Well go live to the city. And the worlds Biggest Company youve never heard of. Aramco is listing today and we will find out more about that. And well be getting the inside track on the business of babies and the disruptors in the fertility sector helping those facing difficulty in conceiving a child. And are you dating a colleague . Mcanalds boss loses hisjob over it. We want to know is a workplace relationship worth it . Appropriate, or inappropriate . Let us know just use the hashtag bbcworklife. Hello and welcome to worklife. We would love to hear your stories and we will report some of them later. That first, tourism. Its one of the worlds biggest industries, providing valuable income and jobs around the globe. But its facing an uncertain World Economy and increasing pressure to clean up its environment act. These are the big issues facing the industry as the worlds biggest travel event, the world travel market, kicks off in london. The travel and Tourism Sector grew byjust under 4 last year and contributed a record 8. 8 trillion to the Global Economy. Thats the eighth year in a row its outpaced growth in the Global Economy. The sector is expected to continue to expand. Its thought that 1. 4 billion trips will take place this year alone, a figure that could rise to 1. 8 billion by 2030. But tourism is very carbon intensive. A recent study found it contributed about 8 of global Greenhouse Gas emissions. This includes accommodation, dining and transport. With us now is tom jenkins, chief executive of European Tour operators association. Delighted to have you with us. That is the problem, isnt it . It is the Carbon Emissions story. Here you have a massive industry, a growing industry, and it brings that problem with it. The answer is it is very difficult to divorce the Carbon Footprint, it the activities of tourism, from the Wider Society in which it sits. And i think 8 is the latest figure that it is a contested figure. It is still more than significant. I dont question that there is a significant issue and a significant discussion that has got to ta ke significant discussion that has got to take place. What i would plead is that tourism, particularly the sought after as in that my members represent, and i represent a group of people who sell europe as a destination throughout the world, and these people come to london and paris, and they support and sustain the commercial and cultural fabric of the cities. That is the dilemma ina of the cities. That is the dilemma in a sense. It is doing a lot of good, creating jobs and growth, but there is still the problem and a lot of people would probably say are a lot of these holidays too cheap for example . You can fly down to spain oi example . You can fly down to spain or portugal or wherever you want to go for next to nothing. or portugal or wherever you want to go for next to nothing. I dont think the ones my members sell are too cheap, i think they are rightly priced, but i would say that you are right that in some areas it is inexpensive to travel. That is really u p inexpensive to travel. That is really up to governments and administrators to sort through. What iam here administrators to sort through. What i am here ready to insist is that if you suddenly turn round to people and say you are different, you are a tourist today, and ignore all the activity they normally engage throughout their lives, and just look at it as an exceptional example, you are doing the wrong thing. You have got to balance what they are doing normally against what they are doing normally against what they are doing normally against what they are suddenly doing. That is the challenge. How do you balance this continued growth in the industry with any increase in its Carbon Footprint and its effect on the planet . The Tourism Industry is undoubtedly one where it is very difficult for it to operate without a Carbon Footprint. It is very difficult for it to be stra ig htforwa rdly difficult for it to be straightforwardly carbon neutral. There has got to be a conversation about of that and i dont like that for one moment. I dont deny that for one moment. I dont deny that for one moment. And it is a conversation that new, younger travellers want to have and think about. I think younger travellers are thinking about that and older ones as well, it is not simply a youth for mammon that a youth phenomenon. Thank you. We are going to go to delhi shortly to look at what they are experiencing there. Lets take a look at some of the other stories making the news. Mcdonalds has fired its chief executive Steve Easterbrook after he had a relationship with an employee. The us fast food giant said it had been consensual, but mr easterbrook had violated Company Policy and shown poorjudgement. In an email to staff, the british businessman admitted the relationship had been a mistake. Iag, owner of British Airways and iberia, says its agreed to buy spanish carrier air europa for 1. 12 billion. Iag is settings its sights on the market in european travel to latin america. Air europa operates domestic and International Flights to 69 destinations. The Spanish Airline generated revenue of around 2. 3 billion. Consumer goods giant unilever has vowed to stop its brands running adverts on porn sites. It comes after its Mens Grooming range Dollar Shave Club ran a campaign on a controversial pornogrophy site. Unilever says it had not been aware of the campaign. Sally mentioned this earlier. Delhi is the most polluted capital city on the planet and the worst air pollution for years has forced authorities to restrict vehicles on the roads. This is a familiar scheme done all over the place that they are bringing it in in delhi. Many schools have been closed, and people are being urged to stay indoors. Live now to delhi and our correspondent salman ravi. I was talking to you earlier and you we re i was talking to you earlier and you were saying that you are struggling with this yourself. Yes, actually, i am having problems with my respiratory system and a cold because of the weather. Most of the people in delhi are suffering for the last four or five days because they are waking up and finding they ta ke they are