Our top story england have won the mens cricket world cup for the first time in an extraordinary finish to a tense final at lords. The main match ended in a tie, which meant the game went to a super over to decide the winner, and it went down to the very last ball. We all now fully understand what is super over is now. Heres our Sports Correspondent john watson. Englands men, World Champion for the very first time. Proving it on the very first time. Proving it on the biggest stage by the tightest of margins. After seven weeks of compelling cricket, who would have predicted this . 0h, compelling cricket, who would have predicted this . Oh, no but we did it. We did it. And it was brilliant. Job delivered it. We did it. And it was brilliant. Job delivered World Champions have you ever seen a job delivered World Champions have you ever seen a game job delivered World Champions have you ever seen a game that tight . England england wrote history today. Welcome home. That is the greatest one day cricket match of all time. To when it england needed 15 runs from the final six balls. Step forward ben stokes. After smashing a six, a lucky break, having run to this throughput is about and england had four more. Two needed then for world cup glory. 0ne short, the scores were tied. A super over was settle it, the penalty shoot out of cricket, six balls each. Back came butler and ben stokes as england made 15. Now, new zealands turn. Meeting two to win, desperate. Zealands turn. Meeting two to win, desperate. Commentator historic into this contest. By virtue of having scored more boundaries through the match, the wind was englands. It went in the direction of joss englands. It went in the direction ofjoss but are trying to catch it. To me and the team and everyone who has been involved over the past four years, it means absolutely everything in the planning, the hard work, the dedication. After such tension, time to cool off, just as these fans did watching in Trafalgar Square. England world cup winners. It was still thinking in at lords, a magical match, a fitting finale, england, world cup winners. John watson, bbc news. You cannot help but smile, can you . We should display that over again. Some good news is good. And of course, theres been a lot of reaction on twitter. It was great to watch it and then look at what everyone is saying on twitter. I was on a train the queen sent her warmest congratulations to the team after a thrilling victory. She also sent commiserations to the runners up new zealand, who she said competed so admirably throughout the tournament. To write. You have to feel sorry for them. Too right the leader of the labour party, jeremy corbyn, congratulated every member of the england team. He said the game shows what you can achieve with a slice of luck and when you never give up. Mr corbyn also commented on why it should be free to watch on tv. That is a big debate around this, isnt it. Be interesting to see those channel a figures later on, as well as on sky. The Prime Minister theresa may, who was at lords, posted Dancing Queen shes even included a gif of her and her husband philip doing a celebratory dance to mark the occasion. Ido i do not know whether that was at lords. We were probably not allowed to do that at lords. The celebrate we dance. That will be forever used now. And sally is here. Do you really think the queen tweeted . Do you really think the queen tweeted . Maybe she asked somebody to do it for her. But it gives you some indication of the seismic nature of what happened in london yesterday. Across town in south west london you had the means wimbledon final but also, you know, cricket was possibly well, it was the most dramatic cricket match i have ever seen. And then we have the key moments from yesterday because quite simply, you would not have predicted what would have happened next. A super over . What on earth is that . My head, i am thinking of penalties in the football, basically, because there was nothing to separate these two sides, absolutely nothing. Even after the super over. And it basically went to boundaries and thatis basically went to boundaries and that is our england won it so you couldnt have predicted it, you have to really, really credit Andrew Strauss and eoin morgan and the ecb oi strauss and eoin morgan and the ecb or changing the way that england had changed cricket and changing the way that they prepare and train. They we re that they prepare and train. They were ready, they were favourites coming in, but in the end, i think england deserved it. They deserved to win. Tough on new zealand but a glorious moment for englands cricketers as they went yesterday. Look at that. Lots of friends and families and babies are celebrating. If you have not got a baby, grab one it is the essential accessory for celebrating sport. What a brilliant day. And you mentioned it being on free to air television and thatis being on free to air television and that is the key. Hopefully lots of boys and girls saw that at home and thought my goodness, but is an incredible, exciting game to play. It is summer, lets get outside and have a go. There was some criticism it hadnt really set the world alight. Criticism i think is a fair word, you would not debate, it had been criticism and one of the problems has been it is not always easy for everyone to watch because you have to pay to watch. Easy for everyone to watch because you have to pay to watchlj easy for everyone to watch because you have to pay to watch. I think its at the world alight at the end, the very end. It did in my front room. We all went crazy. And tennis as well later. But mainly cricket. Netballers well. Superbikes. That is all you need to know. Well see you later. A manta ray that approached a group of drivers for help after getting hooks caught in their eye is not happily on the road to recovery. Look at this. Affectionately named after the patterns on its belly, freckles, it is incredible, isnt it . It stopped near the group off the coast of western australia. And she flipped right over and just let them do it which they were amazed by. They are incredibly intelligent creatures. They were amazed by. They are incredibly intelligent creatureslj am incredibly intelligent creatures. ama incredibly intelligent creatures. am a great big manta ray, i could do that here. Are you 0k, sally . We will talk about the papers in a moment because they are packed with sport, arent they, this morning . Normally we talk about the back pages but today, they are the front pages, everything is a sport celebration and the weather was pretty good as well. Hey, matt. Todayis pretty good as well. Hey, matt. Today is since weapons day and is legend goes if it rains today it will be dry for the next a0 days and if it rains today it will if it rains today it will be dry for the next a0 days and if it rains today it will rain for the next a0 days. Dry today but will it last . It doesnt because by the end of the week, all of us will see wet and windy weather arrive in off the atlantic so if you are on your School Holidays and what to make the most of the first half of the week and then this morning for the morning rush hour we have High Pressure in charge, low pressure being kept at bay and it will bring rain later on. The High Pressure here, temperatures into single fingers through the night so a little bit cool and some cloud on the eastern coast, particularly south east and east anglia to start, break here and sunny conditions elsewhere, warming up as well with the strong sunshine overhead. Cloud across east anglia and the south east will break up into the afternoon leaving a fine afternoon for many with temperatures at levels they should be, the warmest in the west. A little bit cooler down those eastern coasts but even here, the winds will be falling lighter than they were during the weekend and of course with strong sunshine ahead it will feel warm where you have that sunshine. Isolated showers to end the day across the hills, maybe in the day across the hills, maybe in the cumbrian fells, tonight will be dry with clear skies and if you mist and fog patches around and cloud increases in the north west later with a few showers possible and tonight, the coolest down eastern districts whether winds will be lightest and then single figures, most in double figures to start the morning but tomorrow, most dry, sunniest in the southern and east, more cloud across scotland, Northern Ireland, england, sunshine is hazy in places and see heavier showers developing and most will stay dry, avoiding the showers altogether and tomorrow, the highest of the temperatures are southern and eastern areas and we could hit around 2a or 25 degrees. While most of us start dryers are going to wednesday the low pressure creeps towards us and the change to Winter Weather starts to begin. The scene for wednesday is england and wales have the best of the hazy sunshine, some showers through the day, but grey and windy across scotland and Northern Ireland through the day. 0utbreaks Northern Ireland through the day. Outbreaks of rain, erratic to start, in the Western Areas, heavier bursts the other temperatures dropping back to what we will see over the next two days, still 25 healthy as possible towards the south west with a humid feel more in the way of rain on wednesday night, particularly for the northern half of the country with the weather fronts moving their way off into thursday, so thursday is back to largely dry conditions with one or two showers but we see the we cut on friday with all of us seeing some rain and for the gardeners across southern parts of the uk, that last potentially more substantial rain for you. That is how the weather week is looking. I love the way you said substantial rain with a smile. Say it with a smile and nobody will notice he gets away with it, doesnt he . What a monday morning, so much sporting celebration. Wonderful, isnt it . Lets take a look at todays papers, and unsurprisingly theres one sporting event thats dominating both the front and back pages. Who said cricket was boring . Asks the daily telegraphs front page. Lots of people saying that lots of people saying that i was having that conversation yesterday morning former england skipper Michael Vaughan calls it the most amazing cricket match i have ever seen. Well be chatting to him a bit later on as well. The mirrors back page simply says super men. Kiss that says were on top of the world is the daily mails headline under a picture of final hero ben stokes and his wife clare. The paper calls the victory an epic display of