsta ntly country. The Prime Minister is constantly engaged in debate, co nsta ntly constantly engaged in debate, constantly engaged in debate, constantly engaged with the environment, its the heart of our ma nifesto, environment, its the heart of our manifesto, planting more trees, delivering net zero carbon, making a real difference. He would have reached more people if he did it on national television. As i say, he is a politician that has done more. It was fitting he was there. Its a shame terminal 4 decided to slam the door in his face. Many of the tv debates that go on, you are allowed to build a substitute. There was a little bit of grandstanding. I hope they wouldnt do it in the future. The telegraph and buzzfeed report that the Prime Minister is threatening to review the license of channel view channel 4. Threatening to review the license of channelview channel4. Licenses up channelview channel4. Licenses upfor channelview channel4. Licenses up for negotiation in 2024. Lets just part of the course of what goes ahead with an official complaint has been made to 0fcom and that is an appropriate way to deal with it. That sounds like a threat to channel 4. The licenses always been there to be reviewed so there is no change whatsoever in terms of that but 0fcom is therefore people who issue with the broadcaster which is a shame if they do that they have an independent regulator, they are able to go to and talk to. That is a perfectly respectable thing to do. Many parties raise their concerns with 0fcom. Raising concerns with 0fcom. Thats why you have independent regulation. Its to be able to safeguard peoples interest. Its able to safeguard peoples interest. Its something we all welcome and im sure the bbc, itv, channel or all welcome the work 0fcom does. Im sure the bbc, itv, channel or all welcome the work ofcom does. One more question because i want to get onto education. Boris johnson more question because i want to get onto education. Borisjohnson so far hasnt made clear if going to take pa rt hasnt made clear if going to take part in the leaders interviews. Still in discussions with the bbc about the interview with andrew neil and they are also very much wanting to have an interview with andrew marr on sunday. Both of these are giants of interviewers and certainly equally as intimidating. Is that yes . They are still in discussions with the bbc. Im not involved in those discussions but the Prime Minister is very much hoping to be on the andrew marr show. Hopefully the bbc would allow him to come on to be interviewed and discussions continue to go on. Education secretary, lets talk about your plans. There is a plan now for no notice inspections of schools. Why is that necessary . What we are planning to do is see if this works. There are certain situations where there may be particular concerns about a school than what its doing and the ability to have no notice inspection is important to have that there and have that as a key part of there and have that as a key part of the toolbox as 0fsted has added something that has been raised in the past and we listened to them and responded whats more important is the £10 million we are spending on 0fsted, raising the standard and the quality of inspection this schools will have on looking at some of the larger schools, both secondary and larger schools, both secondary and larger primary schools, making sure they are getting discipline right within their schools, making sure they are delivering the full range of enrichment bodies, whether is pe and sports and making sure it is a better assessment of school does. You say you are listening. They had Teachers Union the naht say inspections are driving teachers away from the profession. Many are leaving because of the pressure of teaching and the teaching system and a lot of that is down to the high stakes a lot of that is down to the high sta kes nature of a lot of that is down to the high stakes nature of inspection. Have you spoken to that union . We are making sure we take on everyones views and thoughts on this process but what you have is quite a contrast. You have a conservative party that ricky rises that 0fsted does an amazing job in terms of driving standards in schools. This was set up in the 19905 and supported by new labour governments and gordon brown and a5 a request of the unions, basically labour and the liberal democrats are saying they will abolish 0f5ted and this will see a dumbing down in term5 this will see a dumbing down in terms of standards because you are asking 152 local authorities to have separate regimes with no common standard and you will see a dumbing down, a reduction in standard and the more concerning area is in terms of children who are most vulnerable, those children who are in care and childrens homes. 0fsted inspect all of these homes, making sure there is proper regulated care. What you are planning to do. You are talking of to me about what labour wants to do. You and is talking about no notice inspections on the number of teachers, kevin courtenay, thejoint general secretary of the National Education union has said, unmanageable workload, excessive accountability and restraint on pay is created the teacher recruitment and retention crisis entirely of the governments own making. They are under pressure and you dont seem to be acknowledging this. What we do acknowledge is that we need to be doing more per teachers, making sure we set at 30,000 new starting salary to encourage people into profession the work weve done with all the Teachers Unions and they had Teachers Unions and they had Teachers Unions and they had Teachers Unions in terms of reducing workload. And we are already seeing major progress being made in the number of hours worked in schools being reduced for teachers but we recognise weve got to do more but its also about standards of education for children. Weve got to make sure children get the very best education. 