Good morning, welcome to breakfast with Steph Mcgovern and charlie stayt. Our headlines today continue to question ten people. Labour warns of a retail apocalypse as it calls for action to tackle empty shops. Hollywood actor peter fonda, who starred in the cult movie easy rider, has died aged 79. In the cricket at lords, there should be Better Weather for england today. After more rain on day three, they say they need to get australia out by lunch to have a good chance of winning the second ashes test. After they washed out yesterday the weekend is looking a little more promising, sunshine and showers, but quite windy at times, too. Promising, sunshine and showers, but quite windy at times, too. Its saturday 17th august. Our top story. Detectives investigating the killing of a Police Officer in berkshire have sealed off a nearby caravan site. Pc Andrew Harper, who only got married four weeks ago, died after he was dragged along by a vehicle as he was attending reports of a burglary. Our correspondent simon jones is at the scene. Simon, what more do we know . Well, still a big Police Presence here at the scene. This is very much an ongoing crime scene. The site of the boat has been cordoned off. Take a look at the other side, dutch road is also short, too. We understand pc harper was dragged by a vehicle from that side of the road to the side of the road. He was investigating a report of able burglary with a colleague at the time. The police have not given great details to what they believe happened, as they say they believe happened, as they say they do not want to jeopardise the investigation. We do know that ten people had been arrested on suspicion of murder. By age between 13 and 13. We know a nearby caravan parkis 13 and 13. We know a nearby caravan park is also being investigated by the police. There have been lots of tributes to pc harper, the Prime Minister has described what happened here is brutal and senseless. His colleague said they are shocked and saddened and in the past minutes we saw a Police Officer arrived here bringing some flowers. He handed them over to the officers behind me, looking very upset. This is hit the force very hard, because they are investigating the death of one of their own. In terms of the investigation, we are expecting an update later on this morning from Thames Valley police. They are keen to really, they do not want people to really, they do not want people to speculate what happened, but they wa nt to to speculate what happened, but they want to hear from witnesses or anybody who captured anything important. Still very much an ongoing crime scene here at this morning. Labour has warned that high streets are facing a retail apocalypse and has announced proposals to tackle the number of empty shops. Lets talk to our Political CorrespondentTony Bonsignore tony, tell us more about labours plans. Morning, charlie. This will be announced in more detail by the labour leaderJeremy Corbyn. What he wa nts to labour leaderJeremy Corbyn. What he wants to do is take those shops that have been empty, boarded up for 12 months or more, and a testament of around 29,000 of those shops across the uk, and allow local authorities to seize them, effectively. Take them over and turn them into, for example, start up firms, cooperative businesses and Even Community projects. Labour says radical action ideasis projects. Labour says radical action ideas is absolutely essential ever going to about what they say is a retail apocalypse. Many of our high street eventually turning into ghost towns. As you can imagine, the conservatives are not impressed with this, at all. They say the plan will actually do more boarded up shops, because it will lead to lower investment in our high streets. They had their own plan at the moment, called the future high street fund. They are ploughing around £175 million into their plan to try and set the high street. For the moment, thank you. A postmortem examination has determined that the death of the disgraced us financier Jeffrey Epstein was suicide. The chief medical Examiners Office said that epstein, who was found dead in his cell in manhattan a week ago, had hanged himself. 0ur washington correspondent Chris Buckler has more. A postmortem examination was carried out last weekend, the details were not immediately released. Which led toa not immediately released. Which led to a flurry of stories and speculation in the us media. The Washington Post at one stage reported that one of the bones broken in his neck was more consistent of a case of somebody being strangled in a case of hanging however, that is not always true in the cases of older men. The new york medical Examiners Office said they are convinced and determined that he died asa are convinced and determined that he died as a result of a suicide. However, there are still many questions about the circumstances of his death. Particularly about irregularities at the present itself, and also questions about why he was taken off suicide watch just days after an earlier attempt to kill himself. The Us Department of justice is also