The whole of the road is blocked with bags of concrete. Its like a ghost town. We were advised by the police we we re town. We were advised by the police we were going in at our own risk and yes, all right, its a calculated risk, really. We sort of knew we needed to get things, we knew we had to do things and as long as you moved quickly. I was saying, listen, all the time. They told us if we hear three blasts on a horn we we re if we hear three blasts on a horn we were just to run. If we hear three blasts on a horn we werejust to run. Bricks if we hear three blasts on a horn we were just to run. Bricks and if we hear three blasts on a horn we werejust to run. Millions of gallons of water still needs to be diverted, and pumps are working around the clock. This is a major incident, make no mistake. And if you pan across you can see the brick level of these stones. That was underwater when we arrived. As you can see, its quite visibly come down. Small viz micro businesses are also suffering. Every day it closed is a loss of earnings in that respect. I have some builders are staying with me that had to get out quick when they started the evacuation, so they are obviously losing, as well. Not really knowing when i can open back up really knowing when i can open back up and take bookings. Russias military hasjoined efforts to try to contain fires burning over thousands of square miles of forest in the north and east of the country. Some of the fires have been burning for weeks in what environmental groups have described as an ecological catastrophe. 0ur correspondent Steve Rosenberg reached the villlage of podymakhino in siberia. Well, this is where the fairy tale russian forest has been reduced to a wasteland. The fire has caused a lot of damage here. And, as you can see, its still smouldering. And part of the problem is deadwood dry wood like this, because even if you drop 40 tonnes of water from the military plane up there, if its still burning inside here if theres still flames then thats going to continue. What the local Forestry Company has tried to do is to localise the fire, to keep it that side and stop it spreading. So to do that, it sent a bulldozer here to remove everything that could potentially catch fire. So, for example, moss, old leaves and twigs. In other words, to create a barrier here. But if you look over there, you can see that the barrier isnt working. Steve rosenberg reporting. With all the sport now, heres mike bushell at the bbc sport centre. Good afternoon. Good afternoon. Its not been the start england had planned on day three of the opening ashes test against australia. The hosts had been hoping to build a big lead at edgbaston, but instead have lost four wickets, and so now, expectations have been lowered. Joe wilson reports from birmingham. Edgbaston, saturday, dress code optional, but try to be eccentric. Some of them made you think, why . Some of them, how . But even on fancy dress day, it is about cricket. No ashes without fire and no england without burns. And it burns, burns, burns. Rory burns yes, he was back, stretched, refocussed, and finding inspiration again. The key is often restraint. Ben stokes had got to 50 when he tried his first big shot. A faint touch and he was gone. Theres a lot of time to regret that one fleeting mistake. Well, Jonny Bairstow was in and this was a significant shot because it took england past australias first innings total. It gave england the lead. And rory burns. Would he ever stop . Would he ever leave . Well, credit australia. Lyons delivery, the catch held, the innings finally over, but 133, and in test match batting, anyone could learn from burns. Moeen ali guessed wrong. And what about bairstow . Well, the morning was unravelling, as drinks were delivering. Well, the serious stuff is the state of the match and england got to lunch at 328 8 with woakes and stuart broad at the crease. That is a lead of 44 runs which is something, but it certainly wasnt the potentially dominant position that you and i discussed earlier this morning. Absolutely not. Joe wilson at edgbaston. The third round of the british 0pen golf at woburn is under way. Ashley buhai of south africa is leading the way at 12 under. Its quite funny because my fiances family has come. They dont play golf either so its nice that they come to support me. Lewis hamilton topped final practice at the hungarian grand prix but there was little to choose between the top drivers. Good afternoon to you. This weekend is looking fairly mixed across the uk. We should have more sunshine around than we did last weekend if you cast your mind back. We do have an east west divide. An area of low pressure pushing in from the west is bringing the card to northern ireland, parts of wales and northern ireland. You will notice how clear the skies are further east. Glorious sunshine for the afternoon. The head of this rain we could see one or two showers popping up mainly over the Higher Ground of scotland and into northern parts of england. You will notice brighter colours indicating there could be heavy at best. Temperature is quite one, even with the cloud and hazy sunshine further west. 20 to 25 degrees across the south east. This is the pressure pattern. You can see the low pressure to the west. High pressure trying to hold on across eastern areas which is why we see this east west divide. 