That helped us to be more confident, shooting, because if you do not shoot you do not score but we did that today very well. Manchester united have come in for some criticism. How have the players felt about that . If we dont win or draw, it is or is going to be a problem. Because we know how big is the club, how big are the players as well. And we just want to win. Obviously we are very close to the first ones. Now we have to focus on ourselves, keep winning, keep doing the job that we have done today, and hopefully it will be good. The job that we have done today, and hopefully it will be goodlj the job that we have done today, and hopefully it will be good. I think the boys were very good, and in this christmas period, we didnt. We never won a match, but we never lost one, andl never won a match, but we never lost one, and i think that shows the character of the players. The criticism is the criticism. Liverpool extended their unbeaten run to 16 matches, after a last gasp winner in a 2 1 win over burnley at turf moor. Sadio mane had put the visitors ahead in the second half, before a goal from Johann Berg Gudmundsson seemed to have secured the draw for burnley, three minutes from time. But then Ragnar Klavan headed in for liverpool in stoppage time, to take all three points. There was never doubt about the character. We have two show, but the character. We have two show, but the character is fantastic. You have two learn the mentality, i guess you have to use your character all the time. It is not enough that it is there. But the boys really showed up tonight, and it was a cold, rainy, windy. It would tonight, and it was a cold, rainy, windy. It would have been difficult, and burnley specifically. I thought the work ethic was tremendous. We have had to go with virtually the same side, and kept them out there, the belief in the group was excellent. Motor quality, asi group was excellent. Motor quality, as i suggested. A lot of pleasing things and a lot of players have moved forward considerably, in my opinion, in the last year. So like i say, the reflection immediately is disappointed, but the bigger picture, pleased over all. The pressure is increasing on stoke manager mark hughes. The winner was scored in the second half, and hughes will wonder how stoke failed to score after a number of missed chances and the superb goalkeeping performance. The key is everybody sticks together and we get on with it. Its no good feeling sorry for ourselves, and looking to blame people. I think we just need to take it on board, take responsibility, and dont be cowed by it. Just get on with it. Are you confident you can do it . Who else will do it . In terms of the knowledge of this group, the time ive been here, then im best placed to do that. So we just need to be allowed to get on with ourjob. Thats what we will do, we will get back together and we will go again. Lou macatee and experience also for them was there. Sometimes you have a lack, and you make mistakes, and it is always a pity when you lose a game like that, but was good, it was bad, but still both teams you could see that they were giving everything. Leicester broke a run of five games without a win, after their 3 0 victory over huddersfield, with riyad mahrez starring. The algerian broke the deadlock in the second half, and then set up Islam Slimani for their second. Huddersfield rarely threatened, and Marc Albrighton made it three for the hosts in stoppage time. There was an entertaining 2 2 draw between brighton and bournemouth with the hosts twice leading through goals from Anthony Knockaert and glenn murray. But the cherries struck back both times, with Callum Wilson earning a point that lifts them three clear of the relegation zone. At the hopman cup, in australia, japan and usa get the second round of Group Matches under way shortly. On monday, in group a, Germanys Angelique Kerber overcame belgiums elise mertens, 7 6, 7 6 in a thrilling match at the annual team event in perth. The german, on her hopman cup debut, won the first set on a tie break before racing to a 4 1 lead in the second. But mertens, who has always been a tough opponent, staged a thrilling comeback, including this defence of a kerber match point, to eventually take her to another tie break. But by then, kerber proved too strong, winning the tie break 7 1 to claim the match in straight sets. Following kerbers win, belgium needed a victory to tie the match. And david goffin provided just that, cruising past Alexander Zverev in straight sets, 6 3, 6 3. The match was decided by a mixed doubles rubber, with zverev and kerber overcoming the belgium duo of goffin and mertens, 4 2, 4 3. To the nba, where Isaiah Thomas is set to make his Cleveland Cavaliers debut on tuesday against the portland trail blazers. The all star point guard, sidelined with a hip injury since last seasons eastern