In those days people who are young boys. We re women carrying knives has often been to another. In those days people were eager to connect you with described as a hidden problem, people and theyd say, you need to but with the numbers increasing, the pressure is now on police and politicians to tackle it. Meet this producer, and at 14 i was sarah corker, bbc news. Signed. It is so different now with all of these reality shows that can catapult people into the limelight. Climate scientists are warning that where did all of that confidence High Consumption of meat come from . I dont know. It wasjust and dairy produce around the world, is fuelling Global Warming. There as a child. I used to drive my researchers say intensive farming releases carbon into the atmosphere, family nuts. I would be singing all helping to raise temperatures. The time and they would be, here is now the United NationsIntergovernmental Panel a cookie. Go in the kitchen. You are on Climate Change, says more people could be fed using less land, either an artist or you are not. It if there was a cut in meat consumption, was in me and i am glad it worked and a switch to plant based diets. Our environment alanyst, out. I am very grateful. Ijust roger harrabin, reports from geneva, where the ipcc has celebrated 30 years. You are doing released its findings. Something right. You spend quite a bit of time in britain that you are this alpine landscape was once covered by forest. The trees sucked carbon performing on Henley On Thames next dioxide from the atmosphere and regulated the climate. Week. Tell us about rewind. Then, humans cleared some performing on Henley On Thames next of the land for food. Week. Tell us about rewindm performing on Henley On Thames next week. Tell us about rewind. It is so much fun. Tonnes of artist who i but cattle burp methane, and that love as well, that ive grown up strongly heats the atmosphere. With or i am newly discovering. A this sort of low intensity grazing combination but it is so much fun. May produce protein from poor soil, and it does have some environmental everyone comes out to have a good benefits, but it still creates time. Sing along with other artists more Greenhouse Gases and other artists are still doing than growing plant protein. Music. A lot of these artists are scientists meeting here in the alps are not saying weve all got to go still recording, a lot like myself. Vegan to protect the climate. Its still recording, a lot like myself. Its nice to see people embracing the past, reminiscing on the retro they are saying that we do need to cut down on and yet still being in the know now red meat and dairy produce, and shift on towards and yet still being in the know now and loving what they are doing and i eating more vegetables. Think that is what the fancy. The and that message may not go down very well here, line up here and im going to insult in a region that is so heavily dependent on cheese and meat. People by not including all of them. We need to do what we can on the land, but actually michael bolton, belinda carlisle, it is important to maintain food grandmaster flash. It cant be like production and so there will always be some emissions on land. So, in fact, we have to do as much as we can with the energy working . I love all of these people. And industry and other i know some of them and they have sectors, as well. Become friends which is great we have to do everything now really, if were going to have any chance because the 15 year old in me would of avoiding the worst impacts of Climate Change. Debate here has been fraught have gone, what . they are amazing because the way we use andi have gone, what . they are amazing and i get to sit on the sidelines the land is so complex. And i get to sit on the sidelines and rock out. People look at me and among the experts recommendations are on biofuels, limiting the area used to grow trees to be burned iamon and rock out. People look at me and i am on the side going, this is so to make electricity. This could conflict much fun it is a great celebration of music. One of our correspondence with feeding the world. 0n deforestation, working harder to protect the trees that protect us from climate heating. Insisted on having a selfie with you and it is already on social media. You have to sing some of the tracks 0n desertification, finding ways to feed people that dont involve degrading that people associate with you from the soil through overgrazing. The beginning of your career, but then, there is the way we eat. You have mentioned a new album out. In the west, we over we re recorded i think were alone consume meat and dairy. That is bad for our health, it is bad for climate, it is bad for water, now, everyone. I did it a little bit it is bad for land degradation. More rock edge which is what im doing now. I think we should listen if we were able to reduce that consumption in the west, of meat and dairy, then to it now. And the new video to go we could have significant benefits for the climate, with it. I went back to all the but also for our health. Scientists also want to stop food being discarded, original places and included a few because wasting food means new things like my high school which was so much fun. I havent been back the Greenhouse Gases created to high school in a while. To produce fertilisers to grow the crops have been for nothing. A charity in geneva redistributes waste food. Here they are taking stale bread and turning it into new cookies. This avoids having to produce fresh flour to make the cookies. Children, behave here is a positive sign. Thats what they say when were together. And watch how you play these peat moors in the north they dont understand of england were previously drained, and so were running so animals can graze. Just as fast as we can holding on to one anothers hand when peat is exposed to the air, it gives off Greenhouse Gases. So now they are blocking up trying to get away, into the night and then the channels to succeed peat again. One of the easier options you put your arms around me in what the Scientists Say have become an increasingly desperate attempt to stop the planet overheating. And we tumble to the ground and then we say i am nowjoined from his farm i think were alone now in cambridgeshire by martin lines, there doesnt seem an arable farmer and uk chair to be Anyone Around of the nature friendly i think were alone now farming network. Thank you forjoining us. Martin, how are farming practices changing in the light of the latest research into Climate Change . A lot of people it sounds really fresh still. It sounds really fresh stilllj it sounds really fresh still. I am lucky to have it a part of my life concentrating on reducing their because it makes people happy. I Carbon Footprint, and is an arable have done it acoustic, even on piano farmer, we put a species mix of and there is something about that song. To go in and do the new video seeds and soil and use natures which was a million views in a routes to do the cultivation and month, i was so flawed. It was that captures some carving up its organic matter into the soil, so great. I really am loving every bit theres lots we can do, and farming can be an answer to some of this, of it thanks to all the fans who keep supporting an organ music coming out, new album coming out next year as well. You are busy i and the grass fed meat in the cereal fed industry is key to some of this. Am busy. Touring. Who writes your what extent is it about returning to old practices that had fallen out of material . I do. I didnt write i favour . It is going back to having think were alone now so i learn the right balance with the landscape, and working on the capacity that you can use it, and quickly people were encouraging in being fairto capacity that you can use it, and being fair to the outcomes we can produce. And that is picking up some the early days to do that. It was really that might bandmates help me older practices that we once did with pastures. But we are racing along the way. I have been co producing the last couple of against the clock to either slow albums and it is really nice i get down or stop Climate Change and compliments now about my songs. Global warming. How quickly do somebody has just put on social farmers see the difference, when they make these changes . media, tiffany on bbc news. So many farmers see the difference, when they make these changes . A lot of them see it quite quick. We are thrilled to see you still. How has getting very effective to try and it changed . The thrilled to see you still. How has it changed . The Music Industry in those 30 years . Is it tougher now . Break down in the changing weather it is tougher to some degree. If patterns. But the key message i want to say is it is the consumer that people think you are not on the can lead this, we need the consumer charts you are dead but youre not, to buy the products that have the because there are so many other lower Carbon Footprint and shorter avenues through social media, supply chains and support those farmers who are doing that and itunes, even releasing i think we delivering. How do you know as a consumer that that is what you are are alone now again, it went right into the fanss hands. I didnt have supporting . There are various to worry about the red tape that labels, shopping locally, and hopefully with Government Support of goes with labels and it is better to worry about the red tape that goes the industry we can help the shopper with labels and it is petty for me as an artist, an independent artist, and consumer identify those products ican as an artist, an independent artist, i can talk about other things as that have the best environmental footprint. What are the downsides well. People can see me in the studio making my records so i am very involved on social media. Just for a consumer, because clearly, if because i want my fans to be a part of it. Back in the day i dont think you are trying to be less intense you did that. We waited for an album with your farming, there could be a and then it was, now we can be so cost implication. On our business and a number of otherfarms, it engaged with the audience which i love. We are all accessible on hasnt, we are working in balance with nature and the environment and social media, even people who just the business becomes healthier and read the news for a living. Which is stronger, we can reduce the amount of input that the use of the great in many ways, puts you in products that have to necessarily contact with the people who are watching and listening, but do you increase in price, we can reduce the massive amount of food waste, and we not struggle with that . dont need to produce more food, watching and listening, but do you not struggle with that . I dont struggle. You will have the good, just need to eat and consume that the bad, the ugly always but i love it most of the time. People are which we do produce. What extra support could the government offered to farmers, to make this process engaging, very positive and for those who are naysayers, you have to easierfor you . Overlook that. That is part of what to farmers, to make this process easier for you . Theres lots of is being in the industry. There will be praise and rejection but opportunities, particularly if we everybody has been very positive and have an agricultural bill and moved away from area based payment i was at rock fields in wales towards actions and methods that recording and putting out some of support that carbon capture, those the new stuff just a little recording and putting out some of sustainability farming practices and the new stuffjust a little bit of what we are doing now, and just actually reward and dry that change having that support in the studio in the farming industry, to make those changes happen, so that we felt amazing. Everyone was, go, have healthier, betterfood, and we girl for me i use it as a can protect the environment for our highlight. It is clear you are having a ball. Enjoy next week. It long term Food Security, because if we continue to farm the way we are across the planet Food Security is going to be injeopardy in very is great to meet you. Thank you for short years to come. Over the years, abbey road studios unusually windy weather for this became almost synonymous with the time of year. Unfortunately we have had to get used to the rain and yes band, who recorded so much of their music there. They were the most we do have more spells of heavy rain and thunderstorms to come in the famous band in the world, but even next couple of days. But added to they may have underestimated the this time, those Gale Force Winds. A impact those short few minutes would have as they emerge from the lovely day out there at the moment studios, came out onto the road and, but lets get on to what is happening tonight because that rain at exactly 11 35am, brought comes in quite quickly across many backwards and forwards over the parts of england, wales, Northern Ireland, toward scotland by morning. Can i ask you detectives have described a machete attack on a policeman in east london to stop a second, look at me for a overnight as frenzied, unprovoked and shocking. Minute while you put your microphone on. We arejust the Patrol Officer was stabbed minute while you put your microphone several times, during on. We are just going to get her to a routine vehicle stop of a van, sort that out for a second, then we in the leyton area. Scotland yard says he was seriously will go back to it, rather than stop it entirely. We are going to be injured but will recover. A man in his 50s has been arrested. Talking about the impact that it is having, ina talking about the impact that it is andy moore is at the scene having, in a second. Can we hear in east london for us. Helen . Dont worry, it happens. My we canjoin him now. Andy. Yes, phone rang. Is it now working . Have weve had an update on the last hour on the condition of the police we got helen . Yes, because you need to hear this one, because it is a officer. He is said to be stable in very important forecast. We were hospital, despite his multiple talking about how rainy it was in injuries. He was due to have an operation this morning on his hand. Scotland, and why. This is why. Low that hand was injured as he tried to pressure yesterday evening. We had fend off the assailant with a machete. 