And two metal detectorists are found guilty of stealing and concealing a viking hoard of coins and jewellery worth millions of pounds much of which is still missing. Jeremy corbyn has unveiled labours general election manifesto and vowed to transform the United Kingdom if they win. He unveiled the wide ranging plans in birmingham promising what he called a green transformation of the economy and a manifesto for hope. A Labour Government would nationalise rail, mail, water and energy companies. They would build at least 150,000 new council and social homes every year until 2025. And mr corybn said thered be a one off windfall tax on Oil Companies to pay back the damage done to the climate. Thered be big tax increases on higher earners and companies to pay for the plans. A leading Economist Says the scale of the proposals is enormous. Heres our political editor, Laura Kuenssberg and a warning her report contains flash photography. Is it time . Time for a much bigger state . Time for a government to spend and tax more . Time for a leader who strongly believes the answer is yes . To rapture and some of his ranks, but who presides over a party where there are still doubts about him. Labours manifesto is a manifesto for hope, a manifesto that is full of popular policies, but the political establishment has blocked for a generation. Labour is on your side. And there could be scarcely a clear demonstration on that than the furious reaction of the richest and most powerful. He would write huge checks paid for with the public purse, using higher taxes on business and the wealthy, spending and changing the rules. Our investment will rebuild our schools, hospitals, care homes and housing desperately needed. This will be investment on a scale you have never known before. We will launch the biggest Council House Building Programme since the 1960s and cap rents. He promised tough new targets for scrapping carbon emissions, extra free care for the elderly, a universal credit benefit system will go along with University Fees in england. There was now the familiar chant among the crowd. Labour would not privatise anymore of the health service. But when it comes to the Biggest Issue in the country right now, only a careful restatement of the position, Jeremy Corbyn will not say whether he would stay or leave, he would ask you on the eu again. We will secure a sensible deal that protects manufacturing and the good friday agreement and then put it to a public vote alongside the option of remaining in the eu. Lets take it out of the hands of politicians and give the british people the final say. With no final decision on europe, no final decision on eu immigration, and its notjust the scale of the leadership plan that is controversial. A small group ofjewish protesters outside. Jeremy corbyn undeterred. It is time for real change. Thank you. Why do you think the whole country once much bigger spending and a much bigger state because this manifesto has put rocket boosters on what you promised in 2017 and it did not convince the country to give you a majority then. It is a radical manifesto, but radical answers are what is necessary. Youve got to have an offer on the table that matches the scale of the problem we face at the moment in the 215t century. If we can get beyond brexit, labour can win this election. Think he will be moving into number 10 . I hope so. I promised my son we could play some people there. Meant to play some before there. Whatever family plans there are four downing st this election is a huge and serious moment for the labour leader and all of us. AsJeremy Corbyn heads around the country has manifesto is not about tinkering round the edges but about a different way of running the country. There are doubts about whether it is realistic whether the country is ready for him. Elections are about bold statements on big platforms but millions of small moments as well. We face an epic decision in a few weeks but it will be taken one by one. Jeremy corbyn said labours plans are radical and are about bringing people together. The partys also promising all workers at least £10 an hour for the so called real living wage with Public Sector employees getting a 5 pay rise as well. Theyll offer free personal care to over 65s in england. And in higher education, labour says they will abolish tuition fees and bring back maintenance grants. And on the crucial issue of brexit labour are promising to renegotiate a new deal with the eu and then have another referendum, although mr corbyn will not say how he would vote. 0ur political correspondent, alex forsyth has been to hastings a marginal seat with a small tory majority that voted to leave the eu to find out what voters make of the plans. There is a battle in hastings. This seaside town was narrowly won by the tories in 2017. Now this working fishing port is exactly the kind of seat labour needs for an election victory. 0n the edge of town, staff at this Manufacturing Business had half an ear on labours offer today. For some long term supporters, it was persuasive. I believe in good housing for people, i believe in, you know, a Good National health service, education. I believe in all the things that everybody else believes in, but i actually believe that labour will do more for normal people. I think he plans to take a lot of that money from the rich, doesnt he . From corporations rather than, you know, the lower classes, and i think thats a good way to go and i think british rail should be nationalised. There are some 60 employees here making high end electrical switches and sockets. Some of the many labour wants to win round. Cameron, an apprentice, was attracted by University Without the fees. Theres always that money part, thats put me away from it, really. So if there were no fees that might change your