And are we moving from a us china trade war to a currency war well explain why china has allowed its currency to fall to its lowest level against the dollar in more than a decade. Hello and welcome after a very difficult weekend. Donald trump has spoken out against White Supremacy following two Mass Shootings in america, one of which is believed to have been motivated by racism. Heres the president speaking at the white house. In one voice, our nation must condemn racism, bigotry, and White Supremacy. These sinister ideologies must be defeated. Hate has no place in america. Hatred warps the mind, ravages the heart, and devours the soul. We have asked the fbi to identify all further resources they need, President Trump is referring to the two Mass Shootings over the weekend. One in dayton ohio, in which nine people were killed. The other was in el paso, texas. 22 people were killed here, after two more victims died in hospital. And it is this shooting in el paso that Police Believe was racially motivated. The attacker, identified by us media as patrick crusius, is believed to have posted a white supremacist manifesto on the website eight chan, talking about a hispanic invasion. Map el paso is right on the border with mexico, el paso is right on the border with mexico, eight of those killed in the shooting were mexican nationals. Texas is one of the states where donald trump has pledged to build a wall to keep out Illegal Migrants from latin america. This is donald trump speaking at his president ial campaign back, in 2016. They are bringing drugs, they are bringing crime, they are rapists and some i assume bringing crime, they are rapists and some i assume are bringing crime, they are rapists and some i assume are good people. We are going to build a wall, folks. Dont worry. He was going to pay for the wall . Who . That was in speaking during his Election Campaign. Cross over to el paso. Gary odonoghue is in el paso for us. Given this mass murder is considered a hate crime, what do you consider to all of this . As you can imagine, there is a lot of anger still around. The shootings only took place on saturday and in the early hours of sunday morning, there is a lot of frustration. A lot of pent up frustration with washington, with politicians in general and people wondering why we are going over this all over again. And there is a predictable choreography to the way these things unfolded in the reaction to them in the promises of action and the need for bipartisan progress and all that kind of thing and then running into the sand and nothing happening. That is really what you get, this overwhelming sense of people being frustrated and there are some, because this is an issue that is split. Some people are determined that this should not undermine what they consider their Constitutional Rights and make no mistake, there are a lot of people in this country that are absolutely further averred that owning guns and all kinds of guns are tantamount to human rights. A constitutional right for them. There are a few points that i want to go through with our viewers in terms of what is been happening. The website that hosted the racist manifesto believed to be written by the el paso suspect, 8chan, has since been shutdown after the Cyber Security company cloudflare said it would no longer provide security for the site. Not only is it associated with the attack in el paso, but it was also used by the suspect in aprils synagogue shooting in poway, california, and by the suspect in the mosque shooting in christchurch, new zealand, which killed 51 people. Heres an expert in extremism explaining the pattern. One thing we know is that this generation of young people spends more time alone than any previous generation, but more time online. They are networked online, theyre spending a lot of time online. They engage with other people online and that translates into their off line activity. So sometimes people have this mistaken understanding that they are just online all the time and only spending their time on mine. But in most cases, when they are radicalised, people are also spending time off line. They meet up with each other, they go to some kind of concert or inspire some off line engagement action and that is what are seeing here. Exposed to these kind of ideas online, theyre reading the manifestos of other terrorists and finding inspiration in them and their planning manuals and architecture to create an attack and architecture to create an attack and where to purchase these kinds of weapons, they find all that out on line but they plan an attack in real life. The killings this weekend have further ignited the debate over gun control in the us. President trump has called for greater restrictions on gun ownership for the mentally ill. We must reform our Mental Health laws to better identify the mentally disturbed individuals who may commit a cts disturbed individuals who may commit acts of violence and may tend make sure that they not only get treatment, but when necessary, involu nta ry treatment, but when necessary, involuntary confinement. It pulls the trigger, not the gun. We must make sure that those judged to pose a grave risk to Public Safety do not have access to firearms and that if they do, those firearms can be taken throughout rapid due process. This an nbc article from 2017 that reminds us that donald trump revoked a law put in place by Barack Obamas administration that added people with Mental Illness to the background check register. A law very similar to the Mental Illness restrictions donald trump