0fsted is an important pa rt education. 0fsted is an important part of doing that. Weve got to make sure children in care are properly safe guarded and local authorities on bailing them. By abolishing 0fsted, you making those children more vulnerable and making sure the constant dreyfuss standards is going to be. Thats what labour wa nts to is going to be. Thats what labour wants to do but i want to talk about what you guys are doing. Under a conservative government, weve spoken to teachers and ministers, pa rents spoken to teachers and ministers, parents and teachers getting in touch with us. Have you checked to make sure the number of parents who are buying pens, pencils, workbooks, toilet rolls because under a conservative government schools are lacking so much funding, are you checking if that number is going down or rising . We recognise things have been tight for schools and we are putting in extra money and means over a 3 year. There is going to be continuous increase in terms of funding per people and by the end of that period, you are going to have a record amount of money spent per pupil on education both in cash terms and real terms. Pupil on education both in cash terms and realterms. In pupil on education both in cash terms and real terms. In three yea rs, terms and real terms. In three years, no parents or teachers will have to use their money to provide basic amenities for schools . What i can absolutely promise is that the pupilfunding, can absolutely promise is that the pupil funding, for every child can absolutely promise is that the pupilfunding, for every child in this country, it will be higher in real terms and in cash terms than its ever been before, the highest level of funding, that is what the iss study revealed and shows we are delivering on. Gavin williamson, thank you very much. Lets just whisk you away for a moment for a wonderful rescue story which will hear about in just a moment. This is mitzi the jack russell with alan whitton. Mitzi was pulled out, look at that moment. And they are both going to be here in a view minutes. I dont know who was more delighted, the dog or the owner. We will hear the whole tale of the rescue and those agonising days when mitzi was missing. Is only a year old, little sweetheart. That is nice. Do you need a moment, do you need a glass of water . That is just so pure. Back in the arms of its owner. The and so loyal as well. Are, loyalty. Huge problems for the arsenal boss unai emery as speculation over his future intensifies. They lost in the Europa League last night 2 1 at home to Eintracht Frankfurt, in a stadium that looked half empty. Arsenal are now without a win in seven games, thats their longest winless run since 1992. The club had previously said theyd give emery more time to turn things around, but plenty of fans want him out. Now our moment is not good. We need to achieve confidence and i think we are better than we are showing, but everybody, the players and the coaches and me, and now we lost some confidence but we need to win. The first half was good and the second half again, also we started very well. Well, if unai emery is sacked, one man whos amongst the favourites to replace him is the wolves boss Nuno Espirito santo. His side are through to the knockout stages of the Europa League after a thrilling 3 3 draw with braga in portugal. Wolves had led 3 1 at one point but were pegged back, and can still win their group. Celtic confirmed top spot in their group with a game to spare. They made light work of rennes at celtic park, beating them 3 1. It means neil lennons side will avoid the Champions League dropouts in the next round. However, Steven Gerrards rangers still have work to do. They drew 2 2 away at feyenoord and nowjust need to avoid defeat in their final game to qualify. Elsewhere, Manchester United, who were already through lost 2 1 at astana. The rain got in the way of the second test between england and new zealand. England have plenty to prove after a thumping defeat in the first test, and their bowlers started well, stuart broad and then chris woakes amongst the wickets early on in hamilton. But then tom latham took over for the hosts, scoring an unbeaten 101 before rain stopped play with new zealand 173 for three. Theres been an injury to ben stokes as well, he was only able to bowl two overs. Now, we all love a good statue, mostly when theyre bad. And you might remember one was unveiled for Zlatan Ibrahimovic outside his home town club, malmo, where he made his footballing debut. Well, furious fans have vandalised it after hearing that hes invested ina rival club a toilet seat was eventually placed on the head of the £3. 5 million bronze statue. Thats not dignified thats not dignified its a halo i dont think they were trying to make it look like a halo. They later tried to set it on fire. Ibrahimovic has bought 25 of the shares in hammarby, who are big rivals of malmo. It doesnt seem at like an appropriate response to set fire to the thing. Im trying to see the positive, you sure it not a halo . Heres sarah with a look at this mornings weather. Good morning weve had a real change in weather. 