No suspicion of foul play in the death of teenager nora quorin police in malaysia say there is no indication of violence or abduction. Official figures show there were more than 4,300 drug related deaths in england and wales last year the highest number since records began in 1993. Three a stars. Idid law i did law a star, sociology got an a. Alevel media studies, i got i did law a star, sociology got an a. The biggest dinosaur hunt in decades is taking place in North Wyoming as british scientists help to excavate part of the american desert. Good morning. Welcome to bbc newsroom live. Iam i am rachel schofield. Jeremy corbyn has urged mps to install him as a caretaker Prime Minister to stop a no deal brexit. The labour leader wrote a letter to the leaders of other opposition parties, and tory rebel mps, asking them to back his idea of a temporary government. In the letter, he said. He said he intends to. Table a vote of no confidence at the earliest opportunity when we can be confident of success. He said he would. Then seek the confidence of the house for a strictly time limited temporary government. With the aim of calling a general election and securing an extension of article 50 so that a no deal brexit can be stopped. Heres mr corbyn explaining how his plan would work. How it would work as this, i hope they would all support the motion of iio they would all support the motion of no confidence that i would put and that would ensure this government cannot continue with its headlong pursuit of a no deal brexit, and that would mean a caretaker government, led by labour, which would be a government in order to prevent a no deal brexit and bring about a general election, so the people of this country can decide their future. SoJeremy Corbyn has said he will call a vote of no confidence, where mps will decide whether they want the government to continue. So what happens next . Borisjohnson has a working majority ofjust one including the support of mps from the dup in Northern Ireland. But if he wins the vote of no confidence then the conservative led minority government would remain, and Jeremy Corbyns plan would have failed. But if the Prime Minister loses the no confidence vote, then a 14 day period is triggered, during which the existing government or an alternative one formed must persuade mps to vote for them. There are three scenarios that could occur from here. Firstly, borisjohnsons government somehow regains the confidence of the house, and business continues as usual. Second, an alternative government is formed like the temporary one being suggested byJeremy Corbyn. The new caretaker Prime Minister could decide to delay brexit, and call a general election. But this seems unlikely as theres no clear majority in the house of commons for this alternative government as weve seen with the lib dem leaderjo swinson refusing to back mr corbyn. And no other would be candidate as a caretaker Prime Minister being sure of securing the backing of a majority of mps. Third, if no government has the backing of the house of commons and that critical 14 day period runs out, then a general election is triggered. This would take place at least seven weeks after a no confidence vote. In the meantime, mps could agree to delay brexit this would be possible, but difficult. Alternatively, there may not be a no confidence vote some mps would rather use parliament to stop a no deal brexit. Theyd look to take control of the commons business and amend legislation that would force the government to seek a delay to brexit. Theyd want the government to agree to a brexit extension, or reach a deal with the eu. But theres no guarantee that the government would agree to what the eu proposes making this path similarly difficult. That gives you a flavour, i hope, of the possibly difficult path ahead, and we can talk about this a bit more with nick eardley, our Political Correspondent who is live with us in westminster. A complicated scenario and the politicians today are busy working out which way they might want to go. Yes, i thinkJeremy Corbyns argument is a fairly straightforward one. It is that i am the leader of the opposition party, the biggest single grouping, apart from the conservatives, in parliament, so im the obvious person to take over if that no confidence vote was to pass early in september when mps come back. As you say, though, it seems at the moment that it is an extremely tall orderfor at the moment that it is an extremely tall order for mr corbyn. You have the liberal democrat saying that they dont want to be part of a corbyn led government. You have the snp, yes, saying they are open to the idea but saying they want to look at other options too, like why some conservatives rebels say they are happy to talk to mr corbyn about all the options that could be on the table, and the simple reason is that somejust dont think table, and the simple reason is that some just dont think that, whatever happens, mr corbyn will be able to command a majority in the commons. Lets listen to the lib dems leader, jo swinson. Its about looking at reality as it is, and come you know, we dont have time to muck about here with people because my egos. Of course, yeah, Jeremy Corbyn wants to be Prime Minister, so do i, but what we really need to do now is save our country from a catastrophic no deal brexit, and to do that we need something that will bring people together across the house of commons, and Jeremy Corbyn is not the person to do that. Ive put forward people who i think could do that, who are not from my party. Ken clarke and Harriet Harman. I am very happy to have discussions with Jeremy Corbyn, if you scott of the suggestions of people who could genuinely command that support across the house. Im not precious about the people i have suggested, i wa nt about the people i have suggested, i want to find a solution that works, so want to find a solution that works, so lets get on to that territory of talking about things that might actually deliver what he says he wants to see, which is stopping no deal. Lib dems leaderjo swinson. Jo was coming up with potential caretaker leaders, Harriet Harman and ken clarke, is that a big discussion going on, or does it seem equally unrealistic when one sits and does the maths . I dont think it is the priority, i dont think it is the priority, i dont think it is the priority of mps who are not sure if Jeremy Corbyns plan is going to work is to introduce a piece of legislation at some point when mps return in Early September which would seek to mandate the government, basically tell Boris Johnson you need to go back to brussels and get an extension to the article 50 process if there is not a new deal in place by x date. Now, it isa new deal in place by x date. Now, it is a convoluted process to get there, again no guarantees it will work, but thats been something that rebel conservatives and many from opposition parties have been talking about over the last couple of weeks. The reason they think that will command a majority is it gives tories who dont want to see no deal some cover, yes, to vote against the government without going for the Nuclear Option of bringing it down. There is a kind of second conversation about what happens if borisjohnson conversation about what happens if Boris Johnson says conversation about what happens if borisjohnson says im not going to brussels, you need the Prime Minister to go and ask that extension, what if he says he aint going to do it . Part of that conversation with them be about what you were due to introduce a new government after you have potentially brought down the conservatives. So there are different people being spoken about, yes, Harriet Harman and ken clarke are two of them, there are others in the mix too, none of them leading parties, i should say, they are all either prominent frontbenchers who get on with people from other parties or they are prominent backbenchers. But at the moment i dont think thats the first plan from a lot of people in parliament. The first plan is just to find a device through legislation to try and stop it. Thank you very much indeed. Somebody who might be able to help us with what she has in mind, anna soubry is leader of the independent group for change and didnt receive a letter from Jeremy Corbyn. Is that right, anna soubry . That is right. Would you have liked to have been invited to get behind his campaign . If he is genuine about this being an all party, and bringing people together who believe in stopping no deal but also of course believe in a peoples vote, andl course believe in a peoples vote, and i think thats the other grave concern that certainly i and i believe many others have about what is proposed, is that yet again Jeremy Corbyn is fudging on this incredibly important issue of taking this matter now back to the british people because its the only way forward. So you feel from what you have read of that letter that there is not enough of a guarantee that the second referendum would be forthcoming under his plan . Yeah, i think we all have to be very clear about this. Jeremy corbyn is a brexiteer, Jeremy Corbyn wants us to leave the European Union and that of course is a fundamental failing of his. The other failing that he has is the inability to even unite his owfi is the inability to even unite his own party. We know that he doesnt command a majority within the parliamentary labour party, never mind being able to ring together in the way that some of us who have argued for a government of National Unity now for some time think that that can work. But it has to have that can work. But it has to have that purpose of taking this matter back to the british people with remain on the ballot paper, and at the moment that is certainly not his intention. But i think it is meaningless. I think it is a ruse, it has got him some publicity but basically at its heart it is dishonesty and the one thing that the british people are now crying out for, apart from leadership, his honesty about the real crisis we are in on the genuine options that are available to us as a nation. One person who some might say has spoken very honestly this morning, jo swinson, leader of the lib dems first up youre not fancying a change to go and put your horse in front of that cart . No, if i had wanted tojoin front of that cart . No, if i had wanted to join the front of that cart . No, if i had wanted tojoin the lib dems i would have joined them when i left my party back in february when i left the conservative party. I have worked withjo swinson the conservative party. I have worked with jo swinson in government of course, in the coalition government, and im very proud of that and i consider her a friend. Im delighted that she is the leader of the liberal democrats and i believe that she has many of the qualities that are needed in a Prime Ministerand qualities that are needed in a Prime Minister and indeed at this moment of profound political crisis. But the independent group for change very much offers something that adds to that centrist movement. For many social democratic labour types, like chris leslie and mike yates, who are amongst the five member parliament, thatis amongst the five member parliament, that is why they didnt join the lib dems, it is a different tradition, but we are all of that centrist movement, which is the future for out movement, which is the future for our country, and which is where we absolutely need to be. And of course we all believe that our country has made a mistake, but the decision now must lie with the british people by way of a peoples vote. That is what we need to get out of the brexit crisis. And we need remain firmly on that ballot paper. Thats the only way forward in it, and