resilience, perseverance and sheer bloody mindedness. Are we allowed to say that . You just did, youre in trouble metros headline champagne super over also reflects on englands thrilling World Cup Final victory over new zealand. We were asking what a super over was yesterday afternoon. And finally the times features a special wraparound which says, simply, World Champions. A good time to do it, just to get that shot. What a picture. Absolutely brilliant. Theyve got that little quote from Andrew Strauss, thats basically all you need to knows top and if you missed this for any reason yesterday, thats all you need to know. Is that true . Certainly the greatest we have seen and we have a re cord greatest we have seen and we have a record of from the tv. Its true, couldnt have been any closer or any more dramatic and the characters involved couldnt have been any more interesting. All the papers are calling them heroes, back page of the mail captain eoin morgan lifting the trophy. That team is a really Interesting Group of players. We know the women have won the cricket world cup four, the first time for the men, and there from all over the place. They are a diverse bunch of men place. They are a diverse bunch of men they are. I tell you what, they deserve the win. They were favourites going in. At times they looked like they would completely blow it, but to win it in the way they did was totally incredible. I wonder what the papers would have said if england had just lost. Then the whole thing would have been ridiculously unfair the worst game in history but you have to say, new zealand, they were incredible in defeat. So gracious in defeat because it was a toss of a coin really at the end of the day. Some people in the papers saying they should call it raw. No, no the broadcasters in new zealand, i was listening to new Zealand Radio on the way in, and they said essentially it was a draw. Call ita essentially it was a draw. Call it a draw. Thats what they are saying there today. We will look at some of their Coverage Later because its interesting. Victoria, whats in the business . Anything business related . Its in the business . Lets go on a tour id be up for that best seat in the house for the tennis yesterday. I wa nt to house for the tennis yesterday. I want to show you these pictures of duchess of cambridge in the royal box yesterday. Its fair to say, i dont want to be mean, but she was probably rooting for roger because their mates. She handed out the trophy at the end they are. Their mates. She handed out the trophy at the end they are. She patted him on the shoulder at the end. I know they are mates. Thats another one that should have been a draw different styles as well. Hard to know who you want to win. There is grace and power. Wonderful to watch. The crowd wanted federer to win, you can really tell. In 1815, a muddy field in belgium was the location of one of the most important events in european history. The battle of waterloo was the final defeat of emperor napoleon. More than 200 years later, were still finding things out about that famous fight. The site is now being excavated for the first time, as part of a project to help veterans with post Traumatic Stress disorder. Gavin lee is there for us this morning and can tell us more. Theyre working with experts excavating parts of one of the most famous battle sites in the world for the first time. These are the fields where the battle of waterloo played out. Tens of thousands of british and allied troops and french soldiers fought and died, and in 200 years, this site hasnt been excavated and while the hope is of a significant find, the hope is of a significant find, the bigger ambition is the therapeutic element of the battlefield. Sean stocker from wales was severely injured in afghanistan. was on a routine foot troll and i stepped on an ied, which was about 100m away from where we were stationed. The charity waterloo uncovered also offers support to injured veterans. Emma raised smith suffered back injuries after a navy deployment. Shes already made a discovery. Its not heavy, yeah, so it must be french. Its a big one. Within our tea m french. Its a big one. Within our team had made a find, a french musket ball. Its knowing being able to excavate certain areas and trying to excavate certain areas and trying to retail that story could potentially change the history books with something significant as well. It was so tense, and so close against new zealand. The 50 overs ended in a draw so it went to a super over, effectively a penalty shoot out for cricket, and even that ended in a draw, and england won it because they scored more boundaries. To me and to the team and everyone who has been involved in the past couple of years, it means everything, the planning, the dedication the, the commitment, it has been an incrediblejourney. He beat Roger Federer in an extraordinary final that lasted longer than any other in the tournaments history. Andy swiss reports. A day to reach for the superlatives. One of wimbledons greatest finals between two of its greatest players. It was a battle of the bookies favourite against the sentimental one. But if Roger Federer had the support, it was Novak Djokovic that soon had the edge. Novak djokovic won the first and third set. Roger federer, the second and fourth. With the crowd on their feet, it was into a decider. But what followed almost defied belief. That i had two championship points, only for djokovic to do this. At 12 12, it was a tie break for the title, and after nearly five hours of drama, it went to djokovic. He seized the moment. Commentator it may be the shot of the decade. After five hours of nerve shredding drama. It had been wimbledons longest final, memorable for everyone, well, almost longest final, memorable for everyone, well, almost iwill try and forget it but, no, it was a great match. It was if not the most exciting and thrilling finals i was ever part of, then definitely top two, three in my career, against one of the greatest players of all time, roger, who i respect a lot. Cheering. So many of the fans here were hoping to see Roger Federer make history but instead, they got one of the most erratic finals. These championships have ever seen. A fifth title than for djokovic. A fifth title, then, for djokovic. It is fair to say he certainly earned it. Andy swiss, bbc news, wimbledon. And there was more. Away from wimbledon and lords, Lewis Hamilton was making history at another Great British sporting venue. He won a record sixth british grand prix at silverstone. Grime artist stormzy there with the chequered flag. It was by far and away the best race of the season so far as hamilton won his seventh race of the season, and stretch his lead at the top of the drivers championship. You would think you would get used to Something Like that but it feels like the first time and i am forever grateful for everyone who has come out and spent the whole weekend here. I really hope that you enjoyed your day. To the netball world cup in liverpool next, where england thrashed samoa to finish top of their group. Tracey nevilles side are now through to the second stage of the competition which starts today, and involves two groups of six. Only the top two teams from each of those groups qualify for the semi finals, and england play jamaica, who are ranked second in the world, this afternoon. Northern ireland are also through despite losing to zimbabwe in what was the closest game of the tournament so far. Northern ireland through as a third placed team and will face malawi in their next game later this morning. Keeping up . Scotland lost to uganda, but also go through as the Third Best Team in their group. Both sides went into this match with identical records so it was a stright shoot out for second place, which uganda secured. Scotland play south africa in the second round later this evening. Ican i can tell you, i was in liverpool at the weekend and it is buzzing for the world cup at the moment. Big crowds as well for those. Massive. Cani crowds as well for those. Massive. Can i get this right then . England go into anothergroup . Can i get this right then . England go into another group . And then they have to get in the top . Too. And then there is a super over. And then they throw a coin. No, no thank you, sally. Brilliant. You can take a breath now. Well, not quite. All cricket it is what the nation needs more cricket. Lets return to the cricket now. If yesterdays drama doesnt inspire children to pick up a cricket bat, then nothing will. Coaches up and down the country will be hoping the heroics of the england mens team will give a real boost to the sport and encourage more people to take part. Tim muffett is at a school in south west london, where pupils and teachers are celebrating this morning absolutely. Nice and early this morning and what an amazing game of cricket it was and this is the question, how do you inspire a new generation . Did you all watch the match . Yeah are you glad that england won . Yeah so this is the question, how do we get these guys playing the cricket into the future. This is a charity that promotes cricket in state schools on how big a deal is this . Massive, it is a real moment for us to really get cricket back into schools and get these kids playing cricket. We have reached over a million children in 14 reached over a million children in ia years with great reached over a million children in 1a years with great support from englands cricket board, Sport Englands cricket board, Sport England and our Charity Partner natwest but we need to make the most of the opportunity, just to give kids the opportunity to play, learn and develop the cricket but also to learn those skills, the life skills, teamwork, leadership, fair play, which we saw so much in abundance yesterday thanks ever so much and this is casey, from the ecb, how big a deal is this for your sport . A huge opportunity, we have a really big plan to grow the game over the next five years, we will be investing over £700 million to create more opportunities like this, double the number of kids playing in schools. You just got hit by a ball i should have caught that also focus on growing women and girls but more immediately, 10,000 spaces for kids in this age group to come out and try cricket and those are in your local area and you can find those on the ecb website. Some have said because it has not been mainly on free to air tv cricket risks becoming a niche sport and is that of their criticism . Absolutely not, we have engaged million children over the world cup so cricket is out