Showdown in downing street the chancellor confronts borisjohnson after his aide was sacked without his knowledge. £400 million for colleges offering vocational courses in england to support new technical qualifications. The common virus youve probably never heard of, but can be dangerous for unborn babies. Well have a special report. Opening of the world for all four children with physical disabilities. It gives us a chance to be like the rest of us. However life has set us back, we can always play football. Johanna konta is the last brit standing in the us open singles draw. Shes on form and into the fourth round, but an unhappy dan evans is thrashed by Roger Federer. Good morning. It is the last day of august and some of us are clinging onto a bit of warmth and sunshine but for most, we will see some rain pushing eastwards and it turns much cooler, just in time for tomorrow, the first of september. Full details here on breakfast. Good morning it is the last day of august. Our top story the chancellor sajid javid has confronted borisjohnson over the abrupt sacking of one of his special advisers. Whitehall sources say sonia khan was questioned about government leaks by borisjohnsons senior adviser, Dominic Cummings. She was then dismissed from downing street, despite no evidence that she was behind the disclosure. Our political reporterjohn owen is in our london newsroom. What more do we know, john . It all sounds a bit westminster and a bit high politics with the special advisors and stuff. Well its down for us. It is a row that goes right to the heart of borisjohnsons government. Sonia khan was a special advisor to translate the dudejavid was let out of downing street in pretty dramatic fashion on thursday night after having her phone examined by borisjohnsons de facto chief of staff at cummings. It seems she was suspected of leaking sensitive government information, although it turns out there is no evidence that she did in fact click any information that could be considered sensitive, but it is now emerged that mrjavid has confronted the Prime Minister over this sacking, the second member of his tea m sacking, the second member of his team to be sucked in one month and he is clearly unhappy about it because it seems he did not know in advance about the sacking so clearly not best pleased about that at all. To be sucked in one month. The two men generally enjoy a good working relationship but clearly in this insta nce relationship but clearly in this instance there have been crosswords exchanged. This will come at the beginning of a very thought of potentially fractious time in politics and we are expecting opposition mps, those who are opposed to borisjohnsons brexit plans, to attempt to legislate a breakneck speed this coming week against the possibility of a no deal brexit which mrjohnson has said that he will pursue if he cannot reach a new accommodation with the eu by october 31. But of course borisjohnson has plans to suspend Parliament Just days after mps returned from the summer break has left the room for manoeuvre minuscule so their ability to legislate against brexit, against a no deal, limited by time now. Meanwhile, john, we understand there are plans for a number of protest gcioss are plans for a number of protest across the country today of people who are so worried and so angry about this proroguing of parliament. I think it speaks to the anger that has followed on from this announcement. A lot of people consider this to be an affront to democracy, parliamentary democracy, and of course borisjohnson makes the case this is part of the routeing process of government and has little to do with brexit he says and everything to do with getting his new domestic agenda in place but has clearly prompted a lot of anger as you say likely to be protest gcioss as you say likely to be protest across the country today, those protest supported by the leader of the opposition jeremy corbyn. John, thank you indeed, we will check in with you later. Thanks. Meanwhile, £400 million of additional funding is to be given to colleges offering Vocational Training for 16 to 18 year olds in england. The treasury says the money will support the introduction of new t level qualifications next year. A government review earlier this year found that £1 billion of Capital Investment was needed for further education colleges. The education secretary Gavin Williamson said todays announcement is a significant boost. And its a significant increase in terms of the amount of funding that all six forms and further education establishments will be having, and it will be making sure that weve got the right skills for our young people, to equip britain for future generations. The Charity Samaritans is being criticised for entering into a year Long Partnership with a gambling company. Staff at Paddy Power Betfair chose samaritans as their charity of the year and are supporting it through fundraising, corporate donations and volunteering. Critics say samaritans shouldnt work with the gambling industry. Dan whitworth, from radio 4s money box programme, has more. If you are sat in a pub, you can tell the guy whos an alcoholic. You can lets be honest you can tell the guy whos on drugs. The young man sat in the car and on his phone is gambling his life away and nobody knows because its such a hidden thing. Critics, including relatives of people with gambling problems who took their own lives, say samaritans is risking its well earned reputation by working with Paddy Power Betfair, adding it should stop taking the compa nys money. The mp carolyn harris, who chairs the all Party Parliamentary group on gambling related harm, says she is shocked by the deal. She calls it disgraceful and appalling. Others on social media, as well as the Charity