pursuing enquiries into some of epsteins associates, who they believe abused and groomed underage girls. Chinas ambassador to britain has warned therell be military intervention in hong kong should further clashes arise between police and pro democracy activists. As protests continue on the island today, the local police force say they are capable of maintaining law and order. Werejoined from hong kong by our china correspondent stephen mcdonell. We saw earlier at some of the protesters walking behind you. Still very much a lot going on there, isnt there . Yes, absolutely. The teachers rally has just finished. Thousands of teachers marched three the streets in support of their students, participating in the Pro Democracy Movement. It was very peaceful and went ahead that any clashes with the police. The police we re clashes with the police. The police were standing beside the rally as it poured past them. Many in the pro democracy camp are trying to keep things pretty piece of this weekend. I think there was a lot of shop of the images of the clashes at the airport earlier this week. Especially that Police Officer going down, being bashed with his own truncheon and having to pull out his Service Revolver in order to push people back. Several rallies this weekend have open given some degree of permission. Well see how that holds, because in the past protesters have been given permission to march along a satin bit and then they break away and strike a Police Station and start throwing bricks at it or pulls or something, this is when those battles break out. Apart and that, there is an awareness amongst certain people in the Pro Democracy Movement that they do not want to see that. Because that means trips, paramount gps coming across the border and we must be in a whole new ball game there. Thank you, stephen. Peter fonda, star of the 1969 cult classic, easy rider has died at the age of 79. His family said he passed away peacefully at his home in los angeles after suffering from lung cancer. 0ur correspondent, peter bowes takes a look back at his career. Easy rider, the cult classic. In a statement, his family said they were mourning the loss of a sweet and gracious man who had an indomitable spirit and love of life. Jane funder said he was his sweet hearted baby brother and went out laughing. Jane fonda. Back to our top story now and the death of pc Andrew Harper who was killed while attending a reported burglary. Matthew barber is the Deputy Police and crime commissioner for Thames Valley he joins us now from the scene. Thank you for your time this morning. First i should ask a if you can update us in any sense about the investigation, the scale of what is going on . We can see some of the scene behind you. I cannot offer anything new with concern to the investigation, obviously there will be an update from the force as new backs emerge. But i think we should be focused on bringing those responsible to justice. Be focused on bringing those responsible tojustice. I certainly not want to say anything to compromise that investigation or any potential prosecution. We have woken up potential prosecution. We have woken up this morning again i think control is to andrews family. Many of us heard the newsjenna dyas today and i think it tetchy first thing in the morning when you realise once again his family have open up without him. It has been a huge shock to them and indeed the force and Police Family across the country. What assistance of the police able to get the family at this time . Obviously, they will have specially trained officer to support them and there is wider support across the board from the officers who worked with him. It is been very moving how people from across the Police Community and members of the public across the country have reached out to offer their condolences. That really matters at a time at this. Just apologise to people at home, because it is quite noisy with the vehicles passing by. A major road, what can you tell us about pc Andrew Harper . He was 28 yea rs old about pc Andrew Harper . He was 28 years old and now people are familiar with the fact that it only got married very recently. Yes, absolutely. Tragic circumstances, this isnt awful incident anyway but made even more poignant by the fact that Andrew Harper had onlyjust got married. Speaking to people who knew him well in the force, he is was a very popular officer. I have had comments from the members of the publicly and he had helped. 