if we can find somebody who we can all coalesce around, i dont have a difficulty with that, as long as it leads to a peoples vote, not a general election, because that doesnt solve the problem at all. Anna soubry, thank you very much for your time. Lets turn our attention to hong kong, as you know, weeks of pro democracy protests. Lets go to the Chinese Embassy in london where chinas ambassador to the uk, liu xiaoming is speaking. He is painting a pretty definitive picture of the stance the Chinese Government will take in regard to these protests. No foreign country should interfere in hong kong cosmic internal affairs. Urge those Foreign Forces to serve to respect chinas sovereignty and security. And immediately stop interfering in hong kongs affairs, stop interfering in chinas internal affairs, stop conniving in violent offences. They should not misjudge the situation and go down the wrong path. Otherwise they will lift the stone, only to drop it on their own feet. Fourth, the media must show the do you social responsibilities. Since what happened in hong kong, i have to say the western media have failed to play a credible role. Instead of reporting in a just, objective manner, they have confused right and wrong, given an unbalanced account and misled the public. There has been massive coverage on the so called right to peaceful protest, but a few reports on the violent offences by the trained radicals, such as disruption of social order, attacks on Police Officers and injuries to the bystanders. There has been not a word about the extensive public support for the sar government, and for restoring law and order in hong kong. The lawless, violent offenders who undermine the rule of law are whitewashed and named pro democracy activists in media reports. But the legitimate Law Enforcement measures by the government and the police to uphold law and order and to protect life and property of the people are labelled repression. Such selective reporting and distortion have resulted in prevalence of wrong information and have misled the public, especially the young people in hong kong. It is fairto public, especially the young people in hong kong. It is fair to say the western media have inescapable responsibility for the Current Situation in hong kong. I sincerely hope the western media will reflect on the social impact of their reporting. Sure there due social responsibilities and report the situation in hong kong in a just and objective manner. I hope they will stop speaking up for the extreme, violent offenders, refrain from pouring oil over the flame in hong kong, and foster a sound environment of public opinion, so that law and order could be restored in hong kong. To help you understand my fourth point, i havejust made, i would like to show you a short video clip, so that you could see some things and hear some voices that are absent in the western media. So, as you can see, the ambassador showing some footage of the protests, which he says it represents a different side of things to what the western media are tending to portray. He was critical in his speech beforehand of the violent offences, the attacks on police, which he suggested had not been adequately covered by the western media and had therefore presented an unbalanced picture of how things are unfolding in hong kong, so he is now showing those assembled at the Chinese Embassy some of the footage he says more clearly represents the poor behaviour of some demonstrators. Lets continue to watch this just for a moment or two. 0k, ok, so were not quite sure how long this is going on for, so we will just leave the Chinese Ambassador to the uk there but we may well return to that if he begins to speak again. Now the headlines. Labour leaderJeremy Corbyn sets out his plan to block a no deal brexit, asking mps to make him temporary Prime Minister and writing to opposition parties inviting them to work with him. No suspicion of foul play in the death of teenager nora quorin police in malaysia say there is no indication of violence or abduction. Results day for more than 300 thousand a level candidates official figures show there were more than 4300 drug related deaths in england and wales last year, the highest number since records began in 1993. And in sport, 24 hours later than planned, the second ashes test get under way, australia won the toss and decided to bowl and it has gone well for them with an early wicket. Jason roy is gone. I want the fight to be in new york. Andy ruiz jason roy is gone. I want the fight to be in new york. Andy ruinunior refutes the claims by Anthony Joshuas promoter that the rematch is set for saudi arabia. They crossed the line first, but great britains Georgia Taylor brown and Jess Learmonth are disqualified at the triathlon olympic test event in tokyo. Ill be back with more on those stories after half past. Lets return to one of our headline stories. Police in malaysia say a postmortem examination on the body of 15 year old nora quoirin has revealed no signs of foul play. The teenagerfrom london was found on tuesday, ten days after she went missing from a jungle resort, where shed been on holiday with her family. Our 0ur correspondence our correspondence to Howard Johnson is in malaysia for us. Yesterday, a senior pathologist found all day spent all day examining the body of nora corrine, and today police have released some of the details of that postmortem examination. They say there is no suspicion of foul play according to them, they say she died two or three days before they found her body nora quorin. No indications of rape or violence, and they say the likely cause of death is the rupturing of her in testing because of lack of food and stress. And of course a very distressing time for her family and for the search teams who had worked so hard . Of course, this was a massive operation to try to find nora. Every day we saw between 250 and 350 search and rescue workers fanning out first ball around a 12 kilometre square out first ball around a 12 kilometre square area. Out first ball around a 12 kilometre square area. They said they had looked at the area where nora was found but had not found her on that first sweep, she was found by a group of volunteer hikers. Last night, the Lucie Blackman trust that had been set up to support british nationals in crisis abroad and had been supporting the family of nora quoirin, they said they would like to end the speculation of her death and they would like to have time to grieve and they will not be issuing a statement until they want to, and the Lucie Blackman trust have told us the Lucie Blackman trust have told us today they will release a press statement later on today to reflect some of the feelings of the family asa some of the feelings of the family as a result of this press conference today. New figures suggest the number of people who died from drugs poisoning in england and wales last year was the highest since records began. 4,359 people died from drugs poisoning in 2018, 2,917 of them from drugs misuse. That figure has gone up by 17 in a single year, a record increase. Our Home Affairs CorrespondentDaniel Sandford is here. Daniel, it makes for pretty alarming reading. They are really, really grim figures and they follow on from those really grim figures from scotla nd those really grim figures from scotland in july, those really grim figures from scotland injuly, where they have seen a scotland injuly, where they have seen a record increased to a record level as well. Not only have we got a Record Number of people dying from drugs poisoning, people dying from drugs poisoning, people dying from drugs poisoning, people dying from drugs poisoning through drug misuse is ata drugs poisoning through drug misuse is at a record figure. The increase ina single is at a record figure. The increase in a single year is the biggest single increase there has ever been ina year. Single increase there has ever been in a year. These figures started being collected in 1993. That was obviously in the aftermath of concerns about heroin misuse through the 80s and 90s. The figures went on climbing until about 2001, and then they basically remain stable between 2001 and 2012, and then from 2012 they have taken off, and for example cocaine, deaths from cocaine misuse has doubled in just three years. It isa has doubled in just three years. It is a whole collection of really, really poor figures. Is on the one side we have the bald statistics, but i guess what the professionals and policymakers will be trying to work out is what needs to change. There are a few notable things in there, there has been this big thing of people dying from heroin and other opiates misuse in the last few yea rs other opiates misuse in the last few years and that has orally been noted and commented on, so there is a concern about that. Cocaine has now become a very significant number as well. In three years, the number of people dying from cocaine misuse has doubled, and those kind of so called legal highs as they were once called, though they then became illegal, the psychoactive substances, those dropped when they we re substances, those dropped when they were banned but have now gone back up, doubled in a single year, so three areas there, heroin, cocaine and these new psychoactive substances, which could be focused on. But the key thing that practitioners are saying is the government has essentially taken their eye off the ball on this. They have gone on making cuts to services for dealing with people who have issues with taking drugs, and the figures have been allowed to spiral out of control through a combination of austerity and ministers simply taking their eye off the ball. Thank you very much indeed. The proportion of a level entries awarded an a grade or higher has fallen to the lowest level for more than a decade. According to figures from the joint council for qualifications, 25. 5 of uk entries were awarded an a or a star this summer. The last time the proportion dipped below that was in 2007. The figures also showed that girls narrowly achieved more a and a star grades than boys. And for the first time, there were more entries for a level science subjects from girls than from boys. Our correspondent Chi Chi Izundu was at Blackpool College as students opened their results. There had been a good flurry of stu d e nts there had been a good flurry of students coming this morning to do the old style way of finding out their a levels, coming into the school, opening some envelopes and finding out the results. Weve got two here with us now. Hannah, youve done exceptionally well, youve bucked the trend, congratulations. You didnt think you will go going to do as well as you did, what did you study, what did you get . Law a star, psychology, and a star, and sociology and a. I did not expect it at all, on top of the moon. Why didnt you expected . |j at all, on top of the moon. Why didnt you expected . I thought i would get three bs, which is fine, but a lot better than i thought. So what is the plan . I am going to the university of Education University of manchester to study psychology and sociology. University of manchester to study psychology and sociologylj university of manchester to study psychology and sociology. I got a double distinction in btec film and production. I am ecstatic. Double distinction in btec film and production. Lam ecstatic. I double distinction in btec film and production. I am ecstatic. I was very much concentrated on getting into my university. My teacher said aim as high as you can as well, dontjust worry aim as high as you can as well, dont just worry about ucas points, a massager cannon dont just worry about ucas points, a massager cannon that is what ive ive done. What