Some real inaccuracies in this lots of you are getting in touch already about deepfakes. Adam on twitter says my first question is programme. some real inaccuracies in this programme. Dues. Ithink some real inaccuracies in this why, if not for corruption and programme. Dues. I think its right to highlight them and people misleading people . What use is this are called to account. But i think technology . It should be made netflix are, in the future should be illegal, it said no purpose in working with holocaust organisations society. Images are much more powerful than the conservatives have renewed their assault on what they call labours hundreds of thousands of words. Reckless Spending Plans if they win the general election. Well, unfortunately, we cannot hear that properly at all, to be able to they say a Labour Government have to carry on without interview, which is hike up taxes to pay its policies. A shame. We can also speak tojudith webster, ceo of the music for youth the england winger Raheem Sterling wont play in the European Championship qualifier against montengro charity. On thursday after whats been described as a disturbance at the training ground. Welcome, all of you. Ali, you are unsure about doing this in the first sterling, who plays place, why not . You think about it, for manchester city, is reported to have been involved in a confrontation with you are performing in front of liverpools joe gomez, hours after the pair clashed people, that nerve racking. I am on the pitch during their going in front of people. At the teams match on sunday. Royal albert hall. Its huge. You think, my god, i dont want to do thats all from me, back to you, this, you know what . I want to be known, i want people to know my joanna. Thank you, rachel. Two deepfake videos depicting name, iam known, i want people to know my name, i am ali and i can sing. Good Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn endorsing each other for you. Apart from wanting people for Prime Minister have been released today. Its a stunt by future advocacy to know your name, what work the messages, was it because of the a group which specialises in the challenges of artificial message, what its about . Yes, it is intelligence and emerging technologies. Theyre calling on all Political Parties to Work Together to tackle about people making the wrong the threats posed by deepfakes and other online disinformation. Choice. Because you know, young 0ur reporter catrin nye has had exclusive, behind the scenes, access people in life, sometimes they make to see how the videos are made. Bad choices, sometimes they go into gangs, but right now, this hi, folks. I am here with a very special message. Once upon a time, i called performance is showing that people for a kinder, gentler politics. From my area arent like, encouraged these two deepfake videos have hit the internet, timed for the election. To do Gang Violence, and meant to do all of that, we are here to sing, to 0ne shows Boris Johnson endorsing Jeremy Corbyn. Show the people of london that we. And endorse my worthy opponent, the right honourable Jeremy Corbyn, to be Prime Minister. Cant do stuff and we can work another shows Jeremy Corbyn together as a team. Josephine, backing borisjohnson. Back borisjohnson to continue powerful message in a obviously, as our Prime Minister. What was it that you to this project weve been behind the scenes how does it chime with your for the whole making of. First up, the team identify experience of life . Its been said the people they want to make into a deepfake and choose a target video. Thats the video youll that newham is one of the most see in the end result. Deprived areas of london. Sol it needs to be longer in duration than the finished product. That newham is one of the most deprived areas of london. So i think people would have a perception of us the source video is. That a lot of us might be would look like this. Delinquents or we dont have much of the background would be the same, the suit would be the same . A priority on education and things 0k. But the mouth would like that and i think its important move differently. Yeha, 0k. We want to have a bit of humour, that we come together to show that but in a way that isnt offensive. Stuff like that might happen in our i literally spent hours and hours reviewing their videos. Borisjohnson actually area but thats not the main focus does a lot of videos. Of the area, most of us want to theres loads of videos, whereas corbyn tends to do just statements. I really like this video, achieve great things. Thats really important for me. I do know people but the problem with it is the reflection in his glasses more difficult to replicate. A lot of other Boris Johnson videos are just him on his phone. Again, arent great for this purpose. Have just assumed a certain thing so the best option i found about them. People have assumed that is borisjohnson does the peoples Prime Ministers questions. My brother was a delinquent, for and first. Example, when in fact he wasnt at this is, ithink, maybe my all which was really annoying. What most preferred option. Happened to your brother . M i like the colours in this as well, all which was really annoying. What happened to your brother . If you dont mind saying. Its fine. He which i think works nicely with the seriousness of the message. We nt dont mind saying. Its fine. He went to buy something from morrisons the team researched the personality and he went out without a receipt, traits, language and the quirks of the person theyre he went to little and because he going to be faking. So this is borisjohnsons one. Didnt have the receipt from hi, folks. Morrisons they assumed he was im here at, or im here in. Stealing stuff from lidl as well and hi, folks, im here at manchester. Fantastic. 