For a bridal banquet. Its the wedding which fed the guests on sumptuous treats, destined for the rubbish bin. Hello and welcome im katty kay in new york, david eades is in london. There are violent scenes at hong kong airport tonight as riot police clash with protestors. Flights have been cancelled for a second day. Todays demonstrations are more violent than yesterday with Police Using Pepper Spray against demonstrators. Several Police Vehicles were blocked by protestors amid signs that, after ten weeks, beijing is also preparing to get tougher on the demonstrations. The un human rights chief has called for an investigation into allegations of excessive use of police force against protestors. Jonathan head reports. Last week they were just protesting here. Now they control it. Thousands of young demonstrators flooding the terminal, forcing the cancellation of flights, and bringing a second day of misery to airline passengers. They wandered among the marooned travellers, trying to explain why they are doing this. But with so much disruption, the strain is starting to show. They say they go here because this is their last resort, because the police cannot touch them here. But how about us . We are hostages here, we want to go. It is our honeymoon, so it has been a little bit of a rubbish ending. The activists are also on edge, knowing that china has vowed to punish them, that riot police are just outside the terminal. Fear of infiltrators is everywhere. Suspected undercover officers were mobbed and sometimes beaten. An attempt by a Police Delegation to get them out turned into a furious confrontation. At one point, a hard pressed Police Officer pulled out his gun. As you can see, they are building barricades at the moment, in the entrance to the terminal. We have seen riot police outside, trying to stop them coming in. Have a look down there, still passengers arriving at the airport, how are the police going to storm this building . There were cheers as they disabled the Airport Security cameras. After this what next . This protest movement has proved nimble and inventive, capable of bringing one of asias biggest transport hubs to a standstill. The Hong Kong Government has ignored their demands, at some point, surely, it will try to drive them out. Here in the United States, President Trump has been reacting to events in hong kong. I think it will work out. I hope that it will work out for liberty. I hope it works out for everybody, including china. I hope it works out peacefully. I hope nobody gets hurt, i hope nobody gets killed. The president have also been tweeting lets speak now to zhaoyin feng, us correspondent at bbc chinese shes in washington. Im just wondering in the midst of all this weather President Trump as message is acknowledgement to say that Us Intelligence points to chinese troops moving towards the hong kong border is at the most concerning thing you picked up today . President trump just tweeted a video footage of armed police of china assembling in shen zen which is the bordering city of hong kong oii is the bordering city of hong kong on the mainland side. The footage has been tending on chinese social media for days now. There was a message posted with the video footage showing that armed police are supposed to deal with violent riots and terrorism acts, sending a very clear signal to the protesters that this force could be deployed to hong kong. That is also a domestic audience in china because the biggest nightmare for beijing as the re st of biggest nightmare for beijing as the rest of china learning from what is happening in hong kong, leading to greater unrest in the country. So the government in beijing trying to sound a lot of messages to the rest of the world, the people in hong kong, their own population as well but i imagine that the Chinese Government does not want pictures of chinese armoured vehicles moving into hong kong, crossing that bridge, that is not the kind of image it see beamed around the world . Image it see beamed around the world . Indeed. I think image it see beamed around the world . Indeed. Ithink china image it see beamed around the world . Indeed. I think china has le nt world . Indeed. I think china has lent a big lesson from tiananmen for two years ago. That being said, if you look out basic law, china does have the little ground to intervene in hong kong. 30 years ago. Article 18 says that the pra station can help maintain public order. It also says beijing can declare a state of emergency in the case of where turmoil, danger to National Unity and security, then all mainland laws will be applicable in hong kong at that moment. Pra and armed police in from china can take action and hong kong in that case. Really interesting to watch what the Chinese Government does yet because they want to get their message out to their own population, to be hong kong population. Also seeing through the un, do not meddle in our domestic affairs, this is a domestic issue. But they do not want a domestic issue. But they do not want to seem to heavy handed. The site of chinese vehicles crossing that bridge into hong kong would be troublesome for them. |j bridge into hong kong would be troublesome for them. I thought it was interesting, early on an anecdotal level, but looking at the twitter feeds, i think there are more expressions of frustration and some anger with the protesters and the figures, economically, speak for themselves. Cathy pacific share price down 7 . That is a economic reality attached to this as well. Very worrying but we will see where it goes. How long those protesters could keep up support for. Borisjohson recognises that negotiating