is your plan for the future . Im going to university for the Creative Arts to study film production. Congratulations both of you, i know mum and dad are waiting inside to give you hugs and hopefully presence. As we said the overall pass mark is stable as last year, but the grades in those achieving an a star and an a grade has fallen slightly. Also girls have achieved for the First Time Ever have entered to do more sciences, biology, chemistry and physics. That is up by 53 percentage points, but there is concern over the amount of entries into english language and english literature. That has fallen slightly. There is a warning that the overall selling of those subjects is doing it damage, people arent entering to take english language and english literature. Earlier i spoke to schools minister nick gibb. I asked him to explain my exam boards had a lower boundary to achieve an a grade. The exa m exam is designed to allow students to demonstrate their capability, the a star requirement is 70 i think on one of the exam boards, so i dont accept that view. This is a new exam and it takes a few years. But stu d e nts and it takes a few years. But students collecting their maths a level results can be very proud of their achievements and there are Record Numbers of students, based on last yea rs results. Were now joined from the ucas headquarters by their chief executive, clare marchant. Good morning to you. Good morning. |j imaginea good morning to you. Good morning. |j imagine a rather busy day at your end . The phones are going mad, we have a social media team are seeing Record Numbers of social media queries coming through, helping students, both those have done better than expected but also those who have not done as well as expected, it is a chance for them to think about their next steps, perhaps a new direction. More choice than ever before on ucas dot com. Perhaps a new direction. More choice than ever before on ucas dotcom. So what are the priorities for your tea m what are the priorities for your team today and in the coming days . So the priority for us is to support stu d e nts so the priority for us is to support students so they dont feel rushed into a decision. Its not about a right choice, its about the right choice for them. It might be that going into Higher Education is still the right choice for them. It might be that they want to go into Higher Education but want to decide to go toa education but want to decide to go to a Different University or take a different course. You change a lot over the sort a period when you make this decision, over a year, 18 months. You also might decide you wa nt to months. You also might decide you want to do an apprenticeship, so we can also help you in terms of information and advice around the printer ships. You might decide you wa nt to ta ke printer ships. You might decide you want to take a year elf and look again next year. We will be here to support you all through that, or go on to ucas dot com if you want to think about logging on at three oclock and adding another choice and that will take you through the process. Explained to us how practically it works so you can connect students who want to make a change or need to do Something Different with places that now exist. Yeah, so we have over 31,000 courses that they can access, they are put up there by universities. We will allow them to enter a new clearing choice as of three oclock this afternoon. We know as i speak that 3000 students have already decided they want to do Something Different just decided they want to do Something Differentjust since decided they want to do Something Different just since eight decided they want to do Something Differentjust since eight oclock this morning. So i think there are some practicalities about researching, reflecting, dont rush into something. If you want to change the university you go to, lots of universities offer open days this weekend, perhaps speak to someone this weekend, perhaps speak to someone studying there and then make the decision. So you havent got loads of time but certainly you shouldnt rush into a decision, because theres plenty of choice. Just a final thought, its quite a crazy time for you, because of course the students end up with grades that the universities didnt know they were definitely going to get or not get. We have had a suggestion from labour that perhaps the whole process would be better if stu d e nts the whole process would be better if students didnt apply until they knew what grades they had, then that would make a lot of what you are having to do unnecessary. What do you make of that suggestion . Ican i can understand the appeal of a suggestion like that. I would say, if you are getting your results today and starting that process of applying for the very first time, and expecting then to join university mid september, that is a very short window of three or four weeks for people who havent got the amount of teachers and advisers who are around during term time. To implement Something Like that would meana implement Something Like that would mean a series of change, taking exams at different times, marking them at different times, starting Higher Education at a different time, those are all big changes, and they are big changes notjust for those students who potentially want to go to university but if you are changing the exam timetable that is for all students. And two thirds of 18 year olds dont go to university, they do Something Different. Thank you very much. Worth reminding you that at 1230 we will be putting your questions on a results tojohn andrews and katie bell. That is in our bbc ask this discussion. So dont hesitate to get in touch with whatever questions you might have for our experts. Now its time for a look at the weather with simon king. Yesterday wasnt too pleasant and tomorrow isnt going to be too pleasa nt tomorrow isnt going to be too pleasant either. But for today we have some drier weather and some sunnier weather. This is the scene at the moment in gosport. Plenty of blue skies. A few showers are still around in england and wales. Those attending to fade away and they will be increasing sunshine into this afternoon. The same goes for scotland. But the Northern Ireland i think we will see the clouds are coming up here later on. Maximum temperatures up to about 17 to 23 degrees. Suddenly feeling warmer than yesterday. I mention the wet and windy weather tomorrow, here it comes, moving in across Northern Ireland into scotland by the early pa rt ireland into scotland by the early part of friday, strengthening south westerly wind with that. Further east, some clear skies, it could turn a little chilly of Eastern England tomorrow morning, but very west conditions moving from west to east across the uk. On top of that, a strong wind. 30, 30 five miles per hour. Higher than that around the irish coast. Thats all for now. Hello, this is bbc newsroom live. Sport now, and a full round up from the bbc sport centre. Good morning. Its take two for the second ashes test this morning and the rain has stayed away so far at lords, where play got under way a short time ago. Theres a lot of red on display to mark ruth strauss day, as the sport pays tribute to the wife of former england captain Andrew Strauss who died from cancer last year. Lets get more from our sports correspondentjoe wilson. No umbrella so far today, joe. Fortu nately fortunately the weather is helping us. Fortunately the weather is helping us. There is a lot to talk about and i think us. There is a lot to talk about and ithinki us. There is a lot to talk about and i think i feel very relieved that it was today that is the Ruth Strauss Foundation day, imagine what that would have been like in the pouring rain yesterday. Today has been a very moving spectacle, read in various ways around the ground, at one stage both teams walked out with red caps, and Andrew Strauss has been here dressed in red with his two sons. And of course everything today, and this morning before play began, was really thinking about her. She died, taken very young, very healthy, didnt smoke, and yet died ofa very healthy, didnt smoke, and yet died of a rare form of lung cancer. I got the chance to speak to andrew before play began. Lam hoping i am hoping for very competitive day plasma cricket today but also some moments where all the players come together and go, cricket is big but there are bigger things in life as well. I have done quite a few things since ruth passed away, trying to increase awareness about the foundation, and it is emotional but hopefully i will stay in control to some degree. There will be some special moments, my boys will be ringing the bell this morning which they are very excited about, and receiving caps from the players, so there are some really nice, touching moments there and hopefully it is emotional without descending into a massive cry fest. And as he was saying, one of the key things about occasions like this as it put sporting its rightful context, it doesnt mean the rivalry is less intense because of that. And already we have seen andrew knows very well, it is hard to open the batting in a test match, jason roy found that as he tries to build his test match career, out for a duck today. As england try to rebuild 131 at today. As england try to rebuild 13 1 at the moment, australia made a brave decision this morning to win the toss and to bowl, and so far it looks like it is paying off for them. Joe, thank you. Great britains Georgia Taylor brown and Jess Learmonth have been disqualified at the triathlon olympic test event in tokyo, after crossing the line hand in hand in first place. Although learmonth was initially given the win, both were later disqualified under a rule that says you cant intentionally cross the line together. It meant bermudas flora duffy was given first place, and great britains Vicky Holland was upgraded to third. The anthonyjoshua andy ruinunior rematch saga seems set to continue after ruiz told a mexican tv station that he had not yet signed up to the fight. This news comes just three days afterjoshuas promoter eddie hearn stated at a press conference that the rematch would take place in saudi arabia on 7th of december. But ruiz, who is the unified world heavyweight champion insists negotiations are still ongoing. Asked about a saudi arabia contest he said they want to do it there but i would like it in new york again. Nick kyrigos has been knocked out of the cincinnati masters by Karen Kachenov despite going a set up. But its not his tennis we are talking about. Yet again, there were dramatic scenes after krygios was fired up because of a time violation. The australian unleashed a profanity laced tirade at the chair umpire before throwing his towel over the tv camera heading inside and taking his frustration out on his racquets. He is likely to face disciplinary action. Thats all the sport for now. Ill have more for you in the next hour. Jeremy corbyn has urged mps to install him as a caretaker Prime Minister to stop a no deal brexit. The labour leader wrote a letter to the leaders of other opposition parties, and tory rebel mps, asking them to back his idea of a temporary government. In the letter he said he would call a vote of no confidence, where mps will decide whether they want the government to continue. So what happens, borisjohnson has a working majority ofjust one including the support of mps from the dup in Northern Ireland. And the question remains as to whether there is another candidate who a majority of mps would back. We can now talk to our reality check reporter tom edgington. We tried our best to lay things out. Lots of talk about mps blocking no deal when they come back in