0r passionately. Passionately. They realise it must have had get brexit done. Quite an impact on him and you. Yes,. Is getting brexit done. Take back control. Taking back control. It was really annoying that they just assumed that he did something with Jeremy Corbyn, again, and didnt even bother to get his very similar for the many. For the many. Not the few. Not just the few. People before privilege. Side. Andrea, how do you see the people come before privilege. Project and how does it chime for disastrous. You with what you know where you then, its the actual script. What are they going to say in these videos . Live . As has been said, we know that he uses hi, folks in almost every video, so we should definitely start newham is one of the most deprived with hi, folks. So, hi, folks. Areas in london. And it obviously at the beginning of the video, it comes across like a Real Campaign video until both of the candidates unfortunately deals with issues of then endorse each other to become the next Prime Minister, before finally revealing themselves gangs and knife crime, however, i to be deepfakes. We want to hook the viewers, but we dont want to deceive them. Think one of the messages that throw in a reference to a greek people can take away from this opera myth here, potentially . Is that it doesnt define us, often hes used the phrase when i was first elected labour leader. When you look at the media, our would he say that . Were the Political Class. A question he uses sometimes is, do you know what . Borough is either not represented at all or represented in quite a do you know what . Negative way. And while those are he says it a bit like that. He uses it a lot, doesnt he . Issues that plague us, as i said, yeah. We have the big reveal hes a deepfake they dont define us and this is kind of a way as saying this is who whats he going to say . The script is written to be politically balanced. Its not about party politics. We are, this is what we can do, we we want all politicians to engage on this issue. Are not defined by the trouble is the actual deepfake videos will be produced by this man, barney francis, also known that we face. Judith, youve got three cracking role models. Its by his artist name bill posters. He was behind the Mark Zuckerberg obviously impressive to hear them and Kim Kardashian deepfakes that talk and its an impressive project, went viral earlier this year. How do you feel about it . These their data has made me rich beyond my wildest dreams. Proms are very spectacular and they were created in enormous events that we run every response to recent global year. You are all involved in one of scandals concerning data, democracy and privacy. The mass ensembles which is quite a we just want to predict your future behaviours. Centrepiece for these concerts at theres a lot of interesting deepfakes at the moment the Royal Albert Hall that involved because they kind of give a kind 1000 Young Musicians and i think of tangible or material form whats important for us is that we potentially to a lot of the deeper mistrusts that people have around are able to give a platform for young people to have their say, just the ways in which personal data can be used in unexpected ways like you have done. And thats both by powerful technologies, through music and i think its but also by kind of powerful corporate or political fantastic to be able to put across entities as well. Something thats really positive and and i think because they are thatis something thats really positive and that is about celebrating young a multisensory experience and were people s achievements and aspirations and thats our role, to used to trusting what we see and what we hear, it kind of creates enable that, to facilitate that, for this space really where people can engage quite deeply with often quite young people all over the country who can come together in projects kind of abstract, difficult to grasp like the proms which are later on. Concepts concerning data privacy, technology and democracy. Has it changed your outlook, ali . Since glastonbury, i am funjeremy now. Definitely. When i first did it, it now the team need to source a voice actor whos going to play the part of the deepfakes. Its notjust a Computer Generated was at stratford theatre. I never voice, as you may think. There are a few different thought i would have been there. Kinds of deepfakes. 0ne famous sort is face swapping, where a persons face is digitally its come so far from three schools grafted onto another persons, like this one. To 600 people performing at the Royal Albert Hall, i never thought i thats nicolas cages face would be coming on tv, its amazing. On everyone in lord of the rings the fellowship of the ring. What do you want to do . Obviously i the deepfakes that this team are making use video dialogue replacement. Wa nt to what do you want to do . Obviously i want to enjoy all of the friends basically, it means that youre just that ive made throughout this changing the words being said in an existing video. Journey. Enjoy the performance that we are going to have to die. And and it uses some clever Artificial Intelligence techniques to match hopefully it will be amazing. We the mouth in the existing video with the new words. Are going to have today. as David Attenborough you join the voiceover artist in his natural habitat. Hopefully it will be amazing. We are going to have today. I know someone has sent something through at a studio in soho in london, while theyve been watching. Its the team record the audio and video not loading on my phone, im hoping of the voice actors speaking the script in high quality. To get it but im sure everyone is they also film his mouth. Watching, feeling like me, its absolutely infectious. Has it 0ne voice that im working changed your outlook in terms of where you go in the future, on isjosh widdicombe, you see. Yes, yes. As Michael Mcintyre have you ever noticed, josephine . I think i ladies and gentlemen . Have you ever noticed . Where you go in the future, josephine . I thinki definitely where you go in the future, josephine . I think i definitely have more confidence because of this awesome. Hi, folks, im here with project. Before, iactually a very special message. Its almost like you need to get more confidence because of this project. Before, i actually was the mouth position, though, joining the project i wasnt isnt it, with the wide mouth . Entirely sure about what i wanted to ok, ill be aware of that. Be when i am older and i think being once upon a time, i called pa rt of be when