Talk to a kiwi who will rabbit in your face. Who talk to a kiwi who will rabbit in yourface. Who are talk to a kiwi who will rabbit in your face. Who are you supporting . Some of the girls over here were ramping up the english. Youre supporting south africa, wont you . I hold a grudge, so yes, not into england, sorry. Maybe next time we we re really england, sorry. Maybe next time we were really hoping for a second half comeback, but it wasnt really going to happen. Are all of your friends . Yes, we are all kiwis. And you all came here at 8am this morning . About half time. Thank you ever so much. I ask if you are going to go on to celebrate but obviously not . Commiserate. I will probably have some more guinness to get over it. Thank you forjoining me. The reaction here, disappointing, as it will be for thousands of fans, right across the country, who are either in pubs orat across the country, who are either in pubs or at home. I am certainly disappointed, but that is the way it goes. An early drinking, i think that will continue for the rest of the day, thank you very much indeed. Lets go to Harpenden Rugby Club where fans are watching the game. Chi chi izundu is there. People must be really upset, i guess. Im afraid so, there is an airof guess. Im afraid so, there is an air of disappointment here, but lets not forget that four of the players, including captain owen farrell came and trained and honed their skills at this club. Lets pick tojohnny, their skills at this club. Lets pick to johnny, how their skills at this club. Lets pick tojohnny, how did you feel watching that match . At the end, absolutely gutted. We spent all weekend really excited about the build up to watching it at the club and with the screens and everything, but we are really disappointed. You must have some pride, because four of the players came from this club . They did indeed, and we do have pride across the board, but it was just one step too far. Absolutely gutted. Is this your first rugby match . Ordid gutted. Is this your first rugby match . Or did you find watching england . Yes, it is exciting. Are you disappointed . England . Yes, it is exciting. Are you disappointed . Yes, because i thought we played really well but they were a really hard to team. You watch the match and you are here celebrating, how do you feel at the result . We are gutted, we lost some of the big moments, they overpowered us of the big moments, they overpowered usa bit, of the big moments, they overpowered us a bit, didnt let us play our normal game, but a fantastic turnout for the club. We had big expectations and it just didnt work out expectations and it just didnt work our way today, unfortunately. You think we can ever get this close it again in another world cup . Without again in another world cup . Without a doubt. With Carl Sinclair going off early doors, and potentially a forward pass for their try, potentially made a game. We played a fantastic world cup, and i think next time, we will win it. Is it commiserations now . Yes, i think we will be here for a while yet. A lot of guys here play at the rugby club, lovely game and loved watching england play, so i think we may make a day of it. How did you find the match . At the end, i felt a bit absurd that they didnt win, but i felt happy that they still got to the final. Are you proud that you came to watch it at the club where it some of the players train . Yes. And you play rugby . Sort of. I play lots of other sports as well. Fantastic, four members of the angling club, including captain owen farrell, they honed their skills and trained here. It has been an air of disappointment, but there will still bea disappointment, but there will still be a celebration of the fact that england got to the World Cup Final for the First Time Since 2003. Wyre davies is injapan, with fans in tokyo, about 20 miles north of the International Stadium in yokohama. It looks very subdued there. The japanese are listening respectfully to the post match interviews. Quite remarkable scenes as south africa ran away with that much. They are listening to eddie jones ran away with that much. They are listening to eddiejones now, the england coach doing his post match interview. He is a huge figure here injapan, notjust in england, he was the previous coach of the Japanese National rugby team in the last world cup and theres a lot of respect for him here. What these japanese fans are doing is listening very respectfully to what is being said and applauding like japanese fa ns said and applauding like japanese fans do. It has been an amazing world cup, a fitting end to the world cup, a fitting end to the world cup, a surprising result, most people here thought that england we re people here thought that england were going to win, but the way that the South Africans around the england forwards down, they outmuscled their mind in the second half, we saw those two tries for south africa. Most people here were supporting england, but they will be happy that we have had a match fitting of this world cup. Japan has taken to the world cup, their own tea m taken to the world cup, their own team did well, got to the quarterfinals. It has been a fantastic experience. This is an official fan fantastic experience. This is an officialfan zone, fantastic experience. This is an official fan zone, this fantastic experience. This is an officialfan zone, this is not the main stadium, this is an official fan