september, but how would it happen . It is very complicated and we are in uncharted territory, that is the first thing to make clear. There are two broad routes available, number one, the opposition could try to use a motion of no confidence to bring down the government and then a new government could in theory extend the brexit deadline beyond the 31st of october. To try to give the new government a bit of breathing space to work out what it wants to do. For example, holding a new referendum, possibly. The second route is to huack possibly. The second route is to hijack the parliamentary timetable by proposing legislation that effectively forces the government to extend the current deadline. So lets look at the first route how would a no confidence vote work . Jeremy corbyn, as he set out in his letter, would probably call that confidence vote as soon as mps come backin confidence vote as soon as mps come back in september from their summer recess. It would require a straight majority in the house of commons and if it succeeds, you have this 14 day period, let me explain how that works, opposition parties can try to come together to form their own government during this period. If it is successful, and borisjohnson would be expected to resign, and a new pm, possibly jeremy would be expected to resign, and a new pm, possiblyJeremy Corbyn, could then take over. However, this scenario is completely reliant on the no confidence vote passing and then mister corbin commanding the majority or at least enough support of mps to install him as a new pm. And if that doesnt happen, if nothing is resolved in those 14 days, then you have a general election. But here is the big but, if the timetable of the election is ultimately in the hands of the Prime Minister, so if the Prime Minister is ultimately determined to take the uk out of the eu on the 31st october, he could schedule that poll after the 31st by which time we would already have left, which is why you have some mps say that if such a scenario unfolds they would ta ke such a scenario unfolds they would take the to court. And you mentioned a second route, amending legislation . Proposing legislation. Some mps dont like the idea of a no confidence vote because of it leads to an Election Parliament shuts down a campaign. And if that was to happen then it could potentially close of some other avenues that could potentially prevent an ideal brexit outcome. So such other avenues could be mps trying to take control of the parliamentary timetable, hold emergency but debates, that would force the government to seek an extension from the eu. That wont be easy to come fish either. First, it would rely on the speaker of the house to allow mps to propose such legislation, so his role could be crucial in the weeks ahead. And secondly, i was speaking to the institute for government think tank yesterday, and they said, if the legislation was successful, yes, the government could indeed go to brussels to seek that brexit extension from the eu, but in theory it could just simply refused to accept the terms the eu lays down, so accept the terms the eu lays down, so the government could hypothetically, and this is uncharted territory, it could say we have complied with the law, we have asked for the extension, but the terms it set down are not acceptable to ask so we are not going to go ahead with the extension. So if that scenario unfolds then mps will be looking to the courts. So overall for mps determined to stop an ideal brexit it will be a very fractious period ahead, and if we hadnt already thought the gloves were off, they certainly will be soon tom, thank you. The United States has made a last minute request to the authorities in gibraltar not to release an Iranian Oil Tanker which was seized by Royal Marines last month. Grace 1, which has been held of gibraltars coast for the past six weeks, was set to be released today, after gibraltars attorney general indicated he would make no further orderfor its detention. Kasra naji from the Bbcs Persian Service is in gibraltar for us. Can you bring us up to speed on this latest development . The authorities here are scrambling basically to figure out how to react to this latest confusion here caused by the Us Department ofjustice. They made an application last night at 130 this morning asking the authorities here to continue with the detention of the tanker. In fact, according to a statement we have had from the authorities here, that application asks the authorities to hand over the control of the ship to the american authorities because of a number of new allegations that the us is bringing against this ship. So that has caused confusion, because the plan originally was for the authorities to come to a Supreme Court here behind me this morning, and basically ask the court not to extend the detention of the tanker. The authorities here basically wa nted the authorities here basically wanted to reduce tension with iran, they had received assurances from they had received assurances from the captain of the ship and also from the iranians, that the ship with its 2. 1 Million Barrels of crude oil is not going to sail on to syria as was originally alleged. So they have the assurances, they had no reason to keep the ship here, and they wanted the court basically to order the release. At 130 this morning, all that came into major confusion. Thank you. Worth saying, a line of copy coming in saying the British Foreign ministries is saying it is unable to comment on the fate of the grace one iranians tanker. We will keep our eyes on that story. He is the retail and consumer partner at oliver wyman, the Global Management consultancy. Whats driving this resurgence in retail sales . It is interesting to see the growth in retail sales. It is up to about 396. In retail sales. It is up to about 3 . This seems instinctively a bit against the message. We know one in ten of high Street Stores is empty at the moment and the messages we hear from at the moment and the messages we hearfrom all at the moment and the messages we hear from all the at the moment and the messages we hearfrom all the big retailers is pretty much consistent doom and gloom. The growth is coming from the online players. If we look back in july there was a heatwave, it was ludicrously hot, and people wanted to shop from the comfort of their own homes without having to venture out into a burning high street. So we have a heatwave responsible for this, also we have this idea that people are perhaps bringing forward some of their spending. Any stockpiling . It is really unclear any stockpiling . It is really u nclear exactly any stockpiling . It is really unclear exactly what is going on but there is some very tenuous information suggesting that particularly in january and february in the run up to the last brexit deadline there was some stockpiling. It will be really fascinating in the run up to what the october 31 deadline to see if consumers pull forward their spend, so stop their web stockpile before brexit, particularly as we head into peak trading season, the christmas on black friday sales. The faculty of dental surgery says that in the past three years, there were more than 100,000 hospital admissions for Young Children with tooth decay and it stressed that the consequences of Poor Dental Health can be severe. Joining us to discuss this further is dr ambi jeyabalan a dentist based in glasgow. Thank you for being with us. What you make of this suggestion that schools should go sugar free . think its a wonderful idea because it isa think its a wonderful idea because it is a huge problem. Believe it or not, i think it is Something Like 4196 not, i think it is Something Like 41 of children dont even visit a dental practice, let alone having dental practice, let alone having dental decay, so in schools i think there is a very lack of knowledge as such for nutritional wise for what to be given to children, lots and lots of food and drinks that are provided, whether it is School Lunches or even if you are taking packed lunches, have high levels of sugar. They often as well have snacks in between their days, in the mid morning and mid afternoon, and often these snacks are not very healthy generally for them, let alone their teeth as well, because of the high levels of sugar. So what would a school meal look like or a school they look like without any treats like cakes and biscuits . M might bea treats like cakes and biscuits . M might be a bit miserable. It absolutely would be miserable. I think everything in moderation. But it is things that are hidden as preservatives as well, that are the main concern. And how much for the actual amount of sugar is in there, because there are plenty of foods that you can give to children that are actually very tasty as well and enjoyable during their lunches as well, and i do agree children should have fun and enjoy food, but as i say you can have that in moderation, if you have high levels of sugar are not brushing your teeth this will cause decay which is a huge problem. An International Team of scientists has begun excavating a treasure trove of new dinosaur fossils in the United States. The american, british and dutch researchers say the site is so rich in bones its likely to keep them busy for the next 20 years at least. Theyve already discovered more than a dozen animal fossils, but think there may be over 100 dinosaurs buried there including species new to science. Emma bernard is curator of fossil fish at the Natural History museum and was on the dig. Lucky you, tell us more about the site itself. It was an amazing experience to be there, to dig out these fantastic dinosaurs. And also i was the first person to ever lay eyes on them as they were coming out of the ground. It is a team effort, you have american, dutch and british scientists. People picture a day can think of people on their knees with little paint brushes, doing very fine work, but i think from what you are saying to our researcher this is are saying to our researcher this is a big site and needs big excavation. It really does. Before we arrived we had mechanical diggers on site scraping away the layers of rock, digging down to the layers where you find the dinosaurs on the other fossils, then once we get there are job for the first week or two was to get our hands very dirty, digging with spades, digging up the rest of the rock. I got quite handy with a wheelbarrow. Why is this area so rich in fossils . About 150 million yea rs rich in fossils . About 150 million years ago the landscape was quite different to today, they had lots of greenery around, lots of ferns and trees, and the River Systems flowed through, and if there were flash floods this would sweep up some of the dinosaurs, they would get trapped in the River Systems and get buried, then we are very fortunate that we are able to go back along there and dig them up. 20 years worth of work, potentially, but give usa worth of work, potentially, but give us a sense so worth of work, potentially, but give us a sense so far of what has been found in what you might expect and hope to find. We have found at least two sauropod dinosaurs, the ones with the long necks in light long tails, things like diploid ochres in bracket s or s. We have also found a large theropods similar to tyrannosaurus rex. We also found a number of exquisite fish specimens which are complete, and insects that even have their wings preserved. And when you find bones, you imagine given the size of the creatures, the job of piecing together and identifying it must be a big challenge. It can vary for something we are eight able to identify very quickly in the field if everything is complete, to sometimes if we just find small fragments