0ne woman in particular his texan mind says that he was the one who gave her the courage to come forward and press charges in a case of domestic abuse. He is clearly a man who, in his short period of time, touched many lives. He has been an exemplary Police Officer. It is a time where, iam sure, Police Officer. It is a time where, i am sure, officers, but also the wider public without any risk that space officers taken everyday work. That conversation must be one that looms large amounts Police Services right now . Absolutely, i think we should remember that every time a Police Officer puts on a uniform they put themselves in harms way to protect public. We should be eternally grateful for that. 0bviously, eternally grateful for that. Obviously, as part of the investigation into this we will look to save any more can be done to protect our officers on the front line. But their safety is at the four. We should always remember, when it is danger, they run towards it, whilst everybody else runs away from it. We should be hugely grateful for the risk they put themselves in. Thank you very much for your time this morning. Just to repeat apologies for the noise from the road. Nothing we could do about that unfortunately. Vacant units and boarded up shop fronts are an all too common sight on high streets across the uk. So with the number of empty shops at its highest in four years what can be done to solve the problem . Labour wants to give councils the power to reopen shops. Lets speak to the shadow housing ministerjohn healey who is in our sheffield studio. Thank you forjoining us this morning. It is something i have been covering this week in the business needs, one in ten shops is empty in town centres across the uk. How do you plan to change that . Indeed, exactly. More shops are empty for longer in many of our high streets in town centres. Because those are pa rt in town centres. Because those are part of the identity, as well as the economic lifeblood of those areas, we need to be able to get them reopens, bring new life back to the streets. This is a plan to give councils the plan to step in where landlords will simply not play ball and will not do anything with the long term empty shops to say all right, let us manage them. Let us get businesses, community projects, cooperative businesses, let us get activity and people back into those shops. Back into those units and back into the high streets. So, you wa nt back into the high streets. So, you want councils to be able to decide if businesses can open a shop that had been empty for more than 12 months. But what does that mean . Will they be getting them for free . How does that work with other businesses that are been around for longer and are not getting the free space . I was going to work . The detail of how it will work will be settled in consultation. We are proposing as a starter anything that has been vacant for more than 12 Months Council should be working with those landlords and owners to try and get fresh either retail or other businesses and activity into the shops. Where they will not co operate, we need councils with the back up power to say ok, we will manage these premises in the meantime. We will make sure they are used and it is part and parcel of stopping, i think, used and it is part and parcel of stopping, ithink, that used and it is part and parcel of stopping, i think, that downward spiral that we often see with boarded up shops and premises in the town centres. But essentially, this is about money and commercial viability. Landlords are not charges, how they going to be convinced to let people use them if they have not been proven to be commercially viable over the previous 12 month . Labour government 15 years ago, when we brought something in summer to deal with long term empty dwellings, is that landlords, when councils had this power and take this interest, if you like, they will often cooperate. You can get coordination with the owner of such property in order to get it reused. Similar things should work with shop units and if necessary we wa nt with shop units and if necessary we want councils to be able to say ok, you will not do it, we were and manage these premises. We have be elected and contain arrangement with you. But we will make sure we have this activity in our high street and oui this activity in our high street and our town centres. It is part of a much bigger plan, it is not the single answer. Part of the bigger plan must obviously involve stopping the expansion of chargeable cash machines, stopping Bank Closures in many town centres and villages. Free bus travel, particularly for under 25 is stop and also to see free public wi fi in town centres, which many of our good mac labour councillors are already doing. Looking at the bigger political picture at the moment, brexit is still the big issue that many politicians are dealing with. Theres a lot of chatter around what would happen if there is a vote of no confidence in the government after recess. We have heard Jeremy Corbyn say he collates a government of National Unity as a caretaker Prime Minister. This does not look likely, though, does . We have had joe went swenson say that she would reject this. What are your thoughts on what could happen . Bags it is the big issue, but the big grave threat as they thrashed out no deal brexit. Brexit is the big issue. That has got to be the biggest challenge for all of a sudden we had done since the 2017 election to lead the arguments on the all Party Majority in parliament to stop that no deal. But it need to plan and how to do it, so that is what we have let out this week. A plan to halt the threat ofa this week. A plan to halt the threat of a new deal to put an