0ne eyewitness said he saw been discussing how inclement it has been, all of the event is being the Police Officer lying on the road cancelled, with the weather. Just behind me, and he was being given the last couple of weeks weve had cpr by his colleagues. He said the this low pressure one after the other, coming in, and this is Police Officer was motionless and another in the succession that caused this. The one that we are the eyewitness taught at the time that he was dead. Thought at the talking about, the big one coming in has had implications, as we have time. Heard yesterday. We heard about the it should have been a routine stop, bird masters festival being but it turned into what police described as a frenzied, cancelled. We had some lovely shots two minute long attack. After a brief police pursuit, a large white van was pulled over. From the balloon fiesta in bristol, the driver, in his 50s, became aggressive and pulled out a machete. We could see the van they brought some events forward and the officer was there. Because of the poor Weather Forecast for tomorrow and saturday. The he just got attacked and obviously me and the missus were standing weather might impact at balloon fiesta, we have to show that because here, talking about it. The force will not be with us, the we felt really sorry, not only full force of the wind will be with because it was a person lying on the floor, but on top of it us, but what we want is the nice course of the sunshine and the fine because it was a Police Officer, weather so come on a serious note, like the person who is actually responsible for weather so come on a serious note, our safety and stuff on the streets. We have got this nasty weather as the Police Investigation coming our way. Began, the officer was we have got this nasty weather coming ourway. In we have got this nasty weather being treated in hospital coming our way. In terms of how often this happens, we were for his injuries. A wound to his head required stitches. Discussing this yesterday, i think he was due to undergo an operation for the injuries to his hands, sustained what is interesting about this nasty low pressure is how windy it is in trying to fend off his attacker. Going to be inland. Normally, you police say the incident would get a big low pressure system, was filmed quite a deep area of low pressure to on a body worn cameras but they are still seeking witnesses. The far south, and all of those the members of the public things still apply to this one over there i would coming in tomorrow. The winds could urge you to come forward. Be gusty around the coast, 60 miles while weve got a man in custody, we need to get to the bottom an hour, possibly more, but this one of why this happened and the fuller picture will be accompanied by gusty winds of what happened just before and then during the attack. Inland, because of the way that the the Prime Minister has paid tribute to the bravery of the Police Officer. Low pressure inland, because of the way that the low pressure lips, so 30 50 mph what this underscores, gusts of wind inland will be for me, is the bravery of our Police People, detrimental, because the trees are who actually go towards danger to keep us safe. In full leaf. I had more events will 0ur sympathies are obviously with the officer and his family. Be affected over the weekend. A i think youve got to give officers the confidence festival in the north has asked to that they need, that be called off at short notice. It is when they ask somebody coming frustrating for the organisers and towards them, who may be carrying a knife, which is a danger to them everybody who bought tickets. Yes, and to everybody around them, that they have smaller events, in matter when they to have the power and the confidence to do that emotionally had to rejig the sailing events challenging thing and do stop and search. Because of the bad weather. It a man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. Affects people working in the police say its not being treated mountains, going out on a small boat, not a good idea in this as a terrorist attack. Weather. These are just the warnings to show you how wide they are, you just some more information to bring dont see that many in the uk in the you. We now know that the man who summer dont see that many in the uk in the summer months, but there are so many was arrested is 56 years old. We of them at the moment. This is for know that the second Police Officer the wind later tomorrow. This is for in that patrol car, who actually the wind later tomorrow. This is for made the arrest was a female police the rain sweeping across all parts, of course we havent spoken about the rain so much but it has been very wet in some areas, with flash officer. Thank you, andy. Flooding in Northern England and parts of scotland. This is for saturday, widespread gales, and joining us now is pc rob monk, again if you saw the wince trends in who was off work for eight months scotla nd again if you saw the wince trends in scotland and Northern Ireland in after he was stabbed in the leg whilst on duty in northampton in 2014. Autumn, you could cope with them, but against england and wales in the thank you forjoining us. Tell us densely populated areas, this is briefly what happened to you while going to have quite an impact. It is you were on duty. Never a good forecast when we are talking about this sort of weather. It is brewing up in the atlantic, it is unusually far south, this area of distorted sound. Rob, im so sorry, low pressure. Quite a significant drop in pressure since i spoke to you yesterday, which is unusual in itself. It does drop 20 millibars we need to stop you, because we and that is heading our way, and cannot hear you very well. We will because it is such a large area of see if we can do something with the low pressure, it will affect all sound and get back to you. Do bear parts, be it with the rain of the wind. It is almost a calm head of with us the stone today. It is lovely out there has been a dramatic rise, in the number of women there, we have more sunshine, the and girls caught carrying knives in england. Winds are light, but dont be figures obtained by bbc news, fooled, because already this show a 73 increase in offences over the past five yea rs, evening, that rain starts to rush with nearly 6,000 cases recorded. Into the south west. For three or youth workers say some women end up carrying weapons for gangs, because theyre less likely to be four hours we could see heavy, stopped by the police. Sarah corker reports. Persistent rain and that will still be around tomorrow morning across the Central Lowlands of scotland. The first thing i would go do is run for a knife. Not a great rush hour or a day for i would go for a knife the festival goers, but that should then spread northwards. Behind it, we get drier weather, a breeder, for threaten, cut. A time, then the wind starts to push more showers in. The shower should as a teenager, carrying push through quickly across england a knife was part of everyday life and louise ann. And wales, because of the strength then, in her 20s, it was a way of the win, but nevertheless, they to protect herself will be heavy. Some of them will be in abusive relationships. I remember i used to have thundery as well. And there will be knives in my backpack. I used it to threaten people. Some squally winds as well. By the give me what youve got, end of the day there is winds take it off of them. Expected to be gusting around 50 mph i used to sleep with a knife under my bed, because i started to get quite paranoid. In southern and western approaches and that when strength continues as we go through the evening and i remember my boyfriend bought me overnight into saturday. We are this. He actually bought me knives. Data shows women carrying still getting temperatures today into the low 20s, just because we knives is on the rise. Have got tropical air mixed in with in the west midlands, these weapons were found hidden a low pressure which is why we are in a designer handbag. Expecting such large waves, about 1520 expecting such large waves, about 15 20 millimetres and double that in women are often overlooked or ignored when it comes to tackling britains problem with knife crime. Highland areas with showers, so its framed as a male problem. During saturday, england and wales should have that sustained period of but figures obtained by the bbc strong winds, coastal gales, gales show that, on average, over hills, gas inland, 40 50 mph, one woman is caught carrying a knife here in the north of we dont see that in the south in england every single day. The winter let alone in august, in england, theres been a 73 then, heavy, slow moving shadows increase in knife possession cases involving women containing further north on and off in the last five years. For much of the day. The ground is since 2014, theres been more saturated so that is not good news. Than 5,800 cases of women caught carrying knives. Something a little quieter by sunday but much colder air. We have tropical air mixed in with that around a quarter of those involved coming in and by sundays, something girls under the age of 18. We have got girls that stab. More akin, to the chopping and changing that we would see during youth workers say some the autumn months. The details on women willingly carry knives the autumn months. The details on to rob people, the website. I will have more for 00 33 17,053 2147483051 53 25,369 you later, with my mic switched on 2147483051 53 25,369 4294966103 13 29,430 throughout while others are vulnerable and exploited by men. Theyre wanting to belong. Theyre yearning for that so much that it doesnt matter what they go through in order to do it. So, knife, gun, drugs theyre the couriers for it, you know . Is it because theyre less likely, they think, to get searched by police . Well, theyre not going to get stopped by police. Across england and wales, seven forces, including South Yorkshire police, have been given extra powers to tackle Violent Crime. Police specialist officers target known trouble spots and have a more visible community presence. I dont think its any more nuanced for women than it is for men. Its about vulnerable young people getting drawn into the fringes of organised crime. But others say part of the problem is the perception that women dont commit knife crimes and there is need for more policies targeted specifically at women. Because they dont end up in the criminaljustice system in the same way as boys, the focus is not there. So, i think we need to be looking at our youth offending teams, the services that were providing for young people, to make sure were actually addressing the issues that are causing young girls to get involved, as well as the majority who are young boys. Women carrying knives has often been described as a hidden problem, but with the numbers increasing, the pressure is now on police and politicians to tackle it. Sarah corker, bbc news. With me now is Elaine Donnellon from 0peration shutdown. Welcome. Can you tell us what 0peration shutdown is . Welcome. Can you tell us what operation shutdown is . We are campaigners, workers, teachers, mothers, and the people we represent and fight for our bereaved mothers, siblings, fathers. And knife crime is one of the things that