In iraq 27 people are shot dead in one of the bloodiest days since Anti Government protests started. Donald trump makes a surprise appearance in afghanistan to visit us troops for thanksgiving his first trip to the country as president. On the uk campaign trail borisjohnson is criticised for refusing to commit to an interview with the bbcs andrew neil. The other Party Leaders have all subjected themselves to his interrogation. Here william, im being interviewed you, are you saying. Its five minutes, not a full length interview. Are you saying you are incapable of scrutiny . This is a five minute incapable of scrutiny . This is a five minute interview enough incapable of scrutiny . This is a five minute interview enough farm shop, its not the same thing. Thirty years after the hillsborough disaster, no one has been held responsible for the deaths of the 96 fans who lost their lives after being crushed in the terraces. Today a jury found the policeman in charge on the day at the fa cup semi final superintendent David Duckenfield not guilty of manslaughter by gross negligence. Its the third time hes been on trial since 1989. As the verdict was read out, there were gasps and tears in court from the families of some of those who died. Judith moritz is at Preston Crown court. David duckenfield has been a blame figure for 30 years, in charge at hillsborough when disaster happened. That he failed is not in dispute but his trial ended with a not guilty verdict, and with tears for the hillsborough families. 96 people are found to be unlawfully killed to a credible standard by an inquestjury, and somebody has got to be held responsible for 96 deaths. Its the biggest sporting disaster in british legal history. All of the families, loved ones, were unlawfully killed, and weve got to live with, well, who is accountable for the deaths, then . The hillsborough families say that over 30 years, opportunities have been missed to prosecute the full number of people and institutions which could have been held responsible for the disaster. With this trial, the jurors only had one man to consider, and they were not willing to make him solely responsible for the deaths. In 1989, liverpool played Nottingham Forest in an fa cup semifinal. Commentator liverpools faithful followers, fed on success in 25 years, are at the leppings lane end. 211,000 liverpool fans travelled to the city for the fixture. Minutes before the kick off, a huge crowd was still queueing to get into the ground. David duckenfield gave a critical order open the gate. Thousands poured in. But he didnt close a tunnel to the terraces, which were already full. For the first time, we can broadcast him giving his evidence at the inquests four years ago. That is arguably one of the biggest regrets of my life, that i did not foresee where fans would go when they came in through the gates. Some fans climbed out of the crush, but most were trapped. These survivors are still coping with the mental scars. I dont know if i passed out, but i remember i gave up. I knew i was dying. You knew. You just knew that youre going to die. Next thing i knew, there was a pile of bodies next to me. We were screaming at a Police Officer to open the gate, so we could get onto the pitch. I just remember vividly one lad saying, my brothers in there, dying. We found that moment on the archive footage. 19 year old ian, in his red tracksuit, traumatised for life. Ive had suicide attempts. Self harm. I am tattooed, because that was the positive alternative to cutting myself. 96 men, women and children were killed the youngest aged ten, the oldest a pensioner. Brian mathews was 38 when he died in the crush. He came from a large merseyside family whove spent 30 years campaigning on his behalf. People went to that Football Game as a family. Dads went with their sons. Dads came home with their sons in body bags. You went as a family on a saturday, to watch a Football Team play. There shouldnt gave been any risk that you would not come home. Walk on, walk on. In 2016, inquests found that the fans were unlawfully killed and they were not to blame, but an inquest is not a trial. David duckenfield was then charged with manslaughter. And now, the jury has found he was singled out unfairly and is innocent of any crime. It may sound like a cliche to say that lessons must be learned. But given this verdict, that has never been more relevant nor important. Hundreds of detectives have spent seven years gathering evidence into hillsborough. Costing £65 million, 0peration resolve is the longest ever criminal investigation in england. There have been trials, inquests, investigations and inquiries before, but this verdict means no one will be jailed for so many lives lost. So is this the end of the road for the families of the victims heres judith from outside the court with more on that. I should tell you that that is the feeling for some of them. Now, i asked them, does it feel to you like 30 years on you are out of time but that justice delayed may 30 years on you are out of time but thatjustice delayed mayjust be because that is taken so long that this was never going to be a process that was straightforward for you . That is a feeling amongst some that it was always going to be hard to bring a prosecution three decades on. Thats what the Crown Prosecution Service has said. And its about 30 years ago, but the families have also said they have so much evidence they feel was not brought in this case. They been critical of the weather prosecution has been put together and quite vocal about that. These families know every detail of what happened, theyve done a lot of their own research and there is some frustration there about the events of today. They know they say about all the evidence they would have liked to have seen that brought. 