If the uk remains aligned with the European Union on those issues, then it will still be unable to import those us goods, so the uk will have to break from the European Union on a lot of regulatory issues if it hopes to really have a robust trade relationship with the united states, so we are all waiting to see what brexit looks like and how closely aligned does the uk remain with the European Union. New 3d baggage scanners will be introduced at every airport in the uk by 2022, under government plans announced today. Ministers say the technology will cut queues, boost security and will mean passengers will no longer have to remove laptops and liquids from their luggage as its screened. Laptops must be put in a separate tray. Airports in some countries, particularly america, are already starting to use new, high tech scanners for hand luggage. Heathrow in london is investing £50 million in similar equipment, saying it could remove the needs for liquids and electricals to be taken out. It will be much quicker, less disruptive, not having to take things out of bags, and people will be able to get on their way much more quickly. But it will also bring more security, which is really important. Now, all uk airports are being told they must have advanced 3d scanners by 2022. It is important we are using the best technology, we will have the best in the world once this is rolled out. 0ne travel expert says passengers will notice a difference. Imagine this you are at security, you have forgotten to take out all your stuff, so that means your bag full of liquids, then you have your computer, and maybe a telephone. You have to take it all out and put each one and a separate tray. All of that takes time. Even though we say to ourselves, im ready, by the time we get the security most of us realise that we are not ready and there is a lot of faffing that takes place. Heathrow believes the new technology could make going through security up to 60 times faster. But introducing it could be a challenge for smaller airports. But those who will not be outside, will be stuck in airport queues, how will that process change, do you hope, with the scanners . It will change right from home because you wont have to work out which liquids you need to try to fit into 100 millimetres size containers at the airport. There wont be that area where you wont have to to pick up plastic bags. When you get to the scanner itself, and this is hand luggage we are talking about here, you will not have to take out your laptop or your phone. I went to see this all that heathrow this week. In this experimental line, they were saying, leave that stuff in the bag. The line was travelling through much, much faster. It enables people to get through faster. Plus, when you look at the security side, it is much, much safer. You can take the bag and turn it around on the screen and sly set like a ct scanner, it is therefore much better for security, as well. So it does not take away the need for cheques, but they need not be so intrusive. I suppose at times they would need to test what is in the bottle. Thats exactly it. I saw on the screens that happening almost automatically, it was flagging up things that they wanted to have two search icon. They can actually tell what liquids are in there. Because they can turn it round and sliced it, they can see what the battery is made of, all this kind of stuff. The flow of people through means that in future, the queues will be much lower, much faster for security i think it is an important signal as we leave europe on the 31st of october that businesses open, that you can get in and out very quickly. It will be a popular thing when introduced. You are talking about by the end of 2022, but that is for major airports. Presumably, the smaller airports. Presumably, the smaller airports will need to stick with what they have. Presumably, it is just prohibitively expensive for them. They are enormously expensive machines. The key reason is for security. We have mandated all of the major airports, i suspect a lot of the other airports will do it as well, but almost all of the people go through those major airports. The vast majority will go through there. It will start to come in much sooner. It will start to come in much sooner. For the time being, please do turn up to the airport ready for the traditional type of cheques. If youre lucky enough to find one of those queues, that is great, but dont expect it.