0vernight, colder air has been working its way south across the country so you may feel like its been raining most every day for the past three months or so. Not too farfor some day for the past three months or so. Not too far for some places, but over the next few days things are eventually getting much drier. There is more sunshine in the forecast but also quite a lot of cold, you will notice that this morning. Some icy stretches to get on with as well, so ta ke stretches to get on with as well, so take care in the morning commute, there could be some slippery surfaces around. Its not dry everywhere today, still a few showers around the northern and eastern part of scotland where it could be a bit wintry. If you sell down the east coast of england as well, the North York Moors could see a little bit of sleet and snow for a time stop. I was in the east should fade away later on. And youve dry, sunny weather but at 3pm to because only about 3 7d for most of us. Mulder towards the far south west where we have slightly mild our holding on for longer. Clear skies for many of us, lots of dry weather with light winds, the recipe for another cold night ahead. Quite a widespread frost tonight, you can see the blue colours on the map minus 4 minus five degrees, some freezing fog patches around, and that for fog lingering. A fly in the ointment for saturday, we will see some wet weather across the south west of england but High Pressure holding onto the rest of the uk. Dry, sunny weatherfor northern ireland, much of scotland, still one or two shelves in the far north. The mist and fog patches lingering for a good part of the day potentially but they should tend to clear away, even sunny skies during the afternoon. Top temperatures saturday, pretty chilly compared to what was seen recently, so about 38d, what was seen recently, so about 3 8d, milder where we got the cloud in the outbreaks of rain. The lights of cornwall, devon and Channel Islands rainfall totals mounting up here to saturday, there could be some localised flooding. That rain eventually does clear towards the south, though as we head into sunday. So we lose the weather front from the south and it is this big area of High Pressure that is going to be dominating our weather through the day on sunday. So largely dry to the day on sunday. So largely dry to the second half the weekend, not bone dry, just the odd show of the northern and eastern scotland. 0ne or two for the is coast of england we have a breeze coming of the north sea. Elsewhere, largely dry. Deliveries in the far south a time but some sunshine, clearing any mist and fog patches. After a frosty start, temperatures 4 8d. So a real change in weather type as you head to the weekend at the start of next week too, it is colder, sunnier but at last some dry weather on the cards. Lager and tarlee. At last some dry weather on the cards. Lagerand tarlee. Sarah, thank you very much. There was a pause because we were slightly distracted by our gorgeous next guest. It was definitely worth a look. This is mitzi. Very comfortable in front of the cameras. This is a bit annoyed with dave behind the camera. She was looking down the lens rather beautifully. Mitzi and alan are here. This is a wonderful story, alan. You are reunited but there was some trauma along the way. Please explain what happened. She was chased by another dog in the woods that i walk around stop she just went to ground and disappeared off the face of the earth. She went into a storm drain foxhole. So we dug up the foxhole. Just the happiest moment of my life. Even if you lose a pat for a short period of time, half a day, three days in your case, its awful. Half a day, three days in your case, its awful. Its a horrible period of time. It was like a nightmare i couldnt wake up from. I know it sounds corny but it was absolutely hideous. Mitzi was made just relaxing now. Enjoying a little scratch. She wants to get down and go places, thats the problem. So is mitzi always getting into trouble . She certainly has a lot of character. She is quite good but i think i was a bit too love a fair with the lead, she will be on the lead a bit more to three with the lead. A lot of people got involved. Its lead. A lot of people got involved. Its the kindness of strangers. People get involved and help out. Its the kindness of strangers. People get involved and help outlj wasnt expecting it. There were hundreds, perhaps thousands of shares on the internet and charts i hadnt seen since 1985, since school chaps, they came searching for two hours. Family friends were searching at night and people i didnt even know. Someone brought in a vet, running up vets to see if she had been handed in. She is ok now. There we go mitzi, can you see dave . M friends with dave over there . There we go mitzi, can you see dave . It is interesting how dogs react to the studio. Sometimes they are tuned into the movement, and other times they just lie down into the movement, and other times theyjust lie down and go to sleep. She does have energy. We will be getting her a gps tracker as well, like a little dongle. She is microchip but you have to hand the dog into a vet in order to. Unions fear that more than 4,000 jobs could be lost at the energy firm npower after a Restructuring Plan was announced by incoming owners eon this morning. Eon have not confirmed the job loss figures, but have said the uk Energy Market is particularly challenging. Ninas here with some more details. Tell