Our top story the house of commons speaker, john bercow, has warned that he will use all of his powers to stop the Prime Minister borisjohnson from ignoring the law which blocks a no deal brexit. Mr bercow called it astonishing that anyone has even entertained the notion of forcing through a brexit without the approval of mps. 0ur Political Correspondent, Jessica Parker, is in westminster. Jessica, what powers are at mr bercows disposal . He is leaving at the end of october, or if there is a general election, before, yet hes determined to make waves still, isnt he . He is. Its worth noting the speaker is the highest authority in the house of commons butjohn bercow has been something of a marmite character over the last few years. For some hes someone thats stood up for backbenchers and for parliament againstan backbenchers and for parliament against an over mighty executive. For others, hes damaged the impartiality of the speaker with some of the decisions hes made but in terms of the executive and the government, he might have sent a view shivers down their spine this morning after the comments he made last night. This as speculation is rife Boris Johnson last night. This as speculation is rife borisjohnson could somehow try to get around the recent law passed by mps designed to block a no deal brexit and potentially delay brexit beyond 0ctober brexit and potentially delay brexit beyond october the 31st. Mr bercow said last night not obeying the law must surely be a nonstarter period and he made quite an interesting comparison to hammer home his point. 0ne comparison to hammer home his point. One should no more refuse to request an extension of article 50 because of what one might regard as the noble end of departing from the eu as soon as noble end of departing from the eu as soon as possible when one could possibly excuse robbing a bank on the basis the cash stolen would be donated to a charitable cause immediately afterwards. And the only form of brexit we will have, whenever that might be, will bea have, whenever that might be, will be a brexit that the house of commons has explicitly endorsed. Now, mr bercow also said that parliament would cut off the possibility of anyone trying to break the law and do so forcefully, and he opened the door to additional procedural creativity for such a purpose. Now, john bercow, as i was mentioning before, has delivered a view parliamentary bombshells in his time. Looks like he might deliver a few more before he departs. Jessica, thanks very much forte because through that. Thanks very much forte us through that. This is the first time they have let the cameras in. The intention is to show how safety conscious they have now become. Under the recall, owners can get a replacement, a modification or a refund. Of 500,000 problem dryers to find, 65,000 have been located sincejuly. The people that you see working on this floor are working flat out to make sure we have availability of product, and the people taking the calls are working saturdays to make it convenient for you, and when the consumer calls us, to know that within seven days they will get that unit installed. More than 1. 5 million owners like denise in kent have already got theirs modified, so dont qualify for the terms of the recall, and hers has overheated since the repair. That makes me very angry, very angry. I had the modification done when it was suggested. Not as humid as slightly fresher day, you will notice it when you step out first but overhead this afternoon. It will feel pleasant indeed. A finance to the day and as i go through tonight, most places bright and clear but amounts of cloud across scotland and ireland and ran into northern scotland by the end of the night in particular. The south, single figures, some spots around 23 or on saturday morning. 0n saturday, england and wales continue with the fine weather and lots of sunshine around. When the british sailor hannah mills competed at the 2016 Olympic Games in rio dejaneiro, she was shocked by the amount of plastic litter she saw floating in the ocean. Now, alongside other athletes, shes launched a campaign which aims to eradicate Single Use Plastics in sport. Hannah joins us now to tell us more. Morning. We managed not to mention the fact you have an olympic gold medal i called you a row earlier on rower. Medal i called you a row earlier on rower. In the pursuit of your 0lympic on rower. In the pursuit of your olympic gold medal, you have seen a lot of oceans, presumably, during the time and you have drawn conclusions . In other people have spoken about this too. Tell us more. There is so much going on in plastics in the community, trying to tackle Single Use Plastics, particularly growing up sailing, as a kid particularly growing up sailing, as akidi particularly growing up sailing, as a kid i didnt really notice it, it was now and then the plastic would get stuck under the boat and stop me dad and get stuck under the boat and stop me dad and i would go 0k, get stuck under the boat and stop me dad and i would go ok, i will lift that off and carry on. I wouldnt have thought it would stop a boat . Plastic bags wood. My boat is quite small so it is not too hard to stop. Plastic bags. And then through my sailing career it got more and more and more and the last lytic cycle leading up to rio, everywhere we went, the marinas, beaches, they we re went, the marinas, beaches, they were covered. It is heartbreaking. It ignited this passion in me to wa nt to it ignited this passion in me to want to do something about it. It is like nothing else that can unite people for something positive. Iwanted else that can unite people for something positive. I wanted to harness that power and put it into one of the biggest environmental challenges of today, single use rustic pollution. So at sporting events, are you talking to the athletes themselves . Big plastic pledge is about everyone, the entire community uniting together to tackle single use plastic and you do it by individually coming to the big plastic pledge website, signing up to your individualised pledge, and it is about individuals taking positive action up when they go to sporting events, take their own water bottle and when the athletes do, they take their own bottle, i dont want my sporting kit to come in single use plastic. Clothing is a huge sort of topic and sports clothing is a big one. We will be looking into, as this project progresses, right now i am notan this project progresses, right now i am not an expert in the clothing industry, but i know there is some fantastic work going on out there. You have just come fantastic work going on out there. You havejust come back fantastic work going on out there. You have just come back from japan and you have been doing practice sailing ahead of the next 0lympics of course. How is that . Really well. The japanese are so welcoming and so excited about the olympics next year. Tokyo 2020, i cannot believe it is under a year away we won the World Championships this summer so preparation is going well, that was in the olympic venue, it is all looking really good. For the negative side, it is heartbreaking to be out there because everywhere you go injapan, single use plastic is everywhere, they wrap things individually about three times before you can even get out the supermarket and initially i was disappointed and liked what can we even do . But no, this is a huge opportunity to hopefully spread the awareness that is building in the uk and other places around the world and other places around the world and take it tojapan and say and other places around the world and take it to japan and say what can we do . Come back and see us before you head off for the olympics themselves. Thank you very much. Thanks, guys. But heres the thing arent the australians tired too . And as day became evening, jos buttler started hitting. Not only did buttler end the day like this, hell be back in the morning to resume. England 271 8 and if theres more of this, well, keep the ashes going until december. Joe wilson, bbc news, at the oval. 0n on to golf then. Huge day. The solheim cup gets underway at gleneagles in around 90 minutes, where europes women look to prevent the us from winning the trophy for the third time in a row. The americans are favourites but the europeans say they have several advantages this weekend, one of which will be captain Catriona Matthew. She is an incredible captain, has been incredible so far and, you know, as players, we are all going to do the best for ourselves, and especially for her, being at home is very special, to be in scotland. So, yeah, well do our best but were very confident. Weve got one of the best teams had in a long time. You know what is exciting as well . Europe needs to win and weve been defeated the last two times, the us have a real rookie team and georgia hall played in herfirst have a real rookie team and georgia hall played in her first the last time and she is so strong at the moment, on fire. Our team is so strong at the moment. If its going to happen any time, it could be this year. And you have been very busy . I have been chatting to the team. |j could say rookie team, no fear. Lots of inexperience. With golf, you need it up there. The usa cant get it for a third year in a row, surely not and not in scotland, absolutely not and not in scotland, absolutely not we will be touching on that later in the programme with naga. But some big news in tennis former world number one Kim Clijsters has announced she will return to tennis next year at the age of 