Gambling with lives, have voiced similar opinions. Both samaritans and Paddy Power Betfair have defended the partnership, though. Samaritans says it will work with the company to Paddy Power Betfair, meanwhile, says the charitys expertise will help develop existing safeguards for vulnerable customers. There are more than 400,000 problem gamblers in britain, according to the gambling commission, defined as people whose gambling compromises, disrupts or damages family, personal or recreational pursuits, with a further 2 Million People at risk. Things even now can just hit you. Its just something stupid, that will set it off and youll hear something or youll see something or youll remember something, and before you know it, its heating up again, its it never goes away. It does get slightly better, but it doesnt go away. We will speak a little bit later to Dan Whitworth about more on that later. A 15 year old boy is in a Critical Condition in hospital after he was stabbed in tottenham in north london. Police think he may have been attacked by someone riding a bicycle on willan road on friday morning. Three people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Police scotland have described the behaviour of protestors who took part in a counter demonstration against an irish unity parade in glasgow as utterly unacceptable. Riot police and officers on horseback were sent to tackle what the force described as significant disorder. Witnesses say smoke bombs were used. There are no reports of injuries or damage to property. A trial date has been set for the man accused of playing a leading role in plotting the september 11 terror attacks. Khalid sheikh mohammed, seen here before and after he was captured, will be tried at guantanamo bay, along with four other men, from january 2021. Hes already been detained for more than 15 years. A powerful storm that is threatening florida and the bahamas has strengthened to category four, according to the Us National Hurricane center. Hurricane dorian is expected to grow Even Stronger as it passes the bahamas before making landfall early next week. A state of emergency has been declared in florida, where residents have been urged to stock enough food, water and medicine. Large crowds of people have gathered in hong kong for what they say is a religious rally, after the police banned a pro democracy protest. It comes a day after several leading activists were arrested. Our china correspondent Stephen Mcdonell is in hong kong. What impact do you think these latest arrests then i going to have on the protesters . Are going to have. Considerable impact. This really is a tense city today. Traffic may be moving on the street where i am standing but if i was to goa where i am standing but if i was to go a little bit further to the west, there are blocks where traffic cannot move through. I have cut those streets off because they are surrounding the beijing government liaison office, essentially the Central Governments headquarters here in hong kong. It is expected to bea here in hong kong. It is expected to be a target today by angry protesters because not only are they angry that the march was banned but also that key pro democracy figures including moderate embers of the Legislative Council have also been picked up overnight. Now, as i say, near the beijing Central Government office, there is a lot of security, there are water cannon trucks already in place, the underground train station has been closed for the day, and the authorities are certainly bracing for places like that to be a focal point today. They have warned protesters not to turn out today but those warnings, like in the past, havent worked. In fa ct, in the past, havent worked. In fact, people seem quite defiant. They are prepared to risk being arrested for unlawful assembly. They are also seemingly prepared to risk even being harmed because these protests have been becoming increasingly violent, especially last weekend, and i think we are bound to see more of that today in the coming hours, in fact. From seeing the pictures that you really get a sense of that. Stephen, thank you for your time. Jack dorsey, the co founder and chief executive of twitter, has had his own account taken over by hackers. His account jack was used to post a string of racist remarks. Twitter says its systems are secure, and a separate mobile network was to blame. Our north America Technology reporter, dave lee, has more. Of all the people youd expect to have a secure twitter account, its this man, the co founder and chief executive of twitter, jack dorsey. And yet, for around 15 minutes on friday, a flurry of tweets appeared on his profile which is followed more more than 4 Million People. The tweets contained highly offensive, racist and anti semitic slurs. But twitter insisted there was no evidence that its own systems had been compromised. In fact, it said there had been a security oversight at the mobile provider responsible for a phone number associated with mr dorseys account. This allowed an unauthorised person to compose and send tweets via text message from the phone number, twitter said, without naming the mobile network involved, adding that issue is now resolved. The group behind the attack calls itself the chuckling squad and has claimed a number of high profile account hacks on twitter this past year. Its an embarrassing incident for mr dorsey and raises questions about the security of a platform that hosts the worlds most powerful political leaders. Dave lee, bbc news, in san francisco. That is really interesting because it certainly is embarrassing, isnt it . You would think the person least likely to be hacked would be the boss. It took a while to get on top of it too, which is surprising. We have a Birthday Celebration