0vernight, those showers will die off across Northern Areas and we should see variable cloud, lengthy clear skies. Areas and we should see variable cloud, lengthy clearskies. Dry areas and we should see variable cloud, lengthy clear skies. Dry for most but still damp across Western Areas thanks to these weather fronts. Temperatures similar to last night, and around the mid teens for many. We start sunday off with a little bit of mist and fog. That should clear quickly and we will have plenty of sunshine across north and east regions. Damp across Western Areas thanks to the weather fronts. We could see some showers pppin9 fronts. We could see some showers ppping up fronts. We could see some showers popping up into the afternoon, may bea popping up into the afternoon, may be a bit more widespread and heavy across parts of scotland and into Northern England. It will be warm across the south east, 25 or 26 degrees. Met office have issued a lower level warning for showers affecting scotland and parts of Northern England, north midlands where we have those flood warnings. Some could be quite heavy. As we had to be on sunday into next week, this area of low pressure pretty much ta kes area of low pressure pretty much takes over and it will bring us a fairly unsettled week, particularly for the first half of the week with showers and thunderstorms around, particular in the northern half of the country where some could be quite heavy. 0f the country where some could be quite heavy. Of course there could be that continued risk of flooding. Probably the best of the weather across southern and south eastern areas. Goodbye for now. Fantastic the support, and ive been told about various stories, for instance, somebody in dominoes in buxton was told, im sorry, you cant have any at the moment, we are just making for the pizzas for the people who have been evacuated. Its amazing the way things are being sorted out. So, very organised, lots of relief that people have been able to get out and get out quickly. I suppose the kind of questions that people must be asking, also the long term worry about something they might not have thought too much about in the past, that they are living so close to something you could potentially cause them real harm . Yes. Ive lived here nearly seven years, and the very first time that i saw the dam, my heart flipped because you could see the potential danger of it, and we do know that it is checked regularly, but it is almost 200 years old so obviously, there are risks attached to that. And i know that even now, there are still risks that it could breach, and the results would be catastrophic. But i say we are just grateful for everything that is being done, and wejust go on hoping and praying that we will have a good outcome in the end and that we do know that they will work to make sure that it is assured up safely, and that im sure they will empty it to start with and make sure that it is ok again. Its a phenomenal logistical task. Have you thought about what you are going to do in the service tomorrow . Because we have two churches, the holy trinity is in the exclusion area, so we cant use that, and we should have oui cant use that, and we should have ourdour cant use that, and we should have our dour services there tomorrow. But we do have another church which is on high ground, and we are going to have our services there. One of theissuesis to have our services there. One of the issues is that in many senses, Whaley Bridge has been split in two by this ongoing disaster, because people live either side of the reservoir. And so, actually, getting from side to side is not that easy. So, asi from side to side is not that easy. So, as i say, we will have a service tomorrow at half past ten and we hope people will be able to get there. Im sure people will want to give thanks for what has been achieved so far, and thoughts and prayers for what comes in the days and weeks ahead. It will be a sort of sermon on the mount from you, i guess. Thank you very much and i apologise for calling you by the wrong name earlier. The food bank charity the truffle trust is. They say they are Child Poverty action Group Estimates that 4. 1 million children are currently living in poverty. Paging wood page and christopher have struggled at housing is really hard for people. People, if theyve got food thats past its best date, they should give it to some charities. Im just really sorry that it is so tough, pa rt really sorry that it is so tough, part of what i want to do is make sure those that can change things just know how tough it is for you guys. How do you feel that you have got to speak about your situation . Im proud to be speaking to anne because if somebody wants to Say Something to someone, they cant say it to someone who is not speaking up. Youre right about speaking up so carry on up. Youre right about speaking up so carry on doing that, you should be really proud, but people like me, i have to go and tell the ministers what youre saying, and make sure that we carry on getting your message heard and also to schools and School Holidays about the School Holidays and the like. So its really great youre doing this. Thank you so much. Large clouds of painted lady butterflies have been spotted across the uk and they have been particularly prevalent in scotland. The phenomenon happens once ina scotland. The phenomenon happens once in a decade when the colourful insects turn up in huge numbers having migrated from europe and africa. Sightings have prompted cou ntless africa. Sightings have prompted countless pictures and videos on social media. If you have a phone or computer with you, it might be worth having a look, there are some spectacular images on display. The royal botanic keeper in edinburgh told me how wonderful it was to see butterflies in such large numbers. This week seeing thousands upon thousands of painted lady