end to the disarray and deep disorder in government and the failure of brexit and is about the chance to decide what should happen in a general election. So, it would be a question ofa election. So, it would be a question of a caretaking government, short term, single purpose, with the job stopping the new deal brexit and allowing people the chance, if you like, to pass judgment allowing people the chance, if you like, to passjudgment on allowing people the chance, if you like, to pass judgment on the government, but also decide and elect a fresh parliament. Would you be happy with Kenneth Clarke as a ca reta ker be happy with Kenneth Clarke as a caretaker Prime Minister . No, of course. The leader of the main opposition has got to be the option for a caretaker government. There are 2117 labourmps, for a caretaker government. There are 2117 labour mps, 1a lib dems, you cannot have detail wagging the dog in that way. It is clear that the basis for any cross Party Majority for stopping no deal and mapping a way forward must rest with, based on and led by the labour leader and the labour party. Thank you very much for your time this morning. Heres thomas with a look at this mornings weather. Today the weather is looking much better. Not a completely dry day, blustery showers in the forecast. Certainly expect some showers across scotla nd certainly expect some showers across scotland and Northern Ireland. I think in england and wales it is looking a lot dry and brighter. So, here at the weather should be absolutely fine. They weather front is out of the way, no pressure is driving our weather, notjust today, but tomorrow and into next week, as well. Itll be a time before this whole weather system pulls away. Even then, it does not look like the weather is going to change an awful lot. So, today, certainly a good chance of the showers across scotla nd chance of the showers across scotland and Northern Ireland. For the south, i would probably rest get a not taken umbrella. Risk it for a biscuit i think is the saying. Gusts of wind around the western coast, probably around a0 miles an hour. 22 in london, high teens in the north and take on the showers. This evening in scotland and Northern Ireland frequent, strong winds and gales about because for a time in the south. It should be clear. Saturday night across the southern half of england and most of wales looking dry. Spot of rain for a time in the south east first thing on sunday morning. It is just to be flirting with kent and sussex. It will not be around for very long. By the morning it should be out of the way. Here it is, you can see it as across germany. Literally just sliding to the south of us. For the noise, sunshine and showers. Certainly some possible in belfast, glasgow and edinburgh. A bit in between here across yorkshire, the la ke between here across yorkshire, the Lake District and wales just a couple of sprinkles on sunday. Monday, that no pressure is still with us. A slow mover, but also very big. It will be taking its weather away from us, but in its wake you can see the windsors doubling of the atla ntic can see the windsors doubling of the atlantic and blowing in some showers into ireland and scotland and some in the north west. The further south and east you are the better the weather will be a monday. Medal of all this, these temperatures little bit disappointing. It is technically, statistically still a very warm time of the year. Fingers crossed that he wants a warm weather, something woman is coming oui weather, something woman is coming our way. Probably not until september, i guess. Enke thomas. Broadcaster ian collins is here to tell us, whats caught his eye. Let us start with a levels. Make a level week this week. Usually the pictures of students jumping up and down with joy etc. I think this is very disturbing actually, 22 drop in student studying english literature. The theory behind this is that students now are going for exams and decrees that they think will be specific to the job they might want. Of course, largely speaking a lot of employers ijust saying you need a degree. Does not matter what it is in, it is just a shifting process. Is this picture an a level student whos been told of bya a level student whos been told of by a parent or something . Yes, you will study james joyce. I think by a parent or something . Yes, you will studyjamesjoyce. I think it is quite tragic. It always sounds a little bit arty or something, let at the beauty of literature and the importance of it. All the other connotation, whether it is historic 01 connotation, whether it is historic or whatever it is. Put it altogether, would argue that this is one of the most important exams you can do. I think a lot of students might regret in years to come not studying english literature. Might regret in years to come not studying english literaturem might regret in years to come not studying english literature. It is that point you make about now employers want more career based learning, as well. I was doing a stop story this week about how my teenagers are doing more vocational