there andl over the world cup so cricket is out there and i think from the game yesterday you saw how exciting it can be and these children were excited, all of my friends were texting me that cricket is exciting so texting me that cricket is exciting so definitely not a niche sport. Finally, do you think the nature of the match will help the sport . It was so the match will help the sport . It was so close. It was so exciting. You could not have written the script. I was lucky enough to be there and id had not seen a more nailbiting match, the team did religiously and i think it will really help us to grow the game and excite the next generation. really help us to grow the game and excite the next generation. I will risk life and limb and venture into the match. Can i pause you for a second and ask you what you thought of the match . Extremely close but we won so of the match . Extremely close but we won so im just happy that we won. just walked out and then when i heard a cheer, i came in and i realised we had one and i celebrated and climbed on the table and waved a flag. Good for you. How inspiring was it . Do you want to keep playing as you get older . It inspired us a lot. It inspires us to go on to play more and when we are older to become people like them. Did you watch the game as well, it was so close and exciting . It was fantastic because england had never won a game of cricket and it was their first super over as well and then they won it by that. It wasjust a miracle. I did not know what a super over was until i watch the match but it was a living curve for all of us. Thank you so much, learning curve. James, you are a teacher here and how important is it that these kids carry on playing this . Vitally important, it brings all the other skills, self worth, self esteem, it is vitally important and this is a watershed moment i think. Carry on with your fine skills here, we can admire itand with your fine skills here, we can admire it and maybe some potential future cricket stars but what mattered was, so exciting, so close. Do you know, i think there are some future stars here, some fine shots going on this morning. They look cracking, tim. Do we need to prepare them for the fact that cricket isnt a lwa ys them for the fact that cricket isnt always that exciting . One lad said it like that then, the reason it was so it like that then, the reason it was so good is england have never won a match before that might be his view normally slightly slower than that, the final bit anyway heres matt with a look at this mornings weather. I got sunburned when camping in devon, it was lovely theres a lot of make up on there there always has to be good morning. How is this for a monday morning sunrise, captured in the last hour in manchester. If legend is true, sense with and stay, we will see that for the next a0 days but we live in the uk and it wont be true. The next few days, some sunshine, and in the south, good news for the gardeners, wet and windy weather into the second half of the week but for most today, a dry monday, and low pressure will bring wet and windy weather. Temperatures down to five in parts of 0xfordshire last night but warming up nicely now the sun is up. More cloud in eastern counties of england and scotland, much like yesterday, some of that will break and the breeze noticeable in the north to the south east, but most places will see light winds today and with temperatures up to 2a across Western Areas, and that gentle breeze, it will feel particularly warm. A few late showers to finish in parts of the high ground of south west england, west wales and maybe the cumbrian fells but very few with the vast majority staying dry into tonight. More cloud pushing into the north and west, may be a few showers here but most into the morning with clear skies and the coldest areas tonight where the skies are lightest. Warmer tomorrow with sunshine in eastern areas. Sunshine in the west turning hazy, a few showers possible in Northern Ireland, scotland and the far north of england and maybe thunder in the north of scotland but few in number with most places being dry and staying pleasantly warm. Southern and eastern areas warmer today, 25 for one or two. To the second half of the week, things are changing and this low pressure system changing and this low pressure syste m gets changing and this low pressure system gets closer and closer. Not quite with it for wednesday in the south and east, dry and bright with sunshine, especially for england and wales and increasingly hazy in the west and greyer skies in scotland and Northern Ireland with the greater chance of rain before the day is out. With more of a breeze, feeling cooler but its coming from the south west so it will feel more humid in england and wales with temperatures widely in the 20s. More significant rain to take us through wednesday night in the north in particular. Cant promise all the gardens in the south rain on wednesday night and into thursday, most wednesday night and into thursday, m ost pla ces wednesday night and into thursday, most places will be dry. A few showers on thursday but a breezy day to come across the country. By friday, another area of low pressure swings in and this time its england and wales mobiles turn for the more significant rainfall and for the pa rt significant rainfall and for the part gardens in southern england and wales, that rain will be a welcome sight england and wales. But today to get your week under way, under sunny skies. Its been a while since weve had any drops of rain. We could do with it, my garden is looking very parched at the moment Car Insurance premiums are on the rise, averaging nearly £800 according to one comparison website. Victoria is here to tell us more. This annoys the viewers when we talk about Car Insurance. Whats going on . Its outrageous. It keeps rising and rising. Yes, these are figures from the comparison website confused. Com. They track 6 million quotes with regional, age, location and gender breakdowns. Theyve looked at the three months from april tojune and found Car Insurance premiums have risen on average by £27, thats about 3 . Might not sound like much. If you put that into context. The average cost of insuring a car is now £789, thats the highest its been for about 18 months. And if you look over the past 10 years, average Car Insurance costs have gone up byjust over £250, or 50 . This is huge. It depends on who you are. If youre a young person, they are. If youre a young person, they are even higher still. So whats behind the increases . Couple of reasons. They have got a ton of data, so its about the risk, so premiums have gone up, especially for young people. They are statistically more likely to have a crash and also to have people in the car, so if something happened and there was a horrendous crash, that will be factored into those premiums so thats why they are a bit more. Theres also Something Else a bit sneaky going on. A tax Insurance Companies have to pay and gone up four times since october, 2015 and thats being factored into the amount of money we are all paying for Car Insurance. What can we do, once the advice . That is a good question whats the advice . Always shop around. Half of us dont other, even though Insurance Companies have to tell you what your last premium was and how much it is going up by but we look at that and make the comparison and dont necessarily shop around so have a look around, check the paperwork and get a few more quotes. We switch with Energy Companies and broadband but often not with insurance. Theres no reason why you shouldnt. Shop around and see what you can get and make that decision. These rises arent necessarily a given, so have arent necessarily a given, so have a look around before you go and get another policy. I love the fact we have used a supercar with our graphic thats just from the have used a supercar with our graphic thatsjust from the garage at home one of the many we will be talking about superca rs at home one of the many we will be talking about supercars later, two lads who have got a garage in essex and they have been doing them up and they have their own show. They will be on the sofa later on. A fun couple of lads last year, the internet went into meltdown when disney released a surprise trailer for its live action remake of the lion king. Now ever since lots of fans have been waiting for it to arrive. Now, finally, the wait is over. The star of the movie, including Donald Glover and beyonce, were at the premiere in london last night, along with the duke and duchess of sussex. And our entertainment correspondent lizo mzimba. The duke and duchess chatting to some of the hundreds of fans whod gathered in Leicester Square for the premiere. Then it was time for real life royalty to meet showbiz royalty, led by beyonce, who voices a character in the film, and her husband jay z. As well as other members of the cast and the team behind the movie. Even though some of the reviews have been less than spectacular, theres still a huge amount of anticipation for the film because the original lion king is particularly loved by audiences who went to see it in such numbers it became disneys biggest film of the 20th century. Became disneys biggest film of the 20thcentury. Everything you see. Exists together in a delicate balance. This time around, the storys been brought to life using Computer Generated characters and backgrounds, but has kept the familiar characters from the original, including the comedic pair to moan and pember. Let me see what were dealing with here. Its a lion wait, wait, wait, its a real lion wait, wait, wait, its a real lion it gets bigger. We did all our recording together, which was a rare opportunity, and you can really tell because we were able to improvise and respond to one another in real time andl and respond to one another in real time and i think it gives our stuff and incredibly naturalistic field, which is awesome. Runaway, simba, and never return. Because of the affection so many have for the story, as well as the Massive Box Office from the original, the head office from the original, the head of disney, currently hollywoods most successful studio, knows theres a lot based on getting the story right. This is what i would call our crown jewels, one of our most successful, enduring and successful but theres a lot of pressure but we are pleased with whatjohn favreau pressure but we are pleased with what john favreau has pressure but we are pleased with whatjohn favreau has done. Pressure but we are pleased with what john favreau has done. Theres a lot of fans, especially those growing up with the animated film. You have the cast, the new audience, so you have the cast, the new audience, so theres a lot to balance to get this right but im happy with how ha rd this right but im happy with how hard everyone worked and the wonderful interpretations people brought to the roles and to the songs. Its the circle of life disney have had a lot of success in recent yea rs disney have had a lot of success in recent years updating animated classics, like beauty and the beast and aladdin, for the 21st century. Theyll be hoping that the lion king will be maintaining that winning streak. Lizo mzimba, bbc news, Leicester Square. Looks a bit scary at the end. Yeah, lots of talk about that. We will discuss whether. Lots of talk about that. We will discuss whether. Should they be thinking of new things or should they be remaking and rebranding . Lion king is a good thing. Yes, if youre going to be remaking anything. We dont need to remake yesterdays match because england won the mens cricket world cup. Two needed, then, for world cup glory. 