zone that was sold out for this final, so we have had a great game and a good world cup. And with your well shut on, do you think there we re well shut on, do you think there were any divided loyalties amongst other british fans watching this game . With your welsh hat on . think most people wanted a good game of rugby. I think it puts waless very narrow semifinal defeat to south africa in perspective. They only lost by three points, england had been completely outplayed today. Of course, england had their best performance against new zealand, undoubtedly, but i think it shows just how close wales came. Wales we re just how close wales came. Wales were much more of a measure for the South African forwards up front. England were simply outmuscled, they lost kyle sinclair, one of their best players for england, after three minutes. But the South Africans also lost a couple of players to injuries, and i think some of englands other players just didnt turn up, had a poor game, may had a poor game, a lot of the players who shone for england in the semifinal did not turn up today. I think most whales, irish and scottish fans wanted a good game of by. Scottish fans wanted a good game of rugby. And we want Northern Hemisphere rugby to do well as well, and the fact that this is another world cup won by another Southern Hemisphere team is a bitter pill to swallow. But amazing, because it is the first final in asia, and ending at the japanese fans behind you, well this tournament has spread enthusiasm and encouragement to kids to play there . Rugby is very big here, a minority sport, behind baseball and soccer, but rugby has a big tradition in japan, baseball and soccer, but rugby has a big tradition injapan, this is a great rugby stadium, i have seen several youngsters play rugby over the last couple of weeks. Next year, the last couple of weeks. Next year, the olympics are injapan and rugby sevensis the olympics are injapan and rugby sevens is a big part of that, for both men and women, and the people who run royal trophy are keen to push different forms of the game in different parts of the world. And here in asia, the Hong Kong Sevens are an annual fixture that has been going every year, and japan is wanting to spread rugby throughout asia. Also in parts of africa, kenya is very good at rugby sevens so by is very good at rugby sevens so rugby has had a very good world cup despite some hiccups with whether. From here on, we had to develop the game in asia as well. Thank you for joining us. Lets bring some other news today. The government has called a halt to shale gas extraction, known as fracking, in england amid fears about earthquakes. The decision marks a significant change in policy. Heres our Business Correspondent katie prescott. Fracking is the extraction of gas from rocks using High Pressure water and chemicals. Its supporters say it is a free flowing and home grown source of energy that would cut our gas imports and our carbon emissions. But it has proved to be highly controversial. They had to stop it following an earthquake in lancashire in august, and now the oil and Gas Authority says it is not safe and Companies Must halt their activity, but with one important caveat unless and until further evidence is provided that it can be carried out safely. Theres no doubt that extracting more natural gas in the United Kingdom would be very attractive. But weve always been clear, we can only do that if it can be done safely. And on the advice from the oil and Gas Authority, were no longer convinced that thats the case. But we will follow the science. So, in future, should the ability to be certain about seismic events, and so on, we will look at it again. Frackings industry body says. Environmental campaigners are relieved by the news, but this isnt the first time that fracking has been suspended. It was stopped after earthquakes in 2011, and the door is still ajar for activity to begin again in the future. Earlier, i spoke to the green partys co leaderjonathan bartley. He gave a cuatious welcome to the governments announcement. This is a moratorium, it is very welcome, after ten years of hard campaigning and a massive tribute to all those people who have been out in all weathers protesting outside. What we need to see is an absolute commitment from the government never to bring fracking back. We need to think ina to bring fracking back. We need to think in a new way about gas and heating. We need to see a Green New Deal which decarbonise our heat supply. Lets get those boilers out of homes, replace it with ground source heat pumps, lets have a massive investment in cutting gas demand, that is what wbbl sought our problems, not waiting to see whether fracking will be replaced. This is a huge change youre talking about, but without fracking, we are looking at importing huge levels of supplies and given the global situation, isnt that a danger . The real danger isnt that a danger . The real danger is the fracking fantasy that the government has pursued for ten yea rs. Government has pursued for ten years. While there is an inertia around dealing with all the boilers that are in our homes. We need to deal with the demand. We need to super insulate homes, cut the gas demand, but start the programme of stripping out gas boilers, make it possible to get that a low cost clea n possible to get that a low Cost Clean Energy into every house can be millions of homes in the uk that need to have