now. Taipei zoo has celebrated the 15th birthday of two giant pandas which were gifted to taiwan by the chinese mainland in 2008. You might remember them. The pandas, yuan yuan and tuan tuan, enjoyed two specially made ice cakes decorated with seasonal fruits and vegetables, as well as several ice balloons on bamboo sticks. They dont look terribly delighted with their gifts, do they . Oh what a day. The cake was also designed with special symbols to wish the female yuan yuan good luck in conceiving more offspring. Im glad that is not a thing though. That kind of, you know. Trying to. Anyway, iwill shut that kind of, you know. Trying to. Anyway, i will shut up. That kind of, you know. Trying to. Anyway, iwill shut up. Is it something close to your heart . Funny. Enough pandas doctor brexit. Back to exit. The row over borisjohnsons move to suspend parliament is expected to intensify next week with a string of legal challenges. Mps return to westminster on tuesday. Theyd normally be sitting for a fortnight before breaking for the party conferences. A court in scotland will hold a full hearing on the legality of suspending parliament on wednesday, while in the commons, chancellor sajid javid will present his spending review. Then sirjohn major will launch his legal challenge, with anti Brexit Campaigner gina miller, before a full hearing takes place in Northern Ireland on friday. If you are following brexit, were going to have a busy week you are going to have. If those legal challenges fail, parliament will be suspended sometime between the 9th and 12th september. Lets see what this all means now with aoife odonoghue, whos a professor of International Law at durham university. Thanks for coming in. Thank you. Given your knowledge of the law and parliamentary rules and everything, what are your thoughts on what is going on . I think they are unlikely to win. You can never tell when its going through the courts, but prerogative powers are very hard to challenge in court, they are fully in executive function and normally the courts dont look at them at all. Because of that, because they are an entirely political decision. So it would be a big change of the courts did. The one in Northern Ireland is slightly different because its basically the good friday agreement and the idea that a no deal brexit would hit Northern Ireland just so badly, so there is a different basis. But in the last few yea rs a ny different basis. But in the last few years any case based on the good friday agreement havent succeeded. Think the cases are an outside chance frankly. If those cases of failure in the courts in the various countries, then borisjohnson would be allowed super Rogue Parliament as he wishes and there would be sitting for five weeks he wishes and there would be sitting forfive weeks he he wishes and there would be sitting for five weeks he would he wishes and there would be sitting forfive weeks he would be allowed to grow Rogue Parliament . The mps might try that, putting in a piece of legislation that would allow them to stop it. Mps go back on tuesday, they now appear to have limited time to do anything to anything as far as brexit or anything as far as brexit or anything else is concerned. So, some sort of legislation to prevent corroding is an option, but what can idoin corroding is an option, but what can i do in his new hours theyve got . Proroguing. I do in his new hours theyve got . Proroguing. Jeremy corbyn has been talking about a no confidence motion, but then its a numbers game. They would need quite a number of tory mps to switch side to vote for it. The problem then is that if no motion passes, your then into proroguing anyway and it would be about forming another, alternative government in that period of time during proroguing so there is enough time when they come back into session in orderfor them to pass legislation, if that is what they want. So the message here as there isnt enough time to do all that. There is. If they want to, one of the problems will be the house of lords because basically the house of lords because basically the house of lords can just keep talking and it can be very difficult. Filibustering . Yes. And there was a third of that when the cooper bill was going through but the government decided to step back from trying to block it. What is that . Theyjust talk so much that the deal doesnt have time to go through . You keep introducing amendments and keep interrupting for Standing Orders and that and basically just interrupting for Standing Orders and that and basicallyjust keep the debate going non stop. You could normally the problem is you can get going over the weekend but with proroguing, parliamentjust going over the weekend but with proroguing, Parliament Just shuts stop do you think we will be introduced into any new words over the next week since we have now got had done mark proroguing and filibustering now we have to proroguing and filibustering. Its strange as a lawyer explaining things that are arcane and archaic, its kind of both is going to things. Especially when the court cases are being heard, it will be interesting especially with john major making arguments when he used proroguing in parliament before an election which was controversial at the time, and a basic sorts of the difference between royal assent and royal consent which are two different things. I think people are going to have to become public lawyers, almost. I sent an concent . Whats the difference . Lawyers, almost. I sent an concent . Whats the difference . Assent is at the end, consent is when it is halfway through. That is my filibustering. Thank you for all those new vocabulary words. Lets find out whats happening with the weather. Its 7 19am. Good morning, ben. The words you need to know