a new trade deal with america after brexit will be as he puts it a tough old haggle. But the warm words of support from Donald TrumpsNational Security adviser suggest the us president is keen to give the new british Prime Minister a political win with some sort of early deal. They might Reach Agreement sector by sector starting with manufacturing. But it certainly wont resolve the trickier issues concerning both Us Pharmaceuticals and us animal products. And however big the whole deal, it will still be a fraction of the size of britains Current Trading relationship with the eu. In 2016, the uk exported 120 billion worth of goods and services to the us, and more than double that 283 billion worth to the eu. Which is perhaps why today mrjohnson was keen to show he isnt abandoning european markets. There are all sorts of opportunities we have to open up trade with the us. But that also goes for countries around the world. Well, youre right, the single biggest deal we need to do is a Free Trade Agreement with our friends and partners over the channel. Joining us now from geneva is dmitry grozoubinski, a former World Trade Organisation negotiator who founded explaintrade. Com a website which focusses on the nitty gritty of trade deals. Ijust wondered, we have heard today through a john boateng in particular. He has been speaking to the trade secretary, the chancellor of the exchequer, to all the senior ministers offering all the possibilities of the way in which deals might be done. There could be temporary deals, there could be sector by sector. Is it as simple as that . The lovely thing about not being the one to actually negotiate any of these things is that you can speak in these broad hypotheticals and talk about potential sums of the plans. Fundamentally, us trade deals are negotiated by the office of the us trade representative who has one priority, to get a deal that congress can adopt. I think the general Consensus Congress can adopt. I think the general consensus is that trying to bring a sack total to the us congress right now would be a very high uphill climb, even setting aside the edges of the good friday agreement and the concerns democrats in congress have about that. Dmitry, how likely is it that those trade negotiators who are notjohn boateng are going to be able to cope, can ove 1120 m e are going to be able to cope, can overcome risk and about use Animal Welfare regulations and Us Pharmaceuticals flooding on the nhs . John pharmaceuticals flooding on the nhs . John boateng. Pharmaceuticals flooding on the nhs . John boateng. If you are a us negotiator looking in the uk, you are properly thinking this is the best angel ever had to have two ove ico [t] e best angel ever had to have two overcome that kind of objection. The uk government will probably never be ina uk government will probably never be in a position where it politically it needs a quick finance deal with the us more than it does immediately following brexit, if no deal happens. So it is going to be under tremendous pressure to accept us demands. As time goes on, that pressure will likely fade as the heat of brexit subsides. It is obviously complicated, i saw Boris Johnson that they still buy haggis in the us, probably the least of their problems. Band haggis. I ta ke their problems. Band haggis. I take your point aboutjohn boltomn beat the man to do any doing. This will probably not be a quid pro quo issue, we will not need guarantees from the uk about huawei to get something back. Do you buy that . Firstly, the messages coming from inside the negotiations. Beyond that, maybe he is willing to do a deal with any quid pro quo on cars. Youd us tariff on cars is 2. 5 , they can drop light to moderate without any spread of that back. They would really like the uk to adopt is 10 tariff on cars in return. We talk about sectorial issues and allow the us to cherry pick them that way, perhaps there are issues that are willing to look out a are issues that are willing to look outa ina are issues that are willing to look out a in a slightly decoupled way. But as soon as you start asking the us to make real sacrifices in the areas of policy at that it does not wa nt areas of policy at that it does not want to move on, you might run into trouble. I also think any deal brought to you congress which does not contain some gains, newly found gains, for us farmers, its going to be in real trouble. Farmers are already feeling that they are the ones beamed out of the front line in the uss trade war with china. Frankly, i do not think they will look away from this without expecting some work access to the uk that makes a difference. Thank you for joining that makes a difference. Thank you forjoining us. I doubt we will be talking about this issue for a while so we talking about this issue for a while so we wont need you, dmitry, to explain it step by step. He mentioned one other thing there, the good friday agreement, i have spoken to nancy pelosi, she has made it any a clear lead in a deal that jeopardises the good friday agreement, they will not get a us uk trade negotiation fee congress. At the end, it is congress that will have to sign off on this. Weve heard a lot about the trump administrations efforts to clamp down on illegal immigration into america. Now the white house is moving against legal migrants as well. In a move that could affect millions of people, the Administration Says it will effectively start to means test people who are applying for green cards. The move would mean that anyone who has a low income or has used Welfare Services in the us would be less likely to get a green card. The new rule is expected to be