that energy. We have only got until 2030, the governments target is 2050 to deal with the climate emergency, that is way too long. We have to get on 90 by2030, way too long. We have to get on 90 by 2030, so we should start the action right now, not in five ten yea rs. Action right now, not in five ten years. And if there is longterm changes are more difficult to drive through, what are your alternative means to delivering clean energy . We have to have that Green New Deal, the massive investment in renewables, the new Economics Foundation estimates that we can get over six times our annual electricity demand just from offshore renewables. When you see tidal lagoons on the west coast, six of them could provide as much power as hinckley. Hinckley hasnt will not come online for years, that is far too long to wait. That is rocking us into a terrible deal for yea rs rocking us into a terrible deal for years to come. We have to have that Renewable Energy revolution, but also cut the gas demand. How much do you think this is about head of election, the conservative party positioning themselves . All the other parties have said is a ban is what should happen, this is a temporary pause. There has to be a ban, you have to be realistic about the timing, a lot of those, a small number of fracking sites tend to be in marginal constituencies, places like preston new road. The tories are very right, it is externally unpopular. In terms of Public Opinion over the last ten years is the more people learn about fracking, the less they like it. The government is announcing this at an opportune moment going into a general election, but we need to see unequivocal and clear commitment by the government to ban fracking now and forever. Back to our top story and england have lost the rugby World Cup Final to south africa by 12 points to 32. Owainjones is the former editor of rugby World Magazine hejoins us from hertfordshire. Your reaction watching that, england just not able to clinch the title. I think it is a bit of a surprise. Given england have destroyed new zealand last weekend, i think there was lots of confidence in the england camp, but they were outplayed and out thought today 32 i2 they were outplayed and out thought today 32 12 loss is a fairly convincing from south africa. It is a young england side, i think they will be an even better side in 2023. But massive disappointment. What would you put it down to . Nerves, strategy, picking too soon with the win last week . Well, Kyle Sinckler left the field after three minutes, he is their tight head and a good scrummager, so from he is their tight head and a good scrummager, so from that minute on, dan cale came on and struggled in the scrum. They couldnt get territory or build their position on the field because they get giving away penalties and bullard kicked extremely well. It was at the scrum that they really lost that initiative and it took recorders of a match to get that back. Pollard kicked really well. By the end of it, the game was running away from them. In terms of the standard of them. In terms of the standard of the game, was it a great match to watch . No, i wouldnt the game, was it a great match to watch . No, iwouldnt say it the game, was it a great match to watch . No, i wouldnt say it was. The first try didnt come for 60 minutes by the springboks are hugely muscular, it was a brick wall of defence, they just kept muscular, it was a brick wall of defence, theyjust kept bashing away at england, picking up the penalties, as they have done most of the tournament. And england just couldnt get their power game or attacking game going. It will be real frustration for eddie jones, attacking game going. It will be real frustration for eddiejones, he was essentially outplayed by erasmus, the South African coach, in every facet today. And fantastic four south africa fans who might be watching this morning, theirfirst black captain, an historic moment in that sense. It really is, for kolisi, who was brought up in the townships as a young child, some said it was even an even bigger moment than Nelson Mandela shaking hands with pienaar in 1975. A huge moments of four south africa a huge moment for south africa, they will be going absolutely wild. But much to solvency in england. Looking back at the tournament, it has had lots of attention and excitement because of englands progress, do you think that will feed into what happens now in terms of enthusiasm and backing for the sport here . Yes, i think and backing for the sport here . Yes, ithinka and backing for the sport here . Yes, i think a lot of people will talk about the legacy, certainly, no one has ever seen new zealand outplayed like england did in his semifinal. They had players like tom currie, those who are 2a and under who will have sparked the imaginations of lots of young kids around the country, it needs to step outside its middle class parameters and lots of the players in england are from state schools, it does have this fairly partial middle class image, so fairly partial middle class image, so you have to hope that there are a few who can build upon that, reaching a final is still an achievement, they havent done that for 12 years, so they should try to look for positives, that is what they will have to grasp onto. Thank you forjoining us. England suffered an early blow when prop Kyle Sinckler was stretchered off after just three minutes with a suspected head