brought you together . Unfortunately it is the thing that brought us together. We campaignfor the thing that brought us together. We campaign for people who are victims of Serious Violence so there is crossover with violence against women, ive seen recently a pregnant mother and her unborn child being stabbed to death, and we are a lobbying campaign to try and get Serious Violence given the proportionate attention it deserves and action that is warranted. These figures that show that more women and girls are being caught with knives, how much is that down to them being stopped rather than choosing to carry weapons . Thats a good question because that data doesnt let us know how it has been compiled so we dont know if there has been an increase in police stopping young women, so it is hard to tell but overall, there is an increase in people found with bladed weapons or weapons such as guns, so it is probably just weapons or weapons such as guns, so it is probablyjust quite indicative of the fact that there are more people carrying weapons for a variety of reasons now. Also reporting as the top story today, the Police Officer who had been attacked with a machete and very seriously injured in east london. What impact does that have on people who either already carry knives or are thinking of it . What, the actual attack . The reporting of it. The realisation of how much damage these will be these weapons can do. Realisation of how much damage these will be these weapons can dom has been described on your channel in the correct way is a frenzied attack. Every time we hear of such attacks, mostly they are on civilians, children and people. That is how it should be described. We hear incidences of children being stabbed ten, 20 times, and they are never described as frenzied. It might be described as a multiple stabbing and it helps to continue to use the language that actually tells you what it really is, for him to be attacked with a machete is apparent, it is frenzied, but we know that a lot of the increase in violence isnt just the number of stabbings and murders, but actually the nature of the attacks and the increase in wounds inflicted. How do you think this problem, this growing problem, is best tackled . Particularly when you factor in that young women and girls are in some cases been coerced by gangs into carrying weapons like this because the perception is that they are less likely to be stopped . That perception is true. And young women get lost in this debate quite often. And they suffer a lot of hidden traumas, a lot of self harm, they get involved in criminal activity, because of boyfriends, partners, coercion, but women as well. Things have changed. We dont think of ourselves as being the fairer sex and women are as likely, it is not that nuanced, young women are as vulnerable to becoming involved in violence, picking up weapons and getting into that negative criminal. Tell us about something that might give you hope, some good examples of projects which, with time, with investment, might generate the kind of results that we are all hoping for. We need a ten year approach. The government is giving a strategy on Violent Crime and what we need is funding and for some of the organisations that do excellent grassroots work top and down the country. A Public Health approach, a nonjudgemental approach to young people, and what we need a substantial funding for these projects. Quite often they are left with small bits of funding. Which cannot achieve the impact that is really needed. There are thousands of individuals and groups up and down the country working really hard, but it is quite hard to sustain that work, without support from local councils or from sustain that work, without support from local councils orfrom direct, centrally, from government as well. You mentioned the need for a Public Health approach, and the lack of judgment. So things like amnesties so people can hand in weapons that they cannot just throw away because they cannot just throw away because they could become problematic. Amnesty and surrenders is a legal matter and we have seen those amnesty bins, two of the police forces. It is part of a multipronged approach. We need to encourage people to hand in their weapons in a safe way without being criminalised. But we also need to go beyond the blade and the gun and look at the reasons why people were not surrendering their weapons, if they still fear for whatever reason whether it is justified that they think that they should be carrying that weapon whether it is to defend themselves, and we have to say that if you carry a knife, you are at a greater chance of being attacked and killed with your own weapon but we need to look at why people carry knives, because the knife as the instrument, the gun is the instrument, the gun is the instrument, and without all of the support services in place as well, Something Like surrender and amnesty, doesnt work in isolation, it needs to be working together. Elaine donnellon from 0peration shutdown, thank you. Breaking news from essex police. Emergency services were called at 1 40pm today to report that temperatures people had been recovered from the water near clacton pier, and that they we re near clacton pier, and that they were being treated on the beach. We are all in attendance a essex police and the three casualties are still being treated and remain in a critical position. We have no further details but we will keep an eye on that. Three people have been recovered from the water near cla cton, recovered from the water near clacton, with two still in critical condition. Climate scientists are warning that High Consumption of meat and dairy produce around the world, is fuelling Global Warming. Researchers say intensive farming releases carbon into the atmosphere, helping to raise temperatures. Now the United NationsIntergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says more people could be fed using less land, if there was a cut in meat consumption, and a switch to plant based diets. Our environment alanyst, roger harrabin, reports from geneva, this alpine landscape was once covered by forest. The trees sucked Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere and regulated the climate. Then, humans cleared some of the land for food. But cattle burp methane, and that strongly heats the atmosphere. This sort of low intensity grazing may produce protein from poor soil, and it does have some environmental benefits, but it still creates more Greenhouse Gases than growing plant protein. Scientists meeting here in the alps are not saying weve all got to go vegan to protect the climate. They are saying that we do need to cut down on red meat and dairy produce, and shift on towards eating more vegetables. And that message may not go down very well here, in a region that is so heavily dependent on cheese and meat. We need to do what we can on the land, but actually it is important to maintain Food Production and so there will always be some emissions on land. So, in fact, we have to do as much as we can with the energy and industry and other sectors, as well. We have to do everything now really, if were going to have any chance of avoiding the worst impacts of Climate Change. Debate here has been fraught because the way we use the land is so complex. Among the experts recommendations are, on biofuels, limiting the area used to grow trees to be burned to make electricity. This could conflict with feeding the world. 0n deforestation, working harder to protect the trees that protect us from climate heating. 0n desertification, finding ways to feed people that dont involve degrading the soil through overgrazing. Then, there is the way we eat. In the west, we over consume meat and dairy. That is bad for our health, it is bad for climate, it is bad for water, it is bad for land degradation. If we were able to reduce that consumption in the west, of meat and dairy, then we could have significant benefits for the climate, but also for our health. Scientists also want to stop food being discarded, because wasting food means the Greenhouse Gases created to produce fertilisers to grow the crops have been for nothing. A charity in geneva redistributes waste food. Here they are taking stale bread and turning it into new cookies. This avoids having to produce fresh flour to make the cookies. Here is a positive sign. These peat moors in the north of england were previously drained, so animals can graze. When peat is exposed to the air, it gives off Greenhouse Gases. So now they are blocking up the channels to soak the peat again. One of the easier options in what the Scientists Say have become an increasingly desperate attempt to stop the planet overheating. Lets go back to our top story. Detectives have described a machete attack on a policeman in east london overnight as frenzied, unprovoked and shocking. The Patrol Officer was stabbed several times, during a routine vehicle stop of a van, in the leyton area. Scotland yard says he was seriously injured but will recover. A 56 year old man has been arrested. Joining us now is pc rob monk, who was off work for eight months after he was stabbed in the leg whilst on duty in northampton in 2014. Thank you for bearing with us will be sorted out the sound. Just briefly, tell us what happened to you. In the evening we were called to reports of a man causing damage in the street to cars. As we try to negotiate a rest, the man struck my leg with a weapon. What injury did you sustain temperatures at the top of my left thigh, i was off for 12 days and then i had to have surgery. How long has it taken you to recover . The Recovery Process is ongoing. Certain bits heal, but then there are the scars that take a lot longer to heal, more damaging, clinically im back to work, ive been back and front line duty for the last year. What sort of support did you get with the psychological trauma which you would imagine you suffered . Absolutely, support from family and colleagues and professional support was good. It is vital to have a lot of people around you. The process is quite a slow and ongoing journey. But he did not rush it and take baby steps. Just going into work and putting the uniform on, that was the first step for me. Then you just do it bit by bit. How did you approach the return to work knowing that it was on the line of duty that you were so badly injured . It was a long journey, really, but it was getting in the right mindset that you have a plan in place and you set the goals and make sure they are achievable. It is far better to have small achievable goals, putting the uniform on, then the next day, start going out with the colleagues but not go to anyjobs, and then inside you are back at the front of the queue, ready to enforce the law. What above all gave you the confidence to keep going as a Police Officer . The thing that made me join the police and the first place. 0ne thing to serve the public around me. Wanting to. I want to help people. And i dont know what else i would do for a job. It is more of a vocation than an employment for me. It certainly has to be, thank you very much for talking to us. And long may your recovery continue. Thank you. More people than ever before attended accident and Emergency Departments in england last month. New figures also show record numbers of patients waiting for routine operations. Our Health Correspondent lauren moss is here. We will try and look at some graphics. These waiting time figures have been published. Some different figures released today. On the same week the Prime MinisterBoris Johnson announced big Spending Plans for the nhs and how it is one of the government s top priority, lets start with the figures from a e, last month was one of the busiest everin last month was one of the busiest ever in terms of attendances, 2. 27 million attendances to a e, the busiest month on record, that beating the numbers set injuly last year, an increase of 4 . Going into those further to give you some more context, more patients were seen within the target time set than ever before, 1. 7 million patients and 86. 5 , but 275,000 patients are waiting longer than the four hours. The government target is to see 95 of patients within that four hour window but that hasnt been achieved for a number of years. But with the warm temperatures last month nhs england said staff pulled out all the stops to see as many patients as possible and visits to a e have been increasing in the warmer months, slightly seen in the winter months also but nhs celsius say that they we re also but nhs celsius say that they were generally busy and notjust because of the heatwave. What about routine operations . This is nonemergency procedures, knee replacements, cataracts, and that list has climbed up to 4. 4 million in england, 4. 