courses. Which is great. I had on radio shows coating in many times on this. Coming from a working class background as i do, too, that does not get mentioned enough. You do not hear that enough. If he looks like it could be a good hairdresser or whatever it happens to be, follow that dream, as well as there is nothing wrong with that. However, the idea that we would give up on something as important as literature and all that goes with it, i would imagine, iam and all that goes with it, i would imagine, i am the academic, i would guess that the additional uses and benefits of doing a degree like english literature. You just want to mix, dodgy . What, one of the things that is paramount is can i get a job it is . And you would possibly argue if you are doing a physics degree or you are doing a vocational thing that is an avenue there that is less obvious. Of course. It was make sense if you know really where you are going. Which comes back to career advice and skills, maybe that needs to be pa rt and skills, maybe that needs to be part of this. Anyway, let us move on to the next thing. Stamp duty. This is interesting. Sajid javid considering switching the burden of stamp duty from the buyer to the seller. It is always been curious one stamp duty. They monkey around with it every now and again and change the grading system as to what point he pay x amount of percentage etc. How many people and they are walking out of the house they sit there, they have said that the deposit and then you say and the sad duty . 0h, deposit and then you say and the sad duty . Oh, i forgot deposit and then you say and the sad duty . 0h, iforgot the stamp deposit and then you say and the sad duty . Oh, i forgot the stamp that is another £12,000 will stop quite an expensive deal. This is one way of heading of the huge disproportion of profits people have made in their home. The idea that you make 350,000 quid on your home when you have got to give up15 quid on your home when you have got to give up 15 grand event in stamp duty should be heard. Youre going to be playing one way or another. Probably it is a hard pill to swallow when you are first buying. Correct. It is First Time Buyers and people who want to upsize. The reality of taxes they have to raise xamount reality of taxes they have to raise x amount every single year and it is just a curious merry go round game as to how they do it. One of the things that really annoys people is when food portions get smaller, so chocolates buyers or anything like that. And then you have got greggs. Hero to zero in some sense. First they bring the vegan sausage roll, with incredible success. Then we are hearing, andi with incredible success. Then we are hearing, and i have no problem with this, they are having the size of the custard slices. So that youre not consuming as much sugar. But the whole thing is smaller . The price is the same. It does beg the question, why would she want to eat a custard slice . Do gaming just generally . I like custard on apple campbell, i do not want to eat clustered in a pastry. On apple crumble. Not want to eat clustered in a pastry. On apple crumble. There is less of it. It is not all custard, there is pastry involved as well they have halved it, supposedly because there is sugar and assist us in ourjourney to consent less of the sweet stuff. Greggs says this supports our decision to support the sugar reduction programme. Half the size of something, keep it at the same price. I should have been an economist, really. Talking about. Kids wanted to are doctor martens, it became a real big fashion thing. They went right out of fashion and of course they are back in the last sort of half decade or so. Sales have tripled. Before you get the romantic idea that there are lots of industrious. It is still a British Company in its heart, if you like. They are hoping in the next five yea rs they are hoping in the next five years to go to the £1 billion mark. It isa years to go to the £1 billion mark. It is a very iconic brand, if you like, great piece of british fashion. I remember the time but they were not in fashion, but perhaps that says more about me than fashion. They are originally from germany and they were made for factory workers and poster workers. Iam factory workers and poster workers. I am without dr martens, maybe i should go back and select myself one of those larry numbers you can get. It isa of those larry numbers you can get. It is a reminder of keeping a close of your past, because they welcome background again. I have noticed that in sportswear, some of the sportswear that i have a some he background and it is trendy. What about tank tops . Have they come back in . For some. Before you go, can we talk about this toilet in hold . In hull. This is the toilet. Lonely planet or sergi should come here. Top 500 places in the uk, this is one of them. I am from scunthorpe, so one of them. I am from scunthorpe, so any chance to throw some lavatorial humour in the direction of hull is normally most welcome. What you make of that toilet . Can recede inside of it again . Can we do that again . As a destination point. If i was going to hull, that looks like a standout. Do not be cheeky. It is a nice building, look at that. Well, there you go. Apparently coachloads turn up to go and look at it. Thanks to all the people who sent us in the pictures. If you have arrival toilets you would like to send us. Liverpool, apparently. The liverpool philharmonic has a fab toilet, apparently. Stay with us, headlines coming up. Hello, this is breakfast with Steph Mcgovern and charlie stayt. A summary of this mornings main news detectives investigating the killing of a Police Officer in berkshire have sealed off a nearby caravan site. The United States has made a last ditch attempt to prevent the release of an Iranian Oil Tanker seized by Royal Marines last month in gibraltar. Ajudge in gibraltar ruled on thursday that the vessel could leave, if assurances were given that the cargo would not be delivered to syria, but now the Usjustice Department has issued a warrant to seize the tanker, which is still at anchor. Nasa says its planning to send a female astronaut to the moon for the first time. The Us Space Agency says the artemis lunar project will be based in alabama and they will aim to complete the mission by 202a. The estimated cost could be as high as £2a billion. Now the sport. Australia will resume on 80 a this morning, 178 behind englands first innings total. We only got a morning session on day three, but that was enough forjofra archer to get his first test wicket. Play was abandoned late in the afternoon, but the forecast is better for the weekend. There could be quite an interesting and intriguing game left in this test match. 0ur bowling units aim is to get the next six wickets by lunch, and then i suppose ideally bat until an hour or an hour and a half before lunch on day five, trying to force a result that way. Were only three games into the new season in the championship, but already one side relegated from the premier League Last Season have sacked their manager. Huddersfield town lost yet again last night, 2 1 to fulham, another side back in the second tier, and that was the end forjan siewert, who had managed only one win in his seven months in charge. After they failed to reach the Champions League group stage in midweek, celtic turn their attentions to the Scottish League cup this afternoon when they host dunfermline. Hearts are already through to the quarterfinals, thanks to a 2 1victory over motherwell last night in absolutely atrocious weather conditions at fir park. All todays fixtures are on the bbc sport website. Weve another busy weekend in the premier league ahead. Football focus and dan walker will be looking ahead to it all from midday. Dan is here in the studio for us. Some exciting matches in store, dan . Yes, it is game week two. We will be talking about manchester united, and tammy abraham, who missed a penalty in the super cup for chelsea and received quite a bit of racist abuse. His manager, frank lampard, has spoken out against that. An interesting topic to discuss. We have these honesty cards on football focus, its been one of my favourite item so far. We have James Madison and ben chilwell from leicester to ask each other the questions. Here isa ask each other the questions. Here is a snippet. What would you be if you want a footballer . As singer, a voice of an angel. What is the weirdest thing a team that has done in your house . Ben had a to at mine. And didnt flush the toilet i knew you were going to try and kill me. That is unacceptable. Taste dictates we dont pursue that any further. I thought we were going to talk about a lovely singing voice. I have been to that nicest toilet in britain, by the way. One other point to discuss, last weekend in the premier league, the most english players starting in the most english players starting in the premier league since 2010. 83 the most english players starting in the premier league since 2010. 83 in total. Is that about Young Players coming through . Is that the success of the england ethic . Also, steve bruce is on the show. We will be live in germany and spain where their season started over this weekends. We are at charlton, healy lee bowyer, he didnt even want to bea lee bowyer, he didnt even want to be a manager, started offjust helping out a friend. Plenty to talk about at midday on bbc one. Did you see the barcelona goal . Steph said worth when she saw that goal. Lets ta ke worth when she saw that goal. Lets take a look at it. There was no lionel messi playing for barcelona on the opening day of the spanish season last night, and no points for them either after this stunning strike from aritz aduriz, who gave athletic bilbao a 1 0 victory. At the age of 38, aduriz will be retiring at the end of the season, although after seeing that, they may not want to let him go. Wales and england continue their preparations for the Rugby World Cup later when they meet in cardiff. Its only six days since england beat wales at twickenham, but head coach eddiejones says they need to be absolutely brutal if they want to win this one. Wales boss Warren Gatland