Others, she is an snp mp, were basically trying to do an action to force borisjohnson to basically trying to do an action to force Boris Johnson to abide by the benn act, which is supposed to block 110 benn act, which is supposed to block no deal. The Court Documents submitted by the government said if there is no deal by october 19, the Prime Minister will request an extension stop now, that seemed to fly in the face of everything he set up fly in the face of everything he set up until now. We thought it was a massive u turn. Then downing street, as the express says here, came out and said, no, we are still going to leave on october 31. And both of those things are obviously contradictory. You cant on the one hand so you are going to abide by the law, which is the benn act, while also saying deal or no deal, we will definitely leave on october 31, because the benn act is designed to stop that from happening. So something has to give. But the incredible hulk has a solution, and that might be that he comes and cobbles together a deal, takes it to the eu, and viktor orban of hungary vetoes it, and if he does, then the whole thing is wiped out and he has to start all over again, the hulk returns as he said he would. What an image that is. And this will be all done by halloween. Which is what is appropriate, actually. Ithink done by halloween. Which is what is appropriate, actually. I think it is fantastic. I think it is going to end up in the courts, basically. On that point, should the courts, politics and brexit, should there be that marriage . There might be a problem in that it might not be judicial problem in that it might not be judicial judiciable. No court wants to get involved in politics, separation of powers and all that, they dont want to. The only reason they dont want to. The only reason they piled into this was that he obviously violated the bill of rights, it was clear and open a and his attorney general stupidly didnt tell him he was doing that. That was pretty cut and dry. Clear and open as day. In the normal run of things, the courts, as you say, stay well out of this. But when it comes to, when it is in doubt whether the government, whether the Prime Minister is going to abide by the law, it is remarkable even to say that, clearly there is no other recourse other than for the courts to get involved. But the hulk will break through all of this. Bonnie well, that is what he said he was. Lets turn to the front of the guardian. Prince harry declares war on tabloids over hacking claims. Three tabloids now, but the couple are taking on. Yes, the mail on sunday, so Meghan Markle is suing the mail on sunday for publishing a letter she sent her father, and now prince harry is going after the owners of the son and the owners of the daily mirrorfor owners of the son and the owners of the daily mirror for phone owners of the son and the owners of the daily mirrorfor phone hacking. Itju5t 5how5 a remarkable turn of events. Itju5t shows the depth, i think, of anger that prince harry feel5 toward5 shows the depth, i think, of anger that prince harry feel5 towards the pre55 right now, and he is determined to bring them down one way or another. He put out a statement after Meghan Markle, after it came out that she was suing the mail on sunday, he put out a statement really going for it, saying he had to stand by and watch the media going after his wife, and he is obviously incredibly angry and this is the latest example of that. Thinking back in history, the windsors have always had one member of the royal family who has basically said, to hell with the whole thing. His great great uncle david basically said to hell with it. Harry has actually said once, william had said he didnt want to be the king. I dont know if he actually said it, but he said it out loud, people said, how awful. There was another royal Family Member back for edward who basically said, im walking out of this. So maybe this isa strain walking out of this. So maybe this is a strain in the windsors where they are basically saying, yeah, i got born, but that is not my problem. And you know, it is very interesting to, harry couldnt say in the army, which he loved. He couldnt stay there, of course he couldnt stay there, of course he couldnt because he was endangering the lives of everybody around him. So he couldnt do that. And i think they are naming their little boy archie, which is a fantastic name, but prince rg is interesting. I think they are basically saying, you know, we are not playing the game. They dont have to. Harry will not be the king, Meghan Markle will not be the king, Meghan Markle will not be queen consort, it is not going to happen, andl be queen consort, it is not going to happen, and i guess he is young enough but also old enough to make a decision about himself, his wife, who is american, and we are very litigious as a nation, she will go to court, she is not scared to do that. She will go there. And she is doing it also for her little boy and i think she wants to show that this is not, were not going down this road, were going down this road. When you say, you know, we dont need them, we dont need the press, the media. Crosstalk. I didnt say that. What they are saying is, we are not playing the game. What we are not playing the game. What we are going to do, because we are actually secondary royals, what we are going to do is, we are definitely going to work for the firm, were going to push the brand and make it big, we are carving out africa for ourselves and maybe after trump s gone we will go over to america. But thats it, everybody. Leave us alone and let our let us have our lives. There is always that tension between the royal split was a desire