4 million, the highest since records began in 2007. Those waiting longer than 18 weeks for their treatment again has also climbed, to over 600,000. That is the highest in a decade, and again not meeting those government targets. There has been a lot of reaction today and discussion into why these figures are so high. The pension tax row might have something to do with it. Doctors may not want to do with it. Doctors may not want to do with it. Doctors may not want to do as many extra shifts, but the Royal College of surgeons has lots of it comes down to beds, they say that there needs to be 3000 extra beds, to try and clear the backlog of those waiting for this nonemergency surgery, and they also wa nt nonemergency surgery, and they also want there to be a five year plan specifically to tackle this issue. 0ne specifically to tackle this issue. One thing is clear, these numbers indicate that the nhs is under a lot of pressure in england. Russian Officials Say radiation levels briefly spiked in the Northern City of severodvinsk after an explosion at a naval testing facility. Two people were killed and six injured. Lets speak to our moscow correspondent, Sarah Rainsford. There are lots of questions about what happened at this naval testing facility. We know there was an explosion. We were told by the Defence Ministry this was during testing of a missile engine. Six people were injured and two people died. The Defence Ministry initially said there were no dangerous emissions from that explosion or the fire that followed but the local administration and the nearby city has said they did record a brief spike in radiation levels were about 4o spike in radiation levels were about 40 minutes. They say the levels were significantly higher than they ought to be. At that point, when the sensors detected by radiation there was an automatic instruction to people to stay inside, to close windows. Children were told to go back inside the kindergarten, and so on until the danger had passed. We understand the radiation levels are now back to normal. As for the white sea near this testing facility, the order to close that area came before this accident happened, potentially perhaps in connection with testing that was due to take place. There still some confusion about what actually happened and the order of events, certainly with others reporting that the order came later. We are trying to clarify that but at the moment what we know is that there has been an extremely serious and rather embarrassing incident for the Russian Military, just a few days after a massive explosion at an ammunition store in western siberia, where there was a huge choir and shrapnel raining around a very large radius around that munitions dump. How widely available is information about where Radioactive Material is keptin about where Radioactive Material is kept in russia . This particular story if you like is about the testing of missiles. We dont know why there might be some kind of Nuclear Material involved in the testing of a missile. We dont know why that might have been a spike in radiation. We know that the atomic submarine fleet, part of the northern fleet, is based near to this site where the missiles being tested, some of them are for use on these atomic submarines. So it is difficult to get precise information from the Defence Ministry in particular and these areas themselves, where the navy base, these are Close Military towns. So getting precise information is difficult. Even from civilian administration, officials at the moment, the information coming through from officials at the moment is contradictory. Sarah, thank you. A teenager is to face trial next year, accused of throwing a six year old boy from a viewing platform at the tate modern gallery in london. The 17 year old appeared this morning at the old bailey, accused of attempted murder. This was a relatively short procedural hearing. We are in the early stages of this case. The 17 year old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, because he is under 18, didnt really say much beyond confirming his name and date of birth, and the fact that his nationality is british. He hasnt yet indicated whether he intends to plead guilty or not guilty to the charge of attempted murder. But his defence team said they will order a psychiatric report. They want a psychiatrist to assess whether he is actually fit to make that plea or not. We will probably not know that until the next hearing, which is scheduled for early november. He is accused of throwing the six year old french boy off the viewing platform at tate modern on sunday afternoon in what is thought to have been an unprovoked attack. At the earlier hearing in the Magistrates Court earlier this week, we heard how serious the boys injuries are, he has broken legs and arms, fractured spine and a bleed on his brain. There has been no further update on his condition today but it was described then as critical but stable. At court today there were two representatives from the french consulate. We assume that they are here on behalf of the boys family who were on holiday visiting the city when this happened on sunday. The teenager, the 17 year old, has been told he will be remanded in youth custody. There will be that next procedural hearing expected in november and a provisional trial date has been set for february next year. It could last up to two weeks. Danjohnson at the old bailey. Time for a look at the weather. Heres Helen Willetts with the details. It has not been great for the last couple of weeks. Weve seen low pressure after low pressure giving lots of wet weather. We have also been concerned about the win. Some quite spectacular effects of the couple of hours of intense rain and thunderstorms around edinburgh for the festival goers. And it was quite a localised event. Look at those on the stone clustered around edinburgh and the fife region, just for a couple of hours, giving more than an inch of rain in some places, up to 4o inch of rain in some places, up to 40 millimetres in some places, and thats the consequences after so much rain, the ground being saturated. You will ask me if we do more. I am, and i know the answer because these events are being cancelled i thought we would enjoy what was an earlier start, their balloon fiesta in bristol this morning. Some fantastic scenes. They watch in the morning because that is when you get the lightest wins. And they are going to get two three bay is unfortunately of strong winds. So, one of us has got to say it, but the force that will be with us is going to be the force of strong winds and this is a step forward, before we had such great media communications, nobody knew about these system is coming in, so it is very good, it is sensible, it is good to hear. But still some wet weather. To sum it up, we have got some really strong winds to come in. We have come on, there we go, some very strong winds to come in. U nfortu nately, very strong winds to come in. Unfortunately, more rain on what we have already seen this month, weve seen a months worth of rain, two months was multi at work in some places, affecting many parts of the uk but this time we have a Gale Force Winds to go with it, this large swell as well, overtopping the coast, so if you are walking along the promenade for example, you see there large waves coming in. Not good for any outdoor event. And weather warnings at this time of year . We have seen more than our fairshare year . We have seen more than our fair share over the last fortnight. We have the win for tomorrow, mostly to the south and west of england. The rain is for all parts of the uk, virtually. That is for tomorrow, friday. This is a drawn out event. 0n friday. This is a drawn out event. On saturday, really strong winds and quite sustained throughout the day in england and wales. So unusually windy for the time of year. But it lasts much of the day, then you have heavy, slow moving thunderstorms, which have caused real problems as well, and that is on saturday. By sunday it is blowing itself away and returning to normal conditions with a bit of cold air. This has tropical air, which is when you get the heaviest rain during the summer. It has got more energy, warmer air holds more water, so heavier rain. I dont mean to laugh but theres lots to ta ke dont mean to laugh but theres lots to take on board at the moment. You have this developing area of low pressure which is deepening quite rapidly for autumn and winter which is usually when you see these. So you have got that deep area of low pressure. It is unusually far south, thatis pressure. It is unusually far south, that is one of the main concerns, and it is large, filling most of the atlantic. Today, the calm before the storm, beautiful weather with very few showers, just a covering across the north, and it feels quite warm, with light winds, but dont be fooled, gets going quite quickly through this evening and overnight. We start to see there is rain for band strolling towards the south west. Then this tropical air, heavy rain pushing its way northwards in toward scotland just in time for the rush hour. Could be quite nasty with that heavy rain and given that we had all that rain yesterday the potential for some further surface water flooding. To the north, and behind that we see some drier, clearer weather coming in, push pushing the rain away, then we had at low Pressure Centre approaching, so that the showers become more prevalent. There will be some heavy ones with candour, some mcafee winds, and the low pressure closing and will be picking up. So by the end of the day gusts of wind in excess of 50 mph in the south and west. Bearing in mind it has tropical air. We are still achieving temperatures into the low to mid 20s. But inconsequential, really. That low pressure further northwards and eastwards during saturday, with his tightly packed isobars, these lines that indicate the wind strength, blowing a gale around the coasts, strong winds for all of england and wales. What is unusual about this is how strong and gusty winds will be in line. Trees are in full leaf, so gusts of up to 50 mph, 60 or more around the coast, and the other part of the story is the slow moving, heavy showers further north, which are still going on sunday, but they are slowly easing away. So, an improving picture, if you like, going into sunday, then we have that blast of cold polar air coming in from the north. Then the temperatures as the other element, it is worth pointing out this will bea it is worth pointing out this will be a fairly typical for the autumn in the uk, but very unusual as an event for august. And pretty much, it will have some impact, as we are seeing already, so if you have plans, stay tuned to the forecasts. We will keep you updated. Un scientists have warned that drastic changes are needed in global land use, agriculture and human diets, to limit Global Warming. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says unsustainable farming and deforestation is having an increasingly negative effect on the environment and one solution is for people in rich countries to eat less intensively farmed meat. 0ur science editor, david shukman, has been to one leading european Plant Research centre to get reaction. Cutting back on meat is a good idea for adults who are healthy. Its not necessarily a good idea to completely cut it out. There are groups that really need some meats, pregant women, children, the elderly, but most people in western countries just eat too much meat. 0n the other hand, you have large groups of the population in africa and asia who do not eat enough meat, so we will need to find a new balance. But animals are essential in the overall agricultural system in the world because they can eat some of the food waste and they can also convert grass into something we can eat. A lot of people, including young people, are very worried about Climate Change and where the world is heading. What is your sense about whether there are solutions . I understand the worry but i am also convinced that there are Many Solutions and that we can adjust to the pace of change. We have learnt to deal with droughts, we have learnt to deal with floods in the past and we will be able to do that. We will also develop new crops with new genetic characteristics, new crops that actually can harness the sunlight even better, so all that will help us in the right direction in the next few decades. A new National ArtificialIntelligence Laboratory is to be created by nhs england. The Health Secretary matt hancock says Artificial Intelligence can improve the treatment of conditions from cancer to heart disease. Heres our health and science correspondent, james gallagher. Artificial intelligence is already showing its potential in medicine. Algorithms can analyse scans of organs, such as the eye or heart, to diagnose disease. 