On. I really feel attached to the tea m on. I really feel attached to the team and its an honour doing this role, as the coach of australia. It is not given to a lot of people. And i take it with a lot of pride and a lot of honour. But, like i said, ive made my call and i wanted to show that im prepared to put myself on the line. To achieve what i believe the team good. We didnt do that and ive got to stand by what i said. That england win against australia set up a mouthwetering semi final against new zealand next weekend. The reigning champions thrashed ireland. But speaking this morning, england head coach eddiejones thinks they are beatable. The all blacks are a great side. They have got a good leadership team, they are well coached. If you give them the sort of ball they want, they are hard to defend against. Like any team they have got weaknesses. Are they beatable . Every team is beatable. Nobody has a 100 record in test rugby. Nobody wins every grand slam 6 0, 6 0. Every team has weaknesses. Things have happened in the past but because we are a small non league side nobody takes any notice of us. No matter how many times we have complained or moaned about it, nothing has happened. What made me pull my Football Team off was the look on the faces of some of my players. They were disturbed, they we re players. They were disturbed, they were frightened. And i took that decision off my own back. We are just going to have to live with that decision whether it was the right thing to do or the wrong thing to do. I will have an update on that in the next hour. Now it is time for the papers. Hello and welcome to our sunday morning paper review. With me are Anne Ashworth, personal finance commentator, and James Rampton, features writer for the independent. Lets take a look at todays front pages, and all of them lead on todays events in parliament. The mail on sunday accuses parliament of being a house of fools, saying that instead of the nation starting to heal after brexit, mps are delaying leaving the european union. The independent online focuses on the peoples vote march that took place outside parliament. It reports that a million attended, on the day that made the Prime Minister listen. The sunday telegraph concentrates on the Prime Ministers refusal to sign the letter to the eu requesting an extension, whilst asking eu leaders to stick to the october the 31st deadline. The sunday express asks the question, why wont they let us leave . The paper says there was outrage as parliament voted to obstruct the Prime Ministers brexit deal. The Observer Says that the Prime Minister could face fresh action in the courts after calling on eu leaders to reject a brexit extension. And the sunday times leads with the news that borisjohnson has sent three letter to the eu explaining the uks position, and his own personal position. So, lets press on. Lets kick off with the sunday times. Boris fights brexit wreckers. Three defiant letters. A busy day for what we used to call the gpo the taxi driver on the way in today said, youve got a lot to talk about today. He is quite right. It is mouse a tongue saying we are cursed to live in interesting times. Chairman mao. I read a nice piece in the guardian saying that Boris Johnson had nice piece in the guardian saying that borisjohnson had the emotional age of a nine and three quarters year olds, refusing to sign a letter. To me, that seems very immature. I know he is making a political point. But he is saying, i know better than parliament. And this subheading saying, ignore parliament. I just think this subheading saying, ignore parliament. Ijust think it this subheading saying, ignore parliament. I just think it seems very childish. There will also possibly be legal action. The scottish courts are swinging into action tomorrow. Joanna cherry will be taking this back. Does it affect the legal impact of a letter if you dont assign it come 7 the legal impact of a letter if you dont assign it come . Under a narrow definition of the hilary benn act you dont need to sign the letter, you need tojust send it. I am sure that will be examined by loads of expensive lawyers in the next few weeks. They are the ones who will benefit this will be a money making thing for them. It is also how donald tusk and everybody else at the eu will view this. They will take some days to discuss this letter that he has sent. Indeed there is a rather good phrase in the sunday times saying this was a day of high drama, farce and acrimony, whose goings on would be unfathomable to most people. Including people who voted remain but now would rather think, please let usjust leave. Indeed Boris Johnson is trying to weapon eyes that sentiment, which i think is spreading among a great many people. Letsjust get on spreading among a great many people. Lets just get on with it. Spreading among a great many people. Letsjust get on with it. He is making it parliament against himself. He is forthe making it parliament against himself. He is for the people. This is parliament that is wrecking these plans that you voted for. The sunday telegraph, a similar story. Johnson refuses to sign brexit dalei letter. This is not from me, says the Prime Minister, with a photocopy of the request. Most of us send e mails these days. Even those who dont send letters know that you have to sign them. That is what i believe hilary benn. Hilary benn himself said last night it was churlish not to