0f the feeling is from the Crown Prosecution Service and operational resolves that the verdict of the jury resolves that the verdict of the jury must be respected. Davids lawyers have that he is relieved but they say its not necessarily the end of the road. The families will be back here in april and a second trial then, that trial will deal with the aftermath of the disaster. Lets bring you the latest on the Anti Government protests in iraq. Security forces there have killed at least 20 people in the Southern City of nasariya. The following video is from there. People ran across this bridge to escape gunfire. The bridge is across the Euphrates River and has been blocked by protestors for days. The authorities moved to clear this bridge and one other too. Another four people were killed in baghdad, while three died in the city of najaf. The Authorities Say theyre trying restore order there after the iranian consulate was set on fire after staff fled. This is the second time an iranian consulate in iraq has been attacked this month. And last night we could hear protesters chanting victory to iraq and iran out of iraq. They believe, not unreasonably, that iran is interfering in iraqs internal affars. And that its supporting the current government. Heres our middle east correspondent martin patience. Now that is significant. Iran has widespread influence in iraq for religious and cultural reasons, it also controls powerful militias that operate in iraq and many of the protesters blame not only their government, but iran as well for the economic problems in that country. More than 350 protestors have died during the protests of the last two months. A lot of the protestors are young and theyre angry because the government hasnt delivered on promises made a year ago when it took office, to tackle unemployment, corruption, and poor public services. Heres martin patience again. The reality is that young iraqis feel like they have no stake in their country, and what we are likely to see is the demonstrations continuing until the protests say the government is completely overhauled and annexed policies that they say work for the people. I think whats interesting is after the fight against the Islamic State many iraqis thought the country had a huge opportunity because security had improved. But what was seen is young iraqis looking around and they realise they have no jobs, no Economic Opportunities and when they talk about corruption in the government they are also talking about iranian influence. And theres about iranian influence. And theres a feeling that the whole system needs to change in order for iraqis to make progress. Rasha aljoundy is from the Dubai Public Policy Research centre. She spoke to me earlier about irans role in this unrest. Since iraq had all of these proxies and militias related to iran, iraq will never be that state. Because these protests originated from this corrupted network that iran created around its interest and to preserve their interest. Basically iraq is their interest. Basically iraq is the crown jewel of the their interest. Basically iraq is the crownjewel of the power of iran in the region. President trump has made an unannounced thanksgiving visit to afghanistan, his first trip there as president. Air force one touched down at Bagram Airfield after an overnight flight from washington. The president met afghan president ashraf ghani and addressed u. S. Troops. Hes announced that the us will be substantially reducing troops in afghanistan, but did not provide specific numbers. He also said the us was re starting talks with the taleban. The talent band wants to make a deal. We will see if they want to make a deal, its got to be a real deal. But they want to make a deal. They want to make a deal because you are doing a greatjob, thats the only reason they want to make a deal. I want to thank you i dont wa nt deal. Thats nearly 8 Million People most in rural areas. Heres the un special rapporteur. Women and children were bearing the brunt of the crisis severely. The majority of the children i met started or are underweight. Severe malnutrition is rising from the past few months. 90 of the byway in children aged six months or zero to two years are not consuming the minimum acceptable diet. Much of zimbabwe is now at a crisis level of food insecurity, according to the us government. Zimbabwe has faced drought and two damaging cyclones recently but the risk of starvation is primarily due to economic mismanagement. Heres 0xfams ben phillips. Imean i mean come at the moment we are seeing not just i mean come at the moment we are seeing notjust in zimbabwe but across Southern Africa was so in zambia and zimbabwe and mozambique, all four countries are suffering from drought and extreme weather patterns. We fundamentally do believe that the effects of Climate Change have massive impacts on some of the poorest communities in the region of Southern Africa and zimbabwe in particular. But the problems with food provision date back to another era, because presumably theres a political dimension to this well. Political elements and economic insecurity could also have these factors. And what we are seeing are issues of inequality and People Struggle to make a living in zimbabwe and other countries. And its exacerbating issues of Climate Change and making people more more vulnerable to hunger. Stay with us on 0utside source still to come. Well have business and chinese social media giant tik tok apologises for banning a teenager critical of beijing. The metropolitan police has defended its decision not to investigate claims by the american woman, who says she had sex with prince andrew, when she was 17. Virginia roberts, now virginia giuffre, alleges she was brought to london 18 years ago by the convicted sex offender, jeffrey epstein. 