0ther ais are being developed to predict cancer survival or which patients are most likely to miss appointments. Health secretary matt hancock says Artificial Intelligence has enormous power to improve peoples treatment and to save lives. Hes announced £250 million will be spent on boosting the role of ai within the nhs in england. He also expects the nhss National Ai Lab to organise hospitals more efficiently to help doctors spend more time with patients. The power of Artificial Intelligence to improve medicine, to save lives, to improve the way treatments are done, that power is enormous. In this country, weve got an opportunity really to be one of the leading countries in the world at using this new technology. Increasing use of ai will also pose challenges for the health service, from Training Staff to enhancing cybersecurity and ensuring patient confidentiality. James gallagher, bbc news. A footbridge connecting two halves of a medieval fortress at the legendary site of King Arthurs Castle is opening this weekend. Hundreds of years ago, a narrow land crossing at Tintagel Castle in cornwall collapsed into the sea, leaving visitors with a steep climb if they wanted to explore the ruins. The new bridge will reconnect the site, for anyone brave enough to walk the crossing. Fiona lamdin has been to see it, and a warning, her report contains flash photography. For centuries, Tintagel Castle has been split in half, divided by the sea. But, for the First Time Since the middle ages, the island and the mainland have been reunited with a new footbridge. People can actually walk from the original entrance, through the mainland courtyard, across this bridge over into the island where the great hall lies. Its about creating a sense of wonderfor people, and also for people to be able to understand the actual castle better. Because they can actually progress through it as our ancestors did. It has taken nine months to build the 70 metre bridge, using 47 tons of steel and 40,000 cornish slate tiles. But it actually isnt a new concept. If you go back to the 15th century, the castle was still one, joined by a narrow neck of land before it eroded and fell into the sea. It is one of the most important places in britain for that period after the romans. There was a myth that this is where arthur was conceived, so it is very closely connected with arthurian legend. That is probably why richard, who was earl of cornwall in the 13th century, decided to build this later castle on this site. We are finding incredible stuff on this site. Over 100 buildings, it was bigger than london as far as we know, at the time. For the last 100 years the only way of getting from the island to the mainland was this way, lets go. Its a 57 metre drop down to the sea. Well, ive counted them, theres 272 steps and, i can tell you, the last few are pretty steep, phew. I think it looks absolutely an amazing achievement and i think it fits in really well with the landscape. If i brought my elderly mother along, then definitely the bridge. This landscape has been without its crossing for hundreds of years. The earth and rock now replaced by steel, reuniting a divided castle. Fiona lamdin, bbc news. Time for the Business News now, ben is here. Some breaking news. Yesterday we we re some breaking news. Yesterday we were talking about inter rail. Yesterday we had the decision that the uk train operators were no longer going to be part of the inter rail scheme, the one that allows people to travel around the uk on allows people to travel around the ukona allows people to travel around the uk on a single train ticket. They said they had a dispute with the eurorail group that manages the scheme so the uk operators were no longer going to be part of it. There was a huge backlash because obviously although people in britain could still buy tickets and use them on trains across the continent, they couldnt, for example, if they were starting outside of london, use that to cover the leg to london. It would have had an impact on people and anyone visiting the uk from abroad would not have been able to use a pass to travel around the uk while they were here. It was the hot topic on my evening dog walk with friends. It was. But now they are going to stay pa rt it was. But now they are going to stay part of it. There has been a reversal. Less than 24 hours after it was announced, the train operators, the Rail Delivery Group which represents the rail operators has said they never wanted to leave inter rail. They said, following the strong reaction to news of our departure, the company which runs inter rail have renewed talks. We are pleased to tell passengers that we have reached agreement and we will be remaining both part of the inter rail and eurorail passes. Sometimes a bit of a backlash, a reaction has rapid effects. Just shows how valued those passes well bya shows how valued those passes well by a lot of people. A rite of passage, inter railing around europe, looks like that will continue. What else have you got for us . Lets talk about car thefts because you might imagine that as ca rs because you might imagine that as cars get more sophisticated, so with the security features. But it seems not. Some of the uks newest and most popular cars are at risk of being stolen in seconds by exploiting weaknesses in the keyless Entry Systems, the systems that allow drivers to open and stop their ca rs allow drivers to open and stop their cars without a key. What car magazine tested seven different models fitted with Keyless Entry and start systems and we can speak to one of those involved. Claire evans, the consumer editor at what car. This sounds extraordinarily. How on earth do people manage to circumvent these systems which you would imagine to have encryption and unique codes. The latest systems because they are keyless, they give you Keyless Entry which is great for the owners of the cars, the key fob emitsa the owners of the cars, the key fob emits a code and automatically unlocks the doors but criminals can get sophisticated scanning devices and also pick up that code and that lets them act as if they are the owner of the car, use another device to scan the code again and the locks popped to scan the code again and the locks popped open. They can do the same to stop the engine. This is the biggest problem that the other security systems, they are not activated because the car thinks it is the owner. What can people do to avoid falling victim if they have one of these keyless car Entry Systems . Falling victim if they have one of these keyless car entry system57m you have a very new car, it is worth going back to the dealership to ask about extra security measures because some manufacturers are fitting motion sensors to the key fobs and some of these can be retrofitted, so that is one option worth considering. Most cars are stolen at night and the Sensor Technology will cut on and turn off the codes emitted from the key fob after a couple of minutes, that means the car cant be stolen. What you have found seems to be, certainly not a one off issue, it is affecting different models. It is the industry doing anything to address this vulnerability . The vulnerability is on because up to ten years old and it is only in the la st ten years old and it is only in the last year that manufacturers have started to do something, some introduced these motion sensor key fobs, others ultra wide band radio frequencies, so the signals cant be connected by criminals. Claire eva ns, connected by criminals. Claire evans, consumer editor at what car, thank you very much indeed. Engineers for Network Rail Scotland are trying to clear floodwater from the main edinburgh to glasgow nine after five trains became stuck last night. It happened after the drainage system was overwhelmed by torrential rain. Wading through water on scotlands Busiest Railway line. Trains havent been travelling through the winchburgh tunnel in west lothian since last night. Some passengers travelling between edinburgh and glasgow were stuck as the water level started to rise. Rail replacement buses have been running from linlithgow all day. Im heading to london on the 12 oclock train, so slightly worried i might not manage to make it but they have assured me that i will and if for any reason i dont i can get on the next train down. Yesterdays flash flooding caused disruption on the roads too. This cyclist near Edinburgh Airport seemed undeterred. But its the rail network that has been worst affected. This is the winchburgh tunnel. Engineers have been here all day trying to clear the water but progress has been slow. Weve got teams on site really quickly and a series of pumps out there, pumping out the water. At one stage the water was two feet above the running rail so thats a really challenging volume of water in a difficult place to access. We also have the fire brigade on hand to give us support and that water is starting to fall quickly now, so were hopeful we will be able to get in and inspect the track soon to make sure it is safe to reopen. Higher capacity pumps are being brought in to try and clear the water, but scotrail says its still too soon to know when the line will be able to reopen. Katie hunter, bbc news, winchburgh. Fans of the beatles have been gathering in london, to mark 50 years since one of the most iconic photographs of the band was taken. The picture showsjohn lennon leading the group over a zebra crossing outside the abbey road studios in north london, where most of their songs were recorded. The image is now one of the most famous in pop. Lizo mzimba reports from abbey road. For half a century, fans from all over the world fans of all ages have come here to recreate and, in their own way, feel a connection to perhaps the most famous band ever. Coming from belgium and i am here for thursday at abbey road. Abbey road is special because it is the last beatles recording. We are coming from mexico and it is special because we really are fans of the beatles, and were excited to be here in london. We like the music. I come from uruguay and the beatles are special, and i like the music. All you need is love. 0ver the years, abbey road studios became almost synonymous with the band, who recorded so much of their music there. They were the most famous band in the world but even they may have underestimated the impact those short few minutes would have, as they emerged from the studios there, came out onto the road and, at exactly 11 35, walked backwards and forwards over the crossing while photographer Iain Macmillan took six quick shots. The fifth was chosen and entered music history. Come together. The abbey road album is particularly special to fans as it represents the last studio recording sessions to involve all four beatles together. Half a century on, things were a little busier than that day in 1969, the police eventually having to intervene to control the fans blocking the road. And almost 50 years to the minute since the famous shot was taken, four members of a tribute band recreated what has become an image that encapsulates what the beatles meant to so many. Lizo mzimba, bbc news, abbey road. For those of you wondering, martin is still here, she has just run down to the studio. We will get the weather with helen and martin will be back with you. Already we are hearing of many events being either cancelled or rescheduled due to the impending Severe Weather which will start to arrive on our shores later this afternoon. Particularly friday and saturday will bring us some very climate weather. Usual you might say for autumn but certainly very unusual in august given that so many people are outdoors. This is the developing system, the developing deep area of low pressure which will bring Stormy Weather to many parts of the uk in the form of heavy rain, again on saturated ground and very windy weather. Ahead of it, some fine weather, just a few shows to end the day and then through the evening, that is when the rain really gets going across the south west, pushes northwards across many parts of england, wales, Northern Ireland. Certainly not a cold night. An increasingly muggy one in the south. The rain taking longer to arrive in scotland but a wet morning rush across the central lowla nds wet morning rush across the Central Lowlands of scotland, not great for the Edinburgh Festival goers. Behind it dry weather but that will not last for long before the shower start to come in close to that area of low pressure. As they do we will see the wins escalate, so the showers will be quite heavy, some thundery and they could have quite saudi wins with their showers. They whence will escalate anyway ahead of that rain in the north and particularly later in the south and west where gus will approach 55, even 60 mph. Temperatures in the mid to late 20s because of tropical air wrapped in rich has taken up most of the northern