i am older and i think being part of this project gave me for a kinder, gentler politics. Confidence in general, just yeah, darren, that was good but its confidence in general, just a little bit monotonous. Confidence about singing, confidence at futureadvocacy. Org deepfakes. About what i want to do with my life and confidence about talking to great, that was 1 02. Other people sol and confidence about talking to other people so i definitely have a so really, really close, that. Different outlook. Thats good to hear, carol and twitter, 0k, ready for take five . I think i may be one different outlook. Thats good to hear, caroland twitter, ive different outlook. Thats good to hear, carol and twitter, ive got the comment, i am ali from newham of the thousands of deepfakes on the internet. Andi the comment, i am ali from newham and i can sing, say it loud and you hes like, hes milder. Can do whatever you set your mind im here with a very on. You can. Thank you all. I hope special message. If you want to ad lib a few, uhs, ehs, oohs in there. You really enjoy it tonight. Thank uh, no, only he, not i, can make britain great again. You. Lets go back to the news that huzzah laughter. We broke within the last hour, that was a good one. Hackers have mounted a sophisticated yeah, it was really good and large scale yeah, i think so. Hackers have mounted a sophisticated and la rge scale cyber attack i think were good hackers have mounted a sophisticated and large scale cyber attack on the with that, darren. Labour Party Digital platforms, a hi, folks, im here with a very special message. Spokesperson said the incident had they then overlay the new audio been reported to the National Cyber onto the target video. Security centre that they were im not even sure who i am. Confident note data breach had and synchronise the new speech with occurred. Here to tell us more about the gestures and the expressions the challenges Political Parties that exist in the original video. Face in safeguarding their online huzzah campaigns isa face in safeguarding their online this is a really critical campaigns is a privacy and data part of the process, protection expert. Welcome. We dont because the more i can sync up know who is behind this. But what we darrens speech with the original are hearing from the labour party is gestures, the more realistic and believable the contents going to be, and more the authentic that it was sophisticated and determined. What are your initial it will feel as a result. Thoughts . Its a complex matter however, we the Political Class here in westminster, have failed. Because when Something Like this barney and eric then get news happens in the middle of a campaign of an election announcement. People start to worry and thats the uk is heading for a general election in december. Understandable. Of course, its something that needs to be looked. Which they were hoping for, to make the video nice and timely. Into and quite carefully. The labour an elections going to happen Party Spokesman said there is no how do you feel . This is perfect perfect for this campaign. Personal breach that theyve been perfect for this campaign but quite nerve racking. Able, they said the attack failed the very technical bit but of course we will have to see of the production using Artificial Intelligence to build the deepfakes what happens and what this really is done by a team in was. Obviously things are getting israel called canny ai. More sophisticated, you know, the im 0mer. More sophisticated, you know, the im jonathan. More the campaigns Political Parties some hours later, use digital as a means to campaign the deepfake is ready. And engage with voters in the population the more they are exposed its last minute corrections from the team. So they need to make sure they have so darrens impersonation of corbyn was excellent. The only issue is that the tone sufficient security measures in is a bit too low, so were place to prevent and stop and make going to need to digitally raise the pitch. These attacks fail. We will have to a Prime Minister that works for the many. And then its ready see in the next few hours what we to release online. The unregulated power know, they say it was sophisticated of technologies like this risk fuelling misinformation, but we will have to see. Ive got a eroding trust and compromising , eh, democracy. Yes, yes. Letter sent internally within the labour party so i will read it out. Yet no new laws are in place to govern. As many of you will have experienced things have to change. Since yesterday afternoon many of help us root out deepfakes, not my marrows, at the Labour Party Campaign systems have either been working very slowly futureadvocacy. Org deepfa kes. Or have had reduced functionality, cani or have had reduced functionality, can i apologise as i know how much you as campaigners rely on those systems, i feel its you as campaigners rely on those systems, ifeel its important you as campaigners rely on those systems, i feel its important you know the reasons for these issues at the end of the video, viewers be directed to our website and the actions were taken to remedy full of information about deepfakes the situation and above all to and their potential to fuel protect the integrity of our misinformation and undermine trust. Campaign platforms. Yesterday afternoon our Security Systems identified in a very short period of castigate. Redindo. Time there were large scale and sophisticated attacks on labour mores. Party platforms which are the aah intention of taking out systems entirely, taking them entirely off line. Every single one of these iamjoined by i am joined by some people very well attem pts placed to talk about the issues to off line. Every single one of these attempts failed due to our robust Security Systems and the integrity of all our platforms and data was do without, but im also going to bring you some news from the labour maintained however the effect of party, Labour Party Spokesperson increased security protocols we put in place has reduced the full saying they have experienced a functionality of a campaign systems, sophisticated cyber attack on labour its temporary and i