for this Weather Forecast include rain and ruler as well because there are some pretty big changes on the way cooler. We had temperatures on the 30s, but through today we will see some rain moving is to an temperatures really dip rain moving eastwards. This strip of cloud has already brought a lot of rain across North Western parts of the uk, thats now on the move eastwards and behind it is the floodgates to some very cool area which is going to be pushing its way down from the north west. But we starting of the day on a soggy note across Northern Ireland particularly scotland. Some really heavy bursts of rain here. We already had a lot of rain here. We already had a lot of rain here. We already had a lot of rain across western parts of scotland, close to 100 million metres of rain already, to fall. Blustery, too. Gusts of 40 45 mph. The ranges signs of clearing away from Northern Ireland, by nine oclock there could be drier weather. Then moving across eastwards. It will be some spells of sunshine. For england and wales this band of cloud increasingly light and patchy bushes is good throughout the day, behind it things brighten up with some sunshine. If you show is good throughout the day, behind it things brighten up with some sunshine. A few showers in the north west of england. Add sunshine and showers then developing across much of ireland, and persistent rain confined to the far north where it will be decidedly cool, 12 13 at best in northern scotland. Down in the south east we may scrape into the south east we may scrape into the middle 20s in places. But as we go through this evening insert an idea of the leftovers of that band of cloud and rain clearing away, since i still into the north west but we are all into the cooler air by this stage. So overnight temperatures between 7 11 degrees, a decidedly fresh start if you are early on sunday morning. Do sunday we will see plenty of sunshine, still some showers blowing into Northern Ireland, scotland toppling into northern england, perhaps into east anglia as well. Some of them have set in thundery. Not as many showers in the south west but look at these temperatures, 19 in cardiff, 12 in aberdeen, it is going to feel cooler than it has done lately and as this ridge of High Pressure builds in sunday night, some parts of scotland, believe it oi some parts of scotland, believe it or not, could see a touch of ground frost. Another weather system pushing into the north west though there will be some rain at times in Northern Areas on monday, it is quite a mixed week. It would be a fairamount of dry quite a mixed week. It would be a fair amount of dry weather but it does stay relatively cool. So the movements of the start of september, temperatures are dipping away. Back to you two. Then, thank you very much. I was camping last weekend, glad its not this weekend. Good luck. Stay dry. Its 7 21am. Congenital cmv causes hearing loss in around 1,000 children every year in the uk. It feels just like a cold and is the most common virus passed on by pregnant mums to their unborn babies. Now, a team of nhs staff across the east of england have started the first targeted Screening Programme for cmv. We will answer some of your questions in a minute. Heres our science correspondent richard westcott. Egger or naomi parker has had to practise like this all her life. She has balance problems because she is deaf in one ear and partially deaf in the other, or because her mum caught a virus called cmv when she was pregnant. Oh, hang on hi, naomi, how are you . Yeah. Was the name of this virus . Cytomegalovirus stop cytomegalovirus . Its not a dinosaur, its a virus . I cant really hear certain letters. I replaced them with different letters, so i hear different things. Sometimes people want to be like me because they like my hearing aids, and im like, trust me, you dont. You dont want to be like me. Dmv is a leading cause of deafness in children, its really common cmv, and mostly harmless, but it can be devastating for unborn babies. Ready . Can you let go . Thats why paediatrician tam Holland Brown has set up on a an nhs team to develop a targeted Screening Programme for cmv. We were cutting that i was too late and a lot of the damage was already done at that point. We had to treat cmv within one month of life, and the research was starting to show that that was making a difference. That for some children, it was preventing that hearing was deteriorating and for some children, it was even actually reversing that hearing loss. Ok, so we re reversing that hearing loss. Ok, so were going to have a swap now, a cotton bud that i will place into the babys cotton bud that i will place into the ba bys now. Cotton bud that i will place into the babys now. Just inside of the cheek. Heres how it works. Across these living then, any new baby born with hearing problems will have this specially designed test for the virus. If they have it, there will be offered early treatment. Hello, is that chloe . Hi, chloe. I make a new arrival at this hospital in cambridge, little mate is healthy today, although she didnt want her hearing checked. Itsjust a little bit cold. Little martha. It causes more birth defects and cat litter and she is put together. Mothers can protect themselves by not sharing food and cutlery or kissing a toddler on the lips or a runny nose, but most dont know about it. Chloe, thank you so much more talking to us about it. Youre a doctor, what did you know about cmv when you are pregnant . a doctor, what did you know about cmv when you are pregnant . I mean, id heard of it, there are other viruses that are talked about, and when you go for your appointments and other things you will need to be aware of things to do not to do. But i dont recall much being said about cmv. Most