waking up and finding they take a they are waking up and finding they takea lairoff, they are waking up and finding they take a lair off, take a blanket off, and hospitals are swelling with cases of respiratory disorders especially among older people and children younger than five. How is it when you step out of the house . You feel a Burning Sensation in your eyes and your throat gets choked. There is a Burning Sensation down your food there is a Burning Sensation down yourfood pipe. It is difficult there is a Burning Sensation down your food pipe. It is difficult to breathe, even with masks. Even in the mask it is difficult to breathe because it can block your nose, cover your nose, and your eyes are vulnerable to the pollution. It is also impacting the skin of people here. This is a situation which is an emergency situation that the government has declared. As you said earlier, because of the rationing system that has been imposed on the traffic, or even number plates can drive on alternative days. Thank you for explaining the radical action they are taking in delhi. They feel they are taking in delhi. They feel they have no choice because of the air pollution they are experiencing at the moment. These are the Financial Markets in asia. Japan closed because of a public holiday. Traders in tokyo had a long weekend andi traders in tokyo had a long weekend and i am not sure when they return, perhaps tomorrow morning, i imagine. But the rest of asia saw strong gains of the back of the record close on wall street on friday. The comments coming in from washington as well that phase one of trade talks between the worlds two biggest economies, the us and china, i looking positive and they are hoping they could sign a deal on phase one this month in november. Expectations are high on markets. Lets look at what is happening in europe at the moment. Many companies coming out with their earnings stories and ryanair shares are up over 5 on the news that in the Second Quarter they saw their profits going up by some 8 . Thank you, sally. Now to the us, where uber faces challenges with a new law in the state of california that may require the ride hailing firm to label its drivers as employees rather than independent contractors. This is a developing story. Vivienne nunis is following the story from new york. Uber listed publicly on the New York Stock Exchange in may that it has been a disappointment for investors. Stocks have dropped roughly are third in value. Overall it is still expected to post a net loss and that is because uber continues to subsidise rights in some cities as it tries to build a Loyal Customer base. Uber has big enough cash reserves to allow it to play the long game. The companys biggest challenge could lie ahead in the state of california. It plans to reclassify ubers drivers as employees and not independent contractors, entitling them to basic rights and benefits. Uber is spending millions fighting the change which it says poses a fundamental threat to its business. Vivienne nunis, part of our american team. And you may have heard of this company because we have talked about them for quite a few weeks. Aramco is listing its shares on the riyadh stock exchange. Our Business Correspondent Katie Prescott reports. Saudi arabia produces a tenth of the worlds oil. Managing that makes this very Unusual Company the most profitable in the world. This flotation has been years in the pipeline. We are the leading company when it comes to energy. We have the highest number of reserves, very well managed reserves. We are one of the. When it comes to conventional production, we are a major player when it comes to gas. In terms of sharing it with the rest of the world and doing all of this analysis and comparison will be a positive outcome for the company and we are looking forward to that. The aim is to diversify the saudi economy away from a dependence on oil, and its changing aramcos image, previously shrouded in mystery. They recently made Financial Results public for the first time. Even divorced women will be able to buy shares. But attacks like these on the companys oil fields show the risks of investing in this volatile region, not to mention in fossil fuels as the world looks to renewables. While we probably havent hit peak oil yet, with the advent of electric cars, we will probably get to a period over the next few decades where oil use will start to come down. The big question now is how much the compa nys worth. Crown Prince Mohammed bin salman has said he believes it could be 2 trillion, double the value of apple. Now he just has to convince investors its worth the risk. Katie prescott, bbc news. That is a must watch when that actually happens, aramco listing a bit of its stock on the stock market in riyadh. Alex is here to take us through the stories in the media. Hes from teneighty magazine. He wanted to talk about this one. Facebook is taking down some political advertising. What are they proposing . Facebook are reacting to some criticism around advertising, particularly this campaign, the mytown campaign, a Huge Campaign from various governments, and it was misrepresented on facebook so they have taken the decision to remove it. It is interesting off the back of twitters announcement last week. They said they would do a blanket ban on political advertising from this month. Globally. Where is facebook is going to try and Police Political advertising somehow. The twitter ceo, jack dorsey, said political adverts have no place on twitter any more. And i think that sends a strong message facebook are thinking how do we go about policing this . Facebook has said it is not a blanket ban, it is case by case, whether things are misrepresented, mislabelled. But that means they go out first and then they assess them, does it . How does that work . Every advert that goes on facebook is reviewed, not manually, but when things get flagged and mislabelled, they get a manual review. Mark zuckerberg, prior to twitters announcement, in the senate and at a Georgetown University speech, said we believe freedom of expression is really important in the run up to elections, and our users can make a decision when