0ne short. The scores were tied. A super over would settle it the penalty shoot out of cricket, six balls each. Back came buttler and ben stokes as england made 15. Now, new zealands turn. Needing two to win, a desperate dash. Commentator an historic end to this contest. By virtue of having scored more boundaries throughout the match, the win was englands. Everyone went in the direction ofjos buttler trying to catch it. To me and to the team and everybody who has been involved over the past four years, it means absolutely everything in the planning, the hard work, the dedication. After such tension, time to cool off just as these fans did watching in Trafalgar Square. England, world cup winners it was still sinking in at lords. A magical match, a fitting finale. England, world cup winners. John watson, bbc news. Twitter and facebook have been in absolute meltdown about this all afternoon and all night last night and the queen led them out there on twitter. And sally is here. I , wasnt it ridiculous . 0ne , wasnt it ridiculous . One of the most dramatic finishes to any sporting event i think i have ever seen. Sporting event i think i have ever seen. Of course it went to a super over, asjohn watson was saying in his report, like a penalty shoot out. But where does this rank, if we look generally, 2005 english cricket in the ashes and the victory there, that is right up at the top of them but in this form of the game, what is interesting about this isa game, what is interesting about this is a different style of play, different style of the game and something that will may draw more kids into watch the game or people wanting to watch it on television maybe dont take so long to watch it, and you can see the huge crowds in Trafalgar Square enjoying the moment when england won and do not forget how narrow this was, on the boundary count was where they won it which was ridiculous. boundary count was where they won it which was ridiculous. I wonder how many people have tuned in who have not watched cricket before because it felt like everybody on social media was saying watch this, it does not get more exciting. You have to say what is the legacy now . Will more people and more young kids play . More people watch it on the television . You saw play . More people watch it on the television . You saneremy corbyns tweeting that it was on free to air television, and it was on channel a, because of the deal that sky had done, but if also to think that they should be on Subscription Television . Personally, free to air means the kids or watch it and they will go out in the street and have a play. It is expectations as well because cricket is not always that exciting. No. You said it. Ithink is not always that exciting. No. You said it. I think if you watched but yesterday and if you expect everything to be like that you would be disappointed but it was a brilliant advertisement. Perfect time for that. Thank you, sally. More later. There is so much that to talk about, isnt there . Lets look at some of the other news now. The mayor of london, sadiq khan, is launching a series of projects designed to protect children from knife crime during the Summer Holidays. Dominic casciani, bbc news. The government was too slow to respond to mob protests outside primary schools in birmingham triggered by lessons that include lgbt topics this is according to the woman tasked with challenging extremism. In an exclusive interview with panorama, sara khan said the department for education should have done more to support head teachers. The government says its been clear from the outset. Sima kotecha has this report. Let kids. All . Be kids head teacher protesters outside schools in birmingham have been campaigning against the use of storybooks featuring same sex couples, part of programmes teaching about equality. Most pupils at the schools are muslim. The protesters say their religion doesnt accept homosexuality. She comes home and says why do i have two mummies, why do i have two daddies . How are you meant to explain that . It is brainwashing and confusing them. Now, the lead commissioner for countering extremism sara khan has described what shes seen birmingham as a mob who are chanting and shouting and engaging in intimidating behaviour. Shes accused the government of being too slow to act. The dfe could have done so much more. I think they were too slow to respond and to be able to provide support to head teachers who are experiencing something thats really quite traumatic, but also clarifying whats actually being taught to pupils in school. In 2020, the government wants all schools to teach lgbt content as part of new compulsory relationship and Sex Education. The guidance was changed because the world has changed. We want children to grow up understanding that some people are different, some relationships are different from what they may have experienced, but all are valuable. Sara khan says shes now concerned what might happen next. I am worried that how, when rsc comes formally into the curriculum in 2020, this will escalate even further. Panorama has spoken to other religious groups around the country who are looking to build campaigns of their own. Sima kotecha, bbc news. A manta ray which approached a group of divers for help after getting hooks caught in her eye is now on the road to recovery. This is quite a story, this one. Affectionately named after the patterns on its belly, freckles stopped near the group off the coast of western australia, clearly in distress. She waited patiently while they removed the fishing hooks. She flipped over. The divers who helped say theyve since checked up on her, and shes thankfully doing well. Amazing amount of trust. Such intelligent animals. I once had the pleasure of swimming with them and they are so clever. They went through this cleaning station where they would swim along and little fish would come up and clean them and they would go off and then the next manta ray would come in. It was like a next manta ray would come in. It was likea carwash next manta ray would come in. It was like a car wash fascinating to see how they work. They say they have the biggest brands for any kind of squid. Lets return to the cricket now and englands win at the mens cricket world cup dominates most of the front and back pages. And quite a lot of the middle pages as well lets take a look. Who said cricket was boring . Asks the daily telegraphs front page. Isaid i said that yesterday morning but i live to regret that. Lots of people have been talking about that. Former england skipper Michael Vaughan calls it the most amazing cricket match i have ever seen. The mirrors back page simply says super men. Kiss that says were on top of the world is the daily mails headline under a picture of final hero ben stokes and his wife clare. The paper calls the victory an epic display of resilience, perseverance and sheer bloody mindedness. After the super over, which we all now know about. Metros headline champagne super over also reflects on englands thrilling World Cup Final victory over new zealand. A lot of reaction and im sure someone a lot of reaction and im sure someone who will have a lot to say is the former england player who played of course for england in the 1987 World Cup Final. Good morning to you. I bet you have had quite a day of it yesterday absolutely, what a story, what a way to finish and one of the great occasions of probably and definitely my lifetime. I have mates who are older than me and they always refer back to 1966 world cup. Now this story, what happened yesterday at lords, we will replay that for generations to come. It was the most brilliant. I was gobsmacked. I have never seen a game of cricket finish like that before ever. That was it, everyone was searching for what a super oval was. Where did you watch it, gladstone . In my local pub, where i have probably watched most of the last, most of the previous months cricket from so i decided i would watch with my mates so the pub was absolutely buzzing and rather than watching football or rugby so it is great to see cricket being highlighted like that and obviously here this morning, i am at a school and seeing the youngsters here, i met a little girl and she was at the oval on the opening game there one month ago and when the players take their children out to sing the National Anthem plays . , their children out to sing the National Anthem plays . , she was there and now i am at her school watching these kids play cricket and thatis watching these kids play cricket and that is the best agassi of what legacy of what has happened since yesterday and guys like me, i am too old, my body hurts too much to play and the likes of ben stokes who was brilliant yesterday and chris woakes and archer and joe root, i remember seeing these sorts of guys that i have seen for a long time but 10 15 yea rs have seen for a long time but 10 15 years time they will be like me so it is up to what happened yesterday is for, is to be enhancing these youngsters and giving them a chance to say listen, this is a great game, a great sport to play and how you can get involved, boys and girls as well, dont forget we always go on about the men in our guys winning it for the first time but we mustnt forget the ladies beat us to it a few years ago. It shows how hard it was to do this. Thats what sport can do. Youve got massive highs. My own story was 1992, the last time we were in the final, i was 12th man and i remember sitting on the roller