challenged in the courts as it would be a significant departure from americas historic immigration policy. Lets get more on this from former adviser to george w bush, ron christie, whojoins us now from san francisco. Ron, thank you forjoining us. Its no great surprise in terms of what has been put out he had by the white house how much of it you think will stick, and how many people will be affected by this . will stick, and how many people will be affected by this . I think this is a very vexing question, not only for the Top Administration but for the american people. This is something we have doing within the us since 1882. What ability do you have to bring people into the country and how much means of opportunity do they have to provide for themselves . The question asked, how many people will be directly affected . Were talking approximately 382,000 people, people here legally you may have received some health benefits, some fit benefits. The real question is, will lead to an initiation deny people who are here legally at the ability to become a real american citizen due to the fact they are taking government assistance . This isa taking government assistance . This is a departure from precedent, the white house has been asked about this, youre sitting in front of one iconic monument, im sitting in a new york not far from the statue of liberty, at the bottom of what it talks about bringing make your port and huddled masses. Listen to what the white house how to set up when asked about it. Hmm,i hmm, idont hmm, i dont think that was the idea, was it, ron . Look out and look on their day, a hero of american philanthropy, who came here in a family of very poor scottish farmers. Andrew carnegie. Family of very poor scottish farmers. Andrew carnegie. This is a very difficult question to answer because this is about regulations put in by the Clinton Administration in 1999. They look at this public charge question and said, if you are here legally and accept welfare benefits, that might put a burden on your ability to be become a us citizen. The champ administration is a revising original guidance from the Clinton Administration. I agree with you, if you have the means and opportunity to add to our society, we ought to look at people on an individual basis and is ask what they can bring to the us, rather than having a sweeping barring of the ability to come here. No message is to protect public services, preserve the social safety net. It would appear that men people who wa nt to would appear that men people who want to hold onto the green card are prepared to take them out of any possible safety nets to ensure that they wont be tempted by it. What sort of impact do you think that is having on many of those at the lower end of the income spectrum . Recognise again that this is a regulation that will go into effect on october 15, it is not the force of lawjust yet. On october 15, it is not the force of law just yet. They like on october 15, it is not the force of lawjust yet. They like the american big Delivery System works is that it allows the public the opportunity to weigh in, to say that there are perhaps a modifications here. I believe that those who are at the bottom of the safety net, those who have apply for these services from the comment, you could bea services from the comment, you could be a disincentive for them to do so, they will not apply for these things they will not apply for these things they are entitled to so they can become american citizens. Has to be a smart way to go about this, this is around one and a lengthy process. We do not want to marginalise people have the legal opportunity to apply for these and services. Doctors who treated the victims of a Nuclear Accident in russia have now been sent to moscow for examination according to Russian Press reports. There is still a lot of secrecy surrounding thursdays blast but we do know that at least five people died and radiation levels in the area spiked dramatically. Officials have said there was an explosion during a rocket test on a sea platform near archangel. But theres been no official explanation for the spike in radiation levels. It was the second blast at a Russian Military site in a week. Weve been speaking to james acton the co director of the Nuclear Policy program at the Carnegie Endowment for international peace. Kick as of here, there is still an awful lot of uncertain exactly what the russians have been doing and launching here. We have heard about sky fall. How much do you really now . I think we are seeing an increasing amount of evidence that the russians were indeed testing this Nuclear PoweredCruise Missile called sky fall. It is not certain but i would say i was about 80 of thatis but i would say i was about 80 of that is what it is. The radiation has been detected, it is causing an evacuation. Equipment and ships that we have previously seen associated with survival tests, we are seeing that again. There is also the president tweeting that it was sky fall, i dont think that was Proof Positive but it has me he might have been briefed on is by the intelligence community. To put this ina intelligence community. To put this in a broader context of a time in which new treaties between the us and russia are being rolled back, not advanced, is that concerning . think that is exactly the context in which to view this. From the russian perspective, i think a lot of it is being about being able to penetrate us Ballistic Missile defences. Which i say they can already do, from a russian perspective, remaining ahead of the care. We think about treaties, it was the bush ministration which withdrew from and how