Undercover footage on the bbcs Panorama Programme showed detainees at brook house, near Gatwick Airport, being verbally and physically abused. The judge has been very clear that this enquiry into the allegations of abuse at brook house near Gatwick Airport must have powers to compel witnesses to attend the hearing. Some of the hearings must be held in public and also the two former detainees, who alleged they were abused and have brought this legal case, they must be properly funded and represented. She said these were repeated incidents of abuse that were openly conducted in full view of other staff and detainees. She said there was a real risk, amounting to an overwhelming probability that former gas staff will not attend the hearing. That is why she believed this enquiry needs the powers to compel witnesses to attend. She went on to say that immigration detainees were uniquely vulnerable and the abused detainees must have the opportunity to see and confront their abusers on equal terms. A very strong ruling from the judge about this enquiry which has been set up by the home office and will be led by the provisions and probation ombudsman. Prisons and probation. The home office has said it will consider the ruling. There is still a possibility they may appeal against it. Some people who are campaigning for this inquiry to be held in public with full powers said the only type of inquiry that could be held which had those powers is a full Public Inquiry. Thejudge has not gone that far but it may be that, in the months to come, the home office decides that is the only type of inquiry to satisfy the terms of the ruling or they could take it to another stage and try to satisfy the terms. The judge believes these are very serious allegations and must be properly investigated with detainees on an equal footing to those on the other side from the home office and gas which ransacked facility at Gatwick Airport. Swiss women say the country is progressing too slowly when it comes to issues like closing the gender pay gap. On average, women still earn 20 less than men. Half a million women took part. Today, swiss women are saying, ok, time for one last push. We still dont have real equal pay at work. We earn 20 less and our main counterparts. Swiss women find it hard to juggle work and family. They find it hard to find childcare. So what all these women gathered here today are hoping, is that with this new strike, where there could be even more than half a million, they will be able to encourage politicians and employers to take those last few steps so that what women here view as true equality, where men and women work side by side, completely equally, can finally be achieved. Shops offering tattoos and piercings pose an infection risk, and laws on who can work in them should be tightened, according to a leading Public Health charity. I think it would be useful for anyone in the uk to know that, wherever theyre going, they can be assured that the person who is giving them a special procedure such as a tattoo is suitably qualified in infection control, and so that it really does minimise the risk of side effects. The number of shops offering tattoos and piercings has rocketed in recent years, up by more than 170 injust a decade. One in five of us now has a tattoo. But, in a survey of more than 800 people who were tattooed, pierced, or underwent acupuncture or electrolysis in the last couple of years, 18 experienced negative side effects. Wales is the only part of the uk where a compulsory licensing scheme for tattoo parlours and others offering Similar Services is being introduced. Two months of rain has fallen in just two days. One farmer recorded 12a millimetres of rain between monday and wednesday. These unprecedented levels have caused dramatic effects for the people of winter wheat in lincolnshire. A state of emergency was declared. 100 homes evacuated, even more without power. We have seen homes waste deep in water. People kayaking to try to get to a dry place. The water levels are continuing to rise. Quite a big operation under way . It is. Quite dramatic last night. A military operation began and it saw a tunic helicopter drop large one tonne bags into the river. The raf say they will drop 100 of these huge bags to try and stop the flow of water. Thousands of gallons of water that is flowing into rain fleet and onto nearby farmland. The scene is best viewed by pictures. You can see the sheer extent of the flooding. 150 acres of farmland is under water. You can only imagine the crops beneath are absolutely devastated. That operation is still going on now. We have been speaking to assista nt going on now. We have been speaking to assistant chief constable of Lincolnshire Police shone west who has been telling us about the operation. Sean. He said another main player in this rescue operation is the villagers themselves. We have done quite a lot for the community. First and foremost, what a fantastic community they are. So strong, so community they are. So strong, so Community Spirited, some really heartfelt donations by all of that community. They have absolutely rallied around and a testament to their Community Spirit today. On top of all of that, we have 50 fire and rescue officers who are supporting that local rescue. It is probably too early to assess, but how much damage has been caused . We dont know the financial damage, but we have people waste deep in water in their homes, trains delayed, roads closed, it will be substantial. And it is likely to continue as the water levels are continuing to rise even though i huge effort is being made to slow. It has already been slowed, but to stop that beach. There is more rain in this Weather Forecast, but it is not the persistent, really heavy rain that we have endured for much of the week. Rain that has now totted up to as much as 168ml in shropshire, getting on for three months of rain. The rivers are still very full as well. Where there was once a road by the banks of the river severn, well the river has taken over. The swans enjoying the extra space here. The subtle change that we are seeing in the weather is the area of low pressure that has been right over the top of the uk is drifting west. It is still close enough to influence our weather, keeping things unsettled. There will be further showers for many of us over the next few days. And there will be a few areas that get some quite heavy rain. One such area is ireland. At the moment, that heavy cloud heading into Northern Ireland through this afternoon with things turning pretty wet here. And lasting well into the evening too. There will be plenty of showers for scotland, england and wales through the afternoon and evening time as well. And overnight, more wet weather across western parts. The rain always heavier that much heaviest for Northern Ireland, increasingly turning wet in western scotland as well. There will be some drier weather at times. Further east, temperatures between eight and 12 degrees. Looking at the weather picture into the weekend, that nearby area of low pressure does stay unsettled. Further showers are in the forecast and it will often be quite cloudy. There will be some sunny spells and it will be not quite as cool as it has been. Those temperatures coming up a few degrees. So saturday, we start off with that wet weather, particularly for Northern Ireland and western scotland. A band of rain will tend to weaken to showers as it pushes eastwards entering wales. Through the course of the afternoon, with perhaps more showers working into the far south west later in the day. It is not entirely dry, there are no guarantees of dry weather for saturday. But at least there should be some bright weather around with some sunny spells and in that sunshine, it is june, it will feel reasonably warm. Into sundays forecast, we continue those south westerly winds feeding those showers. Showers again could come together to get some lengthy spells of rain. Again, it is Northern Ireland that is most favoured for that though it could turn wet in parts of wales, western england and west of scotland as well. Potentially reaching 19 degrees. It will feel that bit warmer. It stays a little on the unsettled side and to the early stages of next week with further showers, particularly across the north west becoming dry and warm in the south east.