babies born with cmv dont have symptoms or develop problems. But if this programme proves successful, the team hopes that could pave the way for wider cmv screening in future. Has done great today. You can see how well she is doing. So how do you feel as a mum seeing dad . Immensely proud of her. Richard westcott, bbc news, cambridge. Seeing that . Were joined now by doctor tamsin Holland Brown, who is a paediatrician and specialist in childrens hearing loss. Im pregnant, but im pregnant, but i didnt know anything about this. Why is that . Yes, its not well known about. Its great getting the message out there because it is a very common virus. Harmless to the rest of us if we get it, just a cough or a cold, but for pregnant women, there the risk it might affect your unborn child. Not every time, even if you get that virus, it doesnt necessarily mean the baby will get it. But they do, they can get a spectrum of illnesses, so they can actually be very mildly affected and have barely any symptoms at all or they can be quite severely affected and it can affect their brain and their learning and development in some of their physical skills. How do you know the difference between whether youve got a Colder Weather youve got cmv . Uri. It is really difficult because it is one of the coughs and colds that people get often and it good you can get it as a sort of sore throat, glands feeling feverish. Actually, you may think, oh, i have come down with something but im actually fine. But the thing is, pregnant women can avoid it because the Research Shows that its pregnant women who have contact with young children. Young children are the petri dishes that they are with co nsta nt coughs the petri dishes that they are with constant coughs and colds and so it is really common for women to, who are constantly in contact with children because my bodily fluids, if you are changing or cleaning them, you just wash your hands really well, or if youve got a toddler at home, try not to share their drinks and food at the table. Easier said than done. If your toddler is climbing into bed with you was snuggling on the night were giving you cake theyve made, how do you avoid that . It so true. And they say avoid kissing directly on the lips, just while youre pregnant, so you have to kiss everywhere else and still hug them, its fine. But it is transferred by bodily fluids. So if you can just cut down on that you can really prevent getting it while youre pregnant. If you do get it while youre pregnant, does it i assume it doesnt necessarily cause problems in your unborn baby in every case . Uri. This isjust something to increase awareness of and grease the amount, because there is about two or three babies born every day in the uk increase the amount, which ends up being under 1000 year, and so is quite prevalent. Its quite difficult to. Prevalent. Its quite difficult to. Whats prevalent. Its quite difficult to. Whats the treatment if you do haveit . To. Whats the treatment if you do have it . Is an antiviral treatment that has been researched recently and thats been very exciting because its something we treat newborn babies with if they look like theyve got the first signs. And if a child is very severely affected or mildly affected, the one consistent feature of the most common feature that we see is that they get a bit of hearing loss, and they get a bit of hearing loss, and the hearing loss is strange, it can start in one year but then, as the child gets a little bit older, it can child gets a little bit older, it ca n affect child gets a little bit older, it can affect both years. So its deteriorating hearing loss. You also studies a mild hearing loss and become severe. So with the treatment can do is it seems it gives the child a chance to stop that in its tracks to stop the hearing loss from getting worse. So if you can prevent a child from getting a severe hearing loss, you can really give them better life chances. Weve only been doing the newborn hearing screening for 15 years. Before that, children were picked up with deafness when they were two or three yea rs old deafness when they were two or three years old and we really knew that affected beads and language and learning. Im sorry we have to leave it there. Thank you for explaining that affecting speech. The full version will be on bbcs inside out programme in the east this monday night at 7 30pm. And on bbc iplayer afterwards. We will have the headlines for you soon. Hello, this is breakfast withjon kay and steph mcgovern. Good morning. Heres a summary of todays main stories from bbc news. Iwill take you to new york. She is clinging on in there. She is, Johanna Konta had a hip last season and seems to have overcome that in her last grand slams, and has got through that into the us open dip. Johanna konta is the last british player involved at the us open singles after another comfortable win for her at flushing meadows. Dan evans though, is out of the mens event after he was beaten by five time champion Roger Federer. Adam wild was watching. In one of the games greatest arenas, this was dan evans for the first time. Intimidating enough. Even more so when you are greeted by two of sports biggest superstars. Basketball legend kobe bryant only stayed around for the coin toss. Roger federer seemed equally in no mood to hang about. Starting on a charge that would take him to the first set, evans unable to keep pace. Federer famously once described taking on evans as like playing a mirror image a compliment, but no time to reflect. Here he was firmly in his shadow. Outplayed, outclassed, dan evans is out. Far better, though, forJohanna Konta. Chinas zhang shuai was in her way, but she was not in the way for long. The british number one ruthless, unrelenting and never really