0ur royal correspondent, jonny dymond, reports on the story. They are saying that the trafficking is organised outside of british territory, epstein is dead, and as far as they are concerned there is no case to answer. Now, you know, there are a host of allegations and questions around this, and of course there are a number of people who think that because there was the allegation that royalty was involved that this may or may not have affected the metropolitan polices investigation. They say its nothing to do without. Question of territory. About where a crime may or may not have been committed, its nothing to do with them. Anti terrorist police in italy have launched raids to dismantle an armed group that modelled itself on the nazis. Guns, swords, nazi flags and books on adolf hitler and italys fascist leader Benito Mussolini were seized. The group calls itself the Italian National socialist Workers Party and its trying to form a pan european alliance. Those plans may be on hold. A session in parliament in tiny african country of lesotho descended into mps throwing things at each other. It began when the speaker tried to suspend a discussion about the countrys wool and mohair trade which mps on the opposition benches didnt like. Borisjohnson has refused to say whether he will take part in a bbc interview with Presenter Andrew Neil renowned for being the uks toughest interviewer. The leaders of the liberal democrats and the brexit party will be grilled next week, the snp and laboursjeremy corbyn have already subjected themselves to the interrogation. That interview was generally regarded as having gone badly for mr corbyn who faced questions about anti semitism in his party, and about labours ambitious Spending Plans. But at least he showed up for that. He showed up for this too a debate staged this evening by another broadcaster, channel 4 on Climate Change. The Prime Minister, and the Brexit Party Leader nigel farage were both no shows, and so they are being represented on stage tonight by melting ice scultpures instead. The Prime Minister meanwhile was asked 7 times earlier whether he will sit for that interview heres that exchange in full. Will you sit down and be interviewed by andrew neil on the bbc before polling day . I will have all sorts of interviews with all sorts of people. Here i am, being interviewed by you now. Im sure active discussions are taking place about future interviews with a number of people. Were talking for five minutes in a farm shop, but will you agree to a proper interview with andrew neil on the bbc before polling day . Im sure that i will be having all sorts of interrogations, inquisitions from all sorts of people. Sit down, stand up. Prime minister, this is a big interview. All the others have agreed to do it. Will you join them in being interviewed by andrew neil on the bbc before election day . I dont want to preempt any discussions that may be taking place, but ive no doubt that conversations are going on about or sort of interviews with all sorts of people, and i look forward very much to the result. Is that a yes or a no . Other people are getting involved in these conversations. Its not myjob to do. They will be deciding and discussing. Im very happy to be interviewed by anybody, by you, and i look forward to the outcome of those discussions. Can you see if you dont do this interview, critics will say that youre running scared, youre chicken, youre afraid of scrutiny . Here i am. Im being interviewed by you. For five minutes. Its not a full length interview. Are you saying that youre incapable of providing scrutiny . This is a five minute interview in a farm shop. Its not the same thing. Well, im very happy to submit to all manner of scrutiny, all manner of debates and have done so, and lots of conversations are happening about that matter right now. So you might do it . All sorts of conversations are happening about that matter right now and other people than me are responsible for those discussions and negotiations, and i do not want to preempt what they may decide. Heresjessica parker from westminster. And then theyre really trying to get mrjohnson to say whether he will take place in the interview and andrew neil seen as the toughest interview were to go up against and perhaps some people will suggest that maybe borisjohnson and his tea m that maybe borisjohnson and his team will look at the polls and see that they are ahead and its important to throw in that caveat the polls are just a snapshot of any one time and think, is it worth the risk . Forjeremy corbyn he had a tough time and a lot of people felt following his interview with andrew neil. Some people suspect the conservatives are trying to play it safe. The flip side of that of course is that borisjohnson will, by political opponents, be accused of running scared. Not wanting to face up to that kind of scrutiny because it is this half hour long relentless interview with andrew neil, and i think questions will keep coming up borisjohnson in terms of this interview and whether he is going to take part. Just a quick question about the Spending Plans, the leading neutral think tank on those matters that neither of them are offering a credible explanation of what they are going to do. The institute for fiscal studies, very widely respected independent Economic Research body coming out with their analysis of labour and the conservatives and liberal democrats Spending Plans today but saying of the tories and labour that in different respects their plans are not quite as credible as it set out in the ma nifestos credible as it set out in the manifestos and saying they will have to spend more than they are suggesting and therefore presumably borrow a bit more or text a bit more, and that labour actually or perhaps struggling to deliver on the spending promises that it set out in its manifesto. 