sign it. The machiavelli of downing street, dominic cummings, is all over this. His sense that whatever he can do to aid with the establishment, he doesnt, to me, seem establishment, he doesnt, to me, seem to care about what Parliament Says or even what the electorate says. It is all about winning to him. And says. It is all about winning to him. And ifind that rather sinister. And if it is him, the way that he has set out this trick, if you like, of sending three letters to brussels, i think it doesnt smack of fair play. It doesnt seem very british to me. Without wanting to sound like a terrible tory backbencher when Boris Johnson spoke to donald tusk, he said, this is parliaments letter, not my letter. That is going to be the strategy over the next few days, to say, look at of these elite people who want to of the nation. He has sent the letter. At one stage people we re sent the letter. At one stage people were questioning whether he would send the letter. But he has. Yes, he has done. Very strangely, the way in this morning i met sir Oliver Letwin, as one does. Yes, he was in make up. I said to him, being a remainer, and not trusting the erg not to have read this, not to wreck this and try to make a brexit with no deal on the 31st by accident, i said to him, i think you have done a good job and you should be very pleased with yourself. He said, it doesnt seem that way. He has got a massive amount of criticism. However, ido has got a massive amount of criticism. However, i do think he and the people who supported this bill, the majority of mps, write to be wary of this government which i dont think has proved itself to be trustworthy. I think that is why he has done it. Even those who actually support the Boris Johnson agreement say that they voted for it as an insurance policy. They see it as a way to ensure that all is above board to prevent us leaving without ano board to prevent us leaving without a no deal. But i think its interesting how Oliver Letwin is no differently perceived. At his time of life did he ever imagined he would become a hero of the left . Weve come to him in a minute because there is some of him. The observers are speculating about whether this could end in the courts. We have a Big Supreme Court hearing already. Do you think this is going back to the courts . |j hearing already. Do you think this is going back to the courts . I would most imagine so. The normal way things proceed has totally gone out of the window. It seems as if we are ina kind of the window. It seems as if we are in a kind of strange thing where people lodge to the courts, they may appeal to the people, and its very, very clear that the Supreme Court in scotland will start to look at this. And of course yesterday, all the drama in parliament, and then outside huge numbers of people, peoples vote protesters gathering outside parliament. Incredibly colourful scenes. Yes, captured in this front page picture. I do think it underlines, and lots of people will say its only london, well, a Million People, they were interviewing a lot of people, people from all over the country who had come to london to make their point. And i absolutely regret the abuse that happened and i know we are going to talk about that. But a Million People coming to make their point. It may be too late now that johnson has pulled the rabbit out of the hat and at least got the outline ofa the hat and at least got the outline of a deal with brussels. But they are making the point that they feel very, very passionately about europe. Its such a visceral subject. It bypasses the intellect. It appeals to the emotion. People feel very, very strongly. Almost increasingly strongly as the years go by . Yes, the strife has increased as the years have gone by. People have dug even more deeply into their positions. It is a visceral emotional issue. The march yesterday underscored that. And how we set about coping with these divisions, trying to heal these divisions, between families, communities, people in offices, is a very interesting theme. Because whatever brexit brings we will need to be unified. Part of that division is the language. The language is being questioned. Pro Brexit Papers like the mail on sunday calling parliament of the house of fools. With some of the worst pictures they could possibly have selected even their mothers could not love them. Mps subjected us to more agonising delays, it says. It is the idea that this is the elite are thwarting the will of the people, pursuing their own personal agendas against the national interest. This is the paper, or the daily version of this paper, or the daily version of this paper, that used against the tories, the peoples enemy. We talk about the peoples enemy. We talk about the inflammatory language that is used, but some newspapers are more guilty of that than any one else. We we re guilty of that than any one else. We were talking before about the fact that i am not on twitter. Part of the reason for that is i applaud the vitriol. People dont say i disagree, they threaten you with death. That seems to be the first step. We have got to a point in our public debate that if you disagree with me you must be my enemy. Yes, must kill you. Rather than agree to disagree. I wonder if the mail on sunday should really be criticising people who abused conservative mps as they left the house of commons yesterday. If it itself adopts the very much very much the same