36. It is, of course, friday 13th and there is plenty to fear for four Super League Clubs going into the final day of the regular season. Those four clubs wakefield, hull kr, huddersfield and london are all level on points at the bottom with only one game left to play. One of them will be relegated later tonight. Theres no use saving anything for the week afterwards. Theres no coming to training and putting things right next week. Its give it your all and give it your best. Thats all i can ask of anybody, and all i can ask of anybody that plays in my team or works for the club. Give it your all and give it your best, and hopefully thatll be good enough. At the other end of the table, reigning champions wigan cyclings tour of britain continues with the penultimate stage, a 116 mile route around warwickshire later today. Dutchman mathieu van der poel has retaken the lead of the tour afterfinishing sixth on the individual time trial around pershore yesterday. There were three more golds for Great Britain at the para swimming World Championships in london. Amongst them, alice tai made it four golds in four days with victory in the s8 400m freestyle. Gb now have a total of 30 medals and are second in the medal table with three days of competition to go. Susan hosang is 100 years old and yesterday teed off against former masters champion patrick reed as part of beat the pro during the first round of the klm open in amsterdam. She also played alongside matt wallace and Thomas Pieters in the annual competition on the 13th hole. Doesnt she look brilliant . Wow 100 years old, fantastic it gives me hope my golf will improve. Youve got plenty of time youve seen it you never master it, you just have to know that. Unless you are one of the solheim cup players in team europe, not that im biased. I am so biased it begins. In about an hour. Cant wait charlie, are you going to get into it this year . will give it a well, because on top of everything else, it has amazing scenery. As you know first hand . went up to gleneagles when the Team Announcement was made. They are so excited and absolutely pumped to win. Takea excited and absolutely pumped to win. Take a look. Scotland, the home of golf. Breathtaking scenery, but this tranquil setting is about to erupt into a chorus of the battlefield. 0ver into a chorus of the battlefield. Over the next few days, old rivalries will be resurrected. The competition is on. Solheim cup, one of the biggest womens sporting events in the world. Its happening. Its here in glorious scotland. The excitement is building for the spectators, and, of course, the players. Take me through this moment stop your first shot at your first solheim cup as a player on the thirsty. Ball in hand, its going into the ground. What are you thinking . Taking probably a couple of deep breaths, checking if i have a pulse. All ages, all experiences. Tell me what youre going to need from the captains. Do you like tough love or do you need a cuddle . Id say tough love more than anything. Golf, its a brutal game. Its the female equivalent to the mens ryder cup and team europe will be fighting for its first win since 2013. A bitter rivalry against the us team, thats an understatement. Its fast, its thats an understatement. Its fast, its aggressive, its interesting, its quick. Its just pure competition, pure competitiveness between the us and europe. We always wa nt to between the us and europe. We always want to beat the us, or try to, so its obviously one of the biggest showcases of womens sport. Where is the team going to be weakest . Were not going to be weak in anything, dont you worry. Not going to be wea k dont you worry. Not going to be weak in anything. That is why she is on the team. Vice and Dame Laura Davies is the most successful solheim cup player ever. Your going to be doing thisjourney from the hotel down to the thirsty ready to the team off. What are you going to be thinking . When, get the points, get the points on the board early. Its all about winning. Its going to be a great week. Its High Pressure for the girls, but they enjoy it, this is what they live for this is what they do and this is as tough as it will ever be for them, especially the rookies. 2000 people screaming, youve got to hit the fairway for your partner. Go on there. Ok, straight down there . Straight down the middle but you need to hit it 280 yards, though, naga. Nailed it thats not bad, is it . Later today team captain Catriona Matthew will lead a dozen of europes best golfers into battle against the usa, but who will be victorious . You know, its a dream come true captaining solheim cup in scotland. To hold this trophy up on sunday after hopefully winning would be amazing. Probably the pinnacle of my career if i can do that. Womens sport in general has had a great year, so couldnt be more exciting. As a captain you have a great responsibility for this, can i touch it . Its quite heavy. You could imagine how much more that will glisten with loads of champagne, french champagne obviously, for team europe. Looks stunning. So beautiful. Ithink obviously, for team europe. Looks stunning. So beautiful. I think the Weather Forecast is ok for this weekend. Matt knows, and matt is a big fan as well. It looks all right, ive been looking because im going later. Good morning. It will be a little bit mixed but there are strong winds on the way so that may make things a bit challenging but good morning, we are in North East Wales, in flint, look at the sunrise, on the banks of the river dee. Becoming more environmentally aware these days and with sites like this you want to keep them in pristine condition and in doing so we have a project kicking off today, dee day project. Here to tell us more is alan and mike. Ellen. Morning. Tell us a little bit more about the dee day project. The big dee day is a cross border cross county partnership and we tackle the whole of the plastics issue on the estuary. It has been happening since 2007 and we kicked off with David Bellamy and since then, we have thousands and thousands of bags of rubbish out of the river, working with the public and private sectors, non government organisations, and we have had thousands of schoolkids out litter picking, three schools out over the course of the next week so we launched today and it is on for the next week. You know, it is literally cross border cooperation between england and wales and we will be working on the border with cheshire to do some footpath opening and we have Tree Planting as well and we have Tree Planting as well and since the bigger plastics were removed from the estuary over the course of the last 10 12 years, we are course of the last 10 12 years, we a re really course of the last 10 12 years, we are really focusing on the small the plastics so we send people out and they are after anything that we can find from the beach right the way up following the estuary, all the way up following the estuary, all the way up hopefully to snowden. Quickly, how do people get involved helen . Various ways, tomorrow we have got public litter picks, one here at flint foreshore at ten am and we have another at other sites as well. Basically, if they want to get involved in training of the local environment at any point during the year, we would be grateful if they got in touch because we are keen to see people taking action to take ca re of see people taking action to take care of the local environment. Perfect, good luck with all of it and a lovely environment like this needs protection. Wonderful start, i think weatherwise, perfect conditions. Light wind today, right. For the rest of you, it will also be the case. A fresh start, High Pressure in charge, that is keeping things dry and sunny through today but you will notice a cold front across southern counties, it is swept away the humidity but it means across the coastal counties and Channel Islands, this is where we do have a rather grey conditions here, damp and drizzly weather for one or two to take us through this morning. Becoming confined to the Channel Islands in the afternoon and through the day show is on the north and west but a bit of a breeze here blowing smartly through, sunny conditions following on quickly after. Most will say dry and sunny and not assume it once the sun is on your back, it will feel pleasantly warm. Dixon 21 the general highs this afternoon. We finish on a funny note and we go to the evening dry and clear as well. 0vernight, a bit more cloud spreading into parts of scotla nd more cloud spreading into parts of scotland and Northern Ireland. The cloud will bring some splashes of rain, particularly across the far north and north west of scotland. Further south the skies remain clear, a fresh night across england and wales with cams into single figures, not quite as cool in those cloudy conditions across the north. England and wales, find a, lots of blue skies and sunshine and feeling warmer than today and went lighter the further south you are, scotland and ireland wendy, Gale Force Winds for some, and they could touch 50 miles an hour. Persistent rains in the highlands and islands, some splashes of rain further now north in scotland and Northern Ireland but staying dry and temperatures up to 25 degrees potentially in the south east corner, in the teens further north. Into sunday, the weather front in scotla nd into sunday, the weather front in scotland will push further southwards, if you have plans southern scotland, Northern England and parts of north wales, and i on the forecast. Were not sure whether rain band will