it can take several years to excavate the entire skeleton, we bring it back to the museum, which is one of the fantastic things about the collections i work with, then we can compare and contrast to work out what we found. Will any of this end up what we found. Will any of this end up in the Natural History museum in the uk . Most are going back to the Childrens Museum in indianapolis, but we are hoping to do some long term loans with the museum, bring them into the museum, study them, and find out exactly what was happening in this jurassic them, and find out exactly what was happening in thisjurassic world. Further east, clearer skies, it could turn chili, temperatures in east anglia down to single fingers. Down to friday, this rain spreads eastwards. Clearer skies behind it but strong winds for all during friday. Gusts potentially up to 45 mph down towards the irish sea coast. Pretty wet and windy on friday. Goodbye. Having to do unnecessary. What do you make of that suggestion . Youre watching bbc newsroom live its midday and these are the main stories this morning Jeremy Corbyn has challenged mps to install him as a temporary Prime Minister as he lays out his plans to prevent a no deal brexit. That would mean a caretaker government, led by labour, which would be a government in order to prevent a no deal brexit, and bring about a general election so the people of this country can decide theirfuture. The labour leader has written to other opposition parties, and some backbench mps, inviting them to work with him. The liberal democrats have already rejected his idea. What we really need to do now is save our country from a catastrophic no deal brexit, and to do that we need something that will bring people together across the house of commons. And Jeremy Corbyn is not the person to do that. The biggest dinosaur hunt in decades is taking place in wyoming as british scientists help to excavate part of the american desert. Good afternoon. In the letter he said our priority should be to Work Together in parliament to prevent a deeply damaging no deal being imposed on the country, denying voters the final say. He said he intends to table a vote of no confidence at the earliest opportunity when we can be confident of success. He said he would then seek the confidence of the house for a strictly time limited temporary government. With the aim of calling a general election and securing an extension of article 50 so that a no deal brexit can be stopped. How it would work as this, i hope they would all support the motion of no confidence that i would put and that would ensure this government cannot continue with its headlong pursuit of a no deal brexit, and that would mean a caretaker government, led by labour, which would be a government in order to prevent a no deal brexit and bring about a general election, so the people of this country can decide their future. There are three scenarios from here. Firstly, borisjohnsons government regain the confidence of the house, and business continues as before. Secondly, an alternative government is formed. The new Prime Minister could decide to delay brexit, and call a general election. But this seems unlikely as theres no clear majority in the house for a different government. Third, if no government has the backing of the house of commons, a general election is triggered at the end of the 14 day period. This would take place at least seven weeks after the no confidence vote. In the meantime, mps could agree to delay brexit although doing so would be difficult. Alternatively, there may not be a no confidence vote some mps would rather use parliament to stop a no deal brexit. Theyd look to take control of the commons business and try to force the government to seek a delay to brexit. Theyd want the government to agree to a brexit extension, or reach a deal with the eu. But theres no guarantee that the government would agree to what the eu proposes making this path equally difficult. Got that . Our Political Correspondent nick eardleyjoins me. From westminster. Lots of different parts we might end up lots of different parts we might end up going down and a lot of discussion among mps about which horse they might back. Absolutely, Jeremy Corbyns view is fairly simple, he is the leader of the opposition, he commands the second Biggest Group in parliament, so if mps do bring down borisjohnson over his brexit strategy, it should be him that takes over. But the significant kickback against that from some people. The liberal democrats for example saying mr corbyn has been too equivocal on brexit, he has not been a leader on theissue brexit, he has not been a leader on the issue so they wouldnt support him. Lets listen tojo swinson, the lib dems leader. I am very happy to have discussions with Jeremy Corbyn, if hes got other suggestions of people who could genuinely command that support across the house. Im not precious about the people i have suggested, i want to find a solution that works, so lets get on to that territory of talking about things that might actually deliver what he says he wants to see, stopping no deal. At the moment, the numbers look quite difficult forJeremy Corbyn, not only the lib dems but some conservative mps who are willing to talk about ways to stop a no deal brexit but would be really reluctant to bring down their own government to put mr corbyn in number ten. Let mejust bring you some reaction and tweets we have had from labour people. Sadiq khan, the mayor of london, says this could be our last chance to stop a catastrophic no deal brexit, rejecting labours proposal makes this almost inevitable. Everyone genuinely committed to stopping brexit must take this seriously and engage constructively. That is a pretty obvious message to the liberal democrats that they should at least get around the table and talk about this. Some in the labour party, though, think that Jeremy Corbyn has to clarify a few things as well in terms of his own position. He is the labour peer andrew adonis, saying Jeremy Corbyns letter still doesnt state the labourcampaign to corbyns letter still doesnt state the Labour Campaign to remain in a referendum or the Labour Government would campaign immediately for a referendum rather than attempting to renegotiate brexit. Jeremy needs to state both these things clearly. What does all this do . It paints a slightly confused picture of what happens next for those mps in parliament who want to stop no deal. I think some who might be sceptical aboutjeremy i think some who might be sceptical about Jeremy Corbyn as i think some who might be sceptical aboutJeremy Corbyn as Prime Minister are still positive today that a deal has been open, negotiations can start, talks can happen about various strategies. At the moment, though, that main idea from Jeremy Corbyn that he becomes Prime Minister and goes and extends article 50 and holds a general election seems unlikely to happen. The big danger for those election seems unlikely to happen. The big dangerfor those opposed to no deal is that theyjust cant get their ducks in a row. They cant agree a strategy, and because of that no deal happens. Thank you very much indeed. New figures suggest the number of people who died from drugs poisoning in england and wales last year was the highest since records began in 1993. 4,359 people died from drugs poisoning in 2018, 2,917 of them from drugs misuse. That figure has gone up by 17 in a single year, a record increase. Earlier our Home Affairs CorrespondentDaniel Sandford told me more about these drug deaths. Not only have we got a Record Number of people dying from drugs poisoning, but the people dying from drugs poisoning through drugs misuse is ata drugs poisoning through drugs misuse is at a record figure. The increase ina single is at a record figure. The increase in a single year is the biggest single increase there has ever been ina year. Single increase there has ever been in a year. These figures are started being collected in 1993, obviously in the aftermath of concerns about heroin misuse through the 80s and 90s. The figures went on climbing till about 2001 and then they basically remained stable between 2001 and 2012, and then from 2012 they have taken off, and for example cocaine, deaths from cocaine misuse has doubled in just three years. It isa has doubled in just three years. It is a whole collection of really, really poor figures. So on the one side we have the bald statistics, but i guess what the professionals, what policymakers will be trying to look at is what has gone wrong, what more needs to change . And there are a few notable things in there, there has been this big use in people dying from heroin and other opiates misuse over the last few years, and thats been already noted and commented on. So there is a concern about that. Cocaine has now become a very significant number as well. In three years the number of people dying from cocaine misuse has doubled, and those kind of so called legal highs as they were once caught, though they then became illegal, the psychoactive substances, those dropped when they we re substances, those dropped when they were banned, but have now gone back up, doubled in a single year. So there are three areas, heroin, cocaine, and these new psychoactive substances, which can be focused on. But the key thing practitioners are saying is the government have essentially taken their eye off the ball on this, they have gone on making cuts to services for dealing with people who have got issues with taking drugs, and the figures have been allowed to spiral out of control through a combination of austerity and ministers simply taking their eye off the ball. Daniel sandford there. In the past hour, chinas ambassador in london has said hong kong faces its gravest crisis since it was handed back to beijing more than two decades ago. Liu xiaoming said chinas Central Government will not stand by and watch hong kong descend into chaos. He warned the British Government to handle the issue with great caution and said no responsible government could allow the kind of protests that have been seen on the streets of the territory in the last 10 weeks. Lets hear a little bit from the Chinese Ambassador before we get more from our corresponding Jonathan Head. Hong kong is part of china. No foreign country should interfere in hong kongs internal affairs. We urge those Foreign Forces to respect chinas sovereignty and security, immediately stop interfering in hong kongs affairs, stop interfering in chinas internal affairs, stop conniving in violent offences. They should not misjudge the situation and go down the wrong path, otherwise they will lift the stone only to drop it on their own feet. Chinas ambassador to the uk there. Lets get more from our correspondent Jonathan Head in hong kong. A pretty clear message from the British Government, essentially, but out. Yes, on a day when donald trump after showing real disinterest in hong kong and saying hands off, has started tweeting that perhaps he would like to get involved in somehow helping get a settlement in hong kong. Chinas view has always been very firmly this is the business only of the Chinese Government, of the hong kong government, of the hong kong government, no one else should be involved. Britain is of course a joint signatory and guarantor of the joint signatory and guarantor of the joint declaration which underpins hong kongs special status, so britain can argue illegally it does have a responsibility to speak up, but of course in practice it has very little ability to influence events here, and i dont think china is taking britains intervention, such as it is, that seriously. Im not actually sure from what President Trump said when he talked about the