troubled. A comfortable victory in little over an hour. Commentator Just Brilliant through to the next round. He had played a gruelling four sets against Lucas Pouille in the new york sun the day before he played federer. The 20 time grand slam champion had a rest day. He said the tournament planners have been more allowances for the bigger games but better i disagreed. It is tough on me, isnt it . But it wouldnt be the first part time the higher up players have had a pull so to speak. Also these guys, they want the tournament obviously want roger, would rather roger be going through that much than me, so it is understandable. Lam sick i am sick and tired of it that apparently i call the shots, the tournament and the tv stations too. We can give our opinion. That is what we do. But i am still going to walk out, even if they schedule me at four in the morning. We dont often see a tense Roger Federer there, do we . Romelu lukaku has hit back at former Manchester United defender gary neville for calling him overweight and unprofessional. The belgium striker left old trafford earlier this month to move to inter milan, where hes since beenjoined by alexis sanchez. Lukaku told us his previous managers never had a problem with his work rate. Dont try to question my professionalism. I live for this game. I dont drink, i dont smoke, im at home all the time. I try to do everything that, you know, to improve my game. The last year was just a bad year, and it can happen in football, but you just have to move on, so im not gonna sit here and try and attack him in the public eye. We are two both grown men and we dont need to to i dont need to react in a negative way. He is a pundit, he gets paid to say certain kind of stuff. Im paid to play football, and ijust want to do my best for inter milan, and thats it. Its the International Break next weekend, so the last chance for a fortnight for the premier league sides to move themselves up the table. He said it worked he said you can have 20 autographs now. That is what i did at school. Selfies mike has been getting involved with something it is a really lovely piece. Frame football is a version of the sport in which players can use a metal frame to help them beat their opponents and score a winning goal. It was created to help youngsters with Cerebral Palsy and other physical impairments get involved in sport. Mike has been to meet some of the children giving it a go. This is what football used to be like for logan watching his brother play from the sidelines, but unable to do so himself, because he relies on a frame to get around. He kept asking his mum why he could not play. So she contacted parents of other youngsters with Cerebral Palsy and then, after a day working on a plan with fa coaches at st georges park, the game of frame football was born. Good turn logans skills with the football have improved to such an extent he can now even do the rinaldo chop. Look at that as he turns on a sixpence, and hes back. Hes getting very competitive. But these sessions have turned this team into one of the best in the country after winning competitions against teams from right across the uk, sometimes the world, but also, crucially, theyre really helped them develop their skills and mobility skills in everyday life, as we see arthur running up for the ball now. Just gives him a bit of exercise, it strengthened him up. Just about being with your friends as well. It gives them a sense of being independent, like say, the big thing isjust being the same as their friends. Are you going to try and beat me . Yeah. Be gentle with him, though, wont ya . Yeah. Whats your best bit . My shooting. Your shootings the best bit . Yes. Do you have a hard shot . 0h he has beaten me on the far post. What is your best bit . Playing the match. Scoring goals . Yeah. Well let you go and score some. Yeah. Well done. What i want you to do is bring the balls into the middle. There are now frame football teams competing in all the home nations, and its spread abroad, too. It is basically 5 a side football, but with those added frames, which can be used to hit the ball. It is absolute carnage out there. Its a really, really fierce game. Itjust gives us a chance to be like the rest of us. I mean, however life has set us back, we can always play football, and that is what the Frame Football Association is let us doing. Yes they are developing their co ordination, balance is huge in this as well, so when theyre trying to turn, so theyre developing strength, theyre getting the body moving in ways they probably wouldnt if they werent up and about moving, and everyone loves football. Oh, itjust put a smile on my face every other sunday. Wheres the goalkeeper . I did my best to keep the score down, but there was no way i was getting stuck in the middle of all of those crunching tackles as the beautiful game opens up to a whole new team. Mike bushell, bbc news. I love him saying it was carnage. Also the fund it brings there is life. You can see it in his face. He loves it stop all our weather presenters love theirjob. How are you, ben . Ido i do love it, even this time in the morning. You may not love the Weather Forecast quite so much over the next couple of days if youre a fan of summerwarmth, the next couple of days if youre a fan of summer warmth, that is, thats because the temperatures are going to be heading downwards. Thats because the temperatures are going to be heading downwardsm does look a little bit like summer for some of us this morning, not a bad start to the day yet for a weather watcher in essex, but there isa weather watcher in essex, but there is a marine further north and west. The renal suite is with sterile parts today and behind that you will notice a much cooler field. This parts today and behind that you will notice a much coolerfield. This is the satellite picture, this beautiful strap of cloud that is already bringing a lot of rain across North Western areas, that band of cloud and rain is now move eastwards and behind it, well, were going to start to see some much cooler air pushing and from the north west, those orange colours a distant memory getting into the yellow, even some blue colours spreading across the chart. We have some blue on this chart as well but this is rain and plenty of it through this morning. 