live at either side of it, dry and sunny weather and clearest towards the south and east after a misty and foggy start feeling warm, images into their 20s, mid teens in the north of scotland, but overall summary in here and there but not a bad forecast for the weekend at all. Not a bad view at all either. Where is yourfriend, murphy . He has gone off to look after the next guests. Thank you we always like to embrace stories of success , we always like to embrace stories of success, particularly when they have come through a kind of alternative path. So someone who dropped out of school at 15 with no qualifications, probably the teachers thought ugh so now he is worth quite a bit. Impressive guest you have there, nina London Fashion week gets under way today, so nina is talking to the boss of one of the industrys Fastest Growing firms. London fashion week might feel miles away from what you wear and spend, but fashion is a major industry for the uk. Its worth £32 billion to our economy every year, and when you take in design, retail, manufacturing, it is responsible for almost 900,000 jobs. The way we shop is changing. The boom in online has hit the high street hard but great news forfast fashion retailers. Adam frisby runs one of the Fastest Growing online brands called in the style. Thank you forjoining us. I know how busy you are. This has been a meteoric rise. You started in your bedroom. What have you done that is so different to others because it is a saturated market. I do not know if i know the answer, truthfully. I had a bit of an idea at the time when i was thinking up social media celebrity and fashion and everyone was doing it and i had celebrity and fashion and everyone was doing itand i had an celebrity and fashion and everyone was doing it and i had an idea of what could work with some hard work and that is probably what i put it down to, the fact it was hard work andi down to, the fact it was hard work and i was just working really hard. You have harnessed instagram for example. How does that work, the people who do not understand the medium . It is interesting, i was people who do not understand the medium . It is interesting, iwas not on instagram and trying to explain it to an older generation, it is so different nowadays and we are reliant on it and teaming up with a celebrity or someone massive on instagram can change a business. You are basically giving your product, they are wearing it and the followers will then buy your product . Must fashion though, it is fast as we say so in a space of a week you may be designing, turning something around, distributing it, it sounds like enormous pressure because you do not have the fashion houses that anna wintour would have fast fashion. Houses that anna wintour would have fast fashion. Starting on my own as well organically, everything is massive. If we take something, take a gamble, we need it to pay off. You cannot make many mistakes. We definitely cannot. People will find it hard to stay within budget, on trend, but also at the moment is the ethical as well, it is a massive issue. How can they do that . I am educating myself a lot over the past six years on being ethical and environmentally friendly and one issue that i am massively proud of his we have teamed up with the Marine Conservation society is they are pollution and plastic from the ocean to help save sea life et cetera and we are now giving 1p from every item we sell which is millions per year to help kind of clear up beaches and chores et cetera so we have run that and proud that we are starting to take steps with that as that as well as using things like recycled fabrics and making sure that we are using things to teach people to wear garments more often in different ways. Have you noticed consumers being more conscious of that . Yes, and me as well, i think it is important for everyone, whether you are an individual or Business Owner that you take it seriously, it is something we need to be taking care of. It is London Fashion week and what we see on the catwalk is obscure and expensive and it is hard for the rest of us, so how does it trickle down to what we wear every day . Do not copy anything but we are taking trends, if we see like a really great borrower or a puppy like a really great borrower or a puppy shoulder we will take that quite quickly and move it into an item that we think is affordable and can work for people a bow or a puffy. So i could see something and then put it on this store tomorrow. Adam is taking part in a bbc three documentary. It is called breaking fashion. Ifly on documentary. It is called breaking fashion. Good morning. Welcome to breakfast with Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt. 0ur headlines today not obeying the law must surely be a non starter a blunt warning to borisjohnson from outgoing Speaker John Bercow over the Prime Ministers pursuit of a no deal. The only form of brexit which we will have, whenever that might be, will be a brexit that the house of commons has explicitly endorsed. Abbas bjorn is on the sofa talking about getting swedens greatest pop export back together. Plus, im in flint in North East Wales at the start of an environmental project that engages the community and local businesses. A lovely start to the day and it is for many of us you. Will it last for the weekend . Ill have the full forecast for you on breakfast. Its friday september the 13th. So, Jessica Parker, is in westminster. These are bold w bercow, so, these are bold words from mr bercow, who doesnt hold back in the circumstances. What does it actually mean . Yes, youre right. Bold words for a mean . Yes, youre right. Bold words fora man mean . Yes, youre right. Bold words for a man who is known for making bold statements in the house of commons and what it means is its a clear signal when parliament returns, its been suspended, prorogued, at the moment, we could see interesting outcomes and rulings from the Speakerjohn Bercow if theres parliamentary battles about theres parliamentary battles about the future of brexit. 0f theres parliamentary battles about the future of brexit. Of course theres parliamentary battles about the future of brexit. 0f coursejohn bercow, something of a marmite figure in the house of commons. For some, he is someone who has damaged the idea of impartiality in the speaker, too often siding with backbench groups and those who dont wa nt backbench groups and those who dont want brexit, and for others he is parliaments champion, helping backbenchers stand up to an over mighty executive but there could be rain shiver down the spine of the executive this morning after the lecture he delivered last night. Its all because of speculation that was trying to find a loophole around the law recently passed by a cross party the law recently passed by a Cross Party Group of mps designed to block a no deal brexit and potentially see an extension to article 50, a delay to brexit. John bercow saying last night and not obeying the law must surely be a nonsta rter obeying the law must surely be a nonstarter period, and he made an interesting comparison to hammer home his point. One should no more refuse to request an extension of article 50 because of what one might regard as the noble end of departing from the eu as soon as possible than one could possibly excuse robbing a bank on the basis the cash stolen would be donated to a charitable cause immediately afterwards. And the only form of brexit we will have, whenever that might be, will be a brexit that the house of commons has explicitly endorsed. Now, of course, john bercow, as i mentioned, has delivered a view parliamentary bombshells in his time. Looks like we could expect a fume few more before his due to step down at the end of october a few. Domestic violence killings across the uk are at their highest level for five years, according to police force figures obtained by the bbc. Thats despite a series of measures taken by the government to reduce Domestic Abuse. Our Home Affairs Correspondent, tom symonds, reports. Rodrigo giraldo killed his wife, margory villegas, then put her body in the boot of this car before burying her in a shallow grave. Officer how long were you out trying to look for her . He lied to the police, claimed he tried to find her, and, as in so many Domestic Violence cases, what he did has shattered his family. There is the fact that we no longer have the greatest ally weve ever known, which is my mum, and really why i feel blessed to be here to be able to say these things because of her, her sacrifices, everything she ever did for us. As women, it is 100 our responsibility, i think, to support and uplift each other, to champion each other as we aim to succeed, to not set each other up for failure but instead to really be there rallying around each other and say, i want to help you, and you may not ever meet that person, but youll know when you put on blazer, or that shirt, or you carry that tote, or put on those trousers or that dress, that some other woman on the other side of this country is wearing that piece because you made that purchase. Matt will have the weather for us, hes at the river dee in north wales talking about an effort to clear up the pollution and the plastic pollution. We will talk to him a bit later on. Lets go back to one of our main stories this morning. Domestic violence. And the increase in people whove died at the hands of a partner or close relative over the last five years, but behind every statistic is a human story, as the loved ones of Cherylee Shennan know all