The social media giant facebook is facing a record 5 billion fine in a settlement with us regulators over breaches of its users privacy and data security. The personal information of millions of facebook users was gathered and passed on to another company, Cambridge Analytica, which then targeted users with political messages. The network and the data it holds on those users is now one of the worlds most valuable commodities. But it failed to protect that information.