says that defeat to england means his players now have to prove themselves to secure a world cup spot. There is a lot of pressure on those guys on the weekend, because if some of them dont front and dont perform, then theyre opening the door for somebody else. You win last week and win this weekend, and youre pretty much with a sealed, potentially a starting spot for the first game, for the first couple of games, in the world cup. Scotland are in far better shape than they were in the spring and a six nations championship hampered by a string of injuries, they take on france in nice and head coach Gregor Townsend appreaciates the chance these warm up games give, to study how his players perform. The positive about these games as you can focus a lot more about yourself. We havent done that much analysis on france. Theyve changed the Coaching Staff and added people to their Coaching Staff, so they may change the way they play. We just want to make sure that we get our details right, our systems and defence and attack. How we work to win the game, and how our players showed their strengths. Judy murray knew she was in for a hard watch at the cincinnatti masters last night, and in the end she was congratulating elder son jamie and commiserating with his brother, andy. Jamie murray came out on top with his doubles partner neal skupski in the quarterfinals in a really tight three setter against andy murray and feliciano lopez. Andy will switch his focus back to his return to singles now. Hes playing at next weeks atp event in north carolina. Nice to see the brothers embracing. They dont like playing each other. They dont like playing each other. They had a bit of a rivalry when they were younger. Judy congratulating jamie, he is more of a double specialist. Andy murray is on that curve towards possibly playing more of the singles. Nasa says its planning to send a female astronaut to the moon for the first time. Its hoped the mission will take place in 202a, but it could cost up to £2a billion. Lets speak to sue nelson, a science journalist and author, who is in our london newsroom. Thank you forjoining us. It feels like it is about time for this, doesnt it . More than about time the first woman who went into space was in 1963, so its quite astonishing, really that we havent had a return to the moon mission sooner, and certainly a woman. What does it involve, trying to decide who goes, then the training that they have to do . What the head of nasa has said is that the first woman who will be on the moon will be from the nasa astronaut corps. There are about 38 active astronauts, 12 of them are women. You have about another five ready to qualify quite soon. There will be about 17 women. Of those women, they must have already gone to the International Space station. That reduces that number is likely because not all of the active astronauts have yet had a mission. There are some really qualified women there waiting to go, including one of the woman he is currently on the space station at the moment, christina cox. Once they decide who it is will go, im assuming they will pick a group of them and then work from there to train them. What does that training involve . The training will be very similar to what astronauts undergo in order to go on to the International Space station, but what will be additional will be in particular lunar geology training and the fact that youre going for a much further period of time. Quite recently i was at the crater in bavaria where European Space agency astronaut training, former apollo astronauts have trained there, because we have some places on earth that are very like the lunar surface. The geology of them, particularly with impact craters, you train astronauts how to recognise the interesting features, the interesting rocks. Apart from the interesting rocks. Apart from the geology training you have to get used to the fact that when you are on the space station you are in microgravity, so you have that wonderful feeling of floating. Microgravity, so you have that wonderfulfeeling of floating. There is the sixth of gravity on the moon, so is the sixth of gravity on the moon, so you need to adjust your training accordingly. When you go underwater, they often have training in the pool for spacewalks and they have a great pool like this in the states, they have them in europe. They will adjust the weights when you are diving. Tim peake has done this sort of training. Whereas if you were going to the space station they were to the weight so you are floating, here they will adjust the weights to feel as if you have one set gravity. If you do that, you mirror that bounce and movement that astronauts do on the moon, that little kangaroo hopped. It is incredibly good training for the space station and for the moon. It sounds incredible, all the different skills you have to have. You need the knowledge about the geology, as well. I always assumed that weather forecasters would want to go to space. I always assume that. Is that true . I would love to go to space i would absolutely i would love to go to space i would a