mind . Yes, hundred percent. Labours pitch is investment across the board. But some were not convinced. Where does he think he will find the money if others happen . For many voters, credibility is an issue. Who will deliver what is promised. Jeremy corbyn might hope is broad offer domestic policy has broad appeal. The problem he has is how that goes down with labour supporters who wanted to leave the eu and arent persuaded by his idea of a second referendum. For many fishermen in hastings brexit is the biggest thing in this election. There is a loss of faith. Why have another referendum . Is it the best of three . It is a nonsense. We have had a democratic decision by the people and it should be upheld. The anger clear, disappointment with pledges and promises. All this business about what they are going to do when they are in, they are going to give free this and that, i dont believe anything any more. Convincing voters in these key seats could win or lose their selection. Crucial could be how labours policy offer compares to brexit frustration. The head of the leading think tank, the institute for fiscal studies says labours plans would see the biggest increase in spending, tax and borrowing weve seen in peacetime history. Pauljohnson says the scale of this is enormous. 0ur economics editor, faisal islam, has been looking at labours proposals and what impact they could have on the economy. This is a radical attempt to change britains business model, involving notjust huge amounts of public spending and investment, but also an attempt to rewire the way the economy works. There will be significant sums going to schools and reopening sure start centres for pre school children. £16 billion. And more than £18 billion a year also to deal with health care and social care in particular. And £5 billion a year will be spent on an immediate pay rise and later earning increases for Public Sector workers alongside other pledges £83 billion in spending rises, matched, yes, by £83 billion extra taxes that labour says it can squeeze from business and the rich. Firstly by reversing Corporation Tax cuts over the past decade a whopping £24 billion. Higher taxes for the top 5 of earners. Those are more than 80,000 pounds. Ina those are more than 80,000 pounds. In a major change to capital gains. As high as 50p rather than 28p raising 1a billion. Massive sums. Narrow number of wealthy people and businesses and braised real questions. These are very big plans indeed. 80 billion of tax rises, they say both from companies and the rich, and practice, text and companies affect all of us. But if you want the scale of transformation, you will have to have a broader set of tax increases and that and affect many more people. Do the £83 billion extra day to day spending, there is also long term spending. Grading 100,000 Council Homes a year. At that borrowed money to the investment and green revolution, and you get to a large sum of extra spending, £140 billion a year. Hundreds of billions over the parliament. The other parties are offering some of the same message, using the ability of government to borrow cheaply to invest billions in the green future. Labour has pushed this more than twice as far as the rest. It is a decisive shift by britain to a big state, taxing big business more, like continental europe, a range of reasonable questions about whether we can afford this, labours answer, we can afford this, labours answer, we cannot afford not to and only a very active government can reshape the economy to change the fate of the economy to change the fate of the country in particular, to meet what they call a climate emergency. Lets talk to our political correspondent, jonathan blake. What sort of impact if any of this having on the campaign . There is no doubt this is a big, bold offerfrom a labourer. And there will be a hope from Jeremy Corbyn and others and the party that they offer them an opportunity to reboot and reset their election campaign, perhaps give them something of a bounce that they need if they are to take on the conservatives and win a majority when the uk goes to the polls and december. From everything, from the free broadband to the restoration of bus routes, to the taxes on big businesses, this distilled down is very essence of the Jeremy Corbyns a labour party politics. And he will have to hope that voters will see this offer which would represent, if labour were to win a majority and get into government, a huge change to the way big parts of the uk economy plumbing and manufacturing, industry, local government and many other things besides operate. There was very little said today at the ma nifesto was very little said today at the manifesto lunch about brexit fossum i think that was deliberate. While Jeremy Corbyn restated the party policy, with conviction, that he come if he was Prime Minister, when negotiate a new deal with the eu and then put that to a public vote and a further referendum, and follow through on the result of that, it is not the basis on which the labour are hoping to fight this campaign. As they say they will have to hope that the package measures and the radical offering they put forward today will capture peoples attention if they are to win anything like enough seats to achieve a majority in the general election. It is about public services, taxes, spending on levels as you heard in those reports, not seen as you heard in those reports, not seen before asJeremy Corbyn set himself today, and investment on a scale you have never known, but we will have to wait in the coming days, when the conservatives will of course put forward their plan for government at their manifesto lunch to see how the specific offerings in the oval package of the two main parties shift the dynamic of this campaign. The conservatives of course will