is now proposing. Here he is calling for both democrats and republicans to Work Together on new legislation. Iam open i am open and ready to listen to all ideas that will actually work and make a very big difference. Republicans and democrats have proven that we can join together in a bipartisan fashion to address this plague. This newsweek article points out that there is already a bill, passed by the house of representatives, which would require background checks for all gun owners in the us. But the senate hasnt voted on it because it was blocked by Senate Majority leader mitch mcconnell. Democratic president ial candidate Elizabeth Warren has the nra is the National Rifle association, americas gun lobby, who have given mitch mcconnell, and many other politicans, hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign donations. Today they commented on the shootings over the weekend, saying. Here are some of the people that survived the el paso shooting. What i did was what i was supposed to do. I understand it was heroic andi to do. I understand it was heroic and i am looked at as a hero for. But that was not the reason for me. Im just focused on the kids i couldnt get to. it hurts me like they were part of me |j couldnt get to. it hurts me like they were part of me i had to pretend i was dead and he was right next to me. And he shut eight more rounds and all i could say was god, please take care of my children. Those who managed to survive the attack. Gary joins us those who managed to survive the attack. Garyjoins us again. There was some form of legislation already there but it is being blocked, why is the president asking for more bipartisan action. Are we are ahead of vaden Election Campaign perhaps . Ofan of vaden Election Campaign perhaps . Of an election. He has to do the role of consoler in chief and seems to be reaching out, or be seen to be reaching out, that is what you do in the circumstances. Not doing that before and here he is doing it. But you are right, there are bits of legislation made to go that the Republican Controlled Senate could ta ke Republican Controlled Senate could take up and pass, it would face enormous opposition from the lobby, the National Rifle association as you have already mentioned and they can bring an awful lot of pressure to bear on members of congress and bearin to bear on members of congress and bear in mind, this is not the first time he has talked about backing this kind of universal background check type approach. He said that after the shooting in the Parkland School in florida last year, couple of days later, after meeting with the nara, nra, he of days later, after meeting with the nara, nra, he backed off of that. The thing that everyone will be looking at, doesnt happen in reality . Does it go beyond words, the normal words . Does it in some kind of action . As things stand, in the past 20 years, it has meant that theres been very little progress from those who would seek to bring in new controls on gun ownership. Thank you very much. We have many more details on those mass killings on our website. So do have a little look at that. If you want more background details and for the legislation that has been prevented from going through. It is definitely worth having a little read. Let us bring you up to date with another story dominating our news agenda. Lets bring you up to date with what is happening in the stock markets. Stock markets all over the world have plummeted after china allowed its currency to fall to its lowest level against the dollar in more than a decade. It has passed the seven yuan per dollar level, something it hasnt done since 2008, during the Global Financial crisis. The move has prompted an angry response from the us president. Donald trump tweeted china dropped the price of their currency the rate was set by the peoples bank of china, which has laid the blame on unilateral trade protectionism and the increase in tariffs. President trump recently announced 10 tariffs on the remaining 300 billion of chinese imports from septemberfirst, breaking the month long truce in the trade war. The bbcs zhaoyin feng is in washington. It seems the trade war, china has faced down Blood Pressure of currency, but in the past few months, china has tried to slow down the pace of depreciation rather than encourage it. But the country has decided to let the currency drop to a very significant level. It is a turning point of his official policy stance. First of all and indicates that its not only in economic policy, made only by the central bank, but i also got approval from the leadership. And indicates that china is here prepared for the prolonged trade war and the depreciation will brace the country for higher tariffs in the us. Why is china allowing this to happen now, is there any significance in the timing of this . It is definitely in response to the us threat of raising the tariffs an additional 10 but at the tariffs an additional 10 but at the same time, the bank has indicated that this is not irreversible events, meaning that the Exchange Rate can change again, it is not like ageing or breaking a dam. There is no turning back. It is not like the water level of a lake, it can either rise or drop depending on the season. But it is six significant comparison, what does this mean for chinas economy and its trade with the United States. How would i be impacted . The depreciation certainly has pros and cons, its pros is that the exports will have a price advantage, will help ease some of the tariffs, but on the other hand, the Exchange Rate is