Ballistic Missile treaty in 2002. That appears to have spat a numberof 2002. That appears to have spat a number of russian developments that have been in the pipeline for a long time. This skyfall Cruise Missile has not been developed in a month or even a year, it has probably been in directly for many years. These developments that we are seeing that are now starting to catalyse the breakdown of the entire arms control regime, which in turn is likely to stem like even more arms racing. So this is a worrying time. So are you saying that we are seeing duties rolled back, advances in technology being made on the russian side, at the same time, more accidents are likely to occur like this . Treaties rolled back. likely to occur like this . Treaties rolled back. I think there is Something Like a vicious circle here. Some of the technologies that russia has been working on, including as non Nuclear PoweredCruise Missile, is a violation of a existing treaty. The us withdrew from that treaty and i think the effect of that withdrawal is that both sides will be developing more capabilities. Which in turn will put more pressure on the one the one surviving arms control treaty. I think we are very much seeing an arms racing. The skyfall Cruise Missile is uniquely dangerous. To the best of my knowledge, none of the best of my knowledge, none of the other systems that russia is working on are actually Nuclear Powered. So i am not anticipating other systems during testing will cause accidents or dangers on this scale. I think the danger is much more a strategic one, but if the us and russia engage in arms racing, that drives up tensions, which ultimately, i think makes war more likely. The teenage Climate Change campaigner, Greta Thunberg, is preparing to sail across the atlantic to attend a summit at the United Nations in new york. The 16 year old activist is travelling on a 60 foot yacht fitted with solar panels and underwater turbines that produce electricity onboard with the aim of making the journey zero carbon. Our chief environment correspondent, justin rowlatt, has been speaking to her in plymouth. How do you get to new york without any Carbon Dioxide emissions . This is how. Greta thunberg isnt anxious. I might feel a bit seasick, it will not be comfortable, but i can live with it. The yacht might be fast but shes not comfortable. Now washing, no shower, we put clothes on and keep them on for two weeks. There is no fridge, no kitchen, no heating and no privacy. You have an intimate corner, you can hide here and use a bucket. This is for poos only, please. The entire journey will be under sail and all of the electricity will be generated by solar panels and turbines. One person giving up flying doesnt make any difference in a world of eight billion people, so what is the point . I mean, the point, ithink, is to sort of create an opinion, if i stop flying, you dont only reduce your own Carbon Footprint but also, that sends a signal to other people around you, that, i mean, the Climate Crisis is a real thing, and that also pushes a political movement. But it has been a year since a 16 year old began her climate strikes and Carbon Emissions have continued to rise. She plans to encourage World Leaders to take more urgent action in new york. So this is the bunk where greta will be sleeping, with a little curtain, should she wanted, and when the boat is tipping over, you can pull this off and kind of wedge yourself, and you are actually squeezed in against the hull, so youre not going to fall out and actually, ill be honest, it is quite cosy. And despite the privations, she is looking forward to the trip. I think it will feel good, in a way, to bejust a loan with those on the boat and, like, the ocean. I think it will do good. The voyage will take two weeks. Gretas team say they havent yet planned how shes going to get back from america. I , i ,iget , i get very, very seasick. That is my idea of hell on earth, brave woman. Join the club. Now we promised our editor kate no animal stories today. But then this one proved irresistible. A couple who got their paws on a £1 million lottery prize have thanked their pet cat for the win. Andrew hancock only bought the winning scratchcard because he had to drive to the local petrol station to buy food for his six year old cat, shortcake. He said, if it wasnt for shortcake, we wouldnt be millionaires. He should be short break or shouldnt hear you, my it . Coming up for viewers on the bbc news channel and bbc world news is the world one step closer to a cure for ebola . Well take a look at a successful dutch trial in at the democratic republic of congo. And volatility in the global markets. We are following it. Hello. Our weather this week couldnt be more different from day to day. One day dry with sunny spells and light winds. The next day howling winds and heavy rain. We have had some sunshine this tuesday. Guess what wednesday has in store . Beautiful scenes are being sent in by our weather watchers today, blue skies here in gloucestershire. Wednesday is a very different story. Low pressure coming in off the atlantic will bring plenty of cloud, as well as some heavy rain. Wettest of the weather is initially across the south west of england and wales as we may throughout the early hours, we will see that creeping its way eastwarby the end of the night. Ds Northern Ireland and scotland escape with just a few showers. A milder night underneath the clouds, still chilly for eastern scotland in particular, lows in rural areas to 3 orfour celsius. Here are some of the best of the sunshine for wednesday. Of cloud and heavy rain sweep across england and wales, particularly