be hoping that it stays with brexit and they will do all they can to ram home their message on that. Thank you. Throughout the election campaign, we are looking closely at the places where the final result could be won and lost, and asking people in those places, what questions they may have. Tomorrow, we will be reporting from norwich, all day on tv, radio and online, starting with bbc breakfast, and radio 5 live. And well find out how this story and many others are covered in tomorrows front pages at 10 40 and 11 30 this evening in the papers our guests joining me tonight a re Nicola Bartlett from the daily mirror, and olivia utley from the sun. Where else will we start . The new tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has said he wont make the same mistakes at spurs that hes made at previous clubs. Mourinho replaced the sacked Mauricio Pochettino yesterday, ending an 11 month spell out of management. Mourinho described himself as humble in his first News Conference as tottenham boss, saying he spent his time away from football analysing his career. He also said that theres much to admire about what pochettino achieved in his time at the club this is not about me. This is not about me coming here in saying everything was wrong with Mauricio Pochettino. Not at all. Ijust everything was wrong with Mauricio Pochettino. Not at all. I just came to try and understand why in the last two years, the results in the premier league were not good. And to try to understand how i can help them to reach again very good at level. As i was saying, the players are very good. And im not here to make a dramatic changes. So hes back. Heres what a few of mourinhos rival managers make of his return. Everyone has the option to play football on the way they want calmist to say what they want to say and you cannot be criticising always what they think. That is why it is not he is not my friend or my enemy. He has been that throughout his career. He brings in intensity, and the time i work with them, he was a big influence for me back then as a young coach. We look at his record and what he has done, the achievements he has got, i saw yesterday, the trophies he won, everywhere he has when he has won a leak. He is quite remarkable at what he has done. He is up there with as good as you will ever get. Great britain are through to the last eight of the davis cup finals in madrid after beating kazakhstan 2 1. Kyle edmund took the first singles match. But dan evans lost the second in three sets to alexander bublik. Evans who also lost his singles match yesterday won the first set, but couldnt sustain the momentum, leaving the tie level at 1 1. So, just like yesterday, it came down to the doubles match. Jamie murray and neal skupski convincingly winning in straight sets. Great britain are back in action at around 4. 30 tomorrow afternoon, where theyll meet germany in the quarter finals. The same situation as yesterday. We knew where to go out and when the match if we were to have any chance to progress in the event. We played a great match from start to finish and we started really quick. We were aggressive and didnt give them any time to set or rush them a lot. Really happy with how we played excited to get the team through to the quarterfinals and have a go against germany tomorrow. Team gbs four man Bobsleigh Team have been presented with their bronze medals from the 2014 sochi winter 0lympics. A thick layer of smoke from bushfires continues to engulf australias biggest city, sydney, while smoke warnings have now also been issued in adelaide. And for the first time in almost a decade, a code red warning has been issued in the state of victoria. Across the country, firefighters are now battling almost 200 bushfires, and struggling to contain the worst fires in South Australia, victoria and New South Wales, which have been exacerbated by wind and dry conditions. For more, im joined live from sydney, byjames morris from the New South Wales royal fire service. Painting quite a distressing picture there. Just ascribe to us what firefighters are having to deal with. Good morning. Significant fire right across the landscape here in australia, especially in those eastern and southern parts of those up eastern and southern parts of those up here in New South Wales, still more than 60 bush and grass fires burning across the state, thankfully at the alert level low, no threat to homes. We have seen significant threats over the last few days to homes, especially northwest of sydney. Where we have the fire burning at 171,000 hectares, significant loss of homes especially up significant loss of homes especially up around the mid north coast, to a number of quality habitats in those areas. We are still seeing significant work being done by firefighters and Emergency Service personnel trying to contain these fires but it will suddenly be some weeks or months before we see some containment of the fire. What structure the most about this particular bushfire season . Is it the duration that is going on for or the duration that is going on for or the number of fires . Make what strikes you the most . It is a combination here in New South Wales a couple with significant drought conditions. 