it comes to political advertising, because it is clear this is a political advert on facebook, and they try and make users know this is what they are looking at. Absolutely. In the time of so much fake news, facebook is under a lot of scrutiny on this. And we wa nt under a lot of scrutiny on this. And we want to have a look at this climate issue, obviously. We have seen the shocking pictures from delhi, that it is notjust there. It is all over the world. It is the sense of doom and gloom descends when these stories come out. You have something that gives us more hope. Yes, a fun one, something slightly different. The Youtube Campaign going on started by the popular youtuber mystic beast, real namejamie popular youtuber mystic beast, real name jamie donaldson, who popular youtuber mystic beast, real namejamie donaldson, who is raising money to plant 20 Million Trees. Already i understand elon musk has donated 1 million, so that is significant. Ahead of the curve and one of my producers told me her son asked her to donate £1, which is 13. So my colleague had to do a lot of research into mystic beast to find out who he is and he is a big influence on youtube. Mr beast. If you dont know him, your kids probably will because he does challenges, like taking your hands off the car, this is his first foray into social activism. 20 Million Trees everywhere . Every continent except for antarctica. That would make sense. Thank you for that, alex. It is an important story, isnt it . We do get very focused, as with tom jenkins, with the negatives and this combat that. 20 Million Trees coming to the globe in the near future. Still to come trees coming to the globe in the nearfuture. Still to come the business of babies. We will talk to disrupt a facility were talking to a disruptor in the fertility sector who is helping those facing difficulty in conceiving. Christmas advert season has arrived and retailers are ready to show off their festive offerings. I love those adverts this weekend a record £6. 8 billion festive advertising spree kicked off. Jane bloomfield, chief growth officer at kantar, joins us now. Tell us more. What is happening and why it so much money being spent . Good morning. As you say, this weekend kicked off a huge advertising spree. The reason this is so important and actually that it happens every single year as it is a key trading quarterfor all happens every single year as it is a key trading quarter for all of our retailers, all of our brands and companies within the uk, who are looking to capture some of that christmas pound. If you think specifically around the grocery market, we know that last year £30 billion was spent in the run up to christmas in our christmas shopping. Ourfood and drinks, and all the other stuff we buy in the supermarket. Christmas advertising isa supermarket. Christmas advertising is a really important start to that, to help all of the brands and companies here in the uk capture some of that spend. Sally and i have a disagreement already about whether they are a good thing or a bad thing but i suppose the genius about them is they have refocused viewers on the product, in a way. They have become a phenomenon in themselves. They absolutely have and what you will see on things like social media as people begin to talk about them is it amplifying and spreading the effect of the advertising. A lot of the adverts broke at the weekend. We saw argos, asda, mariah carey for walkers crisps, and people talk about them and enjoy them. For a big group of us it is still a bit early. We have done some work and 67 of the uk population say it is still too early. But with one third of people actually having claimed to finish their christmas shopping, the reality is that brands cant wait. That is frightening as well certainly too early for me. Thank you, jane. And we saw mariah carey in action while she was talking, fighting over a bag of crisps. I wonder if she will change her son. All i want for christmas is walkers. We will see youre watching worklife. A reminder of our top story bosses from the world of travel and tourism meet this week in london. Theyre talking about the challenges facing an industry that boosts the Global Economy but damages the planet. Now not so long ago, innovations such as apps and gadgets focused on womens health, was never a major focus for tech industry. Thats all changed now. Femtech, which is short for female technology, is a thriving business. Whether its managing periods or maximising fertility with smart gadgets, the market is rapidly growing and expected to be worth around 50 billion by 2025. Off the back of this boom, a number of companies have sprung up to take advantage of the market. One of them is uk based healthcare firm, concepta. Founded in 2013, the company has come up with a self test device called mylotus that allows women to figure out their most fertile days. With us now is matthew wall, chairman, of concepta. You have brought one in with us and ican you have brought one in with us and i can see the bit that you wee on. Yes a link to your phone and it is about accuracy, visibility and predictability. The lady adds wee to the stick, put it in the unit, and ten minutes later it tells you how much is present in the sample. Let our viewers get a look at it on camera. That is £150. There are already many products out there that you wee want to help you know when is the best time to try and conceive. Why would i spend £150 on that . It is highly accurate and it is Quantitative Technology as opposed to what you see in the shops and on high street, which is a traditional based technology, a dipstick, which is qualitative. This is what you would see in hospital or at based setting and it is highly accurate and it allows you to see exactly the time of the woman is ovulating and the optimum time to conceive. From the point of view of having sex, to have a child, very accurate. This is your business. Biotech and this is the world that you get. How quickly will that look like a primitive tool . Interestingly, i havent brought it with me. It is next door that we have another product coming next year which is more of an apple product, sleek and white. It