fund the redone pause for woodlands. Generally drier for scotland and Northern Ireland until evening. But weather into Northern Ireland and scotland as the day comes to a close. Pretty Cool Temperatures in the higher teams at best. The next day is a very different story. The dry weather and sunshine is back, a little ridge of high pressure, one or two showers possible on thursday. A much drier and warmer feeling day. Possible on thursday. A much drier and warmerfeeling day. High teens, up and warmerfeeling day. High teens, up to 23 and a south east of england. For friday, low pressure ploughs in, it looks like it is going to bring some quite pokey with a prince into the south of the uk over the close of the weekend. It is still august, it is still summer, it will feel more like autumn. Widespread rains, strong winds, gusting at 40 50 mph. Temperatures are in the high teens, yes, but it will fill cooler where we have the ring. The weekend does not improve dramatically at all. Whats more showers in the mix. Strong winds on sunday, but i shall even destructive winds in our forecast. Youre watching beyond one hundred days with me katty kay in new york, david eades is in london. Our top stories. Violence at hong kong airport as police clash with pro democracy demonstrators whod forced the cancellation of more flights. Borisjohnson says a post brexit trade deal with the us will be a tough old haggle but remains confident that britain will get there. Also coming up in the next half hour. Why frequent flyers are bemoaning the demise of first class travel. Is there truth to the claim or is it merely hot air . Well hear from the couple who put on a lavish wedding banquet for their guests made up from food destined for the rubbish bin. I dont often think this, but its time to spare a thought forfinancial traders. Markets lurch from stomach churning falls to heady climbs from one day to the next. The volatility is largely due to uncertainty in Global Economic policy particularly on the issue of trade between the us and china. Traders are buying or selling in response to the latest tweet or announcement from President Trump. Its all a bit short term and can easily be reversed. Just moments ago he spoke about how the us was levelling the playing field. We are doing well and fighting against a lot of countries that have taken advantage of us for many years but theyre not doing it so many years but theyre not doing it so much anymore. And in a little period of time they will not be doing it at all anymore, they have taken advantage advantage of this country. And joining us now from irvine, california is the chief economic adviser at allianz, mohamed el erian. So you get markets moving dramatically because the white house says one thing and says the other the next . Some markets moving dramatically and you are right it is a roller coaster in stocks and what a roller coaster in stocks and what a difference between today and yesterday. Today us markets are up up yesterday. Today us markets are up up to 2 but underlying that is something more significant, markets no longer have an anchor. No economic fundamentals or central bank policy. So it is a very volatile period and as you say traders are having an enormous difficulty figuring out what they should be doing. But volatility if youre trading is not necessarily, it might be bad for your nerves but not necessarily bad for your pocket. Plenty of money to be made in volatility. There is but the money made on volatility is because traders had an edge and it is hard to argue that they have an edge in predicting tweets from the white house. So i think they are as puzzled as many others are and it just speaks to the new reality in markets when both fundamentals are no longer anchoring day to day moves. How do you, how much do you think is driven by the fear factor that it has almost been too good for too long. Growth has been going on for it feels like now quarter after quarter. 121 months of growth in a row, the us vigorous and similar in the eu and marketsjust the eu and markets just believed that that bubble has got to burst . If we were speaking yesterday i would have said yes but today is different. It is the fear of missing out and the most profitable trade for the last eight years has been to buy on the dip. What we see today is people rushing in on a tiny bit of good news because they have been conditioned to buy on the dip. Yesterday was about fear but today is about greed and we see that exaggerated on both sides. Perhaps if you look at this currency is spat going on between against the us and china at the moment, how great are the concerns that china is prepared to say you know what, let the currency slipped further. I suppose that could mean forget any idea of settling this trade dispute. that could mean forget any idea of settling this trade dispute. I think thatis settling this trade dispute. I think that is probably the most likely outcome. We will get the occasional ceasefire as we have seen today but i think looking at the underlying drivers and notjust economic but also to do with domestic politics and National Security, they suggest and National Security, they suggest an escalation of trade tensions. And underneath all that horrible number is coming from Singapore Today in terms of growth outlook, europe is having difficulty having traction so a lot of victims around of these trade tensions and notjust the us china issue. Let mejust trade tensions and notjust the us china issue. Let me just ask a question relating to the American Election coming up next year because there is talk just election coming up next year because there is talkjust in the course of political debate here about whether there is going to be a recession in there is going to be a recession in the us in 2020 and how that could play into President Trumps electoral prospects. Where do you stand on that . It is hard to get a full recession unless you get a big market accident or a big policy mistakes. But on its own the us economy can do up to 2. 