9896 of New South Wales is currently drought affected which is currently drought affected which is causing very dry fuel loads and we do have a lot of fuel on the floor, which is causing significant issues and obviously our main concern, for forest areas across New South Wales and this is why we are seeing significant activity, we didnt have been busy with a bushfire since august and typically we dont see that period start until the 1st of october. We are seeing a lot of fire activity, we have seen more significant fire activity at homes more significant fire seasons them back in 1994 and 2001 in 2002. There is no sign of an and we have no forecast of rain on the horizon at this stage, and we still have got some months before any we are out of the dangerous part of the season so it isa the dangerous part of the season so it is a long time ahead for New South Wales here. We hearing a lot of stories about the residence and what it is doing to decimating their homes and decimating towns. How are the firefighters coping with this . It isa the firefighters coping with this . It is a huge strain on them for some a lot of the firefighters are part of the community. They are people who have lost homes and friends are people who have lost their lives. It is very tough and challenging. A lot of them just getting onto doing the job at we continue to monitor their and physical well being of a did a ration as things start to settle down and they come to terms with what is happening in the local community that we do have good support programmes and our communities are working together and we are seeing a lot of Good Community support, not only residents but for firefighters as well and it is good to see these communities in these tough times are sticking together, it is wonderful to see given the significant damage ofan to see given the significant damage of an destruction we have seen in some of these locations. |j of an destruction we have seen in some of these locations. I was reading claims of concern is that a lot of residents have got some complacent in terms of preparation for bushfire season. What would they normally have done that they didnt do this season . It is always hard. We see people and when we speak to residents, we we i can say to prepare a house when we see smoke we will not leave until we see smoke and fire. Wondering is make sure your house is prepared because fires can your house is prepared because fires ca n start your house is prepared because fires can start any stage of the year. Mike we always tell them to stay prepared. We have seen this season more homes destroyed very severe then we have at the higher levels of extreme and catastrophic in victoria. We are telling people it is very important that they need to make sure now they are properly prepared and so there are no threats to homes and make sure they have the imported discussion with their family and what they will do in the event of a fire threat, u nfortu nately event of a fire threat, unfortunately some of the firefighters have been to homes where people have either left and not prepared their home or are willing to stay their home and it is bush and scrub right up to their home, no preparation and we are telling them that it is too dangerous to be out of the try and defend the home having those discussions with people about telling them they do need to leave early in the home may not survive the house fires. Very quickly, what would be the answer to year praise . That the come down to rain . Ashman a nswer to that the come down to rain . Ashman answer to your price. That is all we can hope for. A lot of them are burning in remote and rugged to maine. We have seen significant rain but that we need weeks of rain. And significant consistent rain to put these fires out. If we get rain for a day, that will assist but obviously, not enough with these large lengths fires that we have come up large lengths fires that we have come up we large lengths fires that we have come up we need days and weeks of consistent heavy rain. Both to put these fires out and to put moisture back into the fuel low so that it reduces the potential for any new fires across the season. Thank you, james. Thank you. The uk government has brought the first british children back to the uk, from areas of northeast of syria, formerly under the control of is. Save the children estimates that around 60 british children, whose parents supported the Islamic State group, still remain trapped in syria. Other countries, including france, denmark, norway and kazakhstan have brought children home. The bbc is unable to give further details due to security reasons, but britain has previously expressed reluctance to take back citizens from the region. This evening we are in the process of returning back to the uk, a number of orphan british children from the conflict in syria. We look at the cases individually very carefully a nd at the cases individually very carefully and in the circumstances it is the right thing to do. These children should to be safe and sound here in the uk at home, not caught up here in the uk at home, not caught up in that vicious conflict. I hope that now they will be given the time and space and support to return to some kind of a number of orphan british children from the conflict in syria. We look at the cases individually very carefully and in the circumstances it is the right i hope that now they will be given the time and space and support to return to some kind of normal life. The former first minister of scotland alex salmond has appeared in court charged with 14 Sexual Offences against ten women including one count of attempted rape. The incidents are all alleged to have happened betweenjune 2008 and november 2014 while he was leader of the scottish government. He denies all the charges. 