Across the central swathe of scotland, up into the low 20s further south. We do pull in a little bit of a warm weather front, though, to the far north of the high through wednesday, so some thicker cloud and some more persistent rain for the highlands. That front pushes away through wednesday evening overnight into thursday, but then we start to see this cold weather front coming into play for thursday. Some more meaningful rain for scotland, and particularly for some of the Higher Ground in the north west. We could get the best part of an inch of rain. A breezy story, as well, across the northern half of the uk. More cloud putting south as well but across southern england, up to 26 degrees possible where the High Pressure centre is closer by. Thursday into friday, this cold weather front starts to work its way south. Not much in the way of rainfall in association with it as it does so, perhaps a few scattered showers, but what it will do is move us showers, but what it will do is move us into fresh air for the end of the week, particularly across the northern half of the uk. To the south at the moment, it looks like the front wont get in until later in the day, so we could still see temperatures of 25, 26. But across scotland, perhaps the mid teams at best for aberdeen, with some showers. You can just best for aberdeen, with some showers. You canjust about best for aberdeen, with some showers. You can just about make out this line of cloud here indicating the position of the front through friday afternoon. On into the weekend, the front sinks away to the south and we plum into a northerly airstream. South and we plum into a northerly air stream. That will feel pressure, especially in contrast to last weekend. But the higher still keen to stay pretty well established, so there will be a lot of hot fine weather. There goes out front, and as you can see, our isobars tap into as you can see, our isobars tap into a northerly airstream. So for saturday and sunday it will feel cooler, but there still should be some pleasant sunshine around, and in that sunshine, actually, it shouldnt feel too bad. But for some areas around the north sea coast, for example, with more cloud on the northerly breeze, aberdeen down to i7 northerly breeze, aberdeen down to 17 to just 12 northerly breeze, aberdeen down to i7 tojust 12 on northerly breeze, aberdeen down to 17 to just 12 on saturday. Last weekend, hottest day of the year so far at london heathrow, 3a degrees. Just 22 with a northerly breeze for this saturday. So we are quite clear about this far enough forecast. It is into next week, and things are struggling somewhat for us to pin down. Mostly because we got quite a wea k jetstrea m, down. Mostly because we got quite a weak jetstream, and that down. Mostly because we got quite a weakjetstream, and that makes us struggle to position highs and lows on our chart. Clearly later on in the period the jet starts to re establish, and our forecast the period the jet starts to re establish, and ourforecast for the following week should be much more clear cut. But for next week it looks like we will see higher pressure to the south, low pressure to the north, but exact positions are going to be difficult to pin down. High pressure to the south could bring us some warmer weather, it should keep things reasonably dry. But to the north it is likely to be cooler, with the chance of some showers. Hello. This is bbc news with lukwesa burak. Well be taking a look at tomorrow mornings papers in a moment. First the headlines. Englands lionesses are out of the world cup. Theyve been beaten 2 i by the defending champions, the usa, in lyon tonight. England had a goal ruled out for offside through var, and missed a penalty eight minutes from the end. My players give me everything. You know, we said before the game we wanted to leave our hearts and soul on that pitch and they did. Turning their backs on europe, the new Brexit Party Meps stage a protest in brussels as eus leaders reach a deal on who should hold the most prominent positions for the next five years. Police try to identify the body of a man, thought to be a stowaway, who fell from this plane into a london garden. And andy murray announces hell play wimbledon mixed doubles with 7 time champion serena williams. Hello and welcome to our look ahead to what the the papers will be bringing us tomorrow. With me is the brexit editor at the telegraph, asa bennett, and head of news at the huffington post, jess brammar. Lovely to see you both. Many of tomorrows front pages are already in. The end of englands world cup dream is pictured on the front of the telegraph, after the lionesses 2 1 defeat to the usa in the semifinal. The paper also leads on the bbcs salary bill for presenters which has risen to £11 million, while at the same time the corporation has cut free tv licenses for over 75s who arent receiving pension credit. More of the same in the daily mail. It leads with the bbc being accused of kicking pensioners in the teeth after its salary bill soars to £1. 5 billion. The ft says the use of palm oilfor bio diesel cars and trucks across the eu has soared to 65 of Global Consumption despite the fact Palm Oil Cultivation is a major driver for de forestation. Borisjohnson is on the front of the metro as he vows that, if he is next pm, no new taxes will be introduced on products such as sugary foods, alcohol and tobacco unless he is shown they improve health. Tv license fury as bbc pay bill soars is the lead for the daily express. It also highlights the lionesses heartache at being knocked out of the world cup. Obesity tops smoking as the main cause of cancer according to the times. While the i reports that Climate Change is raising the risk of european heatwaves, as the hottest everjune sets new temperature records across france. Those are the front pages. Lets start with the world cup. You both watched it. Both straight from home after watching it. The pub. Watched it. Both