too well. Cherylee was killed by her partner in 2014. Were joined now by her sister, chiyvonne, and family solicitor sarah ricca in our london newsroom. Good morning chiyvonne. I can only imagine how nervous you must be on national, but also the pain you are in at the moment because weve still been hearing about what happened to your sister. Do you want to tell us about her . What was she like . Just a really strong character. Its absolutely fine. I tell you what were going to do, we are going to get you a glass of water. Everyone will know how difficult it is, its very brave of you to be here. We will have a chat with sarah first. Just take a moment. Sara, give us a background to what happened in this situation. In so many ways, its the worst of all combinations, Domestic Abuse that ended in the worst possible way. Thats right. Whats particularly serious about this case is that the perpetrator had actually killed before. Hed been released, he killed his previous partner, and he killed his previous partner, and he was on a life licence, which is what happens if you are convicted of a previous killing. So there were very extensive powers to recall him to prison if there was any further offending, and were talking about low levels of offending that should trigger recall. And yet this offender was allowed to enter into a relationship, to become abusive and, despite the fact that the abuse was reported to the authorities, he wasnt recalled to prison and cherylee paid with her life. Explain, for those people not familiar with the story, the reality is, how much did cherylee know, if anything, about the past of her partner at the time of her death . She did know about the past. That he was required to tell her, as part of the conditions of his licence, and so he told her. He made it very clear two to an to told the authorities there is that he would rather kill again then go back to prison. So he was toeing the line to some extent. He told cherylee, and around a couple of weeks before cherylee was killed, she revealed to her sister both his past and the fa ct her sister both his past and the fact he was abusing her. Chiyvonne, its interesting to hear about what cherylee new. What do you know of what she knew and what was happening to her . I mean, i believe that she didnt know everything until. The kochie was treated as an employer rather than a partner. So, for me, it was five or six months of whats come out of the inquest that she knew. It was noted from probation. They did meet her face to face and she was shocked, so clearly hed not told her. You are finding out things in the inquest that she didnt know . Yeah, just yeah. I understand there was a phone conversation with the Probation Service with her, can you tell us about that . I dont know about that but what i do know from the inquest, or what i feel i know, is the phone call she got was simply, has he told you about his past . And she was on the other end of the phone saying yes he has an he was behind her apparently at knife point. Thats what ive learned. From what you now know, and its been a horrible learning curve or you and the family, hasnt it, was that us she was under for a long the family, hasnt it, was that us she was underfor a long period of time prior to what eventually happened. Yeah. What have you learned . Like i say, that he did have, i have learned that he threatened her, with family members that he said he had access to guns and shotguns and that he would, like, kill before going back to prison. What do you think she did not tell you or any other members of the family or friends what was going on . Because she had a daughter at home. And she was also working really closely with her best friend. I can only imagine how hard this has been for you and your family. There will be a lot of people watching this who might think how might the situation have changed . Think how might the situation have changed . Think how might the situation have changed . With the evidence laid out, with people who did not do enough, the Probation Service and others, what do you see now that could have been different . others, what do you see now that could have been different . I see processes that should have been followed and i see professionals that have been put in place in position and, you know, because professionals are bound by confidentiality but they have to act on that and it wasnt a long, in my opinion, wasnt acted on. He managed professionals rather than them managing him. So he was able to subvert the process . Just by cunning. Pulling the wool over their eyes and a lot of disguised compliance, when he has turned up at every opportunity that the probation had, he was able tojust pull the wool over. Everybodys eyes. Just listening to what chiyvonne is saying and talking about the Probation Service, a spokesperson has said since cherlyees tragic murder there has been a complete reorganisation of the service and a significant number of operational changes and improvements have been made. The problem is that when you hear stories like this, tragic, horrible stories like this, there is still holes, arent they, in the system . Still holes, arent they, in the system . And still holes, arent they, in the system . And they still holes, arent they, in the system . And they are not being plugged, these gaps are not being plugged, these gaps are not being plugged quick enough. Thats right, and it is just plugged quick enough. Thats right, and it isjust not good enough that the kind of response is that, because the fact is they have the resources they needed and they had the powers they needed, they had very extensive powers. So i am sure there may be cases where there was very little that could have been done, that there is a Major Overhaul thatis done, that there is a Major Overhaul that is required, but in case after case that i deal with, and you cherlyees case, had all the powers they needed, theyjust did not use them. And part of the problem is the attitude to Domestic Abuse, too often it is too easy to disbelieve the woman. We know that cherlyee withdrew her allegation, she made very, very clear allegations to the authorities and then withdrew them and we know, as chiyvonne mentioned, she withdrew them because, when she withdrew, he was hiding in a cupboard with a knife. She was being visited by Police Officers and he was in the cupboard. She put on the performance of her life. That is what abused women will do. So for the authorities, with all the expertise, they have to come to a meeting like that with a high risk victim and she has been assessed as a high risk victim of a high risk perpetrator, and just to accept at face value what she has told, it is not good enough, they know better than this. Why do they keep getting it wrong . I saw you nodding there, chiyvonne, talking about the attitude still to Domestic Violence, and this is the worst of all scenarios. What are your thoughts on how people still see this . The authorities about this . They have got the processes to follow, because the background where i come from, you know, working with police and in hospitals, and cherlyee was, there was one point where she had been attacked, she had broken bones and she had gone out to another hospital where she was met by professionals, nurses, and. He was with her at all times. There is a policy that they should have, and they actually made a note that, you know, safeguarded, he was with her at all times, they should have addressed it. She was never a drinker, she never went out to party, you know . Why was she out in the early hours of the morning with a broken jaw and a broken cheekbone . It was noted, safeguarding note, that he was with her at all times, they should have, that was the. You know, an instinct that wasnt acted on. For me. And in all cases, even with social workers, you know, i have got the knowledge and power, police, but it wasnt acted on. Everyone watching will be full of admiration for you for taking us through this story and i know that the emotions are very raw because the inquest was so recently so thank you so much for joining us. And sarah, thank you very much as well forjoining us. We will have a look at the weather for you now. Matts on the banks of the river dee in north wales for us this morning. Morning. Good morning. A bit overcast for some, particularly in the Channel Islands, but elsewhere it will be bright. A fresh start but the sun getting to work, blue skies for the vast majority through the day. Pleasant in the afternoon. 