0ur scotland editor sarah smith reports from the high court in edinburgh. Walking into court with his sister, alex salmond knew he would have to face the press, who were waiting to hear the details of the charges against him. Inside, during a short hearing, he entered a plea of not guilty. I am innocent and i will defend my position vigorously. But the only place, the only proper place, to answer criminal charges is in this court, and thats exactly what we intend to do next spring. It is, frankly, astounding, to see a man who held such high office accused of serious Sexual Offences, allegedly committed while he was first minister of scotland. The charges, which he strenuously denies, all relate to the time during which he was snp leader and first minister. Watch your backs one of the alleged Sexual Assault is said to have happened in the same month as the 2014 independence referendum. Many of the assaults are alleged to have taken place here, at the first ministers official residence in edinburgh, including the attempted rape. Mr salmond is accused of pushing a woman against a wall, removing her clothing and his own, before pinning her to a bed and attempting to rape her. Mr salmonds facing a total of 14 charges, including incidents in 2008 when he is alleged to have kissed a woman on the mouth and touched her buttocks and breast with his hand over her clothing, indecently assaulting a woman in 2010 by seizing her by the wrists, repeatedly pulling her towards him and attempting to kiss her, sexually assaulting a woman in november or december 2013 by removing her shoe, lifting herfoot towards his mouth and attempting to kiss her foot, assaulting the same woman in december 2013 by lying on top of her, struggling with her and pulling up her dress with intent to rape her. The last of the alleged incidents said to have happened just days before he left office as first minister. The trial will take place in march next year, when mr salmond says he will strenuously defend his innocence. Now, there is obviously huge Public Interest in this case, but there are also very strict court rules about what anybody can say about it in public. So even though we are in the middle of a general election, youre very unlikely to hear any politician commenting on this or trying to make it into an election issue. Now its time for a look at the weather with chris fawkes. Hello there. For many of us, it was a cloudy day with a cold wind blowing. The satellite picture shows the extent of todays cloud and this zone of thicker cloud is a weather front is been bringing rain to wales in southwest england and shower cloud following. This lot is all pushing northward so over the there will be rain at times moving across england and wales, eventually reaching Northern Ireland later on. Showers on to southern wales and southern coastal counties of england. Might even hear an odd rumble of thunder from some of these heavier downpours. For many of us, it is a frost free night in a cloudy skies and temperatures three to 6 degrees but there could be one or two areas that see some lower temperatures. Perhaps an odd nip frost if the clouds part for any length of time. Tomorrow, a cloudy day coming up in a few showers pushing northward initially and then the zone of heavy rain across southern england before pivoting towards wales at the southwest. Turning heavier later in the day. The winds are a little bit stronger, but i dont think it will feel quite chilly as it did on thursday. That is your weather. Hello this is bbc news with lu kwesa burak. The headlines. Jeremy corbyn launches labours election manifesto, calling it the most ambitious plan in decades to transform britain. Alex salmond appears in court accused of Sexual Offences while he was first minister of scotland. He denies the charges. Prince andrew is seen for First Time Since stepping back from royal duties over thejeffrey epstein scandal. Firefighters in South Australia have been battling flames near adelaide creating a smoky haze in the region. Two metal detectorists have been found guilty of stealing and concealing a viking hoard of coins and jewellery worth millions of pounds much of which is still missing. I want to know when i can go. Also coming up, why coldplay have decided not to go on tour to promote their new album because theyre worried about climate change. More now from todays election campaigning, and one of the most pressing issues for politicians is how to tackle the social care crisis for adults in the uk. After years of cuts to council budget, experts say it would cost an extra £8 billion to restore the levels of care available to 2010 levels. The tories have said theyll put an extra £1 billion into social care for each of the next five years, but experts say thats simply not enough. Labour sets out a plan for a National Care service, which would include free personal care, costing around £6 billion. So, thats labours plan. Lets hear from the Party Leaders themselves. What were doing is already under this government we have put £3. 9 billion, a record amount, into social care. Since i came in 120 days ago, we put in another £1. 5 billion to help local authorities with adult and children social care. This is a problem that is going to develop and we must deal with it. So, we are putting 1 billion every year into making sure that. 1 billion extra every year to make sure we can recruit the staff to deal with the problem. And we will also bring the parties together because kind of like the nhs now, this is an area where there is a growing Cross Party Consensus about the way forward. And what i can tell you is our policy will have two principles, as you say. One, that we give everybody dignity and security in old age. And number two, no one has to sell their home to pay for the cost of their care. If you are reaching old age, labour is on your side. Applause. You see, were inclusive. Very inclusive. Well protect pensions and provide free personal care for those who need it. Applause. With me is Harry Quilter pinner, a Senior Research fellow at the institute for Public Policy research, a progressive think tank, with expertise in social and economic policy. Thank you for coming in this evening. First offjust how bad is the social care crisis . It is very serious and teen indeed. Since 2010 we have seen significant cuts and not at the same level of spending we wear then. That has resulted