very difficult to navigate. It can create a negative impact on the economy and it can trigger outflow, it can damage market confidence and lead to more risk and the property sector of china and potentially even an economic crisis, so we can expect china to exercise some cautions and further depreciating its currency. This move by china was met as we said initially, the move by china was met with a sea of red on the worlds markets. Nowhere more so than in new york where the dowjones industrial average shred over 800 points and the s p 500 was on track for its biggest one day percentage decline since february 2018. Samira hussain is on wall street, outside the new york stock exchange. Why on earth have we seen such a huge reaction . It was a big move by china and what the investors have really ta ke n china and what the investors have really taken from this is that look, it does not seem like the trade war is going to end anytime soon. So you see that china has really exercised its ability to retaliate in some way and now investors are worried that look, this trade war is continuing and who knows just how long it is going to go on. Of course, they can look to the fact that the two sides are going to be speaking in washington in september. Those talks are still on track. But the reality is is that these kinds of political movements have significant impacts on the economy and especially on financial markets. That is why you are seeing such a really strong proliferation here on wall street. And it is retaliating, donald trump will not resist trying to strike backin will not resist trying to strike back in some way will he . That is the biggest question but now theyre wondering what that can actually look like, he is artie said that he is going to put new tariffs on the remaining chinese goods that are coming into the United States that are not already subject to tariffs and that is going to be implemented in september one and the reality is that a lot of people are looking at is if this tariffs are put in place, there is concern i have this may impact the american consumer, especially going into the busy Christmas Season where there is a lot of retail sales that is very important to the american economy. Thank you so much. Harland and wolff its the Historic Shipyard in belfast where the titanic was built more than 100 years ago. At its height 30 thousand people worked there. But now the administrators have been called in and the company will file for insolvency tomorrow, putting around 120 jobs at risk. Our ireland correspondent emma vardy reports. Towering over belfast, the iconic cranes have become the symbol of the city. Former giants of shipbuilding now in decline. Workers have taken control of this site and held an around the clock picket line, Still Holding out for a solution to save the shipyard today, they received redundancy notices. Hello, this is outside source. President trump condemns White Supremacy following two Mass Shootings that left 31 dead in texas and ohio but little mention of gun control measures. Today i am also directing the department of justice to today i am also directing the department ofjustice to propose legislation ensuring that those who commit hate crimes and mass murders face the death penalty. India upsets the delicate balance in kashmir, by stripping the region of its autonomy. Pro democracy protests in hong kong continue into the night, as its leader carrie lam warns its on the verge of a very dangerous situation. And uk Police Continue to hold a teenager on suspicion of attempted murder after witnesses say that a six year old boy was thrown from a viewing platform at a london art gallery. Kashmir is at the centre of controversy once again. Thats because the indian administered part of the region is being stripped of its special status. Well explore just what that means in a moment. But first, heres the announcement being made in indias parliament. Translation i have come with a Firm Resolution in my mind that there should not be a seconds delay in the within article 370. Translation the first is out the constitution democracy today. So a lot of strong reaction after that announcement. We heard indias interior minister mention article 370. Its the part of the constitution that guarantees Jammu Kashmir has significant autonomy. It allows the state to have its own constitution, a separate flag, and independence over all matters except foreign affairs, defence, and communications. Its been in place since 1919. Yogita limaye explains why. At the time of partition, kashmir was a princely state, that indian and pakistan fought a war over. Kashmirs special status was a promise made to the region in return for acceding to india. One of the main privileges it gave was that only permanent residents could buy land here. That provision was put in place to protect Jammu Kashmirs distinct demographic character. Its the only muslim majority state in india. Todays move could end up changing that. Thats certainly the concern across the border in pakistani administered kashmir. Our reporter farhat javed is there. Thousands of people have gathered here, protesting against the indian government. These people are carrying black coloured flag and carrying black coloured flag and carrying banners that say it is an indian conspiracy to change the democracy of the kashmir region. Theres also strong opposition to this move on the indian side of the border. Here are the thoughts of some protesters in new delhi. We wa nt we want indian people to rule our land, and we dont want other people is to come