conference finals, moved to cleveland, as kyrie irving went the opposite way to the boston celtics. It has been a long process for me, a frustrating and tough process. Each day i try and get it now. Now that there is here. I havent played in so there is here. I havent played in so long, but i am happy. I am happy here. I am scoring, so i know how to put the ball in the basket. They traded kobe for a reason. To the nhl, where the new york rangers scored a goal in overtime to win the 2018 winter classic 3 2 over the buffalo sabres. The match, played in front of almost 10,000, saw the rangers get outto a 2 0 lead, with goals from paul carey and this Michael Grabner effort in the first period. But the sabres stuck in there and sam reinhart dragged them back before this second from Rasmus Ristolainen in the third period took it to overtime that is where jt miller scored a power play goal to hand the rangers victory at the home of the new York Mets Baseball Team also taking the rangers to a four and zero record in outdoor regular season games. I thought we played, you know, pretty good. We had a great start, and then a couple of penalties which put us on their heels a little bit. Buffalo i thought played very well and were extremely difficult to get through the net. Overall, i thought we we re through the net. Overall, i thought we were the better team, five on five. Their powerplay definitely gave them some momentum and speed to the game. To darts where rob cross playing in his first ever pdc World Championship has shocked 16 time World Champion phil the power taylor to win at Alexandra Palace in london. The match was the last of the 57 year old taylors career before retiring. But it didnt finish the way he wouldve liked as cross, 30 years younger, and who knocked out last years champion and world number one Michael Van Gerwen prevailed with plenty of room to spare in the end beating his english compatriot by seven sets to two. Quite a performance indeed. For that and Everything Else you can head to the website. But from me and the rest of the sport today team, goodbye for now. Good morning. We have some very Stormy Weather to come in the week ahead. Winds often touching up to gale force widely across the British Isles, and some heavy rain to contend with, too. Ahead of that, quite quiet this morning with light winds overnight and clear skies meaning some of us have a frosty start, but we will then quickly watch this band of rain winging its way into the west, so the fine weather not set to last. A dry start, though, across eastern scotland, with some early sunshine. Cloudy already, though, in the west, and some rain pushing in. A wet rush hour for northern ireland. Still i think, at 8 00am, largely dry across northern england, but rain affecting many parts of wales, and also pushing into the south west. The wind picking up across the midlands and the south east. Well start to see the rain pushing its way through there pretty quickly through the morning. And chances are, if you start the day with rain, your prospects will look a lot better by the afternoon, whereas if you start fine, quite a wet spell to come for you by lunchtime, possibly even a wintry spell across the Northern Hills of england and scotland, as this whips its way across the British Isles. Strong winds accompanying it, too, but lighter winds through the afternoon, and there should be be spells of sunshine too. Quite mild in the south. But the quieter weather short lived, and our next low is waiting to come spinning in from the atlantic. Overnight tuesday into wednesday. This is quite a vicious little feature. It could even bring severe gales to a central swathe of the British Isles, and be accompanied by heavy rain, as well. Those winds could be damaging, and even as the low starts to pull away on wednesday, behind it, strong winds and showers sucked in behind the low. Very squally affairs some heavy rain, hail and thunder. And i think quite a chilly feel in the wind, despite temperatures still managing to make it into double figures in the south of the British Isles. And it continues along the same line. As we look at the remainder of the week, perhaps a little quieterfirst thing on thursday, and then another low, which is going to basically cover the British Isles for the latter part of the week. Some more rain to come, more strong winds, and then potentially at the very end of the week, turning colder. Thursday, wettest and windy to the south east and perhaps a dry break towards the north east. And then friday, well, for all of us, strong winds, with heavy rain as well, and the worst of the wind across the Central Region of the British Isles. But no matter where you are, i think, no escaping the Stormy Weather in the week ahead. Welcome to bbc news, broadcasting to viewers in north america and around the globe. My name is gavin grey.