possibility of settling humanely whether there is even a change in the us position, which officially until now has always been, this is an internal affair, nothing we can do, ultimately these hong kong protesters are on their own. And when it comes to what we might see in the coming days and weeks, the message from the ambassador to the uk, the Chinese Ambassador, was pretty much the Chinese Government is going to take a very tough stance on this. Yes, although it will be interesting to see what the Chinese Government decides to do, because we have seen, andi decides to do, because we have seen, and i think quite deliberately, they have made it very visible, all these special Riot Police Units who are having exercises just over the border in shen jen, having exercises just over the border in shenjen, people are very jittery about that here, but for Chinese Forces to step in here and to effectively take control would be a massive step with a huge number of diplomatic repercussions. My sense is it is a step that china and many other people are saying that china will take only very reluctantly, but china clearly feels that the continuing challenge to the government here in hong kong and the government here in hong kong and the government and the polices inability to stop these very persistent and often very ingenious protests, there is only so far it can go before china feels its own authority has been undermined. We dont know when that point would be reached but the warnings are very clear. I dont think, though, they are going to stop these young protesters, who feel this is their last chance to make their demands, to make this cry from the heart about what they feel is the loss of their freedoms and the dire future they have. They dont feel they can afford to stop because they are not sure they will get another chance to do this. Jonathan, thank you very much, Jonathan Head, live in hong kong. The headlines on bbc news. No deal brexit. In the past few minutes, scotlands first minister, Nicola Sturgeon has been giving her reaction. The snp has made it clear we will work with anybody to stop a no deal brexit and avert the catastrophe of a no deal brexit. The best context i think would be a general election or a second Eu Referendum to give people the opportunity to change tack. But we will work with anybody. I think the thing forJeremy Corbyn, though, he has to finally and firmly come off the fence on brexit, and stop trying to equivocate and prevaricate. When you say you would work with anyone, would you support him to help install him as a temporary pm . We will work with anyone and explore any option to stop brexit. It is no secret i am not a big fan ofJeremy Corbyn but we will not rule out any option to stop the looming catastrophe of a no deal brexit. Ian blackford as he has been tracking to do for some time now will be seeking to talk to labour and other individual mps, if thatis labour and other individual mps, if that is possible, to try to see if we can bring together a majority behind a plan, whatever that plan may be, that stops brexit. The snp i think probably alone amongst the parties at westminster has been consistent in our determination to do that. In your view, is there a better plan than this one . do that. In your view, is there a better plan than this one . I am prepared to look at any option is, at the moment i dont want to rule anything out. I as first minister of scotla nd anything out. I as first minister of scotland know what a no deal planning is telling us about the challenges that we will face, the damages to the economy, some of the shorter term interruptions to trade, no deal is a looming catastrophe and therefore it is incumbent on people like me and on parties like the smp to do anything to avert that and frankly possible to stop brexit altogether. Jeremy corbyn, if he is now coming off the fence, i dont know, i welcome that, but ifJeremy Corbyn had ta ken know, i welcome that, but ifJeremy Corbyn had taken a much firmer position on brexit before now perhaps we would not be in the mess the uk is currently in. Lets get more now on news that the number of people dying from drugs poisoning in england and wales is at a record high. To discuss this more we arejoined by hannah shead, the ceo of trevi house, a rehab centre for mothers with drug or alcohol addictions. Thank you forjoining us. Given these figures, were you surprised to see them or does it bear out the experiences youve been having down there in plymouth . It is something we have been aware of for a long time now. I am we have been aware of for a long time now. Lam part ofa we have been aware of for a long time now. I am part of a consortium of re habs that time now. I am part of a consortium of rehabs that span the uk, and we have been well aware that the ongoing this investment in residential rehab is having an impact. Really striking concerning statistics, but not a massive surprise to me, no. And when you talk about that impact that has been happening over the years, how does that translate in the kind of service you and others have been able to offer . Here at trevi, we are creative, we find other ways to secure creative, we find other ways to secure funding. We do fundraising events, we did a parachute jump earlier on this year but the reality is we need better consistent funding in orderto is we need better consistent funding in order to carry on the funding. At your end of things, i guess you are dealing with people who are already struggling with addiction. How do you look at the other end of things, and how does Society Start to unpick why people are getting addicted and finding themselves in these awful positions in the first place . One of the things we often recognise at trevi, and you are right, we are working with people who come lives have become unmanageable through theirdrug and have become unmanageable through their drug and alcohol use, but when you look at how they first got into drug and alcohol addiction, trauma isa drug and alcohol addiction, trauma is a huge factor. Ive heard it said that trauma can be seen as the gateway drug, and we are working with people who have experienced lots of challenges, lots of complexity, and actually the drug and alcohol use is a symptom for much deeper, far rooted problems they have been experiencing. much deeper, far rooted problems they have been experiencing. I think im right in saying that youre feeling is there is a case to be made very much for making sure that people with drug addiction and alcohol addiction issues, that it is treated as a Health Problem and not a criminal issue. It is a health issue, absolutely. We work with women who, yes, their drug and alcohol use has meant they have ended up in the criminaljustice system, but it is the drug and alcohol use is because of whether it is trauma, whether it is other issues, to treat it as a criminal problem is not the solution, doesnt get the outcomes we need to get for a very Vulnerable Group of people. Hannah from trevi house, thank you for speaking to us. The United States has made a last minute request to the authorities in gibraltar not to release an Iranian Oil Tanker, which was seized by Royal Marines last month. Grace 1, which has been held off gibraltars coast for the past six weeks, was set to be released today, after gibraltars attorney general indicated he would make no further orderfor its detention. Kasra naji from the Bbcs Persian Service is in gibraltarfor us and brought us up to date on the situation a short while ago. The authorities here are scrambling, basically, to figure out how to react to this latest confusion here, caused by the Us Department of justice. They made an application last night at 130 this morning, asking the authorities here to continue with the detention of the tanker. According to the statement we have had from the authorities here, that application asks the authorities to hand over control of the ship to the american authorities, because of a number of new allegations that the us is bringing against this ship. That has caused confusion, because the plan originally was for the authorities to come to the Supreme Court here behind me at 10 30am, and basically ask the court not to extend the attention of the tanker. The authorities here basically wanted to reduce tension with iran. They have received assurances from the captain of the ship and also from the iranians that the ship with its 2. 1 Million Barrels of crude oil is not going to sail on to syria, as was originally alleged to do. So they had the assurances, they had no reason to keep a ship here, and they wa nted reason to keep a ship here, and they wanted the court basically to order the release. At 130 last night, all of that came into major confusion. Police in malaysia say a post mortem examination on the body of 15 year old nora quoirin has revealed no signs of foul play. The teenagerfrom london was found on tuesday, ten days after she went missing from a jungle resort, where shed been on holiday with her family. read on where shed been on holiday with her family. Our correspondent Howard Johnson is in malaysia for us yesterday, a senior pathologist spent all day examining the body of nora corrine, and today police spent all day examining the body of nora quoirin, and today police have released some of the details of that postmortem examination. They say there is no suspicion of foul play according to them, they say she died two or three days before they found her body. No indications of rape or violence, and they say the likely cause of death is the rupturing of her intestine because of lack of food and stress. And of course a very distressing time for her family and for the search teams who had worked so hard . Of course, this was a massive operation to try to find nora. Every day we saw between 250 and 350 search and rescue workers fanning out first of all around a 12 kilometre square area. They said they had looked at the area where nora was found but had not found her on that first sweep, she was found by a group of volunteer hikers who had gone to that area in the last few days and found her then. Last night, the Lucie Blackman trust that had been set up to support british nationals in crisis abroad and had been supporting the family of nora quoirin, they said they would like to end the speculation of her death and they would like to have time to grieve and they will not be issuing a statement until they want to, and the Lucie Blackman trust have told us today they will release a press statement later on today to reflect some of the feelings of the family as a result of this press conference today. Now it is time for a look at the weather with alina jenkins. Compared to yesterday, a much drier day, one or two showers around, but few and far between, most of us in some spells of sunshine, a fairly gusty westerly wind in places. Temperatures much higher than they we re temperatures much higher than they were yesterday, 22 to 23 celsius, a fine evening for many, clear skies before cloud gathers in the west to bring rain into northern scotland, north west and south england late in the night, and temperatures in a much lower than 13 or 14 celsius. Further east getting down to eight or nine across parts of east anglia and Eastern England. Then we have this to deal with tomorrow, another fairly deep area of low pressure pushing rain across much of the uk, initially Northern Ireland, scotland, northern england, wales, south west england, and then sliding south west england, and then sliding south and eastward through the day. That rain lingering across much of england and wales throughout the day, warnings in place, gusty winds too, 30 to 45 mph, strongerfor some southern and western places, a coolly feeling day tomorrow, 17 to 19 celsius where we have the rain but 20 or 21 in the sunshine. Hello this is bbc newsroom live. The headlines labour leaderJeremy Corbyn sets out his plan to block a no deal brexit asking mps to make him temporary Prime Minister and writing to opposition parties inviting them to work with him. No suspicion of foul play in the death of teenager nora quorin police in malaysia say there is no indication of violence or abduction. Official figures show there were more than 4,300 drug related deaths in england and wales last year the highest number since records began in 1993. The United States has made a last minute request to the authorities in gibraltar not to release an Iranian Oil Tanker which was seized last month. The proportion of students awarded top grades at a level has fallen to the lowest level for more than a decade, withjust 25 achieving an a grade or higher. Our correspondent Chi Chi Izundu was at Blackpool College this morning as students found out their results. There had been a good flurry of students coming this morning to do the old style way of finding out their a levels, coming into the school, opening some envelopes and finding out the results. I thought i would get three bs, which is fine, but a lot better than i thought. So what is the plan . I am going to the university of manchester to study psychology and sociology. I got a double distinction in btec film and production. I am ecstatic. I was very much concentrated on getting into my university. My teacher said aim as high as you can as well, dont just worry about ucas points, and that is what ive ive done. That is up by 53 percentage points, but there is concern over the amount 50. 