for privacy, but at the same time their obligation, really, given the extent that they are publicly funded, to actually give of themselves. And she is a woman of colour and he is very conscious of that. Because when they were going out he lashed out at all the racist stuff that was on twitter and instagram. He is not letting up on that. His mother in law is african american. Harry is not letting this go. Ok, the daily mail. Shaming of the yard. Kevin . There area shaming of the yard. Kevin . There are a lot of really big stories around today. This was the report which came out into operation midland, which was the metropolitan polices investigation into allegations of a vip paedophile sex ring at westminster. These allegations were made by a guy called carl beech, who has subsequently been exposed as a fantasist subsequently been exposed as a fa ntasist and is subsequently been exposed as a fantasist and is currently serving an18 yearjail fantasist and is currently serving an 18 yearjail term for perverting the course of justice. An 18 yearjail term for perverting the course ofjustice. The metropolitan Police Obviously came under a lot of criticism for how credulous they were when it came to these allegations and the way they went after those who are alleged to have carried out abuse, who were com pletely have carried out abuse, who were completely innocent. Most of them, not all of them, elderly former politicians, who were not really in a fit state to have to put up with this type of questioning and allegations, and this of course has come out and it has been incredibly damning. Bonnie, i am going to move us damning. Bonnie, i am going to move us along, but i want to take you to a story that is developing in your home turf, your stomping ground, the united states. This is the front of the huffington post. Mitt romney criticises trump over biden tax. Let me just say quickly, so much is happening to us here we are not paying attention to the united states. The president is in meltdown. He does a thing now, he doesnt hold press conferences anymore, he stands in front of his helicopter, the journalists called a chopper talk. He just spouts, literally spouts, he curses, he does everything. What is happening now, it sounds like there is a palace revolt where they are bringing in all these pieces of paper and data, and this shows that every time trump gets on the phone to a world leader, like some kind of mafia boss, and says to china, yeah, by the way, can you check out joe says to china, yeah, by the way, can you check outjoe biden, you know, because we think he is crooked, and his son hunter. Would you check it out . He said it to the young president of the ukraine, he was a comedian, who used to play the president of the ukraine, and is now the president of the ukraine, and america has got a president who used to bea america has got a president who used to be a reality tv star who is now the president of the united states. These two people get together, trump says to this guy, or allegedly says to this guy, yeah, we have all these missiles on things we want to give you, though, could you check out biden for us . And this guy doesnt know what he is talking about. So these are all impeachable offences, trump, andl these are all impeachable offences, trump, and i predict, he is going to be impeached by thanksgiving. This story, even figures in the republican party, mitt romney, obviously, who went up against barack obama and lost in 2012, he has tweeted on the china allegations that bonnie mentioned, when the only american citizen President Trump singles out for investigation is his little opponent it strains credulity to suggest it is anything other than political. What suburban women and traditional republicans, they dont like the way the smells and they are getting ready to turn. Diane carroll, sad news today, she has died at the age of 8a. Very quickly, some that up . I grew up looking at Diane Carroll, she was Audrey Hepburns rival, beautifully dressed, she was a great singer and she had a Television Show and if you are a little girl looking at Diane Carroll and you were black, that is who you wanted to be, she was amazing. Diahann carroll. She was amazing. Diahann carroll. She was amazing. She played a nurse, she was always beautiful and elegant. She was a great singer. And she won a tony award for her role, not as a maid, but has a parisian model dressed in his apology, we just loved her. I loved her in dynasty. Well, it has been great fun. Plus im going into battle, finding out what it was like for the crew of an ancient athenian warship. We are heading to athens to uncover greece 5 ancient treasures, and the more modern ones. For more than two millennia, the temple of the parthenon has towered over what has become the bustling capital city of greece. Nestled at the bottom of its slopes, the modernist Acropolis Museum houses most of the ancient a rtefa cts museum houses most of the ancient artefacts found in the area of stop and this year it celebrates its 10th anniversary. This museum replaced an older building that had become just too small to the sheer number of antiquity is found on the hill. It is ten times the size. It has a unique collection and as you can see from the queue it is popular. Almost 50 Million People are passed through the doors of the museum since it was opened a decade ago. And mark the anniversary, a whole new section just been open to the public. Underneath the building. So what are we looking at here . We are looking at part of the entrance of the city of athens which is at the foot of the app acropolis hill. It is a residential neighbourhood warehouses of everyday people, workshops, public and private buildings. The Acropolis Museum was built on top of this fast excavation site, a challenge for any good architect but a source of great prize pride for the archaeologist to spend decades here uncovering old houses. That tiled floor, what is that . The central courtyard of the house of a middle class house. Quite a big one, 360 square metres. An open air courtyard. While archaeologists here have put down their shovels and brushes for good, there are enough forgotten treasures around greece to keep them in work. Greece is like heaven for history geeks like me. If you know where you are looking there are you know where you are looking there a re a rtefa cts you know where you are looking there are artefacts around every corner full of i am driving to one of the most exciting ongoing excavation sites, about 1. 