anticipate the digital platforms. They said we took full functionality returning this swift action and these attempts morning, i appreciate it is failed due to our robust security frustrating but i am sure you understand why we have taken the systems. The integrity of all action, or print deadlines this week platforms was maintained and we are have been extended by 2a hours. Confident no data breach occurred. These procedures have slow dance and obviously as we are saying, we dont campaign activities, these have been know who is behind this. Mines will restored this morning and we are go all over the place, the usual back to full speed, we have reported suspects, will come to mind. In terms of tracking down who did it, the matter to the National Cyber security centre. I suppose thats how easy is that . It depends, it its quite well with what we are talking about now. Could be there are already lets talk now to areeq chowdhury, speculations about it as we have head of think tank future advocacy seen on twitter. Already people which came up with the idea saying its and commissioned the deep fakes. Seen on twitter. Already people you saw him there in catrins film. Saying its external interference Jamie Susskind is author of the book future politics living together but. Saying its external interference but external states. In a world transformed by tech. Saying its external interference but externalstates. In saying its external interference but external states. In a situation like this your mind goes and Sarah Manavis is a Digital Culture writer and people think about this but its at the new statesman magazine. Important to ascertain what happened. Whether it was an act of i have seen someone calling it digital welcome, to all of you. Areeq vandalism, not that sophisticated but more an act of digital vandalism chowdhury, what do you make of that . Or whether there is something more we have very Little Details but structural coming from an organised actor so i think its important to labour saying they have managed to understand what really happened. Thwart a cyber attack . Look out i obviously its a tricky time, we are think it is a good example of how in the middle of a campaign, we have seen a lot of talk over the last few much of a sitting target the election system is. We dont have months about what is happening to any Details Behind this, if it is a the digital ecosystem, how it can be breached, and how dangerous that malicious attack, i think it could be so i think the next few underlines that we need to be thinking a lot more about what is hours will be really important, happening with democracy online, certainly its not a nice story to that fits in very well with the wa ke certainly its not a nice story to wake up to. We were talking point to a changing make today about obviously about the deep fakes and deepfakes point to a changing make today about deepfa kes and point to a changing make today about deepfakes and misinformation. We have known for years that elections how Much Technology can impact on our democracy. It is a changing area have known for years that elections are a target online, how much has changed. Jamie, how much of a platform and obviously theres lots we dont understand with things that threat to democracy do videos like are coming in, theres lots you can the ones we have seen pose . We have identify where something isnt to assume they will only get better, correct but it muddies the waters, and if they do, i think there are doesnt it . Totally and i think the two big risks, one is that people do problem is technology is moving so not believe what is in front of fast, its moving so fast and them, even if it is true, the other sometimes regulators, politicians, is that people believe things, even they find it hard to really keep up if they are false. That is toxic to and understand what the tools are a political culture where we try to the need to implement but of course deliberate what is best for the country and the effect would the need to implement but of course basically be that the quality of the impact on democracy can be huge deliberation could be decayed, because things like for example people would also have less faith in online digital advertising, the fact the legitimacy of electoral outcomes if they felt they had been unfairly that you can hack into people swung if they felt they had been unfairly swuiig one way or witnessing and you can target them if they felt they had been unfairly swung one way or the other by technologies such as this. I repeat based on their fears, witnessing and you can target them based on theirfears, their worries, that they are in their infancy and desires and dreams and that means you can actually manipulate people they will only get more and the problem is this is a new field for everybody. Technology is sophisticated. How much is actually going really fast. This discrepancy out there at the moment, areeq, and the symmetry between how Fast Technology is going and how as because you have produced some very impactful videos but is it being humans we remain as human beings is used right now, the deepfake a real issue in society we are living in so i think in the last technology . There are 15,000 deepfakes on the internets, latest year, for example, i think we have seen the most Amazing Things coming out of digital so incredible Things Research shows, 96 of which are pornographic. But as janie said, happening, improvement on a large this is in its infancy, and we are scale but i also think we have seen trying to make the point that we some of the worst things. Thank you have time to think about where this some of the worst things. Thank you so much. Within the last hour at the technology will go in the next few yea rs. Technology will go in the next few years. I think the problem so far Brexit Party Mep Alexandra Phillips has tweeted out will be one of the with regulating social media is that millions of people who will not vote we are so with regulating social media is that we are so late to the game that by at all in the general election. That the time we turn up, the game has brea ks at all in the general election. That breaks my heart been played, the fans have gone home and the floodlights have been switched off. I think we have time to get ahead of this kind of technology, as jamie said it could it comes in response to the brexit really decay trusted genuine video footage as well as this fabricated Party Leader Nigel farage was my decision not to stand candidates in footage. 