3 50. 3 percentage points. Of entries into english language and english literature. That has fallen slightly. There is a warning that the overall selling of those subjects is doing it damage, people arent entering to take english language and english literature. Time now for bbc ask this, where well be answering all your questions on a level results, and what next for 300,000 students across england, wales and Northern Ireland. To discuss this im joined byjon andrews, deputy head of research from the education policy institute, and katie bell, chief commercial officer at middlesex university. Welcome, both. Thank you for being with us. It is a tense day for people, particularly people who have had unexpected results. Weve been getting questions coming in from some people, some peoples mums and dads. Lets start with this one. Shelley, on email my son has just got his results a in maths; a in philosophy; b in further maths. My son devastated as his first choice is durham who require 3 as. Is there any possibility of durham still taking him with these grades . I think the first thing to say is he has an amazing set of results, and congratulations to him. But i think the first thing he needs to do is call durham and find out what the situation is there. And if they dont have any places available for those great on that course, are there other causes he would be interested in doing at durham that would have though is quite frankly really great grace . If not, its an opportunity for him to go back to school, speak to his careers advisers, talk to the advisers at ucas and look at some other universities which im sure would be delighted to have him. universities which im sure would be delighted to have him. I guess it is difficult when you are expecting one thing and Something Else comes at you, and you are worried you are going to lose a place which she thought in the bag. What is interesting in this case is hes looking at results in maths, and we know nationally entries into maths have fallen by about 6 this year. And in further mass in particular it are down 10 . So the demands from universities might not necessarily be as high as they have been before. And being a student that has further maths and that higher qualification, he might be more demand than he thinks. So the message is, sometimes things change and universities might be flexible, speak to them. Let me stay with you. Imogen, on email university of birmingham original offer for a sociology course was abb, however in clearing, the university of birmingham sociology grades are a aa, is this not defeating the point of clearing . Should this be allowed . That depends on what you think the purpose of clearing is, and to whose benefit it is. In this case you might have had the University Setting the higher bar to a student when making an offer to ensure they can get the students they want in, so can get the students they want in, so they can essentially make a decision later on as to whether that student willjoin. As ever in this case, it might be worth that person being in contact with the university to see if they can be accepted. Is that normal, things change like that . It is absolutely in the hands of the registrar and the admissions tea m of the registrar and the Admissions Team is at the university. Their courses are filling by the minute. And they may have taken a decision that the courses are full at the grades that went out and now they may have some spaces for students who are getting some astonishing marks. So its really in the hands of the university at this stage, which is why it is worth talking to the universities. Communication is everything. Chiara, email i have secured a place at my second choice uni but am very disappointed with my a level english result. I predicted my other grades accurately but was expecting an a or a high b based on my previous work and feeling on how the exams went, but got a c and only 17 40 on my strongest paper. I am thinking of remarking the papers as i want to understand what went wrong rather than go for a higher grade is it worth it . This is something to take up with her school in the first instance. If they want this paper we marked the school will have to pay for it, but it there is potential they can get the paperback so she can see where she lost marks. But ultimately she has a set of qualifications that are very good, far ahead of what you see in the national average, and if she is happy with the university shes going to she will perhaps almost put this to one side and move on from it. This idea of remarking, does it happen much . Not very much. In this particular case she has a great offer from particular case she has a great offerfrom her particular case she has a great offer from her second particular case she has a great offerfrom her second choice, so she has explored the options through the course of the year and still landed a really good place at university she has chosen. So on balance i think the schools are advising the young people to make selected decisions on where they feel it is unfair im sure it is going back, but on the whole i would say she is going to one of her big choices so time to pack her bags and get planning. I suppose everything feels very planning. I suppose everything feels very raw on planning. I suppose everything feels very raw on the day, and sometimes a few days to think, time is of the essence. Sally, email can you apply to the same university in clearing that rejected you because of your a level results, please . As farasl as far as i understand, if it is a different course you are able to go and apply through clearing instead. As we discussed before, if she has just missed the grades of her current course or the call she wanted to do, it is well worth getting in touch with the university and seeing whether they could make and seeing whether they could make an offer. Luke, on email ive entered clearing but worried i wont get anything given my poor results in pe. What should i do . I think the first thing to talk about here is that there is a level of disappointment, this is probably the first phase of 1s life where you can have disappointment so tangibly. But dont panic, look, there are lots of options out there, andi there are lots of options out there, and i think it is worth exploring, through ucas, talking to the school, what options there may be. Ring round the universities and find out what courses are open. And University May not be the only option open. Further education courses, vocational courses practical courses. That is one route. And of course the apprenticeship route is worth exploring. Higher education may not be for everyone, i dont know why im from that, being from a university, but we have to say there area university, but we have to say there are a lot of options open and it is important that people today are taking the time and choosing the courses and the places that are right for them. And dont rush things, because there is a disappointment today but by tomorrow is another day and there is lots of choice, lots of options, and clearing is open for quite a long time, until all the places are filled. And for further education options will be there for a while, so options will be there for a while, so shop around. Something else weve been discussing this week, it is a crazy time because the results come in and suddenly there is a whole lot of horse trading going on because grades are different, either better or worse, than people expected. Labour have been saying why dont we wait till we have the results and then apply, i wonder what your thoughts are. There is merit in that proposal and it is something that comes up every few years, but there is lots that needs to be worked through on it. You would need agreement from how the examples were, how schools operate and how University Admissions operate, and one of the limitations on government is that they dont really have the levers to change universities arrange their admissions in the way they would on schools and colleges. Katie, would it make life easier for you . It would, but katie, would it make life easier for you . It would, but i would like to say that i think the process of choosing a university can take up to 18 months. Lower six are looking at it at the start of their a levels will be text. They given it a lot of thought, theyve been to the open t there were days, been to the universities, so if you extend it too short a period it would be forcing the choice and i think that is wrong. Great to have both of you here. Thank you very much. Dentists are asking schools in england to remove all sugar from their menus to help fight tooth decay. The faculty of dental surgery says that in the past three years, there were more than 100,000 hospital admissions for Young Children with tooth decay and it stressed that the consequences of Poor Dental Health can be severe. Dentists also want more supervised teeth brushing in schools and would welcome guidelines on healthy packed lunches. Its a wonderful idea because it is a huge problem. Believe it or not, Something Like 41 of children dont even visit a dental practice, let alone having dental decay. So in schools i think there is a lack of knowledge in terms of nutrition to be given to children. Lots of food and drinks that are provided, whether School Lunches or even packed lunches, have high levels of sugar. They often have snacks in mid morning and mid afternoon, and often these snacks are not very healthy generally for them, let alone their teeth. Because of the high levels of sugar. So what would a school meal or a school day look like without any treats . It might be a bit miserable. It would be miserable, i totally agree. Everything in moderation. But it is also things that are hidden as preservatives as well that are the main concern. And how much, the actual amount of sugar in there, because there are plenty of foods you can give to children that are very tasty and enjoyable for lunches, and i agree that children should have fun and enjoy food