hemisphere. A really strong west, south westerly wind will bring inland gusts of 30, 40 mph. Very unusual for august and with the trees in full if, that can bring down some branches. It looks like it will be another very wet day for parts of Northern Ireland, up into scotland and Northern England. A slight improvement with the rain and wind as we go into sunday but temperatures dip away as we get some polaraircoming into the temperatures dip away as we get some polar air coming into the north. As ever, all the warning details are on the website. Hello, youre watching afternoon live im martine croxall. Today at 4pm. The Prime Minister praises the bravery of a policeman left critically injured in a machete attack in east london. Borisjohnson says more money will be spent on frontline policing. What it shows to me is the vital importance of investing in policing, thats why were putting another 20,000 officers out on the street. A sharp rise in the number of women and girls carrying knives in England Police have found blades hidden in babies prams and designer handbags. I used to have knives in my backpack, i would use it to threaten people, give me what you have got. Takeit people, give me what you have got. Take it off them. Eating less meat could help slow down Global Warming, according to climate scientists. Flooding closes the Main Railway Line between edinburgh and glasgow. Castle gets a new bridge after almost 500 years. Hello, welcome to bbc news. Andy moore is at the scene in east london for us. Hello. The injured officer is said to bea hello. The injured officer is said to be a man in his 30s, a beat officer with about ten yearss experience. He said to be in a sta ble experience. He said to be in a stable condition in hospital despite those multiple injuries. We understand he is conscious, surrounded by family and friends. But last night where this incident happened one eyewitness said that the injured officer was lying in the road behind me motionless. His clothes had been torn off, fellow officers and paramedics were giving him cpr. The eyewitness thought the officer had been killed. It should have been a routine stop, but it turned into what police described as a frenzied, two minute long attack. After a brief police pursuit, a large white van was pulled over. The driver, in his 50s, became aggressive and pulled out a machete. We could see the van and the officer was there. He just got attacked and obviously me and the missus were standing here, talking about it. We felt really sorry, not only because it was a person lying on the floor, but on top of it because it was a Police Officer, like the person who is actually responsible for our safety and stuff on the streets. As the Police Investigation began, the officer was being treated in hospital for his injuries. A wound to his head required stitches. He was due to undergo an operation for the injuries to his hands, sustained in trying to fend off his attacker. Police say the incident was filmed on a body worn cameras but they are still seeking witnesses. The members of the public who were there i would urge you to come forward. While weve got a man in custody, we need to get to the bottom of why this happened and the fuller picture of what happened just before and then during the attack. The Prime Minister has paid tribute to the bravery of the Police Officer. What this underscores, for me, is the bravery of our Police People, who actually go towards danger to keep us safe. 0ur sympathies are obviously with the officer and his family. I think youve got to give officers the confidence that they need, that when they ask somebody coming towards them, who may be carrying a knife, which is a danger to them and to everybody around them, that they have to have the power and the confidence to do that emotionally challenging thing and do stop and search. A man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. Police say its not being treated as a terrorist attack. And lots of tributes to the bravery of this officer who managed to taser the suspect despite being badly injured. The home secretary said absolutely horrified by the shocking stabbing of one of our brave Police Officers in late and overnight. His courage in the face of danger shows how police put their lives on the line to protect us every day. I wish the officer a full recovery. And it looks as if that is on the way hopefully. Andy moor in east london. There has been a dramatic rise, in the number of women and girls caught carrying knives in england. Figures obtained by bbc news, show a 73 increase in offences over the past five years, with nearly six thousand cases recorded. Youth workers say some women end up carrying weapons for gangs, because theyre less likely to be stopped by the police. Sarah corker reports. The first thing i would go do is run for a knife. I would go for a knife threaten, cut. As a teenager, carrying a knife as part of everyday life for louise ann. Then, in her 20s, it was a way to protect herself in abusive relationships. I remember i used to have knives in my backpack. I used it to threaten people. Give me what youve got, take it off of them. I used to sleep with a knife under my bed, because i started to get quite paranoid. I remember my boyfriend bought me this. He actually bought me knives. Data shows women carrying knives is on the rise. In the west midlands, these weapons were found hidden in a designer handbag. Women are often overlooked or ignored when it comes to tackling britains problem with knife crime. Its framed as a male problem. But figures obtained by the bbc show that, on average, one woman is caught carrying a knife here in the north of england every single day. In england, theres been a 73 increase in knife possession cases involving women in the last five years. Since 2014, theres been more than 5,800 cases of women caught carrying knives. Around a quarter of those involved girls under the age of 18. We have got girls that stab. Youth workers say some women willingly carry knives to rob people, while others are vulnerable and exploited by men. Theyre wanting to belong. Theyre yearning for that so much that it doesnt matter what they go through in order to do it. So, knife, gun, drugs there the couriers for it, you know . Climate scientists are warning that High Consumption of meat and dairy produce around the world, is fuelling Global Warming. Researchers say intensive farming releases carbon into the atmosphere, helping to raise temperatures. Now the United NationsIntergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, says more people could be fed using less land, if there was a cut in meat consumption, and a switch to plant based diets. Our environment analyst, roger harrabin, reports from geneva, where the ipcc has released its findings. This alpine landscape was once covered by forest, the trees sucked Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere and regulated the climate. Then humans cleared some of the land forfood but cattle burp methane and that strongly heats the atmosphere. This sort of low intensity grazing may produce protein from poor soil and it does have some environmental benefits but it create more Greenhouse Gases than growing plant protein. Scientists meeting here in the alps are not saying we have all got to go vegan to protect the climate, they are saying that we do need to cut down on red meat and dairy produce and shift on towards eating more vegetables. And that message may not go down very well here in a region that is so heavily dependent on cheese and meat. We need to do what we can on the land but actually its important to maintain Food Production and so there will always be some emissions on land. So in fact we have to do as much as we can in the energy and industry and other sectors as well. We need to do everything now really if we are to have any chance of avoiding the worst impacts of Climate Change. Debate here has been fraught because of the way we use the land is so complex. Among the experts recommendations are biofuels, limiting the area used to grow trees to be burnt to make electricity. This could conflict with feeding the world. 0n deforestation, working harder to protect the trees that protect us from climate heating. 0n desertification, finding ways to feed people that dont involve degrading the soil through overgrazing. Then there is the way we eat. In the west we over consume meat, dairy. That is bad for our health, it is bad for the climate, it is bad for water, it is bad for land degradation. So if we were able to reduce our consumption in the west of meat and dairy then we could have significant benefits for the climate but also for our health. Scientists also want to stop food being discarded because wasting food means the Greenhouse Gases created to produce the fertilisers to grow the crops have been for nothing. A charity in geneva redistributes waste food. Here they are taking stale bread and turning it into new cookies. This avoids having to produce fresh flour to make the cookies. Here is a positive sign, these peat moors in the north of england were previously drained so animals can graze. When peat is exposed to the air it gives off Greenhouse Gases, so now they are blocking up the channels to soak the peat again. One of the easier options in what for scientists has become an increasingly desperate attempt to stop the planet overheating. Roger harrabin, bbc news. Borisjohnson has declined to comment on rumours, of a general election, simply saying that britain will leave the eu on october 31st. We are going to leave the European Union on october 31st, which is what the people of this country voted for. Its what mps voted for and its what i think the parliamentarians in this country should get on and do, thank you. Youre not concerned about disregarding the will of parliament . I think that mps should get on and deliver on what they have promised over and over and over again to the people of this country, they will deliver on the mandate of 2016 and leave the eu on october 31st. Thank you. 0ur Political Correspondent tom barton is at westminster. Yes you heard borisjohnson theyre obviously saying that mps should deliver brexit by that deadline of 0ctober deliver brexit by that deadline of october the 31st. Lots of position though in parliament to the prospect of that happening if an overarching deal hasnt been agreed in the 84 or so days that remain between now and then between britain and the eu. And so there is a lot of talk among those mps who are opposed to a no deal brexit of how they could stop it. And one of the things that they are talking about is the idea of holding a vote of no confidence in the government. 0ne of holding a vote of no confidence in the government. One of the key members of that group of mps anna soubry is the leader of the group known as the independent group for change warning today though that mps need to be very careful about the idea of vote of no confidence because she says moderate mps wouldnt back Jeremy Corbyn because she says moderate mps wouldnt backJeremy Corbyn becoming Prime Minister and getting the rest of parliament to coalesce around someone else could prove very difficult. What we do want is we want those sensible centrists, moderate members of parliament from both the labour party and the conservative party and all the rest of us coming together. Now, that would require somewhere in the region of around 300 labour and conservative backbenchers to show the sort of courage which sadly so few have shown over the last three years. But nothing is impossible but the danger is that unless that happens, and there is a vote of no confidence, then Boris Johnson chooses when he calls that general election. And im afraid the greatest tragedy would be if we crash out on october the 31st and we hold a general election on november the 1st. And the reason she is nervous is because there are reports this afternoon that advisers to Boris Johnson are saying that if it came to it, if there was a vote of no confidence, a 14 day period had passed where no new government have emerged and there was to be a general election then it falls to borisjohnson to general election then it falls to Boris Johnson to name general election then it falls to borisjohnson to name the date for that general election and his advisers are apparently saying that he would schedule that election for after the 31st of october, allowing after the 31st of october, allowing a no deal brexit to happen by default. And that means that those mps who are opposed to a no deal brexit are now having to think about whether a no confidence vote is the best route to go or whether they should be looking at other ways, other parliamentary mechanisms for halting a possible no deal brexit instead. That though has drawn scorn from those pro brexit campaigners like the brexit party mep claire fox. The majority of mps in the house of commons are at completely at odds with the electorate and in that way the kind of chasm between the electorate and the parliamentary parties of all three parties has revealed that the two party system is no longer fit for purpose. I think that we have seen a terrible situation where democracy is on the line where we were asked by parliament to take a vote, we voted in good faith to leave the European Union and since then they have been doing everything not only to trash our vote but to reduce our reputations by telling us we were stupid or racist or wrong. Now of course it is the middle of summer, westminster is a very quiet place. Mps are all away on their Summer Holidays and that means there isa Summer Holidays and that means there is a lot of speculation. But there are undoubtedly conversations going on between mps on both sides of the brexit argument as we look to september and what is going to be a very, very feeble royal autumn. Officials say radiation levels briefly spiked in the Northern City of severodvinsk , following the blast, which happened during testing of a rocket engine. 