0n the north and west of scotland, and of enough breeze to blow them through quite quickly. The winds will pick up quite quickly. The winds will pick up in the far north but lighter further south, a pleasant day but even with humidity, it will feel warm in afternoon, and bridges where they should be for this time of year. It will turn koller through tonight across the southern half of the country where skies remain clear but scotland, Northern Ireland cloud spreading of the atlantic will bring some outbreaks of rain to the far north in particular as we head into tomorrow morning, keeping temperatures up here but a little on the fresher side the further south you are. We split the country into for saturday, going into the weekend with lots of sunshine across england that wales under blue skies for most of you through the morning mist and fog, or cloud for scotland and Northern Ireland, some sunny spells to the west but the club will be thick enough outbreaks of rain throughout and they should be the odd spot further south through the day and a windy day for the northern half of the country which will temper the feel of things as winds tudge 40 50 miles an hour, 23 degrees possible towards the south east corner. From a faded anchor to a regimental badge, tattoos have long been associated with the tough image of a british sailor, soldier or airman. But a new exhibition of military personnels tattoos, which opens today, is proving that many of the designs and the stories behind them go far deeper than basic macho pride. Breakfasts john maguire went to have a look. Four tomlinson, decorated former royal marines, National Memorial are rooted in staffordshire offers a permanent reminder of friends and comrades lost in the war in afghanistan. It takes its toll. Again, coming back, and paying tribute and remembering to these amazingly courageous, brave people. That is the least we can do, really. Here, their names are immortalised in granite but matt carries a personal reminder. Ink. Tattooed into his skin. Ijust needed something that i could take with me, the courage and the bravery that they showed, the respect, the leadership, and they were just fantastic. Colleagues that i fought alongside and you know, that is the least i could do is have their names tattooed on my back. He is one of the servicemen and women photographed for tribute ink, a new exhibition by the Royal British legion. It opens today at the National Memorial arboretum and matt, seeing his photo, for the first time. What do you think of that . Absolutely amazing. Yes. It is what it is all about. Whole project, i think. It helps me, you know, deal with their loss. I feel that they are still around me, as a part of me, and they will always be with me. Among those features is johnson barry, awarded the Victoria Cross in iraq. He rarely wears his real middle. He too carries it co nsta ntly. Middle. He too carries it constantly. These images portray not just a current trend but a rich military tradition. Military tattoos are centuries old. This ink is about tattooed but not just are centuries old. This ink is about tattooed but notjust about are centuries old. This ink is about tattooed but not just about tattoos, about the stories of sacrifice and remembrance and these military men and women that go and do extraordinary things for us and how we remember others and the things that they have done. Solheim cup one of the biggest womens sporting events in the world. Its happening. Its here in glorious scotland. The excitements building for the spectators, and, of course, the players. Take me through this moment. Your first shot at your first solheim cup as a player on the first tee. Ball in hand, its going into the ground. What are you thinking . Im taking probably a couple of deep breaths, checking if i have a pulse. All ages, all experiences, tell me what youre going to need from the captains. Do you like tough love or do you need a cuddle . Id say tough love more than anything. Golf, its a brutal game. Its the female equivalent to the mens ryder cup and team europe will be fighting for its first win since 2013. A bitter rivalry against the us team, thats an understatement. Its fast, its aggressive, its interesting, its quick. Its just pure competition, its just pure competitiveness between the europe and the united states. We always want to beat the united states, or try to, so its obviously one of the biggest showcases of womens sport. Where is the team going to be weakest . Anyone eating breakfast or not eating breakfast with nerves like that . Everyone was eating breakfast quite happily this morning. We have a nutritionist, beanie has brought one end, everyone loves their food and everyone was desperate to go la st and everyone was desperate to go last night. I know captain Catriona Matthew was saying about bronte, she is in the first pairing, she was chomping at the bit to get going and she seems like a character that suits this team format. She has partnered up best with our letter. Similar personality to myself in a way, very fiery and she loves this atmosphere, bit of a show off, so shell be one of our best performers this week. I spent the morning with her this week and shes ready to go definitely. For english players out in the morning foursomes, how important is that you get the crowd behind this team . They always talk about a 13th man being the crowd but it really is. Im going to go the thirsty and i dont think they any encouragement to be loud. First tier. Looking at the screen behind me, matt is on the river dee in north wales and looking behind you, matt, i know theres a big project under way. Its a beautiful place but obviously people keen to keep exactly exa ctly a nd exactly and why not . We have the castle behind us, good morning, from North East Wales, and as charlie mentioned a big project taking place starting today, the dee day project, a two week project keeping the environment around the river and its catchment in pristine condition. Im joined by a volunteer, gladess, and also from flint rnli, alan forrester. Thank you forjoining us. You have been involved in the project since it started in 2007, gladys. What does it mean to you . An awful lot because this is a fantastic area and it is good to keep it clean for when visitors come along and they appreciated and love it as much as i do. Fantastic. One of the local organisations involved, rnli, why is it important . To get the volunteer crew involved, to keep an eye out for the foreshore and keep it clean, we work with them for many years and we enjoyed helping. We have to mention the weather is stunning this morning, we are at the time of year when sea temperatures again, isaw time of year when sea temperatures again, i saw whether quite fine for most, but some will be tempted to go to see. What sort of advice can you give . We want people to come down to the coast and enjoy themselves but to be safe. If you come down, check on the weather tidal conditions, make sure your equipment is in working order, have the means of calling for help if you get into difficulty and as i say, be safe. If you do unexpectedly and up in the water due to slips, trips or falls, the advice is to float to live. Float until, extend your arms and your legs, float until you get your breathing under control and only then, wave and shout or get someone to dial 994 the coastguard. If you are seeing someone in trouble yourself, do not enter the water or put yourself in danger, phone 999 and ask for the coastguard. Great advice and good luck with you and your crew helping out this morning. I will get in there myself as well. Gladys is already out there picking up gladys is already out there picking up litter. A cracking project, i am sure there will be many up and down the country and a wonderful start weatherwise. Looking at the forecast and the weekend, today, blue skies for the vast majority although there will be one or two exceptions as ever. Not quite as humid as it was yesterday, slightly fresher particular first thing and looking at the big chart, High Pressure is moving in of the atlantic. That is bringing the dry weather. A few weather fronts, one in bringing the dry weather. A few weatherfronts, one in the bringing the dry weather. A few weather fronts, one in the south, bringing the dry weather. A few weatherfronts, one in the south, it is here where we have the legacy of cloud and rain and drizzle which push yourself through the night so a great start of the southernmost counties into the Channel Islands. Writing up for many, staying grey and damp in the Channel Islands. Odd showers in scotland, one quite heavy, but they should move through quickly followed by the sun and in between, sunshine. The vast majority stays dry and sunny through the day and with most of you under light winds even though it is not as humid as yesterday it was still feel warm, temperatures as they should be for this stage in september, mid teens to low 20s. Tonight we will see the clear skies dominating cross england and wales with some mist and fog patches, scotland and Northern Ireland have a bit more cloud and to the highlands and islands, wetter later on. That will keep temperatures up, whereas further south across england and wales, clear skies and a fresh start to the weekend with temperatures as low as three orfour in one or two weekend with temperatures as low as three or four in one or two spots. Maybe some frost in well sheltered places. A lovely day to come on saturday for england and wales, blue skies for much of the day and some sunshine in scotland and Northern Ireland but more cloud generally speaking wet for the highlands and islands, a lot of dry weather as well. Winds strong across the north touching 40 or 50 miles an hour in northern scotland, tempering some things but the further south you are, warm in the sunshine, 23 is the hi. I weather front pushes southwards on sunday, somewhere about Northern England, southern scotland, north wales, Northern Ireland, somewhere around the zone, keep an eye on the forecast if you have plans. The rain could hit further south. Dry weather for many, right today in northern scotland, sunny it was a south eastern corner and within temperatures here at around 25 celsius. Looking good for the golf, looking good for the cricket as well, and looking good if you have got you have cricket as well, and looking good if you have got any plans too. If you have, enjoy them. I am sure anyone with plans will do that, thank you. Matt. Sainsburys has announced plans to halve its use of Plastic Packaging over the next six years. Ninas talking to the