there and settle there. We do not want to change our demography. Today, the trust in india, that constitutional commitment on the part of the indian state, this stand is virtually demolished. So this is a moment of grief, shock, betrayal, forthe people of kashmir. Much of that anger is also being directed at the way in which india has carried this out. Kashmirs parliament wasnt consulted. Local politicians, including former kashmir chief minister were placed under house arrest. This is her response. Today marks the darkest day in indian democracy. To scrap article 370 is illegal and unconstitutional. But the government has plenty of supporters. These are kashmiri hindus celebrating todays news. They re hopeful the change to the constitution will see more hindus settle in their state. That could include some of these kashmiri hindus whove been living in exile in new delhi. Theyve also been celebrating. Heres their reaction. Translation we congratulate them. Our banishment has ended. The most important thing is thatJammu Kashmir will prosper. Today is the actual independence. Translation now the kashmiri hindus will return on our own terms. It is a historic, very good step for us, that article 370 has been scrapped. Ather zia is from the university of northern colorado. Shes a professor of anthropology and has co written several books on kashmir. Shejoins me from greeley in colorado. Professor zia, that is so much concern about this. What do you think about the revocation of article 370 . We are an extreme shock, but we are not surprised. The relationship over the last 70 years has been very precarious between delhi and kashmir, and it is through quite a lot of engineering on the pa rt quite a lot of engineering on the part of the Indian Administration to keep the region under control, which has included politicalformations that have been put into place inside kashmir. So right now, we are all very shocked, we are trying to process. It did not come as a surprise to us, which is what we have been talking about for the last four years, because it was building up four years, because it was building up to four years, because it was building uptoa four years, because it was building up to a point where this article would go. Now there is 1. 1 would like to make, that when we are talking about article 370, it is also positioned as a promise that india made to kashmiris to uphold their identity, to uphold their unique demography. I would like to give a perspective on this and see that, while it does maintain a relationship with the Indian Constitution and india as a country, at the same time, kashmiris are not. This is not kashmiri. Kashmiris are not loyal to the indian nation. What article 370 essentially promises as for kashmiris to maintain their unique demography and territorial sovereignty. And unique territorial demography does not necessarily mean it has to be muslim in nature. |j understand, it has to be muslim in nature. understand, professor zia, but it has to be muslim in nature. understand, professorzia, buti wa nt to understand, professorzia, buti want to bring in the perspective from the government, because they have been playing down todays move. We had professor zia said it but the bj p we had professor zia said it but the bjp spokesman is really playing the stone, listen to this. Article 370 was never a permanent part of the constitution. In fact, the first Prime Minister himself said in parliament it is a temporary provision. Secondly, this move that has been done by the government is essentially not for the rest of india. It is about the people of kashmir, it is about there being able to finally have greater economic benefits, to basically ensure the kind of rule that they would have in terms of the group we are seeing another part the country. That was the perspective from the bjp. Lets go back to professor zia, who were stocking about the sensitivity, whereas the bjp are playing this very much down. Who was talking about. I agree with what the bjp spokesman as saying, when he says that article 370 was never meant to be permanent, it never was meant to be permanent, it never was meant to be permanent, it never was meant to be permanent, because the second part of the equation, the plebiscite, was never held. But that has been avoided, and that has been ignored by india. And that part is not being talked about at all, and thatis not being talked about at all, and that is what kashmiris are demanding. They are demanding plebiscite, and in the last three decades, there is an assertiveness that we need to have the third option of independence. So of course it was a temporary provision, but then there is another thing, in 2015 and in april 2018, the high court of Jammu Kashmir said that it is a permanent part of the constitution, it has become a permanent part. Saw when the bjp and the people who support this move say it is only a half truth when they say this, it isa half truth when they say this, it is a half truth when they say it was temporary. Yes, it was temporary, but it had to have a plebiscite, because that was following the temporary provision, and that has not been given it to kashmiris. Incredibly complicated situation. Again, we are out of time. Professor zia, thank you for talking us through it, i am sure we will be discussing this at length in the days and weeks to come as reaction comes from that aspect. Here in the uk, police are continuing to hold a teenage boy on suspicion of attempted murder, after witnesses say a six year old boy was thrown from a viewing platform at tate modern