96 other than our related seats the tories won at the last election. Alexandra joins us now to pornography, is it being done at from our brussels studio, why arent you voting . Because i can vote for all in the political arena at the moment, are you saying not yet, but the brexit party, they are not standing in my constituency, i am a we wa nt moment, are you saying not yet, but we want to make sure we do not get brexit party mep, are we going to go there . There is an example in india and cast my vote for a rival party, at the moment, a politician is i dont back borisjohnson s deal. Alleged to have been involved in a so the choice is taken away from me sex scandal, he claims it is a in my constituency. I am going to be deepfake, i am sex scandal, he claims it is a deepfake, iam not sex scandal, he claims it is a deepfake, i am not completely sure one of millions, i assume, who will about the details. Where will this also find it comes to their First Technology go in the next five to choice party they are not going to ten years . We have already seen even be on the ballot paper. Presumably in this election the so called nigel farage, he believes that Boris Johnson s deal is brexit, he said shallow fakes, videos that are previously it wasnt brexit and slightly edited to make things look thats why we wanted to stand ina slightly edited to make things look in a different way. That desire is candidates in all the constituencies, now not he presumably happy with the deal and almost already there. We saw an letting tory candidates stand example of keir starmer uncatchable unchallenged by brexit candidates. So why dont you follow him on that . Good morning britain, lets look at what happens, that was edited down. He doesnt think that borisjohnson s deal as it currently stands is brexit, he is reassured in the boris on good app morning britain. Johnson are saying about moving forward from the situation, ensuring what happens, that was edited down. On good app morning britain. Why will the eu give you a good deal if the transition period is kept to an they know we will actively campaign absolute minimum. And fighting for a against it . Now lets look at the pure and simple Free Trade Agreement and that is what nigel once, a clean break brexit, he has been reassured original, the previous was the in the last couple of days that deepfake. Bible the eu give you a borisjohnson is in the last couple of days that Boris Johnson is going in the last couple of days that borisjohnson is going in that direction, he has former good deal if they know you will conversations behind the scenes and actively campaign against it, which ido, of conversations behind the scenes and i do, of course, but what he has is clearly what notes to view will done tactically and what he has done be doing . 0blak i have been talking because of this first past the post to the eu, to political leaders, three years. I know very well the system, what he has done is staved off the greatest electoral threat to parameters of any deal they would do brexit which is getting 50 or 60 odd with a Labour Government. Syrah, we liberal democrats into parliament cant always believe what we see, with a very different narrative of wanting to revoke article 50 but with an example like that it is altogether. He essentially had to quite easy to debunk it, so what do sever a limb altogether. He essentially had to severa limb in altogether. He essentially had to sever a limb in some respects to you think the impact is . It is hold the whole body together. sever a limb in some respects to hold the whole body together. Is it a mistake from him . I dont think echoing what areeq and jamie had its a mistake, its a necessity but said. When you have videos like this its a mistake, its a necessity but it is sad. Alexandra phillips, thank it is notjust a matter that you have a video that has been edited you. Thank you for your company. Bbc and now it has to be debunked, it is newsroom live is coming up next. See you soon. The cultural impact, suddenly we do not trust anything we see online. There are increasing examples of really, really fine tuned editing that make things look much more good morning. Rather unsettled not severe, that are even more blatant just today but for much of the rest edits than that. In the us last year of the week, it will be wet and there was a very famous clip of a windy at times, weve already had plenty of rain across many areas reporter questioning donald trump as an intern try to take the microphone this morning. The showers, longer spells of rain drifting their way away from him, he gently patted her southwards as we had through the afternoon into central and southern hand away. The White House Press england and a little bit of rain for secretary, later that day, some of the flood stricken areas to hand away. The White House Press secretary, laterthat day, released the week. Some strong gusts of wind a video that clip that had been slightly edited to make sure he had is particularly in north wales, effectively karate chop this young across liverpool bay, the wind intern. What has happened is we are easing, brisk and chilly north westerly, added wind chill starting to see this happening, it factoring into the temperatures is not something that isjust no today, feeling rather cold. We are infora today, feeling rather cold. We are in for a cold one overnight. Ridge effecting politics, it has already begun. Lots of people are getting in of High Pressure developing, lighter touch, lives on twitter says this is when staying dry, some clear skies, totally scary, we know it can happen we will see a widespread frost but to see it done its frightening, developing tomorrow morning for many of us, dry and bright towards does this mean we cant trust eastern areas tomorrow, in fact it anything on social media regarding will be a dry