Plus im going into battle, finding out what it was like for the crew of an ancient athenian warship. We are heading to athens to uncover greece 5 ancient treasures, and the more modern ones. For more than two millennia, the temple of the parthenon has towered over what has become the bustling capital city of greece. Nestled at the bottom of its slopes, the modernist Acropolis Museum houses most of the ancient a rtefa cts museum houses most of the ancient artefacts found in the area of stop and this year it celebrates its 10th anniversary. This museum replaced an older building that had become just too small to the sheer number of antiquity is found on the hill. It is ten times the size. It has a unique collection and as you can see from the queue it is popular. Almost 50 Million People are passed through the doors of the museum since it was opened a decade ago. And mark the anniversary, a whole new section just been open to the public. Underneath the building. So what are we looking at here . We are looking at part of the entrance of the city of athens which is at the foot of the app acropolis hill. It is a residential neighbourhood warehouses of everyday people, workshops, public and private buildings. The Acropolis Museum was built on top of this fast excavation site, a challenge for any good architect but a source of great prize pride for the archaeologist to spend decades here uncovering old houses. It was believed to have been built by prisoners of the trojan war and this month the excavation resumed here. It is considered as one of the 15 most important excavations worldwide. This is a city coming out of mythology. Edifice was supposedly raised here. Agamemnon brought trojan prisoners from troy and established them here. So we are now excavating this ancient city, its roads houses and cemeteries and slowly by slowly it comes to life. Tourists and scholars will soon be able to explore the excavation site through 3d animation. In the meantime, there are still some very practical works to do.