injury. Actually, i think he walked off. He credits much of his success to a teacher who helped him set up a school team and realise his ambition. And that teacher, anastasia long joins us now from salford. Anastacia, you must be so disappointed . Yes, im really gutted for him, he will be so disappointed that it ended that way. I think it is disappointing when it happens at any stage during a tournament, but to have happened during the biggest gaming is life, and so early, he will be so gutted that he wasnt able to give more to the team. For those who didnt see it, what happened . It those who didnt see it, what happened . It was those who didnt see it, what happened . It was so quick, wasnt it . Yes, after about two minutes, he collided with miro toady, while they we re collided with miro toady, while they were both trying to tackle a South African player, and caught him in the wrong place on the head. He clashed with itoje. You could tell initially that he had been knocked out and he was to play another no further part in the game, it was really heart wrenching to watch. I hope he is ok. That way about concussion is a realfear about injuries in rugby, a worry for pa rents, injuries in rugby, a worry for parents, standing watching your Children Play it. How much of that isa Children Play it. How much of that is a factor in trying to work out a strategy for the players and the captaincy are . To be honest, i think the laws of the game address that in terms of tackle height and managing the contact area and things like that. I dont think the players think about it any more than they do any other injury. It is obviously a topical issue to be discussed by pundits and spectators, but i think in terms of tactical perspective, the teams just think about how they can beat the game and how they can outwit their opponents, and i think south africa did that better than england today and england will be disappointed with some of the areas errors that they made, but there was a huge pressure from south africa in the set piece and in open play where they were punished for any mistakes and sometimes, mistakes compound other mistakes and i think they will feel it was not their best performance, but they will be disappointed because i think they know that they can play so much better than that stopper but in the same way that new zealand probably feel like they did after the game last week, that came from pressure from south africa, so fair play to their mind on the day, i think they we re their mind on the day, i think they were to the deserving winners. Do you think Kyle Sinckler will be back . Is another International Final possible for him . Absolutely, there area number possible for him . Absolutely, there are a number in that team who are still young enough to go and play in another world cup and hopefully, they will get to another World Cup Final, there is so much more to come from this team and they work eddie jones has done with them has been fantastic. And the upbringing that those players have heard, coming through a very different regime of academy and england under 16 and under 18 preparation, with those coaches, that has created a new generation of player that we are going to see for many years to come. Im really excited for what they still have to show. When you saw kyle when he was younger, did you see this incredible potential . Yes, i think buy from a character perspective and it was clear that he was going to go places. He had such a burning desire to get to where he wa nted a burning desire to get to where he wanted to go and he sacrificed a lot to get there. He fully deserves his place in the tournament and he has been a standout player. Over the next four years, he will show that he is the best tight head prop in the world. From an early age, he sacrificed a lot, he was always determined i never had to be pushed by anybody. He just needed the support and guidance to navigate through that journey, support and guidance to navigate through thatjourney, as any other young player does. But there was a lwa ys young player does. But there was always that commitment and self motivation to do that. I am thrilled for him that he got to show that up until today. Lets for him that he got to show that up untiltoday. Lets hope he is for him that he got to show that up until today. Lets hope he is all right and comes back for more. Thank you forjoining us. Sport and for a full round up, from the bbc sport centre, heresjohn watson. England losing their rugby World Cup Final to south africa 12 32 in yokohama. Two tries in the sceond half seasling what proved a comfortable win after six Handre Pollard penalties had laid the foundation. England unable to emulate the achievments of that world cup winning side of 2003. Andy swiss is there. We have been seeing some pictures they are, england are bitterly disappointed, of course, Kyle Sinckler going off early in the first half, but south africa produced an externally dominant performance and outclassed england today. That is right. It really was a tactical masterclass as far as south africa were concerned. A lot of the attention will understandably go on englands failings, particularly following their victory over new zealand. England were frankly unrecognisable from the team that beat new zealand last weekend. But the credit should also go to south africa. They outmuscled england, they outfought them, they are out thought then, yes, england did have