crying with robin smith, my great mate before the start of play. Then watching the game unfold and the highs and lows, exactly what those players have gone through yesterday. Just being in a pub with mates. Watching grown men cry, crying with tears ofjoy and laughter and you have to feel sorry for the kiwis. Great sportsman and a big loss for them. Listen, the legacy of this is obviously what sport can do and how it can get eve ryo ne sport can do and how it can get everyone involved. Im here with the chaps to do what theyve done through this world cup, outreach to schools and children all over the country to let them see what a great sport cricket is. Teachers, here they are, the kids are playing cricket and the teachers can go onto the website and access activities inside the class or in the playground to get youngsters active and enjoying themselves and playing and enjoying themselves and playing a Wonderful Team game. Fantastic to you, gladstone, your smile says it all for us thank you. Thank you. A big smile to finish. Graham has been in touch, he said i havent been behind the sofa like that for a tv game since the daleks for doctor who in the 19705. Game since the daleks for doctor who in the 1970s. There was a certain amount of fear matt, did you hide behind the sofa . I think my heart rate was more than my wife, who did an eight mile run earlier in the day what a start, blue skies overhead, st swithuns day, so legend has it we will have sunshine for the next a0 days thats not the case because we live in the uk. Wetand not the case because we live in the uk. Wet and windy weather on the way, still in the atlantic, though. High pressure with us, very little wind with it and a cool start. Five in parts of 0xfordshire overnight. Cloud in north and east scotland, down to eastern counties, that will thin and break and the winds in eastern areas not as strong as they have been, still cool here but further west, blue skies overhead for match of the day and feeling pleasa ntly warm for match of the day and feeling pleasantly warm with temperatures 20 to 2a degrees in Western Areas and in the teens in the Western Areas eastern areas much of the day. A few late showers in the hills of south east england, the mountains of wales, may be cumbrian fells but most will be dry into tonight with clear spells and a few mist and fog patches. Cloud increasing in western scotla nd patches. Cloud increasing in western scotland and Northern Ireland, and we could get the odd shower in the morning and temperatures at the lowest in eastern districts, single figures to start the day. For most, a decent start to tuesday, a bit of sunshine around and much asia in Western Areas and Northern Areas compared to today and a few showers much hazy. Most areas will stay dry much hazy. 0n on wednesday, the signs of a change for the west, mostar dry and bright on wednesday. The best of the sunshine in england and wales most start. The breeze picks up and we see outbreaks of rain developing widely before the day is out. Temperatures down a bit with more breeze and cloud but elsewhere, still in the 20s. Back to you both. Matt, thank you. A lot of gardeners will be pleased with that with a bit of rain finally on the way. Where are you . Good morning. This is the Field Hospital location at waterloo, one of the most famous battles in the world. Word team is already at work, some service men and women working with archaeologists, specialist, Mental Health workers and poets and all sorts of people offering a therapeutic and different kind of treatment to service men and women whove been through unimaginable stress and trauma in conflicts. Ive spent some time looking at how this project works. Soldiers from recent war zones are digging up a battlefield of the past. British servicemen and women whove suffered trauma in iraq and afghanistan are in belgium taking part in an archaeological project aimed at helping to treat ptsd. Theyre working with experts excavating parts of one of the most famous battle sites in the world for the first time. These are the fields where the battle of waterloo played out. Tens of thousands of british and allied troops and french soldiers fought and died, and in 200 years, this site hasnt been excavated, and while the hope is of a significant find, the bigger ambition is the therapeutic element of the battlefield. Im wearing my little stubby legs, my short legs, because the grass is too long to walk on my longer limbs. This is the environment i love to be in. Sean stocker from wales was severely injured in afghanistan. I was on a routine foot patrol and i stepped on an ied, which was about 100m away from where we were stationed. What were doing here with the metal detectors today is pretty much what we were doing then, but i was looking for ieds rather than artefacts or pieces of metal that could relate to this battlefield. The charity waterloo uncovered also offers support to injured veterans. Emma wray smith suffered back injuries after a navy deployment. Shes already made a discovery. Theyre trying to help define the story of this battle, and its doing it together and being in a team and sharing that experience. Working with people whove actually fought in wars gives this sort of project a totally different dimension, and in a way it brings it to life. They read a landscape in a way an archeologist just doesnt, they read the landscape in the way where their life depends on it, or has done in the past. Ben reid served several tours in iraq and was diagnosed with ptsd ten years ago. Ijust became a totally, totally different person and things werent adding up, and i was blaming everyone else around me for all my troubles, and then the worst part of it was i then started. I say started, i took a massive overdose because i was living with the horrors of war. Archaeology, i find its very smoothing, its very relaxing. Youre not getting yourself into a frenzy where suddenly everything around you starts falling apart. But this, you can literally take your time because its attention to detail, and being a former soldier, thats kind of bredded into you anyway, attention to detail, and i absolutely love it. Its not heavy, so yeah, so it must be french. Yeah, its a big one. Within ours, the team had made a find a french musket ball. Its knowing being able to excavate certain areas and trying to retell that story could potentially change the history books with something significant as well. They will spend two weeks working working through the fields of waterloo. Whether they make a major discovery or not, the charity is already planning a return here to help veterans cope with life after the battlefield. Its worth saying the team have actually had quite an incredible amount of success with discoveries. Let me bring in professor tony from glasgow university, the archaeological director, and mark eva ns, archaeological director, and mark evans, the co founder of this. Tony, lets show us some of these discoveries. Most exciting is this object here. An iron cannonball, a six pounder, and it came from the middle of the tube just behind us and we think this was probably fired late in the day of the battle, feel the weight of it, it has lost a bit of weight from the rust, a junkie bit of kit middle of the chewed. They brought two batteries of Horse Soldiers middle of the orchard. This represents the crisis of the battle. This is the point at which napoleon probably came closest to winning, almost broke that line, but he didnt. Tony, thank you. Mark, a brief word with you. You co founded this but this is fantastic, in terms of the therapeutic treatment . Certainly for the soldiers here. What we do isnt therapy but its definitely therapeutic. Being involved in a project that has Public Interest is great for people, it helps them very much with their recovery. Its not just it helps them very much with their recovery. Its notjust physical and Mental Health we look at, it is longer term. Education, employment, well being and transition, longer term. Education, employment, well being and transition, moving from the military world to the civilian world. Mark evans and tony, thank you. A few days work, soldiers working with archaeologists, musket balls, cannonballs, a bit of a pipe here, an english pipe from the battlefield. There at it, another week looking on battle of waterloo they are at it. Week looking on battle of waterloo they are at it. Theyve got all the balls time now to get the news, travel and weather where you are. See you in a minute. Good morning from bbc london news, im tolu adeoye. A bit of mixed picture across the capital this week. Some wet and windy weather by the end of the working week, but until then, High Pressure dominates and its looking dry or mostly dry, therell be plenty of cloud around at times but also some sunshine. Now, today set to be a dry day, the best early brightness in western Home Counties and a cooler start to the morning as well. Lots of cloud around, especially in central and eastern areas. Keeping the cloud in the morning and breaking up into the afternoon, so some sunny spells developing. Weve still got that cool and light northerly breeze, top temperatures 20 to 22. Heading through this evening and overnight, again it will stay dry and a lot of the cloud will have broken up so good clear spells and temperatures will drop back into single figures for some rural spots as we head into tomorrow morning, so a locally cool start to the day. Tomorrow, a lot more sunshine around and the winds will be light. Highs of 25, those temperatures creeping up before the wet and windy weather sets in by thursday and friday. Im back with the latest from bbc london in half an hour. Plenty more on our website at the usual address. Bye for now. Good morning. Welcome to breakfast with Steph Mcgovern and jon kay. A jet powered flyboard soared over paris this weekend to mark the bastille day celebrations. Look at this. We all want to have a go at this. The french inventor Franky Zapata hovered above the skyline. We will see it in a second. We need to see it believe me, it was amazing. The formerjet skiing champion and military reservist clutched a rifle as he rode the board above the champs elysees. Look at that. It can reach speeds of up to 118mph. I would love a go on that i reckon president macron would as well. Total jealousy. President macron would as well. Totaljealousy. I want to go next flyboard air is a cross between a jetpack and hoverboard and is powered by gas turbines. Back to the future, marty mcfly lives. Imagine one of those to get around in the morning. Parking is a nightmare. Coming up is the weather but first, sport. You thought that hop aboard was unbelievable, what happened yesterday . I was dizzy did you have seven screens on the go . pressed paws on one thing and watched the tennis properly and that i caught watched the tennis properly and that icaught up watched the tennis properly and that i caught up with the cricket that you have to do no social media. And no social life. Same old, really history then for englands cricketers as they win the world cup for the first time, in what former captain Andrew Strauss called the greatest game of cricket in history. Lets go to lords and our reporterjohn watson. Good morning to you. It was a thrilling day, john. I know, how is the heart rate now . Unbelievable, i cannot believe what unfolded here yesterday evening and to think the match was tied not once but twice, they could not be separated after 50 overs each of cricket and then we went to the super cricket and then we went to the super over cricket and then we went to the super over and the schools were still tired, england only coming through having to score more sixes and falls over the course of the match in new zealand. 