us a bit more . Really worrying for employees waking up. Npower is one of the Big Six Energy companies. The deal has been signed with another one of the big six, eon, who are about to take over. We knew things were not looking good for npower. They have lost 450,000 customers this year. Yesterday their current owner had to radically reduce their profit forecast. This morning eon issued a statement about restructuring, describing the uk market is particularly challenging and saying all necessary action will be taken to return the business to profitability. They have been discussing them with unions. They have not mention specificjob loss numbers. Unions have said itll be up numbers. Unions have said itll be up to 4500 jobs and the potential closure of some call centres. You mentioned at the big six, these energy providers. How is this going to affect it . The industry says it is struggling with the price caps being imposed. Earlier this year off gem, the energy regulator, lowered the price for customers who didnt switch. That tariff was reduced. Some households saved £75 a year. Good news for consumers. The businesses have taken a hit. They are losing out through smaller companies. Gmb, one of the unions, says the government needs to look at this because skilled jobs are at sta ke. This because skilled jobs are at stake. The Largest Union in the country has said the market is in danger of collapsing and wanted renationalised. None of these figures have been confirmed this morning by eon or npower. Workers will be informed at about 9 15am about the details. Really worrying for many of them coming up to christmas. Thank you. But this debate, said channel 4, was for leaders only and now the tories have complained to 0fcom, saying they have been deprived of representation. But labour says last night was another example of borisjohnson ducking scrutiny. Jessica parker, bbc news. Lets speak to our Political Correspondent helen catt, whos in westminster. Good morning. Iwas good morning. I was talking to Gavin Williamson earlier. I put this to him again. I think it is fair to say the conservatives are struggling a little bit with the media at the moment . Yes, they have had some criticism over the use of social media, particularly the way they have edited and some videos. Now we have edited and some videos. Now we have this row with channel 4. At every election since 2010, which is when tv debates became a thing, there has been some sort of dispute, because there arent really any hard and fast rules about what tv debates, if any, should happen during the debate. It comes down to a matter of discussion between individual broadcasters and the politicians. In this election campaign, for example, we have seen borisjohnson agree to the first ever head to head debate with Jeremy Corbyn. 0ne first ever head to head debate with Jeremy Corbyn. One was on itv last week, another on the bbc next week. He has agreed to he hasnt agreed to some of the other things, including a face to face with andrew neil. The party was disappointed with the actions of channel 4. Michael gove was there to take up the mantle, to make the argument. As i say, he is a politician that has done more for the environment than any other politician. It was absolutely fitting he was there. It isa chain absolutely fitting he was there. It is a chain channel 4 decided to slam the door in his face. I dont think thatis the door in his face. I dont think that is what is required. It is a shame. In many other debates you are allowed to field a substitute. I think this was grandstanding and playing politics. It is a shame they decided to do that and i hope they wont do it in the future. There is another twist insofar as tory sources last night suggested if they re elected if they are re elected, the government could review channel 4s broadcasting obligations, although conservatives sources said the license does have to be reviewed in the next parliament anyway. Helen, thank you. We are going to be talking toJohn Mcdonnell shortly. He will be joining us on breakfast. Relatives of those killed in the Hillsborough Disaster have spoken of their disappointment at yesterdays court verdict. The criminal investigation has cost £65 million, but has ended with no one convicted. Joining us now is christine mcevoy, whose daughter marian died at hillsborough. And the mayor of liverpool, joe anderson. Good morning to you both. Christine, you were in the court yesterday. Yeah i was. Could you talk us through what that moment was like . Pretty shocking. Very disappointing, obviously. Having done one trial that getting a rear trial, and the new evidence that renting, the actual hearing David Duckenfield in court with the petitions and everything there, we just had a hope i think. We understand from speaking to our correspondent in the court room when it was read out, there was real emotion . Yes, there was. People we re real emotion . Yes, there was. People were reeling at that moment. Yes, it was. You just couldnt really explain it. It was so much disappointment. And there isnt any words that can really explain it. Its words that can really explain it. Its just devastating. Words that can really explain it. Its just devastating. Lets talk about the reaction that you have received, joe. The families, we have shown a report where families have shown a report where families have shown the impact this has had on their lives. You have been in touch with many of them. These repercussions have lasted a long time. One of the words and it is an awful word in some cases, is closure. Where is that going to come from for these families . It is a good question. It is difficult to see. 31 years in court. The reality is three years ago the families were told that unlawful killing took place and their loved ones and the survivors had no part to play in that. And here we are, four years later, huge costs to the public purse. We have still got no sense of responsibility taken by any one so far. And the reality is that has turned to, i guess, a sense of anger and frustration by people who are now looking at the system and saying, how is that . 