but asi should have fun and enjoy food but as i said you can have that in moderation. If you are having high levels of sugar are not brushing your teeth, this will cause tooth decay which is a huge problem. But first the headlines on bbc news labour leaderJeremy Corbyn sets out his plan to block a no deal brexit asking mps to make him temporary Prime Minister and writing to opposition parties inviting them to work with him. Beijings ambassador to britain says hong kong is at a critical moment in its history and warns china will not sit on its hands if protests there worsen. An International Team of scientists has begun excavating some breaking news concerning the release of the grace one, the ship that was detained by the Royal Marines off the coast of gibraltar. It led to a lot of argument in the international community, the focus being on iran and syria. We have had a statement from the captain of the grace one, who says, i am grateful and thankful for my release and i am grateful to all who have facilitated my release in my legal team. We understand Gibraltar Police have returned his passport to him and that he is hoping to seek to return home to india. That is the captain of the ship, who has clearly been given permission to leave, according to our correspondence. The fate of the ship itself is still uncertain, we had heard it was due to be released today, but there was a last minute move by the americans to ask that it be detained a little longer, so we are waiting to see what happens. But certainly a statement from the captain saying he is grateful and thankful for his own release. Emerging from the rocks, the backbone of a huge dinosaur. In wyoming, scientists are unearthing the bones of some of the biggest creatures ever to walk the earth. We have at least a dozen animals that are showing elements of their skeleton poking out of the ground in multiple parts of the site, so it makes it a very large site to deal with, and for the first time in my career we are almost looking at an industrial scale excavation. I have never been involved in such a vast dinosaur dig in my whole career. Excavating each bone is a painstaking process. They are from thejurassic period, a golden age when dinosaurs exploded in shape and size. These might look like lumps of rock but they are actually dinosaur footprints. Here we have the front foot, an imprint of a gnarly claw. Here is the back foot, with two clearly defined toes. These were made 150 million years ago when a giant, longnecked sauropod sunk down into the mud. It is like going back in time. A meat eating allosaurus has been found, and herds of diplodocus also grazed on this landscape. Before that, there was a vast inland sea, ichthyosaurs were abundant in the sea. They are working methodically, and have already found bones from a dozen different dinosaurs. But there could be more than 100 buried here. It will take at least 20 years to get them out of the ground. Emma bernard is curator of fossil fish at the Natural History museum and was on the dig. She told us the find would give us answers to what happened in thejusrassic world. Its an amazing experience to be there, to dig up these fantastic dinosaurs. And also knowing i was the first person to actually have ever laid the first person to actually have ever la id eyes the first person to actually have ever laid eyes on them as they were coming out of the ground. Ever laid eyes on them as they were coming out of the groundm ever laid eyes on them as they were coming out of the ground. It is a tea m coming out of the ground. It is a team effort, you have american, dutch and british scientists. People picture a day can think of people on their knees with little paintbrushes, doing very fine work, but from what youve been saying, this is a big site and needs big excavation. It really does. Just before we arrived we had mechanical diggers on site, scraping away the layers of rock, digging down to where you can find the dinosaurs and all the other fossils. Once we get there, ourjob for the first all the other fossils. Once we get there, our job for the first week all the other fossils. Once we get there, ourjob for the first week or two was actually to get our hands really dirty, digging with spades, digging up the rest of the rock. I got quite handy with a wheelbarrow. Why is this area so rich in fossils . About 250 million years ago the landscape was quite different. They had lots of greenery around, ferns and lots of trees, and there were River Systems flowing through that would come and go, and if there was flash floods for example, this would sweep up some of the dinosaurs, they would get trapped in the River Systems and get buried, and then we are very systems and get buried, and then we are very fortunate that we are able to go back along there are dig them up. 20 years worth of work, potentially, but gives a sense so far of what has been found and what you might expect and hope to find. We have found at least two sauropod dinosaurs, the large longnecked dinosaurs, the large longnecked dinosaurs with the long tails, diploid ochres and brackets are us. We also found a large theropod similartoa t we also found a large theropod similar to a t rex. We also found a number of exquisite fish specimens that are complete, and also insects that are complete, and also insects that have even got their wings preserved, so it is absolutely fantastic. And when you find bones one imagines that given the size of the creatures the job of piecing together what you are found in identifying it must be one of the biggest challenges. It can be. It can vary from something we are able to identify quickly within the field if it is complete, to sometimes if we just find if it is complete, to sometimes if wejust find small if it is complete, to sometimes if we just find small fragments it can ta ke we just find small fragments it can take several years to excavate the entire skeleton, we bring it back to the museum, which is one of the fantastic things about the collections i work with, then we can compare and contrast to try to work out exact what we found. And when any of this end up in the Natural History museum in the uk . Most of the fossils are going back to indianapolis, but we hope to do some long term loans with them, bring them into the museum and be able to study them and work out exactly what was happening in thisjurassic world. The family of a british woman who died after being doused with a flammable substance and set alight as she lay in bed in barbados, say they are shocked and devastated by her death. Natalie crichlow from North West London was visiting family in the west indies, when she was attacked by an intruder last month. Herfamily are raising money to bring her body back to the uk. Chicken boxes, featuring warnings about the dangers of carrying a knife, have been sent to takeaways across england and wales. Real life stories of young people, who chose not to carry a weapon, will be printed inside more than 300,000 boxes, as part of a Government Campaign to tackle knife crime. Labour mps diane abbot and david lammy have labelled the scheme as embarrassing and borderline racist. The woodstock fesitval in the United States was one of the defining moments of the sixties but whats often overlooked is that its most famous resident, bob dylan, wasnt actually there. 50 years on, our media and arts correspondent, david sillito, has been to meet the friends who managed to convince the singing legend to forego woodstock for a field in the isle of wight. Newsreel here come the hippies, the advanced guard, an invasion force expected to number between 100,000 and 200,000 from all over britain and the continent. 1969, the isle of wight and one of the moments of the 60s. On stage, dylan. In the audience, john lennon, George Harrison and ringo starr and at the press conference that launched it all, sitting here on the right of dylan, a slightly stunned 23 year old ray foulk, who asked his idol to come to his little event, never expecting him to say yes. This is the field, this is the arena. 50 years on, we met at the site and the big question, why did bob dylan come here and not woodstock which was, after all, where he lived . The fact that woodstock was taking place in his back garden annoyed him no end. He was in a reclusive situation in an artist retreat. Suddenly the woodstock festival is dumped on it. He resented it enormously. In comparison to woodstock, favourably, because we had the biggest star. They didnt get their prize. We got their big star and that amounted to all the other stars put together as far as i was concerned. And the organisers were a bunch of friends just out of school. Peter harrigan here was in charge of press. So this was just a sea of people. Yes, absolutely and so was the road coming down here. A sea of people. And all you lot were in charge. How old were you . I was 20. Did you know what you were doing . We were making it up as we went along. Where the concert is being staged, fans queue for tickets. And they did rather well but it was all a bit mind blowing. Especially for chris colley, who was told he was going to be bob dylans driver. It was overwhelming. Everywhere you looked, there was something new. Gallons of foam suddenly appearing and people swimming about in the foam. And as they prepare for their anniversary concert, its a chance to reflect on a moment, a shared spirit that was reflected both here and in woodstock. We are stardust. It was about more than just music, wasnt it . Oh, yes. It was about other ways to make this world work. The counterculture being people who are coming on pilgrimages to the festival. Believing there was a better world to be found. David sillito, bbc news, the isle of wight. Passengers and crew on board a Russian Airliner have had a remarkable escape after their plane made an Emergency Landing in corn field. There were 233 people on board the Ural Airlines flight, which was forced down after birds were sucked into the aircrafts engines. The plane had taken off from moscows zhukovsky airport bound for crimea. Now its time for a look at the weather. Another topsy turvy week of weather. Todayis another topsy turvy week of weather. Today is one of the quieter days, mainly dry, some warm spells of sunshine, quite noticeable and gusty westerly breeze, one or two showers around this afternoon, fairly few and far between. Most will have a much drier afternoon than yesterday. In the sun, feeling warmer, 22 to 23 across england and wales, just 14 for the northern isles. Dry this evening, clear skies before cloud gathers and then rain arrives in western scotland, Northern Ireland, north west and south west england. Temperatures here not much lower than 13 or 14. Could see them dipping to eight or nine across parts of east anglia under clear skies. Tomorrow another fairly deep area of low pressure bringing rain to most of us through tomorrow. Initially across Western Areas then sliding south and east through the day. Turning dry across Northern Ireland in the afternoon, also across scotland and northern england. There we could see some showers. The rain lingers through much of the day across much of england and wales, with some gusty wind, quite widely 30 to 40 mph or higher. A blustery, cool afternoon with rain, sunshine across parts of north west england and Northern Ireland, temperatures up to 20 or 21. On saturday a windy day with low pressure in charge. Generating a few showers particularly across scotland, merging for longer spells of rain, but almost anywhere can catch a show through saturday. Strong winds as well, temperatures up strong winds as well, temperatures up from friday with more sunshine, so up from friday with more sunshine, so 21 or 22.