26 against new zealands 17. Match in new zealand. 26 against new zealands17. Itjustifies the way that england have played, this attacking style of cricket, and in the end they got them over the line when you consider that one stage it looked like they may not when they we re looked like they may not when they were close to going out in the group stage after three defeats. Heartbreakfor stage after three defeats. Heartbreak for new zealand to go out in that way, lets not ignore the pa rt in that way, lets not ignore the part they have played in this incredible sporting spectacle. We know that it was englands aim to win the world cup, they went out very early in the group stages of the previous world cup four years ago and the main priority has been to win this tournament. Andrew strauss came in as director of cricket and he prioritised white ball cricket and we saw Trevor Bayliss take over as coach and he is a specialist in this format and eoin morgan as well who was there four yea rs morgan as well who was there four years ago when it was heartbreak then, delightful him now, and he is so then, delightful him now, and he is so pleased that this team come out on top and in a game which could have gone either way. To me and to the team and everybody who has been involved in the last four years, it means absolutely everything the planning, the hard work, the dedication, the commitment. It has been an absolutely incredible journey and i still cant quite believe that is why i am carrying it around as much as i can i still cannot believe we have gone over the line. The most incredible game of cricket with nothing between the sides. Sport sometimes is very, very fine margins and i think it was the finest of margins and it could have gone either way but i am thankful it we nt gone either way but i am thankful it went hours. And you have some information about what will happen today . Big celebrations, i hope yes, there are, you do not have to bea yes, there are, you do not have to be a sporting gig as i have been this morning, kind of watching all of those clips yesterday sat in the stands here at lords, you can celebrate with the players if you wa nt celebrate with the players if you want yourself. The oval in south london has a celebration and the players will be down there with the trophy and it is open to the public and you can get there at about 10 30 am and the players should be out and around midday so you can relive it all and watch all the clips back this morning and then celebrate with the players lead on this morning if you would like to. John, i love the fa ct you would like to. John, i love the fact that isjohn watson, we have promoted you, john, we major england captain. He will not complain about that exclusively here on breakfast. And watch the more clips and we will be back with you in a minute, john at lords this morning. We can also say good morning to ebony rainstone brent, who won the world cup in 2019. How did it compare to you from being involved in playing to watching . think it is much more nerve racking watching, to be honest. When you cannot control something, it is one thing to be out there on the pitch and have an impact but yesterday the whole nation, everybody was willing ru ns whole nation, everybody was willing runs and wickets through the whole game and it was incredible and i think what has been really nice from my perspective is to get messages from people who were not quite cricket fans but they tuned into the drama and got access to it on free to airandi drama and got access to it on free to air and i think it genuinely has inspired and huge moments like this, we think back to 66 in football and how much we talk about that now and this is a moment we will hear from four generations and it is fantastic. Do you think that yesterdays match is going to grab a new generation of people, to make them watch cricket . Because it was so them watch cricket . Because it was so ridiculously tense and exciting. Yes, if there was a game to show cricket and at first i thought i wa nted cricket and at first i thought i wanted one of those lots of sixes and fours and a booming experience on the tv but actually, gripping drama which pulls people in emotionally, i think that is the way to get people hooked and speaking to the youngsters, we have a next generation here and many watched it with theirfamilies, generation here and many watched it with their families, every Single Person got involved, they look, they found the heroes, they found moments andi found the heroes, they found moments and i think there cannot be a better way than a game thats not on the wire but passed away and keeps going so wire but passed away and keeps going so that there is no doubt this will ca ptu re so that there is no doubt this will capture the imaginations and capture the excitement and i think a lot of people are ready to expose this moment. And how can you explain, for us, for the people watching, what happened at the end . Well obviously first of all that was the tie which is where the game got too, and then in the final super over, basically if the scores were tied again they had to count back based on boundaries which team throughout the game it the most boundaries and england had hit 26 which was a significantly more than new zealand and actually you have to look back to the partnership ofjos buttler and ben stokes during the game and they had to try to really accelerate they had to try to really accelerate the score line, it was tough to score. It went down to the wire, tired, tied again, and they had to doa tired, tied again, and they had to do a count back and england were successful throughout so what a moment of drama, i think it had everyones emotions are ready. We talked a little bit about legacy. I know that the kids were playing cricket behind you now have definitely got the cricket bug, havent they . You were chatting to them, what did they say . It is fascinating speaking to them. I was talking to them that i was ten years old when i first picked up a button and these kids are between ten and 11, boys and girls, and they are having the conversation that they have championed in men and womens cricket at 50 overs at the moment and it is inspiring them and they are going home and saying they want to get involved and these guys won a local tournament as well, it may have been part of the youth games, so have been part of the youth games, so they are hooked and thats a lot of energy and excitement, and we said put up your hand if you fancy playing for england, they threw their hands up. I have done loads of coaching in schools and the impact and enthusiasm is something that happens and the great news is cricket is coming back to bbc next year and people have theirfirst taste of fruit experience, just yesterday, 2a hours ago, and i think this will see so many people, kids, families flocked to the sport because there is a lot to offer and i dont think there is a sport that brings more leadership skills, i have played a lot but what we saw from ben stokes was outstanding leadership, he has inspired so many kids to pick up a bat and ball. Wow, ebony, it is fantastic to speak to you. It is true, incredible leadership yesterday. Notjust the cricket, an astonishing day of sport because in the same hour that the englishman were winning the world cup, Novak Djokovic was winning wimbledon. He beat Roger Federer in an extraordinary final that lasted longer than any other in the tournaments history 3 minutes shy of five hours in total. Federer actually had two championship points but couldnt get over the line, leaving djokovic to win his 16th grand slam title. He does like to do that, doesnt he . The combination of the two events made it even more exciting, heart racing. His heart racing did you just notice novak eating the grass on centre court . He does that. A strange little habit. And there was more. Away from wimbledon and lords, Lewis Hamilton was making history at another Great British sporting venue. He won a record sixth british grand prix at silverstone. Stormzy there with the chequered flag. It was by far and away the best race of the season so far as hamilton won his seventh race of the season and stretch his lead at the top of the drivers championship. You would think you would get used to Something Like that but i tell you, it feels like the first time. And i am just forever grateful for everyone who has come out and spent their whole weekend here. I really hope that you enjoyed your day. To the netball world cup in liverpool next, where england thrashed samoa to finish top of their group. Tracey nevilles side are now through to the second stage of the competition which starts today, and involves two groups of six. Only the top two teams from each of those groups qualify for the semifinals, and england playjamaica who are ranked second in the world this afternoon. Who are ra ford second in the wor| a this afternoon. Who are ra ford second in the wor| a this afterno off lies down. A lot of people off work see you l a bit. So far this year, a6 people have been stabbed to death in london alone. Its a problem which the authorities are struggling to deal with. The question is how . Mayor sadiq khan is under pressure to deal with the knife crime crisis. Hes even received criticism from us president donald trump. Well today, mr khan is announcing plans to keep young people away from violence. We can