Night. Youre watching bbc news. More on oui youre watching bbc news. More on our top story and rory stewart has become the latest conservative mp to become the latest conservative mp to be eliminated from the race for the Party Leadership after failing to get enough support in the latest round of voting. Borisjohnson was the clear winner with nearly 90 votes more than his nearest rival. The results came through in the last hour. Lets have a listen back. The total number of votes given to each candidate in alphabetical order were as follows. Michael gove, 51. Jeremy hunt, 5a. Sajid javid, 38. Boris johnson, 143. Rory hunt, 54. Sajid javid, 38. Boris johnson, 143. Rory stewart, 27. The following candidates are eligible to continue onto the next ballot on thursday the 20th ofjune at ten i am. Michael gove, jeremy hunt, sajid javid and Boris Johnson. Apologies for the slight sound issues there. A short while ago rory stewart gave his reaction to being eliminated. Disappointed because i think our country is in a moment of great crisis, disappointed because the long term future of our party and oui long term future of our party and our country must be empty Centre Ground of politics. Disappointed because really the fact that lib dems voters were labour voters wa nted dems voters were labour voters wanted to vote for me should be something to be proud of and something to be proud of and something we embrace as a party and disappointed also that in the end perhaps some of the things i was saying that a no deal brexit would be catastrophic or that you cant negotiate a no deal with europe probably proved something they cant hear but i still have to keep saying it. Rory stewartjust after he hear but i still have to keep saying it. Rory stewart just after he found out that he was eliminated in round three of the leadership race and he was speaking they are to our correspondent vicki young and we can join her in central lobby and the houses of parliament. Disappointment there. Almost sorrowful as well, it sounded like in his responses to you. He was suggesting that a path for the conservative party to try and occupy the Centre Ground of british politics has been squandered perhaps. The problem he has got is that appealing to people beyond the tory party is one thing and i am sure most people in the party think thatis sure most people in the party think that is a good thing but that is not how this contest works. This works by getting the support of your fellow m ps by getting the support of your fellow mps first and then the grass roots members of the conservative party, so it is a very different constituency. That is the problem i think he ran up against. Supporters are people like borisjohnson would say he is a so called one nation conservative as well and can unify and bring together, he is socially liberal and his views are brexiter different but they feel he can do that. He clearly knows his fellow mps were not ready to hear that message. There was good news for sajid javid and his team. I have stayed in the race and they are pretty optimistic because they think a lot of Rory Stewarts backers could go to him in the round tomorrow and this is what one of them had to say to me earlier. As i always say, each day, each round you start from scratch. A candidate has been knocked out. Rory has fought a good campaign. Saj has gone through. We all start from zero and there will be conversations going on overnight and people will be thanking those who have supported broadway, where do they go, people are now starting to customise over the horizon to think about those final to and not just the horizon to think about those final to and notjust before the party and the country and the country as a whole, the media interest will be very intense and i think there is a golden opportunity for the party to show a deep strand of thinking, of outlooks and values and policies and ideas for our country and the relevance of conservativism and the 21st century andl conservativism and the 21st century and i think saj is the right person to take that on and take the fight to take that on and take the fight to borisjohnson in that to take that on and take the fight to Boris Johnson in that final round as the agent of change he talks about not because he read a book on the Dusty Library somewhere, but his whole life story is about what can positive thinking, what can opportunity and policy deliver for those life changing and life enhancing opportunities we want to see for all of our fellow citizens. I think saj is the candidate to take that forward and if colleagues are thinking about that and how to make the tory party interesting in this next round, boris and saj is an interesting contest. Is that because he is different, you want him there because he is not the old italian, that he can be that contrast but is that he can be that contrast but is that enough . He has to make the case with his vision and to think he has really done that . A the back story in itself is a freestanding piece of history and is pretty meaningless. Unless it has saved you and you wanted to then shape others. Saj and iare of wanted to then shape others. Saj and i are of exactly the same generation where we experienced first hand the transforming effects of an opportunity britain, business friendly, business focused, cracking glass ceilings and smashing our stores to say there are opportunities available for all to unleash it and to uncork the idea and lots of peoples mind is that there is aspiration and hope and change out there for them but the conservative party is incredibly well placed to deliver it. With a candidate who speaks not from a theoretical point of view but this was my experience and this is where i started, i want other people to have that journey as well, come with me and support sajid and lets get oii me and support sajid and lets get on and deliberate. Boris johnson out in front with 143 endorsements from his fellow mps and the scrap for second place, the scrap to get on that ballot paper before conservative members vote is well and truly under way. Thank you, vicki young from westminster. Lets just remind you about the result in the last hour from the latest round of voting in the conservative leadership contest. Boris johnson once again won the lions share of the boat with 143, followed by jeremy hunt on 54 and michael gove on 51 votes, sajid javid remains in the running with 38. Rory stewart as we have been hearing came last with 27. But of course means rory stewart is eliminated from the contest leaving those other four candidates to battle it out in another round of voting tomorrow. Now lets move on to some of the news.