in hundreds of thousands of people west getting state support for their care at a time where we have got more older people in need. There are now over1 Million People who need to care out there but are not receiving it. 2010 levels, where they enough in the first place . Was that ever enough . For a long time now we have been talking about the need for a Long Term Fund for social ca re need for a Long Term Fund for social care the way we have for the nhs and successive politicians from leave and onwards have failed to grab this issue. Theyve set it as a party and have failed to come up with a long term issue. We still have not gotten the funding that we need. When talking about solutions, looking into social care how society has changed, it seems to be a very complex picture. Take us through the die mentions of social care for the other because it is different for different age groups . People might need social care in their younger if they have a disability or need care in the home. But actually the big challenge we face is as we get older, we have got an ageing population, we have more and more people who need support to live independently, get up, get dressed, get food. And the social care system is supposed to provide that but actually its failing to do that and we have got to fix that. By not providing that, what sort of impact is this having on society . If you can is this having on society . If you ca n afford is this having on society . If you can afford it, it means you are paying for it yourself potentially out of your savings or wealth, but the majority people are relying on friends, families or carrots or they are struggling without them going day in day out and see more people having to go to the hospital because they phone over in the home because they phone over in the home because they havent got the care they need to live independently. The Prime Minister says money will be guaranteed over the next five years. Is that figure realistic, he mentioned an extra £1 billion for five years . Not at all. We estimate for the proposals put forward which is essentially putting money back into the systems and to meetjust a man but also to extend the entitlement. We have called for free personal care. That would mean the ca re personal care. That would mean the care that you receive in the home if you are elderly and need social care would be free at the point of need just like the nhs. We have said that means by 2030, we would have to almost double the amount we are spending. Almost an extra £20 billion per year. What strikes me about this is the Prime Minister spoke primarily about the other way and yes there is a crisis there but i was looking at example of social ca re i was looking at example of social care budgets and Merseyside Council say there is increasing demand and their childrens social care budget is forecast to be nearly £1 million over budget. How big a crisis is there for children social care . Its huge. What we have got is more and more people who are living when they would have tragically died young of disabilities which is a Great Success story, but it neat means we need more ongoing support for as they get older and throughout their life we have to maintain a happy and healthy life. A lot of authorities are that is the biggest pressure on their budget. For example, the labour party have endorsed free personal care for over 65. That is great. They have not yet made a commitment for people with working aged with children. That has to be a priority. Where to start and how do you start to fix the crisis once you get the money, where should the go first off . We have talked so much about funding we have not talked about funding we have not talked about reform. Its all about relationship, no fancy drugs or equipment, its about relationship with the carer. It needs to go to the workforce. We have tragically underpaid workers, over half of care workers are living less than a living wage so we have to make sure they are properly trained and paid and have the skills they have to ta ke and have the skills they have to take the time and care for elderly people. Harry quilterpinner, thank you very much forjoining us. You are watching bbc news. A lawyer representing some of sex offender, Jeffrey Epsteins victims, says she hopes Prince Andrew will keep his word after saying he is willing to co operate with ongoing investigations. The prince has announced that hes stepping back from royal duties for the forseeable future. Heres our royal correspondent, nicholas witchell. Leaving home in windsor this morning, seemingly as normal, Prince Andrew bound for Buckingham Palace and further meetings to reshape the next phase of his life. Arriving at the palace to offer her advice and support, his ex wife the duchess of york. Andrew wont now perform public engagements for the foreseeable future, but it is suggested he may still appear at trooping the colour, the annual celebration of his mothers birthday, though whether he will do so in the uniform of colonel of the grenadier guards is less clear. Similarly, its suggested hell still lay a wreath at the cenotaph on remembrance sunday. He is after all a former serving officer in the royal navy. Whats much clearer now is that its the core members of the royal family, those who appeared together on the palace balcony for the diamond jubilee, who represent the future. This episode has seen Prince Charles exercise his authority alongside the queen. They were the ones who decided that andrew had to step back before damage was done to the monarchy itself. There is an immediate question as to whether andrew will present himself for questioning by the us authorities about his friendship with the convicted sex offenderjeffrey epstein. In his Statement Last night, andrew said, of course i am willing to