art gallery in london. The boy is in a critical, but stable, condition in hospital. He was on the 10th floor with his mother yesterday afternoon he landed five storeys below. Our special correspondent lucy manning has this report. Pa rents parents with children at the tate modern this morning were greeted by signs that the viewing gallery was shot, because the tenth floor yesterday, the screams of a mother, as her son fell five floors onto a flat roof. Police investigating claims that the young child, visiting from france, was thrown over the edge by a teenager at the gallery. Mark was on the viewing platform. There was some commotion, and a very loud primal scream. So it was hard to ascertain what was going on, someone was hard to ascertain what was going on, someone said somebody had thrown a child over. I looked up and looked over the rail, and i did indeed see a child down below there. The childs mother then tried to claim the real climb the rail. I restrained her and pulled her back, and then the fellow who was being accused was being punched, and then we pushed him over to the side of the wall, where he was then standing and continued to say, yeah, i did it. We were standing taking pictures. This woman was also one of the viewing platform with her four year old son when it happened. I heard there was a kind of a noise, happening co stars, and we went to the lift. And on my way in, i met a woman who was shouting my son, my son. And she was desperately crying. And instinctively, ithought son. And she was desperately crying. And instinctively, i thought i should help, but i had my little child, so ijust grabbed him we jumped into the lift. There was a helicopter, then i saw paramedics remain inside, and then paramedics carrying something. It was an emotional moment when you think whether they are alive or not. Police said today the six year old bible is in a stable but critical condition, and is no longer in a life threatening situation. Of the six year old boy is in a stable but critical condition. The teenager suspected of throwing him from the viewing platform is not believed to have known the boy. As the family which for more news about the condition, the teenager is still being held on suspicion of attempted murder. Police say there is no obvious motive, and wants to hear from visitors who saw anyone whose behaviour was worrying or out of place. Stay with us on outside source still to come hong kongs mass protests intensify after thousands of people take part in a mass walkout, blocking roads and paralysing the train system. Fire crews say it will take at least two more days of pumping water to stop a dam bursting and flooding the derbyshire 1,500 people have already been evacuated but some residents refuse to leave their homes, as danny savage reports. The water level is going down by about two metres every 2a hours. There is still an exclusion zone below it. Every road and footpath is taped off in a wide area showing where nobody should be. But in here are a handful of people who refuse to leave their homes, a decision strongly criticised by police. One of them is mike friel. I know they are concerned, but i know i can get out of here quick enough and get to higher ground. I am in the town, but i am on a slight hill, and i know in a couple of minutes, i could get up a hill even higher. Margot is one of those who have listened to the advice and moved out. She is frustrated that some people have refused to go. It is a selfish move, and it is implying that they know more than the environmental agency, the engineers who are working here, and they dont. The aim, of course, is to get everybody back into their homes behind these lines as soon as possible. But talking to officials here, but they dont want to do is to let people return, and then find a reason to have to move them out again. Labour Leaderjeremy Corbyn visited the dam today. He expressed sympathy to residents, and called for an enquiry. Around the reservoir, sandbags have been put in place to reduce the amount of water from streams which flow into it. It is still a busy site, but if things continue at this pace, they should hit their safe depth target tomorrow. This is outside source live from the bbc newsroom. Our lead story President Trump has condemned White Supremacy following two Mass Shootings that left 31 dead in texas and ohio, but hes made no mention of gun control measures. Mass protests have been taking place in hong kong for nine weeks now. Today they intensified, and became very violent. It all started when thousands of people took part in a mass walkout, blocking roads, delaying more than 200 flights, and paralysing the train system. And that resulted in scenes like this. Fiery clashes with commuters. While many people were travelling, activists were stopping trains by holding the doors open on the platform. This building is a police complex, where Police Officers live with theirfamilies. You can see here that militant pro democracy activists are throwing rocks at the building and smashing its windows. That escalated when the protesters lit a bonfire at the front of the building. The chaos spilled onto a road. Police and protesters are clashing here, and its violent. Sticks are being used as weapons. The bbcs china correspondent, stephen mcdonnel, has spent hours on the streets covering the protests. While he was outside, something hit his protective face mask and smashed it. Here he is talking about what happened. To show you how dangerous this is, i just had this straight in the face. Probably a tear gas canister or