boss. Packaging, of course, is the big issue at the moment. Good morning. Yes, go down any supermarket aisle and chances are, there will be plastic everywhere you look. And dont get me started on how quickly the recycling bin fills up. Supermarkets are taking action, though. Sainsburys is the latest retailer to commit to reducing their use of plastic. They plan to cut plastic in their packaging by 50 by 2025. Notjust their own not just their own label, notjust their own label, but all plastic. They currently use about 120,000 tonnes of Plastic Packaging per year at the moment. Mike coupe is the chief executive of sainsburys. Good morning. Greenpeace has praised this target but said why will it ta ke this target but said why will it take you so long . Six years. This target but said why will it take you so long . Six yearsm this target but said why will it take you so long . Six years. It is a big undertaking and it requires us to change our business a lot. It requires our customers to change some of their shopping habits, and it requires our Manufacturing Companies and the people we work with to supply the products that we sell to change their businesses. It is not something that can be solved overnight and as you say it is an ambitious target to reduce by 50 over five years. We think it is a significant commitment and far further than any of our competitors or indeed anyone in the world has gone. Is it two ambitious . Too ambitious . Are you going to do it . That is why we are setting out the ambitious target, we are going to change the way that we work. It is the single Biggest Issue i get letters a nd the single Biggest Issue i get letters and e mails about and it is a big issue in the minds of our collea g u es a big issue in the minds of our colleagues in the stores so we know it is front and centre of what our customers care about and therefore it is incumbent upon us to take action. And we are pleased with the progress we have made. In the fruit and Veg Department in a couple of stores we have ta ken and Veg Department in a couple of stores we have taken away plastic bags and we are finding that customers have adapted their behaviour and have coped with that very well and in fact have positively embraced it so we know the things that we would not have even thought about a few years ago, we can actually make happen in our organisation and customers will respond positively. It feels very much that you are transferring the owners onto the customer and encouraging us to bring tupperware to the delhi council, for example. Why should we have to about it . I should not you . Deli counter. Why should we have to about it . I should not you . Deli counter. The customers do have to change some of their behaviours and we cannot get rid of containers on a deli counters without having an alternative and generally speaking customers will embrace that, as i said, we have trialed the kinds of things were talking about out further, customers have embraced it. But i am the first to hold my hands up and say we have a direct responsibility to do everything we can, not only in our business but also to help our customers. A charity has raised concerns about the unintentional Collateral Damage about using alternative types of plastic. Does that worry you . Yes, and again we have to think about these things in the round so im not pretending for one moment we have all of the a nswe rs. One moment we have all of the answers. That when we think about our business and we think about the changes that we make, we have to think about all of the consequential impacts, that the ability to recycle the products that we put into the system or into the impact on food waste, plastic plays an Important Role in protecting the products that we sell. If you just did nothing other than remove the plastic you would increase the amount of food waste, not just in would increase the amount of food waste, notjust in the stores but also in the customerss homes. So these things need to be thought through carefully. It is ambitious. We will not be able to achieve this without working together with our customers and suppliers and indeed we are encouraging our customers to talk to us through our website to give us any ideas they may have for us to be able to reduce plastic as well. And what are you doing in what changes are your employees doing for example, in the canteen . We have been recycling plastics within our internal systems for a number of years now, probably five yea rs, number of years now, probably five years, and looking for exactly the same initiatives in the heart of our business as we are putting through our stores. It is very much front and centre. It isntjust about what were doing as far as our customers are concerned but also about working within own supply chain. An operation yellowhammer, have warned in the past about anti shelves in sainsburys as a result of no deal brexit. What provisions are you making and how are you feeling at the end of october . making and how are you feeling at the end of october . I would repeat what i have said over the last couple of years, in the end no deal brexit extremely challenging to cope with, particularly for short life fresh food, even if there is a two day delay at borders, you can imaginea lot two day delay at borders, you can imagine a lot of the products that we supply from Southern Europe actually have only two days life by the time they get to the uk so effectively they would be completely wasted. And of course at the time of year, it is a particular helpful because we have come out of the british season and were tending to source products from elsewhere in the world and we building up for christmas so if you wanted to pick a particular time of day or year to actually have a hard brexit, this is properly one of the worst you could choose. We will not starve as a nation, that would be misleading, but it certainly would be disruptive. And expensive most supermarkets concede a price increase will be put onto the consumer. Can you give us a tangible figure . One bag of oranges from morocco via spain is £135 but in the event of a no deal brexit, what kind of price hike would be be seeing . It is very difficult to predict because the price of fruit and vegetable go up and down literally on a week to week basis. Commonly the most Significant Impact is the impact of the pound on the currency movements and certainly after the vote injuly, we saw food prices rise probably to a peak of around four or 5 annualised inflation, i am around four or 5 annualised inflation, iam not around four or 5 annualised inflation, i am not for one moment suggesting it would happen again but if there is a dramatic revaluation of the pound, it would have a knock on impact in terms of prices that customers play in our shops but ourjobis that customers play in our shops but ourjob is to do everything we can to mitigate it. Does the knot, point isa to mitigate it. Does the knot, point is a business when you say actually, no deal is better than this. Then kicking it into the grass again and again. I think the mood of the nation is one of can we notjust get on with it . I can sympathise. We have planned three times now, given the various deadlines that we have had to deal with, to get through a no deal brexit but equally, we should not shy away from the fact it would be very disruptive in the short term to our supply chains but to our economy more generally in the medium to long term and we should not dismiss that and we have to make sure we do everything we can mitigate it. Mike, many thanks, and no worries, will keep an eye on those targets. Ambitious indeed time now to get the news, travel and weather where you are. Good morning from bbc london, im tarah welsh. Lots of warm and humid air around, but also plenty of cloud, too. Now, it is a cloudy start to the day. Weve had a few outbreaks of drizzle as well. Weve still got that cloud toward southern areas for a while this morning, but its pushing its way south eastwards, thats that cold front. It leaves behind it cooler air, but lots of blue sky and sunshine to enjoy as well. It will feel pleasantly warm in the sunshine but temperatures lower than they were yesterday with much lighter winds, too. Highs of 21 or 22 degrees celsius. And there will be more sunshine to come this evening. Then overnight tonight, in that cooler air well see temperatures dip lower than they have been in recent nights back into single figures for most places. Join me in North East Wales, where local Community Groups and businesses are coming together to improve the environment around the river dee. It is a beautiful start for most of us today. Will the sunshine last this weekend . I will have the forecast right here on brea kfast. Its friday september the 13th. Our top story. The house of commons speaker, john bercow, has warned that he will use all of his powers to stop the Prime MinisterBoris Johnson from ignoring the law which blocks a no deal brexit. Mr bercow called it astonishing that anyone has even entertained the notion of forcing through a brexit without the approval of mps. Our Political CorrespondentJessica Parker is in westminster. Jessica, what powers are at mr bercows disposal . He is leaving hisjob relatively shortly, perhaps he feels a new found freedom to make what is a pretty blunt proposal to the Prime Minister . Yeah, perhaps he is feeling a finished mob happy although it has to be said thatjohn virgo has been outspoken before he announced that he would be leaving at the end of october. Important to point out that