0ur moscow correspondent Sarah Rainsford gave us the latest update. Theres an awful lot of questions about what happened up at this naval testing facility. We know there was an explosion up there today. We were told it was during testing of the. Missile engine. Two people died, six people were injured. The Defence Ministry initially said that there we re ministry initially said that there were no dangerous emissions from that explosion or the fire that followed but the local administration in a nearby city has said that they did record a brief spike in radiation levels for about 4o spike in radiation levels for about 40 minutes. They say the levels were significantly higher than they ought to be. At that point when they detected high radiation there was an automatic instruction for people to stay inside, close their windows, children were told to go back inside their classes and so on until the danger had passed. But we do understand that radiation levels are now back to normal. As for the white sea, the area of the gulfjust near this testing facility, we have now been told that the order to close that area came before this accident happened, potentially perhaps in connection with testing that was due to ta ke connection with testing that was due to take place there. But there is still some confusion about what actually happened on the order of events there. Certainly others reporting that the order came later. So were trying to clarify that but at the moment certainly is what we do is there has been an extremely serious and rather embarrassing incident for the Russian Military just a few days after a massive explosion at a munitions store in western siberia where there was a huge fire and shrapnel raining around for a very large radius around for a very large radius around that munitions dump. I have been speaking to our health correspondence about the figures. 0n the same week that borisjohnson announce big Spending Plans for the nhs and how it is following the govans top priority. Lets that with the a e figures. Last month was one of the busiest ever in terms of attendances, people going through the door. 2. 27 million attendances to a e. That was the busiest month on record, beating the numbers that we re on record, beating the numbers that were set injuly last on record, beating the numbers that were set in july last year. On record, beating the numbers that were set injuly last year. In fact, an increase of 4 . I can go into those a little bit further to give you more context. More patients were seen within the four hour target time that has been set than ever before. 1. 7 million patients and 86 and a half percent. But many more we re and a half percent. But many more were waiting longer than the target. The target is to seek 95 of patients within that window but that hasnt been reached for a number of yea rs. Last hasnt been reached for a number of years. Last month we had high temperatures and nhs england say they pulled out all the stops to see as many patients as possible. Visits to a e have generally been increasing in the warmer months as we see in the colder months but they say they were generally busier not just because of the heatwave. What about routine operations, how they faring . This is like knee replacements, cataracts and things like that and that waiting list has climbed to 4. 4 million in england, thatis climbed to 4. 4 million in england, that is 4. 4 million, the highest since records began in 2007. Of those waiting longer than 18 weeks for their treatment to begin has also climbed to over 600,000. That is the highest in more than a decade. And again not meeting those government targets. There has been a lot of reaction to this today and discussion into why these figures are so high. The ongoing pension tax row may have something to do with it with doctors not wanting to do as many extra shifts for example. But the Royal College of surgeons say a lot of it comes down to beds and they say they need to be 3000 extra beds to try and clear this backlog of those waiting for this nonemergency surgery. They also want there to be a five year plan specifically to tackle this issue. 0ne specifically to tackle this issue. One thing is clear though that these numbers indicate that the nhs is under a lot of pressure in england. Lauren, thank you very much. A teenager is to face trial next year, accused of throwing a six year old boy from a viewing platform at the tate modern gallery in london. The 17 year old appeared this morning at the old bailey, accused of attempted murder. 0ur correspondent, danjohnson, was in court. This was a relatively short procedural hearing, we are still in the very early stages of this case. So the 17 year old who cant be named for legal reasons because he is under 18 didnt really say a lot beyond confirming his name, his date of birth and the fact that his nationality is british. He hasnt yet indicated whether he intends to plead guilty or not guilty to the charge of attempted murder. But his defence team said that they will order a psychiatric report. They want a psychiatrist to assess whether he is actually fit to make that plea or not. And we probably wont know that until the next hearing, which is scheduled for early november. Well, he is accused of throwing a six year old french boy of the viewing platform at tate modern on sunday afternoon in what is thought to have been an unprovoked attack. Now at the earlier hearing at the Magistrates Court early this week we heard how serious the boys injuries are. He has got broken legs and arms, he has got a fractured spine and a bleed on his brain. There has been no further updates on his condition today but it was described then as critical but stable. And here at court today there were two representatives from the french consulate. We assume they are here on behalf of the boys family who are still in london. They were here on holiday visiting the city when this all happened on sunday. Now the teenager, the 17 year old, has been told that he will be remanded into youth custody. There will be that next procedural hearing expected in november and a provisional trial date has been set for february next year. It could last up to two weeks. A new National ArtificialIntelligence Laboratory is to be created by nhs england. The Health Secretary matt hancock says Artificial Intelligence can improve the treatment of diseases from cancer to heart disease. Joining me now to discuss how the nhs could use ai more is professor bryan williams, the chair of medicine at ucl and director uclh Biomedical Research centre. Thank you forjoining us. How so far has Artificial Intelligence been using the nhs . We are beginning to see it being used for example in our own hospital one of our scientists who worked in al has developed a predictive algorithm which allows us to predict who may not turn up for outpatients. That may sound not terribly sophisticated but actually when you think about the number of outpatients who attend the nhs and the possibility to improve efficiency by using simple algorithms like that the opportunity is enormous. So how wellplaced is the uk to develop a laboratory that the uk to develop a laboratory that the Health Secretary is talking about . I think the laboratory that they are talking about is having a sort of oversight of this whole process. Most of the work will actually take place in the partnership between the nhs hospitals, universities, where a lot of the talent sits, and also small and medium biotech. A lot of people dont realise that they often think of Silicon Valley and places like that but actually london, just london, has as many developers, tech developers, as there are in San Francisco or new york or any other major european city. We have more tech start ups and many of those places. So the infrastructure for this is in the uk and of course we have the nhs, which is an enormous opportunity to utilise that data with these developers to create opportunities for al to be used. How worried they should people be about how our data, which can be immensely personal and confidential, is handled by the nhs if it is using that data for al . This is a really legitimate anxiety that many people have but they should be reassured that actually the highest priority, i sit on the boards of the nhs, i see this happening in my own hospital, the highest priority is given to safety of patient data. And the important thing for people to realise is actually identifiable data, data that people could identify an individual from, data, data that people could identify an individualfrom, is not required for these development processes. Required for these development processes. Most of the Ai Development takes place with data which is de identified and in some cases synthetic data, it is not real data it is just modelled on cases synthetic data, it is not real data it isjust modelled on patient data. So im quite excited by the opportunity. I think there are many other areas where there are legitimate concerns about the use of individual data but this isnt one of them. I think we can do a lot of work without necessarily using identifiable data. You talked about some of the practical administrative applications but what about the use of ai in diagnosis and treatment . think there are three areas, firstly with all of the genomic data that we are beginning to get access to on our patients, it is incredibly difficult for an individual doctor to process that complexity of information, so we need help. And when you begin to bring together all of the data on environmental factors, lifestyle factors, disease risk prediction, genomics, that is an enormous amount of data and it needs sophisticated computational models to analyse that data so that we can give personalised treatments to patients. We can also predict when a disease might happen in an individual patient. Many patients may say to me i dont want to know, doctor, but the reality is it is important to know because new treatments come down the line that may prevent those diseases develop in. So in disease prediction, development, very important. The other area is diagnostics. See think about an x ray, not that long ago we we re about an x ray, not that long ago we were putting up x rays on the screen and doing that. They do that in tv dramas dont they and doing that. They do that in tv dramas dont they what we are looking at is a pattern recognition process. If you feed multiple x rays into a machine and tell the machine thatis into a machine and tell the machine that is a normal x ray, you can teach that machine to recognise normality. Now the important is that if we do thousands of x rays in the nhs, it takes a lot of time for an individual specialist to look at every single x ray. What we really wa nt every single x ray. What we really want them to do is identify the x rays which are abnormal. So if youre taking all those x rays you could have an automated process going on in the background that identifying the abnormal findings contain a look at this one first. So not only does it improve the efficiency but improves the speed at getting to the thing that we need to know about. So i think that is just one example, there are many others where computational processes in the background are going to speed up diagnostics. Thank you very now its time for a look at the weather with Helen Willetts. Hello there. The impending poor weather has led to the cancellation or rearrangement of many Outdoor Events and it is no surprise because we are talking about weather which is more akin to autumn and winter. It is certainly something we dont see very often during the winter and we will see some really rather inclement weather. Itll start to set in through this evening and overnight, heavy rain initially, several hours of quite intense and persistent rain with some heavy showers following on behind. And the humidity will start to increase. And then as we go through friday the strengthening winds will push that rain steadily northwards, coming to a slow stand still almost across the north of scotland with lots of squally showers following on behind. And those will give some significant rain but the gusts of wind really start to escalate through the afternoon, particularly in the south and the west. Even inland we will start to see gusts, particular by the time we reach saturday or 40 to 50 miles an hour, 60 around the coast and those winds of course could cause some real issues. Now on afternoon live, lets go nationwide and see whats happening around the country in our daily visit to the bbc newsrooms around the uk. Today we are joined by becky bar in salford to give us an update following the evacuation of Whaley Bridge where the dam at todd brook reservoir was damaged. It is getting back to normal after the town was put at the centre of national headlines. Tell us what the latest is. It was exactly seven days ago now that residents and businesses we re now that residents and businesses were told they would have to leave Whaley Bridge after several days of heavy rain brought fears that the reservoir and the dam over the reservoir and the dam over the reservoir could collapse. 