bsolutely love i would love to go to space i would absolutely love that. Talking about the picture from space, this is what it looks like in the last 12 hours 01 so. It looks like in the last 12 hours or so. You can see it looks like in the last 12 hours 01 so. You can see a it looks like in the last 12 hours or so. You can see a big low pressure here. This is the weather front that brought the rain yesterday. It is out of the way now. The weather front is now across denmark in scandinavia, they are. The weather front is too big it will ta ke the weather front is too big it will take quite a while for it to barrelled through. This is what is happening on saturday. Fine weather for england and where is. It will be gusty with gusts up to a0 miles an hour. I like to see in western scotla nd hour. I like to see in western scotland and northern scotland, gusts could be approaching 50 miles an hour. Frequent showers in the north west, as well. Todays temperatures, up to 22 degrees in england and wales, the high teens in scotla nd england and wales, the high teens in scotland and Northern Ireland. Very blustery with showers on saturday night. England dan wilson is looking fine, it should be clear out there. Notice a bit of rain across kent and sussex. A weather front that is just sliding to the south of us. It will just like with the south coast. The weather tomorrow should be fine across england and wales by the time we get a lunch time. In Northern Ireland and scotland we have lots of showers. The closer you are to the centre of the circulation, low pressure means air is going up and it is creating the showers. That low Pressure Centre is way up in the north around the norwegian sea. That means it is pulling away at showers to the north, but not completely. There will still be some left over in its wake. Monday not a completely dry days. The further south you are, the better. The south coast should be beautiful. 21 in london on monday. We start the week with 16 in the lowlands of scotland. For the week ahead, it does look like the weather will be improving. Southern and eastern areas should be drying out, but for Northern Ireland and scotla nd out, but for Northern Ireland and scotland it will stay a bit more u nsettled. Scotland it will stay a bit more unsettled. Statistically it is still a very hot time of the year, but those temperatures are not really reflecting that. Our weather at the moment stays cool and showery. Thats it for me. Indian administered kashmir has been under an unprecedented lockdown since last week when india ended its special constitutional status dating back nearly 70 years. Telephone networks and the internet have been cut off and public gatherings banned. This has stopped irfanjehangir from communicating with his family in the region. Well speak to irfan now. Kashmir had sat a special status. In 1951 when india negotiate with the kashmiri leadership at that time. When india and pakistan were created, originally they didnt want to join either of them. Due to the political situation, the maharajah, he was not muslim ruling over a muslim majority area, he decided at that time to sign an agreement with them. It only covered. Kashmirwould sign an agreement with them. It only covered. Kashmir would have its own parliament, president , Prime Minister. The wider political picture is very complicated. In the immediate term, many families have no means of finding out what is going on right now. Baby food, food supplies, medicine supplies, we have no information as to what is happening. I knew that those supplies will not last for a long time. You dont have any idea about when you will be able to talk to them again . Absolutely not. I keep trying every day. You must be dead worried. I am. Trying every day. You must be dead worried. Iam. There trying every day. You must be dead worried. I am. There are so many rumours. The rumours just lie worried. I am. There are so many rumours. The rumoursjust lie about that something is happening, people are going into houses. There are extremists u nfortu nately are going into houses. There are extremists unfortunately in the government. We really dont know what is happening. Thank you for joining us this moment. This morning. Her next target is to perform at the World Championships in hungary. 0nly is to perform at the World Championships in hungary. Only then can she start thinking about a paralympic debut. I want to go and enjoy it and put down the best race ican and enjoy it and put down the best race i can and if i can do that then hopefully that will put me in a good position. She is not on the start line of the next phase of her life, just a flat out sprint ahead. The people of greenland were surprised to learn yesterday that preisdent trump is keen on buying the island. How has the story been received . Everybody is talking about it, obviously. I dont think that people are taking it too seriously. We are not a trade, we are a people and we are not for sale. For donald trump to even. Though it is a question over how serious he was, but it is something that seems to be in his mind.