help any appropriate Law Enforcement agency with their we do think its a good, positive step that he says hes going to cooperate with Law Enforcement, but wed like to see that happen. Is he going to, for example, fly to the United States and voluntarily meet with our fbi . Will he sit for depositions . Here, Andrews Links with more organisations are being severed. Hes stepped down as chancellor of huddersfield university, and as patron of the Outward Bound trust. He will have much less to do. Hes funded by an allowance from the queens private income. Its not known whether that will now be cut. Nicholas witchell, bbc news. More witnesses have been giving evidence to the last day of the Public Committee inquiry into the potential impeachment of President Trump. They include fiona hill, the former top russian expert on the National Security council, and david holmes, the counsellor for Political Affairs at the us embassy in ukraine. At the heart of the inquiry is whether President Trump tried to influence ukraine into opening an investigation into the son of democrat president ial hopefuljoe biden. 0ur washington correspondent, Chris Buckler has been watching proceedings. First off great to see you. What happened today . Just resumed that for us. Today was one of those days whenever we heard from two people who were at the centre of Foreign Policy and what we got was a real sense of the frustration among us officials and diplomats at the way a shadow Foreign Policy was being operated under the orders of President Trump. Essentially they we re President Trump. Essentially they were getting on with the business of trying to talk to ukraine, build relationships with the new president zele ns ky relationships with the new president zelensky who was coming in and at the same time President Trump had appointed among others his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani and also the Us Ambassador to the eu Gordon Sondland to push for this investigation into his political rivaljoe biden. Fiona held at 16 talk about the fact that they were involved in what she described as a domestic political errand. Basically doing something in order to benefit donald trump domestically in the United States while they were changing get on with the business of National Security and Foreign Policy. Certainly we got a sense from her testimony today that there we re from her testimony today that there were many who felt very uncomfortable with what was happening. At the heart of this like we is whether President Trump tried to influence infants in ukraine and an investigation intojoe bidens sa ntos an investigation intojoe bidens santos of to influence investigations. We have had the public hearings and hearing what has been set for some has this been in any way damaging to President Trump . I think there is no doubt that President Trump has had some testimony that has damaged him and i think there have been points whenever republicans have looked uncomfortable not least whenever President Trump has decided to tweet back his response at certain points. But the battle lines have been drawn. It is very clear that republicans have decided that they are not going to do anything but just remain loyal to the president while democrats are going to push this whole line of impeachment. There have been suggestions today that they have decided that this will be the last of the public hearings. There are a number of people they would like to speak to. They are not going to go ahead with china have a court battle to make them appear before the committee. Instead, they are going to get on with the business of writing a report which they would then hand to the judiciary report which they would then hand to Thejudiciary Committee report which they would then hand to the Judiciary Committee and they will then look at potential articles of impeachment and we could be looking at a vote to impeach President Trump before christmas. |j was President Trump before christmas. was going to ask you just how strong the democrats case is looking and what is likely to happen next. How are the public reacting to all of this stress . You can imagine they are split. Democrats feel very strongly that the president has abused his powers. Republicans feel very strongly that the president did nothing wrong. He was only asking for investigations into his concerns by potential corruption even though he provided no evidence of anything like corruption againstjoe biden or his son hunter. But of course, all of this is a congressional matter and in some ways the public will have their say in a years time when we have a president ial election. In the meantime here is how it is going to operate. The house of representatives is likely to have a vote before christmas. There is a majority there of democrats and therefore President Trump is likely to be impeached. That means essentially he is sent to the senate for a trial there with the 100 senators acting as jurors to decide whether or not mr trump was responsible for high crimes and misdemeanors as the grand title grows but a sponge essentially abusing his power. As it is there is abusing his power. As it is there is a republican majority in the senate. That is mr trump on site party and asa that is mr trump on site party and as a result, it is highly, highly unlikely that he will lose his position as president. But you can imagine it is only going to fuel many peoples concerns and many peoples anger as they prepare for the president ial election in november 2020. Two metal detectorists have been found guilty of stealing a £3 million viking hoard described as of national importance. George powell and Layton Davies were convicted of concealing the find, which they dug up in a field in herefordshire in 2015. A jury at Worcester Crown court also found coin