straight from home after watching it. The publj watched it in the pub but i did not have a drink. Americans in the pub . There were Many Americans in the pub. What was the atmosphere . For me it was a lovely dinner at home. As i was spitting my meal out in disgust of the var decision. They fought so fa ntastically of the var decision. They fought so fantastically through this. Such a tragic way to go out, scuffing a penalty and the var decision going the wrong way. In terms of being disallowed. The toe was offside. Ever so slightly. Offside is offside. It was generally exciting. I have never watched Women Football and loads of blokes watching and i think this is really captured the nation in a way that Women Football hasnt in the uk before. Oh, yes. I was talking to a lady viewer and she was talking to a lady viewer and she was saying the thing i like about this tournament is there is less drama on the field, the women are just getting on with it. We had drama tonight. A red card and the var. It was a great game to watch it justis var. It was a great game to watch it just is a shame it ended the way it did for us. Bbc pay. This story started last night but running all through today and the front page of the mail, a kick in the teeth for the over 75 s. The mail, a kick in the teeth for the over 75 s. They are pointing out that while the bbc is unable to protect tv licenses over 75 s it is paying its staff all sorts of money and some of them, alan shera, gary niqab paid handsomely indeed. Why are the staff on premium wages clearly it is to keep them competitive but in a sense it seems like there is no risk of them being punched, setting its own prices. Crucially, what really would stick in the teeth for its readers and those of the telegraph, while paying the stars more, and, yes they have spun it all because they are saying we have more women being paid better sums, they are still not being able to afford the tv licenses for the over 75 s and the optics are very unpalatable. Two things i would say andl unpalatable. Two things i would say and i am going to find myself slightly defending the bbc. I think it is important to remember that the cost of the over 75 s licence fees we re cost of the over 75 s licence fees were given over by George Osborne when he was chancellor as was the decision on whether or not to remove them and therefore, when it happened, luckily for the government, it was the bbc that had to make that unpopular announcement. Yes, of course, there is its been involved in that, but there was huge outcry about the pay imbalance and yet they have had to pay some women are more and we are seeing women into the top ten highest paid and it means there will be some very well paid people in the bbc. It is interesting that gary lineker is still at the top, a massive salary. He is one of the few that did have a pay rise. Many at the bbc took pay cuts, many of the men. But interestingly, when you look at the numbers, and this is something that perhaps is not reported, the numbers do not quite add up. So David Clementi said the sums do not add up. When you start to break down the numbers, it is not quite as easy. Yet, in the same way, when you put it side by side it does not look good for the bbc. For cooperation this size, it is never very simple but when you pull out the numbers, for example, the general salaries for example, the general salaries for managers 83 billion more than previous year. The armchair a ccou nta nts previous year. The armchair accountants watching could say you can mitigate the blow, the d day vetera ns, can mitigate the blow, the d day veterans, many other people, forcing them to pay tv licenses because there is no easy defence. If the best defence is it was lumped on by the government. Is it fair that the government. Is it fair that the bbc picks it up. The argument is overin the bbc picks it up. The argument is over in terms of that. I do not think it is a defence for the bbc of their high pay. There is an argument around whether they need to defend their high pay. Whether it is necessarily a terrible thing is a position to take. It is difficult. Obviously, compared to ordinary peoples salaries these look huge i personally think it is true to say that big stars would go to work elsewhere. Corporate salaries that i do not make that list at all that but corporate salaries are much more competitive. There are people who did go during that period. A final point on this, it makes you wonder whether the public would be happy to lose bbc two, four, bbc scotland, radio 5, quite a few radio stations and that would be the consequence of picking up the over 75 s licence fees. If the bbc puts it like that, coming off radio six for example. Lets go back to the guardian. Philip hammond has been touted as one of the most powerful man in british politics. For the next five weeks and that he may turn into sheikh che. When you look at the leadership contest, jeremy hunt joining borisjohnson to show how unafraid he is of a no deal brexit. Less tha n unafraid he is of a no deal brexit. Less than half are not very keen of an idealfrom less than half are not very keen of an ideal from the tory side. Less than half are not very keen of an idealfrom the tory side. Philip hammond feels it is not sensible. Rory stewart among those names. You can imagine, with that, they could be as awkward as i have been to theresa may but there is something they are not willing to cross. They do not want to bring down a no deal Prime Minister government because they are at their heart tories. They have threatened all souls in the past and maybe they are all talk and not able to prove it. Threatened all sorts. It is clearly. Ithink in an ordinary circumstance, i think it would be a significant blue on blue attack. We are getting one of those every couple of days in the current circumstances. If i was Philip Hammond i would probably do the same thing. He has nothing to lose and he will not be in the next government