0n the face of it you might think of a well, god, its pretty bad news for the two main parties that they are getting this level of criticism that their Spending Plans are being called not credible by a leading Economic Research body. But i suppose on the other hand i think you could argue that perhaps the electorate want to be overly surprised to hear perhaps that everything that is laid out in a manifesto does not quite turn out to be the case in government. Much more on the uk Election Campaign on the bbc news website of course. The chinese owned social media site tiktok has apologised to an american teenager who was banned from the site after videos she made criticising china went viral. Vivienne nunis went to meet her. Broadcasting from a bedroom in newjersey to the world. In four days feroza azizs snappy video has been watched more than 5 million times on tiktok and twitter. Curl your lashes, obviously, and then youre going to put them down and use your phone that you are using right now to search whats happening in china, how theyre getting concentration camps, throwing innocent muslims in there. So, why did this 17 Year Old High School student decide to speak out about an issue on which so many have stayed silent . As a muslim, ive always faced oppression and racism, but to see that these group of people, this ethnic group, is going through much more than i could ever imagine, i thought that this isnt right and i need to spread awareness about this. Tiktok is owned by the beijing based bytedance and its faced criticism by some, who believe it sensors content that could offend chinese sensibilities. Shortly after posting the videos, ferosas tiktok account was suspended and her handset was blocked from accessing the platform. Tiktok says that move is unrelated to her posts about the uighurs but ferosa is unconvinced. Tiktok also briefly took down her video about uighurs. The company has now apologised and restored access to tiktok on ferosas phone. The Chinese Government has consistently claimed that xinjiangs uighurcamps are for voluntary education butjust but just this week the bbcs Panorama Programme exposed leaked documents revealing how muslims there are locked up in high security prisons, indoctrinated and punished. I will continue to talk about it. I will talk about it on twitter, instagram, any platform, even tiktok, im not scared of tiktok, even after the suspension. I will not be scared, tiktok. Another sign of how powerful social media platforms have become. Ingrid lunden is an editor at techcrunch and says critics of tiktok are right to be cynical about the compa nys explanation. This is not just this is notjust any video, its a video really strongly criticising the policy of the Chinese Government, the fact that they took it down and just called it human error seems a little bit too convenient for their purposes. I think that theres, she says i dont believe them and i think she has every reason to feel that way, frankly. Former netflix customers who cancelled their subscription months ago have had their accounts reactivated without their consent. A bbc investigation found that criminals can log in to dormant accounts and start them up again without knowing users bank details. Our Technology CorrespondentRory Cellan Jones explains how it happened. Netflix seems a very keen not to lose touch with people who decide to yeah, im cancelling my account. Rather thanjust wiping yeah, im cancelling my account. Rather than just wiping their details they leave in their systems, the name and password, and crucially, the bank details linked to those accounts, for ten months after people have left. And it appears that hackers have managed to get a hold of those details into one particular case we saw that they then completely change those details apart from the bank details and off they go. They are actually then going to ebay and selling these accounts. You could buy an account for as little as 3 on ebay. Two things to mention before we end of the end of this half hour. First off to north america and we had to winter storms affecting the weather for thanksgiving, the first one here on the satellite is now gradually clearing out into the atlantic towards the east, but weve got another low pressure system thats been working in from the west. And through friday thats going to bring heavy snowfall across the Sierra Nevada at one to three feet of snow possible here. Also the southern cascades and rockies and at lower levels fairly heavy rainfall could bea levels fairly heavy rainfall could be a bit of flooding across parts of california. Further eased things will be improving as that storm clears off into the atlantic and is still quite a cold wind blowing for the likes of montreal and new york as well on friday. Lots of dry weather though, Washington State and 0regon weather though, Washington State and oregon and also towards British Columbia too. Is the outlook, the terrain possible for the middle part of next week. Lurch the dry and settled until then. Should be mostly dry in las vegas too. Across india should have plenty of rain in the front south and across sri lanka. More come on friday and flooding impacts across parts of sri lanka where we have seen plenty of heavy rain. For central and northern parts of india mostly dry and perhaps one or two showers around the new delhi region. But its looking drive for karachi, mumbai and others for the next five day or so. High Pressure Holding on across march of each are china and a crossing Korean Peninsula and into japans well. Just one of two showers blowing in. And with northeast winds pretty 599y and with northeast winds pretty soggy conditions as the most air gets blown towards coastal vietnam, quite a bit of heavy rain here. Heavy showers also across northern parts of indonesia. And its largely driver the philippines is a typhoon waiting out towards the east that may bring rain to manila for the middle part of next week. Wet and windy weather possible due to that typhoon which may well prove its way across the philippines. For europe still quite unsettled for central parts. This weather front which is bringing some snow to the alps and rain at low levels. A northerly airflow so culture can just for the uk towards denmark into sweden and norway as well. Cultural but also drier and brighter. Pretty mild recently for much of eastern europe, but temperatures are on the dip here is an area of rain moves across towards ukraine and towards western russia. More rain working in from the atlantic later on in the weekend do affect parts of spain and france too. For the uk drier weather at last in the way of sunshine, things turning colder perhaps a bit of rain in the southwest on saturday. But not much rain in the forecast over the next five days or so. More on the next five days or so. More on the weather for the week ahead in half an hour. Goodbye. The next thing for you is the latest addition of brexit can tv.