5 hours away from athens. Last year, greek archaeologist announced to the world they had located a lost city which, until then, had only existed on the pages of ancient texts. It was believed to have been built by prisoners of the trojan war and this month the excavation resumed here. It is considered as one of the 15 most important excavations worldwide. This is a city coming out of mythology. Edifice was supposedly raised here. Agamemnon brought trojan prisoners from troy and established them here. So we are now excavating this ancient city, its roads houses and cemeteries and slowly by slowly it comes to life. Tourists and scholars will soon be able to explore the excavation site through 3d animation. In the meantime, there are still some very practical works to do. Less than 5 of the city has been uncovered so far full digging of the city has been uncovered so farfulldigging up the of the city has been uncovered so farfull digging up the past of the city has been uncovered so far full digging up the past should keep archaeologists here busy for many decades to come. It isjust the beginning. It will continue. Without me, but beginning. It will continue. Without me, but i will always be here from somewhere looking at it. Just casting an eye over and making sure everybody is doing the right thing. To end the show this week i have come a short distance outside of the city centre to the coast. This place is what has become known as the athens riviera. There are cool cafe ts, athens riviera. There are cool cafe 5, ritzy hotels and plenty of luxury yacht. More close to the modern yachts, a different sort of ship is ready to go to sea. It is the only life side replica in the world of the athenian battleships that dominated the naval wars from the fifth century bc until early christian times. This amazing looking galley belongs to the greek navy and every year groups are very lucky people get to go on board and row like the ancient and senior instead athenians did. This year, lam one instead athenians did. This year, i am one of the lucky ones so i should get ready. I think it will be ha rd should get ready. I think it will be hard work. It took 20 years of passionate research to work out a design is no remains of the wooden boats could be found. It was constructed here in 1987. The important thing for the rowers of the boat is that they were free citizens. It was an honour to be rolling. And the problem is we have so many people for such a small boat. They help the boat to move. |j think it sounds like a lot of fun and a lot of hard work. Could you show me how to do it . Wow. Look at this. This is amazing. This is the novel way to go down. The ship carries two small sales butjust like in ancient times, most of the propulsion comes from the 170 oarsmen staggered over three levels under the deck. It is quite tight in here. Like i told you. Sit here. Pop your feet there. So you sit here. What techniques do you use . Like this. So lifted up out of the water. One, too. I think im going to have very good ab muscles after this. And i will give the orders. Absolutely. Thank you very much. My fellow rowers a re thank you very much. My fellow rowers are starting to arrive so i have picked a plum spot in the middle of the action. Ready for ramming speed. Reaching speeds of about nine knots, 17 kilometres an hour, this boat was considered quick for its time. And its manoeuvrability warm some decisive victories for athens at sea. The bronze ram served as the main weapon to puncture the holes of enemy sit to puncture the whole ofan enemy sit to puncture the whole of an enemy ship and sink it. Every now and then we get a break. And here we go again. Looking around it is almost possible to imagine what this would have been like for the people whom originally rode these boats. To be in battle, three layers of people sweating and trying to ram another boat in the open sea. It is unimaginable, given how pleasant and lovely this is today. Fortunately, this journey how pleasant and lovely this is today. Fortunately, thisjourney is now used for less ferocious purposes. For now, it is going back to the port for some pampering. It will winter there before being spruced up for a new set of visitors in 2020. A lot of hard work but a lot of fun as well. That is all we have time forfrom lot of fun as well. That is all we have time for from the travel show this week. Coming up next week. Mike is underwater in tangiers to see if sinking old planes can really provide a safe haven for local marine life. And he meets the 96 year old woman who spent three decades fighting to save country 5 endangered loggerhead turtles. Some saidi endangered loggerhead turtles. Some said i was mad. Join us then if you can and in the meantime dont forget to sign up to a social media feed so you can check up what we are a two on the road and share your travel stories with us and the rest of the world.