so why not do it. Another one of these policies, syntax. What do you mean by that . This is a good tabloid word for the taxes that are used to persuade people not to sin. Borisjohnson used to persuade people not to sin. Boris johnson suggesting that used to persuade people not to sin. Borisjohnson suggesting that not saying he will get rid of them but suggesting he will test the effectiveness before deciding whether or not to keep them. It will obviously be very popular with ple nty of obviously be very popular with plenty of people in his party. Other thinking it is a way of the government controlling the things we eat. The mastermind of the sugar tax would say it has been a success, and George Osborne is the execute of Jamie Olivers demands. They would argue it has been a success executor. It is developing into something more severe, coming after our milkshakes. It is worth remembering with him there has been a moment when he was quite nanny stateish himself. One of the first actions he took was ban alcohol on the tube, to appeal to shall we say a more socially conservative instinct in the party. And it seemed to just be ignored instinct in the party. And it seemed tojust be ignored by instinct in the party. And it seemed to just be ignored by people, instinct in the party. And it seemed tojust be ignored by people, as instinct in the party. And it seemed to just be ignored by people, as we saw diana. I wasjust about to say, a politician fell foul of that. He doesnt want to worry about the rules, ina he doesnt want to worry about the rules, in a sense. He once said in the telegraph that he was pro. He was happy to wear a bicycle helmet, but happy to be judged for not wearing one, on his own head be it. On that front page, there is a picture from the European Parliament, and this is the brexit party. But what we are going to do, we are going to turn to a larger picture on the front of the independent. What did you make of that . I have to say, it is a striking image, but the video of this is actually even more striking, because they are actually turning their backs on the ode tojoy, which of course is the eu anthem. It is quite a statement. I think for a lot of people, a lot of people roll their eyes. It looks quite childish to me. But they were always going to pull a stunt, right . To me. But they were always going to pulla stunt, right . It is to me. But they were always going to pull a stunt, right . It is their first day there, in the very heart of the beast that they dislike so much. I am of the beast that they dislike so much. Lam not of the beast that they dislike so much. I am not really surprised to see that they did this. |j much. I am not really surprised to see that they did this. I think the brexit party will say the reaction has proved them right. They were rebuked for saying you do not turn your back on a countrys national anthem, saying hang on, the eu is not a country. And the European Parliament does seem to be a place for general showboating anyway, for insurgents to get noticed. In the same way today we had the liberal democrats wearing shirts with the slogan with something about brexit, there was a b word, and alliterative. They could be accused of being just as childish. Welcome to the European Parliament. And it has made people understand and be more aware of what is going on. That is the sort of politics a lot of people dont follow. But good news for women in the top jobs. Yet to be approved, but do you want to just summarise it for us . Good news for two women. Eu leaders last night after a very tortuous process that went on for hours and hours finally decided to nominate people for brusselss two biggestjobs, and they are both women, a german as head of the European Commission and christine lagard, who is currently at the imf, they want her to run up the European Central bank. On the front of the daily telegraph, do you have a dog . Lagarde. Front of the daily telegraph, do you have a dog . Lagardelj front of the daily telegraph, do you have a dog . Lagarde. Iwill not be feeding him some fad grain stuff, and now we discover it is not so healthy. Surely you just go for the balanced dog food which is made to give them everything they need, rather than taking this organic flimflam, basically. Organic flimflam. He said it, not us. It has been lovely speaking tonight. Thank you for watching. Thats it for the paper tonight. Dont forget you can see the front pages of the papers online on the bbc news website. Its all there for you seven days a week at bbc. Co. Uk papers, and if you miss the programme any evening you can watch it later on bbc iplayer. Thanks to asa and jess. Good evening, im gavin ramjaun. This is your latest sports news. Englands dream of reaching the womens World Cup Final is over. They were beaten 2 i by the holders and favourites, the usa, in a match full of drama. Christen press gave the us an early lead. But england struck back, thanks to ellen white with a smart finish. The us regained the advantage, their co captain alex morgan with the header to put them 2 1 up at half time. Cue the drama in the second half. Ellen white had a goal ruled out for offside on the review by the video assistant referee. Var was used again, to award england a penalty when white was clipped in the area. England captain Steph Houghton stepped up, but her penalty was saved by alyssa naeher, with just six minutes of the game to go. The wait for a first womens World Cup Final for england goes on, but the usa have the chance to claim an historic fourth tournament victory in the final on sunday, when they face sweden or the netherlands. Its obviously hard to put into words now, i think. Weve played one of the best teams in the world, weve took them all the way here, and im so proud of the girls. Just disappointed with the goals that we conceded, because i think other than that we had a good game. There was a lwa ys that we had a good game. There was always a plan that you would take