Be thankful for my opportunities. The opportunity to make the olympics. In export with minimal funding, each member of the squad has made their own sacrifices. Some have moved continents. has made their own sacrifices. Some have moved continents. Ijust got married, ive been away from my wife. I had to have a day a week where i could focus on e mails and replying to things and making sure i could be as supportive as possible for the players. All pay their own travel. Youve spent thousands of your own money . Easily, yeah. With only six teams taking part in tokyo, qualifying will be no easy task. Can we make it to the olympics . Hell, yeah aml we make it to the olympics . Hell, yeah am i supposed to say that . Cut that everything has lined up this year. I that everything has lined up this year. Lam that everything has lined up this year. I am very confident we will get to the olympics. Is the belief, drive and commitment is there, hopefully, the results will follow. Before we go, andy murrays golden post box has been reistated after it was knocked down by a car last night. The post box in his home town of dunblane in scotland was painted after murray won gold at the london olympics in 2012. It was hit by a car in a low speed collision and nobody was hurt. Thats all from sportsday, well have more throughout the evening. More on our main story. Boris johnson was the favourite from the start and has now been voted as conservative leader. Borisjohnson gained around double the votes of jeremy hunt from conservative Party Members. In his victory speech, he promised to unite the country and deliver brexit by the deadline of the 31st of october. We will discuss this with Stephen Crabb in our westminster studio. You didnt bank borisjohnson of westminster studio. You didnt bank Boris Johnson of the westminster studio. You didnt bank borisjohnson of the leadership election, you back to what did you think about his assertion he can deliver brexit by october the 31st . Hes made a great start, i thought the tone he struck in his remarks after the victory announcement was made and then his remarks to conservative mps at the 1922 committee, i thought those were exactly right. Hes created a mood in the camp at westminster of optimism and hope. And part of boris strength is that hes a dealer in optimism and dreams. Ive a lwa ys dealer in optimism and dreams. Ive always felt that unravelling the conundrum brexit and getting a deal across the line and rational, pragmatic outcome will require more than just force a personality and the charisma. So what we need to see now, i think, the charisma. So what we need to see now, ithink, is the charisma. So what we need to see now, i think, is a different kind of boris as Prime Minister compared to the borisjohnson that campaigned so successfully to become tory leader. That was a judicious answer, if i may say so, but that is the difficulty. You can speak optimistically and about sunny uplands, but we need to see detail 110w. Uplands, but we need to see detail now. I come back to the question, given the detail hes in, is it at all realistic to say he can deliver brexit by the end of october . Hes actually quite well placed. I told him when i met him face to face in private at the start of the leadership campaign, given his brexit credentials amongst Party Members and amongst mps, hes in a strong position to pull off a compromise, explain it to the brexit hardliners in my own party and explain to the country why this needs to happen. Hes got a choice of whether to take this pragmatic route or to carry on with the table thumping, rhetorical style that hes struck during the leadership race. Because sooner rather than later, hes going to come face to face with the reality of the brexit problem, the reality of the brexit problem, the details of the deal that has already been negotiated, the details of the problems in Northern Ireland, how you deal with issues at dover and calais all these type of things, its not enough to just be optimistic and speak with upbeat enthusiasm, he needs a clear and pragmatic plan. So you think there isa pragmatic plan. So you think there is a possibility that the true believers in brexit in your party might be more prepared to accept compromise from Boris Johnson, might be more prepared to accept compromise from borisjohnson, a lever leaver, than they were theresa may . Do you sense any hint of compromise amongst erg, for example . Iam compromise amongst erg, for example . I am clutching at straws in this answer, to be honest. Some liken it to nixon going to china and pulling offa to nixon going to china and pulling off a peace deal with china because nixon had been such a hard line on communism. I think there is a went opportunity at that boris has got to do something similar with brexit. The trouble is, so many of the people who are his most vocal, enthusiastic supporters do now believe that no deal brexit is the only true brexit. Thats something i dont believe, something a lot of conservative members and Business People dont believe. There is another way out of this, we dont have to go down the route of a damaging no deal. I hope that boris as Prime Minister will pave it to that more pragmatic, rational outcome. One last question, a by election next week, as you know, in brecon and radnorshire, your neck of the woods, if you like, is this the first electoral test that Boris Johnson will face . The polling at the moment suggest that the conservatives are lagging behind the limb turns . It will be a test for boris, that the campaign has been running for quite a number of weeks of there. The senses that the issues behind that by election long predate this leadership contest. But i think it will do the party a world of good if boris was to come to wales, maybe drop into the campaign and show that hes backing the candidates. Make no mistake, i think that is going to be challenging day for us at that by election. Challenging day for us at that byelection. Thank you so much. Now its time for a look at the weather. It is certainly a hot day out there for many of us. We are seeing the highest temperatures across england and wales. Widely 30 degrees plus, with the peak of the heat likely to be around the london area, at around 35 degrees. Very hot, but also very humid, and thats going to lead to some thunderstorms developing overnight. Initially, some thundery downpours moving across the Channel Islands into the west country and wales. Not far from the southeast of england and all that heat. Up to the midlands, northern england, towards Northern Ireland and scotland, very few places staying dry. The rain could be torrential, accompanied by some hail and very gusty winds. Its also going to be very humid. An uncomfortable night towards the south east in particular, where it may well stay dry. But a lot of places are going to get some very wet weather overnight. A noisy night as well. It becomes drier during the morning. Sunshine developing far and wide. A slight change in the wind direction means that, for many western areas, it wont be quite as hot as today, and even towards eastern england, where we will see the highest temperatures, there is going to be a peak of 33 or 34. Youre watching beyond 100 days. Boris johnson is confirmed as the new leader of the conservative party, fulfilling a lifetime ambition. The incoming Prime Minister beat his opponent 2 votes to one but now faces the mammoth task of uniting party and country. Full of optimism and the can do spirit but how will he fix Britains Brexit problem . Deliver brexit, unite the country and defeatjeremy corbyn, and that is what we are going to do. Tomorrow mrjohnson will visit the queen to ask permission to form a government. Not in post war history has a pm faced such a daunting task.