5 growth. The trade war ironically plays rather well in the us, quite broad based support across the party line for it that the time has come to tell china enough intellectual property theft, lets have a more level playing field. So it is a delicate issue and you would need a major policy mistake or market accident to get the us to go into recession. Thank you very much for that. It might play well in the us but i tell you what any economy that has big deals with china is dreading the next step i think with these currency fluctuations. I suspect a lot of Democratic Candidates will not be calling mohammed to say is theyre going to bea mohammed to say is theyre going to be a recession for the byford democrat sang to me maybe were crossing our fingers and democrat sang to me maybe were crossing ourfingers and hoping there is some economic downturn next year because they think that is their best chance to win back the white house. Our main story this hour, the clashes between protesters and riot police at hong kong airport. It has been a violent day. Earlier we spoke to jonathan airport. It has been a violent day. Earlier we spoke tojonathan head. It was a lot more intense and emotional. Not so many physical clashes. They came in and shut down the airport using trolleys to form barriers. That was very efficient and forced the airport to close quite suddenly further up the stu d e nts quite suddenly further up the students i think, these protesters, felt far more on edge about infiltrators. We saw three men being mobbed and in some cases beaten who they say they found Identity Cards on identifying them as chinese Police Officers. And then a confrontation when a Police Delegation came into the airport to try to get the men out. And the thousands of protesters here just screaming at them because of their anger over the web the police have treated them. At one point we had a lot of riot police as well running up lot of riot police as well running up outside the terminal and will assume they were coming in, it was panicked at that moment. Protesters rushing up to try to blockade the doors but in the end it did not happen because as yesterday i think the protesters decided confrontation was not worth the risk and theyjust in the last hour and a half have melted away. Weve seen that twice, melting away like that but what is the expectation, will they be back again tomorrow and of course how many days can this be expected just to go on in this form . This is a big airport and one of the biggest transport hubs in asia. It is very disruptive not just for the transport hubs in asia. It is very disruptive notjust for the city but for the whole region and hugely embarrassing for the backer of the Hong Kong Government, china which is increasingly impatient and using some very ominous language. I think the protesters know that and i think they are divided. Some want to go all the way to provoke china and the field this is the last ditch protest. It is hard place for the police to come in and clear them but i think others are more hesitant to do that so we do not know if they will come back. Today days row they shut it down, the Hong Kong Government looks powerless, it looks beleaguered. That is exactly the situation in which you can imagine china saying if you cant do it step aside and we were coming and that would be a catastrophic scenario for hong kong and for the region. I think many people may anything have second thoughts about a strategy that does this every day that we just do not know. For all kinds of reasons they are a leaderless movement, fragmented. Im not predictable. That is partly why they have been so successful. Just bring up have been so successful. Just bring up to date on theJeffrey Epstein investigation following the weekend. The attorney general was adamant that they would have to be, that they would keep the investigation going for the Co Conspirators should expect justice to be going for the Co Conspirators should expectjustice to be done for the Us Department ofjustice has said he has now directed the temporary reassignment of the warden of the metropolitan Correctional Centre in new york where Jeffrey Epstein had been held and they had been wondering how on earth this suicide could have been allowed at the Correctional Centre. The warden is being temporarily reassigned. It looks as if they had been a slip up there in terms of surveillance. It looks like the world might be one step closer to a cure for ebola. Scientists say theyve made a major breakthrough in finding a treatment for the deadly virus after Clinical Trials showed 90 of infected people could survive if treated early. The drugs were given to patients in the democratic republic of congo, where theres been a major outbreak of the disease. Health Officials Say the drugs will now be used to treat all patients with ebola in the country. Bbc africas Health Reporter merci kandia tanui has more. In what has been termed as a medical breakthrough in the fight against ebola, two drugs on Clinical Trial have proved to have a 90 chance of survival for patients diagnosed with ebola. The two drugs, regn eb3 and mab114, have proved to cure patients diagnosed with ebola. Today in goma two patients were released to members of the community, they were part of four others