9am, still very wet across scotland and windy as well. We could see gusts of 40 45 mild an hour, but rain now showing signs of clearing away in North Eastern Northern Ireland, should be brighter, so is starting to develop. This narrow band of fairly heavy rain across north west england and wales dangling into the south west and east, we have some mist around at the moment which will tend to clear. Some sunny spells as well but this band of cloud and rain will be on the move eastwards throughout the day, across england and wales. Rain intending to visit as it goes, not making it to east anglia until the middle part of the afternoon. Rain becoming confined to the north east of scotland, elsewhere is a mixture of sunny spells and showers with some of those hours could be heavy and hungry. Winds generally easing it will be coming down to the north west of the afternoon so it will you will considerably cooler and fresher heavy and thundery. And we will see some clear spells tonight, many of us getting down into single digits, may be down to six or seven degrees in places. Some of the big towns and cities holding up of the big towns and cities holding up at ten or 11 but a fresh start to tomorrow. Still some showers blowing in on the north westerly wind into Northern Ireland and scotland, still the odd heavy one. Im sure i was getting into parts of northern england, maybe east anglia as well. But the further south you are, more dry weather. Just remember, a few days ago we were up into the 30s, tomorrow, 21 degrees in london, maybe 12 in aberdeen. And sunday night looks particularly chilly as this ridge of High Pressure builds in and the winds fall fairly light. As we going to next week, its a fairly mixed pattern. We will see some rain at times, dry weather too, you see those temperatures considerably lower than they have been, teens for some maybe, in the parts of the south. Temperatures, heading downwards. Heading down thats not good. Thanks ben, see unibet. Right, its time for news whats with the mirror ahmed. Now its time for newswatch with samira ahmed. Hello and welcome to newswatch with me samira ahmed. Uproar at the Prime Ministers plan to suspend parliament. But did bbc news reflect fairly the nations response to the move . And with Climate Change higher than ever on the news agenda, is it time for bbc Weather Reports to stop treating rising temperatures as something to celebrate . Politicaljournalists have been expecting a busy autumn but anyone still hoping to have had a holiday this week will have had their plans scuppered by the announcement that parliament would be suspended early next month. In the hours after the news broke, with government interviews hard to come by, bbc news interviewed a number of opponents of a no deal brexit, such as anna soubry, prompting mrs pat perry to write and this phone caller who rang on monday evening also felt the decision wasnt quite such a bombshell as was being portrayed. Phone caller the bbc is still not making it clear that the Political Parties right through this year and regularly every year, parliament does not operate during Political Party conferences. The number of extra days is relatively few. But, as ever with brexit, there was another side to the story with some people objecting to the balance of opinions on display in vox pops featured on the bbc news website and also on television reports such as this from Stratford Upon Avon on wednesdays news at six. Its sad that this little corps of politicians who didnt like what we, the public, voted for, have thrown their rattles out off the pram and caused all this fuss. And ijust think boris is absolutely right. Teresa reynolds had this response. Well certainly be returning to that argument in the next few weeks but in the meantime weve also had some response to the coverage of the Notting Hill Carnival which took place last weekend. Dot childs felt that bbc news approached story in the wrong way, e mailing. Now, Summer Holidays for many people are positively defined by sunshine and heat and there was plenty of both around for most of the country on monday. It was the hottest Late August Bank Holiday on record as the news at six reported. News report its a day which ended for sunburn for some and plenty of sand in the car, too. But Bank Holidays dont get much better or hotter than this. Richard lister, bbc news, frinton on sea. So, is it going to last . Lets ask philip avery. Hi, phil. Hi, jane, thanks very much. More pictures, if you can bear them, of people enjoying themselves at the seaside and with the sort of temperatures weve been seeing, no wonder so many have followed the tradition and headed for the coast. But monday paled into insignificance next to julys heatwave which also featured prominently on bbc news at the time. Record breaking temperatures bring intense heat and travel chaos to britain. Thousands flocked to the beaches as temperatures peaked at 38. 