31 years. Here we are. And yet nobody is held accountable for what is clearly evident it was unlawful killing. There is another trial in april. Do you want to tell us about that . That is the second part. They were two parts to this process. One was around David Duckenfield and what we nt around David Duckenfield and what went on. The second part is the aftermath and who was responsible for that. If you like, the total. Events took place in different sections. There were many Different Things happening. Before the game, after the game. The trials are covering all of those areas. Again, we just have to wait and see what happens. We cant go into the details. What we can talk about retrospectively is the decision yesterday. That is where the anger is now at this moment. Christine, some of the relatives, and you tell me, have said this feels like not only have you gone back to square one, but almost as if the whole thing has gone backwards . Yeah, i think so. Three years ago when we had the inquest, the conclusion, it gave us hope. And then when the cps said they were going to bring the prosecution, i think we were all thinking, now we will get accountability. But when you sit in that courtroom and you listen to those qcs and you listen to the judges summing up, you realise you havent got a hope. It was so one sided. His summing up was really, really bad. There was outrage expressed towards the judge at court . Absolutely. One Family Member stood up and shouted at the judge . She did. That does not surprise me. We have had emotions like that. We have had a roller coaster. We have had if the day that has not been good but you felt more as if you are going to get something from it. But once you heard that judges summing something from it. But once you heard thatjudges summing up, talking about hooliganism, and this was 30 years ago, asjoe said, and that were man was a policeman, they say he was a good policeman, they say he was a good policeman, they say he was a good policeman, they say he was doing well in his career. And then you have to look at the 75 year old man. Its not about him being 75. Its about the time when these people died. Him being 75. Its about the time when these people diedm him being 75. Its about the time when these people died. If i may, christine, can i ask, in terms of the toll, we have heard from many relatives, and there are so many things going around in your heads. Some of them talking about the guilt that stay with them all this time. For you, what is the toll of this process , for you, what is the toll of this process, notwithstanding the lost that he suffered in the first place . I think it isjust that he suffered in the first place . I think it is just the mental stress on you all the time. You really cant go forward. You cant grieve for your child or your loved one, because it is not over. And even yesterday, you hit a brick walls all the time. You feel like you have not been able to grieve . No, not really, because this process has been so much in the public eye. You cant actually grieve for your loved one. That is where the anger comes from. What we are going to say, joe . Coming back to the issue around the judges summing up, its clear from the first trial, and the inquest, that the commander, richard duckenfield, his actions caused the crash. As than to see yesterday everybody dismiss that, the jury dismissed that, and say, not guilty, thatis dismissed that, and say, not guilty, that is a bitter pill for people to swallow. What i think the other thing is that very clearly they are really concerned about how now the whole system is seemingly working against them. I think thats why this will not end until we get some conclusion in the sense of somebody being held accountable. That is that we know the truth and so surely justice must follow. Joe, thank you. Christine, i know its not easy for you to talk about these things, thank you. Thank you. It is quarter past eight. Heres sarah with a look at this mornings weather. Good morning. A change in weather. Cold air filtering across the country through the night. We start off with frost and icy patches. 0ver the next few days we will see a drier, sunnier spell of weather. Things are noticeably colder than they have been. Not dry everywhere today. We have got a few showers on a brisk northerly wind across northern and eastern scotland. Wintry over the higher ground. Rain showers in the north east of england. Elsewhere, is looking largely dry. A little bit more clout in the far south west. A spot or two of drizzle for cornwall and the isles of scilly. Sunny skies but not lifting temperatures in a hurry. Three to 8 degrees. A chilly feel but at least dry in most places. We are looking at the clear skies through this evening and overnight. Temperatures will drop like a stone. We are going to see some mist and freezing fog developing. And a sharp frost. Temperatures first thing on saturday down at 4 to minus five degrees. Just the far south west escaping that frost. More in the way of cloud. Saturday looking dry for most. But we have got this weather front working up the south west. That would bring rain to parts of the isles of scilly, cornwall, the Channel Islands later and perhaps devon. Away from the south west, Early Morning frost and freezing fog patches slowly clearing away. There could be some cloud lingering as the fog clears away from the midlands and wales. 