he is the highest authority in the house of commons. John authority in the house of commons. John bercow. And authority in the house of commons. John bercow. And he is a bit of a marmite character on these issues. For some people, he has the champion of backbenchers, somebody standing up of backbenchers, somebody standing upfor of backbenchers, somebody standing up for parliament against an over mighty executive. For others, he has damaged the idea that the speaker is totally impartial, too often, in the view of some people, siding with backbenchers and opposition groups who want to stop a no deal brexit or maybe stop brexit altogether. The government might be feeling a touch nervous this morning after his comments last night, amid speculation that borisjohnson could try to find some kind of a loophole when it comes to the law recently passed by mps, designed to block a no deal brexit and potentially seek a delay to brexit. John bercow saying last night at a lecture, not obeying the law must surely be a nonstarter,. He had an interesting comparison to make to hammer home his point. One should no more refuse that that one could possibly excuse robbing a bank on the basis that the cash stolen would be donated to a charitable cause immediately afterwards. And the only form of brexit which we will have, whenever that might be, will be a brexit that the house of commons has explicitly endorsed. Of course, john bercow has delivered a few bombshells in his time, ithink delivered a few bombshells in his time, i think it seems likely that when parliament resumes, next month, perhaps he might deliver one or two more before he heads off. Domestic violence killings across the uk are at their highest level for five years, according to police force figures obtained by the bbc. Thats despite a series of measures taken by the government to reduce Domestic Abuse. Our Home Affairs Correspondent tom symonds reports. Around 10,500 people in the uk are living with the lung condition Cystic Fibrosis. As of this week, some of them will have free access to two life changing drugs on the nhs but only if they live in scotland. Thats come as bittersweet news for patients in the rest of the uk, and their families, as breakfasts Graham Satchell has been finding out. Orkambi is a Ground Breaking treatment for Cystic Fibrosis, a life shortening condition that mainly affects a patients lung function. The drug isnt a cure, but is the only treatment that tackles the underlying causes of the condition. The problem is, its expensive. The list price from vertex, the company that makes it, is more than £100,000 per patient, per year. Its been rejected on the nhs in england, wales and Northern Ireland because its not considered cost effective. In scotland, orkambi has had an interesting history. For the last nine months, its been available to a small number of patients on a trial basis. Last month, the Scottish Medicines Consortium rejected a longer term deal, again on cost grounds. But now the Scottish Government has said they will pay for the drug on the nhs for the next five years. The price in scotland has not been made public. It means patients with Cystic Fibrosis will now be treated on the nhs in scotland, but nowhere else in the uk, putting huge pressure on the government in westminster to respond. Rebecka bows eight year old daughter sofia has Cystic Fibrosis and because they live in wales, they are still unable to get access to medication. We can see a picture of sofia behind us. Taylor said it about her and how the condition affects her. Cystic fibrosis is a complex condition, it is obviously the lungs, the lungs fill with a sticky mucus and it is like drowning inside, basically. The longer time goes on, the more the drowning effect takes place, so we do physiotherapy every day, she has 30, some people take 40, 50 cocktails of drugs everyday to try to keep clear the mucous. Many does she take . Approximately 30, every timesheets anything with any fat she needs to take medication, she does the nebuliser every day, lots of exercise, there is a lot that goes on to try to. All the physio youre doing, and the cocktail of medicine she is to prevent physical. Euros is a lot of wait . It is to prevent her lungs filling up it is to prevent her lungs filling up with mucus so what we try to do is to drain the lungs every day and what these drugs will do is stop the clock, stop the filling up of the mucus in the lungs. How would that change sophias life every day, i am assuming she is at school . She is at school, she is doing very well but there is a lot going on behind the scenes to get her to that stage every day. So the reality now is that families like yours who have children who have this condition in scotla nd children who have this condition in scotland will get the drugs that you seek . Yes. So what will you do . Yesterday, they were granted the drugs on the nhs, which is fantastic news, theyve worked extremely hard to get to this stage. But as you say, it is bittersweet for us because we needed coming to the other regions as well. Vertex wrote to the Welsh Government yesterday saying they would liaise with them. Vertex is the company that makes the. . Them. Vertex is the company that makes the. . The them. Vertex is the company that makes the. . The manufacturers them. Vertex is the company that makes the. . The manufacturers of the drug. They wrote yesterday saying that they will send some data through to the Welsh Government and we are stuck in the middle. But scotla nd we are stuck in the middle. But scotland has agreed, is there no collaboration between scotland and the Welsh Government . We are hoping, the Welsh Government . We are hoping, the rules are different, we are separate. I know you are separate but i suppose i am trying to figure out the level of acceptance or requirement for that drug to be made available . That is the stage that we are at now, as to whether we can do the same deal that scotland have done, whether the same data can be used. That has been a huge injection of money . It is an expensive drug, but Cystic Fibrosis is an expensive condition, when you take into account lung transplants, the nebuliser, the physiotherapy, everything that goes into the daily regime, it is an expensive condition anyway. To put this into perspective, earlier this year, vertex, the manufacturer, refused a 500 and the impounds offer over five yea rs 500 and the impounds offer over five years from nhs england, which nhs england said was the largest commitment ever made. A £500 million offer. I know you are wales, not england, but how do you feel about the drug company . To wearing the hat of a parent, it is difficult to digester. But then i understand that they have put millions, if not billions, into the research and develop meant of these drugs as well. So, we are stuck in between. We are dealing with the daily regime of keeping sofia well, as are many other parents. Some people might be thinking, no doubt, you have thought about this yourself, given the decision in scotland, i mean, you could choose to live somewhere other than wales . Yeah. That is something that we have considered. My family are all from south wales, so it would be a huge decision for us to uproot, but it is her life at the end of the day, so it is something that we will have to consider if wales are told we definitely wont have the drug. There must be plenty of families who are in not dissimilar situations . Yep. Lots of people. Having the same thought process . People. Having the same thought process . Yes, theres lots of people considering this now in light of this. This drug can add a proximately 23 years to their life, it is huge. When will you hear a decision . We are hoping in the next few weeks that wales will have a bit more information, england will have more information, england will have more information. We are stuck in between, we are waiting, we only find out some information. It is difficult to. Can i ask, she is eight, how much does she know about all of this which is going on . She knows that we are fighting for this drug, she knows that it will help her in the future. We all take vitamins in the morning with her so she never feels different, vitamins in the morning with her so she neverfeels different, we vitamins in the morning with her so she never feels different, we take a cocktail of drugs with her and we try to make fun of all the exercise and the physiotherapy. We are ok at the moment with regards to that. And the physiotherapy. We are ok at the moment with regards to thatm is lovely to see you this morning, good luck and let us know what happens. Dont become back when you find out, it would be really good to hear from you. A Welsh Government spokesperson has said. Our nhs relies on evidence based appraisals to ensure that its limited resources are used to best effect. Since 2016, we have repeatedly invited Vertex Pharmaceuticals to engage in the all wales medicines strategy groups appraisal process. Vertex subsequently made a commitment to do so but have not yet honoured that commitment. We invite vertex, once again, to submit their evidence. An make an informed decision about using their medicines. Matt is on the banks of the river dee in north wales for us this morning, which is looking. That could almost bejuly, with the sunshine. Yes, very good morning to you. North east wales, in flint, just to the left we have got flint castle, built in 1277, part of edward is campaign here in north wales. And we have got the dee estuary to the right as well. Taking place here, starting