morning just about whatjohnson and anything on social media regarding everywhere but rain easing into what johnson and corbyn anything on social media regarding whatjohnson and corbyn say . Agencies given i dont believe south west england, South West Wales as we had through the afternoon, anything politicians tell us these will be the top temperatures. Nowadays, deepfakes will not make it temperatures across eastern scotland worse. Margaret, incredulous, why is may not get above freezing for much this allowed . What a travesty, it of the day. Very cold day ahead. Serves no purpose and needs to be stopped. An anonymous text, i think these deepfake videos are a total waste of time, notjust these deepfake videos are a total waste of time, not just for these deepfake videos are a total waste of time, notjust for people to see that for it to be reported, the airtime should be used to report more important issues, the people involved in making these videos may have impressive editing talents but are using their skills to damage what is already a catastrophic political situation. Jamie, it is youre watching bbc newsroom live. Possible it is being turning different ways, we have talked about its11. 00am and these are the main the potential impact of that, is stories this morning. There anyway the genie can be put labour says its been hit by a sophisticated and la rge scale cyber attack backin there anyway the genie can be put back in the box . 0blak sticking to on its digital platforms. Deepfakes, there are certain laws already that might capture this kind of activity and a political context, this is the scene live in blackpool whereJeremy Corbyn will shortly make a speech outlining labours edcuation pledges, including a £3 billion strategy for adult maybe the Malicious Communications act, representation of the people act, representation of the people retraining in england. Act, the communications act. Be contractual accords shoehorn these technologies into old legal and all day on bbc news, categories or we could do what has were in Bishop Auckland done and pass a law to deal with finding out why its notjust brexit butjobs, crime and the decline of the high street that are among deepfakes, particularly done and pass a law to deal with deepfa kes, particularly around the big issues for voters. Elections. Perhaps stating they had a warning to those who vape. To declare what they are very doctors say this teenager almost died after vaping caused clearly on their face, otherwise a catastrophic reaction they are illegal, or you could in his lungs. Regulate platforms and see if you i urge everyone not to vape show these and do not question or because i dont want you to end up ta ke show these and do not question or take them down, you will be subject how ive been because i dont wish it on anyone, not to punishment, or make it a licensed or accredited activity, only certain certified people are allowed to perform this function in society. There are a range of regulatory options, the balance is making sure we do not stifle free speech, we do not have the state lumbering in on parody and satire and you dont quash otherwise robust debate, but i think we can do it. Going back to the cyber attack on labour, the Party Spokesperson saying we have experienced a sophisticated and large scale cyber attack on labour digital platforms, it was thwarted, as we said, but going back to that, who might be behind Something Like that . It could literally be anyone, we dont know. In an election campaign, where do your thoughts go . Anyone with any sense to disrupt democracy could have done this, it could have been a foreign state or a teenager in a bedroom. 0bviously could have been a foreign state or a teenager in a bedroom. Obviously i dont know. The point is clearly our elections are at threat to things online, right, whether that is our Political Parties, media, the video content that we view. We need to start thinking about this, the viewer who said focusing on more important issues, this is an important issues, this is an important issue, this Information Online hugely important, so far we have waited until the last minute order nothing at all when it comes to the more traditional form of fake news, this is the next incoming ahead and we should get ahead now. |j dont expect you to know exactly what has gone on, obviously, you said it could even be a teenager in a bedroom and we have seen cases where that has happened. Labour statistically say it is sophisticated and la rge scale. Statistically say it is sophisticated and large scale. How easyis sophisticated and large scale. How easy is it to pick where it has come from . It really depends on the context, without knowing information i cannot comment. Provides fair enough. Thank you all very much. |j definitely have no idea. I think it is important even in the context of deepfakes to know it can be teenagers, notjust of deepfakes to know it can be teenagers, not just major organisations, this is super accessible. Lets go straight to our assistant Political Editor norman smith, have you any more details on the breaking news . Very few. Labour had decided to go public with this, which suggests they believe it was sufficiently serious. They talk about it being large scale and sophisticated, it clearly represented a challenge to their digital platforms. They have reported it to the National Cyber security centre, but i guess why it matters even more is social media and digital platforms are increasingly crucial in election campaigns, and it comes on the very day we heard from the former us president ial candidate Hillary Clinton, she suffered exactly this during the 2016 president ial campaign when you may remember the Democratic Campaign e mail account was hacked and she seemed to be the target of aggressive social media campaigns which many people thought we re campaigns which many people thought were proxies for russian interference. She has spoken out about the report looking into specifically whether russia has an a nyway specifically whether russia has an anyway sort to involve all to get its claws into british democracy precisely through this. That report has been sitting in downing