strategy. Inside we have got hate filled mob targeting Jacob Rees Moggs 12 year old son. Filled mob targeting jacob reesmoggs12yearold son. Yes, Jacob Rees Mogg is someone i disagree with on every single thing he has done, including lying on a self entitled, arrogant manner, as i just did in the green room |j self entitled, arrogant manner, as i just did in the green room i said wa ke just did in the green room i said wake up, wake up that indicates the level of this agreement. However, i abhor the abuse, particularly in front of his child. I dont think you further your cause by chanting abuse at him in the street in front ofa abuse at him in the street in front of a 12 year old. That is absolutely wrong and it indicates the level of vitriol that has entered the well of Public Discourse and that i really lament. What i thought was quite interesting and i wonder what Boris Johnson thinks of it, there were some pockets, great effigies, carried in the pro peoples vote march yesterday. And one of them shows demonic comings manipulating a glove puppet of Boris Johnson shows demonic comings manipulating a glove puppet of borisjohnson in a romper suit. I dont think that is how borisjohnson would romper suit. I dont think that is how Boris Johnson would like to see himself. Which is why it is so good you mentioned Oliver Letwin. They have got a piece about him in the mail on sunday. A lot of the papers suggesting he was helped with the phrasing of his crucial amendment yesterday by lord pannick, a key figure in the Supreme Court hearings. What is the problem with that . Borisjohnson hearings. What is the problem with that . Boris johnson has hearings. What is the problem with that . Borisjohnson has admitted he has been helped by geoffrey cox, his legal adviser. Why cant people take legal adviser. Why cant people take legal advice . Lord pannick is in the house of lords. It is not like somebody who is a complete maverick. And i think if he is able to help mr letwin frame a bill that avoids the catastrophe of a no deal brexit, good on him, i say. People who do it tend to back the Prime Minister, voted for it let wink because they saw it as getting things organised. We are in this great morass were all kinds of policy and strategy is being ignored. I quite like parliamentarians to be detail oriented people. What is absolutely true as well is that so much important legislation has been com pletely important legislation has been completely swept away. I have got a close relative who may or may not be my daughter, who works for a charity lobbying the Domestic Violence bill. And they are livid, the people supporting that bill, that it has been sidelined. Jess phillips mp has been sidelined. Jess phillips mp has been very supportive and lots of other mps have been saying, we cannot let this fall by the wayside because women and children are being beaten up by horrible men. It has been completely forgotten about in the madness of brexit. Been completely forgotten about in the madness of brexitlj been completely forgotten about in the madness of brexit. I think it is quite interesting that a lot of the papers didnt assume that people would want to read brexit right from the front onwards. This has been moved into ten, 11. It is acknowledging that people find it infuriating. I wonder if its a reason for people to switch off from the news. Not ours, i hope . Not us. Please dont switch off we have to watch. Yesterday i watch that most of the day. I think people are pretty gripped. Whichever side you are on, it is an extraordinary political drama. In the courts, hung parliament. Political science courses will be framed around events of the past three years. In ten yea rs we of the past three years. In ten years we will be talking about brexit and how we came to be in the grip of this insanity. They will be courses formulated about that because it is an epic, pivotal time in our history. Brexit studies. First class honours. Also, we are in the position in these papers were none of them could confidently predict what could even happen tomorrow in the house of commons because it is not quite clear whetherjohnsons vote will be returned, whether it would be delayed, what is going to happen to the withdrawal agreement. But which is this crucial piece of legislation. Even john virgo doesnt know what is going to happen tomorrow. He has to think about it. John tomorrow. He has to think about it. John bercow. Tomorrow. He has to think about it. John bercow. Lets move away from brexit studies. Harry and megan like harry and meghan won six weeks off. Maybe brexit is driving them mad. They are looking for a six week breakfrom mad. They are looking for a six week break from royal duties. Mad. They are looking for a six week break from royal dutieslj mad. They are looking for a six week break from royal duties. I know you andl break from royal duties. I know you and i will always talking about harry and meghan but it is something that really interests me. This is a quite disturbing story in the sunday times ahead of a documentary on the couple. It shows them as bruised and battered by the treatment of that they have received. It seems to have been the assumption that because you are an actress, which meghan was before she joined the royal family, that you can take anything that is hurled at you. And it seems apparently not. This documentary, it seems as if it is going to portray harry as a deeply troubled