90 of sun sign for much of scotla nd and wales. 90 of sun sign for much of scotland into northern england. Temperatures still on the chilly side. Three the rainfall totals will mount up through saturday. Up to 15 millimetres. They could be lying surface water as we move into sunday. Eventually that area of low pressure, the frontal system, clears towards the south. High Pressure Holding on towards the day on sunday. The chance of the odd shower for parts of northern scotland and perhaps the east coast of england. A little bit breezy in the south. A fine dry day after Early Morning fog and frost once again clears away. Top temperatures made single figures for most. Significantly colder than it has been. At least we are compensating with the return of sunshine. The largely dry and settled weather holds on into the start of the new week. Sunny spells, mostly dry, watch out for faster frost and fog overnight. Things will feel colder than they have done. Thank you. See you later. A row has broken out between channel four and the conservative party, over borisjohnsons absence from a tv debate on Climate Change. The broadcaster put a melting Ice Sculpture in mrjohnsons place when he declined to take part. The conservatives sent minister michael gove and borisjohnsons dad stanley along to the studio, but channel 4 said the invitation was for leaders only. Here is what they said at the debate last night. Still stanley, have you told your son to come on tonight . still stanley, have you told your son to come on tonight . I have exchanged messages with boris, whatsapps. And he has said, michael gove is coming. We can speak to stanleyjohnson now from our london newsroom. Good morning. Can wejust good morning. Can we just establish some basics. What were you doing there . Well, i was there because i was very kindly invited by channel 4. They actually send a car. I came in the car. I should have come on my b i cycle. In the car. I should have come on my bicycle. You got it wrong in my intro. I was not there on behalf of the conservative party. I was there because they invited me and they kindly gave me a badge which said tea m kindly gave me a badge which said team boris. Iwas kindly gave me a badge which said team boris. I was thrilled to be there. I think it slightly u nfortu nate, there. I think it slightly unfortunate, this argument over 0fcom and the Ice Sculptures. It certainly overshadowed an Important Initiative by channel 4, which was to have a major important debate on the environment, Climate Change. Lets go back to some of the basics. Where was Boris Johnson . Well, i am not privy, i can tell you that, to the Prime Ministers diary. I do follow the news from time to time. I do see that he was in in the hospital in penzance, the West Cornwall hospital. I was born there about 80 years ago. Are you saying thats what he was . About 80 years ago. Are you saying thats what he was . I have no idea where he was. People are naturally curious that he made the decision not to go to this debate on Climate Change. Some people would say it is a very important moment. It would be quite nice to know where he was. You say you just dont know . Quite nice to know where he was. You say you just dont know . quite nice to know where he was. You say you just dont know . I am absolutely saying i do not know. What i will say, i set it in the clip you played, i am not privy to the Prime Ministers diary. The Prime Minister makes his own decisions as to what he does. This particular case, he was of the view, asi particular case, he was of the view, as i understand it, that mr gove was as i understand it, that mr gove was a valid substitute in this debate. I said so myself in the clip you played. The problem is, its glaringly obvious, he is not the leader of the party. Why should those other people sit around and have a debate and talk to someone he was not the leader . You know something . I think it rather depends on whether you are interested in the substance of the argument. Here we have a chance, and we are falling down the same trap this morning, you have a chance to talk about the key issues, the really important issues, Climate Change, nature protection, International Cooperation to fight off these issues. Sorry, ifi may, the phrase you used a second ago, it really depends on whether you want to talk about the issues. I mean, there is a huge irony in what you just said. Boris johnson there is a huge irony in what you just said. Borisjohnson did not turn up to talk about the issues. So if there is someone. He had the opportunity to do so and he chose not to. If you are Prime Minister you have an enormous number of demands on your time. Much as i respect channel 4, much as i respect the importance of having six people standing around a table, there may be other more important things to do. In the case in point, he did send michael gove. Michael gove is the best environment secretary this country has properly ever had. Probably. You are to concentrate on what happened at the debate