today, over the next to weeks, is the big dee day project in which local communities come together to improve the environment around here, litter picking, planting trees. We will be chatting to a few more of the volu nteers chatting to a few more of the volunteers in the next half an hour. But for those heading out today, what a sunny start to your friday. And the forecast is looking good for most of you at least. Lets take a look at those details. It is a bit fresher out there this morning than it was yesterday. Weve lost the humid air. But with High Pressure building in off the atlantic, most places dry with some sunshine. You will notice on the price of charts, a cool front just of will notice on the price of charts, a cool frontjust of the country. That is that is what is sweeping away the humidity of yesterday. But underneath it, lots of cloud. Whilst at the south of england will brighten up, the Channel Islands may stay that way all day long. Some showers pushing in across scotland today but enough of a breeze to push it through quite quickly. The vast majority of the uk, a dry and Sunny Afternoon and a pleasantly warm one, with light winds. Temperatures around about where they should be for this time of year. Through tonight, england and wales, staying dry and clear. Scotland and Northern Ireland, a lot more cloud around. We will see some persistent rain to the highlands and islands. Keeps the temperatures up here but under the clear crops, england and wales, the weekend is going to start on a fairly cool note. England and wales tomorrow, starting the weekend, will be dry and sunny through much of saturday. Much more cloud for scotla nd saturday. Much more cloud for scotland and Northern Ireland. A little bit of rain here and there, most persistent across the far north. It is here where we will see strong and gusty winds, possibly up to 50mph at times. But with light winds across england and wales, the sunshine out, even warmer than today, 23 celsius is possible. The weather front heads down into central areas as we get into sunday, where it will ultimately end up a bit of a question mark at the moment. Claudia and may be a bit dampfor moment. Claudia and may be a bit damp for some of you compared with saturday. Slightly lighter winds to the south of the country, we will see blue skies yet again. It will feel very pleasant indeed this weekend. 25 degrees coming up, like july, as you said nina has been taking a look at the problems with whirlpool appliances. Yes, back in july problems with whirlpool appliances. Yes, back injuly there was a recall notice for around half a million tumble dryers which were believed to bea tumble dryers which were believed to be a fire risk. So far they have managed to track down 65,000, but that means there could be hundreds of thousands still out there. We saw the pictures in bristol where a fire had started in a tumble drier and the damage it can do. Whirlpool have issued a renewed appeal for these fire risk tumble dryers, they could be hotpoint, credo, or other names. They say, get in touch with us if you think yours might be at risk because we dont know where they are. So, 65,000 so far, have been fixed or replaced, hundreds of thousands potentially needing to be, what has whirlpool said now . They have said they are relying on us now, this is why they have had this renewed appeal, to get in touch, to look at our tumble dryers and get in touch with them. Keeping in mind that these products were made between 2004 and 2015, we bought the company in late 2014, but even though we did not make these products, they are now our responsibility. Anytime you have a situation like this, we are committed to learning from it, finding a way we can always improve. I would not say it has changed our commitment to safety, it has made it top of mind, even more so. So, whirlpools response, more generally and the response of the customers . Some people are happy, they have got a brand new tumble drier. Other customers have said, i got mine modified when it was first worried, and now that has negated my right to get a new one, and they say that is not fair. Is that true, so, if you had it modified, you cant now get a new one . You cant get a brandnew one because if you had a different engineer come to improve it, you cant get your brand new one. Some consumers are saying that is desperately unfair. So, what you need to do is go online to the whirlpool website and have a look and check if your drier might be affected, they have a hotline open six days a week so you can give them a ring on saturday. Some people are even scared to leave their houses tv saw that earlier. Nina, thank you very much. Were talking tattoos this morning. One in five people in the uk have got at least one and the full sleeve is all the rage for athletes and celebrities. But the tattoo culture in our Armed Services goes way beyond a fashion fad. A new exhibition, which opens today, has delved into some of the stories behind the ink. Breakfasts john maguire went to have a look. For matt tomlinson, a decorated former royal marine, the National Memorial arboretum in staffordshire offers a permanent reminder of friends and comrades lost in the war in afghanistan. It takes its toll, it does hit you, and again, coming back and just paying paying tribute and remembrance to these amazingly courageous, brave people. Thats the least we can do, really, isnt it . Here, their names are immortalised in granite, but matt carries a personal reminder ink, tattooed into his skin. Ijust needed something that i could take with me. The courage and the bravery that they showed, the respect, the leadership, and they were just fantastic colleagues that i fought alongside and, you know, thats the least i could do is to have their names tattooed on my back. He is one of the servicemen and women photographed for tribute ink a new exhibition by the Royal British legion. It opens today at the National Memorial arboretum and matt is seeing his photo for the first time. What do you think of that . Absolutely amazing. Yep. Thats what its all about the whole project, i think. And it helps me, you know, deal with their their loss. I just feel that theyre still around me, or, you know, a part of me, and, you know, they will always be with me, so to speak. Among those features is lance sergeantjohnson beharry, awarded the Victoria Cross in iraq, and who rarely wears his real medal. He, too, carries a constant reminder beneath his uniform. These images portray not just a current trend, but a rich military tradition. Military tattoos are centuries old. This is tribute ink is about tattoos but its not about tattoos. Its about the stories of sacrifice, its about remembrance, its about these military men and women that go and do extraordinary things for us and how they remember others and the things they have done. The legion is inviting other former and serving of the armed forces to send in pictures of their tattoos, with themes including remembering the fallen, a badge of belonging, and marking memories. Which, for senior aircraftman beth dunning, means a penguin. My tattoo represents a great accomplishment for me. I got the penguin after six months in the falklands. It was my first tour, the first time prolonged out of the country away from home, and it wasjust it was the best experience ive had so far of my career. After the arboretum, the exhibition will travel the uk, offering very personal insights into the people behind the uniform. John maguire, bbc news, staffordshire. There is so much coming up, first, find out whats happening where you are, see you in a couple of minutes. We have a decent days weather on our hands. Certainly widely across the British Isles with High Pressure in charge. It has settled the weather very nicely indeed. No longer the strength of the wind that was such a feature of yesterdays weather for money nor the closer fail because the weather front worked its way through overnight and the last of the club pulling away from the coast and from the Channel Islands. So fine and settle for the most part, the exception to the rule, a noticeable breeze assuring showers across western parts of scotland. A fresher feel overall with high of around 21 also across the south east. We keep the autumnal chill through the evening and overnight. Temperatures tumbling into single figures with the notable exception of this north west and quarter of scotland. A blanket of cloud tied in with atlantic weather fronts. The first signs of a spell of quite wet and windy weather. Especially so again across the north and north west of scotland. Further south, we have the effects of the High Pressure so a chilly start to saturday but a glorious day in prospect for much of england and wales. Northern ireland clouding over as the day goes on. Maybe some warm getting in later in the day and a similar prospect in scotland, where the wind will be a feature in this North Western quarter. Gusts up to 60 miles an hour and telling that to 60 miles an hour and telling that to the western isles, the north west of the mainland. 12 to 15 here but further south, two or three degrees up further south, two or three degrees up to around 22 or 23. That weather fronts and to lie west to east across the British Isles during the course of sunday. A fresh feel to the north, dry conditions with the peppering of showers. Further south, and one day in prospect with 24, may bea and one day in prospect with 24, may be a bit more. This is business live from bbc news with susannah streeter and samantha simmonds.