street and not published despite calls by some of the leading figures in the Intelligence Community for it to be published before the election. Downing street has said no, everyone else has said it is ready, Hillary Clinton is now saying she thinks it is unacceptable that the report is not published before the election. Dumbfounded that this government wont release the report about russian influence, because every person who votes in this country deserves to see that report before your election happens. That should be an absolute condition. Because there is no doubt we know it in our country, we have seen it in europe, we have seen it here that russia in particular is determined to try to shape the politics of western democracies. Not to our benefit, but to theirs. Norman, another area proving controversial, labour Spending Plans and the number crunching amended. The tories have produced another document trying to show the level of taxes you might pay underJeremy Corbyn government, but they are by and large based on not much, they are not based on these, manifestos which contain the details of what parties are going to do, and it is difficult to come up with the level of taxes you might have to pay, which has left a lot of people thinking these figures do not add up to much. The tories have not produced the costings of their own policies, all of that has been taken with a pinch of salt, although it is clear that later in this campaign they want to talk about what they say is the cost of corbyn. Businesses are being warned theyre losing out on billions of pounds every year because theyre ignoring the needs of disabled customers. The so called purple pound which refers to the spending power of disabled households is estimated to be £219 billion every year, but its estimated less than 10 of businesses have a targeted plan to access that market. And now new Research Published by the Charity Purple says Poor Customer Service is preventing disabled people from buying what they want and need, both in shops and online. Last year we went met up with connor ward. He has autism and can find shopping stressful. Youve got no idea what could happen. You get all sorts of people in Shopping Centres. Sometimes you get people walking into you and i dont like people touching me. Laughter. In a busy shop, sound has a big part in it. Because music, depending on what it is, can really affect me. So if it is club music, for instance, the beat of that really puts me on edge and makes me really, really anxious. All lights seem too bright. Everything is a bit much. So having them that extra bit brighter makes itjust really, really draining on my eyes. It feels as if im at a rock concert. It is interesting when you get shop assistants come up because i dont particularly like the interaction. You dont want small talk. Ijust like to. Wait for the. I hate pigeons. You get all those perfume counters and all those different smells, its too overwhelming, too much the process. And it almost hurts my nose, which then hurts Everything Else. In Shopping Centres, there is that many things going on that there could be crashes or bangs and they could just tip it over the edge because, if i am already on a high level of stress, that little bit can just be that much just tip me over and, well, explode. Well, today is purple tuesday. As part of it, more than 2,000 organisations including argos and sainsburys have agreed to make long term changes to improve the customer expeirence for disabled people. Customer experience. Lets now talk to mike adams, who uses a wheelchair and is chief executive for the Charity Purple. Hannah witton lives with a hidden disability, a form of inflammatory bowel disease called ulcerative colitis. And marks and spencers head of Sustainable Business is carmel mcquaid. Welcome, all of you, mike, purple tuesday was your idea based on your experiences. Tell us. Two years ago in the run up to christmas, my partner and i went to a Shopping Centre and that day went on to 27 shops. In 23 of the 27 the front line staff either totally ignored us oi line staff either totally ignored us or only spoke to my partner. And we kind of worked out that wasnt about prejudice against disabled people. But it was still a fear of saying the wrong thing, doing the wrong thing and for front line staff, it was the default position was to swerve the conversation altogether. How did you work out thats why it was happening . Because actually we went afterwards to speak to some of the people and say, i am here to spend my money. Why dont you talk to us . And it was, i wasnt sure what to say and purple tuesday is about giving confidence to businesses, giving confidence to staff to understand and see the Business Opportunity that the £219 billion purple count can offer. Hannah, what have your experiences been . For me, my disability requires a sometimes urgent access to a toilet. In shops, to be honest, i have never even come its never occurred to me that there would be toilets there that i can access, ive always assumed there might be some in the back for staff. If i was everin some in the back for staff. If i was ever ina some in the back for staff. If i was ever in a position where my stomach back felt really full and i need to empty it or i was in a flare up then i would leave, because its not signposted anywhere, its not made clear that there are toilets there that i can access. 