sellers simon wicks and paul wells guilty of conspiring to conceal the treasure. Robert hall reports. In an isolated herefordshire field, the search for a crime scene with links to the earliest kings of england. We were invited to film the secret operation after social media alerted people to the activities of two metal detectorists and the presence of a treasure buried by a viking over a thousand years ago. The detectorists, Leighton Davies and george powell, maintained they had been searching the land with permission when they stumbled across the hoard. They deleted the photos they took at the time, but police recovered them. Davies and powell knew what that had found was certainly a treasure trove and, under the law, they had just 14 days to declare it. But as the court heard, their priority was to establish how much the items were worth. Those enquiries suggested that the treasure could be valued at millions of pounds. The British Museum showed us items the detectorists did declare, exquisite gold jewellery from the time of alfred and perfectly preserved coin showing an alliance between the kingdoms of wessex and murcia. This is certainly one of the most important hoards to turn up from the anglo saxon or viking period, in terms of the information that we can derive about alfreds relations with the vikings, about his relations with the rest of england. But had the accused declared all of theirfinds . The photos seem to show hundreds of buried coins. Police believe some of them ended up in the hand of co accused simon wicks and paul wells. Wicks, filmed here at his shop in 2011, took two batches of coins to a london dealer. The detectorists asked wells to advise them on valuation and Police Searching his home found several more coins hidden inside the case of a magnifying glass. Davies and powell insisted all but two coins had come from another site, but the jury were not convinced. If you think that metal detecting is a lucrative business from which you can make a profit, it isnt. It is something that we will pursue this, the public care about it, we care about it and we will do everything we can to recover property that belongs to our country, our history, and our culture. Four years after this investigation began, two mysteries remain unsolved. Where are the hundreds of missing coins and how did objects so important to Englands National story end up in such an isolated spot . Robert hall, bbc news, worcester. Its all because theyre worried about climate change. Their lead singer chris martin has been talking exclusively to our entertainment correspondent, colin paterson. Chris martin, here we are. Hello. At the amman citadel here injordan. Why have you taken us here . We wanted to basically pick somewhere in what we consider the middle of the world, and in the middle of the biggest area where we normally dont get to play, and bands like us dont come here very often. And also, its just so beautiful and makes me fizzle with excitement. How difficult is it for bands who believe in Environmental Issues to go on world tours at the moment . Well, that is a great question. Were not touring this album. Were taking time over the next year or two to work out how can. Not only our tour be sustainable, but how can it be actively beneficial . How can we harness the resources that our tour creates and make it have a positive impact . The hardest thing is the flying side of things. But, for example, our dream is to have a show with no single use plastic, to have it be largely solar powered. Glastonbury. You are so part of that festival now. In the southwest, we have shower clouds showing their hands. That lot is going be pushed northwards overnight. We get a band of rain moving in, reaching Northern Ireland later in the night. Followed by those showers, frequent, some of them heavy, might even hear an odd rumble of thunder. Its a cloudy night. Temperatures 3 6 degrees. Frost free for most. But if we do see any lengthier breaks, we could see a touch of frost developing. Tomorrow, cloudy day coming up. A few showers pushing northwards. Later in the day, we see an area of rain initially develop across southern england before swinging into wales and the southwest, where the rain becomes heavier and slow moving. Although the winds are a little bit stronger tomorrow, i dont think theyre going to feel quite as chilly. The rain will continue to be slow moving through friday night, particularly across southwest england, especially across parts of cornwall. So we could see some localised surface flooding here. The weekend . A wet start for many of us. Cloudy with outbreaks of rain. Sunday looks to be the better of the two days of the weekend. For many of us, a drier day but its pretty cloudy. Saturday, low pressure firmly in charge. Outbreaks of rain will pushed northwards across england and wales, Northern Ireland, reaching parts of scotland to the afternoon. The north of scotland probably staying dry with occasional brighter spells. Of course, the rain is the last thing we need given that the ground remains completely saturated. 0n into the second half of the day, that rain becoming increasingly heavy across eastern scotland and that rain will be pouring down as we go through saturday night and some brisk winds here for time. Into sunday, that rain that will be affecting 0rkney and shetland. Clearing away. Will follow with a drier weather with a few showers but a lot of cloud. Later in the day, the next weather system from the atlantic. Return of outbreaks of rain to wales and southwest england, which of course is the last thing we really need. Thats your latest weather. Bye for now. Hello, im ros atkins. This is 0utside source. Well start in israel where Benjamin Netanyahu, has been charged with corruption. Hes accused of bribery, breach of trust and fraud.