bad luck losing Kyle Sinckler in the second minute of the match to concussion, and that seem to set the scrum, in being dominated in the scrum, conceding numerous penalties. And with a man like pollard in a South African team, that will cost you, and his boot gave south africa a 12 6 lead at half time. England were dropping the ball, throwing loose passes, they didnt seem to be connected in the way that they were last weekend. That really came back to haunt them after the break, they neverfound any fluency and then there was too late tries from south africa merely confirmed their supremacy. While england will be bitterly disappointed after going into this match with such high hopes, they we re match with such high hopes, they were the favourites to win this. You have to give credit to south africa, because as i say, it was a tactical masterclass and they executed it to perfection. Unable to elect the achievement of 2003, where does this leave the team, eddiejones and his players . Well, thats a very good question. This will hurt for them. Particularly, as the performance they showed against using and was one of the finest england performances set such a High Standard for them. Did not set something to do with it . We have seen something to do with it . We have seenin something to do with it . We have seen in the six nations, against scotla nd seen in the six nations, against scotland for example, that england do have these matches where everything seems to go out of the window. There is a sense that once Kyle Sinckler went off, there was a long delay, that seemed to upset englands with them, so i think they will be looking at that. There are still plenty of Young Players in this team, the likes of tom currie and Sam Underhill who made such a big impact in this tournament. There is hope that they can take credit, when the dust has settled, they can look back on some superb performances, particularly at the quarterfinal and semifinal against australia and new zealand. But united just wasnt to be, they have had a bitterly disappointing defeat. Absolutely, and take nothing away from south africa. Thank you for joining us. Great britains rugby league side have lost the first of two tests against new zealand this morning. 12 8 they went down in auckland, it was only 2 2 at half time but the hosts took control after the break. Jamayne isaako with the try here after a brilliant off load, before the kiwis powered over again. Great britain replied through daryl clark but it wasnt enough to avoid their second consecutive defeat of the tour. You can catch highlights on bbc one at 1. 15. Lewis hamilton looks set to win his sixth world title this weekend, finishing fastest in second practice ahead of tomorrows american grand prix. He was three tenths of a second faster than ferraris charles leclerc. He only has to finish in eighth or better in sundays race to secure the drivers championship. Qualifyings later today. We will keep you up to date with that one here at the bbc sport centre. That is all from me, and next up on bbc news, it is the weather. We have 80 berry of low pressure wringing wet and windy weather. We have a number of weather warnings in place for the wind, and heavy rain in place, and disruption and temperature possible. All down to this area of low pressure sliding its way eastwards today. The strongest wind on the northern and southern flank, and it is southern pa rt southern flank, and it is southern part of england and south wales that we are most concerned about through this morning for the strength that they went. Gusts up to 70 80 mph across the south west, and also towards hampshire and the isle of wight. 50 60 mild per hour widely inland. We could see gusts of 50 mph across lincolnshire for a time today. Also some heavy rain, across wales and South West England, that will slowly slide its way eastwards throughout the afternoon. Today north of this, drier and brighter conditions across northern england, southern scotland and northern ireland, but to the far north scotland, some wet weather, potentially as much as 80 millimetres of rain across the high ground of northern scotland and gusts of 50 60 mph. Check into escaping with a dry day. Temperature is not much more than what we saw this morning, 10 13 the afternoon high. Through this evening and overnight, the wind will slowly lose its strength, we will keep some outbreaks of rain, spiralling around this area of low pressure, tending to become more showery, and in between, drier and clearer interludes. Where we see clear skies, temperatures falling to 4 5. Where we have cloud and showers, holding up between 6 8. We still have low pressure with us tomorrow, not as intense, so the wind will be lighter, we will have lost the nastiness. Still windy across South West England for a time, some showers here, show is developing across northern ireland, eastern scotla nd across northern ireland, eastern scotland and northern england. Looking like a drier day across the midlands, central southern and eastern england, some bright or sunny spells, and the wind will not be nearly as strong. In the afternoon sunshine, 13 1lidc. Where we have the showers, more like 1012dc. Low we have the showers, more like 10 12dc. Low pressure is still with us 10 12dc. Low pressure is still with us in the week ahead, so it will stay unsettled particularly on monday. As the rain clears on tuesday, we will see things turning a bit colder again.
