Hello and welcome. Theres anticipation building as President Trump and chinas xijinping are meeting at the 620 summit injapan. The two countries are of course currently locked in a bitter trade war which is threatening to escalate. All eyes are on whether this meeting can break the deadlock or at least offer Global Markets some relief. Ourjapan correspondent, Rupert Wingfield hayes is at the summit in osaka. Are we expecting any sort of resolution to come out of this meeting . I dont think we will see a complete resolution to the trade dispute, this is too short a meeting with too many issues at stake for a short face to face between the two leaders to make that sort of breakthrough. However the mood music going into this meeting is positive, we saw the two lea d e rs this meeting is positive, we saw the two leaders shake hands quarterly, President Trump as he met with President Trump as he met with president xi said that he had a close relationship, that had slipped recently but was getting closer again now. Certainly a suggestion that he wants things to go well, president xijinping, we could not hear quite clearly but it sounded like he was talking about ping pong diplomacy, referring to the way china and america opened their relationship in the 70s. Both leaders wanting this to go well. I think what we might see as concessions by both sides that will allow them to call a truce in their trade war and then get the detailed negotiations back under way, but this meeting is going on as we speak and we will have to wait until they come out, hold a press conference later this afternoon to see exactly what has happened. We will keep an eye on that meeting as it continues. Separately, donald trump is going to head to south korea after this, and he has basically released a very interesting tweet in the form of an invitation to kim jong un . Thats right. We have all been taken little by surprise this morning here ina little by surprise this morning here in a sucker by President Trump tweeting osaka, there was no expectation that during this trip to asia, there was no expectation that President Trump would meet with the north Korean Leader, as morning President Trump woke up and tweeted that he was going to south korea, was interested in going to the demilitarised zone that divides north korea from south korea, and if chairman kim jong un would like to, he is prepared to meet him there during his trip. We will be there and ijust put out a feeler, because i dont know where he is right now, he may not be in north korea, but i said that if chairman kim wants to meet i will be at the border, it certainly we seem to get along very well, i can tell you, that is a good thing, not a bad thing. For the stupid people that say oh, he gets along, it is good to get along. Just to clarify, President Trump later said that he was just putting out a feeler, that if he met it was for a couple of minutes, we dont know if this was just an off the cuff tweet or if there are genuine discussions going on behind the scenes for this meeting to take place. For more on the 620, take a look at our website there youll find all the latest updates from the summit as well as helpful explainers on who is attending the summit and what they are due to speak about.