1dc, making it the hottestjuly day since records began. That day, the 25th ofjuly, was in fact later confirmed as the hottest day ever recorded in the uk and it had started with this tweet being posted by bbc weather, anticipating the possible breaking of that record. Carolyn heitmeyer thought the tweet deeply irresponsible, writing. That opinion was echoed by other viewers and this week, Cathy Sisterson recorded her thoughts for us on bbc Weather Reporting when the temperatures are escalating. When we see the bbc Weather Forecast, so often, weve had three record breaking days at least this year. One in february and the hottest day ever recorded in july, and then the hottest august bank holiday just recently, and too often i think these are almost celebrated on the Weather Forecast. Like, you know, if were going to reach the hottest day, todays the day, and things like this. We can all enjoy a summers day but i think some sort of context needs to be shown, else were all going to be lulled into a sense of complacency that yes, we can just enjoy this record breaking heat without any consequences. Cathy sisterson there. Well, as talking about the weather is supposedly a national pastime, its no surprise that its long been one of the most watched and scrutinised parts of bbc output. From a fairly basic start, bbc weather has changed significantly over the years, in terms of presentation, technological sophistication and accuracy. With we know now about Climate Change, is it time, under a new boss, that its attitude to high temperatures changed too . And to answer that, lets speak to the recently appointed head of bbc weather adam bullimore. Thank you for coming on newswatch. Can we start with that tweet aboutjuly the 25th breaking the record on temperatures, todays the day. Did it to strike the right tone . I think it would be wrong to categorise our coverage of that day just through that tweet. There was extensive coverage from bbc weather on everything from the climate context to the impact on transport, Environment Health and so on. So i think its unfair to look at the coverage just through the tweet. I think there is something about tone, there was an unintended consequence of framing it in that way, yes. Some viewers are concerned that Climate Change isnt taken seriously enough and that atweet like that appears to celebrate extreme temperatures. It sounds like youre acknowledging that perhaps it could be seen that way. Yeah, i think theres a real danger in cheerleading extreme events. But the bbc does take Climate Change very seriously. Ive got a team of Weather Forecasters who are absolute experts in weather and theirjob is to explain the relationship between weather and climate and i think they do a very good job of giving audiences some context and understanding of the bigger picture. And obviously on that day, there was awareness that it was potentially going to break the record so there was a sense of acknowledging that. It would be fair to say, though, i think, that in general, bbc weather presenters talk about sun as a good thing, rain as a bad thing. Thats certainly the sense we get from the viewers who are concerned. I think its about context and i think weather presenters do offer context. They dont simply frame things around good and bad. I think any presenter who does learns pretty quickly that thats not how audiences see things. Somebody being unhappy about sunshine, therell be somebody else who is, so weather presenters certainly do take care around their language. It was interesting seeing that bit of the news report on august bank holiday, going into the Weather Report and the whole tone of it and the handover, it was presented as brilliant weather, and as i think we really understand, some viewers say we have to just see things in a different way, even if there are equally viewers who just want to know, is it going to be a nice august bank holiday . How do you deal with that tension . I think theres something in that and reframing how we make pieces about weather extremes, i think we do need to think about whether we structure our pieces in the way that we might traditionally have done, whether we use the traditional imagery. Think about pictures harder, where we start and finish our storytelling, is something were reflecting on and the weather team will be working on that. So its something youre thinking about and that might mean do we see images of people at at the beach when were talking about extreme temperatures being not so much an aberration but potentially part of a pattern. Does it imply that you might need to come up with new language or a new policy . Might we see changes then about how extreme weather is reported . Especially in terms of high temperatures. I think there is something to think about around heat in particular, yes. And whether we need to come up with a more sophisticated way of describing the impact of heat, i think in tv and radio bulletins, presenters can talk around that. Perhaps online and in the app, we need to find ways of offering a little bit more detail. Funny you talk about detail and how weather presenters do it on television. One thing we do get a lot from newswatch viewers about is the sense that weather presenters put a lot of themselves into their television reports in particular, and some viewers say, you know what, id just like the facts please. Do they have a point . I think in the tv bulletins, the radio bulletins, theres not much time to put a lot of themselves into it. I think in programmes such as breakfast and in the 6 30 news programmes, those whether presenters are big figures in those shows and i dont think theres anything wrong, i think the audience expects them to be 3 dimensional. But its all about context and not allowing personality to get in the way of the Key Information and the key detail youre trying to get across. Adam bullimore, thank you very much. Thank you for all your comments this week. Please do get in touch with your opinions about what you see on bbc tv news, online or bbc social media. You may even get to appear on the programme.