last night, which was tremendously important. Have you had any contact with borisjohnson, immediately before or after this . Hold on, i said and before or after this . Hold on, i said and i stick to it, in the run up to this particular debate, i saidi run up to this particular debate, i said i thought it was a very important debate and i very much hoped that all Political Parties would be there. I am just an ordinary individual citizen. Yes, i sent my son a Whatsapp Message and i got one back saying, michael gove is on the spot. I can remember in the last election that micah. You say you sent Boris Johnson last election that micah. You say you sent borisjohnson a message and his message was, i have sent michael gove . No, it was a sort message than that. It was golf on. I understood that. It was golf on. I understood that to mean that gove was on the case. As far as i am concerned Prime Ministers make their own decisions. In this particular case i wanted to tell you mr gove would have made a fantastic contribution to a very important debate. And really i think thatis important debate. And really i think that is the reality of the case. See, one of the issues here is the more you say he should have been there to talk about what is a very important issue, you cant then. Sorry, i didnt say that. I wonder if you people have any idea of what Prime Ministers have to do. They have an enormous number of things to do on the substance. Youve got the tory party manifesto. You got a very large number of statements he has made, the Prime Minister. It might help us a little bit if somebody told us what he was doing that was so important. That might help. Check on your diary. So important. That might help. Check on yourdiary. I so important. That might help. Check on your diary. I mean, check the news. Do you want to text him now and ask him . I am sorry, youve got news gathering machinery at your disposal. For example, ithink news gathering machinery at your disposal. For example, i think there was something about devon. There may bea was something about devon. There may be a lot of other things. Get onto the diary. You are making a mountain out of a mole hill, if i may say so. Scrutiny is what this is all about, ina scrutiny is what this is all about, in a way. It is about the issue of whether the Prime Minister, the leader of the conservative party, is prepared to put himself up to scrutiny. He was not. We are getting mixed messages about whether or not he will do an interview with andrew neil, for example. Do you have any steer on that . That is something which is no doubt being discussed. I think there is a point also, which is worth considering here. That is, why play school boy games with Ice Sculptures and so on . Very u nfortu nately, sculptures and so on . Very unfortunately, what with a very important debate, it has now been slightly sidetracked by your discussions as to whether or not the Prime Minister should have. I personally would have liked to have seen him there. I accept there are other things which he had to do. I am not sure were getting anywhere on this one. I will say that the debate was a good one. And i was very pleased to hear people make the remarks they were making. Thank you for your time. We are going to be talking climate about later. John maguire and Nick Robinson are going to bejoining us in around a few minutes and looking ahead to the next leader debate. Time now to get the news, travel and weather where you are. Hello, good morning. Youve noticed its a much chillier start today compared to recent warnings. Some frost this morning, over the next few days, we will keep the cold weather but it will be largely dry with sunshine. Still watch out for a bit of ice across central areas the uk, some clouded down towards the south west of england, there will be a few showers across Eastern England and into the north of scotland, otherwise plenty of dry and sunny weather, maximum temperature is about 4 8d, feeling much chillier compared to the last week or so. Through this evening, we could see the odd shower coming in towards eastern areas, mist and fog developing across central and southern parts but you can see by the blue colours, widespread frost into the start of the weekend, temperatures reaching minus 2 5, perhaps 8 in rural areas of scotland. High pressure dominating for many of us, keeping things fair about this weather front going to gradually move in across southern areas during saturday. We will see cloud, rain across the south west, very gusty winds. Mist and fog could bea very gusty winds. Mist and fog could be a little bit stubborn to clear away from central areas into the afternoon. Where it doesnt clear temperatures may only be one or 2 degrees but around that come up into northern parts, there will be sunshine, still feeling chilly wherever you are. Temperatures 3 7d. Into sunday, the area of low pressure m oves into sunday, the area of low pressure moves out towards france, High Pressure becomes established over most of the uk. Just a few showers in the far north of scotland during sunday but for most, again, one or two patches of mist and fog in the morning, hard frost again, but plenty of dry, plenty of sunny weather throughout the day on sunday, maximum temperature is about three or 4 degrees in northern areas, 5 7d further south. A big change in the weather compared to what we had at the start of the week. Goodbye. This is worklife from bbc news, with Samantha Simmonds and david eades. Black friday or green friday .