it tonight if england were awarded a penalty . Yes, obviously i got two out of two in the set pieces today, andi out of two in the set pieces today, and i have been practising them a lot. I just didnt and i have been practising them a lot. Ijust didnt get and i have been practising them a lot. I just didnt get a and i have been practising them a lot. Ijust didnt get a good connection that ive done the whole of this tournament. So obviously gutted, to have let the team down, but weve got to go and try and get a bronze medal now. The players give me everything. We said before the game, we wanted to leave our hearts and souls on the pitch, weve gone toted her with the best team in the world. They showed great experience in the end, with taking the ball into the corner. We went down to ten men. Weve just probably run out of steam. But i asked them to play foot ball steam. But i asked them to play football the way that we wanted them to play. So we come to this tournament, weve done our very best, weve not let any thing in the dressing room, and there should be no tears tonight. We should be proud. We touched the hearts of the nation back home and they left their hearts on the football field. So im happy. Well, konta led the british charge into the next round of wimbledon today. She was one of five who won their matches. British number one konta beat romanias ana bogdan in straight sets. 75, 62. Konta plays world number 38 Katerina Siniakova next. There was also british success for harriet dart in the womens draw and dan evans, Cameron Norrie and jay clarke in the mens. Eight time champion Roger Federer was given a scare on the way through to the second round. The South African debutant lloyd harris took the first set on centre court, but the swiss came back to win comfortably in the end. And he goes on to face britains jay clarke next. Rafa nadal is also safely in to round two. Serena williams came through her first round tie with italys Giulia Gatto Monticone in straight sets. The 37 year old is aiming to win her 24th grand slam title. That would see her equal margaret courts all time record. Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that williams will play mixed doubles with andy murray in these championships. Murray, a two time singles champion at swi9, will compete in both the mens and mixed doubles, less than a month after returning following hip surgery. The pair are expected to play their first match together on thursday. If you guys really want it, then maybe ill do it. It seems like you quys maybe ill do it. It seems like you guys really want it. Yes . All right, done. Just for you guys, dont forget. So that is a yes . You are going to do it . If you guys want it . I really do. Just for you then. Thats all the sport for now. Goodnight. And before you head off to bed, a quick look at the weather for the next few days. First, i look back to last month, two june, next few days. First, i look back to last month, twojune, because the met office have now released provisional rainfall statistics for june. I probably dont need to tell you, or you dont need me to tell you, or you dont need me to tell you, that it was wet at times. The areas on this chart where you see the deepest blue colours, those areas had around double the rainfall they would normally expect in the whole month. But as we look ahead through the rest of this week, deeper intojuly, through the rest of this week, deeper into july, it through the rest of this week, deeper intojuly, it stays dry for many of us. Just a little bit of rain across the north of the uk, just turning a little chilly out there right now, as we start off tomorrow morning, some rural spots in wales and scotland could be down around two or three degrees. More widely in the towns and cities between seven and ia. But for many of us tomorrow is a fine day, with some sunshine certainly across central and western parts of england and wales. There should be more sunshine than we had today, more cloud across eastern england, certainly more cards spinning into Northern Ireland and scotland. Some patchy rain in the far north where it will also be quite windy. Wind is picking up close to English Channel coast and across the channel islands. Damages tomorrow afternoon ranging from 17 degrees in aberdeen to 22 degrees in cardiff and in london. So another fine day on the cards at wimbledon. There will be a fairamount of cards at wimbledon. There will be a fair amount of cloud around, but that cloud should break up to bring some spells of sunshine, those temperatures topping out at around 22 degrees in a gentle north easterly breeze. As we go through wednesday evening, we will continue to see some outbreaks of rain flirting with the western and the northern isles. Generally more cloud for scotland, for Northern Ireland, further south some clear spells and it wont be such a chilly night, those temperatures only getting down to around nine to 12 degrees. We go on into thursday and split fortunes. More cloud into scotland, Northern Ireland, the far north of england, and some rain making progress across the far north of scotland. Pretty wet across the western highlands. The further south you come across thing that in wales, there will be some sunshine and some real warmth to be had as well. Temperatures across the south east corner of the 25 or maybe 26 degrees. Now, friday is going to be another very warm day in the south, but there will be changes further north. This frontal system pushing its way through, bringing some outbreaks of rain. But it is a cold front behind it. We open the doors to some cool air which will be working in from the north. Eventually as we head into the weekend, temperatures for all of us willdip weekend, temperatures for all of us will dip away. But after what was such a wetjune, for the time being, for the start ofjuly, it does they predominantly dry. Thats all from me. Good night. Welcome to newsday on the bbc. Im rico hizon, in singapore.