is high in technology. This is the only product globally that is quantitative. You can use it in a home setting, which is a big difference. It is taking hospital based technology and moving it into the home. You have your first lotus baby arriving soon, i understand. Somebody who use this device to conceive, a woman who was told she could never have children. So for you that is a big success. What evidence have you got to show that this is really as accurate as you say . Many people watching will think that anybody will say their product is the most accurate. They will. We announced the first birth last week. Sonny rocco gordon was born and his mother last year was told she would not find it easy to have children and she did some research and she bought the product. She didnt have a period so she wasnt aware of any timing in terms ofa wasnt aware of any timing in terms of a regular cycle. She tested, so that her hormone levels were surging, she had sex and fell pregnant. Sonny has now been born. That is just one person. Pregnant. Sonny has now been born. That isjust one person. We have many more pregnancies, over 30 in the pipeline at the moment. In the next few weeks we will have a number of different births come in, different case studies, different stories and testimonials for the product. It wont be me who sells the product. It will be the ladies and the success of the product that will sell itself. Femtech is a familiar term now but it was a long time coming. What is the scope for growing what is already a pretty substantial business platform . M growing what is already a pretty substantial business platform . It is surprising. When you think of a ladys menstrual cycle, coming onto many menstruation, the cycle is pretty much invisible and it is a quiet subject kept in a confidential way. When we started working at the product and developing it, we thought this will give more insight to ladies to empower them, whatever stage of life they are in. It has broad application in femtech terms and it will be for the future the way that ladies operate, when they are thinking about the future, children, all those things. A lot of women are professional and they are thinking about families and children later in life so it is really important that they understand their menstrual cycle and fidelity. We have got to leave it there but thank you for coming on. Menstrual cycle a nd you for coming on. Menstrual cycle and fertility. At the top of the show we asked you about dating in the workplace. The chief of mcdonalds has lost his job over it. You said i met my husband at work in 2013 and we got married and we are Life Partners and also partners at work. William said when i worked at work. William said when i worked at target, the big us retailer, it was fine for co workers to date each other. The break ups were very awkward and if you are in Loss Prevention or a manager, it can be a problem. And what about you . prevention or a manager, it can be a problem. And what about you . I met my husband at work. We both worked ata my husband at work. We both worked at a company i was out at the time, bloomberg television, dare i mention that . We got married and it was a success but it was quite tricky to work with your partner, i found. We tried not to bring our rows to the workplace, put it that way. Full transparency, i met my first wife at work but not my second, if that tells you something lots of stories to tell. That is worklife. See you soon. Good morning. We have got quite a bit of rainfall to come over the next few days. Its been very wet over the weekend and certainly through this morning some very wet weather across the east of scotland. So throughout this week further rain and also turning colder, particularly from wednesday onwards. But weve got low pressure driving things today. Its going to gradually move its way to the south east, but keeping things very unsettled with quite a few showers is this weather front here which will provide some rain across the east of scotland. That could lead onto some localised Flooding Issues by the end of today. Across scotland something a bit drier and brighter. Sunny spells in Northern Ireland, england and wales but also the risk of some showers, some of those quite heavy with maybe the odd rumble of thunder down towards the south west. The winds are fairly light for england and wales. Quite breezy conditions for scotland. That wind coming in from the east through today. Maximum temperatures getting up to around about ten or 12 and maybe even 13 celsius. Tonight the rain across the east of scotland will move further southwards, so more focused into north east england. You can see through the night there will be showers continuing for england and wales. It will not be a particularly cold night. Temperatures nothing too dramatic. Down to about six, seven, maybe 8 degrees in belfast. Throughout tuesday another unsettled day. We have this rain across northern parts of england that will drift toward southern and Western Areas into the afternoon. There will be some brighter skies developing in Northern England. Some sunshine too for Northern Ireland and into much of scotland. Some showers coming into northern areas. Turning a bit chilly here. Temperatures eight or 9 degrees. Still in double figures across england and wales. Its through midweek onwards that we will see a small change. Weather fronts disappearing. Largely dry on wednesday apart from a few showers but the air is going to start to come in from the north. This is colder air gradually filtering its way down across many parts of the uk throughout the day. Certainly a chill in the air and we will get some frost as we go through mid week onwards as well. There will be a bit of rain on wednesday, more so towards western parts of scotland, north west england, wales and the south west. It will tend to snow mainly over the Higher Ground of Northern England and across scotland. You will notice temperatures only five or six celsius in northern parts. So just about double figures in london at 10 degrees but for many of us those temperatures will only be in single figures. Youre watching bbc news at nine with me carrie gracie.