speak to him now from our westminster newsroom. You so much forjoining us this morning. I know you will be announcing some summer morning. I know you will be announcing some summer projects to keep kids off the streets and away from trouble during the holidays. Im struggling to work out how much difference it can actually make, given the gravity and severity of the kind of knife crime, particularly epidemic, we have seen. You are right to raise that. We are publishing today, there was comprehensive Research Done in london and around the country about the causes of the increase in serious Youth Violence and we have used data from a host of sources including police, the nhs, the Ambulance Service and others, and it shows the increase in serious Youth Violence in london went up in 2012, inarguable and now there is a link between serious Youth Violence and poverty, deprivation, children in care, inequality, so it is important that we continue to lobby the government to reverse the cuts in Police Numbers that mike and i welcome actually both borisjohnson and jeremy hunt recognising that police cuts have gone too far. It is one half of the equation. The other half, equally important, is to stop the pipeline of young people getting involved in serious Youth Violence and that means investing in communities and issuing looking at inequality and deprivation and we know that it number of young people below 16 become victims of serious Youth Violence between three pm and six pm because after school clubs have been closed down because of government cuts and we will be investing from city hall not enough i accept but as much as we can to ensure all facilities for young people to keep busy between three pm and six pm and you are right to remind the viewers that we have also announced plans in the summer to keep young people busy, we know from previous years when the weather is hot, when the Summer Holidays are on, serious Youth Violence tends to go up. It seems to be a particular problem in london. Theres been problems in other cities but london gets a disproportionate amount of violence, particularly knife crime. Do you ta ke particularly knife crime. Do you take responsibility . You have blamed funding, but you are the mayor of london . I take responsibility for whats happening in london but youre wrong, it isnt disproportionate, other parts of the country have seen higher increases in Youth Violence and Violent Crime but thats not connected to london. Ido take but thats not connected to london. I do take responsibility. Today im saying were doing the maximum we can from city hall but weve brought together the nhs probation, the police, local councils, Community Groups and charities working together to try to grapple with this but im asking the government to support us. Yes, i welcome the government recognising cuts in Police Numbers have gone too far at work with us in relation to Public Services and Preventative Services so, for example, we know when the Police Arrest a suspect for a homicide, roughly speaking more than 70 of those have previously been the victims of knife crime. So were trying to have youth workers in a e s and trauma centres paid for by city hall to turn these young people around when theyve been victims of knife crime. Were doing these things from city hall, but its a fraction of the money come from Central Government and when you speak to counsel leaders nationwide, including london, only have lost 60 of cuts in core funding so they cant pay for youth centres and after school clubs and summer schemes. Well do what we can from city hall, and i accept responsibility and well do what we can, but we need help from Central Government and not just can, but we need help from Central Government and notjust london, but manchester, liverpool and bristol and elsewhere as well. When you sit down with the next minister, say thatis down with the next minister, say that is boris johnson, down with the next minister, say that is borisjohnson, he will look you in the i am say when i was mayor of london, knife crime came down, crime came down, i controlled it. Yes and no. Knife crime came down with a Labour Government towards the beginning of Boris Johnsons mayoralty towards 2012 but after that, his second term, serious Violent Crime went up and Violent Crime went up. The number of homicides went up. Across the country, by the way, serious by and Violent Crime went up as well around 201a. It could be argued the reduction in london during Boris Johnsons time was less than around the country. When Violent Crime goes down is when the government invested in being tough on the causes of crime as well as being tough on Violent Crime as well. You need to do both stop you need to invest in the police, under stretched and over resourced, you need to do both. You need to invest in the police, they are overstretched and under resourced. With lost money in youth services, after school clubs and Mental Health services and we seen an increase in children excluded from schools and children in care arent getting the necessary support. The Research Today shows its inarguable, if youre going to tackle serious Youth Violence and tackle serious Youth Violence and tackle and stop Violent Crime, we need tough enforcement and we need Police Working incredibly hard, but we need to deal with root causes. You talk about keeping kids busy and positive role models, weve been at a school with the inspiration of the cricket world cup winner yesterday. You were at lords yesterday. What was it like and what du hope the legacy would be . I was worried about losing my voice for the speech today. I was in the terraces with the fans and i almost lost my voice. What a leader stop in london is the sporting capital of the world. Eoin morgan, what a captain, sporting capital of the world. Eoin morgan, whata captain, and Kane Williamson as well what a leader. London is the sporting capital of the world. I had to check that we had won at the end it will inspire kids around the country. I love playing cricket and it transformed my life chances. Sport teaches you to be magnanimous, dignified in defeat, a lead of people and part of a team. What you saw yesterday was the best of sport and what was great about our team is you see their backgrounds. A captain born in ireland and a player whose family is originally from pakistan, barbados, new zealand and south africa. The very best of our country and now we are World Champions. May be some cricket at the youth clubs you are planning this summer . You had the previous female cricket captain on an sport can allow you to achieve your potential if you have the right coaches and facilities. My criticism of cricket in the past is it has been elite, and yesterday showed it doesnt need to be. It is cheap to pay for coaches. We are paying for cricket in comprehensive schools across london paid for by city hall because i know the power of sport. For me it was boxing and cricket. 0ther for me it was boxing and cricket. Other people in south london didnt have that support and sport and actually people of my age, my generation, people who i was at school with, wont as lucky as me. I remember visiting a prison as the shadowjustice secretary remember visiting a prison as the shadow justice secretary bumping into a mate i went to school with and he didnt have the chances with sport i had. We need sport and support to turn things around. Thanks very much for that us this morning, city cant, mayor of london. 0ne one thing makes the sport even better is the weather and mat, there was a lot of that over the weekend . There was. Good morning and there is good weather this morning. This was bristol a short while ago and things will change later this week. There will be some rain, gardeners will welcome that. This is the low pressure that will bring the rain, held at bay by the High Pressure at the moment. You think dry weather with High Pressure, on top of us. Cool start in central and Western Areas with clear skies. Some cloud in eastern scotland and eastern counties of england and that will ta ke counties of england and that will take a while to break up but elsewhere, where we have cloud to begin with, long and sunny spells. Hey few clouds in the Lake District and the hills in wales. For most, dry. The warmest of the weather, temperatures around 23 or 2a. In the eastern counties of england, still a northerly breeze but even that will be brighter than on the weekend lighter. Tonight, eastern areas will see the winds fall lighter still. Not as much cloud so cooler. Temperatures picking up a bit after an initialdip temperatures picking up a bit after an initial dip because we see cloud spilling into Northern Ireland and western scotland. Cant rule out a few isolated showers in the west for the rush hour but most start dry. More cloud in northern and western parts. The sunshine will be a bit hazy, if you heavy showers, scotland will see rumbles of thunder and isolated showers in Northern England and most places elsewhere will be dry and warmer than today. In southern and eastern areas, notice the boost in temperature and it will start to feel warmer on wednesday stop the area of low pressure bringing the rain picks up the south westerly winds across the country, so southern and eastern areas will be the warmest and this is where we will see the best sunshine. Wednesday, more cloud in scotla nd sunshine. Wednesday, more cloud in scotland and Northern Ireland and occasional rain, especially later in the day, if you heavy bursts and the breeze picking up and attempt will dropa breeze picking up and attempt will drop a touch and the wet weather will spread eastwards on wednesday night. Back to jon will spread eastwards on wednesday night. Back tojon and steph. Will spread eastwards on wednesday night. Back to jon and steph. Thank you very much not too bad st swithuns day, we are trying to work out what it means, if it rains today thenit out what it means, if it rains today then it will rain for a0 days. Just about got rid of it i think now, did you get pocket money as a kid . Not much victorias talking about this today. Theres a study out today which was looking into the spending habits of 75,000 children across britain. Children aged 6 18 years. Their spending power is huge when you look at the figures. They earned about £a. 5 billion last year from pocket money they earnt for doing chores, but also gifts. Gifts from grandparents and the like. You might think its all disappearing into video games and trainers, but a surprising amount is actually being saved. Kids could teach us a thing or two