50, carmel, we are hearing that there is an wedding dissemination sometimes, not deliberately meant but also very practical issues. There is unwitting dissemination. What is your company doing . |j unwitting dissemination. What is your company doing . I think mike and purple tuesday has done a great job in opening up the conversation and helping retailers like us realise theres practical things we can do so theres practical things we can do so earlier in september we ran campaign entitled making everyday accessible, reminding colleagues about the training guides about how they can help customers from deaf awareness to sensory shopping hours and we introduced sunflower lanyards and we introduced sunflower lanyards and all of our stores, i dont know if you know what they look like but they look like this and that an opportunity for customers to wear them and signal discreetly that they need some extra support as they are shopping. This was an idea from colleagues, at least four of our colleagues, at least four of our colleagues across the organisation suggested this, we made it happen and they love it because as you say, mike, they want to deliver Great Service for the customer and sometimes they didnt know how to do that. An anonymous texture got in touch and say i suffer from epilepsy, stress triggers my seizures, im so worried i will have a seizure, i have a sunflower la nya rds to a seizure, i have a sunflower lanyards to use but supermarkets dont help our care. Mike what difference do you think will make . |j difference do you think will make . think it will make a huge difference for a think it will make a huge difference fora group of think it will make a huge difference for a group of people who want to have that level of this greatness. It was interesting, that on your feature, connor doesnt like people coming over to him and actually, by using the lan yard, he can decide if people come over to him or not, for the people, and your research was saying, i just want to be treated like every other customer and in that respect, what you would expect and when i went shopping two years ago for someone to come up and when i went shopping two years ago for someone to come up and say hello, can i help you . Yes, you can. Its different kind of techniques for different kind of people but equipping organisations and front line staff to be able to have the conversation. Its quite a statistic that 75 of disabled people have had to leave a store or website unable to leave a store or website unable to go through with their purchase. Thats not good for anyone, is it . Calmer, you want people to spend their money. Of course, it makes Good Business sense, you want people to spend their money as easily as possible and it fits the ethos of customer service, its about consta ntly customer service, its about constantly listening when we hear issues with customers, investigating it, solving it, training and reassuring guidelines and i think thats the power with 80,000 colleagues, we get a huge amount of feedback and guidance on problem solving and we can make sure we treat everyone the way they want to be treated. One text says i am disabled, the bugbear is the display stands are too close together, not enough room for a wheelchair. What do you think . I understand it. Purple tuesday this year over 2000 participating organisations across all sectors who have made 3500 commitments. That will range from physical access but it will range from physical access but it will range fro m a ccess physical access but it will range from access through websites which is increasingly a gateway for people into an organisation, particularly in blended some purchases online and some are not. What is the law around physical access because its quite clear, isnt it . There are regulations and there are reasonable adjustments. But i think its not about the law. I think its about common sense. And what purple tuesdayis common sense. And what purple tuesday is about is the economic, the business arguments and we have a case study from whitehorse in dorking who renovated their hotel rooms and they renovated the room for disabled people and they looked at the carpet and they looked at the width of doors and adjustable sinks and stuff and they have seen that, for that room, versus a standard room, they have made an additional £6,900 this year. So it tells you its the right thing to do but its also the economic and business thing to do for businesses. And so, carmel, i dont think we picked up the lanyard before, thats one of the lanyard before, thats one of the tangible things businesses are doing to try to fix the issues. What else, i mean youve obviously said what Marks Spencer is doing is an organisation but in terms of it impacting on the bottom line, that was interesting, the example that mike gave us about the business which has seen an uptake in spending from people with disabilities. Can you monitor Something Like that with your organisation . On some tangible products, we made a range of kids workloads accessible for children with disabilities, that got phenomenal feedback from customers so phenomenal feedback from customers so they are very vocal with us, we get lots of incoming feedback and we can monitor directly to sales of those products so yes, in some cases it can be very tangible, in other cases as part of today s it can be very tangible, in other cases as part of today 5 world of retail, customers are changing, the way they shop is changing and we are determined at m s to change and continually respond and evolve as shopping behaviours change. A lot more Online Shopping is happening, we are thinking and working with the likes of rnib to do an audit of the website to make sure we are thinking about how they can be as accessible as possible. Thank you all. Do let us as possible. Thank you all. Do let us know your experiences. The usual ways of getting in touch. Polands Prime Minister has written to netflix complaining about its nazi death camp documentary the Devil Next Door. Mateusz morawiecki took particular exception to a map shown in the series locating the concentration camps within modern day polands borders. He says not only is the map incorrect it also deceives viewers into thinking poland was responsible for establishing and maintaining these camps and commiting the atrocities inside them effectively rewriting history. Netflix has said it is aware of concerns regarding the documentary. Iam hoping i am hoping to talk to the polish Prime Minister s adviser. Who is in warsaw. And here with me in the studio karen pollock from the Holocaust Educational trust, welcome and thank you for coming in. Tell us about the concerns around what is in the documentary. The concerns are without the documentary is presenting accurate information, i think its important to say it is a documentary, when youre watching a documentary, when youre watching a documentary you are hoping that you are going so whilst there are