something. What is that . That could have been what hit me in the face. It is very hard. Hit me in the face. A lucky escape there. This is a photo from a reporter at the south China Morning post, of a collegue who wasnt so lucky. He was hit in the face by whats thought to have been a round of tear gas. The protests have spread right across hong kong. They were originally over plans to allow extradition from hong kong to mainland china. That idea has been put on hold. But the protests have now morphed into various demands for better democratic freedoms. The activists are worried their democratic freedoms wont be protected by the beijing appointed authorities who run hong kong. The protests havent all been violent. This is a sit in at a shopping mall. But the violence seemed to ramp up after carrie lam, hong kongs leader, gave herfirst News Conference in two weeks. She once again rejected calls for her resignation. And said her government will not give in to the protesters demands. Such extensive disruptions in the name of certain demands, or uncooperative movement, have seriously undermined hong kongs law and order. And are pushing our city, the city we all love, and many others helped to build, to the verge ofa others helped to build, to the verge of a very dangerous situation. We are now going to go back to steve mcdonnel. This gives you an idea of the militancy of some in the pro democracy movement. People are coming in here throwing bricks over the wall of this compound, where the police are live with their families. It is not just police are live with their families. It is notjust a few people here, we can come around and see how many protesters there are, there are thousands of them. And the police came aboutan thousands of them. And the police came about an hour ago, pushed them back. But then the protesters have returned. They have also graffitied the wall where the police live, accusing them of having links to the mafia. And this is one of the demands of todays strike, that there be an independent enquiry into this connection. The government says the police are already having an enquiry, so no need for this special independent enquiry. But again, we see just how many people are prepared to attack the police to this extent. We can see these buildings, this is where the police live, in these towers. So you can imagine why at various times, police would be coming out here today in full force to clear people from where they were. Their families are living in there, and windows are being smashed up in their homes. Where are the bricks coming from . Here. Protesters are digging up bricks from the footpath, and then they come around this way, and start hurling them back inside. Carrie lam says that her administration is going to stop this, its going to return hong kong to the way it was, but in that press conference today, we had no idea how they intend to do this, and this cycle of violence keeps going and actually escalating. It has been going on for nine weeks. Thanks to steve mcdonnel in hong kong. Lets return to our top story, the Mass Shootings in america over the weekend that left 31 people dead. One in dayton ohio, in which nine people were killed. The other was in el paso, texas. 22 people were killed here, after two more victims died in hospital. Eight of the People Killed in el paso were mexican nationals, and it is believed there was a racist motive behind the attack. Here are some of el pasos hispanic residents reacting to the shooting. What do we have to do for this to change how can you comment target as, as an ethnic group . I dont know, it hurts. I came from mexico from violence, and now this is happening here. And el paso has been one of the safest cities in the us and in the world. It is a city that welcomes everyone, and i think that is the unique thing about this city, it isa is the unique thing about this city, it is a very welcoming city, it does not matter your race, your income level, it isjust a city that loves people. What reminding that several victims of the el paso shootings we re victims of the el paso shootings were mexican nationals. Worth reminding. Lets go live to our latin american correspondent will grant. What reaction it now from the Mexican Government . The foreign minister is in el paso, offering support to those mexican families, as you said, eight families affected. And i think there is a real anger in mexico itself, these are real anger in mexico itself, these a re often real anger in mexico itself, these are often families just heading into the United States for the day, and have ended up killed at the hands of somebody who had got such easy access, as far as they are concerned, to guns. So i think if you just look at the headlines of newspapers in mexico, you can see there is real frustration, newspapers in mexico, you can see there is realfrustration, they feel they been holding their tongues about all the language used about immigrants, bad mexicans under the trump administration, and now this, i think is the moment that frustration has been transferred to the government who are going to try to bring a legal case in the United States arent terrorism charges. Well, you touched upon of the language the Trump White House, donald trump using on his Election Campaign back in 2016. Just how strained our relations between the Trump White House and mexico now . How strained are relations . On some elements, they have been working together very closely recently on immigration, and it looked to a lot of mexicans that the Mexican Government was doing mr trumps bidding if