Shell be at his sentencing hearing on tuesday and thinks simone biles admission that she too was a victim can only help others. I really hope that it will draw attention again much of the broader cultural problem. Larry is a symptom of the problem. The fact that so many children have suffered horrific sexual abuse at his hands is because of the policy that us gymnastics hard, they made it possible, they created an environment where a predator was able to prey on young girls. When you have an organisation that literally buries those reports inafiling that literally buries those reports in a filing cabinet and then goes so far as to defend that practice of burying those reports in under oath testimony in criminal trials, you have really created the perfect dynamic for a sexual predator to flourish. That is what we are hearing from so many member coaches and other gymnastic organisations. Usa gymnastics has given us a statement. The organisation says it is absolutely heartbroken, sorry and angry that simone biles or any of our athletes have been harmed by the horrific acts of larry nassar. It went on to say. And the statement also said. Police in california say theyve rescued a family of 13 brothers and sisters being held against their will by their parents. Its reported some were chained to their beds. The parents have been charged with torture and child endangerment. The alarm was raised on sunday morning when one of the girls escaped and called the emergency services. Peter bowes is our correspondent in los angeles. Horrific story, what more can you tell us . Well, yes, it did all u nfold tell us . Well, yes, it did all unfold on sunday morning, when the girl that you mentioned, she appeared to be a 10 year old, in fa ct appeared to be a 10 year old, in fact she was 17 years old. The police thought she was much younger than her age because she is a p pa re ntly than her age because she is apparently so malnourished. She managed to escape from the chains and shackles that she and her siblings had been held in, and used a mobile phone that was in the house to call the authorities. Now, when the police arrived, they found her brothers and sisters in chains. They we re brothers and sisters in chains. They were in shackles, there were padlocks used, tying them to their beds,in padlocks used, tying them to their beds, in squalid conditions. And initially, the report from the girl, the 17 year old, was that her 12 siblings, children, were being held inside. As it has turned out, seven of those people are in fact adults, they are aged between 18 and 29, but clearly look much younger than the yea rs clearly look much younger than the years because as weve heard from the police, they look very malnourished. The youngest of the children is two years old. And looking at the pictures of the home, you can see that the neighbours are fairly close by and yet this was going on for years without any alarms raised. Just tell is a little bit about the community. Yes, this isa bit about the community. Yes, this is a town about 95 kilometres to the south west of los angeles. It is a fairly non descript suburb, as you can see from those pictures. Very close up it is, i understand that these houses were fairly recently built. Some of the neighbours had been talking and they say that they did not really have any suspicions. Idid he did not really have any suspicions. I did he won report of a neighbour saying that she had seen one of the children scavenging in a dustbin on the street, and it does beg the question, perhaps that could have raised the alarm if these children had been malnourished. But it seems from what other neighbours have been saying, that they were clearly unaware as to what was happening inside this hour. Interesting. Thank you very much indeed. Of course, we will bring you more on that story and we get more development. Lets brief you on some of the other stories making the news. Im joined by liam booth smith, chief executive of localis, an independent think tank, joins me now. Good to see you. Good morning. Just tell us a little bit about what these workers want . Well, what the workers are after a reduction in working hours down to about 28 hours a week, but only as part of a benefit. In 2007, german law allowed something called an educational benefit, that has been used to help with things like caring for children 01 with things like caring for children or caring for elderly relatives. Now all, german businesses dont want to do this because they argue that they believe, one in four of their workers will take advantage of this, and a recent german chambers of commerce study shows that half of the trading they have access to is due to skilled workers. Were german businesses at the metal works, they argue they were they would not be able to continue productively. Just briefly, germany is in a position right know what they have very, very low unemployment. I guess you need to fill in that sweet spot. Yeah, they could do, absolutely. The fate of the Rohingya Refugees who fled violence in myanmar for bangladesh has been discussed by both governments. Talks were held about the repatriation of hundreds of thousands of rohingya. Meanwhile, the un high commissioner for refugees tells the bbc it cant support their resettlement unless it can monitor the refugees return. More than half a million rohingyas are now living in the Worlds Largest refugee camp in bangladesh. Mishal husain is there. In a camp where hundreds of refugees are still arriving every week, theres much to be done. New wells, new shelters all part of providing for growing numbers and preparing the camp for the monsoon rains. The more construction and expansion that takes place at this last camp, the more permanent it starts to feel. But at the same time, the talk of repatriating the refugees is causing deep alarm. After the circumstances in which they fled myanmar less than six months ago, who would really trust that things had changed enough for them to go home . Thats because the destruction of their homes and villages continued even after myanmar said military operations had come to an end. These pictures were filmed by the bbc from the bangladeshi side of the border on 10 september last year, five days after the supposed ceasefire. This was your house . This is my house. That was also the day irfan lost everything. A father of four, he was a secondary School Teacher back in myanmar and lived here with his extended family. And then whos that . That is my brother. The authorities told them theyd be safe, and then the soldiers came. Translation the military surrounded the whole area and they had weapons. They opened fire as people were trying to leave. Some escaped, but others were killed. My brother was at home that day, but he went out to check on his shop. He never came back. We dont know if he was burned alive. We still havent heard anything. Away from the main camp, another area is home to hindus from myanmar who were caught up in the violence. Theyve been identified as among the first to be repatriated. But even they are not ready to go without international protection. Translation if the United Nations goes with us, the hindus, we hope well get security and be happy. If they are there, and we face any problems, the whole world will know about it. For now, it seems most likely that the children of these camps will grow up here without a country to call their own. The uns access to their old home, rakhine state, is severely restricted. They too call for change and for the rohingya to be properly recognised. At this stage, i think it is premature to talk about returns in large numbers until three conditions exist. Number one, the issue of citizenship and legal identity must be addressed. Number two, there has to be a safe and secure environment for refugees to return to. Number three, reconstruction and the re establishment of Services Must occur. Services here are now more organised. But its a precarious existence. A community whove been marginalised and persecuted are now entirely dependent on aid, and on what others decide for theirfuture.