butterflies moving through the Royal Botanic Gardens in edinburgh and peoples own gardens, a fantastic experience for people to get close to nature. And to get familiar with painted ladies, if i may say so. Wonderful stories and biology. Just on the question of why this happens, we clear why every ten or so years you get this sudden explosion in the population of this species . It isa it is a culmination of factors, and they trigger this mass migration. You would expect to see in a normal year how many in the Botanic Gardens . A rough figure . We get them here every year, probably on any one week, 1015, thats a guess, but not as we have seen week, 1015, thats a guess, but not as we have seen on week, 1015, thats a guess, but not as we have seen on the plants this year. Ten or 15. As we have seen on the plants this year. Ten or15. It is a lovely image, the cloud of butterflies. It is not this thing of spotting a butterfly then it is gone among the flowers, it is all around you. This isa flowers, it is all around you. This is a good news story. Ive spent a lot of time at the botanics, this is not threatened butterfly, it is found in most continents and does not threatened. How lovely to celebrate that. It is a good way of engaging people with the natural world, joining the Butterfly Conservation that is running at the moment, and be inspired by nature, not just for now, for moment, and be inspired by nature, notjust for now, for future generations. Regarding Butterfly Conservation, there has been a lot of concern over the last few years that numbers are in decline for all kind of other reasons to do with development. What is the picture now in terms of butterfly populations in this country, obviously the butterfly count is doing specific work, but what you seeing . We know they are reducing numbers, and those with gardens and window boxes will see a reduction in species, which is mainly due to climate change, due to intensive farming methods, it is due to habitat destruction. But notjust in britain but across other parts of the world from where these butterflies migrate. Just so people have a sense of the season, how much longer can we hope to see them this summer . Some of them will end up in iceland, after moving north, and the painted lady is the only butterfly recorded in iceland, then we will see some coming back, backward migration, not as many going up not as many as going up because some will die on the way. This is about successive generations beating, so if you look at some plants like thistles, you may see caterpillars that this time of the year, black with little spots and stripes down the side. Lets enjoy the whole ecology of the butterfly. A 55 year old ultra runner has become the fastest woman to travel by foot between john 0groats and lands end. Sharon gayter covered the 822 miles in 12 days, 11 hours, 6 minutes, and 7 seconds. The previous record, set in 2008 and run from lands end tojohn 0groats, was more than four hours longer. Earlier i caught up with a very tired sharon gayterfrom lands end. You can train your legs, train your muscles, but you cannot train the impact of tarmac over 12 days. Are you quite a strong walker, or do you try to go quite gentle . I am a very quiet runner, you hear a gentle pitter patter, i make peoplejump out their skin, im very gentle on my feet. But that intensity, i suppose, will inevitably cause some damage. So, what have you been doing through the course of the journey to kind of mitigate the effects on your body . Because i gatherfrom hearing steph on breakfast this morning, you havent been getting a lot of sleep, so you have been running most of the day into quite well into the night. Yes, i have a little strategy i use, i run for three hours then have a short break to try to put some food in, then dunk my feet in iced water, then i run again. So i run in blocks of three hours a day, and that leavesjust three hours for sleep. How did you plan this . Presumably you had to be quite careful about how you established the stages to ensure you can make the kind of progress you needed to. Presumably you never thought you would get the record down that much . I had a plan for 12 days, and i hoped to break that, but there was a contingency so you kind of know things might not go according to plan, so there is a cushion so if things do go wrong you have something to play with, you dont plan it to the wire because you know things can happen unexpectedly, like bridge and road closures, which did happen lots of sites where there should be a subway, so things sort of slowed me down which were out of my control. Many congratulations to her. It isa it is a mixed picture across the country through this week, and it has been a cracking start for many southern and eastern parts and across northern and eastern scotland, the best of the sunshine throughout the afternoon. You will notice a few heavy showers pppin9 you will notice a few heavy showers ppping up you will notice a few heavy showers popping up across the Higher Ground of Northern England and into scotland, thicker cloud bringing patchy rain to northern ireland, but warm, 20 to 25 degrees across the uk. High pressure weakens, allowing low pressure to move on, giving outbreaks of rain, and some showers will develop into the afternoon. These could be quite heavy and thundery for scotland and Northern England. But it is going to be a warm day again, 26 in the south east. The met office have issued a lower level weather warning for parts of scotland, Northern England, for heavy showers and thunderstorms, and for those areas it isa thunderstorms, and for those areas it is a big deal.