man. He finds his life in england very, very troubling and intrusive. And it is really rather worrying that the couple just want to take time out and maybe think about moving somewhere else. He says every time he has a camera clicked, it reminds him of what happened to his mother. Yes, it is childhood trauma, possible issues with mental health. And i think that a lot of people will read that story and feel that maybe people have been unfair. Some people might say, why do they need six weeks off . Well, because they are incredibly stressed. I sympathise with them as human beings, even though i am not a fan of the royal family. Harry would love to live in africa, where he would be away from the british family. Echoes of the terrible things that happened to his mother in paris will be resonating in his head. I think you didnt choose that job. He didnt say, i think i will apply to be a prince. That is the job that he was landed with by birth. I wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy. It is an appalling situation. Meghans dog walkers are being bribed by paparazzi to spill secrets. It is insane and really terrible that these young couple has been put in this position. In this social media age what it ever be possible to seek hotter privacy because everybody has got a camera phone, havent they . Even if they wished to have a quiet life in africa, it even america, they would always be somebody who sees an advantage in selling a picture or posting a comment. You would have to be in quite a remote part of africa. 0k, be in quite a remote part of africa. Ok, lets end with the rugby. Were you watching . I was watching. I went around to some friends and had a bacon sandwich. They were drinking whiskey but i wasnt because i am very sensible. It was early in the day. They go, we are winning i must say, in this time when we are so riven with division and strife and hatred, this is an unalloyed positive story. If you are english. Yes, apologies to the rest of the country. If you are a rugby fan, it was a brilliant performance, wonderful attacking rugby, brilliant defence. These are young men, many different backgrounds. There is peace on Kyle Sinclair who comes from a poor estate in battersea. They are great role models. Young children will want to be like that. They will want to be heroes. What better way to lead your life than doing sport and staying healthy . Fantastic. Should i get into watching this now . Dont watch next week because we will be slaughtered by new zealand are you suggesting i would bring bad luck to the team . No, ijust think would bring bad luck to the team . No, i just think you would bring bad luck to the team . No, ijust think you might be disappointed if you think it is going to be a continuing england triumph. Our only hope is if they pull a hamstring during the haka. That is the only way we can beat them they will still probably win with just five people on the pitch we will see what happens. Thank you so we will see what happens. Thank you so much for reviewing our sunday papers. That is it. Dont forget you can see the front pages of the papers online on the bbc news website. Thank you Anne Ashworth and James Rampton goodbye. On the whole the weather is looking pretty good across most of the uk today. Sunshine on offer. The chance ofa today. Sunshine on offer. The chance of a shower. Most likely in northern and eastern scotland and also the north east of england. That is because we are still fairly close to the low pressure which has been bringing the unsettled weather for the last few days. This big gap in the last few days. This big gap in the cloud you can see here, that is pa rt the cloud you can see here, that is part of the High Pressure that is building in all the way from the azores. That is going to settle things down later on today into tomorrow. Not everywhere. A fly in the ointment. Clouds gathering in the ointment. Clouds gathering in the near continent heading to the south east later. A fine afternoon for many. Temperatures around i to 12 degrees. Pretty nippy. Especially after the chilly start to the day. Tonight the shower is eventually clear away from the north. We have got this complication, this fly on the ointment of a weather front trying to squeeze in. We have a front sneaking in and clipping south east. That means anywhere from brighton, london, to ipswich and london, you might need your umbrellas in the morning. The chances are it will stay quite down through the morning and quite possibly into the early afternoon. It is the far south eastern corner of the country that could have a damn start to the day. The vast majority of the uk tomorrow in for a dry start and a fine afternoon. Temperatures nothing spectacular. A high of around about 12 degrees for most. May single figures in the north. Maybe touching the mid teens in cornwall, devon and london as well. Tuesday, High Pressure still over the uk. Low pressure to the north, which is quite often the case. That means thicker cloud, more ofa case. That means thicker cloud, more of a breeze for our friends in the western and northern isles. South of that the weather is looking fine. Sunshine in newcastle, hull, birmingham. Plymouth looking sony as well. Highs getting up to 13 degrees. The outlook for the next few days looking pretty steady on the weather front. Towards the end of the week perhaps things turning a little more unsettled. This is bbc news, im ben brown.