1500 people were told they had to leave their homes while Emergency Services worked to make that damn safe. You can see what a big job that was. The level of that reservoir has been brought down enough now and life is starting to get back to normal there. Locals are obviously very grateful to everyone who worked so ha rd to grateful to everyone who worked so hard to avert disaster in the small derbyshire town and if the dam had failed, the impact would have been felt right down the valley and affected many thousands of people. Life may be returning to normal there, but there has been a Financial Impact on this community. This cafe owner explained her situation. It was quite bad. The fridges are the thing that would jam packed, for a busy weekend and all the stock has to go. It has all gone in the bin today. We had cakes out and they have all gone mouldy. Everything has had to have a massive scrub, massive clean, andl had to have a massive scrub, massive clean, and i now need to go and do a shop. Hopefully, all being well, we should be open for business tomorrow at 9 30am, so please do come and support Whaley Bridge because we really need it. Some businesses will be able to claim for loss of earnings on their insurance if they have the right cover for what the industry calls denial of access. If they were within that evacuation cordon. Residents and businesses affected by the evacuation can also apply for emergency hardship funds. That could be up to £104 for residents and £300 for businesses to give them a bit of a helping hand. Authorities have also set up a food bank as well. What happens next . For now, as we heard from katie there, their message is come to Whaley Bridge, enjoy the town and spend your money in the shops. Most Emergency Services have now left the town. There are still pumps working in the town to keep water levels low. We spoke earlier to the leader of Derbyshire County Council with their efforts to help businesses. We are talking to government right now, in fact, about that, just to give that bit of support which would help us as a county council, actually, to free up a little bit more cash so we can support businesses on the ground here and in this valley. So, there has been a lot going on around that. Lots of work to be done. The canal and river trust which owns the reservoir also had earlier said it anticipates redesigning and rebuilding that damn. The environment minister also stressed that this could take some time. Things are getting back to normal but there is still a lot of work to do there. There certainly is. Big disruption but signs of progress. Thank you for all of that. Before you go, you recently announced some big news of your own. I know you are springing this on you. Have a look at this. Dance music plays it is quite a career change. What has brought this on . Nobody had told me we were doing this has brought this on . Nobody had told me we were doing this i know, i know. Those pictures were from earlier this year when i did a piece for north west tonight about the fire service in lancashire opening their recruitment window. It was coincidently something i had been thinking about for quite a few yea rs, thinking about for quite a few years, having a go. That was my dad, the guy that was in those pictures that you just sell. He was a firefighter for many years in lancashire. He retired a couple of yea rs lancashire. He retired a couple of years ago. I thought, when the recruitment window opened this time, i would apply and see what happened. Surprisingly to me, i was accepted. Im starting my training to be a firefighter in eight months, a month tomorrow, in fact. I am not surprised they snapped you up. If we dont see you before, we hope the training goes well and that you love your new career. Thank you very much. All the best for you and thank you for taking us nationwide. Thank you. If you would like to see more on any of those stories, you can find them on the bbc iplayer. We go nationwide every weekday at 4 30pm here on afternoon live. That is very rude. You dont ask a lady that. Last night at the pub. Gosh, that is a throwback. There is a business reason for that. I wasnt just prying. It is because it has emerged that there were no 1p or 2p coins produced by the royal mint at all last year. It is a first time in decades that they have stopped making the coins. The treasury concluding that there were already enoughin concluding that there were already enough in circulation. Something like 10. 5 billion 1p pieces are going around the uk, more than 6 billion 2p coins. The government says it is not changing the mix of coins and notes and it certainly isnt phasing coppers out. Coins and notes and it certainly isnt phasing coppers out. Most of them are probably down the back of peoples sofas. There is a precedent for this. They have done it before. The last time there was no 1p coins produced was 1972. In 1984 they didnt make any 2p pieces. The mint is owned by the treasury and it puts ona is owned by the treasury and it puts on a request to the mint to make coins. Certainly is, they have enough coins in circulation so they dont need to make any more. Enough coins in circulation so they dont need to make any more. Was it just coppers that they didnt make . Interestingly, £2 coins, no new two point coins were produced because there are enough already. I never seem to have any. No, especially when you need one. Lets talk about markets. They were not doing so well for the last few days. Lets bring injeremy. We saw gold climbing, touching levels that we havent seen for six years. It was above 1500 an ounce. It looks like it has eased today. It has. What we have seen over the course of the last couple of days in terms of equity markets, there has been a great deal of uncertainty causing equity markets to be rather spooked. Investors have been searching for safety. 0ne to be rather spooked. Investors have been searching for safety. One of those safety destinations has perceived to be gold. The gold price had been moving up to the six year highs. It is still very much the case that investors are looking to add gold to the portfolio. There is an interesting survey out from the Royal Institute of chartered surveyors showing that house prices, varies across the country, but generally flatlining. They are explaining that as it is down to the fear of the uncertainty around a possible no deal brexit. Fear of the uncertainty around a possible nodeal brexit. That is right. The market had been hoping that the price balance would unchanged but it fell back quite materially and has retreated back which is quite disappointing. We did see the trough for the year back in february when we were having the peak of uncertainty about a hard exit in march. We did see an improvement through april and may as the deadline was extended in terms of the brexit process. As we move to that october date, consumers and buyers are being more reticent and i think that is going to be a theme that will play out over the next few weeks and months as people arent relu cta nt weeks and months as people arent reluctant to take these big spending decisions. One standout performer in terms of shares on the ftse100 today, the trading firm is down. Its shares took a beating earlier this year around the whole woodford suspension. It seems to have retained the confidence of investors. Thats right. We had seen the share price drop by about a quarter, a sizeable rebound today. Most importantly, the changing nature of the market. We are seeing more people moving away from pooled managed funds to managing them individually which plays to the strengths of this firm. I think they are likely to increase their overall market hold over the medium run. For now, at least, the market has taken a more proactive view after the significant a more proactive view after the significa nt negativity that a more proactive view after the significant negativity that has swelled around the stock over the la st swelled around the stock over the last few months. Thank you very much for that. Have we got markets . There they are. They have worked about time. The markets there, a bit of a recovery after the loss is that we have seen in recent sessions. Mining stocks have been leading the gains on the 100. This is after chinese daters sued the fears around the impact of the us china trade war and the impact of that on a global growth. Had greaves was a winner. Gold has eased after its surge. It is now back below 1500 an ounce. It is hovering near six year highs. Investors still site likely slightly nervous but it is a good place to put your money in times of uncertainty. Thank you very much. But for the First Time Since the middle ages, the island and the mainland have been reunited with a new footbridge. Well, ive counted them, theres 272 steps and i can tell you, the last few, are pretty steep, whew. I think it looks absolutely amazing achievement and i think it its in really well with the landscape as well it looks amazing. And it s an achievement. If i brought my elderly mother along, then definitely the bridge. This landscape has been without its crossing for hundreds of years. The earth and rock now replaced by steel, reuniting a divided castle. Fiona lamdin, bbc news. And it looks spectacular, doesnt it. Time for a look at the weather. We are still on course for Stormy Weather. The details of all of those warnings are on our website. It encompasses yet more heavy rain at this time accompanied by some unusually windy weather for august. This developing massive cloud is a deepening area of low pressure which wouldnt be unusual in the autumn or the winter but it is unusually deep and far south for this time of year. This sort of wind strength doesnt happen very often. It will have impacts. This is almost the calm before the storm we have seen this afternoon. Pleasa ntly storm we have seen this afternoon. Pleasantly one, fewer showers but it all gets going through this evening. Several hours of heavy and persistent rain for many parts of england and wales, into Northern Ireland and by dawn of southern scotland. A miserable rush hour. Looking towards the festival, it should be heading northwards into the afternoon. Following the dry spell, there will be lots of heavy showers around. It is quite muggy air, it is tropical air mix in with the low pressure, hence the persistency of the rain. Ten to 15 millilitres in some areas but double that in some areas. Sunny spells and showers developing rattling around this area of low pressure which is to the south west. The winds are starting to escalate as well, gusting to 50 mph along the coast and they will increase through the night and into saturday. We will achieve temperatures into the low 20s because it is tropical air but inconsequential given that heavy showers. This blast of strong winds for england and wales, a sustained speu for england and wales, a sustained spell of windy weather for this time of year. It is not unusual to see gusts around 60 mph occasionally around the coast in the summer but 4o around the coast in the summer but 40 to 50 mph inland. That will have an impact with the trees in full leaf. We could have some more Flooding Issues with the round being saturated. It comes a little on sunday. Mag with the ground being saturated. It calms little on sunday. Today at five. The Prime Minister praises the bravery of a Police Officer stabbed in a machete attack.