diagnosed with ebola about three weeks ago. We talked to doctor sbu, a lead researcher, and expert in ebola. He says this Clinical Trial drug treatment will be used as a tool for the social Mobilisation Commission as a way of ensuring Community Members come in for early diagnosis. Lets speak now to the director of the Global Health charity Wellcome Trust jeremy farrar. Hes in our studio in oxford. There are breakthroughs and breakthroughs but from 70 i think the figure of people are likely not to survive ebola to 90 survival, this is extraordinary. It is extraordinary and it is to be celebrated. Just to be careful with the numbers, it is about 30 survive of everyone that comes in with ebola if the patient comes in early in the first few days of infection looks as if the is less than 10 . Whatever it is of those two that is dramatic compared to what with then used to with ebola outbreaks might back to 1976. I guess one of the issues might be that if there is none to be a cure for ebola could that reduce the stigma amongst people who have the stigma amongst people who have the virus and therefore make them more likely to come forward for treatment . That is the huge hope. Throughout ebola outbreaks going back many years now, there has been a huge stigma associated with the disease and people have wanted to look after their relatives at home and not wanted to come forward. Theres been a question of trust and you can imagine why that is true, if we are not able to offer any treatment but say youre relative for yourself might commit into a Treatment Centre and we will do our best but to be honest a lot of people will die, that is not a big incentive. In the treatment that the child before its over the last few days just demonstrates that with specific treatment the death rate from ebola can be brought dramatically lower. The hope is that incentivises people to come forward earlier, we hope it will reduce transmission and we hope it will rebuild trust and we hope it will reduce the stigma. The question in this outbreak is how fast we can get the drug out there and how widespread can we get it into use. The other great thing about these drugs and one in particular as they can be given as in a single shot, a single injection of a quite a small period of time, a few minutes. And they do not need to be stored in very cold temperatures so again the hope would be because of the logistics of how to get the drug to people that it can beat widely deployed. It has been promised every patient currently in a Treatment Centre. Thank you very much forjoining us and fantastic news that on a new possible cure for ebola. This is beyond one hundred days. Still to come is flying first class not all its cracked up to be . Some frequent travellers seem to think so well get the expert view, coming up. Three men from manchester have been hailed as heroes by police in australia after they helped restrain a man who was attacking pedestrians with a knife in sydney. A woman was stabbed in the incident in the city centre and a second woman was found dead nearby. Phil mercer has the details. Terrifying carnage is how the police have described the rampage in sydney. Video footage shows the suspect apparently shouting allahu akbar, and shoot me. They are people you just stabbed, you dog the armed man is eventually tackled to the ground, pinned down with cafe chairs and milk crate before police arrive. Whats that . Who are you . A group of british men had been working in an office nearby when they heard the commotion. They ran down and chased the alleged offender. I think he had a balaclava on, jumped on a car wielding the knife with blood on it and we are like, wow, what is going on here . We just thought we had to try to restrain him from doing any more. The courage of the three british men and others has been recognised by australian police. Those members of the public, who got involved. They are brave, and i can only use that word seriously, they were significantly brave people. They approached a person with a mindset of, obviously, what this person did. The man wielding the large butchers knife has been identified as a 21 year old man with a history of mental problems. Australian police say he was acting alone and dont believe he has any links to terrorism. The motivation for the attack is not yet known. Phil mercer, bbc news, sydney. Many of you are about to jet off on holiday so this could resonate with you. Shrunken seats. Leg rests vanished. Food thats barely edible and the service . Unacceptable. Youd be forgiven for thinking ive just read you a description of the cheapo seats at the back of the aircraft. But no. That was how one frequent flyer from the us described first class in a recent newspaper article. The woman in question was mostly referring to domestic flights in the us but theres no shortage of complaints about the premium cabins on transatlantic flights either. So is the grumbling well founded . Joining us now from budapest is aviation expert and travel blogger gilbert awt. You pay enough for a first class seat, you should expect the world, really. Is this the case of saying it is not as good as it used to be or has she got a point . it is not as good as it used to be or has she got a point . I think as far as domestic flights go she has a point, it has got to the point where first class were kind of a given in the us and you do get what you pay for and obviously with the free app great you cannot expect too much internationally i would think it is kind of crazy, theres never been a better time to fly first class and nor has it been more opulent and frankly ridiculous. So i would say there is some merit