you like, putting the wall in place on the southern border of mexico between Central America and mexico, and obviously ramping up the security and the arrest going on in mexico to bring down the numbers of people who even make it to the us border. So one of those issues, they we re border. So one of those issues, they were beginning to find a lot of common ground. I think this is set all of that back quite far, and i think that the Mexican Administration will make their voices heard on this. There really is anger and voices heard on this. There really is angerand a voices heard on this. There really is anger and a collective sense in mexico that that is one thing, despite all of mexicos problems, people do not necessarily going to schools, they cannot buy guns so easily. There is a key difference there that he wants to underline. Oh, a lot of problems. Will grant, a latin american correspondent, many thanks. Interesting to see that the usa is still in place many people wa nt to usa is still in place many people want to go. Whats more on this this week on outside source, join us again tomorrow. Bye bye. The month of august can often provide some intense thundery downpours, which is examining what happened sunday night in north yorkshire, 42 millimetres of rainfall recorded in the just one hour. That is pretty close to the monthly average, and we are only in the first week of august. And low pressure is going to be with us throughout much of this week, so it is going to stay pretty unsettled, with showers which could be intense thundery downpours over the next few days. So on tuesday, we may well start off dry, bright, with some Early Morning sunshine, but it is not expected to last. Showers close to the area of low pressure from the west will gradually move in line. A breezy day as well. Thatll push those showers quite quickly through across england and wales, but lighter winds in scotland, some of the shower is heavy, slow moving, and thundery. And temperature is a little bit subdued for this time of year, highs of 15 to 23 celsius. More showers to come on wednesday as well, perhaps lighter in nature across central and southern parts of england, but further north, a rash of showers, some of them quite widespread in scotland, accompanied bya widespread in scotland, accompanied by a northerly wind to the north, which will make it feel disappointingly cool. Highest values for the south of 23 celsius. Moving into thursday, we will start to see a brief ridge of High Pressure building for a a brief ridge of High Pressure building fora time, a brief ridge of High Pressure building for a time, thursday looking likely to be the quietest day of the week, and the best chance ofa day of the week, and the best chance of a drier interlude. So on thursday, if you have got outdoor plants, for you will not be too disappointed. Still the risk of a few showers, but by the end of the daily southwest, a significant area of low pressure showing us and, turning increasingly wet and windy. Again, temperature is 15 to 2a, a little warmer if you get some sun. The area of low pressure will arrive on friday, and some fairly tightly packed isobars, on friday, and some fairly tightly packed isoba rs, unusually on friday, and some fairly tightly packed isobars, unusually windy for this time of year. Gusts in excess of a0 mph, the rain spreading steadily north throughout the day. Friday could be particularly miserable if you are caught underneath that. And the temperature is disappointing here as well. With a little sunshine, may be 23 celsius. The low not going far off very fast, but the weekend, stripping its way steadily northwards, still staying breezy and we still pick up some showers, particularly closest to that area of low pressure. So on saturday, below isa low pressure. So on saturday, below is a spider in the land, bands of showers, some heavy, again thundery, quite breezy with it. In the south east, potential highs of 23 celsius, and here it should stay largely fine and dry. So one of the reasons it will be so unsettled this week, and unfortunately into next, is the position of the jet stream which still lives to the south of us. Which still lives to the south of us. So once we are which still lives to the south of us. So once we are on the which still lives to the south of us. So once we are on the north side of thejet, we us. So once we are on the north side of the jet, we will always be on the cool side. It continues to strengthen from the atlantic after a brief lull, which means it will dry further area two of low pressure across is, unfortunately. A brief lull in proceedings for a time, but not long before these areas of low pressure like a Conveyor Belt waiting in the winds to bring yet more wet and windy weather with it. Soi more wet and windy weather with it. So i notice in the middle of the Summer Holidays and tickets are off at the moment, but it looks likely it will remain unsettled. Some brief drier interlude is if we are lucky, breezy and at times rather cool in the rain. I guarantee next week at this time, you will be asking yourself where summer has gone. In the wake of two Mass Shootings after condemnation of his own language by political opponents. As memorials were held in texas and ohio for the 31 People Killed, the president said hate had no place in america. In one voice, our nation must condemn racism, bigotry and White Supremacy. These sinister ideologies must be defeated. With gun control going unmentioned in the president s speech, well be looking at the threat of far right violence. Also tonight.