about stretching the pennies, theyre three times morw likely to save than adults. Just like sisters ellie and pippi from surrey. I get around £5 a week, and my mum can take off weather ive done my chores, and if i have, then i get a little bit more money. chores, and if i have, then i get a little bit more money. I get around £aa little bit more money. I get around £a a week, and if i do my chores thenl £a a week, and if i do my chores then i get more money. £a a week, and if i do my chores then i get more money. I quite like books. I like to spend it mainly on a new book. I like toys. Because shes obviously younger. a new book. I like toys. Because shes obviously younger. If i like something i see, then ill probably get it. Sometimes if we know we are going on a big holiday, we all save up going on a big holiday, we all save upa bit going on a big holiday, we all save up a bit more. Im really happy to save because i feel like one day you may need that money and you never know when you may need it. So youve got to make sure you use it wisely. Wise words and a nice garden louise hill, chief operating office at gohenry, the company that commissioned the research. Thanks very much fork coming in. Listening to that, it sounds like quite a lot, £5 and £a each and more for other chores, but thats not their weekly average. It was £9 per week per child. Not everyone can afford that and it differs when you look at the household. What is the best way to teach children the value of money . It doesnt matter how much money you give your children, even if its a tiny amount, thank they haveit if its a tiny amount, thank they have it as their own and they can make decisions on it, that can make them learn. 50p per week, doesnt make a difference. This is a Massive Survey and staggering to think british children between them have £a. 5 billion in spending power, and that wont have gone unnoticed from retailers and the like. Whats the best way to help your own children at home watching this manage their money when they have it . For me, a great way to do it is to help teach them the value of money by earning it themselves. For example, you can set them tasks around the house to earn money and if they do the tasks, they get the money and if they dont, they dont. Thats a great way for them to take decisions themselves and learn that you do have to actually work to get some money. Its all about responsibility and teaching financial responsibility. Previous generations have not been great at this, and as adults we are not fantastic at saving, and we do get ourselves into problems and holes. Credit cards and store cards and the like. Is their way to stop this happening again and history repeating itself . Is there a way. Pocket mining is a fantastic way to do this pocket. Customers at the lower end of the scale have told us that, they want to make sure children dont get into credit card problems like they did pocket money pitch. And at the other end of the scale, wealthy customers say theyve struggled to teach their children the value of money because everything comes so easy to them pocket. These all help kids to learn. An amazing study, thanks for taking the time to conduct it, the spending habits of kids. Iam i am staggered by that, for 5p raiding kids piggy banks not such a crime £a. 5 billion. Here is a story with a happy ending. A manta ray, which approached a group of divers for help after getting hooks caught in her eye, is now on the road to recovery. Have a look. Affectionately named after the patterns on its belly, freckles stopped near the group, off the coast of western australia, clearly in distress. She waited patiently while they removed the fishing hooks. The divers who helped say theyve since checked up on her, and shes thankfully doing well. But they are supposed to be really clever . Yes, they are really clever. You can look at them and think they are quite scary that they are super friendly. You have swum with them . Yes, a fuse. It sounds strange, i swa m yes, a fuse. It sounds strange, i swam with a view manta rays they are swam with a view manta rays they a re really clever. Swam with a view manta rays they are really clever. What i watched them do, they get cleaned by other fish. They have this. Is like a car wash forfish. I fish. They have this. Is like a car wash for fish. I watched them swim over a rock, the little fish came up and cleaned them, they swam off in the next one came in. Like sponges and chamois leathers dad exotic whats going on there . Laughter lets talk more about the cricket. A thrilling world cup winfor cup win for england. Celebrations across the country and from the players as well. This is the scene inside the dressing room at lords. Plenty of baby action all of them brought onto the pitch afterwards. Plenty of beer and champagne as they celebrated an historic achievement. You would just be celebrating after that yes, they can hardly believe it. What a struggle, what an epic. And lots of the players still out on the pitch at this point because they spend ages out with their families, chatting, having photos taken. You know what . I think the players were as shocked as we were. Watching that, there were moments when everybody thought, whats happening . Hang on what is a super over . I think lots of players felt a bit shell shocked. You saw them in their post match interviews, they didnt really know what to say but enjoying this moment inside the dressing room. I dont think looking at those pictures it is shell shocked they will feel this morning, hung over i wonder how Michael Vaughan is feeling, lets have a look. Hello. You dont look shell shocked at all you dont look shell shocked at all you look far too slick. You have had a proper night plasma sleep or have you . Good morning i havent, i ended up in a bar locally with greg james andjimmy ended up in a bar locally with greg james and jimmy anderson. A remarkable day. I thought i had seen everything in cricket. To see a super everything in cricket. To see a super over everything in cricket. To see a super over in a 50 over game and see england win a world cup and the amount of boundaries i got. To see ben stokes dive in and get that extra four. To see lords singing who let the dogs out . I never thought i would say that 30,000 people singing and chanting, remarkable day for english cricket. What was the last hour like when you are watching . I went on commentary at 6 10pm to do the last few overs andi at 6 10pm to do the last few overs and i didnt come off until 8 30pm. My and i didnt come off until 8 30pm. My voice is a little bit coarse because of that and because of a bit of singing afterwards that i have never experienced anything like that in broadcast to stop just to see the game, to see both teams. You did see neither team really knew what was going on, we didnt really have a clue what was going on in the commentary box. We were reading scripts. Then a super over came out and we know that from t20 cricket but to see the ground and the atmosphere, to see two groups of players play really smart cricket throughout the day. England generally dont play that well on these kinds of wickets, the slow wicket, difficult for batting, but they played with their brains. Ben stokes in particular, he has had a remarkable story from where he was 18 months ago to the way he has played in this world cup. To think two or three years ago he was bowling that last over in the t20 and went for four sixes and england lost that day. He was there at the end winning the world cup for england, remarkable story. So many people getting in touch with us this morning saying, i never knew cricket was that brilliant, that exciting. How do you capitalise on that for the game . It is not always that exciting, is it . Give over, its a lwa ys exciting, is it . Give over, its always like that laughter know its not just turn it on an everyday is dramatic, it goes down to the wire, down to the last ball. What a day for cricket to have been on free to air. To think cricket hasnt been on free to air since 2005 and yesterday it was, every Single Person in the country could see the england side winning the world cup. It wasntjust about england winning the world cup, it was about the game, two sets of players going for it. It was the atmosphere coming through the screens, on the radio. A wonderful advert for the game. Im pretty sure over the course of the next ten, 15 yea rs, over the course of the next ten, 15 years, i dont think the players will realise what they have done until later on in their life when people come up to them and say, i got into cricket because of you guys. I got into cricket because of that sunday afternoon, i turned on the tv or radio and listen to you quys the tv or radio and listen to you guys winning the world cup for england. They will arrive here in a short while to have a photo. Im sure they will be dusty and over the next few weeks or so they wont really realise what they have achieved, in terms of inspiring a new generation of cricket fans. Of course, the ashes are coming up. How will this help with that . Yes this is just the start, five test matches against australia, again here against australia, again here against ireland a week on thursday. It should inspire them. I think you are looking at characters in the england side like jofra are looking at characters in the england side likejofra archer, who bowled the super over. He has had a super world cup. Jason roy, pretty sure he will be in the ashes team as well. Chris woakes, he has been mr dependable, the postman, always delivering. Joe root, jonny ba i rstow, jos delivering. Joe root, jonny bairstow, jos buttler, moeen ali, ben stokes, the majority of the team we saw yesterday, im sure they will be playing in the ashes series starting august the 1st at edgbaston. It will be a great event. We have won ashes series in the course of the last 15 years, 2005, 2009, 2013, 2015. The england side needed to win yesterday and left the first mens 50 over world cup to inspire the next generation and im pretty sure over the course of the next few weeks with the ashes, the figures will go through the roof. I would hope that everyone would want to watch these guys play cricket once again. Michael, lovely to speak to you. Thank you very much indeed for answering that early alarm call this morning 0ver this morning over time from last night, over time this morning hes fine thank you. We will keep reflecting and celebrating for england on that. Brilliant. And great weather as well for all of us. That is a gorgeous picture, where is that . The western isles.