to the grumbling and select circumstances but it is also exaggerated. Just looking at some other splendid images of what you can get, heavens above but you wonder if this is really about, there just is not the kind of uniformity in first class anymore. Some are as weve seen, some unbelievable i absolutely agree with you youre looking at ads long enough to fit a basketball player. Just done a story about Greta Thunberg who is crossing the atla ntic thunberg who is crossing the atlantic by selling boat because she wa nts to atlantic by selling boat because she wants to reduce our Carbon Footprint, at some point first class with its massive suites as we saw just there and bathrooms, that has got to be a thing of the past, is there not a stigma now about flying first class . It is absolutely something worth talking about and i think were finally seeing a time where airlines are getting serious about reducing their footprint with the planes that they fly on the frequencies they use. But it is one of those things without any of us forgoing our vacations or work travel, we cannot see an immediate end to it. But it is a complicated question. Above my pay grade to give you an answer. But certainly the optics of flying first class are more difficult than ever when Business Class is such an incredible cabin and some other caverns are also catching up. Thank you very much forjoining us. Above all vibe pay grade to fly in such luxury i suspect. This is something totally different. Weddings are usually a luxurious, no expense spared occasion, full of great food and drink to create that unforgettable moment. And our next guests kayley and joe tilston were determined to have Something Like that but with their own morality tale attached. They did have a lavish banquet as you can see, but all the dishes were created from surplus food that would otherwise have been destined for the rubbish bin. The event was catered by a charity the realjunk food project that runs cafes selling so called waste food. It stopped more than 250kg of food from ending up in landfill. Lets speak to kayley and joe now theyjoin us from leeds. Welcome. And congratulations first of all. Did you tell your guests what they were getting . Not until afterwards a few of them were still queueing up for food afterwards a few of them were still queueing up forfood but afterwards a few of them were still queueing up for food but the majority had tucked in and it was a big surprise. He is a big surprise, how did they react . A lot of them we re how did they react . A lot of them were our kind of people but we did expect a few people that we would have to convince and that was definitely the big reveal. The amazing part is people went back for seconds and there was not a lot left over at the end of the night which is what we wanted. I was looking at the menu and some of the things that you served and it looks delicious. Things like pork ribs and sea bream andi things like pork ribs and sea bream and i think that kind of fresh produce, having fish that would have been destined for the rubbish bin i guess people might be surprised that you are able to get that kind of fresh quality food that would have gonein fresh quality food that would have gone in the bin otherwise. fresh quality food that would have gone in the bin otherwise. I think the big assumption is this is food past its sell by date but this is stuff that was surplus to requirements and a lot of it fresher than what you find on the sugar market themselves. On the supermarket shelves. So this charity intercepted and they saved luckily for our wedding and we ended up with some incredible things. Some amazing vegan vegetarian salads as well. You got a really good deal, and did not have to pay too much which of course helps when splashing out on a big wedding. But is this for you more about getting the message out because at the end of that you would like to think that food going cheap if it is going to waste might be there for people who cannot afford to pay the full price anyway . Absolutely, having to cater for nearly 300 people was of course a big consideration in terms of the costs. Having to pay Something Like £5 ahead, £25 ahead was something to consider but we really thought of the project to deliver a clear opinion merely that you do not have to go for things that cost the earth but also things that are surplus. It is about using things that are available to us and being more resourceful. And it was notjust available to us and being more resourceful. And it was not just the third but the flower also i think that you got were recycled and your address you are going to be used as well . Absolutely, weve set up a Facebook Group to try to recycle more things from a number of weddings weve been to and we hope this grows and big people become more resourceful with big events. It is easy to spend a small amount on the internet and have mass produced and difficult to recycle items when you could reuse things and make it sometimes even look more beautiful. You may kiss the bride there you go thank you very much. A lesson to us all. I have a niece who has a company where she recycles food and vegeta bles company where she recycles food and vegetables from spitalfields market. She makes chutney out of it and it has been really popular. There is a real move for this but much more so in the uk than the us. And just before we go, a tale from deepest darkest peru. Coins featuring Paddington Bear visiting some of londons best known landmarks will soon be turning up in peoples loose change. The new 50p designs from the royal mint show the character at the tower of london and st pauls cathedral.
